Saber Interactive Is Bringing A Free-To-Play Halo Game To PC In Russia

Microsoft has confirmed that Russian developer Saber Interactive is working on a free-to-play, multiplayer-exclusive Halo title for the PC called Halo Onine, soon entering closed beta in Russia.

Saber Interactive is originally known for its work on other first-person shooters like TimeShift and Inversion, but it has also assisted developer 343 Industries in the creation of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The game is reported to be published by MMO outfit, Innova Systems.

According to the official Q&A, Halo Online “is set on a secret UNSC space installation called Anvil, where Spartan-IV soldiers train together in war exercises to sharpen their battle skills and test experimental technology.”

The shooter is being built specifically for a Russian audience, though any expansion outside “would have to go through region-specific changes to address player expectations.” It’s also 100% exclusive to PC and the company has “no plans to bring Halo Online to the Xbox One.”

No official launch date was given.

UPDATE: Check out the announcement trailer above and the game’s official key art below.

Battlefield Hardline Review – Strong Maps & Modes Are Evidence Of A Worthy Cops & Criminals Shooter

Visceral Games, a video game developer known for its work on the acclaimed trio of sci-fi, action-horror games in the Dead Space series, isn’t exactly a newcomer to the Battlefield franchise and its dealings with all out, combined arms, modern warfare. You may recall Battlefield 3’s End Game expansion, which was, in fact, handled by the guys and gals at the California-based studio and was even remembered as one of the game’s more exceptional add-ons.

Two years since, Visceral is once again in hot pursuit of delivering yet another Battlefield experience, this time as a fully-realized, all-encompassing standalone shooter set in a Hollywood-inspired cops and criminals universe. As a rarely explored context inside the competitive first-person shooter scene, perhaps aside from Counter-Strike’s terrorist and counter-terrorist units, facing off as fully-armed combatants on opposite sides of the law in a modern, more relatable setting is a dream come true for almost any shooter fan.

One week after launch, is Battlefield Hardline the definitive cops vs. criminals shooter we’ve all been waiting for, or is Visceral guilty of failing to live up to the Battlefield name and the identity it hopes to achieve?

BFH

Before we take a step behind the yellow tape in search of clues that might lead us to our final verdict, let’s bring in the primary suspect for questioning; let’s talk about Battlefield Hardline’s launch. Depending on how badly you were burned by the series’ history of offenses, Hardline’s excellent delivery may not completely annul EA’s imaginary criminal record, but it’s certainly done an exceptional job restoring some faith in the franchise.

Not only was I able to connect to servers at zero hour flawlessly, but the first week into the live environment has proven to be almost entirely free of disconnects, crippling lag, or “rubber-banding”. Things took a bit of a nose dive at the end of day two, but as far as my understanding goes, that instance had more to do with uncontrollable outside circumstances. Somebody lock up those pesky DDOSers! Still, it’s clear that EA and Visceral knew they had to get launch day and launch week right, and, so far, I think they nailed it.

What’s certain is that EA and Visceral’s decision to err on the side of caution and give Hardline those few extra months of development time has undoubtedly paid off. The result is a stable game and a fleshed out cops and criminals multiplayer experience that draws from a rich fiction of iconic Hollywood heists and highly adrenalized car chases.

Hardline might be a pseudo-Battlefield game without stealth jets, armored tanks, and attack choppers, but you won’t miss them one bit after getting into the thick of things and stepping into the shoes of a cop working undercover, an armored SWAT member, a reckless banger, or a professional thief. Role playing in Hardline is made all-too-easy thanks to the believable character design and authentic but often hilarious M-rated dialogue heard on both sides of the law. But if that won’t sell you on the setting, Hardline’s exciting vehicular gameplay, quality multiplayer maps, and unique game modes will.

BFH

Four-door cruisers, two-door muscle cars, motorcycles, and armored trucks might not provide the same sort of firepower you’d get out of Battlefield 4’s more fiercely-equipped vehicles, but they offer just the right amount of function and help you to keep up with Hardline’s faster pace and infantry-focused gameplay. Transport options can be just as deadly though, especially when an armored truck or a sedan full of gun-toting individuals leaning out the windows rolls on by. Some vehicles can also be customized to carry machine guns or rocket launchers in the trunk, both of which have been removed from regular soldier loadouts for balance purposes.

Oddly, vehicles can only be customized during a match and aren’t included in the main out-of-game customization menu along with all the other weapons and gadgets, which is a small frustration. The pumping music and police sirens are a nice touch that help settle you in the proper mood to resist or make arrests. It’s also nice to feel the improved controllability while behind the wheel, even though it’s still very possible to get stuck on objects or tossed around by wonky vehicle vs. vehicle physics.

Naturally, vehicle selection varies depending on the map and game type, some of which extend the pickings to transport helis, scout choppers, patrol boats, and airboats. Whatever your preferred method of transportation, you’ll want to grab a ride when one’s around in order to zip between objectives as fast as possible, support your squad mates, and experience the thrill of the chase.

BFH_Bloodout_001

The nine maps in Hardline’s roster, all centered around locations in Los Angeles or Miami, are generally small to medium in size in order to accentuate the game’s satisfying and fast-paced gun-on-gun combat. You won’t find anything as grandiose as Battlefield 3 and 4’s Caspian Border, though maps like Riptide, Derailed, Dust Bowl, and Everglades are almost as comparable. All four stand out as exceptional Conquest and Hotwire maps with more moderate Levolution events that affect gameplay to a degree, some visually and some geographically. Sadly, destruction in general appears to be toned down dramatically on most of the new locales, save for two standouts, Hollywood Heights and The Block.

Hollywood Heights brings back the sorely-missed Micro-Destruction that was a key highlight and fan-favorite of Battlefield 3’s Close Quarters expansion. Bullets shred through walls of the luxurious mansion overlooking a brightly lit Los Angeles, creating new lines of sight and even new pathways. Meanwhile, a few well-placed explosives will send nearly half of the building crumbling into the pool below. The Block, undoubtedly Hardline’s smallest map with a simple three-lane layout, unexpectedly boasts the highest amount of destructibility. Entire buildings can be taken out section by section, completely changing the face of the suburban battlefield by the end of a match.

What strikes me, however, is the jarring difference between these smaller, more destructible environments and larger play spaces with nearly zero destructible buildings or objects. It leads to a very inconsistent experience across Hardline’s entire offering, as if there’s a constant trade-off between map size and things that can blow up. I suspect it’s likely due to memory constraints and performance considerations, but I have to wonder if the need to run on older generation consoles is the culprit here. It’s unfortunate, as Hardline could have been the perfect melting pot of both visual spectacle and practical destruction that would have put a smile on any Battlefield: Bad Company fan’s face.

Bank Job and Downtown, as many of you may remember from Hardline’s public betas, are the poster children of Visceral’s shooter and for good reason. Both are clear nods to the sort of inspiration the art and design teams drew from during development, including memorable scenes from movies like Heat and The Dark Knight. Recreating recognizable downtown Los Angeles settings, Bank Job and Downtown play very well as medium-sized maps that fittingly standout most notably in Hardline’s new star game mode, Heist. A strong dose of verticality in each also provides ample opportunity to make good use of the new Grappling Hook and Zip Line gadgets, making those successful rooftop getaways all the more rewarding.

BFH

Where Hardline really sets itself apart from an otherwise strictly military family of first-person shooter games is its offering of successfully unique game modes that bring the cops and criminals fiction to life. Heist, as previously mentioned, is easily the winner here.

Similar to Rush, which Visceral opted to do without this time around, players are tasked with a sequence of objectives, including breaking into or defending a vault, stealing or securing a pile of cash, and then performing or preventing a getaway. Unlike Rush, Heist is unpredictable and forces you to think and act quickly on your feet or constantly stay one step ahead of your enemy. I suggest starting your Hardline multiplayer experience here as it will help you familiarize yourself with key locations on each map as well as learn useful escape routes to different objectives.

At first glance, Blood Money struck me as an overly simplistic variation on Capture-the-Flag with a repetitive ruleset: get the money from the unsecured money pile, put it in your vault, repeat, etc. But as you realize that you can start messing with the enemy’s plan to do the same, like planning ambushes, laying traps for vehicles, or even stealing money from their vault, things get a little more interesting. It also means you and your team need to be careful about divvying up attack and defense responsibilities so the enemy can’t do the same to you. So, what starts off as an simple goal eventually turns into a more complex battle of team tactics and mind games.

Hotwire revs up the fun and rounds off Hardline’s trio of character-defining game modes. Imagine Conquest, then replace stationary capture points with moving vehicles that will only score your team points once you reach and maintain a certain speed. This one’s all about epic chases and explosions, but expect a rough ride dodging incoming grenade and rocket launchers and steering clear of breaching charges laid out by infantry.

In fact, Visceral will likely need to find a way to tone down the explosive spam significantly once players catch word of how effective RPGs and breaching charges are at scoring ‘E-Z’ multi-kills. Otherwise, trips won’t last for more than a few seconds and drivers won’t be as enthused about playing the objective. Hotwire, as it turns out, is also the best way to earn in-game money which can be used to buy weapons, attachments, gadgets, and customization items. It’s not really fair to those who get more enjoyment out of other modes, so I think the balance here really needs to be looked into. Scoring in some of Hardline’s more competitive modes, for example, can be underwhelming and often discouraging.

BFH

Much to my delight, Hardline showed up this season with a very strong offering of competitive, 5 vs. 5, round-based, no-respawn game types. Rescue mode is no surprise; secure the hostages and escort them back to base or eliminate the enemy team. In Crosshairs, the VIP must successfully extract at one of two locations with the support of their rescuers. The criminals’ only concern is to take out the high-value target, so things can get pretty intense and rounds usually go by pretty quick. Following death, players are free to spectate surviving team members.

Rescue and Crosshairs are the types of modes that are as fun to watch as they are challenging to play in an eSports setting, but in public matches, the challenge is often lost amidst a plague of early quitters. While other shooters with similar modes do them better, I’m still glad both game types are present here in Hardline, as they make fantastic organized private match options.

Since it wouldn’t really be a Battlefield game with out them, both Conquest Large and Conquest Small make an expected return, but with a focus on infantry-based combat accentuated by transportation vehicles, as I touched on earlier.

64-player Team Deathmatch caps off the list of seven modes in total, and while the player capacity increase sounds like a bundle of fun, severely broken spawns lead to some very frustrating deaths. Not only do they appear to be completely random, but I’ve been spawned into enemy lines of sight and have had enemies spawn in mine on countless occasions. If you’re only in it to grind out weapon kills and don’t take your TDM too seriously, you can get some enjoyment out of the mayhem. Otherwise, I’d stay away from this one and spend your time in more well-thought out modes like Heist and Blood Money.

BFH

Combat in Hardline places a greater emphasis on movement speed and the distinction between various effective ranges of all four classes. Operators are most effective at medium range with their fully automatic carbines and assault rifles while Enforcers can either defend themselves at close range with shotguns or pose a threat at long range with battle rifles. Mechanics operate most effectively at close range with their extremely deadly personal defense weapons while Professionals will dominate at long to extra-long range with marksman rifles and sniper rifles.

Some classes are more effective in certain game types than others, and the Operator, which was previously the Assault class, once again reigns supreme as the most versatile, helpful, and powerful kit. What balance is present is thanks to the reduction of available gadgets and equipment compared to previous titles. Loadout options are made up of only a few class-specific gadgets, which not only helps define each kit more clearly, but also helps cut down drastically on the explosive spam that nearly sucked the fun out of Battlefield 4. Less is more and I think Hardline proves that.

I’d normally say that the smaller selection of weapons within each class also leads to more meaningful loadout decisions, but within my relatively limited experience of game thus far, I’ve already discovered that some weapons are clearly superior to others. You could argue that, to balance it out, they’re more expensive to unlock. But, in Hardline, money equals time and we know there’s plenty of that. So, if you’re one to only concern yourself with equipping the the most effective items for your favorite class, you likely won’t find much variation here.

The weapon models themselves are also presented differently from previous titles, both in their appearance and how they’re held. To my eyes, they look much cleaner and better cared for, and because they’re carried closer to your hip while running and walking, large optics and other attachments no longer obstruct your field of view.

BFH

Visceral’s decision to move from a progression-based unlock system to a currency-based one also affects the way you earn attachments, which means you no longer have to grind through Battlepack after Battlepack in hopes of randomly unearthing that one attachment you were after. My big concern here, however, is that if we’re to spend our hard-earned cash on unlocking items, there must be a way to test them out before making the purchase. I spent tens of thousands on the SA-58 OSW battle rifle only to realize I don’t like the way it kicks, nor do I find it very visually appealing.

It also doesn’t help when the pricing system is a tad too confusing. Why is the Micro T1 red dot sight more expensive than the COMP M4S when they both offer the same magnification? Is it just some arbitrary cost attached to the sight? Is the game telling me that the Vertical Grip is better than the Stubby Grip because it costs more? Again, it just means more time spent on experimentation, but a test range of some sort sure would make life a lot easier. It might be a bit of a step backwards, but Hardline does take the necessary steps forward in its loadout design, now with up to five different presets, making switching in-between deaths a much more pleasurable.

Movement speed in general is just a touch quicker than previous Battlefield titles, though switching to a secondary weapon or sidearm will boost your speed even further. Get used to swapping at round start in order to make it to objectives and choke points quicker. The faster pace, along with an overall tightening up of movement in general, leads to some of the most satisfying and responsive infantry combat I’ve experienced in a Battlefield game yet. I feel more in control of my soldier than ever before and gunplay is as ‘snappy’ as it was back in the Bad Company days. Dialing in shots with a long-range sniping also no longer feels as clumsy. Time-to-kill might feel a tad quicker than some are used to, which I think that can be attributed to the lighter recoil on most fully-automatic weapons.

BFH

While Battlefield Hardline is chock full of gameplay improvements that are all worthy of praise, I think what fuels the argument that ‘it should have been Battlefield 4 DLC’ is its lack of any technical innovation.

There are nearly no notable graphical improvements over Battlefield 4, nor are there any prominent advancements in the audio department, even though the series’ sound design has always been best-in-class. I still feel like the hit notification is as imprecise as it has always been; I’m still taking damage after taking cover and losing health quicker than I suspect I really am. Worst is the handful of resilient audio and graphical bugs that seem to pop back up with every Battlefield release, the most annoying being the continuous sound drop outs. I wouldn’t consider these things a deal breaker, but improvements in these areas sure would have helped Visceral’s case for Hardline’s $60 price tag.

4 / 5

A greater effort in creating a more unique identity for the shooter would’ve helped Hardline stand on its own two feat, though Visceral still managed to put some real character back into the series that was missing since DICE’s Bad Company spin-offs. As it just so happens, Hardline is also the most fun I’ve had in a Battlefield game since then and there are revisions here that even DICE, the father of the Battlefield franchise, could learn from.

While it isn’t wise to rely on downloadable content to patch in what’s missing at a game’s launch, I can’t help but look forward to some of the themes Visceral might potentially explore in future expansions to fine tune Hardline’s subject matter even further. A re-creation of a 1950s New York City caught in middle of a war between the NYPD and a notorious organization of gangsters comes to mind as something that would make for a meaningful addition. Thankfully, Hardline’s refined combat, thoughtful map design, and appropriately-themed and addicting game modes will make the wait until then a pleasure.

For now, case closed.

This review was based on the Xbox One version of Battlefield Hardline provided by Electronic Arts. It’s also available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Advanced Warfare Exo Zombies Infection DLC – New Environments, Weapons, and Enemies Teased

The official Call of Duty Twitter account has been busy tweeting out new images, video clips, and audio clips from the upcoming “Infection” Exo Zombies map that will launch with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Ascendance DLC later this month.

The new map is centered around Burgertown, originally made famous in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and will introduce a few new enemies, including a massive Goliath Zombie with its own high-powered battle suit and gigantic ballistic shield. There’s also a crazy new weapon which looks like something out of a Doom game, but it’s appropriate nevertheless. You can never go overboard when it comes to slaying zombies.

These Are Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Five “Best” Guns, Says Sledgehammer

We ask ourselves every time we create a new loadout, ‘What are the best guns in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare?’ There are many to choose from; some based on real life designs and some completely fictional. Not to mention the hundreds of weapon variants that players can unlock through Supply Drops.

We praised Advanced Warfare’s weapon selection in our review for being distinct, bringing “real purpose to each and every weapon choice…” But there are always those few that end up at the top of the list of badassery. You’ve probably made your own top-five list in your head by now, but what do the official stats say?

Sledgehammer Games Studio Head Michael Condrey listed these off on Twitter as the game’s five best guns in terms of kill-to-death ratio. According to him, they are:

5. Pytaek – Loophole

4. Bal-27 – Obsidian Steed

3. HBRa3 – Insanity

2. Ameli – Heavy

1. ARX-160 – Hole Puncher

Surprised? We were pretty taken aback by the ARX-160 in first place. But, after all, it’s a highly-accurate burst-fire assault rifle reminiscent of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s all-powerful M16, so perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised.

Speaking of weapons, Condrey dropped a pretty big hint yesterday that a new one might be coming to Advanced Warfare in the near future. You can check out the picture here.

What about you? What are your top five favorite weapons in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare? Tell us in the comments!

Halo 5: Guardians Teaser Page Reveals Episodic Reports On Master Chief By Fictional War Journalist

The count down timer spotted on the mysterious Halo 5: Guardians teaser site that surfaced only a few days ago has hit zero, revealing a fictional report on the Master Chief written by a war journalist “Benjamin Giraud”.

The report includes the following audio memo, as well as the same teaser video that debuted yesterday, painting the iconic Halo protagonist as a supposed traitor.

New Halo 5 artwork also debuted, featuring two of key characters we know about in the game thus far, Agent Locke and Master Chief:

Halo 5 CAvp9eLUYAAlRdY

There are likely clues to be found elsewhere on the new website, so keep your eyes open. As our friends at ReadyUpLive pointed out, the bullet in the teaser trailer reveals the words Son, Abductee, Victim, Orphan, Recruit, Soldier, Warrior, Ally, Hero, Savior, and Traitor, which clearly represent the life of Master Chief thus far. You can scroll through the video frame by frame and see for yourself:

We suspect each week’s episode will dig deeper into the set-up for Halo 5: Guardian’s story and the mysteries it holds, so stay tuned.

Halo 5: Guardians launches on Xbox One with dedicated server support for online matchmaking and custom games later this year.

Keep your sights locked on MP1st for more Halo news.

Reload Studios Announces Triple-A Virtual Reality Multiplayer Shooter, World War Toons

After some anticipation of their previously teased announcement at this year’s VRLA Expo, Reload Studios has lifted the curtain off their debut virtual reality project, a “laugh-out-load first-person shooter and tank combat game” called World War Toons.

World War Toons is currently in its Alpha stage and is presently centered around team-based multiplayer deathmatches that make use of power-ups and special abilities. It’s probably not exactly what you were expecting, but Executive Producer Pete Blumel says it was the studios goal “to make something fun and accessible for everyone.”

“We’re excited to be trying things that are still new to the medium,” he added. “From its very inception, the team has strived to take full advantage of the amazing presence and sense of immersion offered by emerging virtual reality hardware.”

According to VRFocus’ preview of the shooter, the control scheme limits strafing movement to the left analog stick, while forward and backward movement is mapped to the face buttons. This, in combination with the player’s ability to pivot their head, look around, and aim makes for a control scheme that “works incredibly well.” Combat is likened to Quake games but with the addition of a ‘jump in’ tank system that gives the player extra fire power, better movement speed, and more health for a limited time.

Official release dates and platforms for World War Toons are still unannounced, though the company announced that a version for 2D monitors is also in the works. You can visit the game’s official website here.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Might Get Another New DLC Weapon, Sledgehammer Hints

What’s this fancy-looking thing that Sledgehammer Games Studio Head Michael Condrey tweeted out earlier today? If you’re thinking what we’re thinking, it’s probably some sort of new DLC weapon that the studio plans to to introduce to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare some time in the near future.

Here’s the image Condrey tweeted with the caption, “Happy Sunday #intel”:

CAuTmGiWYAAfNWo.jpg-large

We think it’s some sort of old-style double barrel revolver with fancy engraving and gold/silver-plated hardware, but some members of the Call of Duty community are speculating the possible return of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Model 1887 shotguns. After all, Condrey has shown interest in what classic weapons the community would like to see return in Advanced Warfare.

Here’s his latest tweet on the subject:

What do you think?

Advanced Warfare’s second multiplayer expansion, Ascendance, for which we’ll see the first trailer at this year’s Call of Duty Championship, also includes a new weapon called the OHM, a 2-in-1 light machine gun and shotgun.

UPDATE 1: A quick Google search for “double barrel revolver” produces this very comparable image to the one above:

lm-1846-left-1800-1This one happens to be the Le Mat, Paris Confederate Second Model Percussion Double-Barrel Revolver in .42 caliber.

UPDATE 2: Our friend @xMaccabix spotted another image of the Le Mat that’s even more similar to the teased image above, even down to the gold and silver plating:

The official Rainbow Six Twitter has confirmed that fans can now sign up for the Closed Beta waiting list, or pre-order the game for guaranteed access to the upcoming Closed Beta.

Still no official launch date has been revealed.

Original Story

While not officially announced yet, it seems that an image recently uploaded online indicates that Rainbow SIx Siege will indeed expand its testing to a closed Beta stage on all available platforms.

As seen on reddit, user j_dirty posted the image of an early promotion stand that GameStop had placed up at a unknown location. In it, it states that if you pre-order Rainbow SIx: Siege, you’ll be promised access to its upcoming closed Beta. No date for the Beta was given, though we don’t expect it to be to far out as the game is currently being tested in a closed Alpha stage on PC and has a release window of this year.

Halo 5: Guardians Will Extend Dedicated Server Support To Custom Games

Now, you’ll be able to beat up your friends without connection issues or pesky host advantages.

343 Industries Executive Producer Josh Holmes confirmed yesterday that Halo 5: Guardians will not only utilize dedicated servers for Online Matchmaking, but also Custom Games.

“We only have dedicated servers for MP in Halo 5: Guardians,” he wrote on the TeamBeyond Forums. “That’s true for matchmaking AND customs. There is no P2P.”

Previous Halo titles, including Halo: The Master Chief Collection, have always relied on a peer-to-peer connection for Custom Games. For those who notice these sorts of things, the set up can lead to some discrepancies between the host of the match and the rest of the players, as connections rely heavily on the host’s connection strength. On paper, dedicated servers should ensure a smooth and fair experience for all players.

While Holmes stated “There is no P2P” in Halo 5, it’s not clear what sort of set up co-operative play might employ.

Yesterday, a mysterious Halo 5: Guardians teaser site was spotted with a countdown leading to Sunday night, which is presumably when fans might learn something new about the game.

Borderlands Fans Can Now Upload Previous-Gen Save Files To Prepare For The Handsome Collection Launch, Here’s How

With Borderlands: The Handsome Collection’s launch just a week away, Gearbox Software revealed details on how veteran Vault Hunters can export their saves from older-generation platforms onto the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

You can do so by following the steps below:

  • Ensure all versions of the games are up to date with the latest patch (old-gen and new-gen) and you are connected to PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.
  • From the main menu of the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of BL2 or BL:TPS, choose the “Cross Save” (PlayStation consoles) or “Cloud Save” (Xbox consoles), then “Upload Save” function.
  • Once the save has been uploaded, choose “Cross Save” or “Cloud Save” then “Download Save” from the main menu of the PS4 / Xbox One Handsome Collection game for which you’re downloading the save.

However, there is one downside for those who are planning to either import their saves or start a fresh run. According to developers, any of the Golden Keys that you may have accumulated in the past will be wiped along with any items in Claptrap’s stash. Though Gearbox Software will offer fans the following as a compensation:

Borderlands 2

  • 75 Golden Keys
  • A healthy chunk of Badass Rank
  • Bonus character customizations

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

  • 75 Golden Keys
  • A healthy chunk of Badass Rank
  • Bonus unique weapons and character customizations

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection arrives March 24 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Halo 5: Guardians Teaser Site Counts Down To Sunday Night, New Teaser Video

Update

A “Hunt The Truth” video teaser has popped up, showing the bullet pictured in the teaser site flying into and destroying Master Chief’s helmet. What do you think it could mean?

[REMOVED]

Edit: The YouTube video has swiftly been removed, but you should still be able to find it at this Tumblr link. Just in case, here are a few screen caps of what happened:

Original Story

A mysterious Tumblr site we stumbled upon is counting down to something Halo 5: Guardians-related this Sunday night, March 22, at 6:00PM PST.

The site shows nothing but a count down, an image of a flying bullet with the word “traitor” on it, the hashtag #HUNTtheTRUTH, and the official Halo 5: Guardians logo. We know it’s legit because Halo Franchise Director at 343 Industries Frank O’Connor shared the link:

Similarly, Halo Multiplayer Designer Quinn DelHoyo had this to add:

Sunday night is an odd night to reveal anything, so we’re pretty stumped on what it might end up being. Perhaps we’re getting closer to a story-related look at Master Chief’s continuing journey in Halo 5: Guardians? What are your thoughts? Keep your sights on MP1st for more Halo updates.

Mortal Kombat X Devs Reveal New “Quitality” And Character Fighting Styles, Predator Guest Character Leaked

Following its last developer presentation that focused on Mortal Kombat X fighter Johnny Cage and the first chapter of the game’s story, NetherRealm Studios is back with another Kombat Kast stream giving the public a first look at three more recently revealed characters.

This week’s spotlight shines on Kung-Jin, Mileena, and Kenshi’s son, Takeda. You can watch the footage for each fighter below:

[youtube id=”0lFQ1eH8Nhc”]

Additionally, this week’s stream also revealed a new -ality addition to the Mortal Kombat series that takes aim those who tend to quit their matches mid-game. Now, a “Quitality” is performed on any character that leaves a match before the round is over.

[youtube id=”KkuGfYU_amA”]

Speaking of matches, NetherRealm also revealed a new game mode called Custom Matches, which allows you and the opponent to pick any of the modifiers that you’ve unlocked through the Living Towers or the Krypt to be applied to the fight. Unfortunately, custom matches will only be available via local multiplayer.

There’s also some good news for those who will be purchasing the PlayStation 4 version of Mortal Kombat X, which was announced to support PlayStation 3 arcade sticks.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Of note, however, is that Xbox One owners can now pre-order and pre-load the game, which will officially unlock at 12:01 PST, April 14. You’ll find the Premium Edition and the Standard Edition on the Xbox Store along with the Samurai Pack whose store page offers a cool look at some of the new costumes:

It has come to our attention that the Xbox store description for Mortal Kombat X’s Combat Pack appears to have let out the news that the iconic Predator character will make an appearance as a guest character along side Jason Voorhees.

“Kombat Pack grants early access to 4 new playable characters and skin packs. Stalk and slash your opponents as Horror Icon Jason Voorhees, or play as Predator, the Ultimate Hunter,” the description reads.

The Predator sure is a good fit for the Mortal Kombat universe, after all. What do you think? Keep your sights on MP1st for updates.

Destiny Update 1.1.2 Will Let You Tweak Chat Volume, Mute Music, And Turn On Colorblind Mode

Along with some of the gameplay improvements that were outlined last week, Destiny developer Bungie will be changing up the way you see and hear the game with Update 1.1.2, launching later next month.

Soon, the update will introduce a handful new Settings that will allow you to greatly customize the audio and visual presentation in Destiny, including new color options and volume sliders.

“We’ve put a lot of thought into the best way to answer player feedback when it comes to audio.” Bungie Head of Audio Jay Weinland wrote in the studio’s latest Weekly Update.

“It’s been clear that there are times when you want to elevate the voices of your friends above the mix. Chat Volume is a setting that will let you adjust the players on your team in a range from 50% up to +125%. Game Volume adjusts all in-game dialogue, sounds effects, and music as one cohesive unit in a range from 0% to 100%. Keep in mind that Chat Volume adjusts the chat volume out of your speakers but not out of your chat headset (you should have your own volume for that).”

The new update will also allow players to mute Destiny’s soundtrack completely, so you can can kick alien ass to the sound of your own tunes.

“Some players have asked us for the ability to listen to their own music while they play,” Weinland added. “If you want to do that, we’ll try not to take it personally! If you select Muted, the music will be excluded from the mix altogether.”

For those audio nerds out there, Bungie says there’ll also be a little audio Easter egg to find once the new update drops. “It’ll be in there, somewhere,” Weinland wrote. “Once the update is live, see if you can find it…”

Gamers who deal with some form of color blindness will also be happy to see, literally, some of the new color options that will be available in Update 1.1.2.

“Destiny relies on color to communicate some pretty important information to the player, particularly in the user interface,” says User Interface Design Lead David Candland.

“You may not have trouble distinguishing the red blips on the motion tracker from the red surface of Mars, for example, but chances are you know someone who does. Our solution for this subset of our community is a proper ‘Colorblind Mode’ for Destiny.”

New Settings will include modes for Deuteranopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia and will apply to all aspects of Destiny’s visual presentation, including loot drops, ammo drops, enemy shields, and radar.

Loot and ammo drops are also getting a size and brightness increase to help with visibility in general, says Candland.

Bungie teases more info on Vault space in next week’s update, so stay tuned!

What’s The Deal With Battlefield Hardline’s Weapon Attachments? Here’s a Nifty Guide

If you’re like me and are always trying to squeeze the best possible performance out of your favorite weapons in Battlefield Hardline, you’ve probably already spent hours (and thousands of in-game dollars) experimenting with all sorts of different weapon attachment combinations, looking for the best fit for your gun and your play style.

Trouble is, Battlefield Hardline’s weapon attachment descriptions aren’t all that, well, descriptive. You might slap a particular barrel and grip combo on your M16A3 and say, ‘that feels about right.’ But are you really getting the best benefits possible? On top of that, there’s no way to test out any of the tech before spending your hard-earned cash, which can make experimentation an expensive ordeal.

Well, thanks to the wonderful fellows over at Symthic, there’s at least some info out there about what some of the weapon attachments in Battlefield Hardline actually do. Also, thanks to Battlefield YouTuber TheRussianBadger, you can find all that info in one nifty video guide, which we’ve included above.

If you want to get into the nitty gritty details, you can check out Symthic’s weapon attachment statistics page right here.

Have a look and you might just learn something. Also, be sure to share some of your successful weapon attachment combinations or class set ups in the comments below!

Aerial Combat Game Strike Vector EX Coming Soon To PS4 and Xbox One

Strike Vector, the fast-paced aerial combat PC shooter from Ragequit Corporation that first came to light in late 2013 and launched officially in early 2014, is soon heading to next-gen consoles, the studio announced today.

Other than the note that it’s “coming soon”, few details were offered alongside the release of the game’s new cinematic trailer, which you can catch above.

It’s not clear how Strike Vector EX might differ from its PC counterpart, but on the chance that they’re very similar, here’s a glimpse of the in-game action from the game’s original Steam launch trailer:
