Black Ops 3 Will Run 1080p/60FPS On PS4, Up To 4K Resolution On PC With Dedicated Servers And FOV Slider At Launch

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch has confirmed a number of technical specifications for each platform its upcoming shooter will launch on this November 6.

According to multiple previews of the game, Black Ops 3 can be run at a 4K resolution with a powerful enough rig. As usual, frame rate can be customized to fit your hardware, though a PC developer on the game mentioned that multiplayer could potentially be capped at 200 FPS, as was the case with Black Ops 2 multiplayer. “It’s too early to say what we can do in Black Ops 3,” he said, “but that’s my thinking on the topic.” He added that Black Ops 3 will also ship with a Field of View slider and that the game will “use 100% dedicated servers for all ranked matches.”

Though recommended system requirements are still being finalized, Black Ops 3’s minimum required specs were revealed yesterday.

As for consoles, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will continue to run at 60 FPS. Treyarch was able to confirm that the PlayStation 4 will display a 1080p resolution but didn’t have anything to announce yet for Microsoft’s Xbox One. Last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare displayed a 900p resolution on Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was revealed yesterday where Treyarch also announced Closed Beta access to those who pre-order the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Digital And Digital Deluxe Pre-Orders Now Available, Bonuses Revealed For All Platforms

Correction

The article has been reworded correctly. We made the mistake of reporting that Xbox One users are able to pre-load Black Ops 3. That option has not been offered as of this writing.

Original Story

The digital versions of Treyarch’s just-revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 can now be pre-ordered on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam.

On the Xbox Store, there are two version available, the Digital Edition for $59.99 USD and the Digital Deluxe Edition $99.99 which includes the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Season Pass (four map packs).

The description reads that the “Xbox One game expected to release on 11/6/2015. You may download the game from Xbox Live before then, but it will not be playable until 12:01 AM EST on the release date.”

In addition to a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Closed Beta Access Key which should arrive in your inbox within one to two days, players will also be rewarded with this Black Ops 3-themed personalization pack for use in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

9k=

UPDATE: Pre-orders have also just opened up on the PlayStation Store. You’ll now find the Black Ops 3 Digital Edition for $59.99 USD, Digital Deluxe Edition for $99.99 USD, and Season Pass for $49.99. Pre-orders include a Black Ops 3-themed personalization pack for use in Advanced Warfare as well as a Black Ops 3 PlayStation 4 theme.

Similarly, GameStop is now offering this unique Black Ops 3 poster as a pre-order reward, which GameStop says is only available at their outlets.

2855372-blops3PC users will also now find Black Ops 3’s Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass for pre-purchase on Steam, though the page read that “additional Call of Duty: Black Ops III products will be available soon.” It too includes access to the Black Ops 3 Closed Beta later this year.

More details on the Black Ops 3 Closed Beta are expected in the coming months, though insider Drift0r reports that it should go live roughly one to two months before launch for a duration of one to two weeks.

Halo 5: Guardians Viral Puzzle Has Fans On The Hunt, Suggests Possible Focus On 4-Player Co-Op

Collecting small puzzle pieces in the form of incomplete images that various Halo fans have begun receiving vie e-mail, the Halo community is beginning to piece together a larger portrait that may hold some clues to unlocking Halo 5: Guardians‘ secrets.

As part of Microsoft’s ongoing #HUNTtheTRUTH marketing campaign, Halo 5: Guardians developer 343 Industries recently sent out seemingly random, broken images that the Halo community quickly discovered belong to a bigger puzzle. The effort to collect every piece has already begun on internet forums like Reddit.

Thanks to the efforts of Halo Waypoint user samurai1226, the progress thus far looks a little something like this:

Screen Shot 2015-04-26 at 4.28.44 PM

You’ll find a full-resolution image of the puzzle at this imgur link, which you can use to zoom in and out of at specific points.

The image so far suggests that both “heroes” are building their own formidable team of Spartans consisting of characters you might recognize if you’ve been keeping up with various Halo comics or novels.

Previously, Spartan Locke could be seen with his team of Spartan IV’s in various Halo 2 Anniversary cinematics during his hunt for Master Chief with the help of the Arbiter. Meanwhile, John-117 was last seen leading a squad of Spartans II’s in the Halo: Escalation comic book series on missions we’ve yet to discover

The idea of four Spartans to each side also lends itself to the idea that Halo 5: Guardians might have modes that center heavily around 4-player co-op, perhaps even in the story campaign. If, like Halo 2, players shift perspectives between Locke and Chief, their squad mates could easily serve as AI companions that can be taken over by a real life players.

What do you think? More to come, surely. Keep your sights on MP1st!

Black Ops 3 – Treyarch Talks About The Design Behind The “Biggest” Call of Duty Yet

Speaking to Call of Duty Commentator and Live Streamer Jericho, Treyarch Studio Head Mark Lamia and Design Director David Vonderhaar gave audiences a lengthy breakdown of their upcoming next-gen and PC-only shooter, Black Ops 3.

Setting things up, Lamia explained that Black Ops 3 is “primarily” set in a dark and gritty future, as depicted in the official reveal trailer that launched earlier today. As was the case with previous titles in the Black Ops series, he hinted that the future might not be the only timeline that is explored in Black Ops 3’s Single Player Campaign.

On that subject, Black Ops 3’s Campaign is built to be more open-ended than ever before with multiple approaches to tackle either solo, or with three other friends online. Though your squad is always with you throughout each mission, any character can be replaced with a real player that progresses through ranks and unlocks weapons and abilities. Due to the larger-scale battles, AI had to be completely reworked, said Lamia. Enemies will now react differently to your actions and are more goal-oriented.

While the game’s campaign is still its own separate mode, Black Ops 3 will boast the highest degree of integration between all three modes; Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. In fact, game development started flat, Lamia says, without distinction between the three modes. Vonderhaar elaborated, saying that it was the studio’s goal to make switching between each as fluid as possible, which is accomplished through a completely redesigned menu. He added that a better part of the  game’s ongoing 3-year development cycle was spent designing features and gameplay mechanics that weren’t exclusive to just one mode.

Like Single Player and Multiplayer, Zombies will also include character progression, though Lamia wasn’t willing to get any more detailed than that. However, he promised the most ambitious Zombies experience yet.

Black Ops 3

While competitive multiplayer might appear as complex as ever, Vonderhaar stressed the importance of going back to basics. “Lanes, lanes, lanes, frames, frames, frames,” he said. Keeping players in a lane and keeping all the action within a players frame of view has become an unbreakable rule at Treyarch. All maps in Black Ops 3 will play off this philosophy of three lanes which will hopefully ensure that the player feels in control of the action at all times. Though verticality will be factored into gameplay, buildings won’t be much higher than two stories so that players don’t feel like they’re constantly getting shot from off screen.

The Specialist is a brand new idea to Call of Duty multiplayer that Vonderhaar says sits somewhere in between your Create-a-Class Loadout and powerful Scorestreak rewards. Activated via the press of both bumpers (on an Xbox One controller), a player can call upon a unique class-specific ability or weapon determined by a Specialist character that is chosen before each match. Players can use these abilities every few minutes by building their “Core”.

Each Specialist has their own unique character and back story and can be upgraded over time. Of note is that the new system is applied in addition to your Loadout and Weapons, essentially giving you three branches of character development to progress through.

Call of Duty commentator Drift0r put together a pretty informative video on the subject.

[youtube id=”yTuLOBkyO0A”]

The Gunsmith, Camo, and Paint Job features will allow players to greatly customize basic weapons by turning them into their own personal Variant that can be saved for use in the Loadout selection.

Camo patterns are still unlocked normally which can be applied to the base of your gun, but an additional layer of paint can be modified and applied on top of it. Vonderhaar explained that each side, as well as the top and bottom of a weapon can be painted, offering a large amount of personalization with 64 different layers to play around with.

Inside the Gunsmith editor, attachment variations can also be placed onto weapons for a more personal touch. According to Vonderhaar, you’ll be able to select from a number of different grips, for example, all which perform the same function, meaning you won’t have to worry too much about altering your weapon’s stats; it’s purely cosmetic, he says. Lamia, who was pretty excited about the feature, said that players will be able to apply up to 6 attachments to their weapon in either Campaign or Multiplayer, if they wanted to. Of course, you’ll use up most, if not all, of your loadout points doing so.

Vonderhaar stressed the importance of creating a fun multiplayer experience, which he believes can be achieved in any competitive environment that is balanced, so both casual and competitive players should find something to love in Black Ops 3.

In line with the game’s darker tone, you may have noticed that dismemberment is back, along with a healthy serving of blood splatter. Though it’s a returning, fan-favorite feature that defined Call of Duty: World at War’s gritty setting, Vonderhaar says it’s also a great way to emphasize impact and to improve the “feedback loop” during combat.

Black Ops 3

In closing, Lamia and Vonderhaar talked about the studio’s first project on a three-year development cycle and how the extra wiggle room afforded developers the time to experiment, make mistakes, and fail. It gave designers a chance to entirely remove core features from the game in order to fully understand their importance and make the cuts or improvements where necessary.

Lamia says, in the end, Black Ops 3 will be the “deepest, biggest game ever” in the Call of Duty franchise.

As for Theater Mode? To answer Jericho’s question, all Lamia had to say was, “dude, are you at Treyarch? Alright. We’ll just leave it at that.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 6. Multiplayer will be playable at this year’s E3 as well as in the upcoming multiplayer beta that is scheduled to launch one to two months before release.

Black Ops 3 In-Game Screenshots And Gameplay Details Leaked, Reports Say Game Is Current Gen And PC Only

With the reveal in just a few hours time, we get our first taste of what we can expect to see from the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer.

What appeared to be an accidental push for an early preview of Black Ops 3, Mashable and Gameplanet have posted extensive amount of details about the game, including the first hi-res screenshots, which you can view below:

CDhh6H_WoAMkXkf bo3-into-fray Black-Ops-3_Ramses-Station_Under-Siege recrop-Black-Ops-3_Specialist_Ruin CDhh6JRWgAAGA4cCDhyzp3VAAELBzGCDhyzwkUUAEKq5C1430064821-street-battleAccording to the preview, Black Ops 3 is set to release only on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This will be the first Call of Duty game to release this generation that isn’t available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, if true.

New gameplay features include a class system inspired by Bungie’s sci-fi shooter, Destiny. Character “Specialists” each have two unique abilities – a special weapon and move or perk – yielding 18 different choices. Abilities range from a robot arm that can turn into a gatling gun to the power to see through walls.

The movement system is described as the most fluid yet with the ability to wall-run, perform jetpack-assisted jumps and power slide. Though your aim might suffer, you can shoot while performing these moves. Sprint is unlimited, but advanced movements are governed by a meter that depletes upon use and refills every couple of seconds. Dolphin diving will not be present.

The Gunsmith customization tool will let players equip weapons with up to five attachments, each with their own cosmetic variant. The new Paintshop feature will let players add up to 64 layers of weapon camo patterns to a gun to customize its look. Scorestreaks and Pick 10 return, alongside the new Specialist levelling system.

During press sessions, six vs. six matches were played on modes like Kill Confirmed, Domination, Team Deathmatch. Three maps were demoed – Stronghold, an icy Swiss map; Combine, a small and tight facility: and Hunted, a jungle map.

Black Ops 3 multiplayer will be playable at E3 as well as during a closed beta prior to launch, which can be accessed via pre-order.

Campaign missions are designed to be tackled co-operatively, with up to three other players in bigger and more complex level layouts against smarter enemy AI. Characters can be completely customized, including gender.

A social system will blanket all three modes – multiplayer, co-op, and zombies – so friends can transition between each easilly. eSports will once again be supported.

Black Ops 3 Nuketown T-Shirt Discovered On Call of Duty Merch Store

With the game’s official global reveal mere hours away, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 merchandise has begun to surface on Call of Duty’s official store.

While that fact itself may not interest you, what caught our eye, as well as the eye of tipster @DavidCarcedo, was this “Black Ops III” t-shirt designed around the series’ most popular multiplayer map, Nuketown.

CLARIFICATION: As many readers have pointed out, the shirt design isn’t new, but the fact that Activision and Treyarch are calling it a “Black Ops III Nuketown” t-shirt raises some questions.

Screen Shot 2015-04-25 at 5.03.37 PM

First introduced in the original Black Ops, the hectic close-quarters map was re-imagined in Black Ops 2 as Nuketown 2025 two years later. With the appearance of a Black Ops 3 Nuketown t-shirt in the Call of Duty store, we can’t help but wonder if Treyarch is considering a 2065 version of map for Black Ops 3’s multiplayer. Bringing it back would seem like a no-brainer, after all. You can check out the store and the t-shirt for yourself right here.

What do you think? Is the return of Nuketown in Black Ops 3 a likely scenario? Would warm your heart to battle it out on a next-gen version of the map?

Black Ops 3’s big reveal is tomorrow, buy you can catch up on the latests leaks and gameplay details right here while you wait.

First Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Gameplay Details Leak, Confirms New Movement, XP System, & Map Design

Detailed information from a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 pamphlet has allegedly leaked, describing a multitude of new features and mechanics present in the game’s multiplayer, single player, and Zombies modes.

The images describe a new “momentum-based chained-movement system” that will allow players to traverse the map in continuous motion using thrust jumps, slides, and mantling abilities, all while remaining in control of your weapon at all times.

Multiplayer maps are “built from the ground up” to promote both traditional movement and advanced maneuvers.

The new Specialist character system will give players the opportunity to “rank up and master each specific character’s battle-hardened capabilities and weapons,” promising three different progression paths, including the traditional XP and Weapon XP systems.

Additionally, the pamphlet describes a campaign that can be played co-operatively with up to four players online. The mode is “designed for co-op and replayability” with cinematic gameplay and open-area arena-style environments. Characters will also be completely customizable.

Black Ops 3’s new Zombies mode will revolve around an “all-new narrative” with a “full XP-based progression system.”

Additional Black Ops 3 promotional material that leaked earlier today suggests Treyarch’s shooter will launch on November 6 but will also host a Beta test on next-gen platforms and PC prior to release.

Thanks, @Long_Sensation!

According to sources, the build is multiplayer-only and contains modes like Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, 1 Life 1V1 Shotgun TDM, 1V1 Sudden Death Gnashers Only, 4V4 TDM Single Round, and 4V4 KOTH Single Round.

Update 1

An additional source has told Polygon that Brink and Dirty Bomb developer Splash Damage is in charge of of the remastered Gears of War game for Xbox One, not Black Tusk Studios. Earlier, the studio posted job listings looking for help with a “very well known and highly popular AAA title with next gen technology.”

Original Story

A remastered version of the original Gears of War for Xbox One is said to be in development at Black Tusk Studios, according to sources.

An insider told Polygon that the updated re-release will boast improved visuals and reworked cutscenes, courtesy of animation studio Plastic Wax.

We suggested two weeks ago that Microsoft was seemingly hyping up a potential Gears of War-related announcement with the release of a throwback video of Gears of War 3’s midnight launch.

“The thing that was great about the early Gears of War games, to me, was just the epic scale of the settings that I was in,” Xbox’s Phil Spencer told Polygon last year. “The story, the setting was a lot more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark. I think the game over time became almost more of a parody of itself; not for any kind of horrible reasons. It’s hard to continue to manage the IP.”

Epic Games handed the franchise, which will turn ten years old next year, over to Vancouver-based studio Black Tusk last year, who’s been working on an unannounced Gears of War project ever since.

We’ll keep you updated with any official announcements or additional news we catch on Black Tusk’s Gears of War project.

Black Ops 3 Pre-Order Poster Suggests November 6 Release Date And Beta Access, First Gameplay Image Leaks

UPDATE 3: @LiamFTWinter, who is often a reliable source of Call of Duty information, claims that this is the first poster for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Zombies Mode. Looking at the card that this zombie is holding, you can spot the same emblem that was spotted in Black Ops 3’s very first teaser trailer.

UPDATE 2: Though the source is unconfirmed, Twitter user @Long_Sensation tweeted this image of what looks like potential Black Ops 3 gameplay from another promotional poster.

The soldier on the left does appear to have at least one limb replaced by cybernetics and the weapon he’s holding looks very similar to the one spotted near the end of yesterday’s teaser trailer:

UPDATE 1: @Motions0 confirmed with us that the pre-order poster was spotted in North America.

ORIGINAL STORY

A Twitter user who goes by the handle @Motions0 has allegedly discovered a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 poster from a local video game retail store that suggests a November 6 release date of this year.

The poster also promises Beta access to those who pre-order the game. According to the fine print, the Beta will only be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. “Actual platform availability and launch date[s] to be determined,” it reads.

He sent this image to our friends at CI:

CDYUDZoWAAAUulvA display case from GameStop stating the same details was discovered by the folks at Kotaku:

pmmyaes1eart0v3xazle

The date happens to land on a Friday, which would suggest to us a possible UK release date, but an ESRB rating is normally aimed at North American audiences. Most games typically release on a Tuesday in North America, though a Friday launch is not unheard of, especially for Sony or Microsoft titles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s official global reveal is this Sunday, April 26, when we’ll likely learn much more about the game’s launch details.

DICE LA Producer Drops Some Knowledge On Battlefield 4’s Community Map Project

Yesterday, Battlefield 4 fans got their first look at the ongoing Community Map Project led by the team of developers at DICE LA, getting a good idea of the progress the studio has made so far.

Hopping on Twitter earlier today, Producer David Sirland took a handful questions about the work-in-progress map and supplied some answers, discussing the near-final vision of the map, as well as what the next few steps will be.

We rounded up his answers below, as well as a short video with Senior Artist Cameron Petty who’s currently working on the map’s terrain and points of interest. Have a look!

Community Map Project Q&A With David Sirland

Q: Loving the map design/shape, i’ll be interested to see how much vegetation will be in the final design #JungleVibes – @Inquinity

A: We know “dense jungle” is what you guys are after (us too) – so that’s what we are planning to test and try.

Q: Where are all the trees? The map is supposed to be rainforest based. – @SteFox123

A: In this phase the objects used are bare minimum, focusing on distances and general size of the map, trees will come!

Q: I’m looking forward to it, but this map is not thick jungle. Why? – @a5t3m9adgj

A: We’re not doing that yet – first scale test, then points of interest etc. It will have thicker jungle later

Q: which game modes are going to be playable on the community map? – @xJaN0h3ck

A: All the basic ones for sure, then we might add on some surprises down the line!

Q: where in the world is this map? looks a bit like southeast Asia – @1975amccann

A: Indonesia: “Indonesian radicals have developed a new strain of virus for chemical warfare.” from the poll option!

Q: will the community Map be in esport? – @tomerz073

A: Yes. Any gamemode that we support for competitive will be in this map.

Q: will levolution be big part of the map? – @tomerz073

A: No, we decided to skip that in favor of all out destruction for gameplay’s sake. All buildings etc is destructible.

Q: Heres a good question Mr Sirland. Is the unannounced content of classic maps set to have more destruction and no levolution events? – @gamer_boyy70

A: I would say that would be a fairly safe bet yes.

Q: when do we get new maps? and are u remaking some old maps to launch with the community map? – @looops73

A: The Community Map launch date is not set yet. Any other coming content will be announced when the time is right.

Q: Will there be new Achievements / Trophies to go with the new guns and maps? – @LAClennell

A: Maps probably, guns no – as we are going to unlock these guns for all on release!

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Viral Website Describes a Future Full of Human Augmentation

Bluebird, a password referenced more than once in Call of Duty: Back Ops 3’s latest teaser trailer and in the recently surfaced “Courtoptic” teaser website, has found a use in a newly discovered viral Tumblr page related to the game.

The website, called “Enhance Yourself For a Better Tomorrow,” follows two fictional characters who describe a highly advanced human civilization in a post-Augmentation-era future (2037-2063) ushered in by the Coalescence Corporation. Humans, or at least individuals who can afford it, have accepted extreme levels of implants and augmentations which have enhanced nearly every aspect of life.

Bastien, who may perhaps play a role in the actual game, works at the ComsAffairs division at Coalescence. He describes the company as one “that now builds humanoid combat robots and revolutionized battlefields with exoskeletons.” Meanwhile, Gurmit works with a doctor named Christian on new advancements in post-traumatic stress disorder treatment.

As it turns out, the only way to access the website after inputting the URL is to use the password “BLUEBIRD” in capital letters. Call of Duty YouTube commentator MrRoflWaffles does a pretty good job explaining how clue hunters came to this conclusion:

[youtube id=”AJ0LVvPm0Vg”]

As today’s trailer suggests, Black Ops 3 will take place in the year 2065 when the controversy surrounding human evolution and technology appears to be at a breaking point. This, of course, has extreme implications on the game’s setting, story, and even gameplay, as players will likely control a soldier with many or all of the augmentations described in the website author’s notes.

If you have the time, give the new blog a read and tell us in the comments what you think the descriptions within might mean for Black Ops 3’s gameplay.

We’ll likely find out this Sunday, April 26, during Black Ops 3’s official global reveal.
