Contrary to what some people might think, it’s not easy to develop a game based on an existing and beloved license. Not only are there expectations from the brand’s fans, but you have to know when to get elements from the universe, and when to make your own mark. Cold Iron Studios is the latest game developer who has that problem, as the team has just released Aliens Fireteam Elite — a PvP third-person shooter based on the Alien franchise.
Before launch, we had the opportunity to speak to the studio about the game, Answering the questions is Craig Zinkievich, Head of Cold Iron Studios.
MP1st: Any details on the exchanges that made it possible to include elements from Creative Assembly’s Alien Isolation?
Zinkievich: When we started on Aliens: Fireteam Elite we got the freedom to draw inspiration from whatever existed in the Alien universe — not just the movies, but the video games, novels, comics, action figures… everything! As huge fans of the franchise, that was like being kids in the candy shop. We wanted to make sure we pulled elements from all our favorite Alien media and experiences. Along with tons of other familiar and deep lore references, we knew “Working Joes” just had to make that list.
MP1st: There are a lot of different enemy types in Aliens Fireteam Elite, but the big one we didn’t notice were facehuggers. Are they in? If not, what was the reason behind not including them?
Zinkievich: There are four campaigns in Aliens: Fireteam Elite; each one taking place in a different environment and telling a part of the story around LV-895. Each of the campaigns also introduces new enemies into the game.
Facehuggers and Xenomorph Eggs tend to stick closer to a “Hive” rather than just being strewn about. It’s pretty hard to imagine an Aliens game without such iconic enemies. (wink wink)
MP1st: For the AI is there some sort of director, kind of like L4D? In some of our runs we did notice the Prowler would spawn in different spots, and sometimes other Xenomorphs would come out from different vents, or sides of a room versus in the previous run.
Zinkievich: There is definitely a lot of variety in the way the game is populated so that you get new and different experiences each time – even if you’re running through on the same difficulty.
Yes, there is a series of heuristics and algorithms behind the scenes that help make sure that the gameplay experience continues to be exciting and your Fireteam is pushed forward.
MP1st: The challenge cards were a really enjoyable way of changing up the gameplay and adding a helping hand or steep challenge. Any plans to allow multiple cards to stack at once so that players can really push the limits of their teamwork?
Zinkievich: When we designed the system, we looked at stacking cards versus just one active card. We found that if you stack modifiers, you become really limited in what you can do before most combos become situations where cards either cancel each other out, break the game, or just plain become un-fun. We went with a single active card, because we wanted to do the craziest “What If” things possible.
MP1st: We didn’t get the chance to try out Horde Mode, what can you tell us about it?
Zinkievich: We plan to reveal more information about Horde Mode closer to launch. Be sure to stay tuned for details.
MP1st: What are the plans for supporting the game in the long term insofar as new maps, gear, or game modes?
Zinkievich: We’ve already revealed that the Deluxe Edition comes with “…four additional cosmetic DLC bundles – that will be released alongside upcoming free major gameplay updates.” But we plan on sharing more details about the post-launch road map closer to launch.
MP1st: Are we by any chance going to see some classic character skins, such as Hicks and the rest of the cast from Aliens?
Zinkievich: Aliens: Fireteam Elite is all about you creating your own marine, leveling them up and customizing them through their own experiences.
MP1st: Alongside Aliens Fireteam, there’s Back 4 Blood, Rainbow Six Extraction, and other co-op, PvE-focused shooters. Why the sudden re-emergence or was it all just a coincidence?
Zinkievich: I think the Co-op Survival Shooter is a beloved genre that hasn’t seen enough support over the past few years. For us, it’s a genre we love and it’s the perfect gameplay for an Aliens experience. Perhaps other game developers wanted more of these games, too. I’m excited to see how each one helps move the genre forward!
We’d like to thankt Cold Iron Studios for taking time out of their busy schedule to talk to MP1st! You can read our review of Aliens Fireteam Elite here. Aliens Fireteam Elite is out now on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The coolest and baddest garden snail in the universe is officially coming out soon, as Weird Beluga Studio has revealed the Clid the Snail release date with another banging trailer. It’s a recap of sorts to how Clid’s misadventures will play out, and gives players something to look forward to next week as Clid the Snail releases first on the PlayStation 4 this August 31. Check out the latest trailer below.
In case you missed out on this wonderfully absurd new title, here’s some information on Clid the Snail:
Clid The Snail is an innovative top-down shooter with a narrative focus and a methodical, mindful approach to combat. Players will join the troublesome snail Clidand help him and a peculiar gang of outcasts defeat the slug plague that is ravaging their world.
In addition to a delightfully grim environment to explore, players will experience a vast array of weapons, mechanics, and puzzles that will encourage creative and strategic gunplay.
MP1st had the wonderful opportunity to preview this game firsthand, and you can find our thoughts on this gameplay preview here. We also had an interview with Weird Beluga Studio, developers of the game, to know more about their inspiration for this brand-new title.
Clid the Snail is releasing on August 31 for the PlayStation 4. A PC version via Steam is releasing later this year.
Cold Symmetry has released the Mortal Shell update 1.11 patch, and this seems to fix a few bugs that came with the game’s latest DLC, The Virtuous Cycle. For the full list of fixes, head on eblow.
– Twin-Sister’s dialogues when acquiring a new Instinct can now be skipped with the mouse
– Fixed an audio-related bug that was causing crashes on PC
– The user can now progress from the Seed Window at the end of a cycle with the mouse by clicking the “Continue” button
– Axatana Weapon Abilities should no longer get interrupted by the shield bash from Gragu or kick attacks from vampires
– Solomon’s Accretion of Inheritance ability should now work correctly when equipped by Hadern
– Fixed the “hidden mouse cursor” bug that affected the “New Instinct Acquired” window
– The user can no longer gain resolve from Axatana Weapon Abilities
That seems to be it. Mind, the developer has tagged this for PC, and if the console versions have a different set off fixes, we’ll update the post.
While we haven’t seen any new official gameplay or details for Battlefield 2042 released this gamescom, there’s still new info surfacing thanks to dataminers. This time, we see some of the Battlefield 2042 ammo types players can use for their weapons, a new vehicle we’ve yet to see in the trailers, and more.
Once again, this is brought to us by reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal, who dug up some interesting new info regarding DICE’s upcoming shooter.
Here are some types of ammunition for primary & secondary weapons in #Battlefield 2042.
Looks like we'll be getting interesting options like a KRISS Vector with 🔉 subsonic ammo or M44 with 🧨 explosive rounds. Of course there will be a certain amount of balancing restrictions. pic.twitter.com/npLbwuAIB1
Very interesting to see some of the controversial ammo types coming back. That said, we don’t know if all these will be in the game at launch or in its lifecycle, given it is datamined info after all, and nothing has been confirmed.
Another thing new datamined is the reference to the Panhard Crab vehicle.
As far as I know, this 4×4 armoured combat vehicle can't be spotted in trailers or screenshots. Atm there is no model or customization info available. The beta might provide additional details on its potential loadout. pic.twitter.com/KssNWqMXc7
Finally, a bunch of game modes that can be played on the Orbital map has surfaced too!
Below you can find a list of supported game modes in #Battlefield 2042 based on the Orbital playtest map.
The Portal modbuilder entries allow you to create various "Team1 vs Team2" or "Free-for-all" setups and they might cover different map sizes or playable areas (speculation). pic.twitter.com/qQUafZHqQo
Again, just as a disclaimer, nothing here has been confirmed by DICE nor EA, so don’t be upset if we don’t see all the ammo types listed. These could be leftover code that wasn’t meant to be seen by regular joes like us.
For more datamined content, head on for the links below.

With Halo Infinite confirmed to arrive later this year on December 8, 2021, there’s a piece of information that PC gamers will want on hand before the game’s official launch, and that is their rig can handle this monstrous new game. If you’re looking for answers, then you’ve come to the right place, as the Steam page for the game finally revealed the Halo Infinite PC requirements, both the Recommended and Minimum. Check them out below.
Minimum:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 RS3 x64
Processor: AMD FX-8370 or Intel i5-4440
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD RX 570 or Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 50 GB available space
Recommended:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 19H2 x64
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700k
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Radeon RX 5700 XT or Nvidia RTX 2070
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 50 GB available space
Surprisingly enough, it would appear that even a graphics card as old as the 1050 Ti will still be able to handle the demands of Halo Infinite. However, what’s troubling is that it lists an RTX 2070 as the actual recommended card, which is a very far cry from the former. The good news is that for PC players still struggling with exorbitant GPU pricing, if you can bear with having lower settings to meet the PC gaming minimum of 60fps then the game would be extremely playable even on something lower-end.
Halo Infinite is coming to Xbox consoles and Windows 10 PCs on December 8, 2021.

Overwatch players who are fans of a certain futuristic gunslinger are going to have to expect changes, as the upcoming Overwatch McCree name change is explained by Blizzard!
For those unaware, McCree is the name of a Blizzard employee, which, sadly, was one of the people named in the on-going Activision-Blizzard lawsuit.
Here’s the statement released by Blizzard addressing the reasons for the name change for McCree sent via press release.
Hello there,
The Overwatch team has issued a statement regarding plans to change the name of the character known as McCree. Please see their post below.
We built the Overwatch universe around the idea that inclusivity, equity, and hope are the building blocks of a better future. They are central to the game and to the Overwatch team.
As we continue to discuss how we best live up to our values and to demonstrate our commitment to creating a game world that reflects them, we believe it’s necessary to change the name of the hero currently known as McCree to something that better represents what Overwatch stands for.
We realize that any change to such a well-loved and central hero in the game’s fiction will take time to roll out correctly, and we’ll share updates as this work progresses. In the near term, we had planned to kick off a narrative arc in September supported with new story and game content, of which McCree was a key part. Since we want to integrate this change into that story arc, we will be delaying the new arc until later this year and instead launch a new FFA map this September.
Going forward, in-game characters will no longer be named after real employees and we will be more thoughtful and discerning about adding real world references in future Overwatch content. This will help reinforce that we’re building a fictional universe that is unmistakably different from the real world and better illustrates that the creation of Overwatch is truly a team effort.
Work on these updates is underway, and they are just a part of our ongoing commitment to honest reflection and making whatever changes are necessary to build a future worth fighting for. We know that actions speak louder than words, and we hope to show you our commitment to making Overwatch a better experience in-game and continue to make our team the best it can be.

Phoenix Labs has released the Dauntless update 1.65 patch this August 26, and this is tagged as title update 1.7.3 by the studio. This adds a new map, new Omnicell, and more. Check out the complete patch notes below.
The Ostians have returned to a sprawling facility on this Hunting Grounds island for mysterious purposes. Expect to face extremely powerful Behemoths while discovering twisted secrets. Two new island events are available in The Blazeworks: Poison Personality and Infernal Gaze.
NEW OMNICELL: TEMPEST
1.7.3 marks the introduction of Tempest, a new omnicell that allows you to capitalize on high movement speed and maneuverability to outwit your foes. You can unlock Tempest alongside Bastion and Iceborne on the Slayer’s Path at level VII.
Passive: Attack speed +10%.
Dodging through an attack grants a stack of Velocity.
Each stack lasts 45 seconds and increases movement speed by 3%.

REPEATERS REFRESH
The Ostian repeaters refresh brings a number of gameplay adjustments and quality of life improvements to our first ranged weapon. If you crafted repeaters prior to 1.7.3, you will see a full refund for all your crafting materials, including any aetherhearts and rams spent on power surging. In addition to streamlining the process, the new way of crafting repeaters will cost you fewer resources.

Borderlands creators Gearbox Entertainment Company officially announced the formation of a brand-new studio in Quebec, aptly called Gearbox Studio Montréal. This venture is a huge financial undertaking for Gearbox, as the company is expected to pour a CAD $200 million investment into the province of Quebec. It will also be Gearbox’s second major expansion in the last six years, with the company adding 250 tech-sector jobs to Montréal and bringing their total workforce number to 850 employees.
Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford had this to say on Gearbox Studio Montréal’s formation:
“The Gearbox Entertainment Company is ambitiously looking both internationally and domestically to grow our creative engine and meet the incredible demand our customers have for talent-crafted experiences with our intellectual property. Following our successful experience establishing Gearbox Studio Quebec, our investment in a new studio in Montreal creates an exciting new prospect for Montreal-based talent – whether they wish to work on existing Gearbox franchises, or help with the creation of new, original ideas. With Sébastien and Pierre-André’s leadership, I know the incredible local game development community will welcome Gearbox Studio Montreal and its balance between major studio muscle and local team culture as a needed addition to the city.”
It is unknown yet as to what projects will Gearbox Studio Montréal be undertaking, whether it’s a brand-new IP or something to continue the company’s highly successful Borderlands series. You can check out developments on the new studio here.

Developer New World Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive finally revealed more information on the upcoming and long-awaited console release for their squad-based tactical shooter, Insurgency: Sandstorm. As featured in an official new trailer, the Insurgency: Sandstorm console release date is set for September 29, with the game and three editions now available for pre-order on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One alongside forward compatibility for current-gen consoles. It’s worth noting that this exact date was leaked earlier by retailers, but it’s nice to have official confirmation from the developer and publisher nonetheless.
Check out the official console release date trailer for Insurgency: Sandstorm below.
First released on PC via Steam in 2018, Insurgency: Sandstorm is a team-based, tactical FPS based on lethal close quarters combat and objective-oriented multiplayer gameplay. It was originally planned to have simultaneous releases for both consoles and PC, but the former platforms have been delayed significantly. Now, after three years, players on PlayStation and Xbox will finally get to experience Insurgency: Sandstorm, which will come in three distinct editions, as per the official game description:
Pre-order Insurgency: Sandstorm, the Deluxe Edition, or the Gold Edition to receive the Warlord Gear Set and the Peacemaker Gear Set. The Deluxe Edition includes Insurgency: Sandstorm and the Year 1 Pass, while the Gold Edition includes the additional Year 2 Pass releasing throughout the year after release. Each Year Pass includes 16 cosmetic sets, with an extra 4 instant reward items for the Year 2 Pass.
While the game is fully compatible Day One with certain enhancements for current gen consoles, Insurgency: Sandstorm will receive further next-gen enhancements, with support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console features in 2022.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in September 29. The game is now available to play on PC via Steam.
We adjusted the Urska weapon’s legendary ability and the Ice Lance ability. Before, both abilities did not factor in the benefits from perk effects. With this change, damage output should remain roughly the same depending on your build.
