Watch Dogs Creative Director Outs PC “Ultra” Specifications

On the heels of a recently surfaced technical demonstration of Watch Dog’s intense visual capabilities on the PC, we’re now learning some of the PC specs required to run the game on an “ultra” graphics setting.

Watch Dogs Creative Director Jonathan Morin recently outed the requirements on Twitter, saying that “We expect a lot of different specs to run the game at a high. But here are the ultra specs for the few who have them and ask for it. Ultra specs: Intel Core i7-4770K with a GeForce 780.”

He also mentioned that in the trailer linked above, the game was running on an Intel Core i7-3930K with a GeForce Titan.

Watch Dog’s minimum system requirements were listed earlier last month. The game is coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3 on May 27. Watch Dogs on Wii U launches this Fall.

$42 Million in Funding Brings More Content to Star Citizen, New Footage Inbound

$42 Million in pledges means more in-game content for Roberts Space Industries’ crowd-sourced space combat sim, Star Citizen, as well as better perks for early backers.

In a recent “Letter From The Chairman,” studio head Chris Roberts detailed the newest additions to the game made possible by the recent achievement.

Updated Observist Guide

“Additional funding from the $42 million level will go to expanding the website area of the Galactapedia: expect to see holographic ships, items and navigation interface in 3D! Imagine admiring your ships or planning your loadouts right here at the RSI website.”

Explorer-class mobiGlas Rig

“Every player who backed before we hit $42 million will start the game with their own, visually distinctive mobiGlas ‘ExoGlas’ rig which can be used to access the Observist at any time. I’ve charged the mobiGlas team with a very difficult task: creating a realistic interface that will help keep your affairs in order in an expansive galaxy. It’s almost like building our own in fiction operating system for an imagined future, and it’s very different task than building spaceships. This backer-exclusive mobiGlas kit will come pre-loaded with additional galactic information that new players would ordinarily need to explore or barter to fill out; it’s our way of honoring the information you’ve collected about the Star Citizen universe through the RSI site and community over the past year.”

Gladius

“The Squadron 42 team will develop an additional fighter for the game, the Aegis Dynamics Gladius-class light fighter. The Gladius will be the first fighter built entirely from concept to CryEngine in the UK! Here’s the official description: The Aegis Gladius is the UEE’s reigning light short-range patrol fighter. A single-seat ship with no room for expansion, the Gladius is fast, maneuverable and capable of punching far above its weight. The main advantage to the design is simplicity: cheap to produce, easy to repair and outfit and quick to train new pilots on. The Gladius is an aging design nearing the end of its life-cycle, although iterative updates have kept it the most nimble fighter in the active fleet.”

Towel

“And of course, everyone who backs before we hit $42 million will also receive a towel for their hangar. Don’t explore the galaxy without it!”

Towel_rack

For those who didn’t quite catch it, the last item is a reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which the number 42 plays an important role.

Last weekend, at PAX East, RSI offered a real good look at Star Citizen’s dogfighting module, which you can can check out for yourself right here. If that wasn’t enough, anxious fans can look forward to more unseen footage in the near future. “We’ll be sharing some additional footage later in the week to let everyone see what we weren’t able to show at the event,” said Roberts.

Star Citizen is headed to PC sometime in 2015.

Thanks, VG247.

Xbox One April Update Rolling Out Tonight – Patch Notes

For those of you who aren’t apart of Microsoft’s Xbox One Update Preview program, the April update is rolling out tonight through tomorrow.

The new update offers a myriad of new features and fixes, which you can see below.

  • Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.
  • Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This was one of the most frequently requested features, so we made it a priority to include it in this update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list.
  • Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to be fine-tuned for quality and reliability of Xbox One commands. For example, we’ve updated some of the gesture functionality to reduce false positives on non-hand objects triggering gesture commands.
  • Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.
  • Blu-ray player supports 50 Hz video output for content recorded at 50 Hz. We’ll also be updating the Blu-ray Player app in the coming days to round out these improvements.
  • Controller and headset adaptor firmware updates will reduce audio static and improve wireless connectivity.
  • Silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand now available. If your console is in Instant On mode, the update will happen automatically and return to standby upon completion. This means you won’t need to power on your console after an update moving forward. If you want to take future updates when available without waiting for your console to do it on its own, we’ve added this option under system settings and you’ll be able to use it next update. It will only show as available when there is an update to take.

For more Xbox news, keep a look out on MP1st!

Thanks, Major Nelson.

Evolve – Turtle Rock Details Latest Tweaks To Monster Abilities, Ideal Match is Around 12 Minutes

Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock brought the latest build of their upcoming project, Evolve, to this year’s PAX East, showing off some of the game’s most recent progress.

Based on a vast amount of telementry data, a number of significant tweaks were made to Evolve’s gameplay since we last saw it in action, specifically to the way Evolve’s Monster class progresses throughout the course of a match.

Players will now accumulate points as they progress, which can be spent freely on three different abilities. In the case of the Goliath, the only monster we’ve seen so far, that includes abilities like Fire Breath, Rock Throw, and Dash.

“You can choose to spread your skill points across three abilities or max one of those abilities up,” 2K Game’s executive producer on Evolve, Denby Grace, told Polygon. “It’s really made your choices much broader.”

Choosing to invest in a single ability, it will gain attributes and improve significantly. But players may wish to even out their effectiveness by spreading points across multiple techniques.

“It has made for some really, really interesting strategies,” Grace said. “That was the biggest change we made.”

Through their findings, the studio also learned that about 12 minutes is the sweet spot for a match. That’s where players get the most out of their experience, Grace noted.

Watching fans as they get some hands-on time with the game at PAX, Grace says, “My biggest fear coming to the show as that the monster would dominate in every single game. But we’ve seen a pretty even split, like 60/40 toward the monster.”

Evolve is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this Fall.

PS4 – A Lot Of PlayStation News Happening This Week, Details On Firmware Update 1.7 “Coming Soon”?

Announced on March 19th, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 4 would be receiving a major update that was set to include many new features, including the much-requested removal of the dreaded HDCP.

Though they stated that the update would be available “Soon”, nearly a month has passed since we’ve gotten any word about it. However, it seems that may change this week.

English Community Manager at PlayStation Europe, Chris Owen, took to Twitter today to “tease” that there would be a lot of news coming out this week.

Moderation Specialist at SCEE also commented, saying it’s a “something for everyone kinda week!”

ag6mqDW

A bit later, he went on to post details about the upcoming LittleBigPlanet DC Premium Level pack, with a Twitter user asking if there will be news about the PS4 and if it’s firmware related. Owen responded with:

He also went on to acknowledge that PSN in Europe is experiencing some login issues, though he doesn’t have any clear details yet.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the update just came live out of nowhere, since Sony does seem to enjoy releasing them out of the blue.

The update was confirmed to include the removal of HDCP, the ability to export videos to a USB, better Twitch support, and other unannounced features.

Thanks, users of Neogaf.

Is Infinity Ward Teasing John “Soap” MacTavish as Next Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer DLC Skin?

Pictured above, it appears that developer Infinity Ward is teasing new upcoming micro-DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ multiplayer.

That handsome chap is John “Soap” MacTavish, protagonist of all three Call of Duty: Modern Warfare titles. The caption, “Continue? [YES] NO” is a play off Soap’s fate in Modern Warfare 3. We’ll try not to spoil things too much if you haven’t played it, however.

Either way, it’s quite possible that Soap will be making an appearance in Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer in an upcoming Legends Pack as Captain Price and Vladimir Makarov did before him. Traditionally, the pack would offer the soldier skin, weapon camo, reticles, and other customization items.

Expect an official announcement soon.

Halo 4 Ninja Assassins Playlist Debuts Today

Halo 4 is getting a fresh new matchmaking update today that introduces an exciting new game mode 343 Industries likes to call Ninja Assassins.

“We’ve been playtesting the game type over the past few weeks, and it requires stealth, precision, patience, and a whole lotta Thrustin’,” writes Halo Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynksy in the latest Halo Waypoint update. But what could that possibly mean?

According to Dudynsky, Ninja Assassins is an 8-player Free-for-All game type where Spartans suit up in custom armor and equip themselves with Energy Swords, Sniper Rifles, and Thruster Packs. Ten points are awarded per kill, but a successful assassination will earn you a total of 30 points – equal to three kills. Motion tracker is disabled.

Throughout the match, Spartans level up by scoring kills in succession. There are three tiers, meaning scoring your third kill in one life will boost you up to level three. Here’s the breakdown of each level:

Ninja Level 1

  • Shields recharge at a faster rate (2x)
  • Assassinations performed at a faster rate (2x)

Ninja Level 2

  • Shields recharge at a faster rate (2x)
  • Shields recharge sooner than normal (after 3 seconds)
  • Assassinations performed at a faster rate (3x)

Ninja Level 3

  • Shields recharge at a faster rate (2x)
  • Shields recharge sooner than normal (after 2 seconds)
  • Assassinations performed at a faster rate (4x)
  • Unlimited Thruster Pack energy

Ninja Assassins will be playable in Halo 4’s featured playlist until April 28. Be sure to check out the full details on Monday’s matchmaking updates over on Halo Waypoint.

Battlefield 4 – Game Breaking “Death Shield” Bug Blocks Projectiles With Invisible Hit Box

A newly discovered bug may be the cause of some of those inexplainable moments of frustration that you sometimes experience in Battlefield 4.

Ever fire a bullet, throw a grenade, or launch an RPG at an enemy only to experience a negative effect, despite a clear hit? As it turns out, that particular instance may be linked to a game breaking bug with Battlefield 4’s revive system.

As YouTube personality Jack Frag points out with a few fellow team members, it appears that the hit box of a downed but revivable soldier can actually continue to block projectiles, including even tank shells.

In Battlefield 4, there is a short period of time after a soldier dies that he or she is able to accept a revive from a fellow soldier equipped with defibrillators. Once the countdown period expires, a dead soldier will not be able to accept a revive any longer. Death from explosives, however, will kill a soldier outright with no chance for revival.

With this new discovery, it appears that projectiles fired from live soldiers will pass over a completely dead soldier without trouble, as it should be. But it’s a dead soldier waiting for a revive that seems to be causing the trouble if it happens to be in the way of your aim. It’s likely most noticeable on maps with narrow corridors like Operation Locker or Operation Métro.

You can catch the bug in action below for a better picture:

[youtube id=”0IRIbIMO0SY”]

Your expression right now is probably something like, “So, that’s why!” It appears that developer DICE has yet to acknowledge the bug as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted with updates.

UPDATE: According to DICE QA Lead, a fix for the bug is being looked into.

Have you ever experienced something like this in Battlefield 4?

Thanks, Rhys96, for the tip!

Titanfall Burn Cards In-Depth – Hidden Effects, Abilities, and Deck Management

As you know, there are a lot of Burn Cards in Titanfall, – 50, to be exact.

Each grants a different ability, three of which can be equipped to bring with you into any given match. Once activated, you will only benefit from a card’s ability for the duration of one life, meaning that it’s important to pick the right card at the right moment.

But with 50 cards to choose from, managing them all, learning what each one actually does, and figuring out when to use them can be a bit tricky, especially for the more casual player. That’s why YouTube personality belthazor3457 has put together a helpful video telling you everything you need to know about Burn Cards in Titanfall.

He describes it as “A guide to the effects (including unlisted effects such as reusability) of burn cards and general tips on their effective use + management of your deck.”

So, check it out and tell us if you learned anything new in the comments below!

Meet The Chinese Army of Battlefield 4 – All In-Game Voice Overs in One Video

Earlier this week, we heard the many voice-over dialogue lines for Battlefield 4’s Russian Army that you’ll often hear shouted throughout the game’s intense multiplayer matches.

This time, it’s the Chinese Army’s turn as we hear over 10 minutes of VO lines from the game specific to that faction.

No description is available in the video above, so we’re not exactly sure what they’re yelling, but it’s interesting to listen to nonetheless. But perhaps it’s best not to listen to the video too loud. We’re not sure what you’re neighbours will think.

Respawn Announces First Titanfall DLC, Expedition, “New Ideas” and Game Modes Incoming

During Respawn Entertainment’s PAX East panel, the studio announced Titanfall‘s first paid DLC, as well as some of the new free content coming to the game in the future.

Calling it “Expedition”, the paid add-on will included three new maps like “Swamplands”, featuring tall trees that players can wall run and jump off of, chaining runs and jumps from tree to tree. “Wargames” plays off the Training Simulator level, which the studio says looks very “Tron-y”. “Runoff” will round off the trio of new maps arriving this May.

BlDfaQuCAAAwx40

“In the wake of the Battle of Demeter, IMC Expeditionary Forces travel deep into Frontier space to recover from their recent defeat. On an uncharted world, the IMC begin construction of a new fleet operations base, using newly acquired water collection and filtration plants to support the new base. When drainage operations reveal ancient ruins and artifacts of an unknown origin in a nearby swamp, Spyglass activates an archaeological team to investigate the site. To maintain battle readiness at the new base, IMC Pilots use simulation pods to train for anticipated Militia raids, based on lessons learned in Angel City and IMC Airbase Sierra.”

As a part of more free updates, the studio is also working on new game modes. During the panel, Respawn mentioned a new version of Last Titan Standing called “Wingman”, turning it into a 2 vs. 2 game mode, highlighting more team-oriented gameplay.

A bunch of “new ideas” are also in the works for the game, including a system that uses hashtags to match like-minded gamers and easily allows them to game together. New Burn Cards are also in the works.

More customization and stat-tracking features will also be implemented in the future, allowing people to personalize their Titan further and engage in more competitive play.

Short term game mode alterations are also on the plate, meaning players can expect new weekly game mode tweaks, offering new experiences constantly. The most popular variants will stick around the longest, says Respawn.

You can pick up Expedition as a standalone add-on for $10 this May, or as a part of Titanfall’s $25 Season Pass.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! – Reveal Analysis And Speculation

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is arriving this Fall on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

It’s still a ways away, but for the attentive eye, Gearbox and 2K Australia have indirectly been hinting at some interesting information regarding the game throughout some of the various trailers and artwork that that we’ve seen so far.

Though 2K Australia and Gearbox held back on revealing anything about Nisha The Law Bringer, one of the four playable classes in Borderlands: TPS, some of the artwork for the upcoming title may lead us to a clue hinting at how she will actually play.

dLnJq7M

Yes. She dual wields weapons – more importantly, pistols. If that’s anything to go by, it looks like she will be a mix of both Mordecai and Salvador – being able dual wield and specialize in pistols. And as we saw in Borderlands 2, the Sheriff Badge artifact that she drops buffs the damage that pistols deal, as well as their firing speed.

Additionally, during the gameplay reveal trailer for Borderlands: TPS, 2K Australia revealed the majority of Athena’s Phalanx skill tree, which puts her under the ‘tank’ archetype. However, from the small glimpse shown of her other two skill trees, we see that Ceraunic Storm is a bit more focused on electric/shock damage, judging by the the icons, while Xiphos happens to be a double edged sword from ancient Greece and appears focus on melee damage, according to some of the icons spotted.

Not much is known about the actual story, aside it being a Handsome Jack origin story, revealing how he came to power. But there are a few hints spread throughout the artwork and gameplay reveals that suggest we will see Dahl as the main antagonist. Elpis, Pandora’s moon, seems to be filled with various Dahl structures and in one of the pieces of artwork for the game, we see a pair of Athenas battling a gigantic robot bearing the mark of a Dahl soldier and hostile personal, which is seen on Axton.

That brings me to this very interesting image of two creatures who closely resemble The Warrior, the Vault monster located in Pandora’s second Vault. It hints that there’s a possible Vault somewhere on Elpis and, if so, there’s a good chance they will be the main quest’s end boss.

Borderlands

Since Borderlands: TPS is filling the gap between Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2, there’s a possible chance that the Slag element won’t be returning, as Jack hasn’t quite discovered it yet. In Borderlands 2’s timeline, it’s relatively new, as Dr. Tannis tasks you with finding notes regarding the element and collecting samples of it for further study. So, it’s highly possible that the Ice element will act as this game’s de-buff mechanic, replacing Slag completely.

With Borderlands: TPS still months away, what features do you wish 2K Australia to bring back or add? Let us know below!

Bungie CM Highlights The Importance of Teamwork in Destiny, New Exo Screen

In Destiny, your Fireteam is your greatest weapon.

The key to success and victory lies within your ability to work with others, writes Destiny community manager “DeeJ” in the most recent Bungie Weekly Update. In it, he describes four gameplay principles to keep at the forefront of your mind while exploring Bungie’s brave new world in Destiny.

Every member of a Fireteam is important.

“Of all the firepower you’ll bring with you from the Tower, the Guardians by your side will be your finest weapons. I’ve seen heroes rescue each other from certain oblivion more times than I can count. There are no tourists in the world of Destiny. Every player of this game changes the action, be they hardcore or brand new to the triggers.”

The Fireteam that fights together thrives together.

“There is a difference between playing with someone and simply playing near them. When Fireteams work as a real team, they profit. Their abilities complement each other. Their bravery enhances each other. If you can stay close to your Fireteam, you’ll be pretty deadly when you find yourselves backed into the same corner.”

You must sometimes divide to conquer.

“While it makes sense to combine your forces, you won’t always want to stand right next to each other. Many of your opponents won’t go down with one shot – or even one reload. You’ll want to goad them into fighting a two-front war. Take turns drawing their fire while your ally delivers the pain. It’s like that old saying: Sometimes, teamwork is just giving them more people to shoot at.”

Even the lone wolf can strengthen the pack.

“Not everyone wants to keep the company of a Fireteam. If you’re that guy or gal, you’re welcome to keep to yourself. I’ve seen – but never met – enigmatic snipers camped on the ridge that overlooks a skirmish. Their well-placed shots have saved lives. Without so much as a wave, they’ve mounted up and sped off before we could so much as thank them.”

As a bit of a bonus, DeeJ also showed of a new screen of the Exo class sans helmet, revealing a “Robot Space Pimp” figure underneath, as the studio humorously likes to call it.

spacerobotpimp

Lastly, adding on to Bungie technical art lead Scott Shepherd’s GDC video presentation, DeeJ writes that “Scott stayed focused primarily on race, class, and gear, but there are many other avenues you’ll have in Destiny to alter the way you look. It will be very hard to run out of options for making your hero a unique snowflake.”

You’ll be able to customize your Guardian get your Fireteam in order this summer with the official Destiny beta on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

Penny Arcade Expo Announces New San Antonio, Texas Event, Coming January

So us Canadians here at MP1st have a warmer place to play and talk about exciting new video games during the cold Winter months, Penny Arcade Expo is announcing “PAX South” in San Antonio, Texas, coming early next year.

The event is scheduled to debut this January 23-25, 2015, and is the fourth PAX show – third to occur in the U.S. – joining locations like Seattle, Boston, and Melbourne, Australia. PAX East’s Boston event is currently underway as of this writing.

“The love of gaming in all its many forms, whether that be on a TV, a computer, a phone, or even a tabletop, is hitting an all-time high. PAX gives gaming fans one place to get a glimpse of emerging trends and does it in a truly fun and interactive way,” said Global Vice President of ReedPOP Lance Fensterman in a press release earlier today.

Robert Khoo, Penny Arcade President, added, “Since its launch in 2004, PAX events have doubled in size almost every year, and our Seattle and Boston events represent the two largest gaming festivals in North America. We’ve been hearing for years that those in the south had a tough time making it to the northern corners of the country; PAX South has always been a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if.'”

The Penny Arcade Expo is one of the world’s largest gaming festivals that connects leading video and tabletop game makers with fans from around the world. The show also highlights cultural aspects of gaming with panels, concerts, tournaments, and freeplay areas.
