12 Multiplayer Maps Confirmed For Star Wars: Battlefront, Will Cater To Specific Game Modes

DICE and EA have confirmed that there will be 12 playable multiplayer maps in their upcoming Star Wars shooter on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

“Of the 12 multiplayer maps in Star Wars Battlefront (there are even more locations when you include the Star Wars Battlefront Missions), some feel immediately familiar — such as the lush forests of Endor or the tundra of Hoth that allow you to re-live your favorite moments from the films,” developer DICE wrote in a recent blog update. “Some of the maps support our epic modes like Walker Assault, while others are tailored to more intimate, close quarters combat. Our goal is to bring a variety of battle fantasies to life, with map design catering to the modes that will play out on those maps.”

Thus far, four environments have been named as locations players will be able to visit in Battlefront — Tatooine, Hoth, the forest moon of Endor, and Sullust.

The studio’s latest post focuses primarily around the new planet, Sullust, which was mentioned in Return of the Jedi, but never seen. Designers at DICE hope to bring the new location to life “with black sharp rocks, huge land shifts, red lava, turquoise lakes, and white smoke…everything to make it really colorful yet imposing and threatening,” Concept Artist Anton Grandert explained.

The studio calls the planet’s look and feel “Imperial and under construction” with locations based on a lava theme, a sulfer theme, a Death Star-inspired theme, and a mine theme.

You can read more over on the official blog and check out some of the new screens below:

Star Wars: Battlefront was revealed earlier last month at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA. You can catch the latest gameplay details right here, if you missed it.

Star Wars: Battlefront Launches November 17 with Standard and Deluxe Editions. The free Battle of Jakku DLC will launch shortly after, adding two more maps on a brand new location.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gets New ‘M1 Irons’ Weapon DLC May 5

Developer Sledgehammer Games is bringing some class to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare with a new DLC weapon that would make any antique gun collector go nuts.

Based on the real life Le Mat .42 caliber double barrel revolver, the M1 Irons will land first on Xbox One and Xbox 360 tomorrow, May 5, but will come soon to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC as well.

“This new pistol is our gift as a thank you for the continued support of Advanced Warfare throughout this year’s season of content,” wrote Sledgehammer Games in a recent blog update. “The M1 Irons revolver not only packs a punch, but has excellent mobility and range. As with all weapons in Advanced Warfare, the M1 Irons has a full suite of loot variants available through Supply Drops, and Advanced Supply Drops.”

Of note is that the classic, real life revolver also houses a .16 gauge shotgun barrel in addition to its 9-round capacity that can be shot by flipping the firing pin on the the hammer. We’re curious to see if that will make it into the actual game as well.

Check out 3 of the 10 variations the studio shared so far:

Battlefield 4’s Paracel Storm Monster Has Been Discovered, Here’s How

It seems no mystery slips past the top detectives of the Battlefield community.

A recent patch to Battlefield 4’s Community Test Environment has sent clue finders on yet another wild goose chase, this time in search of the biggest Easter Egg of them all: The Megalodon, AKA The Paracel Storm Monster.

In actuality, the hunt began back in December of 2013 when the hints started piling up, all pointing to something hidden on Paracel Storm, one of Battlefield 4’s most popular multiplayer maps. As it turns out, the clues all pointed in the right direction, but the final pieces weren’t present in the actual game until just recently.

With the big one finally bagged, here’s Battlefield 4 YouTuber JackFrags with the breakdown of how one of the game’s most elaborate secrets was discovered.

[youtube id=”DtrTcLU1xQA”]

Presumably, the giant Megalodon Easter Egg acts “thank you” gesture to the Battlefield 4 community who’ve participated in the Community Test Environment and provided developers at DICE LA with the valuable feedback they’ve received thus far.

So, “GG” to everyone who was involved in finding this one!

Frank O’Connor Calls Halo: MCC “A Black Eye For Us,” Halo 5: Guardians Will Be “Radically Different”

Explaining what went wrong with what was supposed to be last year’s hardest hitting launch on Xbox One, 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor is confident the studio’s next project won’t succumb to the same fate Halo: The Master Chief Collection did.

In an interview with XBA, the Franchise Development Director called The Master Chief Collection’s development process an “outrageous” affair that was perhaps too complex of an undertaking to begin with.

“Halo: The Master Chief Collection is definitely a black eye for us,” O’Connor said. “We’re not going to rest on our laurels or hide from the mistakes we made. However, I will say that the nature of The Master Chief Collection – you’ve got five different game engines, you’ve got five different studios working on it, you’ve got 343 working on putting it all together – the footprint and complexity was outrageous.

“To be perfectly honest, there were a lot of things that happened when we got it into a retail environment that we simply didn’t see in a test environment, so that’s what really caught us by surprise. We’ve been sort of scrambling to get it first in a playable stage and now we’re going to get it in a polished stage, so that people are getting what they deserved in the first place. We’re never going to back away from that or shy away from that.”

It’ll be a rough road ahead convincing fans that this year’s Halo title won’t launch with the same game-breaking issues The Master Chief Collection did, but O’Connor says the challenges associated with Halo 5: Guardians are “radically different.”

“However, Halo 5 is being made by a completely different team, he explained. “It’s a singular product. It was built from the ground up for this new technology, rather than being sort of dragged kicking and screaming from 2001 and forced and shoehorned into a 2014 console. So the problem spaces are still very challenging but they’re radically different. I think the beta is already a decent first step, in a retail environment, showing that we don’t have the same problems.

“[…] It’s mostly something I’ve taken very personally as a sort of big challenge in my career just in terms of communication. And, again, when you take it personally, you feel it personally, but Halo 5 simply won’t suffer the same indignities because it’s being developed very differently.”

Next month, 343 Industries is delivering on their promise of offering a remade Halo 3: ODST campaign and Halo 2 Relic multiplayer map to those fans affected by The Master Chief Collection’s troubled launch for free.

What’s your outlook on Halo 5: Guardians? Do you have faith in 343 Industries to deliver a killer Halo title this year?

Treyarch On Black Ops 3’s ‘Overhauled’ Graphics Engine And New Movement Mechanics

Judging alone by the game’s global reveal trailer, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III is already off to an impressive start, which the studio attributes mostly to the series’ new three-year development cycle.

According to Studio Head Mark Lamia, the extra time allowed engineers to rework the game’s graphics engine in order to capture Call of Duty’s fast-paced action with new deferred render, lighting, and effects systems.

“I wanted to bring back just those insane battles that only Call of Duty could do,” Lamia said. “There is so much stuff going on that we simply could not render all of that at that quality at 60 frames per second. You just can’t do that unless you do an overhaul of that whole system.”

It was revealed earlier that Black Ops III will continue to run at 60 frames per second on consoles and at a 1080p resolution on PlayStation 4, though the PC version can be cranked up to a 4K resolution and beyond 60 fps with the appropriate hardware.

Black Ops III’s graphics engine wasn’t the only thing to get a redesign. Treyarch hopes the game’s new movement mechanics like thrust jumping, power sliding, and wall running will open up new possibilities for players without straying too far from the series’ tried-and-true ‘boots on the ground’ gameplay.

“The paths are all there if you decide you don’t want to chain movement or wall-run or whatever,” Lamia explained. “I do think you’re going to want to, […] but for players that don’t want to do that, it’s not a requirement and the game rewards players just fine who are just about staying ‘boots on the ground.’ So, if you play Black Ops II, this should feel like a natural evolution of momentum, but also if you want to play just like Black Ops II, you can as well.”

Lamia says the idea for a new movement system came to designers quickly, but map design that compliments that new movement took some iteration.

“We had the core movement set in quickly, but movement goes hand-in-hand with map design,” he said. “You have milliseconds to think about it in the map, and we didn’t want you to have to think about if you could pull off a particular kind of move. It just has to kind of be natural where you just look at it and then you’re able to do it. There was a ton of iteration.”

Meanwhile, Campaign Director and Executive Producer Jason Blundell is grateful for the extra development time that allowed the studio to take the risks it otherwise wouldn’t have been able to take.

“In the two-year development cycles, the kinds of risks we’re taking right now, we wouldn’t be able to do with just two years because it needs so much iteration,” he explained. “[We iterated on the first set of multiplayer maps for] a year. That’s three maps we were working on and each one was constructed in a different way so that we could learn how the different map shapes and the different ways that you pace combat felt differently with the different moving mechanics as they came in.”

It also allowed the studio to build even further off of the ideas that were previously touched upon in Black Ops I and Black Ops II, like the new Specialist system.

“Before there was the Pick 10 in Black Ops II, we were going down the path of starting to do character archetypes, which we had dabbled in with every single game before that,” Blundell added. “This time, having the three-year cycle was a place and time where we actually had the time to flesh that out.”

More details on new gameplay improvements to Black Ops III’s aim down sight system, melee mechanics, Scorestreak rewards, and more were discussed yesterday, which you can read more about right here.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 6. Multiplayer will be playable at this year’s E3 as well as in the upcoming multiplayer beta that anyone can access by pre-ordering.

Thanks, Gameinformer.

Destiny House of Wolves Live Stream Recap – Trials Of Osiris Explored, Here’s How It Works

Streaming from their official Twitch channel, developer Bungie revealed to audiences the Trials of Osiris, the new competitive multiplayer event coming to Destiny with the launch of Expansion II: House of Wolves on May 19.

The Trials of Osiris is an end-game competitive multiplayer event that players can buy entrance to once per week by purchasing a Passage of Osiris for 100 Glimmer from the new vendor, Brother Vance, Disciple of Osiris. The event opens each Friday at 10AM Pacific and closes on Tuesday morning upon Destiny’s weekly reset.

As for the rules, Guardians face off in a competitive, best-of-nine 3v3 Elimination game mode with no respawns, though players are able revive each other five seconds after death. An additional five seconds is added to the timer upon every death. A round ends upon the elimination of a full team, or, if it happens to extend beyond two minutes, a capture point appears on the map which will also bring the round to a close once captured by a team. Like Iron Banner, Light Level, Attack Ratings, and Defense Ratings matter.

Heavy ammunition spawns only once per match and only after at least one team has scored three round wins. Ammo can’t be carried forward into following rounds. Super Abilities behave as normal, but will obviously play a much more important role when attempting to turn the tide of battle.

The Passage of Osiris acts as a weekly scorecard that tracks your wins and losses. Upon three losses, you’ll complete a Ticket, which can be continuously turned over until the weekly reset. The more wins you have on a ticket, the better your rewards will be.

Gear will drop randomly while participating in the Trials of Osiris, meaning it’s not necessary to win in order to earn rewards. Different packages, each containing a random set of rewards, can also be purchased from Brother Vance with a new currency called Passage Coins. The higher the tier, however, the better the rewards. Here’s the breakdown, courtesy of DattoDoesDestiny:

2 wins = Stone Tier
4 wins = Bronze Tier
5 wins = Armor Piece
6 wins = Silver Tier
7 wins = Weapon
8 wins = Gold Tier

The gear available rotates every week, much like Iron Banner gear rotates every month. Five wins are required to purchase the Egyptian-themed gear seen seen below, which will enable your Guardian to reach the new Light Level of 34.

trials

Supplies can also be purchased from Brother Vance with Passage Coins, which drop from the daily Crucible activity and from random Crucible rewards. There are three Supplies in total, one that will forgive a loss, one that will reward buyers with a free win, and one that will reward buyers with a bonus win if their first match is won.

Matchmaking for Trials of Osiris has been reworked to prioritize latency over anything else in an effort to reduce lag and provide stable connections. Players will match up with new opponents every after every game. UPDATE: According to Bungie’s live stream, it sounds like players will need to create their own 3-player Fire Teams before entering the Trials of Osiris and being match-made with an opposing team.

The Trials of Osiris will take place on one map every weekend, the first being the Burning Shrine on Mercury. The Trials will take place on a new map every event.

Lastly, we leave you with these five new Trials of Osiris images:

Destiny PvP Rewards Get An Overhaul With New House of Wolves Expansion, The Dark Below Maps Will Soon Be Free

A new challenge awaits Crucible-goers in Destiny’s new Trials of Osiris PvP event, arriving with Expansion II: House of Wolves this May 19. But with the coming launch, there’s also a lot more to look forward to in regular competitive multiplayer playlists.

Destiny PvP is getting a bit of an overhaul when it comes to rewards. For starters, developer Bungie has doubled the amount of Marks and Reputation earned after each match. These can be used to unlock and purchase Crucible vendor weapons and gear. Bungie also promises more loot overall; players in first place will be more likely to win better rewards.

“We’ve doubled that stream period so you’re going to see a lot more blues dropping at the end,” said Crucible Design Lead Lars Bakken. “On top of that we’ve added purple. I believe there are 12 new legendaries that will drop.”

“Not only that, but we’re allowing you to get Etheric Light.” As outlined in Bungie’s Reef reveal, Etheric Light can be used to upgrade your Legendary and Raid gear to the new maximum level. One will be earned from hitting level 3 in Iron Banner, one for hitting level 5 in Iron Banner, as random drops in Trials of Osiris, and as a supplemental drop in Nightfall Strikes.

The studio adds that completing the daily Crucible challenge will also reward players with a package that contains Passage Coins used to gain entry in the Trials of Osiris, as well as Glimmer, Motes of Light, and more.

In addition, when House of Wolves launches, all three multiplayer maps from the Expansion I: The Dark Below will be free to download for all players, with or without the DLC. That includes The Cauldron, Skyshock, and Pantheon. When purchased separately, the original expansion can be purchased for $19.99 USD or the Season Pass for $34.99 USD.

House of Wolves introduces four new multiplayer maps to Destiny – Thieves’ Den, Black Shield, Widows Court, and a timed-PlayStation exclusive, Timekeeper. Watch all four in action right here.

New Black Ops 3 Gameplay Details – No More Panic Knifing, New ADS Mechanics, Pick-10 Returns, New Scorestreaks, & More

New gameplay details are pouring out that paint a better picture of the type of Call of Duty game Treyarch studios is making with Black Ops 3, revealed to audiences just two days ago.

As a major disclaimer, Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar stresses that, being this early in production, most, if not all of the information that has been gathered thus far is not final. “We are pre-pre Alpha,” he said on Twitter, “so nothing is final and all of this is subject to change as we dial it all in and lock it all down.”

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the latest details.

According to those who’ve had hands-on time with the game, Black Ops 3’s Create-A-Class once again adopts the Pick-10 system that gained much popularity in Black Ops 2. It returns in more-or-less the same fashion, but with a few alterations.

As before, players will be able to use Wildcards to stock up on Perks — six in total, if they so desire — or make extra room to equip up to four grenades — two lethal and two tactical. The option to equip two primary weapons is also still there with Wildcards like Overkill.

What differs in Black Ops 3 is the way attachments are organized. For starters, weapon optics are now counted in their own separate slot. Furthermore, utilizing Wildcards, secondary weapons can equip up to two attachments in addition to an optic, while primary weapons can equip up to five attachments in addition to an optic.

Weapons Variants you create through the Gunsmith feature, including your attachments, camo patterns, and paint jobs, can be named and loaded into Pick-10 as its own unique weapon that can’t be altered in your loadout. Advanced Warfare’s Supply Drops won’t appear in Black Ops 3.

Unlike Advanced Warfare, Scorestreaks will remain in their own menu separate from the Pick-10 options.

According to previewers, Black Ops 3’s perk and attachment list is still under development, but YouTuber Drift0r talked about a new attachment called High Caliber that increases your weapon’s headshot damage. According to TmarTn, Perks like Dead Silence and Awareness will also return in the Perk 3 slot, though that is subject to change.

UPDATE: 1 Vonderhaar has confirmed that Flak Jacket will be in the game as it appeared in Black ops 2. He noted that Scavenger is also in while Toughness is out. As for the amount of flinch players experience when getting shot in Black ops 3, “it’s ‘about’ 1/2 the amount between having Toughness and not (BO2),” he says. “Subject to change.”

Melee attacks have seen a pretty major overhaul and “panic knifing,” as the Call of Duty community knows it, will no longer play a role in combat. Instead, upon pressing the melee button or key, your soldier will attack with the butt of his or her weapon, dealing damage but not outright killing the opponent. At least two are required for a kill, though the attacks do have a slight knock-back and stun effect. That said, players can still deliberately pull out their knife as a secondary weapon to score a one-hit kill.

According to Drift0r, C4 has also been reworked to be more powerful, but can only be detonated once the charge has landed on a surface. It can no longer be detonated mid-throw.

Drift0r also describes a new Aim Down Sights mechanic with long-range scopes that makes aiming with sniper rifles or other long-range weapons feel noticeably easier. Sensitivity has allegedly been scaled more appropriately to make zooming in more useful. To counter, powerful Sniper Rifles will be balanced accordingly, though it’s not exactly clear how.

UPDATE 2: Here’s Vonderhaar with some clarification on this subject:

YouTuber chaosxsilencer was able to confirm that gibbing and gore are a part of Black Ops 3 multiplayer in addition to co-op campaign and likely Zombies. He also described new Scorestreaks like the Hover RC Car (HC-XD) that can climb vertical surfaces, the “Flaming Wrecking Ball,” the Stealth Wraith (Stealth Chopper), the GI Unit that can patrol or defend and area, and the Mothership (a three-man Chopper Gunner). Like the attachments and perks, these are also subject to change.

We’ve still more to learn, so keep your sights on our dedicated Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 page for upcoming news.

Battlefield Hardline’s Community Test Environment Arrives Next Month, New “Criminal Activity” Map Revealed

Following in the footsteps of DICE LA, Battlefield Hardline developer Visceral Games has announced a special test environment where the studio will soon begin enlisting willing members of the Battlefield community on PC to help shape the future of the game.

Similar to Battlefield 4’s Community Test Environment, The Battlefield Harldline CTE will give players the chance to provide their own feedback on new gameplay features, weapons, and even multiplayer maps, to help balance and fine-tune future updates and patches for the game.

“Coming next month, we will launch the Battlefield Hardline CTE on PC,” Visceral wrote in a news update. “Although it’s separate from the Battlefield 4 CTE, the Battlefield Hardline CTE will serve the same purpose. Members will be able to help us test gameplay fixes, balance tuning, and upcoming content before it gets into the game.”

First on the list, designers want to hear your feedback on a new map coming to Battlefield Hardline called “Criminal Activity.”

“The first thing we’re preparing to test on the Battlefield Hardline CTE is one of the new maps in Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity, in addition to netcode and bullet update improvements. We’ll have more info on that and how to sign up soon.”

We’ll have those updates as they come, so keep your sights on MP1st for the latest on Battlefield Hardline.

Battlefield Hardline’s first major game update rolled out on all platforms earlier today. Click here to find out what changes were made.

Halo 5: Guardians – Key Art Teaser Completed, Master Chief’s Blue Team And Spartan Locke’s Squad Revealed

“Last week, several cryptic images were released to various online channels across the globe…no instructions, no explanation, no references to the Halo universe,” Microsoft wrote in a new Xbox Wire update. “It didn’t take long for Halo Nation to scour the Internet to piece together the mystery to reveal the cover art for Halo 5: Guardians.”

“Today, we’re proud to release the final cover art for Halo 5: Guardians, including a special video version that highlights the Spartan fireteams that play a crucial role in the showdown between the Master Chief and Spartan Locke.”

“Who are these Spartans? This and many more mysteries will be uncovered as we draw closer to the world premiere of Halo 5: Guardians at E3 2015. Join us as we #HUNTtheTRUTH.”

Here are some alternate shots of the two teams under the leadership of Master Chief and Spartan Lock (more details in the original story below):

Original Story

As the recently surfaced Halo 5: Guardians teaser puzzle nears completion, the two teams of Spartans led by Master Chief and Spartan Locke are revealed.

Master Chief’s Blue Team

If you’ve been keeping up with the Halo: Escalation comic book series, you’ll know that Master Chief was last seen leading a squad of Spartan II’s known as Blue Team on an unknown mission with an unknown purpose. If you match the armor styles up, the comic confirms that Spartans Linda, Kelly, and Fred will likely join Master Chief in Halo 5: Guardians.

As a side note, you’ll notice that Chief’s armor has been repaired following the events of Halo 4 and Halo: Escalation.

Spartan Locke’s Squad

The identity of the team lead by Spartan Locke, opposite of Master Chief and previously teased in Halo 2 Anniversary’s cutscenes, is still unknown. Though, based on Locke’s personal history and the events of the Halo: Nightfall digital series, it’s safe to say that they are aligned with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in contrast to Chief’s alignment with the United Nations Space Command (UNSC).

There are a few good theories out there, however. Greenskull of Halo fan-site ReadyUpLive suggests two members of the ODST Alpha-9 team, Romeo and Buck, may have been assigned to Locke’s squad following the events of the Halo: First Blood novel. It’s also likely that Macer, a key character in Halo: Nightfall, may have followed in the footsteps of Locke by undergoing ONI training and transformation into a Spartan IV alongside him.

As we mentioned earlier, both images strongly suggest a focus on squad-based combat in Halo 5: Guardians with a high chance of four-player co-op across the game’s various story or mission-based modes.

In addition to the secretive gameplay details, we still have much to learn about the motives of each team, but that will likely become clearer as we inch closer to Halo 5: Guardians’ October 27 launch date. Keep your sights on MP1st for more Halo updates.

Big thanks to reddit user UKUMI0 for compiling these images.
