Overwatch 2 Roadmap Revealed, Beta Sign-Ups Now Up

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed load of Overwatch 2 stuff today, in the game’s reveal digital event, and we have the important details available now. First off, the Overwatch 2 roadmap has been revealed for what’s incoming from October 4 and beyond.

Overwatch 2 Roadmap:

A free-to-play, live experience
Making Overwatch 2 free-to play is a natural step forward for our game and our players. Overwatch, even since its debut, has always been a social game, and our community has always had the most fun when we come together. Free-to-play removes the barrier to entry, allowing anyone, anywhere can jump into the game, group up with friends, or find people to play with online. Along with this shift to free-to-play, we’ll be adding cross –progression, enabling everyone to play, progress, and access their unlocked content seamlessly across all game platforms.

There will be no Loot Boxes in Overwatch 2. Instead, the modernized live service will give our players the power to shape their own experiences. Players can acquire the items they want directly through the Battle Pass and an all-new and consistently updated in-game shop. Our team will create and deliver seasonal content every nine weeks to ensure there’s always something fresh and exciting waiting for everyone.

Roadmap and seasons
On the roadmap below, you can find our short-term plans for Season One and Season Two, as well as our long-term goals to grow and develop the game into 2023 and beyond. Players can expect to see a new hero every other season, with elements like new maps and game modes in the seasons between.

Season One will feature Sojourn, Junker Queen, and an unannounced support hero, as well as the new 5v5 PvP experience, reworked heroes, new maps and modes, and more. We’re also releasing a reimagined competitive experience that was created to give players more tools to improve gameplay and feel a sense of progression in competitive play. Players will have more of an impact on individual matches with the shift to 5v5, and there will be additional systems in place to help you discern your contributions per match. More details on the competitive overhaul will be shared soon!

Season Two will introduce a new tank hero, map, and a collection of unique skins, including a new Mythic skin. As we move into 2023, we‘ll move the story of Overwatch forward with the release of our new PvE gameplay which will release seasonably beginning next year, along with more new heroes, maps, and game modes. We can’t wait to share more information closer to release!

Interested players can sign up to the beta right here, though there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to get in if you sign up. Don’t forget, the PvP of Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play when it releases this October 4

You can rewatch the event in the VOD embedded below.

WARZONE OVERVIEW

  • New Map: Fortune’s Keep. Go all-in on a brand-new Warzone Resurgence Battle Royale map developed by High Moon Studios, featuring stunning vistas and undiscovered riches.
  • Caldera Updates Across the Island. From the return of Storage Town to riverbeds drying up, Raven Software is changing up Caldera.
  • Armored SUV, New Contract, and More. New tools, objectives, and feature updates to Warzone will add new strategies to consider for your squad’s personal meta.
  • Three Warzone Maps to Drop Into: Fortune’s Keep, Rebirth Island, and Caldera coexist, all for free via regular weekly playlist rotation.

New Warzone Resurgence Map: Fortune’s Keep

Prepare for the ultimate score: fight fellow Operators and mercenaries on a luxurious and timeless island, where the amount of danger and action is second only to its riches.

A mercenary hideout built atop an otherwise peaceful town with a rich history, Fortune’s Keep is a completely original Resurgence map created by High Moon Studios. It is roughly the same size as Rebirth Island and features four distinct points of interest:

Town

Inspired by colorful Mediterranean villages, this seaside community is littered with cobblestone alleyways and flat rooftops to traverse across. An old fortress sits in the town’s center, inviting Operators in for intense combat with its bell tower that commands this section of the map.

Other notable sections include a coastal path with a gazebo, and a Graveyard that seems to have been grave-robbed multiple times over.

Smuggler’s Cove

Legend has it that pirates from centuries ago used this island to hide their treasures. True to its name, Smuggler’s Cove is loaded with supplies, including Gas Masks that could be helpful in case of a Circle Collapse.

Be prepared to explore the twisting Sea Caves, Grottos that see sunlight shine through massive holes in the earth, a small collection of fishing huts, and a lighthouse.

Keep

The island’s namesake, the Keep is a medieval fortress now converted into the mercenary’s headquarters and hideout.

Walk on the ramparts and take to the watchtowers to defend the area from invaders, but know that they can also easily fly over the walls using nearby Redeploy Balloons or sneak into the area using the island’s tunnel system.

Winery

A laidback complex inspired by traditional three-lane maps, the Winery serves up plenty of scavenging opportunities and intrigue.

Head to the Cellar to stock up on supplies, or travel over to the nearby Camp that contains a helipad and multiple military tents.

Those looking for a more secluded start may want to drop in at the Bay, which has routes over to the Winery proper and the Keep.

New In-Game Features, First on Fortune’s Keep: Black Market Supply Run Contract, Cash Extraction Event

Fortune’s Keep, a new home for Resurgence Battle Royale matches, will have two major features that could define the most effective tactics available (meta) for victory.

Black Market Run Contract

Get your hands on off-market loot by accepting the new Black Market Run Contract, challenging you to reach the Black Market Buy Station before the timer expires.

Spend Cash on items not available at normal Buy Stations or as ground loot such as the Sequencer Grenade, the Nebula V Minigun, Foresight, a Specialist Bonus, or one of several classified weapons.

Cash Extraction

During Resurgence Battle Royale matches, straggling mercenaries will attempt to airlift their Cash off Fortune’s Keep.

You and your squad can ambush the extraction – just follow the flare signal and take out the agents to get at their bag of goods, but be on the lookout for enemy Operators also looking to steal these mercenary’s riches.

New Caldera POI – Storage Town

Raven Software is bringing back a memorable piece of Warzone history as part of a large overhaul of the main Caldera map.

Storage Town, the area that helped define nearly two years of Warzone in Verdansk, will see a new life on Caldera when it is added in between the Mines, Airfield, Village, and Dig Site.

It will be roughly as veterans remember it: a sprawling complex of lockers filled with Contracts and item spawns, as well as a few warehouses that allow for great views over the area.

However, as part of Caldera, Storage Town will be near steep cliffs in the middle of the island. This additional verticality will add a twist to this fan-favorite point of interest, making it a more viable rotation point when travelling between the map’s western section.

Caldera General Update, New Features

A severe drought hit Caldera, causing rivers to dry up as mercenary forces add camps around the island. There are also new items and a vehicle coming to Caldera first, which should shake up modes like Plunder.

Over a Dozen Point of Interest Changes

Once this update launches, expect cleared sightlines across numerous areas on the island, partially due to small camps cropping up from outside the Resort to the Runway.

Additional pathways, including scaffolding across multiple Capital Buildings and steps near the Gondola Station, will be opened up to allow for more movement options around the island.

Around Caldera, rumors of Mercenary Vaults are beginning to crop up – expect to find these scattered around the island.

Ready for a deep dive into Fortune’s Keep and Caldera? Come back to the blog next week for a guide to both maps!

Armored SUV (In-Season)

Besides Redeploy Balloons, existing vehicles, and your own two feet, a new Armored SUV can be used to explore all the new areas in Caldera with an ample amount of defenses.

It includes a dedicated rooftop turret seat, and room for Operators to use their own loadout weapons, making this one mean vehicle that begs to be used in the field.

To get where you’re going fast, activate the SUV’s Nitro Boost to enjoy instant acceleration for a limited time.

ATMs

Get rich quick by searching out ATMs in Plunder game modes. Throughout the match, funds periodically spawn near ATMs up to a maximum holding. Collect these bags of gold for a major Cash boost.

EMP Grenade

Disable vehicles and disrupt enemy players and AI using the EMP Grenade, a non-lethal tool that explodes in a short-lived area of effect. Affected players are stripped of their HUD information, while vehicles are momentarily powered down.

Golden Plunder Limited-Time Mode

What kind of self-respecting thief would rightly call themselves a Mercenar[y] of Fortune without bags full of gold to prove it? Well… an opportunity has presented itself and an island littered with gold is there for the taking.

The new Golden Plunder limited-time mode offers the Blood Money experience with more competition and a lot more glitz. Some of the changes Players can expect to see include:

  • Player count increased to 120, up from 100
  • Players drop more Cash on death
  • Cash required for Victory increased to $5,000,000

The greediest of the bunch can also explore either of the following options:

  • Visit one of the malfunctioning ATM machines located on the map that seem to keep spewing out endless amounts of Cash
  • Hunt down one of the infamous Golden Keycards which is rumored to allow access to a bunker filled with all sorts of valuable new loot

Fair warning, only the wealthiest will be fortunate enough to walk away victorious.

Mercenaries of Fortune Event

Prove your skills in the Mercenaries of Fortune event, featuring eight challenges that test your mettle on Caldera and Fortune’s Keep.

Get rewards like new Weapon Camos, Reticle, Charm, Emblem, Sticker, and a Legendary animated Calling Card.

Complete all eight challenges to earn the coveted gold skin for the Armored SUV. Ride around in this thing and there’ll be no mistaking you for a common mercenary.

VANGUARD OVERVIEW

  • Shi No Numa Brings Back Classic Round-Based Zombies. Battle through the swamps of Shi No Numa in round-based play, featuring a new multi-step main quest, Wonder Weapon, and more.
  • Embark on the High Seas in USS Texas 1945. Battle on the decks and in the interior spaces of USS Texas 1945, launching at the start of the new season.
  • Blueprint Gun Game Debut. The fan-favorite mode is back. Be the first to progress through every weapon to win the match.

Zombies Brings Classic Round-Based Play in Shi No Numa

Thirteen years after its original release in World at War, the legendary round-based Zombies experience Shi No Numa is returning as part of this free update to Vanguard.

Team up and conquer the “Swamp of Death” in classic round-based Zombies play, featuring a new main quest and side quests, a new Wonder Weapon quest, fresh intel, and more.

New Main Quest, Wonder Weapon: Wade through the swamps as you journey on a multi-step quest culminating in a devastating battle. Complete the quest in full to show off your prowess with a new Calling Card. Watch for hidden secrets throughout in the form of multiple side quests waiting to be uncovered in the swamps.

Fast Travel, Classic Traps: Tactically reposition yourself from the undead fast using Shi No Numa’s zipline system and when the horde is nipping too close to your heels, run them through the flogger or your electro-shock defenses.

Experience the map in a new way through Vanguard’s unique features like exchanging your Sacrificial Hearts for upgrades at the Altar of Covenants and the Tome of Rituals.

Keep an eye on this blog for a Shi No Numa map guide coming next week.

Maps: USS Texas 1945 at Launch, Desolation in Season

Mercenaries of Fortune brings two new Multiplayer maps that will challenge even the most tactical Operators. A familiar battleship launches alongside the start of the season, with a second map arriving midway through.

USS Texas 1945 (Launch)

USS Texas 1945 challenges Operators to fight it out on an offshore battleship designed for tense long-range engagements on starboard and port and plenty of close-quarters action amidst its many confined interior locations. Set up on a power point and do your worst.

A reimagining of the U.S.S. Texas map from Call of Duty®: WWII, this is a a medium-sized map that’s moved from the white Cliffs of Dover to the waters around Caldera.

Desolation (In-Season)

Deploy to a Pacific listening post in this small-to-medium sized map set in a dense village littered with destruction. Large mountains and a vast landscape engulf the environment as you battle around the central building and along its creekside fortifications.

Blueprint Gun Game Debuts in Vanguard

The fan-favorite Blueprint Gun Game Multiplayer mode makes its Vanguard debut.

Be the first Operator to progress through all 18 weapons to win the match. Eliminate an enemy to cycle to the next weapon. Melee an enemy to set them back one weapon and get the final Throwing Knife elimination to secure victory.

No Perks, Killstreaks, or custom Loadouts allowed. Blueprint Gun Game is all about showing your mastery with a diverse weapon set, making it the perfect means of training up your weapon skills across the board.

New Ranked Season and Rewards

Sharpen your competitive skills by competing in 4v4 matches using the same settings, maps, and modes as the 2022 Call of Duty League.

Get unique Ranked Play rewards for securing wins and top placement against other players in the new season. Rewards include a sleek blue weapon camo for finishing a Ladder event in first place, a blue camo weapon camo for winning 100 matches, weapon blueprints and more. Consider these your incentives to get on the ladder and restart your climb to the top, as all players’ Skill Ratings and Skill Divisions will refresh for Mercenaries of Fortune.

With a new Call of Duty League Midseason Pack on the way and the season fast approaching its Stage IV Major, you’ll be ready and hyped to face even the sweatiest foes.

VANGUARD AND WARZONE OVERVIEW

  • Get Equipped with Two New Powerful Armaments. Keep enemy Operators at bay with the highly mobile Marco 5 and the suppressive UGM-8. Later in the season, get your hands on the Vargo S.
  • New Season, New Operators. The inimitable Captain Butcher is ready for deployment as a playable Operator, alongside Special Operations Task Force trainer Callum Hendry.

Four New Weapons, Two in Battle Pass

Add some spice to your Loadouts with these new armaments obtainable throughout the season.

Marco 5 (Launch)

A high mobility submachine gun, accurate from the hip with excellent close-range stopping power.”

For the highly mobile, aggressive player, there are few better options than rushing into battle with the Marco 5 SMG. It’s great for pushing into objectives, as its high mobility allows you to run circles around the enemy while they struggle to get a bead on your position.

Considering its relatively noticeable recoil and damage falloff at longer distances, the Marco 5 is best when fired from the hip at closer ranges. As the first SMG in Vanguard to feature the Akimbo Proficiency, you’ll soon wonder why you ever needed to aim down sights in the first place.

UGM-8 (Launch)

High fire rate, mobile LMG that excels at creating suppressing fire and pushing enemy positions.”

Who says an LMG has to slow you down? Combining high mobility with a high fire rate, the UGM-8 is ideal for players looking to keep pace with their teammates while offering suppressive fire.

This thing chews through ammo, so be prepared to feed it. Boost your ammo capacity with one of several different Magazine options or grab Fully Loaded or the Scavenger Perk to prevent going empty in the middle of a fight.

Push Dagger (Launch Window)

“A blade with a T-shaped grip that allows for increased push power. Easily concealable and deadly in CQC.”

Built for speed and stealth, this new melee tool will be a great addition to loadouts where close-quarters fights and silent takedowns are critical to a mission’s success.

Operators can unlock it either through a bundle to be made available during Season Four, or by completing one of two challenges:

In Multiplayer, get 5 Melee Kills with a Primary Weapon in a Single Match 15 times. (Hint: use the Bayonet attachment on a primary weapon for better lunge, or the Fast Melee Perk for quicker maneuvers)

In Zombies, get 100 kills with a Melee weapon while shrouded by your Aether Shroud. (Hint: the new Shi No Numa experience, with interiors that could trap you with the undead often, can be a great way to get kills).

Vargo-S (In-Season)

An essential armament for versatile play. This workhorse Assault Rifle offers a high-fire rate, steady aim through sustained fire, and a quick reload, and that’s before adding any of its Gunsmith attachments.

Unlock both the Marco 5 and the UGM-8 for free through the Seasonal Battle Pass System; more information to come. Unlock the Push Dagger and the Vargo-S in one of two ways: through an-game weapon-based challenge or via a Store Bundle to be released later this season, featuring a Weapon Blueprint from this weapon’s family.

Check out the incoming Operator skins right here. The official patch notes should be released around Season 4’s launch, and once we have it, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. For those on PlayStation, expect a pre-load to be up a day before Season 4 starts.

TMNT Shredder’s Revenge Day One Update 1.02 Fixes Listed (June 16)

In case you didn’t know, Dotemu and Tribute Games have released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder’s Revenge today, and it’s a proper throwback to Turtles in Time. If you’re curious whether there’s a patch available right away when you get it, the answer is yes! Check out the TMNT Shredder’s Revenge daye one update 1.02 list of fixes!

TMNT Shredder’s Revenge Day One Update 1.02 List of Fixes and Info:

Here are the known issues that will be fixed by the day one patch according to Tribute Games:

  • When respawning when near the screen’s borders, the player can get out-of-bounds
  • Custom controls aren’t saved when closing and reboot the application
  • The game will refuse to let a player create a lobby after being left running for a while
  • Low FPS in online games
  • If you disconnect the internet after being identified on epic, the game still behaves as if it were connected to the internet
  • On episode 4, one foot soldier isn’t hit by a animal herd and can reach the boss
  • Leatherhead remain stuck in falling animation in multiplayer
  • The application crashes at random with high probability of being server-side
  • Crash occurs when attempting to join a group from the map into a Boss fight

In addition to that, here are the known issues by the developers (per Steam):

🌐 ONLINE MULTIPLAYER
  • During an online session, if one of the players is disconnected on the score screen and attempts to rejoin the game, players may experience a softlock on the world map.
    ⇒ Workaround: Restart the game.
  • When 5 players try to join an online lobby, one of them might not be able to jump in.
  • Level 5 – During an online game session, if the host gets disconnected during the Rat King’s wave attack, he/she may disappear from the screen after a while.
  • Level 1 – When joining an ongoing game, the light spots may fall again (even if they have already been triggered), and inflict damage on the players, although they are not visible to them. This issue may also cause screen flickering throughout the rest of the level.

🎮 LOCAL MULTIPLAYER

  • In local multiplayer, if one player disconnects his or her controller, the other players may still be able to play (even if an error message occurs).
⇒ Workaround: This player must reconnect his/her controller
💀 SOFTLOCK
  • When playing online, if the host is disconnected during Super Shredder’s dash attack, Super Shredder can get stuck in a wall, causing a softlock.
  • Level 15 – Just before the first downward section, your character may go out of bounds when jumping to the bottom right corner.
🐢 GAMEPLAY
  • Level 4 – If Dirtbag digs a hole while a character is charging an attack, the character’s HP can drop to zero.
  • If Leonardo uses his guillotine attack (double jump + attack) and lands in a hole, his HP can drop to zero (regardless of the HP he had before). When this bug occurs, a dialog text is displayed several times.
In case you haven’t checked the game out yet, you really, really ought to, as we gave it an impressive 9.5/10 score, and even an Editor’s Choice award in our review!

Battlefield 2042 Down and Having Issues Connecting Online This June 16, DICE Working on It (Update)

It seems Battlefield 2042 players are having issues connecting to online services, as Battlefield 2042 down reports have surfaced once again this June 16, which is the second time this has happened within seven days.

Battlefield 2042 Down Status and Updates for June 16:

Update: DICE has announced that they have issued a temporary fix!

Here’s the announcement from DICE:

It’s taking longer than expected to connect to online services on #Battlefield 2042 – we’re on it.

You will be able to connect by just waiting through the issue, but it may fail to initially load your Player Card and associated unlocks.

We’ll have these back online soon.

It loks like players are able to connect, it’s just a wee bit harder to do so than normal. We’ll be updating this post with the server and connection status once DICE releases more info about it.

In the meantime, go check out this week’s BF2042 store refresh, as well as the new weekly missions and more listed here. Don’t forget, DICE is also shaking things up a bit by adding an Exposure 24/7 Breakthrough playlist today, too.

Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtle: Shredder’s Revenge Review – A Shell of a Time (PS4)

Oh, no! It looks like Shredder and his band of foot ninjas are back once more, wrecking havoc on the good people of New York City. How will we ever stop them? Fear not, citizens, for your favorite four amphibious heroes have returned! That’s right! The Punk Frogs are back and unlike their hard shell counterparts these guys will show no mercy! Will they finally put an end to Shredder’s long fueled quest for revenge? Find out in our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Shredder’s Revenge review!

Turtles Preserved in Time

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 31 years since the release of TMNT: Turtle in Time. While I never got to experience it at home myself, partially because my brother would hog the NES, I did get the chance to play it at one of the many — now extinct — arcade venues years later. And honestly, after playing, I could understand why my brother was such a hog with the console.

I knew instantly the moment I saw the intro and then hopped on, choosing Raphael as my main, that what I was playing was an absolute hit. The gameplay was so easy to get into, yet so satisfyingly addictive. It had music that I can only describe as being the perfect embodiment of the retro 90s. Not only that, but the visuals perfectly encapsulated that with its rich, vibrant colors, and ahead of its time animations.

The hours that I’ve poured into the arcade version, the absurd amount of coins wasted just so I could beat up some foot clan ninjas, and foil Shredder’s plans, I felt like a hero in my own childish way. I suppose that’s why they call it the golden era; a time when everything seemed so awesome because of how fresh it all was. I would do anything to relive that time and well, it seems that even the folks at Dotemu and Tribute Games understand this, as their latest, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge oozes in every bit of that nostalgic ’90s era.

I mean honestly, look at it and tell me this isn’t exactly how you remembered (at least in your head) the originals.

It’s gorgeous! While I know this, in fact, looks a lot better, I can’t help but feel as if this is exactly how it would have looked like if the ’90s series had continued on. Tribute Games even goes the extra mile by ensuring that it has that same blocky look, while also modernizing it with higher details, and complex animations. While I undoubtedly would have loved something closer to the reimagining that Streets of Rage 4 pulled, there’s just something charming with this retro style look that Tribute Games manages to pull off masterfully.

The animations especially are a treat, which I hope don’t go under appreciated. You know the animators at Tribute Games spent hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours, working on them, and I’m glad to see that work pay off in the final product. They’re buttery smooth, and for a game like TMNT where all the characters have a cartoon personality, it’s great being able to see those conveyed in such stylish animations.

That buttery smoothness of course transitions into the combat itself, and although recognizable, the beat ’em up combat offered by Shredder’s Revenge is undoubtedly some of the best the franchise has ever seen.

It’s fluid, and veterans of the old games will feel right at home. That’s not to say that there isn’t anything here for newcomers, and in fact quite the opposite. Like Turtle in Time, Shredder’s Revenge is very accessible to all ages and skill gaps. It’s very easy for anyone to just pick up and be good with it, because of how user friendly the controls and combo system are.

This results in an experience that not only you can enjoy solo, but with family and friends, as not only does Shredder’s Revenge support local play like the originals, but it also supports full online cooperative play, making this one exceptional party experience.

A Modernized Take That Keeps the Spirit Intact

I suppose you’re wondering what else Tribute Games might have done to help modernize TMNT? Well, outside of the visuals, and improved and expanded gameplay, there’s a change to how the arcade and story function. It’s not a drastic one, mind you, but rather than only offer an Arcade mode like in the originals, Shredder’s Revenge features a story mode for those looking to take things at their own pace.

That means that, unlike in the arcades, players will be able to save their progression as they move from one level to another. The presentation is a bit different too, whereas Arcade mode immediately throws you into the next level after completing one, the story brings you to an almost Super Mario Bros.-like map of New York City that you can move between levels on. That means if you wanted, you could replay any mission you want without having to go through the other ones to get to it.

Additionally, Story mode offers more gameplay mechanics in the form of a leveling system. It’s not anything crazy, usually tied to increasing health and super meter, but there are some exclusive abilities to be unlocked. It also features NPCs that offer side quests, as well as missions for during levels, but again, nothing crazy as they mostly revolve around finding hidden items such as a diary, and even some familiar surprise cameos.

But of course, if you are wanting to experience Shredder’s Revenge as close to the original releases, you could always play through Arcade mode. It has a higher level of difficulty, and guts away all the story features such as saving, upgrading, and even the side missions.

Whatever mode you prefer, you’ll find that there’s an endless amount of fun to be had, be it alone, or with a group of friends.

Turtle Power

You know, from the very moment I saw Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtle: Shredder’s Revenge I knew instantly that the game was going to be a hit. It does exactly what I was hoping it would do, delivering on what only its 90’s counterparts have been able to deliver. Sheer fun, coupled with outright gorgeous visuals that would make any fan happy. The child in me is screaming with joy, while the adult in me is applauding Tribute Games and Dotemu on their incredible work. This will be one for the ages, a timeless classic that I’ll be going back to for many years to come.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros

  • Fantastic combat that’s addictive and fun. Makes for an amazing party experience.
  • Visuals that ooze in 80’s and 90’s aesthetics. The animations are some of the best I’ve seen in the franchise.
  • The sound design and music are as charming as ever.
  • Arcade and story mode gives players a bit of freedom in how they want to experience the game.
  • Local and online play support.

Cons

  • As much as I loved the visuals, the pixelated text can be a bit hard on the eyes.
  • Very minor random hitching on the PlayStation version.

PATCH NOTES 2.36.0 – FOR HONOR

IMPROVEMENTS:

FIGHTERS

Pirate

  • Grand Cavalier (Side Dodge Heavy)
    • are now 600ms (from 533ms)
  • Walk the Plank
    • Walk the Plank’s range was reduced by 0.5m
    • Walk the Plank’s Top version’s forward movement reduced to be the same as the Side versions
    • Walk the Plank’s pin recovery is now 1500ms (from 1300ms)
    • Pistol Blast from Walk the Plank now feeds 30 revenge (from 5)
    • Pistol Blast from Walk the Plank now costs 6 stamina (from 15)
    • Pistol Blast on block/miss’s range was reduced by 0.5m

Developer’s Comment: These changes are targeted at specific areas where Pirate is outperforming other heroes:

  • Walk the Plank should no longer be able to combo into itself on wallsplat
  • Pistol Blast from Walk the Plank should no longer enable 100-0 ganks with revenge not activating
  • Pistol Blast after Block or Miss has less reach, reducing its ability to track opponents
  • Grand Cavalier should be more easily reactable in 1v1 situations

Conqueror

*Developer’s Comment: Conqueror was problematic in that the hero’s defense was very high but lacked proper offense outside of Shield Bash; we’ve focused on making the hero more viable in both 1v1 and group fight scenarios.*

Full Block Stance

  • Can now be used to cancel the recovery of any attack
  • Now allows Stamina Regeneration after 300ms
  • Recovery is now 300ms (from 200ms)
  • No longer gains less revenge while in Full Block Stance
  • Stamina is no longer drained when blocking attacks while in Full Block Stance
  • Can no longer cancel into Zone Attack
  • Can now initiate Flail Uppercut and Scutage Collection when blocking an attack

Developer’s Comment: Conqueror’s Full Block Stance was difficult to use; it was accessible only from certain states, drained stamina when blocking and gave Conqueror less Revenge while blocking attacks. We’ve adjusted the move so that it can now be used as a recovery cancel to catch opponents performing dodge attacks, as well as gave it better follow-ups to use based on the situation (group fight or 1v1).

Flail Uppercut

  • Is now performed by pressing Heavy after any Superior Block or Shield Bash
  • Is no longer Undodgeable
  • Can now be Parried
  • Now deals 17 damage (from 20)
  • Can execute

Developer’s Comment: Flail Uppercut has changed its input through the Testing Grounds, and now ends up back on the Heavy button. It is now also available after performing Shield Bash (both from Dodge and in Chains) to give Conqueror a better followup to Shield Bashes, giving the hero more opportunities to execute opponents and better damage output in 1v1 situations.

NEW MOVE: Scutage Collection

  • Performed by pressing Light after any Superior Block or Shield Bash
  • Deals 15 damage
  • Costs 9 Stamina
  • 360-degree trajectory
  • 466ms to hit locked target, 566ms total duration (like most Zone Attacks, it can hit opponents after hitting its main target)

Developer’s Comment: We’re introducing a new move to Conqueror to help the hero perform better in outnumbered situations – Scutage Collection can be used both after any Superior Block (including Full Block Stance and when Dodging) as well as after any Shield Bash; this lets Conqueror hit nearby opponents when surrounded (instead of being stuck with only Flail Uppercut).

Zone Attack

  • Now deals 15 damage (from 8)
  • Can no longer be held
  • No longer has Superior Block
  • Now initiates chains

Developer’s Comment: Conqueror’s Zone Attack was too defensive; players could use it in response to attacks at parry timing and either block the attack or hit the feint to Guard Break or light attack. In addition, holding Zone Attack was only truly useful due to the Superior Block function, and made Conqueror especially too strong and annoying in the minion lane. We’ve removed these properties but also improved how Zone Attack performs by making it do more damage, making it initiate chains and giving it better hitboxes to hit people around the hero better.

Opener Heavy Attacks

  • Top version now deals 27 damage (from 24)
  • Side versions now deal 24 damage (from 22)
  • Charged versions are now all 700ms (from 800ms for top)
  • Charged versions now need to charge for 600ms to gain Unblockable (from 1000ms)
  • Charged versions now deal 28 damage (from 32 for top and 30 for side)
  • Removed Superior Block property
  • Conqueror can no longer Block while charging Heavy Attack
  • Removed soft feint to Shield Uppercut
  • Can now be feinted

Developer’s Comment: We’ve standardized the damage on Conqueror’s top and side uncharged versions so they are in-line with other heroes. We’ve also lowered the amount of time Conqueror needs to charge the Heavies to make them easier to use. We’ve also removed the Superior Block property from this move; this property used to let Conqueror option select attacks.

Chained Heavy Attacks

  • Top Chained Heavy attack is now 800ms (from 900ms)
  • All sides are now Unblockable
  • Improved weapon trajectories on side versions to have more reach
  • Removed soft feint to Shield Uppercut
  • Can now be feinted

Developer’s Comment: Conqueror’s Chained Heavy attacks did not prove to be threatening enough; by giving them the Unblockable property, they gain much more pressure. Their ability to be feinted now also lets Conqueror do feint-to-Guard Break to beat dodges and rolls, and their improved trajectories should help Conqueror perform better in outnumbered situations.

Further, the Unblockable heavies are meant to put more of Conqueror’s focus onto using the flail itself for offense.

Shield Bash from Dodge

  • No longer drains stamina
  • No longer pauses stamina regeneration
  • Now chains to Flail Uppercut or Scutage Collection on hit

Shield Bash mixup (Used in chains)

  • No longer drains stamina
  • No longer pauses stamina regeneration
  • Now chains to Flail Uppercut or Scutage Collection on hit
  • Now costs 10 stamina
  • Can now be feinted

Developer’s Comment: We’ve removed the ability for Conqueror’s Shield Bash to drain and pause stamina to make the attack fairer; previously, Conqueror could keep opponents out of stamina for a long period of time with Shield Bash. This is no longer the case. To compensate, Shield Bash now has better, dedicated follow-ups for both 1v1 and outnumbered situations, and the chained version can now be feinted for better mix-ups in 1v1.

Shaolin

Developer’s Comment: Shaolin’s revamp focuses on improving the hero’s flow, as well as getting better openers and more ways to get into Qi Stance.

Qi Stance Attacks

  • Can now cancel Qi Stance with a Dodge
  • Astonishing Blossom attacks are now 500ms (from 700ms)
  • Astonishing Blossom attacks are now Enhanced
  • Top Astonishing Blossom no longer Stuns
  • Elegant Lotus attacks are now 700ms (from 1000ms from top and 600ms on sides)
  • Top Elegant Lotus is now Undodgeable (no longer Unblockable)
  • Sun Kick now chains on miss
  • Sun Kick Strike is now 400ms (from 300ms)
  • Sun Kick no longer chains to Sweep
  • Qi Stance Light, Heavy and Sun Kick Strike now chain to Sun Sweep
  • Sun Sweep is now 800ms (from 700ms)
  • Sun Sweep can be feinted
  • Sun Sweep no longer unbalances allies
  • Sun Sweep recovery now regains defense in the last 300ms
  • Sun Sweep now has a dedicated follow-up move

New Move: Sun Sweep Heavy Followup

  • Sun Sweep Heavy Followup is performed by pressing the Heavy button
  • Is 700ms
  • Costs 12 stamina
  • Deals 24 damage
  • Initiates chains as well as can enter Qi Stance

Developer’s Comment: We’ve focused on making sure that Qi Stance attacks were more consistent, flowed better with Sweep and lets players perform more Qi Stance attacks than before. The new Sweep can always return to Qi Stance when players correctly read their opponents’ actions, Qi Stance Lights can now be used to initiate the Sweep in a more consistent manner and Qi Stance Top Heavy being Undodgeable means it will be more difficult to get random blocks when attempting to dodge Sun Kick.

Side Dodge Attacks

  • Now initiate chains
  • Now can enter Qi Stance
  • Now have more movement, both front and side

Developer’s Comment: Shaolin’s side dodge attacks often felt stranded; while they are good dodge attacks, Shaolin’s flow stopped when performing these attacks. They now can both initiate chains and enter Qi Stance, giving Shaolin better flow and more opportunities to go on the offensive.

New Move: Flying Monkey Variant

  • Performed by pressing Guard Break from Front Dodge
  • Is a 500ms Melee attack
  • Performed at 300ms to 500ms from Front Dodge
  • Chains to neutral Light or Heavy attack on hit or miss
    • Light is guaranteed

Developer’s Comment: Shaolin needed a reliable opener to both enter Qi Stance and engage in group fight situations – this move should help Shaolin perform much better in 1v1 situations where it should be easier to enter Qi Stance with this opener.

Light Opener Attacks

  • Top Light opener is now Enhanced
  • Side Light opener combos now deal 10-4-4 damage (from 5-5-7)
  • Side Light opener combos no longer require strict timing to execute

Developer’s Comment: Top Light should now be able to be used more reliably as an soft opener, while the Side Light openers have been updated to have their damage more front-loaded and deal slightly more damage with 2 hits than previously.

Heavy Opener and Chained Attacks

  • Attack range has been increased for all Opener and Chained Heavy attacks
  • Improved trajectories on Side Heavy Attacks
  • All non-Finisher Heavy Attack recoveries have been normalized to 800ms

Developer’s Comment: Shaolin’s Side Heavy Attacks should now more reliably hit external opponents and give Shaolin more pressure in outnumbered situations.

Zone Attack

  • 2nd hit is now 800ms (from 500ms)
  • 3rd hit is now 900ms (from 400ms)
  • Stamina cost is now 20 for the first hit, 20 for the second and 20 for the third (from 60 for first, 0 for others)
  • 2nd hit now deals 15 damage (from 12)
  • 3rd hit now deals 18 damage
  • Can now change targets between hits of Zone Attack
  • Improved trajectories
  • Fixed an issue which prevented the Zone Attack from properly hitting minions
  • 3rd hit now gains defense in the last 300ms of its recovery

Developer’s Comment: We’ve changed how Shaolin’s Zone Attack functions. Previously, if the 2nd hit landed or was blocked, the 3rd hit was guaranteed to land – we wanted to update this functionality to make it clearer for both Shaolin and their opponents to deal with the attack. All 3 hits are now dodgeable or parryable, but to compensate we’ve increased the damage, improved the trajectories and let the move change targets in between hits for better minion clear and better performance in outnumbered situations.

FEATS

Bloodlust adjustments

  • Now gives +20% damage dealt (from +50%)
  • Now gives -20% damage taken (from -50%)
  • Cooldown is now 20 seconds (from 30 seconds)

Dev comment: Bloodlust was a very strong Tier 2 feat; by itself it wasn’t the most powerful feat, but combined with other feats (such as Pirate’s unique Tier 3 feat Trick Shot and Valkyrie’s combo of Javelin Toss + Bloodlust + Fire Flask) was too powerful. We’ve decided to reduce its effectiveness so it still is useful, but is no longer a mandatory pick for certain heroes. To compensate for the reduction in effectiveness, we’ve also lowered the cooldown of the feat so it can trigger more often.

ITEM SPAWN BALANCE

We have received reports that heal items were difficult to find in Erangel and Miramar Normal Matches since the item spawn balance in Update 16.2. After reviewing internal data, we noticed the spawn rate of heal items decreased slightly in Erangel’s Normal Matches – this was mainly due to the increase in weapon and attachment spawn rates (with no adjustment to the overall spawn amount).

Meanwhile, in Miramar Normal Matches, the number of heal items did not decrease as we also boosted the overall amount of spawned items – however, a comparatively aggressive change to gameplay dynamics was detected due to the stronger possibility of finding more weapon and attachment spawns. Therefore, the natural demand for heal items has greatly increased.

To respond to these changes, we have decided to make the following changes.

※ The item spawn rate balance shown below will only apply to Normal Matches.

  • ERANGEL
    • Increased the total amount of items by approximately 10%.
      • Spawn rates for Vest (Lv.1) and Backpack (Lv.1) have reduced by approximately 15%, but Vest (Lv.2) and Backpack (Lv.2) have increased by approximately 60%.
      • Spawn rates for both Helmet (Lv.1) and Helmet (Lv.2) have increased by approximately 10%.
      • Spawn rates for Adrenaline Syringes, Energy Drinks, and Painkillers have increased by approximately 50%.

Battlefield 2042 Exposure 24/7 Breakthrough Playlist Coming Tomorrow, Weekly Missions Tied to It

DICE is shaking up the playlists in Season 1 of Battlefield 2042, and it’s to give players more of what they want! The studio announced that a Battlefield 2042 Exposure 24/7 Breakthrough playlist is going up tomorrow, and this will replace Exposure Conquest 24/7!

The announcement was made on Twitter, with DICE announing that this week’s missions are tied to the Exposure 24/7 Breakthrough playlist!

Tomorrow we’ll rotate our AOW Playlists to support the start of Zero Hour: Week 2

◽️Exposure BT 24/7 will join Exposure CQ 24/7
◽️Exodus CQ will take a few weeks off

You have been asking us to make it easier to play Exposure on Breakthrough, so starting tomorrow this dedicated playlist will be live alongside Exposure Conquest 24/7

Exodus CQ will take a break to make room for Exposure Breakthrough 24/7

However, if you’re a fan of playing through our Classic Maps while progressing with 2042 Specialists, Flashback CQ and Infantry CQ will be live in #BattlefieldPortal this week as Featured Experiences

To help you get the most out of Breakthrough, this week’s missions have challenges catered to that mode

Find out in the image below, from our Weekly Radar thread. Which keeps track of all the experiences taking place each week.

We’ll continue to assess Community Feedback and the reception of these changes throughout this weekend and we’ll be back at the start of next week with any additional plans we have to share around our ongoing All-Out Warfare Playlists

Week 2 of Zero Hour features missions that encourages game play of Breakthrough as well as teamplay activities.

1500 Damage Inflicted With Primary Weapons
1 Round Played of Breakthrough
3 Kills with Shotguns

8 Objectives Captured or Rounds Played
10 Squadmates Revived or Times Revived by Squadmates
1 Multikill Performed With Any Explosive

50 Teammates Resupplied with Ammo
3 Kills With Melee Weapons
15 Kills with SMG or Shotguns

This is definitely a step in the right direction, right? Speaking of which, we’ve published our Battlefield 2042 Season 1 review, and while the content is still lacking, we surmise that it is a step forward for the game.

In case you missed it, DICE released a server-side nerf to Sundance yesterday regarding her Scatter Grenades.

Evil Dead the Game Review: Low on Gas (PS5)

The Evil Dead is one of the most enduring horror franchises of all time. Three main films: The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness (a remake and a TV show), Ash vs Evil Dead and another film coming to HBO Max this year (Evil Dead Rise), and numerous comics and video games are proof that director Sam Raimi’s comedy horror franchise show no signs of slumber. When I saw that there was an asymmetric take on the franchise with Evil Dead The Game, I was, to say the least, excited. While it’s clear the developers at Saber Interactive have love and reverence for the franchise, there’s not a whole lot to do and some odd design choices make it less than it could be.

The Gang’s All Here

The good new is that for fans of the series there are a ton of things to geek out over. From the characters you can choose to play as, ranging from Ash to his sister Cheryl from The Evil Dead, to Annie from Evil Dead 2, to Henry the Red from Army of Darkness,  and even Kelly from Ash vs Evil Dead. Only fans of the remake alone will feel left out as none of those characters are present.

From the Kandarian Dagger, to the infamous cabin, to, of course, the Necronomicon, all Evil Dead iconography is present and accounted for. There’s even little east eggs like “Shemp’s Cola” (not Shemp’s beer, for some reason) make their useful appearance into the game. The enemies you fight will be familiar to anyone who loves this franchise and the game even features the voice work of Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and more. All of this is to say this is the most authentic Evil Game there has ever been and for that Evil Dead: The Game is worthy of praise.

Faceful of Boomstick

Unfortunately, presentation can only get you so far in a video game. It still has to be fun to play, and while it can have its moments, Evil Dead The Game is more frustrating than fun. The main attraction of the game is the Survivors vs. Demons mode that allows up to four people to play the survivors and should you choose, you can play against a demon AI. There’s also the option to play solo in this mode. Every match consists of following the clues laid out in the upper right corner of the screen to find three map pages from different locations on the map, before being able to collect the Kandarian Dagger and cleansing the Necronomicon of spirits. As you make your way around the map, you may find better weapons, matches to light fires to lower your fear meter, or even Shemp’s Cola which heals you.

The gameplay does offer wrinkles directly tied to the Evil Dead franchise, such as if your fear meter gets too high your vision is impaired and you are highly likely to be possessed. Being possessed turns you against your teammates, but they can wack you enough that you snap out of it. If you die, a teammate can take your soul to an alter and resurrect you. And while you’re trying to do all of this, random demons will spawn out of nowhere and attack you.

As Clunky as a 73 Oldsmobile

On paper it sounds fun, but the controls aren’t as tight as they should be. Aiming feels wonky, and ammo is so scarce that I wound up using melee 90% of the time. Speaking of scarce, healing items are hilariously and frustratingly scarce. Should the other teammates not choose a healer, you have to rely on these ultra rare items which seems baffling to me. Targeting with a melee weapon isn’t much better and the hit boxes are pretty small, so unless you’re directly facing an enemy, you’re going to whiff a bunch of swings.

There are solo missions in the game which change things up a bit, but there are no checkpoints, so if you die late into a mission you have to start the whole thing over again. There are games like that I love, like FromSoftware games. But here it’s nearly rage inducing because the game isn’t fun enough to warrant that kind of design. After a while I just stopped playing the mode altogether.

It’s ultimately more fun with friends, but only really if they’re also into Evil Dead as a franchise. And even then, references and nostalgia can only get you so far. Ultimately, Evil Dead the Game can be improved by patches and I’ll be happy to return to it when it is improved. As for now, I’ll stick with my film collection for my Evil Dead fix.

Score: 6/10

Pros

  • Tons of reverence for the Evil Dead franchise (except the remake)
  • A lot of the cast from the original film and Ash vs Evil Dead lend their voices
  • Fun with friends that are also fans

Cons

  • Every vs mission has the same goals
  • Aiming and targeting make combat a chore
  • Solo missions aren’t fun enough to warrant no checkpoints
  • Not enough content to keep you playing

In addition to that, Steel Wool has also touched on the upcoming DLC for the game too! Here’s the studio’s announcement which was included in the patch notes roll out.

Hey everyone!

We have been busy over here at Steel Wool and now is a good time to give you a few updates on what’s been happening!

A couple of weeks ago, we pushed a new patch for the console version of Security Breach. That patch contained a whole bunch of fixes, but was specifically released in order to add Japanese localization to support the launch of our physical version in Japan. The reason we hadn’t released patch notes until now is because we wanted to add a few more fixes that were cut off due to the hard deadline. At the bottom of this post is the list of changes/fixes that went into both that patch and the one we’re currently releasing. As you’ll see, this is a non-trivial release for us.

Given the size of this patch and the previous major patch, we are generally content with the game as it currently stands, but we know it can always be better. There will be other patches in the future, they’re just not likely to be as major as the ones you’ve seen.

Next, we should probably talk about the gold and busted Glamrock Freddy statue in the room…

Over the last few months, we’ve begun our full development push on our upcoming DLC, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach – RUIN. There’s not much to share at this point, other than we’re working hard and are very excited to share more as soon as the time is right. It’s worth saying that while there will always be skeptics (as there absolutely should be), the response has been overwhelmingly positive and your excitement has put smiles on all of our faces here at the studio. We get hyped when you do and it reminds us why we love doing what we do.

Important Note

We are aware of a bug introduced in this update affecting text gadgets within creations which are set to In Scene. If you notice an issue with text gadgets in your creations, we recommend you do not attempt to fix these. We will be addressing this bug in our early July update, ensuring that the bug does not affect booths on display at DreamsCom ’22.

Please do let us know of any issues you encounter when playing and creating in Dreams on our forums(opens in new tab).

  • Added all the names of our QA team to the credits.
  • Added a counter in the main menu that displays the number of chests and Fallen Hero Notes that have been collected, as well as listing them per chapter. Individual chapter times are also now displayed once the game has been completed in Here for Glory.
