Call of Duty: Black Ops II Multiplayer “Nitty-Gritty” Questions Answered

Black Ops II is fast-approaching, and with Gamescom behind us, the community are asking the important questions that could make or break the series. But it isn’t necessarily just generic questions about details we already know; ‘Pick-10’, Pointstreaks, Livestreaming and StarCraft-like competitive MLG matches have all been fully explained.

But what about those little ‘other’ questions? You know, the really important things like Deathstreaks, how Pointstreaks are calculated, how weapon X performs over Y, and so on and so forth. Over at OneOfSwords‘ (Dan Amrich) – the Activision PR/Social Media Manager – webpage, Treyarch Lead Game Designer David Vonderhaar answered some interesting questions on his weekly podcast. You can listen to the full podcast here.

A little note at this point, the game is in “final development stage” – that is, it’s being pulled together and tinkered before release. Many things could change by the time the game releases on November 13. You can read the full article here.

No Deathstreaks or Final/Last Stand Perk

There’s no Second Chance; there’s no Last Stand, there’s no Final Stand. There’s no combination whatsoever of perk or deathstreak that puts the guy in the “downed” state in multiplayer. It’s not in multiplayer — there is no perk and there are no deathstreaks.

The infamous Perk and Deathstreak has finally been ousted after five Call of Duty games, with Black Ops II making the first ever main series game to not have Last Stand, Second Chance or whatever you want to call it. I repeat, there is no Last Stand, period.

Zombies, and presumably during any campaign story missions, will still use the ability to be downed but not killed with a weapon in hand. The perk/deathstreak, having received so much criticism since its inclusion in Call of Duty 4, has finally been killed off with Vonderhaar tongue-in-cheek referencing to his decision to keep the perk in Black Ops multiplayer and the constant barrage of messages he gets, by saying “please stop yelling at me.”

Deathstreaks have been thrown out the window, again, after being re-introduced in Modern Warfare 3 by Infinity Ward despite not making an appearance in the first Black Ops game.

Pointstreak Awards Loop-Around

Let me tell you where this is right now, and it’s something we are pretty happy with at this point. It does wrap around, but you can’t earn more than one of a type.

Like in Modern Warfare 3, rewards gained by playing the objectives or killing – gaining points for your streak – will not stop after you attain your highest level reward; they will “wrap around” and reset back to 0. In previous games before Modern Warfare 3, streaks would stop after you managed to get your highest killstreak so it wouldn’t ‘reset’ the streak, it would instead just stop counting actions and never reset until you died. David structured an easy example:

Let’s say you took UAV and Counter UAV. If you earned the UAV then earned the Counter UAV, you’re going to start building again for the UAV [all in one life].

But there is a catch. And, again, like in Modern Warfare 3 the streaks do not stack on top of each other. You could have earned that UAV and you’re about to earn another without calling in your first one, but you won’t get two to use. If you earn a second UAV, it still only counts as if you only earned one; you will always only have the single reward no matter come many times you earned it – so if you want multiple things, call them in before earning them again!

55 Levels = 55 Unlock Tokens; “Over 100 Pieces of Unlocks”

When you start at level 1, you will start leveling up and you will get to level 4. You will unlock create-a-class and you will have four unlock tokens, one for each level. You will then have a range of things you can spend those unlock tokens on — but not everything. So along the way, you’ve been deciding how to spend those tokens on content that’s been level-gated [unlocked at certain levels].

The relatively simple system that is unlocking and acquiring weapons and class items. You get an unlock token for every level you surpass. These ‘tokens’ can be used to unlock what you saw in the Gamescom footages, from Wildcards to Perks and Pointstreaks to Weapons – but all still follow the traditional Call of Duty “rank up to unlock” before you are able to use a token to get them.

There is more of an incentive to Prestige, because for completionists out there you will not be able to unlock everything without having to Prestige. But David Vonderhaar also mentions, which is still being tinkered, that you can ‘hold’ onto an unlock through all Prestiges – like the Prestige Token system in MW3. He says they are in the process of “making sure Prestige feels just as good.”

Aggressive/Objective Players Rewarded More; Scoring System Explained

There are definitely events, particularly in objective-based game modes, where you are going to get more score for being on the aggressive side.

Treyarch have emphasised that they want to reward players who play the objective or otherwise are aggressive in game modes more than those who hang back. You will get more points for capping flags in Capture the Flag than killing enemies. Same goes for all other game modes; slayers will still get points per kill, but objective players will get more.

These are the values that we change a lot; we’ve changed them about three times since we got out of Gamescom already, and we’re going to keep changing them until we’re satisfied.

The Scoring system is still being hotly debated, related to how one is awarded with X amount of points. They argue that yes you will still be rewarded a certain amount for killing, but how much? Should the score be the same across all game modes or be different to further emphasise that objectives are more important? Vonderhaar explains that “we’re still working through that.”

Custom Emblems Returning and Major Improvements

There’s a lot more granularity and control over the colors. There are a lot more layers you can use. You can cut and copy an image from one layer into any layer in the stream — that helps create those illusion-style images that people like to do.

Custom Emblems are set to make a reappearance for all artistic players out there. He also reveals that Treyarch will announce more details at the end of September.

Other Details

End-of-game Scoreboards will be detailed, like Black Ops I

Showing detailed stats determined on what game mode you played, e.g. domination flag captures, bombs planted/defused, etc.

No Pick-10 combination? Knife-only!

By not choosing any 10 combinations (which includes weapons), you will get a knife by default no matter what. Treyarch experimented with “hands and fists” but looked “very unusual”.

MW3 Killing Enemy “Revenge Voice” Reaction feature returns

Vonderhaar revealed that public games will have this feature – when you kill someone and you can hear their reaction – turned on automatically, toggle on or off in private/competitive matches. David Vonderhaar “loves” this feature.

Covered in Podcast

Perk Balance

On the subject of Perk Balance, a very controversial area of every Call of Duty, David Vonderhaar assures us that every perk can be tuned far more easier than before. The perk ‘Awareness’ helps you hear movement noise (mantling, gear rattling, footsteps on types of ground – which is variable, etc etc) and the perk ‘Dead Silence’ takes the big noises (like footsteps) and reduces it but “doesn’t remove everything.” He further clarifies that it is “not a flat cancel [or, full counter], it’s a partial cancel”. Still a lot of tweaking is required with these two perks, David reassures.

Having Flak Jacket on, not constituting as a full counter, doesn’t mean you won’t die to explosive damage.

Infinite Sprinting

No MW2-style Marathon perk “at the moment” Vonderhaar says, perhaps not completely ruling it out – Extreme Conditioning is not currently infinite sprint, rather like COD4 and MW3 Extreme Conditioning. But he goes onto say that they “probably won’t change it to be honest” and, from a technical view point, found many issues regarding sprinting infinitely like “wrecking havoc” with the spawning system.

Final Killcam System and Improvements

Vonderhaar explains how they are “reviewing an upgrade so that the Final Killcam [Game Ending Killcam] is from the winning team, not necessarily the final kill” and also answers a question about showing the final kill if that someone leaves the game prematurely, which in previous games doesn’t show the Killcam: “certain circumstances it might not show it, but we are looking into any issues.” The Killcam should still show even if the player “ejects his disc.”

High Killstreak? Get a Medal!

If you are on a high kill streak, as in killing a lot of people without dying, you will get ‘Medals’. David doesn’t clarify further how these will affect anything else like XP gained or receiving anything special but presumably you’ll get medals for capturing objectives consistently.

No Selling Back Gear

Treyarch experimented with selling back weapons, attachments and class items in the first Black Ops. It was scrapped before the game released, and Dan Amrich asked a similar question if you bought something with a token in this game, could you sell it back later? While they looked into this, they decided that this “wasn’t necessary” because you have many opportunities in Black Ops II to get to play around with many combinations (league games or custom matches).

CODCasting Camera Support; PS3 uses Eye camera, Xbox LIVE Vision

They are still working out what cameras will be able to support picture-in-picture CODCasting; USB cameras like the Xbox LIVE Vision and PLAYSTATION Eye will work for broadcasting face cam. They discuss the Xbox Kinect and how many people will have one positioned on their TV, but David Vonderhaar doesn’t confirm if Kinect will be supported, citing that it’s a “motion camera” and are not sure if they can make it work for their system.

Livestreaming “working” on 360, PS3; PC system undecided

David Vonderhaar confirms that the Xbox 360 version of Livestreaming/CODCasting is working very well, as is the PS3 version. However, he says that because PC gamers have a vast array of programs that could possibly deliver better livestreaming performance than what they are offering but are “looking into it.”

You can check out all of our coverage and content on Black Ops II, by clicking here.

Lots of juicy questions answered and/or clarified further. Are you guys more excited with the knowledge that certain things have been answered? What questions would you like answered by David Vonderhaar and/or Treyarch?

Need For Speed: Most Wanted – “Find It, Drive It” Gameplay Video

If you can find it, you can drive it.

The words from Crtierion Games executive producer Matt Webster about the upcoming high-octane Burnout meets Need For Speed game. Need For Speed: Most Wanted will “revolutionize” the action-racing genre and perhaps even shift the NFS series back into the limelight.

Everyone Loves Gameplay Videos!

Following up from my previous article, which you can read here, describing the many new and improved features which Criterion Games are implementing to take the racing series in a fresh, and somewhat controversial, direction. Autolog 2.0, CloudCompete, fun and challenging online multiplayer, cops ‘n’ robbers style action, and so much more.

The footage that follows – which is technically single player but has Autolog 2.0 implemented to detail friends’ stats – was one of gameplay footages that they showcased at Gamescom a few weeks ago and was uploaded to the Need For Speed YouTube channel recently.

The segment represents the sleek transition from car-to-car ‘jacking’ and commencing a race, Autolog 2.0 tracking every movement, different actions (such as taking down players, drifting around bends) adding to your SpeedPoints, the race ends but you don’t automatically escape the cops, and of course the stunning graphics and beautiful cars – with the Aston Martin V12 Vantage and Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG being driven, along with a Ford GT seen sitting idle during the cop chase.

[youtube id=”6LrwhDtkw-0″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

In this writers opinion, the more and more footage I see of this game the more and more I want to play it!

Need For Speed: Most Wanted skids onto PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 30 for US and November 1 for EU regions. Did you like the footage shown, is it really exciting you? Or do you appreciate the Underground-style Need For Speed games? Share you thoughts and comments below!

Steam Releases a Free-to-Play Version of Gotham City Impostors

A few days ago, Steam had some new registries added, one of which was for Gotham City Impostors. Many speculated that the game would be going free-to-play, considering that a file was titled “Gotham City Impostors F2P Trailer” and just as such, the speculations were indeed true.

Many steam users awoke today (and somewhat angry) to find that Gotham City Impostors F2P was downloaded and installed into their Steam Library. The game is playable and is free-to-play as reported, though for some, the game can’t be removed from their libary, an issue which is being resolved.

The logo has been slightly modified to include the wording “Free to Play”

Here are some details about the game, as listed on the official page.

Hatched from the twisted minds at Monolith Productions, Gotham City Impostors is a download-only multiplayer FPS that pits violent vigilantes dressed up like Batman against craven criminals dressed up like the Joker in open warfare on the streets of Gotham City.

About The Game

Hatched from the twisted minds at Monolith Productions, Gotham City Impostors is a download-only multiplayer FPS that pits violent vigilantes dressed up like Batman against craven criminals dressed up like the Joker in open warfare on the streets of Gotham City.

Key Features

  • Why fight crime when you can kill it… Gotham City has gone insane! Batman is up to his pointy ears in unwanted “helpers” determined to dish out their own bloodthirsty brand of vigilante justice in his name (and image). Meanwhile, a small army of self-appointed junior Jokerz has turned the streets of Gotham into a barmy battlefield of bullets, bodies, and bear traps.
  • More customization than you can shake a shotgun at… Packing more customization than you can shake a shotgun at, you get to choose the guns, gadgets and even the hairdos that fit your personality and play style. It doesn’t matter if you want to be a mighty muscleman on roller skates with a hunting bow or a lithe lassie packing a homebrew rocket launcher and glider wings, Gotham City Impostors does not have rigid character classes and lets you play the way you want.
  • 1000 levels of player advancement overflowing with upgrades and unlocks… A robust level up system lets you unlock all the items required to make your impostor as crazy as you desire. Whether you prefer to develop your impostor by proving your prowess in solo challenges designed to test your skills and reflexes or by battling your way to the top of the scoreboard in several delightfully over-the-top multiplayer modes, there’s a surefire way for you to realize your preposterous potential!

Screens

We do expect a trailer to arrive real soon, at which point I will update this post.

So how do you guys feel about Gotham City Impostors going F2P? It’s definitely worth a look if you haven’t tried it out yet, even though it doesn’t look that great graphically, the gameplay however may be a bit surprising.

Thanks Dieger for posting the tip on four Forums.

Update

The game is only free on PC. If your a PS+ on PS3 it is free then, otherwise you’ll have to buy it on all other platforms. Check out the gameplay trailer below!

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill Alborz Mountain Flythrough Video, Best Looking Map Yet

DICE Senior Environment Artist, Andrew Hamilton gives BF3 players a look at the hard work that he has done for the upcoming Armored Kill Map, Alborz Mountains.

[youtube id=”mHBJXq9kano” width=”600″ height=”350″]

With Armored Kill having a strong focus on the environment, we wanted to truly hand craft each and every square inch of their kilometres of natural landscape for players to explore, which was no easy feat. While we created convincing and believable environments on all four levels through thoughtful placement of natural elements – understanding how mountains are formed, where water flows down their surfaces carrying sediment and deposits at their base – we didn’t want it to all simply feel like window dressing. We want players to feel immersed in these environments. We set out to achieve this through a combined effort of art, audio and effects.

He said in his latest post,

I for one have been eager to release some truly large maps, so being able to really push what we are capable of sprinkling across such large expanses has been a fun challenge, not only in terms of density and detail of the environment, but also its believability and uniqueness.

Some of the key things when creating the maps of Armored Kill included:

  • Push the quality from up close macro details right out to far distant mountains.
  • Make the levels feel even more expansive and immerse players in a living world.
  • Tune the terrain creation process to further utilise its unique features.

You’ll be able to read the full blog post about how they approached these maps here.

Are you excited to wreak havoc on the snow-covered Alborz Mountain?

As of today, the good folks over at 2K Games and Gearbox Software have just announced that their highly anticipated sequel Borderlands 2 will offer a season content pass priced at $30.

The Borderlands 2 Season Pass is set to include four brand new add-on content campaigns following it’s release this upcoming September for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. These are set to feature hours upon hours of more Pandorian bandit slaying, new adventures, allies, enemies, environments and of course loot hunting, on an already massively long game.

If you don’t want to jump the gun yet and rather buy each DLC add-on separately, in case if you have doubts and don’t want to be faced with buyers remorse from getting the Season Pass without more information on what’s exactly is going to be included in them, fear not. Each DLC add-on for Borderlands 2 will be priced at $9.99 (PlayStation Network/PC) or 800 Microsoft points (Xbox). But if you do decide to buy it, you will also be saving a cool $9.99 from the upcoming DLC add-ons.

Don’t forget that Borderlands will also be free to PSN+ subscribers next week, so if you haven’t checked the game out yet, next week will be a good time to do so.

Borderlands 2 is set to release on September 18th in the North America region and internationally on September 21st.

Aliens: Colonial Marines – Escape Trailer Analysis, Xeno Classes and Female Character Spotted?

Today, a brand new multiplayer trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines was released.

In this trailer we get a good look at what classes were for the Xenomorphs (The Aliens) along with how they hunt their prey down in this 4 vs. 4 mode. Here’s a short analysis of the trailer which details the classes along with spotting a few things you may have missed.

The mode is called “Escape” and it will be a 4 vs. 4, Marines vs. Aliens mode. The goal is to escape (marines) or to hunt your prey down (Aliens). Both sides are playable, meaning that this isn’t some sort of co-op horde mode. Here’s the trailer to accompany the short analysis.

Thanks, Gamespot.

[youtube id=”2TfBP-NxjV4″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

The Xenomorph Classes

Soldier

  • Damage Resistance
  • Close Combat

Lurker

  • Fastest in agility and speed
  • Ambusher: quick strike capability
  • Able to pin marine to the ground

Spitter

  • Cranial Acid Pouches;
  • Long Range Acid capability
  • Able to Attack Marines By Spitting Acid

Is That A Girl?

The one thing however that truly spotted to me was that this trailer actually may have featured a female character.

Why is this so important? Well a few months back GearBox told the community that Aliens: Colonial would not feature any female characters in the Multiplayer mode. This announcement upset any Aliens fans seeing that the franchise was build heavily on strong female roles. I’m no 100% sure if that’s a female character, but by the look of that image it does look like that.

Some other things you may have missed from the trailer.

Turrets

This has already been confirmed for a while, but yes the game will feature an engineer class so that you may place down turrets for further defense against the Xenomorphs.

Your Scanner

The infamous scanner makes a return.

Defend the player

GearBox is truly trying to make this as survival base as possible. In this shot you can see a player cutting down a door. In the trailer he says “I need 30 seconds” which is an indication that players will need to defend each other as the Xenomorph tries to prevent them from escaping.

Aliens Targeting System

It is never explained in the movies of how a blind creature is able to hunt so well. In this screenshot we are given an idea of how exactly they can see their prey.

Vehicles?

I’m a bit iffy on this one as it does look like it has wheels, however the details and coloring all looks incomplete which may indicate that it’s just a falling structure. You can see it moving in with a swift turn so for now we will just say it’s a falling structure.

Aliens Colonial is set to release February 12th, 2013 for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and possible for the Wii U.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Multiplayer Receives a New Balancing Patch

Today, High Moon Studio released a brand new patch for their Transformers title, Fall of Cybertron.

This patch addresses some of the classe’s weapons, abilities, and upgrade values found in the multiplayer portion of FoC.

Patch Notes

Infiltrator

  • Scatterblaster damage increased to 15 per pellet from 12 – Those who got early access to the demo know the scatter blaster started off as a beastly weapon, we overshot our correction and we’re hopeful we’ve found the right setting.
  • Fireblast upgrade burn damage increased from 15 per second to 20 per second – The reduction in pellet damage was not being offset enough by the fire damage, so we’ve upped the fire damage a bit, each shot will do an extra 10 fire damage.
  • EMP Intercooler upgrade now changes the grenade recharge to 10 seconds instead of 7.5 – We know its super fun to run around throwing emp grenades willy-nilly, but it was too much.  Besides, you can get the Intercooler pickup and still go crazy.

Scientist

  • Gear Shredder homing increased – This weapon is showing up as the weakest of the scientist weapons and we think the best way to improve it is to increase its homing function.
  • Sentry Damage increased from 8 to 10 per shot – The sentry was not quite giving the offensive boost we were hoping for, this should help.

Destroyer

  • Reduce the Thermo Rocket Cannon damage from 300 to 250 – The Destroyer was showing up as the most powerful class by a small margin and we think the Thermo Rocket Cannon is a big reason.
  • Chaos Rift Combuster Damage and Damage Radius significantly increased – You should be doing closer to 300 damage if you manage to hit a guy with both the initial blast and a cluster bomb. Hopefully this make the Combuster a better option.
  • Barrier Cooldown increased from 7 to 10 seconds – 7 was too fast, it was practically always available

Titan

  • Harvester damage reduced from 20 to 17 – This combination of damage output and healing was too much, we’re preserving the healing functionality and reducing damage.
  • EDK Techvolt damage increased to 140 from 115 – The beams look cool, but it needed a little more bite.
  • Flak Shield can absorb 500 damage instead of 666 – The flak shield was showing up as clearly being a better choice than whirlwind so we’re slightly reducing its power.

Is Paying to Get DLC Early Worth the Cost?

I know I’ve beaten the premium content subscriptions debate to death already, but this is an aspect of them that I haven’t really talked at all about yet.

A lot of people don’t understand why getting DLC a week or two weeks earlier than everyone else is worth the cost (Premium Content Subscriptions). To a competitive player, getting DLC early gives them a huge in game advantage.  In fact, for someone that does MLG games, that’s an advantage worth paying.

Knowing the maps in CoD or BF3 will inherently increase your success on the battlefield.  Map knowledge is one of the major differences between good players and bad players.  Being able to know a map before anyone else gets it ensures that you’re going to do better than they are, or at least know where to look for kills.

Try picking up BF:BC2 or WaW and you’ll see what I mean.  In fact, go play Terminal on MW3.  I guarantee that if you didn’t play MW2, you are always going to do a little worse than you normally do on Terminal.  Why?  Because the people that did play MW2 know that map better than you.  They know where you’re going to spawn, they know how you’re going to get from one spot on the map to the other, and they know where to be to making killing you easy.

So, am I willing to pay upfront just to get something like new maps early?  Well, no.  I’m good enough and have the experince to do well in CoD, regardless of whether I know the maps well or not.  What draws me into premium content services is the exclusive content.  Don’t get me wrong, I love getting DLC early and knowing the maps before everyone else can figure them out, and so does my K/D, but there’s nothing quite like stabbing someone with the ACB-90 and having camo that everyone knows I paid to play with.  If that makes me a sucker, so be it.  I’ll still be getting Armored kill 2 weeks before a lot of people and have my new tanks fully leveled up before you even get a chance to play, and I’ll look cooler than you when I stab you in the throat with my flashy orange knife, take your dog tags, and teabag your body with my exclusive camo pants.

That said, I’m never going to pay for something I don’t want.  In this article I talked more about that, but in summary, MW3 and it’s subsequent DLC were a big letdown, so I didn’t buy into ELITE Premium.  Always wait and actually play the game before you spend more money on it.  Generally speaking, something that’s exclusive isn’t going to be in 6-8 months and unless you really like the game, there isn’t much benefit aside from a price reduction and the aforementioned bonuses to premium content services, yet anyway.  If ELITE and Battlelog take over Gamebattles/MLG and the system they put in place doesn’t suck, I’d consider it a bonus, sad though it might be to see yet another business eaten and destroyed by the gaming industry.

Anyway, good luck on the battlefield when you get here, I’ll make sure the AA guns are nice and warmed up before you arrive!

Thank you for reading, and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments!  Do you think ELITE 2.0/BO2 is going to change my mind on buying ELITE Premium?

Official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Hardened and Prestige Edition Details

Get a load of these monstrous editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 which you’ll be able to get your hands on this November 13th.

Along with the regular edition of Black Ops 2, gamers will also have the choice of purchasing the slick-looking Hardened Edition, or opt to call in their very own care package with the Prestige Edition. A price tag for either has yet to be revealed by Activision, but we’ll make sure to update as soon as we find out.

For now, check out what these two editions come packed with below.

Update 3

Treyarch senior designer David Vonderhaar responds to lack of ELITE Premium subscriptions included in the Black Ops 2 special editions, hopefully easing worried customers.

I understand the feedback. It won’t make sense to you until we start talking about Elite. I’ve asked when that will be.

Update 2

Official Pricing as seen on GameStop.

  • Call of Duty: Hardened Edition – $79.99 USD
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Care Package – $179.99 USD

Update 1

Treyarch and Activision present this minute long video showing off the Care Package (Prestige) Edition.

[youtube id=”0WmtGCwEv-k” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Treyarch writes, “Available exclusively in the Care Package, the remote-controlled MQ-27 Dragonfire Drone is a fully-functional quadrotor. Soar over your friends like the drones in-game, as you command the technology of 2025 right in the palm of your hands.

The Care Package comes in a reward crate packaging modeled faithfully after its likeness in Multiplayer. Combined with the bonuses found within, it is an absolute must-have for any hardcore Call of Duty fan.

As in previous years, these collector’s editions will be available in limited quantities only and are sure to sell out quickly. Pre-order your copy now!

Hardened Edition

  • Bonus In-Game Content: Nuketown Zombies & Nuketown 2025
  • Exclusive Xbox Live CLAW Avatar Prop & Zombies Avatar Costume

An ELITE (2.0) subscription doesn’t seem to be included in any of these editions. However, details of ELITE’s integration into Black Ops 2 has been scarce thus far. We’ll need to await further info regarding what Activision has in store for ELITE users.

What do you think of these two Black ops 2 Editions? Will you be picking either on up this November 13th?

Report – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale: Activision Hints Crash Bandicoot

It seems that Crash may be making a splash (sorry) in the upcoming PlayStation brawler, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

In a recent Twitter conversation (now removed) including the Activision Twitter handle, a user tweeted his hopes that Crash Bandicoot might make it into the game. Activision responded as follows:

Perhaps we’ll have to wait until PAX Prime starts this weekend for an announcement.

In fact, Crash Bandicoot will be having his anniversary on the same day PAX begins. This may lead to a reveal of an HD collection of the Crash series along with him joining the All-Star lineup

Thanks Neogaf.
