Roccat Burst Pro Gaming Mouse Review – Performance at a Click

Roccat impressed us with their Vulcan Pro Keyboard, but now it’s time to take a look at their latest PC gaming mouse, the Burst Pro, packed with the latest technology, the Titan Optical Switch. Is it worth the price tag? Read on for our Roccat Burst Pro gaming mouse review.

Beauty Is Simple

A big thing that stood out with the Roccat Burst Pro was how simple, yet beautiful it looked. While the last gaming mouse I reviewed, the Mad Catz RAT Pro X3 Supreme opted for a outlandish Lamborghini look (which I loved), the Roccat Burst Pro instead takes a more comfortable, tamer look, one akin to a sexy Porsche 911. It’s simple by aesthetics with it’s curvy sleek casing, all matted with a single color (white or black).

While I’m not one to be fond of RGB lighting, I really do enjoy it’s use in the Burst Pro. Focusing on areas such as the scroll wheel and lower portions, there’s enough lighting to give it a real pop without being overly flashy. I also love how the left and right clickers don’t obscurely protrude like many other gaming mouse’s, giving it a very comfortable feel.

The plastic material used helps a lot as well, as it has a very nice soft touch with some sections of it lightly texturized for grip. The scroll wheel has some rubber grooving around it, though offers a satisfying near zero resistance movement with light click feedback. Coupled with it’s lightweight and PTFE feet covering, the Burst Pro is a pretty strong choice when considering comfortability and weight. Of course, as with any hardware review we do the biggest factor is how well the device performs.

Effortless Precision at a Click

Much like the Roccat Vulcan Pro Keyboard, the Burst Pro also features the latest in ROCCAT technology, the Titan Optical Switch. While there’s really no way for me test out whether or not it does indeed offer more clicks than the traditional, mechanical input device, one thing is certain, the Burst Pro is insanely responsive.

Upon connecting the wire USB hook-up to my PC and trying out the mouse, I instantly noticed some smooth free range motion. Offering three modes of DPi (programmable via Swarm application,) movement in games like Doom Eternal, and recently released Project Wingman all felt buttery smooth.

With Project Wingman I was especially impressed seeing that I usually prefer using a controller for flight games. Being able to easily roll and pitch my aircraft was a satisfying feeling. This isn’t to say that the sensor found in the Burst Pro is along the top of the line, but it did it’s job and showed no issues in my testing.

What I found most impressive, however was the input of the actually button presses. The Titan Optical Switch really shows here as presses felt far more snappier with near zero latency. In fact, during my testing I was pretty confident that presses were being well registered before the mouse even made a click sound.

This is because Roccat has opted to use light (thus optical) instead of physical contact. This results in a more faster, responsive, and understandably, longer lasting experience that any PC gamer will certainly come to appreciate.

My only real nitpick is there doesn’t appear to be any additional mouse offering from Roccat  using the same technology. The Burst pro only has six  mappable buttons, which for MMO and strategy games this may not be the best mouse choice, despite it’s speed. We are sure there will be a newer line that caters to such market, but it’s an important detail for those looking to buy.

Low Entry, Premium Experience

With it’s extremely light weight, sleek, ergonomic design, the Roccat Burst Pro is truly a premium feeling experience, all at a respectable price ($59.99). Outside of no additional hardware lines being available, there isn’t a whole lot to dislike, if any at all. It may not gloat itself around with all the flashy bells and whistles that many other mouse have, but it certainly does what it sets out to do.

Pros:

  • Lightweight, sleek design that feels great
  • Comfy
  • Titan Optical Switch technology is a game changer, and hopefully this is the start to an excellent line.
  • Texturize grips

Cons:

  • Only six buttons are available, may not be the best mouse to use for certain gaming genre.

Hardware was provided by the publisher. Equipment tested on a desktop PC. You can read SP1st and MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here.

Ghost of Tsushima Update 1.20 February 5 Leaps Out (Update)

Samurai warriors, Sucker Punch Productions has released the Ghost of Tsushima update 1.20 February 5 patch today. This is a small download clocking in at just 620MB, so don’t expect any new major content.

Ghost of Tsushima Update 1.20 February 5 Patch Notes:

Update: Sucker Punch has acknowledged the patch and tweeted the following just now:

For now, Sucker Punch Productions has not commented on the patch or released any official notes. Here’s what the update history of the console says:

  • General bug fixes and improvements

Note that this is what most devs list down for their games, so there’s bound to be a specific fix in this patch (one can hope).

Given the recent updates, this is most likely connected to Ghost of Tsushima Legends (the game’s multiplayer mode) rather than change anything in the single-player campaign.

We’re on the look out for any new changes and will update the post if we or if the community) spot anything. Likewise, if you spot anything specific be it gameplay-related or a technical fix, let us know down in the comments below.

If you haven’t picked Ghost of Tsushima up yet, you might want to do so, as the game is so well crafted that it won MP1st’s Game of the Year award for 2020! You can read our review of the action game right here.

Update: Added Sucker Punch’s tweet confirming the new patch and what’s in it.

Activison: Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 Release Won’t Be Out This Year

While Activision might already have revealed both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 back in 2019, it seems both titles won’t be making it out in 2021!

During Activision’s quarterly earnings call, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Dennis Durkin confirmed that both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 release dates aren’t expected to hit this year. Sadly, that’s all we know so far. That said, prepare for more info to make its way throughout the day as more details regarding the earnings call are known.

Hopefully, while we won’t be able to play both games anytime soon, Activision will be able to share their official release dates soon.

Are you bummed that we won’t see both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 anytime this year or were you expecting it given Blizzard Entertainment’s notorious long dev cycles?

Thanks, ZhugeEX!

Tomb Raider Kicks Off 25th Anniversary Celebration; Logo Revealed

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are gearing up to celebrate 25 years of Lara Croft, as the two companies have kicked off the year long celebration of Tomb Raider’s 25th Anniversary — which begins with the unveiling of the official logo celebrating two and half decades of Lara and her adventures.

Here’s the celebration announcement courtesy of Square Enix’s press release

Tomb Raider’s star, famous archeologist-adventurer Lara Croft, has become a powerful force in the gaming industry and beyond, and has made an indelible mark on virtually every facet of entertainment. From being named an ambassador for scientific excellence to appearing live on tour with U2, Lara Croft has touched the lives of tens of millions of people around the world. With over 30 video game titles released and hundreds of awards, the heroine has been a cultural icon for 25 years on gaming screens and Hollywood silver screens alike, battling T-Rexes, unearthing ancient artifacts, and saving the world from an apocalypse or two. Lara has had adventures in dozens of countries, explored the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Andaman Seas, ventured to Antarctica and the Arctic Circle, and rediscovered Atlantis and the lost island of Yamatai.

“Over the last 25 years Tomb Raider has become more than a game and Lara Croft has risen to become a cultural icon,” said Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “We’re so proud to be a part of this rich tapestry of adventure, but we recognize the true credit belongs to the fans! The amazing Tomb Raider community has made all of this possible and we look forward to celebrating with them his historic milestone and for many decades to come.”

Tomb Raider’s year-long celebration of its 25th anniversary will feature in-depth explorations of the major games released in the franchise, including nostalgic media deep from the archives, developer interviews, community activities, live playthroughs, and more. Over the coming months, developer Crystal Dynamics will re-visit the lineup of major Tomb Raider games, focusing on one game each month. Fans of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft can look forward to additional franchise announcements over the course of the year.

On a related note, Netflix recently announced they are developing a Tomb Raider animated series that takes place after the events of the rebooted trilogy of games.

ZeniMax Media and Bethesda Founder and CEO Robert A. Altman Passes Away

Sad news has rocked the video game and entertainment industries, as ZeniMax Media and Bethesda Softworks founder and CEO Robert A. Altman has passed away — leaving behind a legacy that will undoubtedly be remembered and talked about by those who knew the man and his career.

Bethesda announced the news via their social media accounts, along with the following statement.

We are deeply saddened to tell you of the passing of Robert A. Altman, our Founder and CEO. He was a true visionary, friend, and believer in the spirit of people and the power of what they could accomplish together. He was an extraordinary leader, and an even better human being.

Originally a lawyer, Altman became the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of ZeniMax Media — the parent company of Bethesda. Altman was also married to actress Lynda Carter — who is popularly known as the original live-action Wonder Woman from the 70’s.

Altman’s death comes during a period when ZeniMax Media and Bethesda Softworks were being acquired by Microsoft in a deal that would definitely change things up for the company that owns Windows and Xbox. Dauntless Update 1.46 February 4 Is for Frost Escalation 1.5.3

Phoenix Labs has released another major content drop for Dauntless and it’s the Frost Escalation content drop! The Dauntless update 1.46 February 4 patch is live now and this is also called Dauntless patch 1.5.3 by the devs Head on below to see everything new in this title update.

Dauntless Update 1.46 February 4 Patch Notes (Frost Escalation 1.5.3):

FACE FRIGID FOES AND FEARSOME FIGHTS IN FROST ESCALATION
  • Frost Escalation launches with 1.5.3 on February 4.
  • Fight off the chilly frostbite status effect in Frost Escalation.
  • Face new Deepfrost Behemoth variants.
  • Power up your Escalation runs with avatar abilities.
  • Complete the Realm of Ice Hunt Pass.

THE BEST-LAID PLANS

In addition to overcoming Frost Escalation’s perilous Behemoths, you will need to actively manage your frostbite level during Escalation runs. While the Skaldish have a leg up due to their “snowblood” — a genetic mutation that makes them resistant to frostbite — you’re not so lucky.

Frostbite will carry over between encounters, and you’ll need to make the most of the new tools at your disposal … or risk defeat.

During a Frost Escalation run, you can view your frostbite level in the meter to the right of your health and stamina bars. The bar is made up of two components:

  • Frostbite bar – The bar starts at 0 (empty). As frostbite progresses, the bar fills up.
  • Frostbite icon – When your bar reaches the frostbite icon, you will be frozen in place until you (or a teammate) reduce your frostbite level to 75% or less.
Frostbite
Use every tool at your disposal to lower frostbite.

There are a number of ways to lower your frostbite level during a Frost Escalation run:

  • Defeat the current Behemoth.
  • Enter the warming aura of a brazier or a cleansing pylon.
  • Take advantage of the active boon.
  • Use your avatar ability. (Learn more about avatars and boons below.)

Another wrinkle you’ll want to keep in mind: Frostbite will accumulate a little faster after each Behemoth encounter you complete.

In addition to reducing frostbite, the braziers you encounter will prevent frostbite from building up as long as you remain in their area of effect. The same goes for cleansing pylons, a new consumable launching with 1.5.3. You can unlock the cleansing pylon on the Slayer’s Path and upgrade it to increase the number of pylons you can carry, their duration, and the size of their area of effect. Be sure to visit Granny Strega to craft a handful of these before heading to the frozen tundra.

BOONS ABOUND

Linnea Silver, the Queen of Skaldeskar, has come to aid any Slayer who braves the frozen wastes. During Frost Escalation runs, Linnea will offer boons, special blessings that empower Slayers to reduce frostbite in a variety of ways. Linnea will call out instructions based on the current boon, so pay close attention so you know what to do during the fight.

You will improve your chances against the threats found in Frost Escalation by adhering to your active boons and using them to keep your frostbite levels down.

AVATAR ABILITIES

Avatar abilities arrive with Frost Escalation as part of the 1.5.3 update. You will select one avatar ability at the start of a Frost Escalation run, granting you a specific bonus that plays into your ability to lower frostbite for you and your entire hunting party.

This is how each avatar ability will aid you during Frost Escalation:

  • Avatar of Destruction – Increases your critical strike chance. Your critical hits reduce frostbite for all.
  • Avatar of Control – Increases your stagger damage. Reduce frostbite for all when a Behemoth is staggered.
  • Avatar of Unity – Grants a small chance to reduce frostbite when you hit and creates a shield for all party members. Two-second cooldown.
  • Avatar of Subtlety – You deal bonus wound damage. Reduce frostbite for all when a Behemoth is wounded or has a part broken.

You can further upgrade your avatar abilities over the course of an Escalation run by choosing amps that directly improve your specific ability. These special amps unlock and become available on your run once you choose a starting avatar ability.

FROZEN FOES

The Skaldish bring warnings of deadly Behemoth variants stalking the frozen archipelago, and the fearsome threat lying in wait for any Slayers who traverse the island chain.

DEEPFROST BEHEMOTHS

The harsh biome of Skaldeskar has mutated a number of Behemoth species with powerful frost aether.

Beware the Deepfrost Skarn, with its sharp protective blades of ice, or the Deepfrost Gnasher, with its knack for hurling spheres of snow at unsuspecting Slayers. Before long you’ll also encounter a creature the Skaldish call the “Frostwülf.” Scholars like Dr. Priyani prefer the more precise moniker “Deepfrost Embermane” to identify the creature the Skaldish say can summon aether-fueled minions to its aid in combat.

THE ADVERSARY OF VYLMARK

The true test you’ll encounter in Frost Escalation stirs in a vast, cavernous hollow at the top of the island chain. With jaws strong enough to tear any foe to shreds, Urska will challenge you to use every tool at your disposal to come out victorious.

FROSTY FASHION

Arriving as part of update 1.5.3 is the Realm of Ice Hunt Pass. Here you’ll be able to unlock the striking armour of Skaldeskar, notable for its otherworldly beauty. You can collect both the Frost Shaper and Paladin of Vylmark armour sets by completing the Elite track of this Hunt Pass.

URSKA

Frost Escalation’s keystone Behemoth is the Urska — a nightmare pried from the pages of Skaldish legend. Collect Urska parts in Frost Escalation to forge new legendary weapons and armour. These powerful frost pieces come with a new legendary ability (for weapons) and a new perk (for armour). You can also unlock a full cosmetic variant set through the Frost Escalation talent tree.

LEGENDARY WEAPONS

Facing a Urska in Frost Escalation will unlock schematics for all of its legendary weapons. These high-powered weapons aren’t easy to craft, but the perks are worth the extra effort.

PRISMATIC CELL SLOTS

Each legendary weapon features two prismatic cell slots — universal slots capable of holding any cell you own. Leverage them to fine-tune your build and take on even tougher challenges.

WEAPON BOND

Bond your Urska weapon to another frost weapon to gain its perk (e.g. +1 Conditioning) and unique effect (e.g. After dodging, drop 3 ice mines around you on a 30 second cooldown that deal 300 damage). Weapons must be the same type and element to bond.

LEGENDARY ABILITY

Activating your Urska weapon’s legendary ability will create a frost shield that blocks hostile projectiles for a period of time. Enemies that touch the shield while it is active will take damage and become chilled. This ability can also interrupt.

URSKA ARMOUR

The Urska armour set draws its strength from three built-in perks: Aetheric Frenzy, Guardian, and Cascade — a new perk that generates up to four random collectible boosts when you use your lantern hold ability. Armour schematics unlock when you face your first Urska.

Want to show off your Escalation expertise? Earn 25 talent points in Frost Escalation to unlock the Urska ultra armour — a cosmetic upgrade set with additional fur and ice details.

Read the FAQ on the Urska here.

BALANCE

Economy

ECONOMY

We’re keeping a close eye on aethersparks and these are the first steps at addressing the feedback from the community. Due to ongoing player and internal conversations, we’ve decided to make aethersparks an earned-only currency while also increasing their output.

Aethersparks were intended to serve as a reward currency that encourages players to engage with the game in various ways. With Reforged, we wanted players to experience the breadth of Dauntless in a loop. This was to avoid the problem of one endgame activity that players would grind endlessly, and ensure that players are experiencing all Dauntless has to offer. We still believe aethersparks, aetherhearts, and reforging serve this design purpose but this goal is better served if aethersparks exist solely outside of monetization.

  • Aethersparks are no longer purchasable for platinum.
  • Aethersparks are now rewarded after every wave of an island event, with the final wave granting the most. Events will now roughly grant the same amount of sparks on average, regardless of the number of waves.
  • Increased the number of aethersparks in patrol chests.
  • Increased the number of aethersparks rewarded by island events.

Perks

PERKS

We’re continuing to look at unpopular or underpowered cells to try to bring them into the meta. The goal is to give players more ways to come up with interesting builds that are fun and effective. This week we focused on Adrenaline, which is an interesting mechanic that changes your moment to moment decision making. We found it just wasn’t competitive in terms of damage, so we’re improving it. We also removed the negative effects on our least used cells to make them more viable.

  • Increased Adrenaline perk damage from 0.3/0.6/0.9/1.2/1.5/1.8% damage for every 10 stamina missing to 0.5/1.0/1.5/2.0/2.5/3.0%.
  • The Strategist cell no longer reduces your maximum health. Increased the amount of shielding granted from 25/50/75/100/125/150 to 50/75/100/125/150/175
  • The Engineer cell no longer reduces healing from your flask.
  • The Mender cell no longer reduces healing from your flask.
  • The Sprinter cell no longer reduces your maximum stamina.

We’ve also removed the Fireproof, Bloodless, Shellshock Resist, Insulated, and Warmth perks from all gear and replaced them with more useful perks to give players more build diversity options.

  • Volcanic Helm (Charrogg) now has the Sturdy perk (previously Fireproof).
  • Fiery Gauntlets (Embermane) now have the Endurance perk (previously Fireproof).
  • Gnasher Cap (Gnasher) now has the Tenacious perk (previously Bloodless).
  • Eye of the Swarm (Kharabak) now has the Wild Frenzy perk (previously Shellshock Resist).
  • Shocking Stride (Nayzaga) now has the Energized perk (previously Insulated).
  • Feet of Ice (Pangar) now have the Overpower perk (previously Warmth).
  • Quillspike Boots (Quillshot) now have the Barbed perk (previously Shellshock Resist).
  • Skraevwing Gloves (Skraeve) now have the Iceborne perk (previously Warmth).
  • Shrikedown Greaves (Shrike) now have the Grace perk (previously Bloodless).
  • Lightning Gloves (Stormclaw) now have the Catalyst perk (previously Insulated).

Hunting Grounds

HUNTING GROUNDS

  • Increased normal Hellion’s star rating from three to four stars on Hades Reach, making it tougher and more dangerous.

Gameplay

GAMEPLAY

  • The chilled status effect now reduces attack and movement speed when active. Players can reduce the time affected and clear the status by spending stamina (through heavy attacks, sprinting, etc.).

Miscellaneous

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Event currencies have been capped at 500 units.

  • Exploration merits description has been properly localized in all languages.

Environment

ENVIRONMENT

  • Fixed some environmental collision issues with the Trials island. Players should no longer be knocked out of the arena.
  • Fixed a bug that would make islands with misty atmospheres look very bright and flashy. We apologize to your eyeballs.
  • Fixed numerous cases of floating bushes, faulty jump vents, clipping assets, and holes for all environments.

Cosmetics

COSMETICS

  • Hair and eyes no longer clip through the Wreath of Shadows helm skin.
  • The Wreath of Shadows helm skin now has the correct default dyes.
  • Removed collision on the Gone Fishing emote’s bucket. Players can no longer build a stairway to heaven out of buckets.
  • Fixed beard hair clipping through multiple helms.

Ramsgate

RAMSGATE

  • Interacting with the Portal Driver now correctly adds the Clear Skies journal entries to the player’s journal.

Miscellaneous

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Severed Behemoth tails will no longer glow when on the ground. They will look more lifeless, as intended. Gross.

Maintenance is planned for just 30 minutes, and we have the list of fixes in this patch below.

Rainbow Six Siege Update 2.03 February 4 Patch Notes: (R6 Siege Patch 4.3.1)

Here are the official list of fixes per Ubisoft:

Update: Match Cancellation timer to 60s (from 120s)
Fixed: Reappearing Match Cancellation vote buttons
Fixed: TK prompt not appearing when Match Cancellation prompt active

STT/TTS UPDATE:

Due to an unexpected load on the servers from these features and in an effort to increase effectiveness for players in need, Speech to Text and Text to Speech will be limited to English-speaking users in the United States.

Please note, that in order to resume the use of Voice Chat, players who currently have Speech to Text enabled will need to ensure that the Convert Voice to Text setting is toggled off.

Our team is currently looking into further accessibility options to implement in the future, with the goal to extend support to even more players around the world

That’s about it for this title update. Same as always, if we spot any gameplay-related changes and whatnot, we’ll be sure to update the post. If you haven’t logged into Rainbow Six Siege since last year, don’t forget that the big Y5S4.3 patch was released last week which brought a host of gameplay changes.

Hitman 3 Review – Killing Is My Business

I’ve been a long time Hitman fan having played every game available on consoles since Hitman 2: Silent Assassin released on PS2 back in 2002. I have always enjoyed IO Interactive’s murder sandboxes as well as their goofy, but dark humor that provided me with hours of replay value going through the levels, finding new ways to take out targets. For the past 19 years, the franchise has been extremely dependable (I even enjoy Absolution) and Hitman 3 is no different. IOI’s tried and true formula is just as polished, fun, rewarding as ever, even if this one feels shorter than it should. How does this one stand up against the pack? Read on for our Hitman 3 review.

The Story So Far

Picking up after the events of 2018’s Hitman 2, Hitman 3 puts Agent 47 on the path of taking out the remaining leaders of Providence. Along the way there are genuinely shocking twists and turns running up to the conclusion of the trilogy. I won’t spoil anything but it’s pretty clear that the door is left open for new Hitman games should IOI want to return to the franchise. However, it will be a very interesting new narrative they will have to develop.

In all honesty, the story has never been why I play these games. For me they have always washed over me in a way that I barely retain much of anything that they’re about. The real reason why I play these games is for the maps and the litany of ways I am provided to take out my targets.

This time around there are only six missions, which is only two less than Hitman 2 had and one less than Hitman (2016) had but it still felt short. It isn’t helped that the last mission does away with the wide open map structure and is literally a linear, straight line. You still have plenty of options at your disposal but the last mission is easily the least interesting and kind of an underwhelming climax to not only this game but the trilogy.

Murder Sandbox

So in actuality there are five missions that truly offer the open area sandbox that I’ve come to expect from the series. They’re all great maps for sure, and all offer a ton of variety to not only take out the targets but also tons of challenges to complete. Like the previous games, the challenges consist of staples like taking out your targets with headshots, as well as using the piano wire. But also challenges to using specific scenarios to take them out. One mission has you pulling an alarm to get the two targets to evacuate via parachute and you have to take them out after they’ve jumped from the building. Completing challenges adds to your mastery level of the map and each new level you hit you unlock something new you can bring on a replay. From weapons, to starting locations, the game offers great incentive to keep replaying levels to get better and better at them.

Scoring well on each level also boosts your bar towards filling out and another mastery level. This is done not being seen, changing disguises, making sure no bodies are discovered, and so on.

Knives Out

The true standout of this game is the second mission, “A Death in the Family” which allowed me to disguise 47 as a private detective who has been summoned to a mansion to solve a murder. You can completely ignore this should you chose, but I had so much fun finding clues and confirming alibis that I didn’t even bother with taking out my target until I was certain I found the culprit.

Each level offers unique stories like this that you can follow through on to get a perfect opportunity to take out your target. Not all of them are as rich and deep but they do provide a nice bit of variety, or you can just get creative and find ways to take out your target on your own.

Also returning are Contracts which are user created and allow you to choose anyone in the map as a target and add your own parameters that other players need to follow to get the best scores. This adds a ton or replay value to the game, well beyond the point where you’ve exhausted all of the ways to take out the targets of the narrative. The one caveat is that you can’t save so if you have four targets and you mess up on the last target and get spotted, you’ll have to either finish with a terrible rating or start over from the beginning. That’s not a complaint, just something to keep in mind when planning your approach.

Keep Coming Back for More

Adding more value to the game is being able to import levels from Hitman and Hitman 2 should you already own those games, making Hitman 3 your one stop place for the entire series. Playing on PS5 gives these levels a boost from the beefier hardware as well.

An unfortunate decision is requiring an online connection to play this decidedly single player game. Sure, it connects you with the leaderboard but your score and thus mastery level of each map is also tied to an online connection. This means should you want to play off line you don’t get the rewards for completing challenges. This is a ridiculous requirement.

Hitman 3 is a fantastic addition and culmination of the World of Assassination trilogy that offers plenty to do and see within the framework IOI has established. While the last map left me underwhelmed, the rest off plenty of value and make it well worth the price of admission.

Score: 8/10

Pros:

  • Extremely polished and fun as ever
  • Tons of variety in how you can approach each level and target
  • Contracts offer a ton of replay value
  • You can install the entire trilogy’s maps for the entire game to be in one hub.

Cons:

  • Requiring an online connection to access rewards for level mastery is beyond stupid
  • The story still feels like it doesn’t matter
  • With only 6 maps, it’s rather short if you just want to play the story
  • The last map is underwhelming

EA: Star Wars Relationship “Very Profitable,” Over $3 Billion in Digital Revenue

While EA might not be the sole publisher making Star Wars video games these days, the publisher did manage to earn a ton of money off the license already.

During EA’s quarterly earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared that the publisher’s Star Wars titles have been “very profitable,” and that EA has earned well over a staggering $3 billion in net bookings (digital revenue/microtransactions).

Mike Hickey (Benchmark Company): And then on Star Wars, obviously, that license is not exclusive. It seems like you’d probably be doing less years. How do you think about sort of realigning your development resources? And broadly speaking, how do you think about licensed IP versus owned IP in the sort of non-sports category? Thanks, guys.

Andrew Wilson (EA CEO): And as I said before, we’ve had a long partnership with Disney, both before our exclusive period that gave us a great opportunity to really establish some very strong franchises like Battlefront, like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, like Jedi: Fallen Order, like Squadrons. You should expect us to continue to invest in our Star Wars relationship. It’s been very profitable, to this point, over $3 billion in net bookings and we’re excited by what we’ll be able to do in the future. But you shouldn’t read this as necessarily us building the less titles.

Given EA has confirmed that they are making more Star Wars games, that $3 billion number should balloon some more in the coming years.

Street Fighter 5 Winter Update Scheduled for February 11

Capcom is finally set to reveal one of the most anticipated updates in their latest installment of the Street Fighter series, as the developer has announced that the Street Fighter 5 Winter Update will be happening next week and is scheduled for February 11.

Here’s the official tweet announcing the event and the details on how to catch it.

As one of the most awaited updates since the arrival of Champion Edition last year, Street Fighter 5’s winter update is expected to bring the first of five new characters into the game — namely the master of Saikyo-Ryu and good old joke character himself, Dan Hibiki. Capcom has steadily teased fans with constant posts and video updates on Dan’s look and fighting style in SF5 – including his V-Triggers and special moves that include the return of signature moves like the Gadouken and his unique set of taunts.

Another thing that remains mysterious yet has fans speculating is the what the new gameplay mechanic of the game is. Some have speculated this to be the addition of a new “Critical Art” that would definitely shake things up and give players new ways and strategies to play SF5. Another guess is adding a new kind of “V-Reversal” that could also change the way players use their defensive strategies against their opponents. Either way we won’t know until the event happens, so set your clocks and schedules accordingly to catch what Capcom says.

If you haven’t gotten it yet, Street Fighter V’s newest crossover costume is Garuda from Fighting EX Layer – which players can get for Akuma until February 4.

Street Fighter 5 is available for PS4 and PC.
