Report – Is High Moon Porting Call of Duty 2014 to Xbox 360 and PS3?

Sledgehammer Games is the studio heading up this year’s Call of Duty.

As Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg noted earlier, this year’s development focus will shift to next-gen consoles and PC, making Call of Duty 2014 “a next-gen-first production” while “the current-gen game will be a version of that,” he said. Could this mean work on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be delegated to another studio?

Enter Activision studio High Moon, who is reported to be hiring for its new “high profile first person shooter” for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

“High Moon Studios, part of Activision Blizzard, is developing a high-profile, First Person Shooter for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,” the listing reads. “Based in Carlsbad, we offer a creative and challenging environment that fosters collaboration, mentorship and camaraderie. We’re dedicated to making successful high quality games, and we are looking for outstanding candidates to join our talented team.”

Another listing for Senior User Interface Engineer asks for proficiency in the Radiant Engine, a level editor heavily used in the development of Call of Duty games.

High Moon studios is known for their work on various Transformer games; War for Cybertron, Dark of the Moon, and Fall of Cyberton, as well as last year’s Deadpool.

However, the news might not mean that Sledgehammer won’t have any input on developing the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions whatsoever, as we have learned recently.

Recent rumors have suggested that Call of Duty 2014 might be a new entry in the Modern Warfare series.

Thanks, VideoGamer.

Titanfall ‘Will be a Great Experience on Xbox 360,’ Claims Microsoft

Yusuf Mehdi, Xbox Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Microsoft, shares his excitement for the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall at SXSW’s launch event yesterday.

“I think we struck the right balance — it was Respawn, really, and the developer who struck the balance — which is, it will play great on Xbox 360. Believe me, we are thrilled about it,” Yusuf Mehdi told Polygon.

“Xbox 360 is in, obviously, all the markets including the top 13 with Xbox One; we’re in 48-plus markets for [Xbox 360]. For many markets, that will be the game. So, we’ve worked together to have that be a first-class experience.

“At the same time, on Xbox One you can get some of those extra features that set it apart, and there will be people who want to do that, and there will be enough encouragement to go — but it will be a great experience on Xbox 360,” concluded Mehdi.

Titanfall for Xbox 360 is being developed by Bluepoint Games. The game was delayed last month, and it will release on March 25th in North America, March 28th in Europe.

DayZ Standalone Patch 0.37 – Bug Fixes, Physics For Vehicles, and More Survival Mechanics

DayZ is about to see a crucial update as the team behind the title plans on implementing better collision physics in the coming weeks.

The patch was originally planned to be released this Wednesday, however the developers of DayZ standalone took to their blog to state that patch 0.37 has been pushed back due to being unstable and having some new bugs that made players invisible.

Their main focus for the next few weeks is getting the patch stable along with implementing cooking and other survival combat mechanics.

The main beef of the patch though is fixing the network issues, collisions and their new physics system implementation, which is crucial when they implement vehicles later on in the Alpha.

There’s still a long ways to go with the Alpha, but things are beginning to take shape. Here are some details, as seen on the official blog:

Trying to get 0.37 to stable

Our main focus this week was to deploy a new version of the game to stable branch. We have two public “branches” of code, stable and experimental. A deployment to stable branch of the latest version of the game was scheduled for Wednesday, however we were not happy with some of the issues that remained.

Three major code changes have been occurring. We have been changing the way collision works to solve a number of bugs, such as shooting while prone colliding with the world and zombie collisions. Also our new physics system has been implemented, allowing us to have throwing, dragging, ragdoll, and even vehicles. In addition, a new guaranteed network message system has been developed to solve network issues, improve client/server performance, as well as reduce the “desync” issues experienced by many.

A number of bugs came out of these developments, two of which cause situations where players and zombies can become invisible to some clients. We want to solve this issue before we deploy to stable. You can try the current version out for yourself on experimental branch.

Survival Cooking

Progress continued with the development of several different kinds of fireplaces, and has moved onto creating assets for constructible ovens. These items will be persistent in the world, allowing the player to cook many things. The temperature system developed in the engine has been refined to have correct return from hot or cold to ambient temperature.

Survival Combat

A new area of work commenced this week is combat directly supporting survival. This includes throwing items, bows and arrows. We now have a great new animation for throwing, and the system developed for this will allow us to support proper animations for bows (e.g. drawing bow back, awaiting player input to fire).

PvZ: Garden Warfare DLC possibly Teased On In-game Billboard

Although PopCap already hinted that their upcoming DLC for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will be amazingly hilarious last week, it appears the latest update to the in-game billboard for Garden Warfare has giving us an official first look at what’s to come.

check out the image below:

DzjTfQb

Even though it’s hard to spot what’s new in the image above, the Zombot, Tall-nut, and Pea Shooter helmet models are different from the ones currently available in game. In fact, they appear to be upgraded versions, possibly hinting at what’s to come in the near future.

Furthermore, C-jo, the lead designer for Garden Warfare, has announced that the studio will continue to balance out the character classes in the future, depending on user feedback as they will be watching and evaluating everything as they plan to release more patches. In addition, the Garden Warfare team is also looking into adding Legacy and Legacy Southpaw control layout in the future.

Recently, Garden Warfare received a balance patch that buffed the All-Star class and the coins earned for completing a game, check out the notes here.

List of Turtle Beach Headsets Compatible With Xbox One, Astro Working on Adaptor “Crackle” Fix

With the launch of the Xbox One’s official headset adapter, a number of previous generation gaming headsets are once again fully functioning and able to provide chat capabilities.

Sadly, due to either physical or technical limitations, not every previous generation headset out there is fully compatible with the new adapter. That said, Turtle Beach has been kind enough to list every one of their headsets that will function properly with the Xbox One while using the new adapter. View the image below and feel free to visit the official page to get more info on their products.

Screen Shot 2014-03-10 at 4.39.21 PM

Of course, Astro headset users are also enjoying the benefits of fully functioning chat since the latest Xbox One controller update. However, reports have begun surfacing of a bug that causes crackling during in-game chat when using the Astro’s A50 headset.

For those affected, Astro forum moderator Mitchell has stated that the company has “found a workaround and will release a firmware update this week for both the A50 Wireless Headset and MixAmp Pro 2013 Edition which will stop the crackling from happening.”

Are you an Xbox One headset user? What is your weapon of choice?

Watch Dogs “Closed Beta” Appears On Xbox One Games Store

Reports have begun surfacing of Xbox One users spotting a Watch Dogs Closed Beta in the Games Store.

Two occurrences were recently screen captured, one from reddit user mouse2012 and the other from AbleToFail:

BUHfAQH

cPxqSoB

Upon clicking the application, mouse2012 says it just displays the message, “no clips to display”. According to the games store, the download is 23 GB.

It’s likely that an internal closed beta has somehow made its way to the Games Store on accident for a brief period of time. We were unable find it searching ourselves after hearing about the reports. Ubisoft has made no such announcement to date, but does the news hint at a Watch Dogs beta to come?

Perhaps we’ll hear something official soon as we approach Watch Dogs’ new May 27 release date.

Report – PlayStation Now Rental Costs Revealed

Gaikai, the company powering PlayStation Now, recently saw a website design overhaul.

With it came some brief details about the new game streaming service, but the thing that’s getting the most attention is that they may have accidentally leaked pricing.

PS_now

As you can see from the image above, game rentals may range between $5-$6 depending on the game. If you take a look at The Last of Us ($49.99), it appears that purchasing full games will be an option as well. The service is currently testing in closed Beta and set to launch later this year. It will feature a wide variety of titles and will include multiplayer for games that have it.

Thanks, VG24/7.

H-Hour: World’s Elite – Beta Info, New Videos And Screens

Today, SOF Studios released a brand-new video showcasing the grenade in H-Hour: World’s Elite, along with revealing many new details about the game’s Beta and how you can participate in it.

For those who missed the Kickstarter chance to get in the Beta, SOF Studio is giving gamers another chance through their official Donation page. You’ll have to register first to access that page, but once you do they will require you a somewhat hefty donation of $45 to participate in the Beta. Please note that this doesn’t include the full game, only Beta access.

The Beta will be available on both the PC and PlayStation 4, although it’ll launch on PC first since it’s the lead platform. The wait for the PS4 Beta won’t be very long, however, as the team plans on launching them as close as possible. The estimated launch window for the Beta is about 10 months after game development, with a projected 2015 first quarter as the release.

In the meantime, here are some new screens showing off the PNM Mines and Ragdoll effect along with a new Grande video.

Battlefield 4 Game Update Now Live on Xbox One, Includes Weapon and Vehicle Tweaks

Xbox One users are getting a hefty Battlefield 4 game update today.

Like the recent PC update, this 1.5 GB patch includes a number of fixes while increasing the level cap and introducing a number of grenade, weapon, pistol, and vehicle tweaks.

It also prepares the game for the upcoming Battlefield 4 Naval Strike expansion launching later this month. Check out the full patch notes below:

Battlefield 4 March 10 Xbox One Game Update Notes

  • Several crash fixes and stability improvements
  • Fixed an issue with data re-sending that was causing rubberbanding on some servers
  • Increased the maxium rank to 120
  • Fixed an issue with the kill camera triggering before game client would display the last portion of damage being dealt, giving players the impression that they died too early
  • Fixed issue with blood effects, damage indicators, and health bar updates in the HUD being out of sync. This issue meant that players would sometimes miss information about being shot at, or get the impression of too few hits occurring for the amount of bullets that hit.
  • Tweaked the speed, dispersion, and re-arm duration of the IFV and MBT projectiles
  • Tweaked timing for how long the killfeed stays on screen
  • Fixed an issue where the message “Joining Server” sometimes didn’t appear when the user tried to join the server
  • Added default player slots to server browser filters
  • Fix for an issue on Silk Road where players could deform the terrain to create a big, water-filled hole
  • Fix for a bug that occurred with the end-of-round camera if the player was in the bomber in China Rising
  • Fix for an issue on Rogue Transmission where it was impossible to capture a flag while riding the quad bike
  • Prevented players from interacting with an M-Com on Siege of Shanghai after it had been destroyed
  • Fixed an issue where audio for disarming M-Coms could get stuck in an infinite loop
  • Added minimap details for missing carriers in Rush on Paracel Storm and Hainan Resort
  • Fix for an exploit that would allow players to shoot two tank shells with not enough delay between shots
  • Removed a bug where squads would get split up when transitioning between Conquest and Air Superiority
  • Fixed an issue where Defuse could get stuck in an unplayable state between rounds
  • Removed a bug that would cause players to sometimes get stuck in the killcam after having been killed
  • Fixed an issue with revive icon not being greyed out in-game on map and minimap, when the player died after getting revived in Defuse
  • General improvements and bug fixes for the Battledash and Mission create screens
  • Fixed a bug where red laser dots would get stuck on textures
  • Zoom dispersion fix. When zooming in while firing the dispersion did not lower to the new max value
  • Fixed a bug where the enemy health always displayed as full in the kill-cam
  • Fixed an issue in Defuse so killed bomb carrier can’t plant a bomb in the next round without picking up a new bomb
  • The MAV has been updated to prevent players from exploiting it
  • Improved repair rates for vehicles with different base healths
  • Tweaked volume balance and other ambience parameters on the majority of base game and China Rising maps
  • Improved the track vehicles wheel friction so vehicles don’t get stuck at relatively minor hills
  • Fixed an issue with faulty zoom levels that occurred when using click to zoom in. While sprinting and zooming, will mess up the zoom levels, from hip to zoom.
  • Improved boat physics and handling, including implementation of a system that lets players push stuck boats back in the water

SPECTATOR MODE

  • Added a chat feature, allowing spectators to take part of the chat of the match they’re spectating
  • Fix for the EMP/Proxy Attack effects being visible in Spectator Mode
  • Removed the black screen that was visible when switching between cameras and players in Spectator Mode
  • Removed squad colors in Spectator Mode, now only the red and blue team colors are visible
  • Decreased the user interface clutter in Spectator Mode by removing health pack, ammo pack and revive icons
  • Tweaked the 1st person view in Spectator Mode so that spectators now see exactly what players see and nothing else
  • Added a functionality in Spectator Mode so that, when going into Freecam from 1st or 3rd person mode, the first static freecam will be moved to behind the previously spectated player
  • Added the possibility in Spectator Mode to ‘fire’ at a player from Freecam to go into 1st person view of that player
  • Spectators can now see which player on the scoreboard that carries the bomb in the Obliteration and Defuse game modes

GRENADE TWEAKS

  • Increased the number of M84 FLASHBANG and HAND FLARES the player can carry from 2 to 3.
  • Increased the effect of M84 FLASHBANG grenades on friendly and enemy players.
  • Increased the maximum damage for the RGO from 67 to 80, however reduced the range of explosion.
  • Reduced the visual and audio effect for the detonation of the V40 Mini to highlight its smaller blast when compared to other grenades. Decreased the maximum damage from 80 to 60, and decreased the range at which maximum damage is applied.

PISTOL TWEAKS

  • Increased the aimed accuracy of the M1911 to make it a viable choice once the COMPACT 45 has been unlocked.
  • Increased the close range damage of the M1911, QSZ-92, FN57, CZ-75 and COMPACT 45.
  • Reduced the delay between pressing the trigger and the bullet firing for the M412 REX and .44 MAGNUM.
  • Increased the magazine capacity of the QSZ-92 to 20 rounds. Additionally reduced the recoil of the QSZ-92 to give it a clear difference from the FN57.
  • Corrected a small error with the COMPACT 45 accuracy when crouched or prone.

WEAPON TWEAKS

  • Increased the accuracy of pump action shotguns (870 MCS, HAWK 12g, SPAS-12, and UTS 15) while on the move and aiming.
  • Reduced the long range damage of the MTAR to bring it in line with the rest of the Carbines.
  • Adjusted the way inaccuracy is handled when transitioning from Hip fire to Aimed fire.
  • The Heavy Barrel’s Accuracy bonus now also applies on the move, at a reduced bonus. This should give the Heavy Barrel a wider role for players who desire accuracy while aimed in all situations.
  • Synchronized the timing of the aim down the sights animation of sniper rifles with their ability to fire with full accuracy. Players no longer need to wait for additional time after the aiming animation plays to get accurate shots. There is still a delay to achieve full accuracy, so Quick Scoping is still not possible.
  • The SRS bolt action time has been tweaked and the rate of fire has been lowered
  • The GOL bolt action time has been tweaked
  • The muzzle velocity for the MP7 has been reduced
  • The MTAR21 muzzle velocity has been reduced
  • Updated the handling of the 1x scopes for Type95B1, A91, SteyrAug, SAR21, QBZ951, FAMAS, UTAS, MTAR, L85A2, and F2000
  • Updated rate of fire for the RGP7 and NLAW

VEHICLE TWEAKS

  • Reduced the total amount of missiles carried by the Mobile Anti-Aircraft vehicles from 6 to 4.
  • Reduced the velocity of the MAA’s default 20MM CANNON from 1200m/s to 800m/s to match the 30MM CANNON.
  • Reduced the physical impact of all Anti-Aircraft missiles to prevent helicopters from flipping uncontrollably when hit. The damage values have not been changed.
  • Reduced the cone in which ACTIVE RADAR missiles search for targets, making them require a higher level of skill in predicting where a target will be when the missile is fired.
  • Increased the direct damage done by the Attack Helicopter’s gunner cannon. The gunner will be better able to assist the pilot in taking down vehicle targets with this change.
  • Increased the direct hit damage of the Zuni Rockets for Attack Helicopters. The rate of fire of these rockets combined with their smaller magazine pool made them a poor choice over the other two rocket types.
  • Reduced the splash damage and maximum splash damage range of the Scout Helicopter 25MM CANNONS.
  • Reduced the “intelligence” of the MBT LAW missiles, requiring the player to aim the missile closer to their target before the smart projectile will activate. Additionally, the MBT LAW now reloads slightly slower. Finally, a bug where the MBT LAW would pass through an ACTIVE PROTECTION shield has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where ACTIVE PROTECTION and the MP-APS did not properly stop 12G FRAG rounds.
  • Reduced the range where the M2 SLAM will do maximum damage to vehicles from 6M to 3M. The range was deemed to be too large, making the M2 SLAM far superior to the M15 AT MINE.
  • Reduced the damage the STAFF shell does to all targets by 25%. This should balance the ease of use of the STAFF shell with its damage potential.
