Star Wars Battlefront Will Debut At Star Wars Celebration Next Month

Star Wars Battlefront will debut at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA, EA told us.

The Celebration takes place April 16-19 at the Anaheim Convention Center where fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise will learn more about the upcoming movie, The Force Awakens, and get to meet a few individuals who starred in the previous films, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Ian McDiarmid.

As EA announced, it’s also where fans will get their first look at DICE’s upcoming Star Wars-themed shooter, Star Wars Battlefront.

Little is known about the project, other than the shooter will provide a great variety of familiar maps and different game modes and will offer “gameplay that will allow players to live out some of their most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies,” according to Design Director Niklas Fegraeus. We also know that it will launch some time during the Holidays of this year for next-gen consoles and PC.

Leaked Mortal Kombat X Image Reveals In-Game Goro, Achievements And Trophies Outed

Just under a month away from launch and Mortal Kombat X developer Netherrealm Studios is starting to offer MK fans a plentiful taste of what’s to come for the next generation of MK, though not all of which was planned.

A leaked collection of in-game images was recently spotted, which appear to be from the game’s Achievement list, showing off a batch of previously unseen MKX characters in action. Goro can be seen in the collection below ripping his enemy into four in a classic move. Lovely.

Here’s a better shot of some images from the Achievement list.

Goro:

Shinnok’s Alternate Costume:

MKX’s Achievement which was recently outed courtesy of XboxAchievements will task you with participating in the game’s wide range of game modes, including Living Towers, Factions, and Online Matches. You’ll find them all at this link.

Last Friday, March 13, appropriate to the occasion, none other than the horror genre icon, Jason Voorhees, was revealed as the first of two guest DLC characters for Netherrealm’s fighter. The machete-wielding Friday The 13th star appeared in a teaser trailer, which you can check out here:

[youtube id=”wUTvVp4HDtI”]

Additionally, remember that Feudal Japan skin pack they we previously reported? It looks like it’s now actually a thing, as Warner Brother’s Interactive recently sent out a press release, calling it the “Samurai pack”:

“Starting April 14, 2015, when Mortal Kombat X launches worldwide, fans who purchase the Kombat Pack will receive the Samurai Pack containing three new character skins: Ronin Kenshi, Samurai Shinnok and Jingu Kitana, as well as an accompanying skin pack with each playable character. Kombat Pack owners will gain early access to the following future DLC content before it is available for sale individually.”

Speaking of skins, it looks like we’ve finally gotten the first look of the GameStop exclusive skin for Scorpion, Kold War. Check out the image below:

CAAnjiFWoAAjGLN

Last Friday was also time for new Kombat Kast, which showcased well-known MK fighter Johnny Cage to the public for the first time:

[youtube id=”iD4wa7ALo1E”]

As an added bonus, check out Ermac’s second fatality in its entirety. However, I must warn you that, even for an Mortal Kombat game, it’s pretty graphic.

Mortal Kombat X is set for a April 14 release for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms and is expected to be a 34.3 GB download. A release date for previous-gen MKX is still up in the air as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions have been quietly delayed.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Executive Producer Departs Infinity Ward, Former Lead Designer Returns

Executive Producer on 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, Mark Rubin, has left Infinity Ward, Activision has confirmed today.

The news follows a series of changes and announcements within Activision’s line up of Call of Duty studios, including Treyarch’s development duties on Call of Duty 2015, the addition of Sledgehammer Games to the franchise’s now three-year development cycle, and the merging of Neversoft with Infinity Ward earlier last year.

No further comment on Rubin’s departure was offered.

Though not directly replacing Infinity Ward’s now former Executive Producer (pictured above), Activision has also revealed that former Infinity Ward Lead Designer, Todd Alderman, will return to the studio as a Multiplayer Project Director after almost five years since his departure in 2010. EDIT: Corrected former and current position titles.

“I’m excited to be back,” Alderman told Polygon in a prepared statement.

“The chance to come back to Infinity Ward and Call of Duty is something I didn’t think would ever happen. It’s been five years since I’ve been here and a lot has changed. There are a lot of new faces and motivated people who want to make something great. It’s a really cool game concept that I want to be a part of. I can’t wait to see what we do with a three-year dev cycle.”

Alderman is among the handful of former Infinity Ward employees who formed Respawn Entertainment under the leadership of Jason West and Vince Zampella after a messy legal conclusion to their work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Alderman helped launch 2014’s sci-fi shooter, Titanfall, and, most recently, was a game designer at Riot Games.

Infinity Ward Studio Head David Stohl added, “This is about hiring the best talent for the right position.”

“Todd’s accomplishments speak for themselves. We’re happy to have him lead multiplayer development here at Infinity Ward as well as provide a level of leadership across the entire studio team. Following last year’s combination with Neversoft, we’ve continued to add some great talent throughout the studio. As we focus on the future, there’s a real sense of energy that has us all excited about what’s to come.”

Following the launch of Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare last year and with this year’s Call of Duty title in production at Treyarch, it’s generally understood that Infinity Ward will likely return in 2016 with their own follow up to Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Next Halo: MCC Update To Launch In April, First Look At Halo 3: ODST And Relic Remakes

Two weeks ago, Halo fans were happy to receive the latest game update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which had notable effects on the game’s online matchmaking and party system. But just as those still invested in the collection know, developer 343 Industries is aware that there’s still more to be done.

“We have another content update coming in April,” 343 Industries Executive Producer Dan Ayoub wrote in a recent Halo Waypoint blog update, “and we’ll provide more details as we get closer to launch.” Ranked play and continuous online lobbies are among a few of the things at the top of the wish list within community, but fans will have to sit tight before finding out if either will be addressed in April’s update. In the meantime, the studio has a few server updates planned in order to help improve the experience in between patches, says Ayoub.

That’s all well and good, but what’s up with those Halo 3: ODST and Halo 2 Anniversary Relic remakes that were promised to Halo fans affected by The Master Chief Collection’s troubled launch? Both were touched upon in today’s update.

“Below you can see a little sneak peek of our latest progress,” wrote Ayoub. “Additionally, our test and community teams have been running daily playtests on Relic to hammer on the map as much as possible. As we finish things up, we’ll be sharing much more and providing details on launch dates soon.”

Check the new screens below and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.

Uncharted 4 Release Moved To Spring 2016, Uncharted 3 Lead Multiplayer Designer Returns

It’s a cloudy day for Naughty Dog fans who were saddened to learn that the studio has opted to move Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to a Spring 2016 release. The silver lining, however, is that the decision was made for some pretty darn good reasons.

The action-adventure game, starring the charming Nathan Drake, originally set course for a Fall 2015 launch. But, as the studio wrote in a letter to fans, “it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.”

“After spending so many years with Nathan Drake, he means a lot to the team, and telling the climactic chapter of his adventures is a task we don’t take lightly – this game deserves every bit of the attention to detail, precise pacing, and nuanced storytelling Naughty Dog is known for.”

Considering Naughty Dog’s celebrated history of award-winning titles on the PlayStation 3, I think fans will gladly allow them the extra breathing room to deliver something extra awesome on the PlayStation 4. Still, that mouth-watering gameplay trailer shown to audiences earlier this Winter is going to make the wait just that much harder.

In other news, we learned today that lead multiplayer designer for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Robert Cogburn, will return to fill the same role on Uncharted 4’s multiplayer, which we’ll hopefully learn more this year.

Yup, There’s a Drivable “Merica” Couch In Battlefield Hardline

Battlefield Hardline isn’t even officially out on all platforms yet and, already, the Easter Egg hunt is on. Here on day one of early EA Access on Xbox One and the Battlefield community has caught a big one.

YouTuber JackFrags has the video above: a couch driving around and killing people. Yes, apparently, you can find a couch called “Merica” on Battlefield Hardline’s Dust Bowl map that you and three others can hop on and drive around, shooting your weapons or splattering enemies with road kills. It also happens to pack a lot of horse power and can catch some serious air off jumps.

Think we’re joking? Watch the video above to find out where you might discover ‘freedom’ for yourself. Nice find, guys!

Battlefield Hardline is playable now if you own an Xbox One and EA Access. Otherwise, Visceral Games’ cops vs. criminals shooter launches on all platforms on March 17.

Destiny – Here’s What Bungie’s Working On For Update 1.1.2

Bungie isn’t quite ready to give up the specific’s on Destiny‘s next big game update in the pipeline, but the studio is open to offering fans a look into some of the priorities at the top of the studio’s list.

More Vault space. Everyone wants it and Bungie knows you want it. Unfortunately, that’s about as detailed as the studio is willing to get on that subject, but fans can rest easy knowing they’re working on it. Raid fixes are also a top priority for the team, according to the studio’s latest Weekly Update, as are new audio and visual options. Furthermore, Bungie is looking into ways of tweaking match flow in PvP games and how to improve Strikes that are statistically more avoided than others.

Here are the latest notes, in Bungie’s words:

  • Vault Space – “We know you need more space to collect all the treasures you gain from your missions, and more gear is on the way.”
  • Raid Fixes – “There are times when Atheon and Crota can be uncooperative, so we’re tackling their worst bugs.”
  • Audio and Visual – “Not everyone wants to see or hear a game the same way, which is why we’re looking at providing more options.”
  • PVP Ammunition – “The Crucible team wants to change the way ammo crates dictate the flow of a battle.”
  • Strikes – “The numbers tell us that there are some missions that are successfully completed far less than others, inspiring us to look at why people quit.”

Lastly, Bungie is also presenting a detailed list of Destiny bugs the studio is constantly looking into, as well as a few ways you might work around some of them. You’ll find that list below:

More details are to follow in the coming weeks, but that should give you a pretty good picture of some of the stuff that might be included in Destiny Update 1.1.2.

If you could offer up some of your own improvements, what would they be? Tell us in the comments.

Two New Evolve Maps Arrive On Xbox One This Month For Free, Later On PS4 And PC

Evolve, the 4v1 shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, is getting a couple of fresh maps to spice up the now one-month old title.

Broken Hill Mine and Broken Hill Foundry are arriving first on Xbox One at the end of this month, March 31, and will both be offered free of charge. PlayStation 4 and PC users can look forward to their arrival one month later on April 30.

broken_hill_mine_02_logo

Turtle Rock describes Broken Hill Mine as “a deep labyrinth of caves running below the surface of Shear” with a cave system that “divides into three visually distinct areas: One area is a rock quarry, a venom hound nest is set in another, and the last zone has a massive conveyor belt running through it.”

As with vanilla maps, different match outcomes will have different effects in Evolve’s Evacuation Campaign mode. Should the Hunters win, Mining Drones will be repurposed as Shield Drones that work in favor of the Hunters in the next match. If the Monster comes out on top, the area will become tectonically unstable in the next match, causing birds to scatter randomly, potentially deceiving watchful Hunters.

broken_hill_foundry_02_logo

Broken Hill Foundry moves the hunt into a more industrial setting. Turtle Rock describes it as “an overlapping mix of open areas, corridors and low ceilings create new tactical options for both Monster and Hunter players.”

In Evacuation, a Hunter Win will turn the energy-dense bohrium into a material that supercharges the Hunters’ jetpacks in the next match. A Monster Win will the turn bohrium gas emitting from the foundry’s rubble into a melee buff in the next match.

Both maps will be shown off in Turtle Rock’s upcoming stream this Friday at 3PM PST on their official channel where the studio will also be demonstrating the recently announced Observer Mode.

MKX “Cage Family Trailer” Shows Off First In-Game Footage Of Johnny Cage and Sonya, Last-Gen MKX Possibly Delayed

Get ready for to meet Earthrealm’s deadliest family: The Cages. The latest Mortal Kombat X trailer focuses on the deadly trio, showing off Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and their daughter, Cassie Cage, in action.

According to the GDC folks who’ve played Mortal Kombat X’s first story mode chapter which focuses on Johnny Cage, here are his three variations:

  • Fisticuffs: (Gold ‘CAGE’ knuckle-dusters)
    • Adds Fist Bump and Flashy combos and normal attacks.
  • Stunt Double: (Green tinted sunglasses)
    • Adds the ability to create Stunt Double Mimic moves.
  • A-List: (Black forearm bandages)
    • Can Charge Normal and Special moves for increased damage.

It’s also been reported that the “boss” for the chapter, Shinnok, has moves reminiscent of Shang Tsung as he’s able to summon projectiles from the ground that travel in a vertical trajectory. One of his variations is also being called “Imposter” which lets him borrow moves from his opponents, much like Shang Tsung. With that, it’s entirely possible that Shinnok will be playable in Mortal Kombat X.

From the reports that came from the first experience of MKX’s story mode, it appears that the following characters will be in the game but won’t be playable:

  • Sindel
  • Kabal
  • Stryker
  • Smoke
  • Nightwolf

We also see Fujin in the new sets of images that have been released of Mortal Kombat X, but his status in the game is still up in the air.

Additionally, those who will be playing the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X can look forward to unlocking console/PC skins for following characters:

  • Klassic Kitana
  • Farmer Jax
  • Injustice Scorpion

Now, with all of the great news about Mortal Kombat X out of the way, there may be a bit of bad news for those who will be purchasing the game on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 platforms. During the Cage Family trailer, the icons for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 appear to be missing on the April 14th release date. Furthermore, Amazon lists the release date for the last-generation consoles as June 30th. It could simply be a placeholder date, however, until the delay is officially announced. For now, keep your eyes peeled.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Titanfall Sequel Confirmed For Multiple Platforms, Respawn Considering Free Map Packs

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella has confirmed what we all almost already knew to be true; a Titanfall sequel is currently in development which will launch on multiple platforms.

Acknowledging the game’s existence for the first time, Zampella recently told IGN, “I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don’t know anything about it, or… yeah. So we’re working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we’re working on that. That’s the main focus but we’re starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It’ll be multiplatform.”

It’s likely that the title will remain multiplayer-only, though what’s really best for it is still up in the air.

“I mean it obviously prohibits a certain group of people playing the game, and as content creators you want to get into as many peoples’s hands as possible,” he explained.

“We put some single-player elements in there though, and tried to mix it up. Maybe we could have mixed things up a bit better because some people blew right by it and didn’t even see it because there was so much action happening around it. It’s tough, because if you hit people over the head with it it becomes intrusive, and there are people who don’t want or care about it. Where does the needle fall? I think it takes a while to figure that out and we haven’t figured it out yet.”

Zampella also hopes to handle DLC differently this time around and has considered offering map packs to fans for free as a way to keep Titanfall’s community playing together.

“I think that’s a fantastic way to do it,” he said. “I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it’s messy. Yeah. I don’t know we won’t do it again, I can’t say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different.”

Celebrating Titanfall’s first birthday, Respawn recently made the game’s DLC and Season Pass free on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.

Thanks, IGN

PlayStation 4’s “Yukimura” Update Will Add Suspend/Resume Feature And More

Sony has laid the rumors to rest, confirming that the PlayStation 4’s next system update will indeed introduce the Suspend/Resume feature to the console.

In a new blog post, Director of Product Planning & Software Innovation Scott McCarthy wrote that the feature, along with many other improvements, will arrive in the console’s “Yukimara” update in the near future.

He explained that, “Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games.”

“When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off,” he added. “Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them.”

There’s more, including the ability to Remote Play and Share Play games at 60 frames per second, better Facebook integration, and Trophy improvements. Have a look at the full list below.

PlayStation 4 “Yukimura” Update

Sub-account to Master account Upgrade

Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/.

Facebook Friend Search

Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PlayStation Network members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.

Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps

For games that support 60 fps, the ability to customize the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura.” Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play on supported devices.

Accessibility Options

“Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.

Trophy Improvements

We have received a ton of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura,” a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion.

Share Video Clips to Dailymotion

When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.

When asked about a solid release date, McCarthy answered, “We’re in BETA, you know that means getting it right, then committing to a release date. We’ll be ready to announce a date soon.” As for online friend alerts and NDLA support, he explained that the studio wants “PS4 versions of these features, not a cut/ paste from last gen,” and that fans should “Stay tuned.”

New Mortal Kombat X Images Showcase Classic Characters Johnny Cage and Mileena

Following a pretty revealing Story Mode trailer for Mortal Kombat X that showcased new and old characters alike, the Mortal Kombat community has since been discussing which of the returning characters that were shown will actually be playable.

Thanks to Amazon, we might finally have an answer, as the retailer posted new screens of both Johnny Cage and Mileena, which you can view below:

7600eb53-741b-42ba-bcb3-b04e39d84819._V327985138_ef3e924d-6ef5-46d8-a124-0e75e8c41237._V327985037_

An interesting note about the above Johnny Cage image is that he looks younger compared to the recently leaked image of him, Jax and Sonya. Though, it’s possible that the image was taken somewhere 25 years into the future of the story.

Additionally, the next upcoming Kombat Kast stream is set to happen this Friday at its usual time of 4:00 PM EST and will detail the story of Mortal Kombat X a little more.

Mortal Kombat X is set for an April 14 release on the PC, PlayStation 3 PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
