Welcome to February! The days are getting longer, spring is around the corner, and – perhaps most excitingly of all – we have a wide range of improvements and quality of life changes releasing today as part of a large core update, which includes a Open Beta for Formation Designer for Steam and Epic players.

You can expect to see improvements for Blackpool Branches, Maintalbahn, Centro Regional Railway Class 323, and many more!

These will be rolling out to players on all platforms over the course of the next 24 hours – consoles this morning, and PC later this afternoon, so keep your eyes peeled for downloads!

Headliners

General improvement to brightness on PIS screens to be more visible/readable during both day and night.
Multiple Free Roam fixes for locos that weren’t able to move after spawning
Adjustments to scoring thresholds to make achieving a Platinum medal possible across many services and scenarios, and more in line with expectations (90% of maximum possible score).
Improvement to ensure created liveries are appearing correctly in gameplay
Added option to disable Traction Lock icon for the Minimal HUD

Birmingham Cross City

Fixed no passengers spawning at Kings Norton or Gravelly Hill.
Passengers no longer appear at Lichfield Trent Valley in the scenario “Engineering a Shunt”, as this station has engineering work going on.
Fixed an issue where Kings Norton and Lichfield City didn’t show on the PIS

Bernina Line

Adjustments to fog variables to improve visuals and fine-tunability to fit the scenery better.
(Valleys will have less dense fog, hills will have more dense fog)

GWE BR Class 43 HST

Upgraded windows to include new TSW4 rain effects
Fixed an issue where the front wipers wouldn’t clear rain from windows

Fixed an issue with the SD70ACe display screens so that the brakes can be cut in correctly, allowing the loco to be started.
Fixed an issue preventing the MRCE and Dispolok 182 from moving.
Fixed an issue where the DB BR 185.5 wouldn’t move after spawning.
Fixed an issue where the Class 47 and 52 wouldn’t take power after spawning.
Fixed an issue where the BR 146 wouldn’t take power after spawning.
Fixed an issue where the BR 182, 185, 187 wouldn’t take power after spawning.
Fixed an issue on the Bakerloo Line where players were unable to set destination path for the full length of the route.

Livery Designer

Improvement to ensure created liveries are appearing correctly in gameplay
Fixed an issue with the loco model not appearing when copying liveries.
Fixed an issue where deleted liveries would continue to appear in UI options

Scoring

Adjustments to scoring thresholds to make achieving a Platinum medal possible across many services and scenarios, and more in line with expectations (90% of maximum possible score).
Added player assist notification to alert what systems need to be turned on to award the safety system bonus.
Fixed an issue on the Scoring Breakdown where the added score was inconsistent to the total score awarded.
Fixed an issue where the speeding penalty was not being correctly applied.
Fixed an issue where activating Safety systems mid way through a route would award 0 points in the scoring breakdown.
Fixed an issue where wiper penalties were being applied without it raining due to weather settings.

Known Scoring Issues
We are aware of some existing issues with scoring which we intended to resolve in this patch but weren’t able to include, so we’d like to highlight these for you:

Antelope Valley ‘EMD F125 Training Introduction’ – Unable to achieve platinum
Vorarlberg ‘Pick Up’ scenario – Unable to achieve platinum
Antelope Valley (Services/Scenarios) – Too easy to achieve platinum without safety systems enabled
Maintalbahn ‘Getting the Cold Shoulder’ scenario – Too easy to achieve platinum without safety systems enabled
[PS4] Score for using safety systems is set to 0 if you enable them after starting a scenario

Blackpool Branches

Moved markers at Salwick Goods Loop to be more forgiving to players
Moved stop location at Blackpool North to accomodate longer locomotives
Fixes timing errors on services 2J56, 2J54 and 2J52 where instructions were an hour early
Fixes to locomotives spawning in buffers if they were too long which caused derailments in multiple services
Made the Class 31 drivable on the 3-coach-consist and the Mineral wagons on freight services
Fixed Numbering so each class 142 livery displays correct numbers for the era
Fixed an issue where Service 2J52 would cause a derailment upon launch.

Class 142

Fixed an issue with AI getting stuck trying to open doors
Implemented a manual Gear Hold switch in the cab of the 142

Class 47

Changed font on vehicle numbering to the correct type
Fixed an issue on the Class 47 service 0Z25 where the player spawns at a faraway station

Midland Main Line

Fixed various spelling mistakes on signage and in text.
Reduced number of high-rise buildings around Loughborough, Long Eaton and Derby stations to better represent the area.
Removed a signal box from a yard behind Spondon station.
Fixed various posters at Derby station to resolve flickering textures.

Class 158

Gangways and cab/gangway doors will now behave as expected on 4-car formations.

Bernina Line

Adjustments to fog variables to improve visuals and fine-tunability to fit the scenery better.
(Valleys will have less dense fog, hills will have more dense fog)
Carriages coupled behind Allegra EMU will correctly have new rain effects on the windows.
Passengers should now be lit by the interior passenger lights

Birmingham Cross City

Fixed no passengers spawning at Kings Norton or Gravelly Hill.

Metrolink Rotem cars

Will now correctly use air as appropriate
Fixed an issue with the brake application audio hiss not playing
Doors should correctly operate down the entire consist when paired with Bi Level cars
Fixed a texture issue where the blue ribbon on the fireman side was flickering constantly.
Reduced the volume of passenger door beep audio inside the cab.
Fixed an audio artefact in the running sounds.

Metrolink F125

Air valve will now open when the horn presses
Fixed various texture issues where labels are flickering constantly.

Maintalbahn

Fixed a texture issue causing some buses to have vibrant emissive windows
Fixed an issue where Service 44882 would cause a derailment upon launch.
Fixed an issue during the ‘On Your Bike’ scenario where the ‘Close doors’ objective was automatically completed, regardless of door status.
Score breakdown is no longer missing in the debrief screen for the ‘Filling Up’ scenario
Fixed an issue with floating platform signs at Aschaffenburg station.

BR 642

Parking brake buttons will now correctly apply the brakes.
‘Konfiguration’ screen now displays the correct vehicle number ‘641 001’.
PIS will display the correct information after reloading from a save.
Player will no longer be able to climb up through a passenger door if it is closed.
Fixed an issue where the “Federspeicher” message on the left displays didn’t disappear
Fixed issue where moving the throttle would incorrectly reset the SIFA

Remedy Entertainment has released Alan Wake 2 update 1.000.016 (Xbox version 1.0.0.16, PC version 1.0.16), a small update addressing a few known issues. Here are the patch notes for today’s Alan Wake 2 update.

Xbox – Fixed random crashes on game exit or when the game is suspended.
Fixed cases where players couldn’t exit interactable notes and containers (e.g. Nursery Rhymes or the Shotgun Puzzle in the Covenience Store).
Fixed the missing Lighthouse keys after opening the last Cult Stash in Cauldron Lake.
Fixed Saga’s magical crossbow so that it stays in the Shoebox if put in there and does not appear on her back anymore unless carried for real.

A pretty small update, though that’s to be expected since we just got a big update last week for Alan Wake 2. We expect plenty of more updates to arrive in the coming weeks and months, as there are still some issues, such as audio on the Xbox Series, and performance improvements that players are still experiencing.

Madden NFL 24 update 1.015 is now and it seems to be for current-gen platforms only based from what we checked. Players shouldn’t expect anything from this outside of fixes, as we just got a meaty fix-filled patch patch two weeks ago. Read what’s new in the Madden 24 new update patch notes for February 8.

At the moment, EA has yet to release any patch notes for this update, though that should change within the day as is usually the case.

We don’t expect this update to be a big one, likely around bug fixes, as it is an unannounced update that didn’t have any maintenance tied to it. Once EA has released the patch notes, we’ll be sure to update the story. For now, don’t expect this update to have anything major tucked away in it.

PC players may also want to check if any of the reported issues on Steam have been resolved with this update.

QUESTS

Addressed:

• Moon Gatherer – Players previously stuck in the progression of this side quest are now able to finish it by returning to its initial starting location in Sacred Archives.
• Treasure of the Seven Seas – Stubborn but colorful parrot does not want to return to the Pirate Captain leaving players unable to finish the quest.²
• Treasure of the Seven Seas – Quest breaks when it’s start wasn’t confirmed before leaving the level due to too many side quests being active at the same time. ²
• Lost Warriors – The lost warrior on the bridge outside of Mount Qaf’s main gate respawns one more time after reloading the level after he was defeated.

This week we are rolling out some changes to progression, with several adjustments to how XP is earned. These changes will help you tackle the Battlepass and Career Ranks! It’s time to scramble!

Important to note:

Default settings for VoIP have been reset for all players! The best offense is a good defense, and the best defense requires good communication. Check out the details of the changes below and make sure to change your settings if you prefer.

Finally, we are aware of problems with the explosive power of the red canisters and that barrels have unintentional stacking damage. You can expect a fix to these issues in the next major update.

Game Show Events
- Disabled the ‘Dead Go Boom’ game show event
  - Dev Note:
    We feel this event punishes melee users too much at present, so we’re disabling it for now. We’re hoping to return it to the game, after a re-work, at some point in the future
UI
- Added a ‘play again’ button to the end-of-round sequence, allowing players in a party to quickly get into the next match
VoIP
- Set VoIP to be enabled by default on PC, with Push To Talk set as the default input (existing players)
- Set VoIP to be enabled by default on console, with Voice Activated set as the default input (existing players)
  - Dev Note:
    we want to encourage more teamplay in matches, and enabling VoIP for all players is part of that effort. Players can disable VoIP via settings. We previously made this change in update 1.5 for new players and saw positive results!

Helldivers 2 Soars to the Top on Steam Charts, One Day Before Launch

Helldivers 2 might be in for quite the success if Steam charts are anything to go by, as it has managed to take the number-one spot here in the United States for top-seller.

For those living stateside, you may have noticed a new number-one seller on Steam today, and it’s for none other than Arrowheads Game Studios’ Helldivers 2! With the release tomorrow, February 8, Helldivers 2 has managed to move past other top sellers such as Call of Duty (accounts for all COD games under the launcher), Counter-Strike 2, the Steam Deck, and even Palworld!

Globally, Helldivers 2 is sitting at number five as writing.

Mind you, this doesn’t mean that Helldivers 2 has outsold all those games, only that it has garnered more money (game purchases, DLC, and microtransactions available) than those titles on Steam in the last 27 hours. Valves explains this for how the top seller list works on Steam.

“Top Sellers lists are generated automatically based on all revenue sources for a game, including DLC and in-game transactions. This allows the charts to reflect the games that players are most excited to invest in right now.

For each game, we roll up all the player spending from the trailing 24 hours and then add extra weight to spending in the last 3 hours. That extra weighting of the most recent spending helps Steam to more quickly reflect changes, like a popular new release or a game trending upward.”

Several of the listed titles in the top seller list are free-to-play or paid experiences with extensive microtransactions available. Palworld, which was released last month, is a paid title and sold 12 million copies just last week. Things might have slowed down for it, but we can’t imagine it being that big of a decrease since last week.

To see Helldivers 2 pulling ahead of it, at least in the United States, is quite impressive. Could this be a sign of the success to come? We hope so, as the first Helldivers was highly popular with the PC crowd when it came out for it. Its sequel is looking bigger and better, something that PlayStation 5 and PC gamers will be able to enjoy when it launches tomorrow, February 8.

Fixed various minor bugs

We aren’t sure which bugs are fixed in this update, as these are the only notes available (via the PS4 update history). Should SEGA release anything more specific, we’ll update the notes above.

There’s also a possibility that this update adds some compatibility support for the upcoming free Shadow skin that will be available on February 15. If not, we’ll likely get another update next week.

Homeworld 3 Delayed to May 13, 2024

Gearbox Publishing along with developer Blackbird Interactive have announced that Homeworld 3 has been delayed from March to its new release date of May 13, 2024. Check out the explanation from the studio.

Gamers can expect Homeworld 3 to be released on May 13, 2024 with advanced early access being able to play it on May 10. Read on for the complete delay announcement sent by the PR team.

Hello, Commanders –

We hope you all have been enjoying your first-time going hands-on with Homeworld 3 during our public demo of War Games.

Watching you share your experiences, exchange and debate strategies, and give us constant feedback has been incredible. This was our first time seeing the game played at scale, which is always an equally thrilling and nerve-wracking moment.

We also recently gathered a dedicated group of players from outside our organizations to play through the full game. This resulted in additional insights and perspective that will be incorporated to make Homeworld 3 the best experience possible.

After careful analysis of feedback, we made the decision to delay the global launch of Homeworld 3 until May 13, with advanced access set for May 10, to ensure that we’re making the final tweaks needed to deliver at the level of quality that we strive for and you deserve.

To say that you as a community of players have been waiting patiently for this next installment would be an understatement, and we are deeply appreciative of that. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Stellar Blade’s Game Length Expect to Be Around 25 Hours; 30-50 Hours for Full Completion

Stellar Blade has been having quite the news blowout ever since its release date was announced at last month’s State of Play event, and though much of the game still remains a mystery, we now have a firm idea of just how long it’ll take to beat.

Speaking to Korean outlet RULIWEB, Shift Up’s CEO said this about the campaign’s length.

“Question: I understand that the reason for the release being slightly later than originally expected was that volume issues were pointed out during Sony’s inspection process. I’m curious what content was added to improve this, and to what extent the total play time is guaranteed.

CEO Kim Hyeong-tae: It is not that defects were discovered during the inspection process, but the release was delayed due to the polishing process. Playtime is expected to be about 25 hours for the main story and 30 to 50 hours if you include all the collection elements.”

Aside from Stellar Blade’s campaign length, developer Shift Up spoke to Famitsu (via Gematsu) and a trove of gameplay details was shared:

Linear game mixed with semi-open world areas
Inspired by NieR: Automata
Combos, parries and evasion play a big role in combat
Gameplay requires you to carefully asses enemy movements
Difficulty can be adjusted
Boss battles are a key element
Each boss has a unique attack pattern
Includes long range weapons
Help restore the city of ‘Zion’ and its residents
Receive side quests from NPCs in town
Will have fishing!
Eve has 20-30 costumes
Adam and Lily also have costumes
There will be rare costumes
Collect costume material and designs in-game
Costumes can also be purchased in towns
Inspired by Battle Angel Alita and Blade Runner
Inspired by other games such as Sekiro, Bayonetta, God of War and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

It sounds like players can expect plenty, not only from the campaign but also from whatever side content it’ll have at release, which thankfully isn’t far off, as Stellar Blade will be available exclusively for the PS5 on April 26.

FTC Continues Push Against Microsoft’s Activision Acquisition Citing Recent Layoffs to Support Claims

Microsoft may have closed the deal on the Activision Blizzard King buyout last October, but that doesn’t mean the battle is completely over for them, as the FTC continues to throw every attempt to undo the merger, with the latest claiming that Microsoft misled courts on how Activision would continue operations post-merger.

The news comes from a letter (spotted by Gamesfray on X, via Techraptor) sent by the FTC today claiming that the recent layoffs at Microsoft, which saw many from the Activision Blizzard King side lose their jobs, contradicting what Microsoft said during the trial.

“The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) writes to notify the Court of Microsoft’s publicly reported plan to eliminate 1,900 jobs in its video game division.” The letter writes, “This newly-revealed information contradicts Microsoft’s representations in this proceeding, which seeks to temporarily pause Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, pending the FTC’s evaluation of the merger’s antitrust merits. Microsoft represented to this Court that “the post-merger company will be structured and operated in a way that would readily enable Microsoft to divest any or all of the Activision businesses as robust market participants in the unlikely event that such a divestiture is ordered.” Further, Microsoft argued that the principal public equity that would be served by an injunction—“to maintain the pre-merger status quo”—is “not implicated by Microsoft’s vertical acquisition of Activision, which Microsoft intends to operate as a limited-integration studio.” Microsoft claimed that the public equity favoring an injunction “is more acutely implicated in horizontal mergers, where competing entities integrate their operations and, in the process, often eliminate redundancies.”

This is the latest attempt by the FTC to block, or rather, reverse, the deal. Though the deal has been closed, that does not mean that Microsoft is safe from it potentially being undone, something that the FTC has been pursuing since they lost in court last year.

Whether they end up succeeding or failing is up to the courts to decide. At the moment, the letter has yet to receive any response from the courts or Microsoft. We’ll continue to keep you updated as the story continues to develop.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus Arrives March 7 With New Suits and More

For those who were waiting to hop back into Insomniac’s latest web-weaving title, there’s no time like March. On March 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus will arrive in a hefty update alongside new suits and other features.

This news was announced on Insomniac Games’ official Twitter/X account earlier today:

The tweet claims that the next title update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 arrives on March 7 and adds “highly requested features” such as New Game Plus, new suits, and more. It also invites fans to keep a close eye on the team’s social media channels to see a complete list of features closer to release.

Players have been clamoring for a New Game Plus mode since the game launched way back in October of last year. There’s a lot of fun to be had in running through a game you’ve already beaten with your completed suite of abilities and unlocks. New Game Plus modes also tend to add some additional rewards and challenges, occasionally even adding new content.

Hopefully we’ll hear more about the rumored DLC for Spider-Man 2 once this update is out. New Game Plus feels like the last big thing the game needs before diving into a story expansion. We’re looking forward to hopping back into New York City in the near future.

Starfield Beta Update 1.9.67 Now Live With FSR 3 and XeSS Support

As announced last week, Bethesda Game Studios has released Starfield Beta update 1.9.67 for Steam players to test out. This update introduces several bug fixes, including new upscaling options for AMD’s FSR 3 and Intel’s Xe Super Sampling. Here’s everything else that’s also included in this update.

Starfield Update 1.9.67 (Beta) Patch Notes

GRAPHICS

Added support for AMD FidelityFXTM Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3). (PC)
Added support for Intel Xe Super Sampling (XeSS). (PC)
Fixed an issue that could make the clouds appear to vibrate when using DLSS performance mode. (PC)
Fixed minor visual artifact that could occur when aiming with a weapon or task swapping.

STABILITY

Changed how FormIDs are freed when loading saves. This should improve stability for saves that have visited many locations.
Fixed a crash that could happen when making changes to the ship that required all items to be moved to the cargo bay in the Ship Builder menu.

MISCELLANEOUS

Reverted a change that caused the data menu to open when taking screenshots with F12 (PC)
Fixed an issue causing the resolution scale to reset to 1.0 when switching from Fullscreen to Windowed mode when using DLSS. (PC)

Expect this update to include more changes and fixes once it’s officially out of testing, which shouldn’t be too long based on past beta update releases.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre update 1.000.014 is now live on PlayStation, fixing an issue causing players to crash during boot-up. Here’s everything we know included in today’s title update for the multiplayer horror game.

According to Gun Interactive, this update addresses crashing issues that surfaced for multiple players on the PS5 version of the game after the last update.

The team has just deployed a new patch to solve the issues our PS5 players have been facing since our February 6th patch.

- Capture the Hardpoint and hold it against attack. Fight back against the horde of zombies. The first team to reach the score limit wins.

- Progress through a series of weapons with your team. First team to reach the score limit wins.
Snipers Only (In-Seaason)
- Battle in objective-based modes with only hard-hitting Sniper Rifles.
Juggermosh (In-Season)
- All Juggernaut combat, all the time, within matches of Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint.
Bounty (In-Season)
- The player with the most kills from each team will be marked as an HVT. The HVT alternates on a time interval and rewards extra points when killed.

Two new Weapons debut at the helm of Season 2 with two specialized additions arriving later in-season.

BP50 (Assault Rifle)
- A modular bullpup chambered in 5.56. Tear down the competition with a high rate of fire and exceptional accuracy for dominating at mid to long ranges.
RAM-9 (Submachine Gun)
- More maneuverable and agile than its assault rifle counterpart, this bullpup SMG chambered in 9mm is lethal at close range.

GAMEPLAY

Today’s update includes substantial adjustments to core attributes of weapons in Modern Warfare III and Warzone. Prompted by player feedback and internal review, these changes intend to improve the precision and responsiveness of aiming, particularly while using a mouse – although, these changes may be observed regardless of the input device.

ADS Idle Sway

While a player is aimed down sight, idle sway is active. This mechanic discourages players from holding their sights for an extended period of time with a constant, subtle motion that introduces slight inaccuracy.

ADS idle sway now initiates shortly after aiming down sight, rather than immediately, introducing a delay to the sway curve that is generally 5ms long but varies by weapon.
- Note: Sniper Rifles are not included in this change.
After the initial delay, ADS idle sway now gradually increases over a 3s period before reaching peak speed, rather than beginning at full speed upon aiming down sights.
- Note: Sniper Rifles are not included in this change.
ADS idle sway now consistently begins from the position of the player’s hipfire crosshair, rather than along the sway curve.

These changes ensure that players with fast reflexes and precise aim aren’t disadvantaged the moment they aim down sights.

Hipfire Crosshair Sway

The trajectory of weapon bullets is represented by the hipfire crosshair position on the player’s screen. Previously, the crosshair was influenced by the direction of the weapon, causing the firing direction to deviate from the center of the screen. Today’s changes eliminate the resulting compromise to accuracy without sacrificing the weight and reactivity this motion added.

Hipfire crosshair will no longer sway from the center of the screen while the player moves or rotates the camera.
- Note: We’re aware that certain Stock Attachments may re-introduce this behavior. This is unintentional, and we’ll correct these artifacts in future game updates.
Weapon bullet trajectory is now truly aligned with the hipfire crosshair, and thus, the center of the player’s screen.

These changes reward skillful aim. Simply put, where you’re aiming is where your bullets will go.

- Addressed an issue causing field of view to be set higher than intended after infil.
- Players will no longer dive while using the Slide Only option on Controller.
Decreased delay before health regeneration begins from 4s to 3s (-25%).
Increased health regeneration rate from 40hp/s to 75hp/s (+88%).

We’ve adjusted health regeneration to better match the pace of gameplay. Now, for example, it’ll only take ~5s to heal from 1 to 150 health, down from the previous ~7.7s. These changes aim to enhance the intensity and satisfaction of gunfights.

End of Season Skill Setback

Welcome Back to Fortune’s Keep! How has the island changed?

Extendable Bridges
- Three Extendable Bridges over gaps in the fallen roadways are now present.
- These are not portable, but rather you can extend or retract them across a gap in the road by using a small control console, one on either side of the bridge.
- The controls react to more than melee interaction, in case you’re wanting to activate the bridge at range.

In addition, this updated version of Fortune’s Keep will encompass 11 Major Points of Interest, detailed below.

Keep: Rear Dock and Caves (North Coast)
- The grandeur of the Keep, with its opulent tapestries, mosaic floors, and gilded throne room, is mostly intact. Look to the north for additional pathways: With the arrival of aquatic vehicles, the steep northern cliffs below the Keep have been modified, adding a rear dock for unloading cargo, along with a rough cargo elevator (now sporting two Ascenders) enabling fast upward travel to the battlements. Under the foundations of the castle is a rock tunnel with openings to the sea, which runs east to west, all offering tactical access to and from the Keep.

Terraces: Fishing Docks and Cliff Paths (Northwest Coast)
- The battlements on the western side of the Keep may have seen better days, but the layout is still familiar. To the north along the coast, discover a second pier housing fishing boats and a bait shop. The area north of Terraces has received further construction changes, with Ascenders, additional stairs running along the cliffside, and small cave openings and grottos to traverse. This stretches north of the Graveyard along the coast to the northern tip of the Town POI.

Graveyard (Northwest Coast)
- The ancient stone crypts still stand on the small plateau above the Town. You might want to bank on a thorough exploration of this somber spot, not least due to the connecting tunnels burrowing down toward the epicenter of the action!

Town: Lower (Western Coast)
- The coastal town is still as densely packed as you remember, with an old fortress bell tower, brightly hued apartments and stores, and a turret defending the cove from seafaring attackers. Atop the new Police Station on the north side of the cove is a helipad, usually a good spot to locate a Light Helo for airborne maneuvers.

Town: Upper (Southwestern Coast)
- Initial evidence of a sizeable seismic event to hit the island is visible in the southeastern corner of Town, where a sizeable fissure has cut through the earth, splitting a dwelling into two. Tactically, this allows you to investigate the giant crack, leading to multi-level fighting opportunities and an entrance down into the main impact crater to the east.

Overlook: Restaurant (Southwestern Coast)
- East of Overlook (a fortified plateau with an old, multi-floor dwelling and Salty’s Snack Bar attached to it), on a slightly lower plateau overlooking the sea, is the Trattoria Il Luna, a newly constructed restaurant instead of the shack and military tents that used to be here. The eatery offers more than great views across the south of the island; there’s exterior access to tunnels below the cliffs.

Konni Outpost (Bay, Northeastern Coast)
- Once a seldom-visited locale, the old Bay POI now gives Operators their first clue to the faction behind the island’s partial collapse. Konni Group has established a small outpost here, complete with a mechanic’s garage, several small server and monitoring rooms, and a storage cave with Ascender access to the Keep’s eastern perimeter.

Pier (Camp, Southeastern Coast)
- Once a military camp with tents and a small watchtower, significant construction has since modified the southeastern coast into a pier and Tasting Room for the adjacent Winery, as well as a Rohan Oil Gas Station and convenience store.

Lighthouse (Southeastern Coast)
- While Smuggler’s Cove has seen cataclysmic damage, the initially alarming cracks along the exterior of the old lighthouse haven’t toppled the structure yet.

Winery (East)
- The chateau specializing in fine wines has seen better days, with massive structural problems visible across the premises. This includes a giant crack through the central courtyard, allowing a novel access into the now-flooded wine cellar. Perhaps that water can be drained? The old chapel, now used as storage for the vast fermenting casks, has lost its tower, which lies in three sizeable chunks.

Gatehouse (Center)
- The true extent of the damage caused by an apparent colossal subterranean explosion is most visible when investigating the Keep Gatehouse in the center of the map. The ramparts, multiple turrets, the arched entrance, and the barbican (the circular outer defensive tower) has sustained major damage, with the barbican itself sinking into the unstable ground below.

Ground Zero (Grotto, South Coast)
- Almost unprecedented destruction by the Konni Group has wiped an original point of interest off the map. The Grotto is now a deep crater, with portions of the island, including main roads and buildings, all sunken or fallen into a vast crevasse. The resulting wreckage should be explored as a matter of urgency, as the epicenter of the crater has been revealed to be a large Konni laboratory with a snaking network of corridors, chambers, and tunnels.

As you’re checking out all the changes we’ve made across the map, we wanted to give you some insight into the design decisions behind them.

First off, we listened to community feedback and tackled some of the gripes you had, like making locked doors easier to spot, simplifying the complicated underground caves and addressing some of the previous power positions. As we integrated water around the map, that meant opening some areas that used to be off-limits, like the cliffs behind Keep.

We also wanted to give the place a bit of a facelift to reflect the passage of time, as forty years have passed since your last visit and the Konni Group has moved in. We swapped up the old WW2 helipad and Smuggler Camp for the new Pier and Overlook Restaurant. The small bay next to Keep is now a Konni HQ and used for their operations in the area. We finally got around to adding some areas we’ve been wanting to update for a while, like the Throne Room and Vault (good luck unlocking it) in the Keep.

Drawing from our experience building content in Warzone over the last few years, we’ve put a ton of effort into fine-tuning everything. We’ve focused on making it smoother to path through the map by reducing the clutter in our interiors, swapping out confusing window textures for closed shutters or blinds, and adding more ways to climb up onto rooftops with our vine ladders. We also did a huge sweep of the ascenders, calling them out with glowsticks or spotlights and making sure ladders have colors that make them easier to spot.

Our goal was to make the map better than ever while keeping the elements everyone previously enjoyed about it intact. So, for those of you who’ve been here before we hope it feels like a fresh experience with a familiar vibe. To everyone getting to experience the map for the first time we hope you have a blast discovering the place.

WARZONE RANKED PLAY: RESURGENCE

We’re excited to introduce Ranked Play to Call of Duty: Warzone this year by first bringing competitive experiences to the popular, high-action Resurgence game mode.

Similar to our previous iteration of Warzone Ranked Play, Warzone Ranked Play: Resurgence will use competitive settings developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, along with the input and support of our partners at Sledgehammer Games.

Warzone Ranked Play: Resurgence aims to deliver a competitive and fair system of play while striving to ensure a consistent experience similar to other Resurgence modes. To achieve this, Resurgence Ranked Play is launching with initial gameplay restrictions and adjustments.

Restricted content will be re-evaluated each Season with the possibility of re-introducing content after fixes or balance adjustments.
We are constantly watching the state of the game and will react to live situations on a case-by-case basis.

We can’t wait for existing competitive players and new Resurgence players to dive in, climb through Skill Divisions, and earn some awesome rewards. Catch all of the details below!

Launch Preparations

Launch Matchmaking: During the Resurgence Ranked Play launch period, Skill Division Matchmaking restrictions will be relaxed, allowing players who climb into higher Skill Divisions faster than the rest of the population to find matches.
- Skill Division matchmaking will continue to put high Skill Division players in matches appropriate for their skill. As more players reach higher Divisions, we will begin tightening our matchmaking parameters.
- Pre-made parties are still subject to the outlined Party SR Restrictions. Please find these restrictions in the Competitive Integrity Features section below.

Breakdown: Earning SR
- Kills and Assists
- Players gain SR over the course of each match every time they get a Kill or Assist, with Kills and Assists being treated equally to encourage teamwork between Squadmates.
- Players also receive some SR each time a Squadmate gets a Kill, even if they didn’t contribute to the Kill.
- To reward high-stakes Kills and teamwork, SR increases over the course of each match based on the number of Squads left alive.
  - 9 – 17 Squads Remaining: +5 SR per Kills/Assists, +3 SR per Kill by Squadmate
  - 4 – 8 Squads Remaining: +7 SR per Kills/Assists, +5 SR per Kill by Squadmate

- Seasonal Challenges are a new addition to the Ranked Play SR system which allow players to complete a finite amount of challenges each Season that reward a large amount of SR.

- Death Fees begin at Silver I, increasing in -SR with each Division, and apply with every death.

Top 250 Leaderboard & Division

The Top 250 Division returns, ranking the top 250 Ranked Play players in the world on an in-game Leaderboard that all players can view starting Day 1 of each season from within the Resurgence Ranked Play lobby.
- Players will qualify for the Top 250 and appear on the Leaderboard as they surpass 10,000+ SR.
- The top 250 players with the highest SR above 10,000 will remain on the board and compete for 1st place over the remainder of the Season.
Ultimate Bragging Rights: In addition to new Rank and Seasonal Rewards in Warzone Ranked Play: Resurgence, the #1 Ranked Resurgence player will receive a unique, one-of-a-kind Calling Card and Emblem at the end of each Season.

Separate from the player’s SR and Skill Division is Rank. Rank persists across Seasons to celebrate the player’s journey across their Ranked Play career.

- All players start at Rank 1 and can progress to Rank 50.
- Players increase their Rank by earning Stars. Each match has the ability to award three (3) Stars dependent on match placement. Earn enough Stars to reach the next Rank.

Competitive Integrity Features

Rejoin: Players that unintentionally disconnect from a match will be able to reconnect to the match within 4 minutes.
- In order to uphold the Competitive Integrity of Ranked Play, certain criteria must be met in order to rejoin a match:
  - Players must have at least 1 Squad member remaining.
  - There must be at least 3 Squads remaining in the match.
  - Players can only rejoin the same match once.
  - To protect against abuse, players can have their ability to Rejoin temporarily limited if they repeatedly disconnect from matches.
- Callouts:
  - When a player disconnects their operator will remain in match and can be eliminated as if they were playing. Players who do not Rejoin during the allotted time will have their operator fully disconnected.
  - When a disconnected player is eliminated, their Resurgence timer will countdown as expected but they will only be redeployed once reconnected.
  - Players that have been eliminated for over 3 minutes and intentionally disconnect via ‘Leave Match’ will not be presented with the option to Rejoin.
  - Players that disconnect while operating a vehicle will be ejected from the driver’s seat.
Squad Backout / Match Cancel: If you lose a matchmade teammate before the match begins, your squad will be taken back to the lobby so you don’t start the match shorthanded. If too many squads get backed out before the match begins, we will return everyone to the lobby to find a better match.
Suspensions & Penalties: Disconnecting from matches early and not rejoining can result in SR Penalties and Matchmaking Suspensions. Repeated disconnects will result in higher SR Penalties and longer Suspensions.
- Note: Players that have been eliminated for over three minutes can disconnect from the match via “Leave Match” without penalties.
SR Forgiveness: If a matchmade teammate disconnects during a game and does not rejoin, you won’t lose any SR for the match. You’ll still be able to gain SR if you manage to gain more than your Deployment Fee. However, SR Forgiveness does not apply if a party member leaves the match early.
Demotion Protection: Every time you are promoted to a new Division, you’ll gain 3 games of Demotion Protection where you won’t lose any SR. Once those games have passed, if you happen to lose enough SR where you would normally get demoted, you’ll instead only lose enough SR to reach the Division SR floor (Gold would be 2100 SR for example) to give you one more chance before getting demoted.
Party SR Restrictions: To ensure competitive fairness and balance of matches in higher Skill Divisions, players in certain Divisions can only party up with players around their current SR. The player with the highest Skill Division in the party determines which Party SR Restrictions are used:
- Bronze – Platinum: Can party up without any restrictions
- Diamond: Can party within 2 Skill Divisions
- Iridescent (Including Top 250) & Crimson: Can party with players within 1 Skill Division

Hot Streaks: Win a Ranked Play game to earn Victory Streak Flames that appear behind your Rank Icon in the lobby and in-game. Extend your win streak to progress the flames. - The top three teams are rewarded with Cash, XP, and the location of a special reward cache that holds a powerful wonder weapon.

Resurgence | All Maps

Squad Wipe Streak
- Added a new “Skull and Sickles” icon next to the remaining teams, players, your kills, and players watching you.
- This represents the number of squad wipes you achieve back-to-back within 90-second windows.
- This stat is tracked per match and is added to your main stats along with your personal best.
- A white flare shoots up from the last enemy player to be slain after each streak. Visible for around ten seconds, this enables rival squads to spot your aggression if they’re observant.
- Compete with other squads and claim in-game Calling Card and Emblem rewards as you reach Squad Wipe milestones throughout this and future Seasons.
- This feature is disabled in Ranked Play.

Resurgence | Fortune’s Keep

Eradication Contract New Contract | In-Season
- Investigate any corpse you find, following tracks to a Zombie Nest of localized Zombie activity; they are infesting the island! Destroy the cysts, and any Zombie HVTs before the Contract completes. The exact type of HVT may change depending on time and other factors.

Zombies Power-Ups New Power Mechanics
- Double Points: 60-second duration. Doubles Plunder from ground loot and kills, and score events in Resurgence (that contribute to teammate respawn timers).
- Full Armor: Instant buff. Fully fills your active Armor slots on pickup.
- Max Ammo: Instant buff. Fully fills ammo for all your carried weapons on pickup.
- Fire Sale: 90-second duration. Reduces the price of all shop items for a small duration of time.
- Looting Spree: 60-second duration. Adds bonus items to caches, with a very high chance of a bonus Common item, and a small but significant chance of an additional Legendary item.
- Zarkour: 60-second duration. Increases movement speed by around 10%, with infinite Tactical Sprint and Reloading while Sprinting, and disables Fall Damage.
- Undead Sight: 45-second duration. Operators or AI enemies within the range of your vision are highlighted red and friendly squadmates are blue. Tracker footsteps are active.

Health Regen Delay
- The speed at which you begin to heal after taking damage has been decreased to 6 seconds, down from 7.

Health Regen Per Second
- Regen Per Second increased to 50, up from 40

After reviewing engagement data we felt there was room to both reduce the regen delay, and increase the regen time providing a total change of 1.75 seconds off of the regeneration process. As a reminder the Medic Vest and/or Survivor Perk both set the regen delay to 4 seconds, which also sees increased value with the regeneration change above.

Ground Loot
- Weapon builds have been updated in the ground loot.
- Newer weapons have been added.
- Existing weapons have received improved builds.
- Removed several Modern Warfare 2 weapons and those that came defaulted to burst fire.

Each season we are committed to updating the ground loot to include new weapon builds along with new items. This season we’re removing burst weapons from loot and reducing the number of semi-auto marksman rifles. It also includes a comprehensive re-balance of how many weapons from each title are included in the loot pool. Modern Warfare 2 weapons now account for 22% of the ground loot, down from 36%. As always this is a constantly evolving system with future adjustments pending.

“Danger Zone” Tac Map Notification Quality of Life
- An icon has been added to the Tac Map to show the “Danger Zone” of an incoming Precision Air Strike. Players in this area are at risk of being damaged.

This icon will only show when players are within a close range of the Precision Air Strike, to preserve the player story of when a player sees a squad driving a vehicle and tactically targets the area they are driving into far ahead of them.

- Alongside the above, the distance at which players see the existing warning banner for a Precision Air Strike on the HUD has had a range increase.

Our approach to Quality of Life for this year of Warzone is that there are no ‘golden geese’ when it comes to addressing friction points in current gameplay loops. No matter how long a feature or system has worked in a certain manner, we are reviewing our internal data and player sentiment for outliers – of which the Precision Airstrike was overdue in improvements to its UX. We look forward to hearing what the community thinks of the above changes.

UAV HUD Notification Quality of Life
- Players will now see a small red outline around their Minimap when they are under the influence of an enemy UAV in order to help better understand when they may be visible, or even pushed, by a team.

Moving forward, our goal is for systems to always have multiple callouts to guarantee that players don’t miss critical information in the heat of a firefight or engagement.

Auto-Equip Durable Gas Mask Quality of Life
- Players will now auto-equip the durable gas mask over the regular gas mask by default.
- Players can still equip a regular gas mask over an equipped durable in the backpack.

Redeploy Drone Ping Quality of Life
- The location of the ping icon for the Redeploy Drone has been moved to the bottom of the ascender to improve player navigation.

Death Location Highlight Quality of Life
- The player’s death skull icon appears upon redeployment and remains visible until the player has landed.
- When the player has landed, the death icon will stay for an extra 10 seconds if the player landed near the death icon.

Lootable Grenade Visibility Quality of Life
- Loadout Markers and Smoke Grenades are now easier to spot as ground loot – they are now up right and slightly elevated from the ground.
- This will now match the behavior of Deployable Buy Station grenades when they are on the ground.

Auto-Equip Stowed Killstreaks Quality of Life
- Players will now auto-equip the next available Killstreak that is stowed in the backpack if a matching one is not found.

Live Ping Fade Quality of Life
- While players are aiming down sights, live enemy pings will now fade away.

Stow Equipped Perk Pack Quality of Life
- Players can now stow their equipped Perk Pack.

Champion’s Quest

Champions Quest had an explosive debut in Season 1 Reloaded with over 6,500 detonations. We’re committed to keeping our nuke chasers on their toes and are increasing the potential for enemy defuses, along with changing up the order of the elements so that the disabling Tritium comes second in the element order. We’re excited to see if and how strategies change during Season 2.

As a reminder, progress towards unlocking a Champions Quest Token is reset each season. This achieves a few things – enables an even playing field to attempt any gameplay adjustments that may accompany the update. Along with ensuring there’s not an overabundance and exponential increase of nukes occurring as time goes on.

- The Gulag Token has been removed from Resurgence loot tables.

Dynamic Fog System
- The fog will now only be present in 8% of games, it was 24%.

WEAPONS

General

ADS Idle Sway
- While a player is aimed down sight, idle sway is active. This mechanic discourages players from holding their sights for an extended period of time with a constant, subtle motion that introduces slight inaccuracy.
  - ADS idle sway now initiates shortly after aiming down sight, rather than immediately, introducing a delay to the sway curve that is generally 5ms long but varies by weapon.
    - Note: Sniper Rifles are not included in this change.
  - After the initial delay, ADS idle sway now gradually increases over a 3s period before reaching peak speed, rather than beginning at full speed upon aiming down sights.
    - Note: Sniper Rifles are not included in this change.
  - ADS idle sway now consistently begins from the position of the player’s hipfire crosshair, rather than along the sway curve.

These changes ensure that players with fast reflexes and precise aim aren’t disadvantaged the moment they aim down sights.

Hipfire Crosshair Sway
- The trajectory of weapon bullets is represented by the hipfire crosshair position on the player’s screen. Previously, the crosshair was influenced by the direction of the weapon, causing the firing direction to deviate from the center of the screen. Today’s changes eliminate the resulting compromise to accuracy without sacrificing the weight and reactivity this motion added.
  - Hipfire crosshair will no longer sway from the center of the screen while the player moves or rotates the camera.
    - Note: We’re aware that certain Stock Attachments may re-introduce this behavior. This is unintentional, and we’ll correct these artifacts in future game updates.
  - Weapon bullet trajectory is now truly aligned with the hipfire crosshair, and thus, the center of the player’s screen.

These changes reward skillful aim. Simply put, where you’re aiming is where your bullets will go.

General Adjustments

Several perk descriptions have been updated for clarity.

The spacing of perks located on the HUD has been increased for more separation between them and the tac stance indicator.

Perk Adjustments

Flex Perk
- Revised audio levels while equipped.

Irradiated
- Will now reduce gas damage by 20%, up from 10%.
- Allows players to replace armor plates while in the gas.

With this change we aim to allow for an adjacent benefit while using Irradiated. Being able to plate in the gas will open rotation opportunities. To accompany the fact that plates will still degrade in the gas we increased the damage reduction slightly. This also helps to align the damage amount to be a smoother calculation for other systems.

Battle Hardened
- Will now show the “resist” icon for the killstreak owner when a player resists the Guardian.

Quick Fix
- Quick fix will now correctly begin regenerating health when the player inserts an armor plate.

Shrouded
- The deployed smoke grenade has a slight randomized offset so that it is not deployed directly on top of the player.

This minor change makes it slightly less predictable where the downed player is within the smoke.

- Following a related bug fix, players can expect the following damage values from claymores:

At launch, the Frag Grenade was incorrectly dealing very high damage across MWIII and Warzone. This created some problematic engagements in Battle Royale and was temporarily fixed in Season 1. With this update, we’ve properly branched the damage values so that Warzone uses its own tuning and we have increased its damage back up to a position that allows it to be effective. We will continue to adjust damage values across equipment to create more identity and desire to utilize them for different reasons.

Gas Mask
- Gas Mask health reduced to 100, down from 120.
- Durable Gas Mask health reduced to 200, down from 240.

This changes gas mask time to 10, and 20 seconds respectively. Ultimately increasing the threat of the gas, the value of the Irradiated Perk and also opens the door to some very useful interactions with the Decontamination Station coming in Season 2 Reloaded.

Fallout 76 Update 1.86 Rolled Out for Hotfix to Resolve FPS Issues and More This Feb. 7

Bethesda has fired out Fallout 76 update 1.86 on all platforms today, and this is a small download that resolves a few technical issues with the game following last week’s Burning Love title update. For what’s new, head on below for the FO76 new update changes this Feb. 7.

Fallout 76 Update 1.86 Patch Notes for Feb. 7, 2024:

Here’s the announcement from Bethesda (via the official Bethesda Discord channel):

“Hello all! Hotfix is now on all platforms – you should be prompted to download when you hop in-game next. This should fix the FPS issues, as well as players who were unable to play in Polish or Russian languages after the last patch.”

That’s about it for this title update. We’re not expecting anything major as this is a hotfix. If anything gameplay-related is changed that members of the community can vouch for, we’ll update the article with the info.

In other Bethesda news, rumors have surfaced regarding Starfield and the studio’s upcoming India Jones game, and that both are headed to the PS5. The smoke has gotten so foggy that Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced that they are about to hold an Xbox business update event next week to discuss its future.

Report – Activision Told Infinity Ward Devs to “Take the Money and Get Over” Studio’s Heads Firing

An ex-Infinity Ward developer sheds new light on the sudden firing of Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former heads of the studio back in 2009.

The success of the Call of Duty franchise is one that many can agree is due mainly to the success of the original Modern Warfare trilogy. While the series has always had great titles, none had previously managed to hit quite like the first Modern Warfare, which saw the series’ popularity and sales blow into the millions, and would forever change the landscape of not only the franchise but gaming in general. Infinity Ward were praised as pioneers at the time, with Jason West and Vince Zampella sitting at the top of it all, two names we know all too well today as they formed Respawn Entertainment.

But then came 2009, with the launch of the sequel, Modern Warfare 2 approaching fast, all seemed well, up until news broke that the two were unexpectedly fired. This came as a shock to the gaming world, and the stories that would soon come after would paint a grueling battle between the studio heads and their higher-ups at Activision. Despite all of this being publicly known, the story behind the firing was one that still had many questions left unanswered, and most likely will remain that way given the NDA’s and all that.

However, 15 years later, one ex-Infinity Ward developer, Paul Sandler, has finally opened up about the firing, giving us how things went down from another perspective.

“Jason and Vince just got fired!” Sandler heard from a small room he shared with another worker, thinking to himself, “What the fuck?…Why?”

As he breaks into details in a LinkedIn post, there was a collective feeling of anger and a deep sense of unfairness from fellow developers over the firing of their respected leaders. It was such a shock that nearly half the team was ready to quit. This prompted an emergency meeting with higher-ups from Activision to explain the situation and the whys. Most didn’t seem to care, and from Sandler’s recollection, they were ultimately offered money to get over it. He paraphrases what he can remember them saying.

“Guys, if you stay with the studio to make Modern Warfare 3, you will receive your MW2 bonuses. AND we will also give everyone a fifty percent salary increase”. He paused slightly before repeating: “That is a five and a zero, fifty percent”. The looks on peoples faces did not change. If anything, most of the team was feeling even more upset. The executive spoke again: “Look, I get it. I know this is a tough situation. But, just take the money and get over it.” I specifically remember him telling us to “Get over it.”

This led to 40 of the 100 employees at Infinity Ward quitting in the following days and weeks, though Sandler remained undecided, thinking of the legal battle that would come after that he teases for another story.

Sandler later says in the comments that the executives who said this were of the highest level and that despite the nasty situation they were all in, the show had to go on.

“We picked up the pieces and started to put things together. The show had to go on and the people who stayed were looking for new leaders to step up. We all did our best to keep the studio alive and functioning. Thanks for being a big part of that,” he said to another fellow dev, “It was a hell of a challenge at many points.”

Given all that is going on at Activision, with layoffs and sexual harassment lawsuits, we aren’t surprised that this is finally surfacing after all these years. Many former employees who worked at Activision and several Call of Duty studios have come out recently to discuss some of the bizarre and horrific treatment going on within the company.

We’re sure this won’t be the last we hear of this story and many more like it.
