GTA 6 Won’t Use Generative AI; Take-Two Confirms Physical Release as Marketing Begins This Summer

Over the past few months, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been surrounded by rumors, from possible delays and marketing plans to questions about artificial intelligence and the game’s physical release.

Now, Take-Two Interactive has stepped in to clear things up, addressing several of the most discussed topics surrounding one of the most anticipated games ever.

GTA 6 Will Not Use Generative AI

gta 6 pc

One of the most important clarifications comes from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who confirmed that GTA 6 will not use generative AI.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick explained, “Generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That’s what differentiates them. They’re built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood. They’re not procedurally generated, they shouldn’t be.”

In addition to clearing up these concerns, Take-Two also shared new information about GTA 6’s marketing plans. During its latest quarterly financial report, the company confirmed that marketing for the game will start in the summer. This means new trailers, gameplay reveals, and official updates are expected closer to release, following Rockstar’s usual approach of promoting its games nearer to launch.

Take-Two also addressed speculation about the game’s physical release. Zelnick dismissed rumors suggesting that retail copies could be delayed to reduce the risk of leaks, stating clearly that this is not the case. Grand Theft Auto VI will launch with a physical edition available from day one, alongside the digital version, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The publisher once again reaffirmed that GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026. These announcements come during a strong financial period for Take-Two, which recently confirmed that GTA 5 has surpassed 225 million copies sold worldwide.

In other news, high-ranking Russian officials and conservative groups have called for GTA 6 to be banned or heavily censored in Russia, saying the game includes content they consider immoral.

GTA 6 is set for release on November 19 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Next-Gen Xbox on Track for 2027 Release According to AMD

While Xbox might be pushing for more of its first-party games to appear on competing platforms, that doesn’t mean the division will stop pushing for consoles altogether.

On the contrary, it seems we’re a year away from seeing the next-gen Xbox make an appearance — at least if certain people are to be believed.

Mind, it’s not just a random person or an anonymous report that’s saying this, but the actual big cheese of a multi-billion dollar tech company, which we think might know a thing or two that the gaming public doesn’t know about.

Next-Gen Xbox Out in 2027 Per AMD

Speaking in a video interview with GamesBeat (paywalled), AMD CEO Lisa Su basically confirmed the next-gen Xbox, which is currently unnamed, is on track for release in 2027.

Su said, “From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”

You can’t get more cut-and-dry than that, right? While Microsoft hasn’t commented on when we’ll see the next Xbox drop, 2027 seems like a good estimate given the Xbox Series X|S was released in 2020. Give or take a few years, a console’s lifecycle usually lasts for five years.

Will gamers embrace the next-gen right away? Probably not since the current consoles (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2) we have now have a lot of life yet. Unless these new next-gen consoles can offer something more than just a graphical upheaval.

In any case, it seems like we’re nearing the start of a next-gen console era, and that’s always exciting.

Sony Patents AI-Generated Podcasts Using PlayStation Character Voices

As technology continues to evolve, each major company is taking its own approach to stay ahead. According to a patent filed on WIPO Patentscope, Sony is working on a system that would use generative AI to create podcasts featuring PlayStation characters.

This could mean listening to Kratos talk about the God of War saga, or Ellie sharing survival tips from The Last of Us. The idea is to offer audio content directly through the PS5 interface, without the need to rely on external platforms like Spotify or YouTube, which many players currently use while gaming.

Sony Patent Suggests Personalized PlayStation Character Podcasts on PS5

playstation podcast

In the patent description, Sony explains that “video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide unique and targeted content to gamers to update the gamers about things that are happening on the platform.” These personalized podcasts would provide updates and information directly on the console, so players would not need to leave their PS5.

The document, titled “LLM-BASED GENERATIVE PODCASTS FOR GAMERS,” describes a system where each PS5 user would receive podcasts tailored to their preferences, current activity, or the game they are playing. For example, if a player is stuck in a section of God of War Ragnarök, Kratos and Atreus could explain how to move forward through an in-console podcast-style guide.

Sony also wants to avoid the typical robotic voices often associated with AI-generated audio. The patent mentions the use of animated characters and voiceovers with a light, humorous tone, acting almost like a modern version of Microsoft’s old Clippy assistant, but integrated into gameplay.

Interestingly, the patent does not limit this idea to PlayStation consoles. It also references other platforms such as Xbox, Nintendo systems, PC, and mobile devices, suggesting that the technology could be used more broadly if Sony decides to move forward with it.

While this concept may not appeal to everyone—especially those critical of generative AI—it could become an interesting addition to the PS5 interface. For now, it remains a patent, and it is unclear whether Sony will turn this idea into a real feature in the future.

Obsidian Admits Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 Missed Sales Expectations

Obsidian is often described as one of Xbox’s most active studios. In 2025 alone, the developer released three major titles. The first was Avowed, a fantasy action RPG set in the world of Pillars of Eternity. Months later, Grounded 2 launched in early access on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Finally, The Outer Worlds 2 arrived at the end of October on PS5, Xbox, PC, and Game Pass, closing a very busy year for the studio.

So how did these games perform commercially? An interview with Obsidian leaders Feargus Urquhart, Josh Sawyer, and Brandon Adler sheds light on the situation, and the picture is not entirely positive.

Obsidian Explains Why Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 Failed to Meet Sales Targets

Both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failed to reach Microsoft’s sales targets, while Grounded 2 met expectations and is considered a success.

“They’re not disasters,” studio head Feargus Urquhart says. “I’m not going to say this was a kick in the teeth. It was more like: ‘That sucks. What are we learning?’”

While releasing three games in a single year may seem impressive, Obsidian now believes it was a mistake. Only Grounded 2 performed as expected, while the other two titles—each developed over more than six years—fell short commercially. As a result, the studio is now rethinking its approach.

“I don’t think anybody really likes five-, six-, seven-year dev cycles. We’ve kind of grown into that,” explained Brandon Adler, director of The Outer Worlds 2.

“Spacing those releases helps the company manage its resources and not burn everybody out. It’s not good to release three games in the same year. It’s the result of things going wrong,” added Josh Sawyer.

Urquhart also revealed that Microsoft expects profit margins of around 30% for some Xbox releases. This helps explain why games like The Outer Worlds 2 also launched on PS5.

Looking ahead, The Outer Worlds 2 will be supported with expansions, as Obsidian is not currently working on a third game and no plans have been shared so far for Avowed 2.

It’s also worth noting that Avowed is officially coming to PlayStation 5 on February 17, 2026, alongside a major first-anniversary update that hits all platforms. That should boost the game’s sales performance significantly.

Melee weapons and Armor passive with increased melee damage re-balance

  • Intent is to make the Armor passive that increases melee damage less mandatory but still be useful to make melee weapons more effective.
  • We increased all the melee weapons damage and decreased the modifiers on the armor passives that increase melee damage.
  • Total damage with the melee armor passive will be higher or the same as before.
  • Base melee attack also got a 50% damage increase.

SMG and Pistol rounds less Sway

  • The intent is that the increased drag of SMG and Pistol which make it a close combat weapon and less effective at range is the main characteristic of these weapons.
  • We decreased the Sway modifier to be the same as most other weapons

Unify Weapon function directions inputs

  • The intent is to make the “weapon function modes” that are similar to be on the same “weapon function direction input”.
  • This is to make it easier to remember which direction similar types of weapon functions are and also make it so you need to use less “quick weapon functions” inputs.

Enemies

helldivers 2 screenshot

General
Some enemies have had their damage vs durable rebalanced to adjust for Helldiver vehicles with large health pools. It will not change their effectiveness against normal Helldivers, only their vehicles.

Things like attacks from Bile Titans, Chargers, Crescent Overseers, Overseers, Rocket firing Automatons, Hulk melee attacks, mortars, acid etc have gotten values adjusted. Some of the adjustments only affect certain targets (ie the Bastion). Other adjustments also affect the FRV and Exosuits.

Enemies Aim calculations were not always updated when there were many enemies trying to aim, making Automatons on higher difficulties a bit bad at aiming. They should now attempt to update the aim better considering the data they have before they get another proper aim update. This means that Automatons will aim better even when there are a lot of them without any further cost to performance.

  • Overseer`s weapon now deals increased damage vs Durable targets

Crescent Overseer

  • Increased force on artillery attack to stagger the Helldiver
  • Increased the damage of its direct shot attack
  • Crescent Overseer`s weapon now deals increased damage vs Durable targets

Gameplay

helldivers 2 update 1.003.104

Emotes and Victory poses

Emotes and victory poses are now interchangeable. Except for a few exceptions like emotes that require 2 people, the kick and a few others, all the victory poses can now be used as emotes and all emotes can now be used as victory poses

Fixes

Hang Detection

As part of our ongoing war against bugs and instability we have introduced a “hang detection” feature in the PC version. If the game hangs (freezes) for more than 20 seconds then this new feature will crash the game instead of letting it stay hung. This generates a file called a “crash dump” which contains important debugging information for our programmers to diagnose and fix the root cause of the hang.

If you experience a hang, please wait at least 40 seconds before restarting your PC to allow the hang detector to do its job.

If you experience a 20+ second hang followed by a crash: If the crash reporting window shows up then please submit the report as usual.

If the crash reporting window doesn’t show up (it can fail), we humbly request that you share the crash dump file with our player support team (https://arrowhead.zendesk.com/). They will be able to assist you in locating and sharing the crash dump file.

  • RS-422 Railgun now properly displays the clip during the Reload animation if the player reloads the weapon immediately after firing

  • High-Command has now authorized Commando Operations to be carried out on all Automaton controlled planets. They will frequently be available to choose alongside the regular Peace Keeping Operations going forward
  • Fix damage inconsistencies between client and host damage. Clients should no longer do less damage than the host
  • Players no longer get stuck under the bridge during Rapid Acquisition missions

  • Implemented performance improvements affecting explosions and general destruction, primarily surrounding bot factories

This is one of the biggest patches we’ve seen for Helldivers 2, and as such, don’t be surprised to see a follow-up update be released to sort out any issues that might arise.

Resident Evil Village Minor Update 1.15/1.230 Released in February 2026

Capcom has released a surprise update for Resident Evil Village on all platforms, and this is an unannounced title update, so don’t expect anything major from it.

Console gamers will see this download appear as Resident Evil Village update 1.15/1.230 (complete version 1.230.000), and, like the Resident Evil 4 remake patch released today, this doesn’t include any new gameplay content.

To know what Capcom added, read on.

Resident Evil Village Minor Update Released in February 2026

Resident Evil Village Update 1.205

There’s no new game content included in today’s update, as Capcom states, “Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 have just been updated to add LATAM Spanish voice and Polish display text options. Update your game and find them under Options > Language.”

For those who own the game on Switch, this update won’t be available for you, and there’s no explanation why.

While we’re not expecting any new game updates for Resident Evil Village, things could change given we’re inching closer and closer to the release of Resident Evil Requiem. We’ve seen it happen before where developers add a marketing banner or something in-game to promote the latest game in the franchise, and we wouldn’t put it past Capcom to do something like it.

Speaking of Resident Evil Requiem a new report states that Chris and Ada won’t make an appear in the game.

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on February 27, so expect a lot more coverage of the game to hit MP1st. With RE Village finshing Ethan’s story, Requiem will feature a different storyline from the Resident Evil universe, and it’ll even feature a new protagonist in Grace Ashcroft.

Console players will see this download appear as Resident Evil 4 update 1.12/1.500 (complete version 1.500.000), and this is a small download.

Given the state of the game, don’t expect this to include any major gameplay changes.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Review – Retro Remade

Dragon Quest VII is over 25 years old. In fact, it has already been remade once before, for the 3DS. For this second remake, everything has been rebuilt from the ground up with modern sensibilities in mind.

Launching just a few months after the recent success of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, can Square Enix continue mining their older franchises for gold? Read our Dragon Quest VII Reimagined review to see why that seems like as solid a plan as any!

Crisp Environments, Runs on Anything

As with so many other remakes these days, the Unreal Engine was chosen to do the heavy lifting. It does so with ease. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined should run on just about any computer you might have; with minimum specs quoting such ancient parts as a 6th-gen i3 and a GTX 750, almost everyone will be able to enjoy this remake.

The game’s new diorama visuals are charming, with crisp environments, interesting and colorful enemy designs, and a high, consistent frame rate throughout. Some of the overworld sections have a very narrow field of view, resulting in a big chunk of the world out of focus. It kind of reminds me of the overworld of Expedition 33: Clair Obscur, but with doll proportions to the characters, which is obviously intentional.

Dragon Quest VII is very cinematic, and plays a lot of homage to classic RPGs of the era. All cutscenes are fully animated and voiced, and done so quite well in either audio language. Square Enix used actual physical dolls which they scanned into this remake, and the effect is this interesting look where their movement and expressions look and feel like a Pixar movie.

An Epic Score

A full soundtrack accompanies Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, and you know you’re in for a treat from the very first cutscene. A sweeping orchestral soundtrack makes even picking up a basic item sound like an event. While some of the background music can get a tad repetitive after some time, the landscape and scenarios change frequently enough that most songs won’t overstay their welcome.

The original Dragon Quest VII offered over 100 hours of gameplay before you’d seen everything the game had to show you. This time around is no different, but it is easier to stay on-track and only play the main campaign. Having said that, realistically you’ll probably still need to set aside several dozen hours if you plan on at least seeing the credits.

Most of the core of the original Dragon Quest VII has been retained in this remake. One of the largest changes is in how the vocation system works. Vocations are specialized classes, which offer different battle strategies and allowed only certain characters to learn certain skills, such as a Priest learning healing moves, or a Warrior learning more powerful attacking skills. In Reimagined, a new Let Loose command has a chance to activate, seemingly randomly. Once ready, the character who is ready to let loose is surrounded by a blue aura, and they can perform the command whenever it’s their turn during a fight. What exactly the command does depends on what a character’s vocation is. For instance, the Hero’s initial vocation is Fledgling Fisherman, and his Let Loose ability is called Ocean’s Devotion. Its effect is that each ally sees the next attack against them completely neutralized. This can be timed such that everyone can take a chance to heal without taking any damage, or at least lessening it in the event that they are attacked twice in a row.

Experiment; It Won’t Hurt

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined doesn’t explain everything to the player; you are expected to experiment and figure out how things work on your own. Take the aforementioned vocations; the skills learned while one character has it set as theirs are exclusive to that vocation. Characters can expand their available skills by mastering these vocations, which level up using a different XP track as compared to each character’s main level. But to add variety to their skillset, characters can also moonlight as a secondary vocation. As an example, a character with a Pirate vocation has the opportunity to learn the Flying Knee skill, but only if they moonlight as a Martial Artist. This serves as a way to keep skills unique to certain vocations, and also as an incentive which rewards players for combining two vocations that they might not otherwise have considered.

While a lot of Dragon Quest VII has been, well, reimagined, some remnants of the past remain. While the game has background auto-saves that occur each time you enter or exit a location, that doesn’t mean manual saves are out of the question. Saving manually can only be done at certain locations, such as churches in a village or Sacred Statues, just like in the original release. Generally, you won’t lose much progress even if you abruptly quit the game, even if you don’t take advantage of any save spots before venturing forth into a dungeon or new region.

Streamlined Story and Fights

Some other things have been streamlined in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. Many quests have had some portions removed, which can cut down on the time spent tediously traversing across an island on what are essentially fetch quests. Enemies are also visible in the overworld, and as with most RPGs if you can press the attack button as you approach them, then you’ll begin the battle with an advantage. Once you level up enough, this single hit can take out one or more enemies in a single hit, and you’ll receive the same rewards as if you had bested those enemies in a regular turn-based fight.

For long-term fans of Dragon Quest VII specifically, there are extra scenarios which fill in some backstory of some of the main characters, such as a peek at both the Hero’s and Maribel’s childhoods, a story involving an older Kiefer, and other tweaks done in the interest of a more streamlined experience. The end result is that, provided you stick to the main storyline, it rarely feels like you’re doing busy work when progressing through the adventure.

Pros

  • Diorama-style visuals are charming
  • Character visuals are enhanced by their real-world doll roots
  • Sweeping soundtrack adds to the onscreen drama
  • Streamlined story helps you progress more quickly than before
  • Fleshed-out character backstories should please veterans of the original
Editor’s Choice Badge
Verdict
9/10
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined was well worth the wait for fans of the original. Anyone looking for an old-school style RPG updated with some modern sensibilities will also get plenty of mileage in a game this packed full of quests, vocations to master, and even monsters to catch. While the inclusion of DLC in a game that originally had none is an odd sight, not having access to any of it doesn’t detract from what is otherwise a fantastic remake. Saving Estard never looked so good.

Cons

  • DLC feels odd in a game originally introduced 25 years ago
  • Classic turn-based gameplay may be too slow paced for some

DICE has pushed out the Battlefield 6 preload version 1.000.010, which should be live on consoles as you read this. This is for patch 1.1.3.6, and this brings player movement improvements, technical fixes and more.

While this patch doesn’t contain any new content, it does usher in some much-needed fixes. This is also a better way of handling the game’s bugs than having to wait until the Season 2 patch arrives before fixing issues.

For the complete info, read on. Don’t forget, while we can download the preload data now, the patch itself won’t be available for installation until tomorrow, February 3.
