  • Addresses background issue impacting activators in the world and an issue that is causing some players to be unable to join Expeditions since the update on December 5.
  • Disables Quest Objective to Loot Evidence from the Overgrown in the Tax Evasion Atlantic City Expedition (this is temporary and will be re-enabled in the next update planned for release on Jan. 30, 2024).

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Download Size and Pre-Load Time Revealed

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered download size and pre-load time have been revealed online. The game is comparable to its original size, even with a brand-new mode attached, but those who are excited will be able to pre-load an entire week ahead of launch.

This information comes from the PlayStation Game Size Twitter/X account, who posted it in a tweet you can see below:

According to the tweet, the game’s going to weigh in at around 76 GB. For comparison, the original version of the game was about 77 GB and change, so the overall file size is nearly identical. The Last of Us Part 1 on PS5 requires about 79 GB to download, so this game is even smaller than its predecessor.

Additionally, the tweet reveals that the game will be available for pre-load starting on January 12 at midnight local time. This means that those who are anxious to hop back into Ellie and Abby’s adventure can start preparing a week early, as the game launches on January 19. This will hopefully give gamers with a slower internet connection ample time to prepare.

We’re really interested to see the new roguelike mode, especially now that we know Naughty Dog was working on a Battle Royale mode in its cancelled multiplayer spin-off.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launches on PS5 on January 19, 2024.

Cancelled The Last of Us Online Menu Image Surfaces

Just yesterday, Naughty Dog shocked gamers by announcing that The Last of Us Online, a game focused on multiplayer, was officially cancelled. While it’s doubtful we’ll see gameplay of it, we do have a The Last of Us Online menu image to pore over.

This image was leaked by known insider DuskGolem over on the ResetEra forums. While the image doesn’t show gameplay, we do see that a Battle Pass was part of the plan, with seasonal challenges and content planned, as is the norm in most multiplayer games these days.

Maybe we’ll see actual gameplay or more info about it surface at some point? Given how Naughty Dog keeps most of these things close to the chest, I doubt that.

While The Last of Us Online is no more, there’s still The Last of Us Part II Remastered set for release early next year, with the big draw here is the “No Return” roguelike mode, which you can watch in action here.

GTA 6: Florida Joker Ups Demands and Claims “This Isn’t Like the Lindsey Lohan Case,” and Dresses as Leonida Joker

Last week, the “Florida Joker” made waves as he demanded Rockstar Games pony up $2 million given the Leonida Joker is clearly based on him. Well, it seems this guy didn’t get what he wanted, and is now upping the ante in order to get noticed.

Over on TikTok, Lawrence Sullivan (Florida Joker’s real name), made a video where he’s dressed the same as the Leonida Joker,  and states that since he is giving Rockstar free GTA 6 “marketing,” he is now seeking an additional $1 million on top of his original demand of $2 mil!

On top of that, Williams states situation isn’t the same as the Lindsey Lohan GTA 5 case, as he has evidence (or something), and states Rockstar has three days before his lawyers get involved.

I don’t know about you, but I assume Rockstar knows how many people will try and get money from them based on stuff like these, and I assume they’ve talked to their legal team on how to do this without getting sued.

Also, GTA 6 needs more marketing like the ocean needs more water. The franchise is probably the biggest in gaming, and is possibly the only gaming franchise Call of Duty will duck if they’re released near each other. Yes, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is that big.

Case in point, the reveal trailer for GTA 6 is now at a staggering 147 million views in less than 10 days since it was released. Can you imagine if this showed actual raw gameplay?

GTA 6 is set for release sometime in 2025 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version confirmed so far.

The Last of Us Multiplayer Game Canceled; Naughty Dog Wants to Continue Focusing on Single-Player Games

Bad news for The Last of Us fans, as Naughty Dog confirmed The Last of Us multiplayer game has been canceled, giving some reasons why they decided to stop development.

As announced in a blog post by Naughty Dog, the studio has stopped all development on the The Last of Us Multiplayer game. In what they described as being an “incredibly difficult decision,” the studio expresses that they’re crushed by this news as much as anyone else.

“We realize many of you have been anticipating news around the project that we’ve been calling The Last of Us Online. There’s no easy way to say this: We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to stop development on that game.

We know this news will be tough for many, especially our dedicated The Last of Us Factions community, who have been following our multiplayer ambitions ardently. We’re equally crushed at the studio as we were looking forward to putting it in your hands. We wanted to share with you some background of how we came to this decision.

The multiplayer team has been in pre-production with this game since we were working on The Last of Us Part II – crafting an experience we felt was unique and had tremendous potential. As the multiplayer team iterated on their concept for The Last of Us Online during this time, their vision crystalized, the gameplay got more refined and satisfying, and we were enthusiastic about the direction in which we were headed.”

However, despite the team being excited about the project, the decision to cancel the game boiled down to one thing, that being that the project would take all of the studio’s resources. That meaning that they’d have to focus on on supporting a live-service game for years, which wasn’t something the studio was known for.

“In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we’d have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.”

Back in May of 2023, Bloomberg reported that the team working on the project had been scaled back, with them reassessing the game. Last October, it was reported that The Last of Us Multiplayer was already put on “ice” as the studio was reportedly hit with layoffs. An update soon after arrived from the director of the project, assuring fans they were still working on it.

Today’s news has confirmed all that many had been speculating, but it still doesn’t make it easy to hear. While Naughty Dog is mainly known for its single-player games, it’s dabbled with multiplayer in nearly every project since Uncharted 2. The Last of Us Part 1 had an online mode, dubbed factions, that was well received by fans, and even us, where we rated it a 9/10 at the time of release.

The silver lining here is that the studio will continue doing what they do best: making narrative-driven single-player games that push the gaming envelope. We may have lost one project, but the team assures they have more ambitious ones in the works and can’t wait to share them when they’re ready.

In the meantime, studio fans can look forward to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which lands for the PS5 on January 19, 2024.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gets Exclusive PS5 Pre-Order Outfits; Here’s What They Look Like

A new trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has given us a peek at what the PS5 pre-order outfits look like. Dubbed the “Rogue Outfits,” these costumes for each of the four playable characters put a different twist on their usual garbs.

The trailer, which shows off the Squad’s new glamour, can be viewed here:

The outfits are sort of a different spin for each character. Captain Boomerang swaps out his trench coat and beanie for a shorter jacket, long scarf, and a cowboy hat. King Shark gets a Vietnam-era jacket and string of heavy-caliber bullets around his neck. Harley Quinn now dons a short-sleeved jacket with more vibrant blues and reds, and Deadshot’s armor covers more of his body and similarly bumps up the vibrance.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Rogue Outfits

As of right now, the Rogue Outfit pack is available exclusively to players who pre-order the PS5 digital edition. Those players will also receive the Classic Outfit pack, as will all who pre-order.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches on February 2, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Warframe Update Hotfix 35.0.2 Released This Dec. 14, Here’s What Got Changed

Digital Extremes has released Warframe update hotfix 35.0.2 this December 14, and this is a server-side patch that places in fixes for issues that came with the big Whispers in the Walls update released recently.

Warframe Hotfix 35.0.2 Patch Notes | Warframe Update 35.0.2 Patch Notes | Warframe New Update Patch Notes for Dec. 14:

Whispers in the Walls: Hotfix 35.0.2

Changes:

  • Reduced the Cavia Rank required to acquire the Helminth Coalescent Fusion Segment from 4 to 2.
    • This relates to Loid sending you an Inbox message upon reaching Rank 2 that the Segment is now available.
  • Temporarily replaced the “Kill X Dargyn Pilots before they hit the ground” Riven challenge with “Kill X Enemies with Headshots”.
    • There is a bug that prevents this challenge from gaining progress (as reported here), so we have replaced it while we continue to investigate.
  • Added motion blur to Ayatan Sculptures, a particularly depressed character, and the Necramite drone in the Sanctum Anatomica.
  • Added the Netracell rewards to the public Drop Tables.
    • The team is working on fixing other discrepancies such as missing Cavia Bounty tables, and Alchemy/Mirror Defense being listed incorrectly.
  • Improved visibility of the “Dissolve Arcanes” button in the Arcane Dissolution vendor screen in the Sanctum Anatomica.
  • Updated the Duviri Senate Seat Orbiter Decoration’s colors to differentiate it from the Dojo version, which has also been renamed to Duviri Slipper Chair.
  • Changed Mandonel’s crosshair to remove unnecessary charge bar and fix cases of flickering.
  • Reduced Cavia member collisions so players don’t bounce off of them.

Whispers in the Walls Quest Changes & Fixes:

  • Energy Orbs will now drop from enemies during the Arthur segment of the quest to let you cast his abilities more often!
  • Fixed players not receiving items from the quest (notably the Grimoire) if they encountered network issues at the point they’d be delivered to their accounts.
  • Fixed mission failing in the first stage of the quest.
    • The quest would progress but players would see “Mission Failure” and not receive the items they had collected during the mission.
  • Fixed cases where hair and cloth would pop in the quest cinematics.
  • Fixed the objective marker pointing to the Netracall during the quest being duplicated.
  • Fixed cases where the waypoint markers for the Necramite Drones wouldn’t appear during the Netracell stage of the quest.
  • Fixed being able to sell the Grimoire to prevent progression issues in the quest.
    • If you have sold the Grimoire and are unable to progress in the quest, please create a ticket with our Support Team.
  • Fixed being able to interact with the Grimoire as Sevagoth’s Shadow during a pivotal fight of the quest.
  • Fixed certain VFX not appearing for Drifter during finale of quest.
  • Fixed the door to Laboratory Navigation in the Sanctum Anatomica opening when it should be locked during certain stages of the quest. This was causing confusion since players would hear it opening but the door before leading to it was locked.
  • Fixed a certain gate not being locked in the quest if you got there too early.
  • Fixed a rare script error related to a camera in the Sanctum Anatomica during the quest.
  • Fixed a several script errors in the quest.
  • Fixed your companion’s icon showing up in the HUD during the 1999 section of the Whispers in the Walls Quest.
  • Fixed players becoming permanently slowed if they were Operator/Drifter during a certain segment of the first mission in the quest.
  • Fixed players being able to extract early from a certain quest mission without completing the objective (and missing out on some cool cutscenes, if we do say so ourselves).

Netracell Changes & Fixes:

  • Necramite drones in the Netracell missions now have Health Bars to better identify them as the ones needing to be destroyed.
  • Added an additional react sound effect to the Necramite Drones in the Netracell missions when they are hit.
  • Added a UI sound for when the Netracell is ready to be opened.
  • Fixed teleporting into the Netracell after clipping through the map at a certain location. It will now teleport players to the waypoint outside of the Netracell.
  • Fixed the Necratite Drones that need to be destroyed in Netracell missions rarely having their pulsing blue VFX. Now that this has been fixed, you should be able to identify them for destruction better!
  • Fixed the hacking progress bar in Netracell missions momentarily resetting after Host Migration.
  • Fixed a script error when Host Migrating after hacking terminal during a Netracell mission.

Cavia Bounties Changes & Fixes:

Cavia Bounties offer new challenges to complete, but sometimes the tiles generated for the mission prevented players from progressing, or players otherwise had issues completing them. As a result, we have either removed or fixed the following challenges to help improve Bounty flow!

  • Temporarily removed the “Kill X Rogue Necramechs” Bounty challenge.
    • There is an issue with Rogue Necramechs not always spawning that we are still investigating, so we have removed this challenge for the time being since it is difficult to complete while this bug is active.
  • Temporarily removed “Kill X Flying Murmurs” challenges from Cavia Bounty rotations as only one flying Murmur enemy type was counting as progress towards it.
    • We aim to re-add this challenge once we’re able to fix the issue.
  • Temporarily removed the “Summon Necramech” challenge from Cavia Bounty rotations as players were unable to consistently complete them.
    • We aim to re-add this challenge once we’re able to fix the issue.
  • Fixed not enough Murmur Sarcophages spawning in the Mirror Defense (Munio, Deimos) mission to complete the “Find X Murmur Sarcophages” Bounty challenge.

  • Removed the “Douse enemies in Vitriol” Bounty challenge from the Exterminate (Nex, Deimos) and Assassination (Effervo, Deimos) missions.

  • Improved the way the Auto Breach Parazon Mod interacts with the new hacking terminals to make it clearer that had been used.
  • Improved waypoint pathfinding in Albrecht’s Laboratories missions.
  • Fixed Entrati Obols falling through the map.
  • Fixed rewards earned during the Alchemy (Cambire, Deimos) not appearing in the mission progress screen.
  • Fixed the reward pop-up after completing a round of Survival on Persto, Deimos not occurring. Also fixed the rewards not appearing in the End of Mission screen after extracting.
  • Fixed Alchemy Crucible progress in the UI resetting and not tracking properly after Host Migration.
  • Fixed multiple Crucibles appearing after Host Migrations in Alchemy missions.
  • Fixed the ground rifts that Fragmented enemies crawl out from not appearing in non-quest Albrecht Laboratories’ missions while the quest is active.
  • Fixed the explosion preview VFX for the Vitriol Phials not appearing in Albrecht’s Laboratories if the mission was started as a Bounty or from the Laboratory Navigation.
    • This is a new feature that was released with Update 35 that allows you to see the explosion radius by hovering your reticle over the explosive item!
  • Fixed rare care of tileset issues occurring (lighting and map holes) when transitioning between defense targets in the Mirror Defense (Munio, Deimos) mission.
  • Fixed a script error in Assassination mission (Effervo, Deimos).
  • Fixed several script errors from abilities cast by a certain bookbound enemy.
  • Fixed the bookbound enemy’s avatar lingering after death.
  • Fixed several script errors when extracting from Albrecht’s Laboratories missions.
  • Fixed a map hole in the tileset.
  • Fixed various minor map holes and a spot where players could get stuck in Albrecht’s Laboratories tileset.
  • Fixed a crash in the missions.

Optimizations:

  • Made systemic micro-optimizations to DirectX 12 memory usage.

General Fixes:

  • Fixed the Tyana Pass, Mars Mirror Defense mission not starting after entering the defense target’s radius.
  • Fixed the Update Highlights screen using the previous update instead of the latest.
    • If you’d like to read through the previous updates in that screen there is a “Update History” button!
  • Fixed player’s Warframe casting a “shadow” over the Update Screen windows, resulting in players being unable to read the text.
  • Fixed Cavia members saying the wrong voice lines if players were Rank 0 in the Syndicate.
  • Fixed lighting issue in Qorvex’s in-game Market diorama.
  • Fixed Sevagoth’s energy VFX in the diorama for Sevagoth’s Glaukus Collection appearing black instead of the default white.
  • Fixed Albrecht’s Notes Fragments not showing up in the order they are unlocked in the Codex.
  • Fixed Wisp not having her custom running animation when using the Grimoire.
  • Fixed weapons going invisible after deploying Heavy Archgun in open zones.
  • Fixed being unable to interact with the Duviri Torch Flame Dojo Decoration after placing it.
    • Also fixed its capacity cost being 1 instead of the intended 20.
  • Fixed several offset issues with Sevagoth’s Glaukus Skin.
  • More fixes to come!
  • Fixed the launcher playing Duviri’s OST instead of the Whispers in the Walls.
  • Fixed several script errors from a particular machine in the Sanctum Anatomica.
  • Fixed a script error when selecting a Warframe in the Arsenal.
  • Fixed a script error in Qorvex’s Chyrinka Pillar ability.

Embracer Hits 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks With Layoffs

Just three days after the confirmation of Free Radical’s studio closure, Embracer is yet again making more cuts as layoffs have been confirmed at both 3D Realms and Slipgate.

Scott Miller, the original founder of Apogee Software, Ltd., which is known today as 3D Realms, took to X to confirm the news of layoffs hitting both 3D Realms and Slipgate.

Several sources have told me this bad news… Sorry to hear about another drop of the axe by Embracer Group, this time landing on Danish 3D Realms. A lot of people, including core devs, will be looking for work asap. Hopefully, they land jobs soon. This one hits me hard because I worked with the new 3DR from 2014 up until when they were bought out by Embracer 2.5 yrs ago.”

In a follow-up, he states that about half of the employees at each studio have been laid off.

While these are from unnamed sources, Miller’s credentials of being a founder likely mean he still has connections at the studio. That, and 3D Realms Lead Level Designer also took to X to confirm the news, with him being a part of the layoffs.

Another confirming their status at the studio.

This year has been a very bad year for the gaming industry in general, as countless studios have been hit with layoffs and closures. Embracer Group especially has been more in the spotlight, as they’ve closed down numerous studios, canceled several projects, and laid off nearly 1000 employees this year alone. This likely isn’t the last of it either.

Heartbreaking, especially with it being a little over 10 days before Christmas when so many need the extra income. Our hearts go out to all the developers affected by this, and previous layoffs. Let us pray that no studios are impacted before the New Year, though unfortunately, we don’t anticipate this being the last layoff we hear from Embracer.

A24 Partners With Kojima Productions to Create Death Stranding Movie

A24 has officially announced today that it is partnering with Kojima Productions to create a Death Stranding movie. The announcement was leaked via a Death Stranding t-shirt on A24’s merch website before they announced it publicly.

According to the official announcement on the Kojima Productions website, the film will “delve into the mysteries” surrounding the Death Stranding event that brings on the apocalypse in Kojima’s game. The news arrives ahead of Kojima Productions’ 8th anniversary on December 16.

Hideo Kojima also made a statement about the adaptation:

A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years.

Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of “game adaptation films” out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.

As of now, there’s been no word of who will be screenwriting or directing the film. The cast has also not yet been announced, though we imagine a good portion of the original Death Stranding cast will reprise their roles given how their characters had their likenesses. As long as Norman Reedus returns to be Sam Porter Bridges, we’ll be happy.

This is Kojima’s second big announcement in the past week. To read about his announcement of his upcoming horror project, OD, click here.
