Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Announced; Will Feature Rollback Netcode and Crossplay

A new Granblue Fantasy game has just been announced, and it’s the sequel to the fighting game Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Titled “Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising,” it’s set to introduce new characters, a new story, and rollback netcode.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is set to launch this 2023 on PS4, PS5, and PC. You can check out the reveal trailer below.

The trailer mentions that the game will support crossplay between all three platforms, though we’re not sure if this will be implemented on launch. Guilty Gear Strive, another popular fighting game, is still set to run a beta test for its own crossplay functionality on February 3. It’s worth mentioning here that both GGST and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising are both being developed by Arc System Works.

One interesting feature that’s coming to Rising is the fleshed-out lobby system. It allows players to interact with one another and unwind between games. There’s even an all-new game mode that you can try out called “Grand Bruise Legends,” a battle royale mode with “plenty of action-packed mini games.” Here’s a glimpse of what that looks like:

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will be a separate game, with the original Versus title receiving its final update on January 24. This may come as a disappointment to some players, as the game was released less than three years ago on February 6, 2020.

Once get more information on Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, we’ll let you know.

Dead Cells Return to Castlevania Teaser Trailer Now Out, Features Bits of Gameplay Footage

A new Dead Cells Return to Castlevania teaser trailer has just been released! This trailer shows off a bit of gameplay footage from the Dead Cells crossover expansion, with The Beheaded traversing across the dark lord’s manor.

The expansion was first announced during The Game Awards last year. As it’s a teaser trailer, there’s not much to work with, but we do get to see what some of the new areas look like.

Deadly werewolves, haunted armors and food stuffed into the walls – oh my. The unprecedented collaborative crossover adventure Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania from Motion Twin and Evil Empire will be available for fans dreadfully soon across PC and consoles, but for now fans can sink their teeth into a fresh teaser trailer channeling the classic Castlevania games today for the anticipated DLC.

The expansion is set to include two new biomes and 14 new weapons, adding more tools to play with and more variety with every run. Weapons will include iconic names from Castlevania, including Vampire Killer, Throwing Axe, and Holy Water. Return to Castlevania is set to be Dead Cells’ biggest expansion yet, so if you enjoyed the game’s previous DLCs, then you’re likely in for a treat.

Dead Cells is currently available on many platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and of course, PC.

Marvel’s Avengers Support to End This September, Final Patch Coming in March

It looks like the rumors were true, Crystal Dynamics will be ceasing Marvel’s Avengers support later this year! An official announcement was made today mere hours after a rumor surfaced stating that Crystal Dynamics would be ceasing support for the game, as the studio’s developers will be shifting to work on the next untitled Tomb Raider game.

Marve’s Avengers Support Ending FAQ and Details:

The game’s final patch tagged as version 2.8 will be released this March 31, 2023, which will be the last title update that brings any new features or content for the game. After that, all official support for Marvel’s Avengers will cease on September 30, 2023.

Thankfully, even with the support ceasing, both single-player and multiplayer will continue to be playable. Patch 2.7, which introduced the Winter Soldier to the game, will be the final character released. There will be no new cosmetics planned for the Marketplace, and all final balance updates will be released in March as part of update 2.8.

The tiny bit of good news? Starting March 31, 2023, Crystal Dynamics will be making all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card, Shipment cosmetic content available to all players for free. Every Outfit, Takedown, emote, nameplate from the Marketplace, and Challenge Cards and Shipments will be free to all players from the March date onwards as long as they own a copy of the game.

As for the Credits and economy, check out the table below as well as the official announcement from the studio.

Along with the end of development, we’ll also be turning off the cosmetics Marketplace. When Update 2.8 launches on March 31, 2023, Credits will no longer be purchasable and all remaining Credit balances will be converted into in-game resources to aid ongoing adventures. Here is a table with the resources that will be granted based on existing Credit balances:

Credits conversion table

Finally, an FAQ regarding this announcement was published as well.

Who made the decision to end support for the game?

The decision was made in conjunction with our partners that now was the right time to make this change.

When will support for Marvel’s Avengers end?

Support will discontinue on September 30, 2023.

Will I still be able to play the game solo?

Yes. All content that is available for solo play will continue to be available after September 30, 2023.

Will I still be able to play with my friends?

Yes. Multiplayer will still be accessible after support discontinues on September 30, 2023.  Multiplayer will continue to require Xbox Live Gold on Xbox platforms and PS Plus on PlayStation platforms.

Will single- and multi-player play be available forever?

The changes we are making to how the game functions will ensure as long a life as possible. However, after September 30, 2023 we can’t guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen circumstances.

What happens between now and September 30, 2023?

The game will continue to run as it has until March 31, 2023. At that time, Update 2.8 will launch with the game’s final balance changes and all Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetics will be made available to all players for free.

What happens when Update 2.8 goes live?

On March 31, 2023 with Update 2.8, we will give all players access to all Marketplace cosmetics, including every Outfit, Takedown, and Nameplate that were previously purchasable with Credits. In addition, all cosmetic items previously earnable through Hero Challenge Cards and Shipments will also be made available to all players.

Will I still be able to buy the game after March 31, 2023?

Yes. The game will remain available for purchase digitally between March 31, 2023 and September 30, 2023 and at retail while supplies last. No new digital purchases of the game will be available after September 30, 2023.

If I buy a pre-owned copy of the game on disc after September 30, 2023, do I get all the free cosmetics?

Yes, everyone who owns the game will get access to the same suite of free cosmetics.

If I delete my digital version of the game, can I reinstall it after September 30, 2023?

Yes, if you own the game before September 30, 2023, you will be able to reinstall it after that date. However, as noted above, after September 30, 2023 we can’t guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen circumstances.

Why are you giving all the Marketplace content away for free?

We wanted to show all our players how much we’ve appreciated their support over the past few years. Gifting the full library of marketplace content is a way to thank our community by letting them experience the breadth of content in Marvel’s Avengers.

Will events like the Red Room Takeover still run after tomorrow and September 30, 2023?

Yes, they will run in a rotation every two weeks.

Will any new stories, features or Heroes be added to the game after Update 2.8?

No new stories, features or Heroes will be added to the game, and our final balance update will occur with Update 2.8 in March.

Will there be any additional bug fixes after Update 2.8?

We may deploy bugfix patches after Update 2.8 and before September 30, 2023 if needed, however we can’t guarantee that we will be able to make any changes after the end of our support for the game.

After September 30, 2023, if something happens like my save game gets corrupted, who do I contact?

After September 30, 2023, we will no longer provide support for Marvel’s Avengers.

What support will be discontinued?

After September 30, 2023, we will no longer add new content or provide customer support for the game. In addition, Marvel’s Avengers will no longer be available for purchase.

What about Outfits that are earned in game through Missions or Challenge Cards?

Cosmetic items will still be earnable via the cosmetic vendor, mission rewards, and patterns. All other cosmetics will be granted to players for free.

Is anything happening to the cosmetic vendor?

No, the cosmetic vendor will remain.

Are refunds available for Credits purchases?

This announcement does not alter any standard refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which you purchased credits; we are not offering special refunds as a result of closing the Marketplace.

Will Spider-Man remain a PlayStation exclusive?

Spider-Man will remain exclusive to PlayStation.

Will Shipments still be active?

No, the Shipments system will be deactivated and all cosmetics available through the Shipment system will be granted to all players starting in March after Update 2.8.

Will Marvel’s Avengers continue to be available on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra?

Marvel’s Avengers is available on both, and all the changes discussed in this blog will apply to the Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra versions of the game as well. For any updates, stay tuned to Xbox and PlayStation social channels.

While Marvel’s Avengers had its flaws, there was still a lot of fun to be had in it. It sadly didn’t live up to expectations, and there was a lot of questionable design decisions that weren’t fixed until it was too late. If you’re curious what we thought of it when it launched, go read our review here.

Overwatch 2 Competitive Mode Changes to Be Revealed Soon, Won’t Revert to Overwatch 1’s Model

One of the many things that changed in Overwatch 2 from the original game was its ranked system, and as you may expect from a competitive game, not everybody’s happy with it. A recent tweet reveals that there will be a blog post on Overwatch 2 Competitive Mode changes coming fairly soon, but it won’t involve the system returning to its original Overwatch 1 design.

The blog post announcement was made by OW2 Executive Producer Jared Neuss in a reply to a tweet that criticized the game’s matchmaking system.

Overwatch 2 devs have been quite open about feedback and conversation regarding the game’s updates and direction over on Twitter. Neuss also revealed earlier this month that the game would receive updates in Season 3 that addressed the lack of rewards. Another Twitter conversation with Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson mentioned that the game would release more support heroes in the near future. This statement would later be reaffirmed in an interview with Aaron Keller, the game’s director, who mentioned that the next two heroes would be Supports.

We don’t know the specifics regarding Overwatch 2’s Competitive Mode and ranked system updates, but once we learn more, we’ll let you know.

Overwatch 2 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Evil Dead: The Game New Survivor Announced, “Ruby” Set for Release on Feb. 2

Evil Dead: The Game will introduce a new playable survivor on February 2, and it’s Ruby Knowby, a former Dark One. A popular character from the Evil Dead franchise, she makes use of her Dark One origins in-game to take down enemies.

Ruby’s reveal was announced via a tweet that also gives us glimpses of gameplay footage. She’ll likely be added to the game during a patch on February 2, and we’ll keep you posted when it drops.

For those who aren’t familiar with Ruby, she was the main antagonist of the Ash vs. Evil Dead series. This is worth noting as an Ash vs. Evil Dead DLC was announced last December. Players will only need to wait a couple of weeks before they can try out Ruby in-game.

Evil Dead: The Game is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Epic Games. Check out our review of the game on the PS5, where we gave it a 6/10 score. Here’s our verdict: “It’s ultimately more fun with friends, but only really if they’re also into Evil Dead as a franchise. And even then, references and nostalgia can only get you so far. Ultimately, Evil Dead the Game can be improved by patches and I’ll be happy to return to it when it is improved. As for now, I’ll stick with my film collection for my Evil Dead fix.”

Halo Infinite Free Event Pass Announced for Jan. 17; Will Feature JFO-Class Armor

Halo Infinite players are in for a treat starting January 17. A free event pass has been announced for the sci-fi FPS title, with the pass being available to upgrade and earn from until the end of the month on the 31st.

One of the highlights of this free pass is JFO-Class armor, a fan favorite among those who’ve played throughout the franchise’s history.

With the pass only being 10 tiers in size, it’s not as huge as the game’s regular battle passes, though you only have a couple of weeks to earn the rewards. Unlike battle passes, event passes such as this one don’t actually stay around after the event ends, so you’ve got a limited time to claim as much as you can.

Halo Infinite is currently available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. If you’re looking to try out the shooter on your PC, check out our PC review of the game. We gave the game an 8.5/10, with this verdict: “All in all, Halo Infinite is a worthy entry to this legendary franchise. That is an achievement by itself. But what I really appreciated is the fact that 343 took risks. These risks are things that could have completely soured the experience and turned away even the most diehard fans of the franchise. In the end though, those risks paid off. Infinite is in my opinion, 343’s best Halo title yet, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it goes from here.”

Report: Marvel’s Avengers to Cease Updates and Development as Devs Work on New Tomb Raider Game

Crystal Dynamics is finally pulling the plug on Marvel’s Avengers if a recent rumor is to be believed. The live service Marvel game didn’t take off as well as a lot of people hoped it would, with publisher Square Enix confirming it underperformed sales-wise.

According to a new report by reliable Marvel insider Miller, Crystal Dynamics is said to have reallocated its remaining devs to focus on an upcoming Tomb Raider game. As a result, Marvel’s Avengers is set to sunset sometime this year, with reports mentioning that development of the game will stop as early as next week. It will still receive a few updates, such as an upgrade to the game’s player traversal system and the removal of time gating, but other than that, it looks like the game’s being put down.

As Marvel’s Avengers wasn’t a huge success by any means, one can only hope that the upcoming Tomb Raider game will showcase the true talents of Crystal Dynamics when not held back by what former devs claimed as “inept studio management and Marvel Games bureaucracy.”

If this rumor is true, then this means that The Winter Soldier will be the last free hero released for the game. Same as with any rumor, treat this one with a grain of salt until announcements are made by Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Patch “At the Final Stages” According to CD Projekt RED Staff

While The Witcher 3 next-gen update promised better graphics and performance across all supported platforms, the PC version of the update seems to have quite a few issues. Fortunately, it looks like a “The Witcher 3” next-gen update patch is on the way, and should hopefully get rid of the major problems surrounding the new update.

A tweet from CD Projekt RED Global Community Director Marcin Momot reveals that the update is “at the final stages.” It’s worth noting that Momot didn’t actually mention the patch was for the PC version only, so it’s possible that this update may launch on other platforms, too.

The tweet didn’t really give an exact timeline for the announcement or the update itself, but Momot assures that it “shouldn’t be long until it comes out.” Until then, players will either have to play with the issues still present or wait until the patch hopefully fixes everything major.

While the PC version of The Witcher 3 is a little rough around the edges, it runs really well on consoles, especially on the PS5. In our PS5 review of the next-gen version of the game, we gave it a perfect 10/10 score. Here’s the entire verdict:

One of the best role-playing games of the last generation and one of my all-time favorite games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update/port makes what many considered to be a perfect game even better. For the new players, they’ll be able to experience what exactly all the talk has been about, only in a vastly superior, definitive version of the game. As for the old players, this update gives you the perfect excuse to invest hundreds, if not thousands, of hours once more.

The Witcher 3 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The next-gen update launched on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC last year.

Jagged Alliance 3 Legacy Trailer Discusses Game’s Faithfulness to Franchise

Haemimont Games and THQ Nordic have released the Jagged Alliance 3 “Legacy” Trailer. The trailer discusses the developers’ desire to create a new Jagged Alliance title with improved mechanics and gameplay, while remaining familiar to fans of the legendary turn-based game series. Haemimont Games accomplished this by bringing on series co-creator and designer Ian Currie to help with writing, narrative, and the development of the in-game universe.

Watch the Jagged Alliance 3 Legacy trailer below:

Jagged Alliance is a series of turn-based tactics video games; the first installment was released in 1995 on the MS-DOS, followed by Jagged Alliance 2 in 1999. While the series performed well commercially, a third full-fledged installment remained in development hell until THQ Nordic acquired the IP in 2015 and announced Jagged Alliance 3 in 2021.

Helmed by Haemimont Games of Tropico fame, a core focus of the Jagged Alliance 3 development process is to ensure authenticity with the legacy of the franchise. The developer recruited series co-creator and designer Ian Currie to shape and supervise the writing, story, and dialogue of the game. In turn, Currie recruited veteran writer and former colleague Dan McClure, came up with numerous ideas for quests and returning Mercs, and revamped the series’ conversation system:

One of my favorite features of the game is the conversation system – the part of the game that allows players to interact with various NPCs (non-player characters) in the world. In Jagged Alliance 2, this feature was very limited – you could only choose a general ‘approach’ (e.g. friendly, direct, threatening).
Jagged Alliance 3 introduces a robust conversation system that allows for a much more engaging role-playing experience and will often include participation from some of your mercs. This can range from simple comments to more helpful observations and plays out differently depending on the situation, adding to the game’s replay-ability. We iterated on the design until we were all happy with it and seeing it all come together was immensely satisfying. I’m very proud of what we’ve done here as it allows for so much more interaction between the player, the NPCs and the mercs, and allows us to tell a much deeper story than in any previous Jagged Alliance game.

Jagged Alliance 3 is currently under development for a PC release later in 2023. Check out the game’s gameplay showcase trailer from 2021, featuring an overview of its key mechanics as well as an incredible look at its visually-stunning environments.

Global Issues:

  • [All Platforms] The Heavy Chopper has been disabled in Battle Royale while we investigate options to balance this vehicle for late game.
  • [All Platforms] High Alert Perk: We’re investigating an issue with the High Alert Perk causing the user’s screen to not pulse when in view of an enemy.
  • [All Platforms] Battle Rage & Dead Silence: Battle Rage and Dead Silence have been removed while we investigate an issue.
  • [All Platforms] Disabled Equipment XP: We’ve disabled XP earned for using the following items in Battle Royale – Flash Grenade, Stun Grenade, Stim, Shock Stick, Smoke Grenade, Suppression Mine
  • [All Platforms] Stuck Nuke: We’re investigating an issue causing Players to get stuck when attempting to activate the Nuke.
  • [All Platforms] Airstrike Killstreak: We’re investigating an issue where attempting to use the Airstrike Killstreak just as the Player finishes Reloading, the HUD will disappear.
  • [All Platforms] Gulag Respawn: We’re investigating an issue causing squad members returning from the Gulag to respawn further away from one another than intended.
  • [All Platforms] Most Wanted: We have disabled the Most Wanted Contract until further notice while we investigate an issue.
  • [All Platforms] Inconsistent AAR: We’re investigating an issue that is preventing the After Action Report from consistently appearing for Players. This does not impact XP gains.

Multiplayer Known Issues:

Ticket created, fix coming in future update:

  • We’re aware of an issue where some Players are prevented from matchmaking in the Ground War Playlist.
  • We’re aware of an issue where changing attachments mid kill cam can affect framerate.

  • We’re aware of a bug with the Spotter Scope that makes pings on an enemy permanent.
  • We’re aware of a bug allowing Players to persist past the game ending when using a Self Revive.
  • We’ve disabled the Restock Public Event while we investigate an issue causing loot dropped by Players to disappear.
  • We’re aware of an issue where loadout and equipped items do not load into a match with a player but are back on-soldier after the match.
  • We’re aware of an issue where insured weapons are not equipping when loading into a match.
  • We’re aware of a Tac Map bug in Building 21.
  • We’re aware of an issue that kicks some party members after a successful exfil.

Gunsmith Known Issues:

  • We are investigating an issue where some players cannot acquire additional camos in Gold, Platinum and Polyatomic tiers if they have already acquired enough camos to unlock the next tier. For example, if you have 51 Platinum camos, you are unable to earn additional Platinum camos because 51 is the number you need to unlock Polyatomic.

Once the official patch notes have been released, we’ll be sure to let our readers know

Update: The complete patch notes for today’s update is now out and the article has been updated.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards and Map This Week January 20, 2023

For those seeking the latest rewards in Destiny 2’s weekly PvP mode, MP1st is here to bring you the new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week January 20, 2023 edition!

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week January 20, 2023:

Trials of Osiris Map

Wormhaven

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: Burden of Guilt (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards

Rumor: 343 Industries Scrapping Halo Infinite Campaign DLCs After Losing 1/3 of Workforce

Matters have worsened for the Halo franchise’s future. According to a rumor, 343 Industries (343i) is scrapping Halo Infinite’s planned campaign DLCs and transitioning altogether to a supervisory “franchise coordinator” role, after having lost a third of its workforce during the recent layoffs. 343i’s roadmap for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer content in 2023 will reportedly remain unchanged.

343i has been experiencing significant leadership difficulties ever since the troubled launch of Halo Infinite. Last year, studio head Bonnie Ross announced her departure from the company ahead of the release of the Winter Update, leading to parent company Microsoft restructuring her role into three separate positions. In December, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer creative director Tom French left the company, and Head of Creative Joseph Staten has reportedly also made an exit as of yesterday.

The rumor, if true, puts a nail in Halo Infinite’s coffin: 343i has now lost a third of its workforce, including both internal staff and contractors. Long-term plans for Halo Infinite campaign DLCs were scrapped by studio lead Pierre Hintz after a cost-benefit analysis, which is stated as the likely reason for Staten’s exit.

Under Hintz, 343i will reportedly be focusing on supporting Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode (which is already outsourced to Certain Affinity, Spearsoft, and other studios for the most part) while transitioning to a “franchise coordinator” role. This change of direction has reportedly been in motion since 2020, with 343i (along with Microsoft Game Publishing) contracting mutliple external studios to create “future Halo experiences.”

Despite reports of deprecation in favor of the Unreal Engine Halo Infinite’s Slipspace engine is still in place according to the rumor, and will be opened up to external studios working with the IP should they choose to use it. The game’s multiplayer plans for 2023 (the rumored Project Tatanka, Forge, and new seasons and maps) will remain unchanged.

What do you think of the Halo franchise’s new direction? Let us know in the comments below.
