Evolve Hunters – Meet The Assault Class

Learn about the Assault class in Turtle Rock’s next-gen FPS, Evolve.

Via GameInformer’s continuing coverage of the game, it is revealed that each class of Hunter will have a number of different characters to select from, each with their own specific loadouts, but with one universal skill shared between all characters.

As a Hunter, you and three others are tasked with hunting down – or surviving against – a lonesome but formidable monster opponent. Last time, we were introduced to the Goliath, one of several monster types.

Today’s introduction belongs to Markov, a member of the Assault class. Like any typical Assault-type character in most video games, Markov’s job is to take and deal damage. He’s armed with to large weapons; a lightning gun and an assault rifle, and has access to Arc Mines that can be used to herd monsters into position, close off routes, or even use their blasts to pinpoint enemy locations. Universal to all members of the Assault class the personal Shield which can be used in short bursts to deflect large amounts of damage.

According to GameInformer, the Assault class’ abilities are best used in conjunction with the abilities of other classes.

Check out Markov in these images below:

Pro Halo Player Joins 343 Industries In Prep For ‘Halo 5’

343 Industries picks up pro Halo competitor “GH057ayame” as they continue to expand their team in preparation for their next big Halo project.

Eric “GH057ayame” Hewitt, a former Halo pro who competed on Team Carbon, recently Tweeted an image of his flight to Seattle, WA, home of 343 Industries, where he would begin work on the team’s next Halo project, presumably ‘Halo 5’.

Bdu0ZOWIMAE5l9H

His Twitter bio was also update accordingly:

Ghost-343

Hewitt’s previous contributions to the Halo series include creating the settings for Halo 4’s official competitive playlist, Team Throwdown. In addition, he assisted with the Halo 4 Global Championship in Austin, Texas last July where he also worked on rules and settings and contributed to general organization and shoutcasting matches.

Late last year, Halo pros “Dersky” and “Neighbour” were also hired at 343 Industries.

They might sound like a small additions to the 343 team at first glance, but it should come as good news to the more competitive-minded fans of the series. Some might also find it comforting to know highly influential individuals who have years of professional play time under their belts are contributing to production on the next Halo game, due out later this year.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC – IW Teases “Something Menacing” Coming January 28

Call of Duty: Ghosts developers Infinity Ward tease “something menacing” coming later this month, January 28.

The mysterious Instagram video in question refers to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ first downloadable add-on content, Onslaught, that was reported earlier to introduce four new multiplayer maps, a new weapon for use in multiplayer, and a new episode of Extinction.

“Something menacing is coming Jan. 28. Get ready for the #Onslaught,” writes Infinity Ward. The video, which you can check out in the featured section above, features our protagonist wielding an axe, walking through a mist-covered forest, and set to music that the studio hinted on Twitter might be familiar to some.

At first glance, you might think the scene is a peek at things to come in Onslaught’s new Extinction episode, Nightfall, but readers familiar with the “Mike Myers” game mode are saying otherwise and that it could be a new game mode on the DLC map, Fog.

Might be a little too early to tell, but what do you think? Check out the teaser and leave your thoughts in the comments below. Also, keep your eyes open, for we anticipate a full on Onslaught trailer in the coming week.

Infinity Ward continues to tease Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Onslaught DLC with a new Extinction Episode 1: Nightfall image featuring a brand new enemy type:

Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Map Inspired By Modern Warfare 2’s Scrapyard?

Yesterday, we got our first unofficial look at Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ first piece of DLC via a leaked promotional poster listing the add-on and all of its content, also putting it at a January 28 release date.

Along with a new episode of Extinction, as well as a new weapon (or two), the poster revealed four new multiplayer maps; Fog, Bay View, Containment, and Ignition. You can catch all the details we know so far and check out the poster for yourself right here.

Interestingly, and thanks to the sharp eye of Reddit user “YeahMann“, we learned that one of the new maps in particular, Ignition, bears a striking resemblance to the fan-favorite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map, Scrapyard.

Clearly, it’s impossible to tell with 100% certainty from one blurry image alone, but the comparison is intriguing nonetheless. Check it out below:

aTacAKZ

In addition to the similar layout, you’ll notice that even the warehouse numbers on the left are placed in identical locations. Again, it’s hard to tell without access to a complete overview of Ignition, but from what we have to work with, we might have just have a match.

Being one of the Modern Warfare series’ most popular maps, it wouldn’t be completely surprising to see developers Infinity Ward release a DLC map inspired by Scrapyard in Call of Duty: Ghosts. While the studio hasn’t been known to “re-skin” or “re-imagine” older maps in the past, there have been instances of re-released replicas of older maps, albeit visually updated, in Modern Warfare 2 and then once more in Modern Warfare 3.

However, the suspicious similarity between Ghosts’ Strike Zone and Modern Warfare 3’s Dome might indicate that the studio is making an effort to avoid cut-and-paste jobs, and is instead focusing on delivering new, yet familiar maps inspired by fan-favorite classics.

What do you guys think? Do you think that’s the case here? How would feel about about a new DLC map inspired by Modern Warfare 2’s Scrapyard? Let us know!

Sony Working With EA To Solve Battlefield 4 Network Issues

Distraught PlayStation users who have reported instances of “lagging” or “rubber-banding” whilst playing Battlefield 4’s Conquest Large game mode can take comfort in knowing issues like these go “higher above Battlefield 4”.

According to a recent interview, console manufacturers aren’t afraid to get involved in dilemmas affecting specific video game publishers like EA and games like Battlefield 4.

CVG, who recently spoke to SCEA’s marketing VP John Koller, brought up Battlefield 4’s troubled launch, asking what a major electronics company like Sony, who launched their PlayStation 4 next-gen gaming platform only two months ago, thinks of the situation.

“Let me answer this higher above Battlefield 4 because it’s not fair, I think, to focus just on that, Koller answered. “But in general, when these kinds of situations occur we work very closely with the publisher.”

“I’m not saying that’s happening specifically with Battlefield but in general when there’s network issues or any issues related to gameplay we work very closely, because it reflects on the platform as well. We want it solved just like the publisher wants it solved so we generally work together.”

Back from the holidays, DICE developers are hard at work putting together a few more fixes for Battlefield 4, including an update that is said to launch by the end of this month.

Titanfall is “Built To Be Six On Six”, But Supports Nearly 50 Combatants At Once

Though recent confirmation of Titanfall‘s player count on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One caused quite a stir in the first-person shooter community, developers Respawn Entertainment are certain its the right decision.

“It’s been this number for months,” Titanfall lead designer Justin Hendry recently told Polygon in an interview, speaking on the subject of the game’s six vs. six human player count limit. “We are pretty avid players in the studio. People speak their minds and we listen and make changes. This is the number that felt best.”

Recalling countless play tests of the sci-fi shooter, ranging from teams of two to twelve players per side, Hendry explains that the studio eventually came to realize “the game is essentially built to be six on six.”

That doesn’t mean Titanfall is any shorter on action than shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield are. In fact, developers had to keep the player count tame in order to avoid overloading players with the game’s chaotic combat design.

“The higher the player count, the more uncomfortable the game gets,” Hendry said. “Unlike in most games where you can sit there and guard the two ways in, in Titanfall the guy can come in through the window right behind you, he can come from the window to your left, he can come from straight ahead, he can come in from the stairway and he can come in from the doorway, or whatever. Essentially there are five directions you can get killed from and the higher that player count, the more likely you are to get killed from behind and the more difficult it is to kind of manage your surroundings.”

Keep in mind that on top of six players per side are an additional six AI-controlled soldiers on each team who can also call in their very own Titans. That’s a potential grand total of 48 combatants on the field at once.

After some hands-on time with the title, Polygon editor Bian Crecente writes that AI-controlled allies and opponents in Titanfall are “meant to serve several different functions. On one level, the AI characters are there as fodder for players who simply aren’t good enough to kill other player-controlled characters. They also serve as an easier way to load up on the experience needed to call in a Titan. And they’re meant to provide a sort of backstory and narrative to a game lacking any sort of single-player element.”

Ultimately, it gives casual players and newcomers a chance to contribute to a win more easily while the pros are off learning the ins and outs of Titanfall‘s hectic combat design.

“When people start playing Titanfall like Titanfall, the player count becomes a non-issue,” Hendry says.

In the end, “it just comes back to what makes the game fun. If you’re making a game and you’re making decisions that’s not based on fun because you’re trying to please someone or trying to match numbers, you’re not doing the right thing.”

Titanfall launches on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC March 11.

343 Industries Teases “Halo 5” Concept Art Hinting at Game’s Setting

Developers 343 Industries tease what’s in store for Halo fans this year with new concept art hinting at the studio’s next big project.

“2014 is here and much is afoot in the Halo universe,” writes former creative director Josh Holmes in a recent HaloWaypoint blog entry. “This past year has been a time of great transition at 343 as we’ve moved our engine and team from Xbox 360 to Xbox One and begun building the next chapter in the Halo saga. We’re proud of what we accomplished with our first release in Halo 4 and now we’re focused on something much more transformative as we make the leap to the next generation of Xbox.”

The post goes on to recap a few of the personnel changes made within the studio over the past year, including the addition of new creative director Tim Longo who worked on games like Tomb Raider, Star Wars: Republic Commando and most recently, the unreleased FPS, Star Wars: First Assault. A few words were also said by former Art Director, Kenneth Scott, who recently left the studio.

To wrap things up, Holmes teased a brand new image of the 343’s upcoming, untitled Halo project, saying, “I will leave you with this image from Sparth – an early exploration of a new location that features prominently in a little game project we’re tinkering with…. ”
