Battlefield 6 Matchmaking Won’t Rely Heavily on SBMM, as Other Factors Will Take Priority

With the multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6 that happened this past Thursday, many of the community’s burning questions have not only been answered, but also concerns and feedback from viewers are already being addressed by the Battlefield Studios ahead of the game’s release.

Still, many questions need answering, and at the top of many lists is whether or not Battlefield 6 will feature SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking) and how “heavy” it will be. Luckily, these were questions that the studios answered during a press event for BF6, which MP1st attended.

Battlefield 6 Matchmaking Will Have SBMM, but Other Factors Will Be Taken Into Account

SBMM  has been a hot topic in the realm of online gaming for the past decade. Call of Duty, especially, has been criticized for its heavy and obvious use of it, which makes matches feel like a constant battle for your life, rather than promoting fun and evenly challenging lobbies.

It’s a concern that Battlefield fans fear will be the case with Battlefield 6, but the reality is that nearly every multiplayer shooter has had SBMM in some way (including the Battlefield franchise); it’s just never been anywhere near as severe as what Activision did with Call of Duty.

With that said, it appears that Battlefield 6 will feature a matchmaking system similar to previous Battlefield games, with the studio prioritizing players’ enjoyment rather than forcing them into a specific matchmaking pool. There are, of course, still factors that determine how matchmaking works, but it’s not heavily reliant on just one. Some of the factors disclosed that would affect matchmaking were:

  • Ping
  • Player’s location
  • Server fullness
  • and skill.

When it comes to prioritization and which factor leads, the studio revealed that this is based on the mode, rather than being the same across all.

Based on that information, we can infer the following: Conquest is more enjoyable with a full lobby of players, regardless of skill level, and therefore should prioritize matchmaking based on server fullness. It may then examine the player’s location and ping to ensure they can stay in the match and see it through to the end, with skill being the lowest factor in this example.

Now, if Battlefield adds ranked or modes more focused on the competitive side, skill might be the highest factor when it comes to matchmaking in that specific mode.

Again, this system should be similar, if not identical, to past Battlefield games. In that case, players worried about matchmaking in matches that always feel like a constant sweatfest, you can probably set those concerns aside.

These only come into play when you use the matchmaking, and if the server browser is as streamlined as we hope for it to be, that won’t be a system you’ll need to worry about when you can just select the server you want to play in.

While we won’t know for certain until the game is out and played by millions of people, it doesn’t seem like matchmaking should be a major concern for Battlefield 6 players, and we’re hoping it stays that way.

Another thing that players shouldn’t be concerned about is character skins, which the developers have commented on with satisfying answers.

Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The open beta will kick off next week, and we have a handy guide on everything you need to know about it.

Battlefield 6 Assault Class Double Primary Ability Changed by DICE, Just Days Before Open Beta

In Battlefield 6, while there will be four classes that franchise veterans should be familiar with, DICE is putting new ways to make these four familiar classes unique.

One of the changes made early on was with the Assault class, which was given a Weapon Sling as one of its gadgets. This allowed the class to carry two primary weapons, such as two assault rifles, an assault rifle and an LMG or something.

DICE is changing this up, mere days before the shooter enters early access open beta.

Battlefield 6’s Assault Class Already Getting Adjustments Because of BF Labs Feedback

The announcement was made by DICE, who explained how the Weapon Sling has been changed.

DICE notes, “Following feedback from Battlefield Labs participants, it was clear that players felt the earliest iterations of the Weapon Sling Gadget was intruding upon Class Identity with its ability to use Double Assault Rifles, or any other Signature Weapon and we agreed.”

Moving forward, Assault players will no longer have the ability to use the following as second weapons with the Weapon Sling:

  • Assault Rifles
  • LMG
  • Sniper Rifles

You can use the following as a second weapon, with the Weapon Sling:

  • Carbines
  • DMRs
  • Shotguns

This is a step in the right direction, as it doesn’t need a super-genius to know why this would have been a bad idea. Thankfully, DICE noticed it too and made changes ASAP.

We ran an article explaining the class abilities, signature weapons, and more, which should give players an idea of which class they want to start as.

Battlefield 6 will be available on October 10, but an early access open beta is kicking off next week. Read up on how to participate and the other details in case you’re interested in joining.

Battlefield 6 Cosmetics to Be “Grounded” and “Authentic to the Franchise,” Claims DICE

While a recent datamine has shown us that the cosmetics planned for Battlefield 6 don’t include cartoon characters or anything of the sort, we now have the first confirmation from DICE that they are looking for a more “grounded” look to cosmetics.

Things can change, but for now, what DICE has said regarding BF6 skins have us feeling optimistic that we won’t see Beavis & Butthead, WWE wrestlers or pop stars in the upcoming shooter, unlike that other franchise.

Character skins have been a hot topic as of late, especially when it comes to military first-person shooters. While we’re not expecting a mil-sim from our military shooters, we’re still hoping to see some authenticity to it, and seeing cartoon characters running around the virtual battlefield certainly breaks any sort of realism, and quite honestly, even affects gameplay somewhat.

DICE Emphasizes Importance of How Classes Look Affect Gameplay

battlefield 6 portal

Speaking to ComicBook, DICE Senior Producer David Sirland and Producer Alexia Christofi commented on this hot topic. While both didn’t outright say we’ll never see any silly-looking skins in Battlefield 6 (since that’s publisher EA’s call, moreso than the devs), both developers seem to be aligned in keeping these types of cosmetics out of Battlefield 6.

Christofi commented, “What I will say is what’s really important to us is that things feel grounded, and we want people to express themselves and to have cool skins and peacock in a way like ‘I look pretty cool and I have this great weapon skin…But we want it to feel authentic to the franchise, that’s the approach we’re thinking.”

Sirland takes it a step further, and explains character appearance is vital in distinguishing classes on the battlefield quickly. The devs have created ways to quickly identify a character’s class, and this is something they’re always thinking about even when deciding character skins.

Sirland notes, “That’s also part of the class identity, how you look, probably more how you think you look than how you actually see someone. We have this shoulder identifier [for classes], like with Recon, it’s three antennas [near their shoulder], similar to Battlefield 3.”

Sirland further explains, “For example, there is a ghillie material on the Recon skins, and they’re not used on the other [classes] to really emphasize the differences, There are some rules there, but it’s looser rules than ‘It’s always going to look like this.’ But it needs to feel like it fits the universe, because part of why I think we’re getting good feedback here is because it feels like 3 and 4, in a sense, where it fits. I think that’s really important.”

That does make a lot of sense. Let’s hope EA doesn’t pressure the devs to put in cartoon skins, though given how much money these things earn for Call of Duty, I suspect that’s a conversation they’ll be having sooner rather than later.

Battlefield 6 ships this October 10 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but before that happens, an open beta is kicking off later this month. Check out our comprehensive guide on everything you need to know about the beta to get you started.

We also have an in-depth look at each class’ signature trait, abilities that Battlefield fans will want to take a look.

Lords of the Fallen New Update 1.082 Fixes Unlockable Classes, as Publisher Drops the Game’s Standard Price

Developer HexWorks has pushed out a new Lords of the Fallen update on consoles and PC on August 1, and this fixes the issues with unlockable classes for affected saves.

Console gamers will see this as Lords of the Fallen update 1.082 (full ver. 1.082.000), which the developers tag as patch v2.0.55. The complete patch notes are available below, though don’t expect much as this is more of a hotfix than an actual update.

Lords of the Fallen Update on August 1 Fixes Unlockable Classes Bug

Here’s what’s new in today’s patch per HexWorks:

  • Unlockable classes restored for affected saves
  • Walking/running animations improved
  • Fixed missing Andreas of Ebb note & Fief Door issue
  • PvP rewards rebalanced

Alongside the patch released today, publisher CI Games has lowered the RPG’s price permanently to $29.99 on all platforms.

There was also a patch released last week that ushered in the following changes:

PvP Invasions – Now Optional (Off by Default)

For many, the journey through Mournstead is a trial of faith, steel, and shadow. With this update, PvP invasions can now be toggled on and off in the gameplay settings, allowing players to opt-out of invasions entirely. By default, invasions will now be disabled for all players. Should you choose to open your world to the blood-thirsty, know that your courage shall not go unrewarded…

New PvP Rewards – Defend or Invade in Style

For those who embrace the chaos of battle between wayfarers, new updated armour sets now await those who triumph in PvP encounters.

  • Defenders of their realm may now earn the First Luminary Guardsman Armour, bearing the brands of a thousand battles.
  • Invaders, relentless in their pursuit of Vigor and glory, may claim the Crimson Pursuivant Armour, dyed in the blood of countless fallen champions.

These rare sets are loot drops rewarded only to victorious players in PvP combat. Keep your eyes sharp and your blades sharper as armour pieces drop randomly, but only to those who prevail.

PvP Victory Loot – Updated

In addition to the new armour sets, PvP victors are now guaranteed one of the following drops:

  • Large Deralium Shard
  • Deralium Chunk
  • Heavenly Vial
  • Vestige Moth
  • Vigor Moth

Once another patch is out, it’ll  be here on MP1st.

Report: Starfield PS5 Release Planned for 2026 Alongside Expansion 2

While more and more Xbox games are being released on the PS5, one Xbox-exclusive game that still hasn’t been announced for the PS5 is Bethesda’s Starfield. Given Microsoft’s multi-platform publishing stance, it’s just a matter of when the sci-fi RPG will be available on Sony’s console, rather than if it’ll ever be released.

For those on PS5 hoping to play Starfield on their console this year, that won’t be happening just yet.

Starfield on PS5 Won’t Be Releasing in 2025

According to our sources, MP1st was told that Starfield won’t be released in 2025, partly due to the RPG’s weak sales of the first expansion, Shattered Space. Instead, Microsoft is leaning toward releasing the Starfield PS5 version in Spring 2026. For those not in the US, spring starts the middle of March and runs until mid-June.

From what we were told, Starfield’s release on PS5 is planned to coincide with the game’s second expansion and other quality-of-life updates. We are also not expecting any announcement about the PS5 version of the game at this August’s gamescom, so don’t expect it to be shadowdropped like Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered release a few months ago, which is something we reported on accurately (for anyone keeping score).

Similar to any release and marketing plan, there are numerous moving parts, and things are constantly changing. However, based on the information we have currently, we do not expect Starfield to be released this year.

As for the next former Xbox-exclusive hitting the PS5, it’s Gears of War: Reloaded due for release this August. Other reported Xbox games hitting the PS5, though unannounced, include Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3, according to a game developer working on the titles.

While Starfield’s first expansion might not have done as well as Bethesda expected, the base game is still a fantastic RPG. Our review of the Xbox version was very glowing, and said, “. It has everything you’d want from a Bethesda game: a deep and prosperous universe filled with endless possibilities and limitless potential.”

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Confirmed; First Teaser Already Looks Choatic

The rumors have been confirmed to be legit, and It’s official, Battlefield is getting a Battle Royale Mode, which will be available to play in Battlefield Labs very “soon.”

Although details are next to none, EA and the Battlefield Studios did release a short teaser of the mode.

“And It Burns, Burns, Burns, The Ring of Fire, The Ring of Fire.”

With the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal finally concluded, EA and the Battlefield Studios had one last surprise to share with fans.

Although the teaser doesn’t outright say Battle Royal, it was confirmed by Battlefield’s Global Community Manager, Kevin Johnson, who took to X to say the mode is coming soon to Battlefield Labs.

Based on the short teaser video, there’s not a whole lot to really say about the mode outside of the confirmation of vehicles, destruction, and, of course, the massive ring of fire that seems to be engulfing everything it touches.

Now the question is, will we see the Battle Royal mode alongside Battlefield 6 this October? That’s anyone’s guess, but seeing that it’ll be playable in Labs soon, we’d put our money on the mode launching within a few months of the core experience.

Battlefield 6 arrives on October 10, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with an open beta beginning next month. If you want to know what we think about the game, based on hands-on experience, be sure to read our Battlefield 6 hands-on impression, and find out why this might just be the long-awaited return to form for the franchise.

Octopath Traveler 0 Announced, And This Time You’ll Be Able to Create Your Character

A new Octopath Traveler game has been announced, and no, it’s not Octopath Traveler 3, but rather Octopath Traveler 0. That’s “Zero,” and as the name may suggest, it’s a prequel to the first game.

But don’t think for a minute that this tale won’t be as epic as the previous entries, because despite being a prequel, it’s bringing some major new features, with the protagonist being a character that you get to create yourself.

It All Starts With Zero

In addition to creating your own character, Octopath Traveler 0 is also introducing a new town-building mechanic, which was shown off in the trailer above. More details on the new features and the game in general can be found below.

About the game (via Steam)

Start from zero and discover the newest entry in the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series. Experience a story of restoration and retribution over the divine rings—an epic saga that unfolds across the realm of Orsterra.

Enjoy familiar features such as the series’ HD-2D graphics, a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG; the player’s ability to roleplay using Path Actions of their choice; and the Break and Boost system that can turn the tide of battle. Additionally, brand-new features such as character creation and town building allow you to create your own character and restore your hometown.

Key Features

  • You are the protagonist of the story. Choose your appearance, voice, motions, and favorite dish with the new character creation feature!
  • Restore your hometown through town building. Invite companions and allies to live in a town of your creation!
  • Engage in exhilarating and strategic command battles. Choose from over 30 allies to form a party comprised of up to eight characters!
  • Use Path Actions to invite people to your town, engage in battle, and obtain items. Where you go and what you do is entirely up to you.
  • Equip action skills with the new skill system. These skills can be learned by allies and passed on to others.

Octopath Traveler 0 launches on December 4, 2025, on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders are now live across all platforms.

Battlefield 2042’s New Update Wants Players to Know Battlefield 6 Is Coming

DICE has quietly released a new Battlefield 2042 update across consoles and PC. With the timing exactly the day when Battlefield 6’s multiplayer is revealed, you’d be correct to assume the two are connected.

Players will see the patch download appear as Battlefield 2042 update version 1.000.076/1.73, but don’t expect much out of this update, as it doesn’t seem to address anything other than to let players know that Battlefield 6 is arriving soon.

DICE Begins Promoting Battlefield 6 In Other Battlefield Games

Traditionally, whenever a new Battlefield game is announced, DICE will let players across all active Battlefield games know that there’s a new game. Battlefield 6 is no exception to this rule, as the studio released a new update for Battlefield 2042 earlier today. They shared no notes on what exactly it did, but players didn’t really need them, as upon logging in, they were greeted with a Battlefield 6 countdown timer and banner, with a link to the platform’s respective storefronts for pre-ordering.

Additionally, a new Battlefield 6 tab has been added to the menu, which displays the same information as above.

We can’t say we’re surprised, as DICE always does this for their current Battlefield game whenever a new one is released. Still, it’s nice to see and inform the players who may not have been aware of the new one. Hard to believe that’s possible, but who knows?

As we look ahead to the release of Battlefield 6, we suspect that DICE will drop the extensive technical support for Battlefield 2042 as they put all their focus on the new one. Especially since Battlefield 6 already seems to be resonating with the fanbase a lot more than Battlefield 2042, which is even more evident in our hands-on Battlefield 6 preview, where we highlight the franchise’s return to form. Only time will tell if that actually ends up being the case, but thankfully, we won’t have long to find out as Battlefield 6 launches this October.

The First Berserker: Khazan Update 1.015.016 Fixes New Gold Exploit

The First Berserker: Khazan update 1.015.016 is now available to download, and it’s a minor one addressing a recently discovered gold exploit.

Here are the details of what’s included in this update.

The First Berserker: Khazan Update 1.015.016 Patch Notes

Early this month, The First Berserker released an update that added a new Convert Scaling system that allowed players to reroll weapon scaling options. While it mainly worked as intended, a significant bug was introduced that allowed players to receive an insane amount of gold.

With the release of this update, this bug has now been patched.

  • Fixed an issue where spamming the convert scaling button resulted in gaining an abnormal amount of gold when the gold balance was insufficient.

Nothing more to it than that, though we are expecting even more patches to roll out as they continue to work on addressing known and new issues.

After 14 Years, We Finally Have a New Katamari Game

Nintendo had many surprises today during their Nintendo Direct showcase, and while many exciting new titles, such as Cronos: The New Dawn, were confirmed for the Switch 2, perhaps the biggest surprise (at least to me) was the announcement of a brand-new Katamari game.

You read right, after 14 long years, our favorite prince is back for another new grand adventure, Once Upon A Katamari.

Get Ready to Roll This October

Once Upon A KATAMARI will be rolling out on October 24, 2025, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch. As a bonus, players who have saves from either Katamari Damacy REROLL or We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie will be able to unlock a playable Young King.

About the game (via Steam)

Once upon a time a katamari rolled through both past and present.

In this story across time, the adage endures: Let The Good Times Roll!

Now onward through new worlds to roll up thy heart’s desires and to restore the stars!

  • A Shiny New Katamari Damacy Adventure Awaits – Experience new stages and a fabulous new soundtrack! Behold a fresh rolling experience, with never-before-seen support tools like the magnet to draw in nearby objects! How…attractive!
  • Roll Through the Ages – The King was so well-behaved until he mistakenly crushed the Earth, the Moon, and numerous planets while fiddling with a peculiar scroll. Now roll your katamari through the Jurassic Era, Ice Age, historic Japan, and more eras to rebuild the sky’s dazzling field of stars.
  • Keep the Family Close With Cousin Customization – Play as The Prince, or choose among his 68 cousins and kin to play as. Customize their colors and faces to create as many original Cousin designs as there are stars in the sky.
  • Compete in Celestial 4-Player KatamariBall – Conquer the game of KatamariBall, the galactic sport of choice across the Cosmos! Compete online against cousins around the world, or hone your skills with scintillating offline play against CPU opponents.

Some of you might laugh about these games, but there’s a good reason why they’re so revered and I cannot wait to see what the studio has built with this new iteration. Let’s just hope they haven’t lost their magic touch.

The physical PS5 version will also retail at $59.99 USD, but in addition to being physical, this version of the game will also come with some extra bonuses.

Not a bad deal for PS5 gamers, and definitely a massive incentive to get the physical version over the digital, even if you can play a tad earlier with the digital deluxe edition.

Cronos: The New Dawn launches on September 5, 2025, on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and now, the Nintendo Switch 2. Oh, and in case you haven’t already, be sure to read our first hands-on impression of Cronos: The New Dawn to find out why it might just be one of this year’s best horror games.

Our interview with Bloober Team regarding Cronos should be hitting the site soon, so stay tuned.

Battlefield 6 Classes – Abilities, Signature Weapon and Trait and Training Options Explained

In Battlefield 6, players will be able to choose from four different classes to play as, which will determine how they can contribute to their team’s success.

While Battlefield 6 will feature the franchise’s now-standard four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon, each class has different abilities, signature weapon and signature trait associated with each. Before anyone reacts negatively with the word “abilities,” this isn’t the same as Battlefield 2042’s, so there’s no semblance of the game being a hero shooter.

These abilities are more about what each class can do that the other classes can’t. Not only that, but there are also Training Options available as well, which act as passive bonuses for classes over the course of the match.

Battlefield 6 Class Roles Explained

MP1st was invited by EA to take part in the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal. Alongside that, we were also given direct info on the game’s mechanics, which include an explanation of the classes.

Without further ado, here’s a “cheat sheet” on what each class can do and their corresponding bonuses and abilities,

ASSAULT – CHARGE/CONTROL

ROLE – The ultimate frontline fighter, designed to lead the team through enemy defenses.

SIGNATURE WEAPON – Assault Rifle
Faster transition from sprint to firing and switching to and from Assault Rifles

SIGNATURE TRAIT – Reduced damage and movement speed penalty resulting from a fall.

SIGNATURE GADGET – Adrenaline Injector: Clears and gives temporary resistance to flash and stun effects, boost sprint speed, reduces explosive damage and makes enemy footsteps more audible.

ACTIVE ABILITY – Nearby enemies that are audible become revealed for the player, with kills prolonging the effect.

TRAINING OPTIONS
⯈⯈ Grenadier: These units have quicker reloads on grenade launchers, can carry extra grenades, and are more resistant to flash effects.
⯈⯈ Frontliner: These soldiers have improved health regeneration, an additional adrenaline injector charge, and reduced penalty when shooting on the move.

SUPPORT – PROTECT//SUPPLY

ROLE  – Every squad’s go-to option for defense, Support units keep the team in the fight with ammo, health, and revives.

SIGNATURE WEAPON –Light Machine Guns
Does not suffer sprint speed penalty with this weapon type

SIGNATURE TRAIT – Can drag & revive teammates faster

SIGNATURE GADGET – Supply Bag: Heals allies and resupplies weapon and gadget ammo.

ACTIVE ABILITY – Supply area of effect around self and revive speed is temporarily increased

TRAINING OPTIONS
⯈⯈ Combat Medic: These units are able to function as a health dispensary for allies and also regenerate health when they’re reviving teammates.
⯈⯈ Fire Support: These combat experts have improved weapon control from mounted positions and can provide ammo to teammates.

ENGINEER – WRECK//REPAIR

ROLE – This expert is a menace to enemy vehicles and a savior for your own.

SIGNATURE WEAPON -Sub Machine Guns
Improved hip-fire control

SIGNATURE TRAIT – Take reduced damage from explosives

SIGNATURE GADGET – Repair Tool: Multitool for fixing friendly assets and armor. Can also be used to damage enemy assets.

ACTIVE ABILITY – Overloads repair tool to fix with enhanced efficiency

TRAINING OPTIONS
⯈⯈ Anti-Armor: A master of wreaking havoc on enemy vehicles with rockets that reduce repair effectiveness as well as extra ammunition and faster reloads for launchers.
⯈⯈ Combat Engineer: An expert dedicated to keeping everything in pristine shape. This soldier auto generates health of vehicles they’re occupying, are able to use their repair tool longer before overheating, and can automatically spot nearby mines.

RECON – REVEAL//CONCEAL

ROLE – Experts in intelligence and counterintelligence, recon units excel
at scouting, infiltration, and deadly marksmanship.

SIGNATURE WEAPON – Sniper Rifles
Faster rechambering between shots, decreased scope sway and improved breath control to help stabilize aim for longer.

SIGNATURE TRAIT – Automatically spot enemies while aiming through an optic

SIGNATURE GADGET – Motion Sensor: This gadget tracks enemy movement in its range.

ACTIVE ABILITY – Call in UAV to a marked position for passive spotting of enemies

TRAINING OPTIONS
⯈⯈ Sniper: These long-distance engagement experts have improved auto-spot speed, range, and duration. Sniper shots will highlight enemies and temporarily prevent healing while headshots will render the struck enemy unrevivable.
⯈⯈ Pathfinder: These infiltration-focused commandos are undetectable by equipment except when they’re sprinting, highlight enemies they damage for the rest of the team, and can perform quieter takedowns.

You should also check out the confirmed maps and modes that will be available at launch.

Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10, and its open beta schedule has been revealed along with the game’s different editions.

Battlefield 6 is Bringing Back BF Portal in a Big New Way

In case you didn’t know, Battlefield Portal is coming back again for Battlefield 6! Perhaps one of the best things about Battlefield 2042, Portal is coming back and it’s going to allow players to create their own Battlefield experiences within an editor for Battlefield 6 and share them with others to play.

However, this isn’t the same experience that you remember from Battlefield 2042, as Battlefield Portal has been overhauled into a new version, with even more powerful tools.

Battlefield 6’s Portal Mode Will Let You Edit Parts of the Map, and Even Change the Game’s Genre Completely

Battlefield Portal is getting a massive upgrade when it re-launches along with Battlefield 6 this October. While it aims to continue delivering a unique, customizable experience for creators to create their own set of rules, a new Spatial Editor, powered by GODOT, is being introduced to the mode that will give creators even more power in terms of what they can customize. Creators will be able to edit the playspaces of existing maps and elements, with the ability to move some objects around.

Not only that, but Portal is also getting new custom and AI scripting tools that will allow you to create unique UIs and script NPCs’ behavior. Although we didn’t get to see it in action, the team provided some images (above) demonstrating just how insane the upgraded Portal can get, as you can see a tower built out of stacks of blocks. They’ve also shared some examples of some experiences that they created, and if you thought someone was making a Battle Royale-like mode in 2042 with the limited tools back then was crazy, get ready to be blown away with some of these examples, as it’s suggested that this new version of Portal will allow even crazier types of games.

Some examples that the team listed were:

  • A horde-like mode that allows players to buy weapons from a buy screen, and survive rounds against enemy AI (Call of Duty Zombie, anyone?)
  • An experience with a custom UI that delivers a classic “arcade-style” puzzle mode.
  • Some verified community experiences, such as Conquest, except that there are no vehicles.
  • An experience that plays like a top-down 2D shooter. Yes, you read right, sometime this year, you’re probably going to find yourself playing a top-down Battlefield game.
  • An experience where players scale a tall tower, attempting to reach the top, similar to the image above.

This is just what they were able to build. Think about just how crazy things will actually get once the community has their hands on it. Hopefully, it’s a mode that gets consistent updates, as that was one of my biggest complaints about it in Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 6 is set to arrive on October 10, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Check out the open beta schedule and pricing of the different editions revealed by EA.

Battlefield 6 Maps and Modes Available at Launch

With Battlefield 6 now fully revealed, more info about the game has surfaced. EA not only invited MP1st to get some early hands-on time with Battlefield 6, but also on official information about the upcoming shooter.

We can finally share with you all the confirmed list of maps and modes that will be available come its October 10 launch.

Fans can expect the return of some of the series’ most popular modes, featuring maps set in locations from all over the world, including one unexpected remake.

List of Battlefield 6 Maps and Modes

For those wondering, Battlefield 6 will be launching with nine maps and eight modes, as well as Portal, with more planned to arrive post-launch during each season. The map count is comparable to that of past Battlefield games, except for Battlefield 4, which launched with 10 maps, and Battlefield 2042, which launched with seven maps.

So let’s start with the confirmed modes, which include fan favorites such as Rush and Conquest, as well as some new modes to the series.

All Battlefield 6 Modes

  • Conquest – It’s all-out warfare, with jets, tanks, and helicopters in full play. Two teams battle it out for capture points while trying to deplete each other’s resources until only one team is left standing.
  • Breakthrough – Similar to Rush, only the map is divided into sectors with capture points that attackers must get and hold down all at the same time in order to progress the match.
  • Rush – Attackers vs Defenders, where one time arms a bomb, while the other defends. If the attackers are successful, the round advances on to the next sector of the map, until all lives are run out, or the attackers win.
  • Squad Deathmatch – Four squads compete against each other.
  • Domination – Infantry-only mode where teams fight for points to hold, to earn score.
  • Team Deathmatch – A classic game mode where the only thing that matters is kills.
  • King of the Hill – Close-quarters battle where players fight for a single control point, which moves after a certain amount of time.
  • Escalation – A new experience to the Battlefield franchise that sees two teams battle it out for control points. However, as a team expands its territory, fewer control points will remain, eventually becoming a battle for the last points.

Also returning is a revamped Portal that will feature even more options, as well as a returning server browser and playlist. The updated version of Portal will allow players to edit playspaces and move around certain elements of an existing map. There’s new custom and AI scripting, which will allow players to create unique UI and even have NPCs.  With Portal, the possibilities are nearly endless, and players will be able to craft almost any mode they desire.

Some examples that the team listed were:

  • A horde-like mode that allows players to buy weapons from a buy screen, and survive rounds against enemy AI (Call of Duty Zombie, anyone?)
  • An experience with a custom UI that delivers an “arcade-style” puzzle mode.
  • Some verified community experiences, such as Conquest, except with no vehicles.
  • An experience that plays like a top-down 2D shooter.
  • An experience where players scale a tall tower, attempting to reach the top (image below).

The server browser is also returning for the Portal.

All Battlefield 6 Maps Available at Launch

  • Empire State
  • Iberian Offensive
  • Mirak Valley
  • Liberation Peak
  • Manhattan Bridge
  • New Sobek City
  • Operation Firestorm
  • Saints Quarter
  • Siege of Cairo

In addition, some of the maps will feature different variations depending on the mode played. Siege of Cairo, for example, has a Conquest and a team Deathmatch version. However, these two versions of the map aren’t 1:1 to each other, as Battlefield Studios has crafted combat zones to maximize the quality of each map. You can expect the placement of objects to be different, and even the scale of destruction and how it reacts to play differently between each map variation. So while the list only consists of nine maps, there are multiple variations of each, each catered to whatever mode they support.

More about the maps:

Empre State

An infantry-only map set in the streets of Brooklyn.

Iberian Offensive

Set in Gibraltar, players can expect plenty of alleyways, winding streets, and buildings to destroy for tactical advantages.

Kundara Valley

This is the largest map at launch, and a perfect map for all-out warfare.

Liberation Peak

Set in the mountainside of Tajikistan, players can expect plenty of cover and height advantage, as jets and helicopters battle it out, and tanks roam below.

Manhattan Bridge

Said to feature large-scale destruction, Manhattan Bridge will feature intense close-quarter combat, as attack helicopters take to the skies.

New Sobek City

All-out war wages in the outskirts of Cairo’s suburbs, featuring construction sites and massive sand dunes.

Operation Firestorm

Battlefield veterans will no doubt recognize this following map, as it’s a remake of the classic Battlefield 3 map.

Saints Quarter

Set in an old town in Gibraltar, Saints Quarter is a close-quarters infantry-only map that will feature destructible buildings.

Siege of Cairo

Set in the streets of Central Cairo, Siege of Cairo will see players battle it out in an intense urban setting. Battle it out in alleyways, and duck in and out of buildings as tanks roam around, destroying all in their path.

As mentioned before, you can expect even more maps and modes to arrive with each new season, with the first season of Battlefield 6 arriving soon after the game’s launch.

Battlefield 6 arrives on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, on October 10, 2025.

Battlefield 6 Hands-On Multiplayer Preview – Class Is Back in Session

EA has begun its media blitz for the next major installment of one of its largest shooters. They have just wrapped up a live Battlefield 6 multiplayer showcase, and MP1st was among several other outlets and streamers to get some hands-on time ahead of the showcase.

We managed to try out some of the game’s multiplayer modes, maps, loadouts, and more. Is Battlefield back? We’ve got our initial impressions ready right now, so read on to find out.

Frostbitten Glory

EA made it clear from the start: Battlefield 6 is an all-hands-on-deck revamp of their long-running franchise. Development has been spread out in various capacities to not one, not two, but four teams: Criterion Games, DICE, Motive, and Ripple Effect (formerly known as DICE LA). Each team’s area of expertise is utilized for whichever portion of the game they are suited best for, whether that’s networking knowledge, engine programming, or something else. Collectively, this team is known as Battlefield Studios. It will be interesting to see if this development strategy pays dividends.

The Frostbite engine has been EA’s de facto game engine across essentially all of their titles, and as it had its roots with Battlefield: Bad Company, there was never any doubt that it’d be used for Battlefield 6. Running on the provided i7-14700KF CPU mixed with an RTX 5070 12GB GPU and other suitable hardware, Battlefield 6 ran buttery smooth in 1440p resolution, while also being perhaps the best-looking Battlefield game ever. Every map was highly detailed: we played on Liberation Peak, a mountainous region of Tajikistan, the desert arena that is the Siege of Cairo, a very famous street in the New York setting of Empire State, and finally a trek through Gibraltar’s winding roads in the Iberian Offensive.

It also wouldn’t be a Battlefield game if destruction wasn’t a prominent feature, and Battlefield 6’s new and improved tactical destruction mechanics didn’t disappoint. You can destroy a lot of every map, and in many different ways too. C4 on a stubborn wall works perfectly well, and so does shooting through an electrical panel to get to an enemy hiding behind it. Taking out the floor from beneath a group of enemies is awesome – well, I suppose it sounds awesome, anyway, as such a situation didn’t present itself during our session, however I did at least test out destroying an entire floor, which worked exceedingly well.

Check Out These Modes

We also played through a handful of the modes that will be available at launch. Conquest tasks two teams with capturing and holding multiple control points on the map which will drain the other team’s resources the more points that are held. The first team to lose all their resources loses. Breakthrough features an attacking team, with limited respawns per sector, attempting to hold all control points within a sector before they run out of respawns, while the defending team, with unlimited respawns, must try to stop them. Squad Deathmatch is a classic 4v4v4v4 squad contest to get to a certain kill count first. Finally, Domination pushes you to “play the objective” as you aim to earn your team points by capturing and holding objectives. As today’s event was focused on multiplayer, we did not see any single-player options in our build of Battlefield 6, besides a shooting range option when modifying loadouts. There are also more modes that were not shown today: Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Rush, and Escalation.

Classes are back in Battlefield 6. After experimenting with Specialists in 2021’s Battlefield 2042, EA has incorporated fan feedback and reintroduced the classic Battlefield classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon, albeit with some tweaks. While you can still pick any weapon no matter which class you choose, each class offers “Signature” buffs which are designed to work in tandem with the primary weapon they typically use. For instance, when the Assault class is equipped with their usual assault rifle, they exhibit a faster transition from sprinting to firing, which can be crucial when you come around the corner only to face a sprinting enemy, as usually whoever can manage to fire off the first shots can often win such matchups. However, no other class will receive this buff if they equip the assault rifle. Thus, playing with the weapon your chosen class is designed to utilize is incentivized.

Signature Options

Each class also has signature gadgets, such as the Engineer’s repair tool, which can be used to repair friendly vehicles as well as to damage those belonging to the enemy. They also have unique active abilities, which allow such actions as the Recon class calling in a UAV to a marked location, which will spot enemies’ whereabouts within that area. The longer a match goes on, the more some passive abilities will also level up, culminating in a signature ability.

There are vehicles aplenty in Battlefield 6. There are quads, transports, attack helicopters, fighter jets, and more. Maps which support vehicles were clearly built with them in mind, such as the Siege of Cairo, encouraging a deadly game of cat and mouse, with fast-moving infantry ducking into and out of random buildings in a spawling desert town. At the same time, the tanks attempt to mow everything down before being taken out by a rocket (or five). With the aforementioned “Hitch a ride” feature, you and at least three of your teammates can tag along so you can all get to the objective more quickly, even if it means some of them have to dangle off the back of the vehicle.

A new traversal system has been introduced in Battlefield 6. Dubbed the kinesthetic combat system, it sports several features that are new to the franchise which can help you keep moving while engaged in combat. This is a good thing, because if you stay still too long in a battlefield, you’re likely to get hit. One of the most easily appreciated features is the ability to move while healing a downed teammate. This came in handy so many times during our time with Battlefield 6, since while it’s always a risk to revive a teammate, there is now a possibility to lessen that risk by moving into a more secure spot. Mounting weapons on cover can help anyone, but especially the support class with its large machine gun. Peek and leaning around corners will help to improve your odds when going down a blind alley or around a staircase. “Hitch a ride” allows for more players to “ride” on a vehicle transport by simply hanging on their back, which at first seemed hilarious but quickly proved useful as a legitimate way to travel when the only other option would be on foot. Combat rolls help to avoid fall damage, and even enemy fire if you’re lucky. New recoil feedback is also implemented in an effort to teach players how to minimize its effects. All of this adds up to a Battlefield that feels as good as it looks.

There is seemingly no area of Battlefield which was left untouched by the dev teams. Maps now feature something called combat zones, which alter the map’s layout depending on the game mode being played. An example given is the Siege of Cairo: its Conquest mode version would include the same section of the map which is used in Team Deathmatch, but how destruction is utilized, object placement, and other considerations are made when re-using the map in other modes. So, each map offers variety to switch things up when moving modes.

Immense Power

Last but not least, EA briefly showcased improvements to its Portal application. We saw an editor that looked a bit like a typical game development IDE, and were told that it features a spatial editor, to precisely move objects within a map, as well as new custom options and AI scripting, which let you control enemy NPCs. Some examples of custom creations shown involved flying tanks, crazy floating architecture, and even what looked like a platforming challenge to not fall off a supremely-high concrete structure, in the same vein as hilarious co-op game Chained Together. EA ended their segment on Portal by saying “Create, Share, and Play.” I was immediately reminded of Media Molecule’s incredible LittleBigPlanet series, and their slogan of “Play, Create, Share,” and just how powerful those tools were – with the way EA described Portal, it seems they are aiming to support an entire ecosystem of custom creations. One key way they are doing so is that, provided certain parameters are met, even playing custom levels can contribute to your overall player progression. This is not too common to see in games, because usually custom modes turn off progression. But limiting the progression to only levels which conform to a certain set of settings helps to ensure we don’t end up with a ton of levels that exist only to earn you XP, which is definitely a risk with any user generated content.

The many teams working on Battlefield 6 seem to be taking fan feedback heavily into consideration. From the handful of hours we logged, it does feel like the series is moving in a good direction; one that is true to the origins of Battlefield, but also one that includes a number of improvements in traversal, gunplay, and options.

Get ready for Battlefield 6’s launch on October 10, 2025 on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Battlefield 6 Launches October 10; Open Beta Schedule, Different Editions Revealed

DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have finally given us our first look at Battlefield 6 today! While the multiplayer reveal was a sight to behold, there are a lot more BF6 bombs that dropped today.

As part of the multiplayer reveal event that MP1st took part in yesterday, the studio also revealed Battlefield 6’s release date, confirmed the open beta schedule, and even outlined the different editions players will be able to pre-0rder and buy for the shooter.

First, the big one: the rumors were true, Battlefield 6 is officially launching on October 10, 2025!

Pre-orders will be going live soon on all platforms, but in the meantime, here’s a list of available editions, pricing, and the first official dates for the open beta.

Battlefield 6 Open Beta Tests Begin in August With Two Rounds

By now, many of you have seen the full multiplayer reveal trailer for Battlefield 6, which not only confirmed the release date but also confirmed that EA and the Battlefield Studios will be hosting open betas ahead of the game’s release. Exactly when, you ask? Well, a lot sooner than you think, as you’ll get to be able to play Battlefield 6 as early as next month! Here are the dates when the open beta starts, which is split into two weekends

  • Weekend 1: August 9-August 10
  • Weekend 2: August 14-August 17

This is being dubbed as the series’ biggest open beta, running for a total of six days throughout two weekends, and available to play on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5|PS5 Pro. EA and the Battlefield Studios will have more to share about the open beta as we approach the release dates.

As for the game’s available editions, it appears that Battlefield 6 won’t be launching with a Collector’s Edition, but will instead offer two: the Standard Edition and the Phantom Edition. Here’s what’s included in the Phantom Edition, as well as platform-specific pricing:

Battlefield 6: Different Editions and Pricing Info

Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition Content

  • Battlefield 6
  • An exclusive “Phantom Squad” Soldier Skin Pack
  • 2 High-performance weapon packages
  • 1 vehicle skin
  • 1 Combat Knife Skin
  • 1 Token for Battlefield Pro
  • Season 1 package that inccludes:
    • Battle Pass
    • 25 Tier Skips
    • Exclusive cosmetics

  • Standard Edition: $69.99 / €79.99 / GBP 69.99
  • Phantom Edition: $99.99 / €109.99/ GBP 99.99

As you can see, Battlefield 6 will be priced at the current standard pricing of games, that being $70, rather than opting to $80 like some titles are beginning to. No surprise by that, since it was confirmed yesterday by EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, during the company’s earnings call.

If you’re looking for more Battlefield 6 news, be sure to check out our hub page, which will soon include our first hands-on with the game, along with gameplay videos and other confirmed details.
