Nintendo Justifies $80 Price Tag for Switch 2 Games, Citing Development and Replayability as Key Factors

[summaraize]

When the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed, the gaming world was surprised to see that some of its games would even be priced higher than the PS5/Xbox Series X|S titles. Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, has shared details about the pricing strategy for games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and why some are more expensive than others.

Bowser confirmed that Nintendo plans to use a flexible pricing approach for Switch 2 games, rather than sticking to a fixed price. This means that some games could come with a price tag of $80 or more, but the cost will vary depending on various factors.

Switch 2 $80 Game Prices Explained by Nintendo

Here’s what Bowser said in a recent interview with The Washington Post (paywalled). “What you see right there is variable pricing,” Bowser explained. “We’ll look at each game, really look at the development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, if you will, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences.”

He highlighted that factors like game development, gameplay depth, replayability, and longevity will all play a role in determining the right price. This means consumers can expect prices to vary across different games, with no set pricing standard.

Additionally, Bowser discussed Nintendo’s strategy of keeping their pricing flexible based on various factors specific to each title, giving fans a variety of experiences without being tied to a fixed price model.

Nintendo Switch 2 Price Not Affected by Tariffs

nintendo tariffs

Speaking to CNBC, Bowser also addressed the question of tariffs, clarifying that Nintendo’s pricing decisions for the Switch 2 are not directly influenced by the tariffs announced by Donald Trump. He mentioned that the company had already completed its pricing plans before the tariffs were announced.

When discussing the current Nintendo Switch lineup, Bowser confirmed that the prices for the original Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch OLED model, and the Nintendo Switch Lite will remain unchanged. Nintendo plans to continue offering these models alongside the new, Switch 2.

Bowser also emphasized that Nintendo will keep supporting the original Switch, with over 150 million units in use globally. While some users may choose to upgrade to the Switch 2, Bowser acknowledged that not all consumers will be ready for the switch immediately, and the company aims to keep current users engaged for the long term.

Fallout 76 Update 2.04 Fixes Ghoul-Related Bugs

[summaraize]

When Bethesda released the Glow of the Ghoul season that introduced a slew of new items and stuff to do, it also managed to break a few things in the process. Today’s Fallout 76 update 2.04 patch download fixes some of the biggest issues, including the affecting the Rad Specialist perk and more.

This is a smaller download than usual, and doesn’t add any new content, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Fallout 76 Ghoul Bugs and Issues Sorted in Latest Version 2.04 Update

Here’s what’s new with this patch per Bethesda:

  • Fixed situations where Rad Specialist caused other perks to unequip.
  • The Catalyst questline no longer enters a state where it becomes incompletable.
  • Players no longer get stuck as a human when completing “A Fresh Pair of Genes” Ghoul questline.
  • Addressed an issue with Daily Ops which caused them to not rotate as expected.

If you haven’t checked the game’s Ghoul Update, here are some of the highlights players can expect:

Update Highlights

  • Ghoulification – Take a “Leap of Faith” in a new section of the Savage Divide and emerge a full-fledged Ghoul!
  • Ghoul Exclusive Perk Cards – Find Ghoultastic build opportunities with 30 new Perk cards (28 regular and 2 legendary).
  • Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul – Mutation. Radiation. GLOW. It’s time to ghoulify Appalachia!

You can read the rest of the patch notes to know more about the changes and new content made.

The game’s servers, which underwent maintenance earlier today, should be live by the time you read this as well. No word yet on when we’ll see the next wave of content or hotfix, but if we find out when, we’ll let our readers know.

Bungie’s Marathon Likely Won’t Be Free-to-Play Based on Gameplay Reveal Announcement Message

[summaraize]

While Bungie has yet to announce whether Marathon is a paid title or one that’s going free-to-play, their reveal teaser already hints that it won’t be the latter.  However, they also warn that things are subject to change, seeing that it’s still in development.

More details about the game are set to be revealed next week, which includes our first look at gameplay.

Bungie’s Newest Shooter, Marathon, Hints at Being a Paid Title

Per Bungie’s press release about the game: “Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter and the first completely new project from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, in more than a decade. Set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments. While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot including new weapons and gear.”

For those hoping that Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, would be free-to-play, we may have some bad news for you, as it seems that the title may, in fact, be a paid one. Although the studio hasn’t revealed anything official, their teaser video indicates that the title will be paid. How so? Well, this is hinted at by the wording at the start of the video, which says, “Internet connection and online multiplayer subscription may be required.”

Unless things have changed with Marathon, and it offers some sort of solo-play against bots and such for its extraction mode, sort of like how Destiny 2 is free-to-play if you play solo, then the subscription requirement means it’s likely a paid title. Both PlayStation and Xbox no longer need a subscription to play free-to-play games, and PC, of course, is a platform that never required it from storefronts such as Steam and Epic Games Store. So the wording seems to suggest that either, or both, PlayStation and Xbox may be mandating the subscription, something only paid titles have been doing.

In today’s day and age, releasing an online-focused multiplayer built as a GAAS (Game as a service) can be a rather risky move, especially if it comes with a price tag. Point and case, PlayStation’s recent Concord, which launched as a $40 package, and despite being less than a full priced game ($70), failed to reach expectations, prompting the game to shut down less than two weeks after its release. It also caused the studio to shut down a month later, sending a shocking message across the industry.

Still, even if the game was free-to-play, there’s always that looming risk, one that we saw happen to Mountaintop Studio with Spectre Divide, which saw the server and studio also closing down. Point being, paid, or free-to-play, the only way Marathon will actually succeed is if it captures its target audience

Fallout 76 Down for Server Maintenance and Update Release on April 7

[summaraize]

Bethesda is taking the Fallout 76 servers down on April 7, and this is for planned maintenance where a new title update is set to be released on all platforms.

Given we just got the big Ghoul Within update a few weeks ago, this patch ushers in fixes more than anything else.

Fallout 76 Servers Are Down Today, April 7?

Update: Check out the patch notes in today’s update for everything that got fixed.

Original Story:

While the usual FO76 server outages occur on a Tuesday, Bethesda has decided to trigger this one on a Monday. Players can expect the Fallout 76 servers to be under maintenance for a few hours starting at 10 am ET/9 am CT/7 am PT/10 pm HKT.

No word on how long it will take, but based on past maintenance activities, it should run for at least 2-4 hours. Sometimes even more. Bethesda does update the Status Portal from time to time, though not in real-time.

What’s going to be fixed in the new Fallout 76 title update?

Bethesda hasn’t shared the patch notes just yet (understandably so), but based on the bugs that surfaced from the latest season, expect fixes to the jetpack and the Ghoul perk.

The devs also confirmed an issue with the Rad Specialist perk and said, “The team (with the help of all your reports) have confirmed an issue with the ghoul-exclusive Rad Specialist perk that is causing other perks cards to become unequipped while it is active.”

“A fix is currently being investigated, but in the meantime, we recommend waiting to use Rad Specialist until we’re able to release an update,” the devs added. Note that this announcement/acknowledgement was made 19 days ago, so that’s more than enough time to investigate, work on a fix and submit it to certification.

Once the complete patch notes are out, we’ll have it up on the site. While we’re not expecting it to be as big of changelog as the Ghoul Within patch, this should still be chockfull of bug fixes and improvements.

Blue Prince Review – A Must-Play Puzzler

While the game may have only been publicly announced last year, Blue Prince has been in development for at least nine years. Could this be as unique of a game as it seemed when we initially previewed it?  We have spent our fair share of time within this architectural roguelike first-person puzzler, and have our review ready right now.

Can a puzzle game be a must-play? Well, you’d be surprised at the answer.

Find the Hidden Room

The premise of Blue Prince is refreshingly unique. You have been named as the presumptive heir to your late Grand-Uncle’s estate, known as the Sinclair Estate at Mt. Holly. It’s a charming mansion nestled within a majestic mountain range, but it has a unique, mysterious ability: its room layout resets each day, and you determine what rooms go where, whenever you go to open a door. You cannot take possession of this manor unless you can manage to find the 46th room in this 45-room estate, which of course sounds preposterous on the surface, but a lot of this becomes clearer the more you play the game.

Each day, you have fifty “steps” you can take. Whenever you move into another room in the house, one step is spent. However, certain rooms such as bedrooms may add to those steps, while other (usually red) rooms such as the gymnasium will cost you even more steps. The effects of these rooms can be altered or negated entirely, depending on items in your possession, or other rooms: a circuit breaker room allows you to, for instance, shut the gymnasium off, which means it no longer drains your steps beyond the one you pay to simply walk into a new room.

Drafting a room is easy. All you have to do is walk up to a door and click. This will bring up a random list of three rooms to choose from. Once you’ve brought up this menu, you are forced to pick a room to create. Pressing Tab shows an overview of the current layout of the mansion. This becomes critical to look at as the day goes on, because you have to pay attention to how many open doorways are available to you. If you run out of spots to draft new rooms in, then you can no longer expand the mansion, and must either use up all of your remaining steps or simply “Call it a Day” via the option on the map/inventory screen. With limited exceptions, your inventory, currencies, and the manor all reset completely once each day ends.

Pleasing Roguelike Puzzling

Blue Prince has a pleasing cel-shaded aesthetic to it, plus a mostly-tranquil-but-occasionally-concerning soundtrack to go along with it. The Unity Engine runs the show, and it renders this game with ease. Expect hundreds of FPS on most any mid-spec computer, and smooth performance on either home console. The overall presentation of Blue Prince is impressive, especially as a debut game from developer Dogubomb.

Blue Prince doesn’t hold your hand. It simply lays out its rules at the start and expects you to figure things out on your own. For many players, there will be a lot of trial and error, especially in the early goings of the game. Ending a day early because you boxed yourself in with dead-ended rooms is frustrating, but most people should be able to get through these early setbacks and learn from them. There are a lot of things to consider whenever you draft a room, such as: how many doorways a room has, which direction those doorways are facing, what color the room is, if you have enough gems or some other currency required to draft that room, if some rooms offer a boon or debuff to you based on any blessings you might have on your current run, or some other item you might be carrying.

There are dozens of different rooms to discover, some of which can level up via repeated draftings, or with a floppy disk inserted into computer terminals found in certain rooms such as the Security Room. A laboratory allows you to select some effects, which will modify the way some rooms penalize you, or simply give you some currency at the start of each day. This laboratory also has a complicated looking machine in the corner, with a note mentioning that additional power needs to be piped in from the boiler room, which is of course another room you can draft and interact with. There are hundreds of ways in which rooms are connected to one another, and it shows the dedication Dogubomb went through for Blue Prince.

Lore Drops, Upgrades Available

Like any good puzzle game, Blue Prince has some lore to offer players who wish to feel a bit more immersed in the world being presented. There are various notes scattered throughout various rooms, which can help to convey a sense of what life was like at such a peculiar residence. Some of these notes also have hints scrawled on them, regarding other rooms which you may encounter, such as the billiards room which has a math-related dartboard puzzle, which seems to grow more complicated the more often you draft it. There are also a few ways to permanently upgrade the mansion, but rather than spoil them here I’ll leave discovering how this is done as an exercise for the reader. It’s satisfying to figure them out, after all!

Blue Prince was worth the wait. It’s easily the best first-person puzzler since Portal (or its incredible sequel). With countless mansion layouts, dozens of rooms to discover and best utilize, plus a nearly constant drip-feed of lore content to absorb, this is an ideal first game for any studio. If you enjoy puzzles even a little bit, you owe it to yourself to check out Blue Prince as soon as you can. Bring a notebook or at least be ready to take a ton of screenshots as you work to unravel the game’s many layers of secrets when it launches on April 10, 2025 on Steam, PlayStation (free w/PS+ Extra or higher subscription), and Xbox Series X|S (also free if you have Xbox Game Pass).

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • A refreshingly new concept
  • Many interconnected rooms
  • A fun challenge mixed with interesting lore

Cons:

  • Short runs in the beginning may frustrate some

Alternatively, you can visit the Zenless Zone Zero code redemption website, though we find it much more convenient to do it via in-game.

When to Expect New Codes

In most cases, miHoYo releases brand-new codes whenever a Special Program airs, which usually coincides with a major upcoming update. There are some instances where new codes do drop to celebrate a specific holiday, though most times you can expect new ones to drop whenever they’re about to release a new story chapter and agent.

That can be anywhere between one to three months, though more often than not, a new code arrives within a month of each other.

That said, we’ll continue to monitor and update the story once new codes are added. In the meantime, be sure you have redeemed the ones above to be up to date.

Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Let You Load Saves from Previous Switch microSD Cards

[summaraize]

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will have new features like a screen with HDR and up to 120 frames-per-second, along with the ability to play in 4K with the dock. However, one change that might disappoint some users is that your current microSD card won’t work with the new console except to view video and pictures. Despite the Nintendo Switch 2 being able to read them, it will only accept Express models of these cards for gaming-related purposes.

Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Support Your Current microSD

Nintendo Switch 2

Currently, the original Nintendo Switch, version 1.1, Lite, and OLED models support microSD cards up to 2GB, microSDHC cards up to 32GB, and microSDXC cards up to 2TB. But with the Switch 2, it’s important to check that your memory card has the label microSD EX or microSD Express, as these will be the only compatible cards for the new console.

The thing is, it does appear that the Switch 2 can read SD cards formatted and used on the original Switch. Nintendo confirmed that if you insert a microSD from your current Switch into the new Switch 2, it will read it, but you won’t be able to play games, transfer them, or even transfer save data over to the Switch 2’s internal hard drive. You will only be able to view pictures and videos.

It does seem a bit odd. Understandable not to be able to run them, considering the improved specs of the supported SD cards for the Switch 2, but still, to not allow files to at least be transferrable? There is a workaround for this, as Nintendo did confirm that you can transfer data between the consoles via the transfer option, but you’ll need both pieces of hardware. This means that if you want to continue using the data you saved from your Switch, you must keep the console until you’ve made the move entirely. For those planning on trading in their Switch for a Switch 2, to try and get a little bit to put towards the new console but want to keep your existing saves, you really can’t unless you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online in order to use cloud saving features. In a lot of ways, it’s similar to how Sony handles savedata on the PS5, where the only way to transfer PS5 savedata is if you subscribe to PS+ or do an entire system transfer, which is a bit of an inconvenience, given how long that takes.

In addition, these new cards are more expensive than the previous ones. Nintendo also confirmed that there will be licensed products from brands like Samsung. However, you will also be able to use cards from other brands, too.

In other news, Sony is conducting a market survey to gauge gamer interest in purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2. The survey asks about interest in the Switch 2, opinions following the Nintendo Direct announcements, and appealing aspects of the console.

For the last decade, PlayStation gamers have wondered why PlayStation never followed up on the 2007 release of the PS3 title Heavenly Sword. Back then, it was rumored for a while that Ninja Theory was developing a sequel, though it seems the project never took off and was instead put on hold in favor of other projects, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West being one of them.

Since then, we’ve only seen the title through alleged concept pieces. The title appeared again shortly after Guerrilla Cambridge was shuttered, as several pieces of their work were auctioned off to private collectors.

Despite no indication that PlayStation is interested in reviving the IP, over the years, we’ve seen images of the game pop up. Let’s take a look back at some of those and a look at the sequel that never came to be.

Heavenly Sword 2 – A Look At the Sequel That Never Came to Be

First, as a refresher, let’s look at the original alleged concept art published in 2012. Gaming website Siliconera initially uncovered these pieces, though at the time, it was hard to say whether they were actually for Heavenly Sword 2.

These were found in 2012, and it would not be for another seven years before we would get another look at the sequel, this time from Guerrilla Cambridge. The studio closed its doors in 2017, and some items were allegedly sold in an auction sometime later. A user on Oscure Gamers forums got a hold of some of these items in 2019, which included over 50 never-before-seen concepts and drawings for Heavenly Sword 2. Unfortunately, they only shared three of them.

Now there’s a good reason why Guerrilla Cambridge had a hold of these, as while Ninja Theory developed the title, Sony owned the IP, and many of the artists who worked on the original Heavenly Sword went on to work elsewhere within Sony. Such was the case with Doug Telford, an artist who worked at SCEE Cambridge (before it was renamed to Guerrilla Cambridge). His website states that he worked on most characters for the first Heavenly Sword and would go on to do work on its sequel before it was canceled for undisclosed reasons.

What’s interesting, though, is that at some point, he uploaded some new concept art for past work, which included some pieces of the Heavenly Sword 2 pieces. Not only do some of the art pieces featured on his site match the ones from the auction, but they also seemingly confirm the 2012 pieces as the real deal. Multiple concept pieces feature characters that would don samurai-inspired armor and such. A few of the pieces have some descriptions on them, though nothing too revealing about them outside of factions and hierarchy. We can only assume that some of these were meant to be for bosses, given their detailed designs.

I know it’s ancient history now, but it’s pretty cool to see what could have been. I can tell you, while the original Heavenly Sword hasn’t aged too well, it’s still a game I have fond memories of, so much so that I’ve always wished that PlayStation would do a sequel. At this rate, we’ll probably never see the IP again, though I wouldn’t be against a revival of it, especially considering that it was a game that many compared to classic God of War. It would be an excellent way for PlayStation to cater to those wanting that classic hack-and-slash style of combat that the God of War series has since moved on from.

One can dream, though it’s a dream that is unlikely ever to happen.

Zenless Zone Zero Is Coming to Xbox

[summaraize]

After almost a year of being on PC and PS5, Zenless Zone Zero is finally coming to Xbox!

What was originally thought to be just an April Fools’ Day joke was actually a teaser, as the studio has confirmed that it’s coming, with a special spotlight airing next week.

Zenless Zone Zero Prepares For Its Arrival On Xbox

As announced on X, Zenless Zone Zero is coming to the Xbox, presumably Xbox Series X|S, since the game isn’t on last-gen platforms. The studio previously teased the announcement on X during April Fools’ Day when they posted an Xbos-themed S-Rank Bamboo with the captioning “An Outstanding Partner.” With the Xbox version now officially confirmed, we suppose the “Outstanding Partner” was in reference to Xbox,

Zenless ZOne Zero isn’t the first game from miHoYo to come to Xbox, as the previously timed PlayStation console exclusive, Genshin Impact, also made the jump to Xbox last November. If this is anything like that release, fans can expect to see some Xbox Game Pass Ultimate rewards, which also reoccur with each major update.

This is fantastic news, and we’re glad to see more gamers will be able to get their hands on this, as the game itself is rather fun. The Xbox release, of course, will include every major update released thus far, including update 1.6, which came out last month. We’ll have more details on the Xbox release during the broadcast on April 11.

Sony Sends Survey Asking PlayStation Gamers About the Switch 2

[summaraize]

Just a few days ago, Nintendo finally blew open the lid on the Switch 2, which is set to be released in June of this year. While Sony is the current market leader this generation of consoles, the Switch 2’s release could change that given Nintendo’s massive fan base, and the brand’s irresistible appeal to gamers young and old.

It looks like Sony is keen to know what gamers think of the Switch 2, as the company has sent an email survey asking gamers just that.

Sony PlayStation Conducting Market Survey on Gamer Intent in Purchasing a Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order

The survey sent to gamers was revealed by reliable leaker eXtas1s, who provided the questions via an image. We’ve listed them down in case you’re curious what Sony was asking about alongside the image.

Q1: As you may already know, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the Nintendo Switch, is releasing on June 5, 2025 for $449.99 / £395.99.

How interested are you in purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2?

Q2: When thinking about the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 announcements, in what way has your opinion changed, if at all, about the following:

Q3: What aspects of the Nintendo Switch 2 console (as announced on April 2nd) are you most interested in?

  • When docked: up to 4K resolution, support for HDR, VR, and frame rates up to 120 fps
  • Day-Con 2 Controller features (magnetic attachment and mouse compatibility)
  • GameChat using the TV button
  • Connect face-to-face with a USB-CGB camera
  • High-definition LCD display: 7.3-inch screen, 1080p resolution\

Q4: Below is a list of potential reasons to buy the Nintendo Switch 2.
Please select the top 1-3 motivating factors for you.

  • To play upgraded and/or new exclusive games
  • To stay engaged with the gaming community
  • For the new Mario Kart-themed bundle
  • The new features and accessories are exciting
  • To upgrade my hardware in general
  • I always buy the newest consoles

Q5: What do you think about the Switch 2 pre-order approach? (specified below if you’re not familiar)

Priority registration will be given to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2024.

Market surveys like these are normal, so it’s not as if Sony is checking this so they can develop their own version of the Switch 2 . Plus, it’s been rumored that Sony is already working on a PS5 portable device though that’s years away from release.

Of course, with the new tariffs affecting gaming hardware production, Sony has more to worry about than just the competition. Still, you can’t blame Sony for wanting to check on the gaming populace’s pulse when it comes to new hardware.

Nintendo Korea Accidentally Leaks Character for Donkey Kong Bananza

[summaraize]

It seems that Nintendo drew up a few key art pieces for Donkey Kong Bananza that would eventually become the game’s main featured image on storefronts. While it’s pretty common for a company to do that, it seems that one of them accidentally slipped by and was shared by Nintendo on its Korean website.

While it remains mostly the same, there is one big difference: the omission of Odd Rock, the companion we see traveling with Donkey Kong. The news here is that they’ve been replaced by what fans are speculating as a returning character.

New Donkey Kong Bananza Has Fans Already Whipping Up Wild Theories

Donkey Kong Bananza

In the original key art for Donkey Kong Bananza, we can see DK along with Odd Rock (the purple rock with eyes above DK’s head in the image above). Oddly enough, Nintendo’s Korea website (archived by Reddit users) decided that it wanted to use a different key art, one that is nearly the same, with the exception of Odd Rock, which is now being replaced by an unknown character that has the fanbase theorizing. Be warned, this may be a spoiler, so if you want to go into the game as blindly as possible, now might be the time to divert your eyes.

So, just who is this character? Well, at the moment, no one really knows, though speculations from fans suggest that she’s Pauline, Mario’s original love interest in Donkey Kong 1981. She would be featured in many games afterward, with her last appearance being a singer in Super Mario Odyssey. That’s an important piece of information to remember, as Odd Rock is heard singing in all the footage shown of them so far. What’s more, if you look at the character’s hand, she’s wearing a purple bracelet that many assume indicates that she can transform into Odd Rock.

Now, if she is Pauline, this does introduce some complication, as Pauline is an adult now. This means the story of Donkey Kong Bananza may, in fact, involve time traveling of some sort. That, or Pauline was turned into a child who could turn herself into a walking, talking rock. Or perhaps this is an origin story for the character? It could also be that this isn’t her and an entirely original character.

I guess all will be revealed this July when Donkey Kong Bananza officially launches exclusively for the Switch 2.

Battlefield Labs Confirm Destruction Using Melee Weapons; Voice Chat Improvements Detailed

[summaraize]

DICE is ushering in new melee weapons in the new Battlefield game, and aside from looking different, they can even do something new as well, and that’s aiding in destruction of the environments such as walls, structures and more. This was confirmed by the latest Battlefield Labs leak, where a host of other stuff were confirmed too.

We also got new info on the ammo types that’ll be available in the game and also improvements to voice communications thanks to a datmaine of Battlefield Labs.

Battlefield Labs Confirm Some Melee Weapons Can Be Used to Destroy Structures

(Note: the clip looks like it ran through multiple filters, since the leakers are making sure it cannot be traced back to them, and is something we discussed in a separate article).

The short clip embedded above (from the 1|BF Telegram group) shows us how a sledgehammer is used by a player to obliterate the wall. What’s even more impressive is how each hit causes specific parts to crumble, which leads to a more dynamic animation of the destruction. We’re unsure whether this will be the case for each weapon and structure, but it sure beats a pre-canned destruction animation, right?

Aside from the destruction bit, more info about the in-development game has been datamined. Same as with any datamined info, don’t treat it as fact, as these things could change from pre-alpha to the final product. Some of these could be placeholder info, or something planned that might not make the final cut (though usually they do make it into the final version of the game).

Info about the voice communication improvements have been datamined.

Battlefield 2025 Voice Chat Improvements Datamined in BF Labs

  • Auto: The gamemode decides how Voice Chat is played back.
  • Flat: Played directly out main speakers with no directionr or attenuation.
  • Directional: The voice will be positioned in relation to where the soldier is. No distance attenuation.
  • In-World: The player talking to you will have reverb / distancing applied to their voice as if their soldier is speaking.

The ammo types spotted in the game’s files have also been unearthed.

Battlefield Labs Ammo Variants Datamined:

  • FMJ (Full Metal Jacket): Basic ammo with standard penetration.
  • Tungsten Core: Heavier core for more penetration, but increases recoil.
  • Frangible: Breaks apart on impact, delaying enemy health regeneration.
  • Polymer Case: Lightweight casing for improved mobility when aiming.
  • Hollow Point: Expands on impact; higher headshot damage.
  • Synthetic Tip: Plastic tip enhances expansion and headshot damage.
  • Match Grade: Precision rounds with superior ballistic performance.
  • Buckshot: Fires multiple lead pellets; standard shotgun load.
  • Flechette: Steel darts with better penetration and regen delay.
  • Slug: Single, heavy round for massive damage on impact.

As one might surmise, the bottom three variants are most likely for shotguns, while the rest should be for the rest of the guns.

We’re now in April, and we’re hoping EA releases more official info on the new Battlefield game, so we don’t need to rely on datamines and leaks all the time. So far, the game is looking solid, and we cannot wait to know more about it (officially).

Multiple Path of Exile 2 Updates Released on April 5

[summaraize]

A new Patch of Exile 2 update, or rather mutiple updates, have been released, bringing over new adjustments and fixes.  Path of Exile 2 update 1.024 focuses on addressing several recent issues brought with the Dawn of the Hunt update. However, before this patch dropped, we also got prompts to for patch version 1.023 and even 1.022 (at least on PS5).

Path of Exile 2 Update 1.024 Brings Multiple Hot Fixes

Path of Exile 2 Version 0.2.0b Patch Notes:

  • All non-unique monsters have less life, tapering from 100% to 75% of what they had between levels 8 and 15. All monsters between level 15 and 46 now have exactly 25% less Life. All monsters between level 46 and 64 now have less life, tapering up from 75% to 100%. This results in all monsters in Endgame having the same Life as before this change. Their thresholds for Crowd Control and Ailments have been adjusted proportionately by the same amount.
  • Rogue Exiles have had their Life reduced by 40% (on top of the change above).
  • The “of the Hydra” (Life Regeneration) Monster Modifier now only appears at Level 65+.
  • Tempest Bell’s Combo required to use has been reduced from 10 to 4.
  • Explosive Grenade and Voltaic Grenade Cooldowns have been lowered to 5 seconds.
  • All Curse Skill Gems now have a higher growth of radius per Level. Starting at 1.5 metres at Level 1, Growing to 3.1 metres (from 2.1 metres) at Level 20.

The patch notes for the other updates released by Grinding Gear Games today include:

Hotfix 5

  • Fixed an instance crash.

Hotfix 7 (Hotfix 6 included in main patch notes)

That’s all for today, though we expect plenty more updates to be arriving shortly!

PlayStation Has Spent Over $4 Billion on 9 Acquisitions in a Span of Four Years

[summaraize]

While Xbox has acquired massive studios in recent years, including the $69 billion purchase of Activision-Blizzard, PlayStation has spent just $4 billion over the past four years, acquiring nine studios.

Although PlayStation’s spending during this period pales compared to that of its competitors like Microsoft and Tencent, the company has made significant strides by releasing numerous first-party titles.

PlayStation Acquired 9 Companies for More Than $4 Billion Over Four Years

PlayStation Acquired 9 Companies $4 Billion

*(Editor Note: Some details have been amended, as Sony did not buy Ballistic Moon nor disclose purchase prices on some of the acquired studios. We have amended the article and apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused).

According to the LinkedIn profile of PlayStation Studios’ Director of Strategy and Portfolio, Eric McCall, the company has spent a total of $4 billion in the last four years as part of a larger strategy to strengthen its first-party portfolio. It’s hard to say which nine studios this refers to, as SCEE has made more than nine acquisitions in the last four years.

  • Housemarque
  • Bluepoint Games
  • Nixxes Software
  • Firesprite
  • Firewalk Studios
  • Fabrik Games (integrated into Firesprite, technically bought by Firesprite while under PlayStation’s ownership)
  • Valkyrie Entertainment
  • Haven Studios
  • Neon Koi (formally Savage Game Studios)
  • Bungie

Some non-gaming studios were also bought during this period, though it’s hard to say if any of these are among the nine being referred to.

The big notable purchase was Bungie, which cost Sony $3.6 billion in 2022, making a bulk of that $4 billion. Of course, they are beyond that now with some of the additional non-gaming specific studios like iSIZE, Audeze, Repeat.gg, and others being purchased in the last few years.

In addition, it was reported that Sony had a budget of $11.5 billion for future acquisitions in May of 2024. So, it remains to be seen how the company will use its budget to acquire the studios in the coming years.

In other gaming news, U.S. is now imposing a 46% tariff on products from Vietnam, impacting gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and potentially Xbox. In addition, President Trump will impose a 10% tariff globally, with some countries seeing a much more severe increase, including Vietnam (46%), China (34%), Cambodia (49%), Japan (24%), and the EU (20%).

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Update 2.000.010 Fixes Missing Campaign Unlockables

[summaraize]

Yesterday’s content patch for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which coincided with the release of the game on PC, should have been a time to enjoy the game. But for some, the update released for it became a bane, as it caused issues witht the campaign. Naughty Dog seeks to amend that with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered update 2.000.010 download that’s out on PS5.

This should fix any issues related to missing items in your campaign, though there’s a lot more to it than that.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Campaign Unlockables Missing Issue Fixed in Patch 2.000.010

The issue fixed by in this patch is the following:

  • Restores campaign unlockables, such as additional weapon holster and skill points, which had previously been lost after continuing progress from a save created prior to Patch 2.0.0.

Naughty Dog adds, “To ensure progress is restored, players should access save files created prior to April 3, 2025 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET to restore lost unlockables. Earned unlockables may still be lost if you continue to play from a save created after April 3, 2025 and before updating to patch 2.0.1.”

Aside from this issue, Naughty Dog is also aware of players losing access to No Return skins previously obtained before the 2.0.0 patch. The studio advises players affected to reach out to their feedback page for help. Based on the studio’s wording, more patches seem to be on the way.

Those on PC, no word yet on when you can expect a patch, but based on the community, there’s a handful of issues plaguing players.

  • Audio issues (skipping)
  • Crashing at specific instances of the campaign
  • Various animation glitches in cutscenes.

Outside of that, the game’s performance on PC seems to be doing fine.

Have you noticed any issues on PC or on the PS5 after the patch (aside from the missing unlockables)? If so, leave a comment and let the other players know.
