The Division 2 Beta Ban Is Happening to People for No Reason

If you’ve pre-ordered The Division 2, then chances are you’re in The Division 2 private beta which is happening right this moment. While it’s understandable for betas to have issues, this one happening right now is a bit of an oddity since it’s not usual for people to get banned in betas.

Yep, it seems The Division 2 beta ban issue is happening to players, and it’s random from what we can tell. Over on Reddit, multiple players have chimed in complaining they got banned from the beta for no reason. Thankfully, Ubisoft is aware of it and is said to be rolling out a patch to fix this snag. If you’re somehow still getting banned, and you can’t wait for the patch, user ash_ax posted a quick fix for it that multiple people have mentioned, works!

Yannick,t he Live Content Manager at Ubisoft Massive (developer of The Division), has mentioned that the issue should be resolved now. Here’s to hoping it is for everyone!

Of course, given that this is a beta, it’s better that this is happening now rather than at launch, right? I mean, isn’t this the entire point of doing beta tests?!

Stay tuned for MP1st’s The Division 2 beta impressions. We’re currently playing it as well, and will offer our thoughts on the beta build once we’ve given it enough playtime.

In other The Division 2 news, go check out our first look at the shared world shooter’s endgame and some of the enemies we’ll face at max level.

Super handy, right? Based on the Anthem javelin abilities cheat sheets, which class do you reckon you’ll main first? Personally, I’m going with the Storm given how powerful the class feels hovering above enemies and raining elemental space magic death.

Perfect Security Tool for Online Gaming

In spite of the fact that gaming is often considered as an addictive source of entertainment, it has been proven that it has a lot of benefits for our brains. The key advantage is the development of cognitive skills. Other pros are improving coordination, problem-solving skills, attention and concentration, and the brain’s speed. Moreover, regular playing enhances multitasking skills and memory.

Taking all into consideration, it becomes clear why some people prefer video games to movies on streaming services. People try to find the best video game for relaxation after a hard work day. At the same time, not all Internet users take their privacy and security while gaming seriously.

However, the frequency of various forms of cybercrime just shows how essential to use a reliable tool that is able to protect you during any online activity. Very often a VPN comes to the rescue. Virtual Private Networks are the easiest solution to the problems of online security. A VPN technology is able to encrypt your data, making your invisible on the Net. It means neither your ISP nor other third-parties are able to trace you online.

Here are other reasons for using a VPN while playing video games online:

Early release games

This benefit is valued by thousands of gamers worldwide. The deal is that a VPN is able to give you a chance to download a game before it’s released in your country. To get a game before its release, a VPN customer just needs to change an IP to that country where the game has been already released. Very often residents of North America and Japan are the first who enjoy new games. Then come Europe and Australia, and only then the rest of the world.

Protect yourself from DDoS attacks

For those who prefer playing games online, a stable and consistent connection is vital. Players of such games like League of Legends or Minecraft usually face DDoS attacks (an attempt to make a service unusable). Protecting you against DDoS attacks, a VPN makes online playing faster. Moreover, connecting to different server location can reduce ping and lags in any MMO game.

Access any game wherever you are

A VPN gives unrestricted access to any games. This function is vital in case you are going to travel somewhere. While travelling you will want to maintain a connection with your destination country. However, you will be forced to use the local server. In this regard, a VPN is a must. Just use a trustworthy VPN provider that owns a wide choice of servers worldwide and connect to a VPN server which is located in your country. Once the game is loaded up, you will see that you can access your preferred game server.

Cheaper regional availability

A true gamer knows for sure that very often publishers charge more money for releases depending on the region. And again, switching to another server can solve this issue. Log out of your marketplace account, connect to a VPN server in another country and log back. The prices will obviously change in order to reflect your virtual location.

As you can see, a VPN is a perfect tool for gamers that is able not only guard the most sensitive data against third-parties but also make gaming more convenient and safe.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Shipped Over 23 Million Copies to Date, Beats Take-Two Expectations

We all know Red Dead Redemption 2 was going to be huge, but can anyone have guessed it’d move 23 million copies, though? Publisher Take-Two Interactive, which is the parent company of Rockstar Games, states that the Red Dead Redemption 2 sales figures have surpassed the publisher’s expectations.

Take-Two has beaten its third quarter revenue targets with Red Dead Redemption 2 spearheading the charge with 23 million copies shipped! Note that this figure is shipped, meaning sold through retailers, but not sold to consumers. Nevertheless, that’s still a very impressive number.

Not only did Red Dead Redemption 2 beat expectations, but its online component, Red Dead Online, did so as well. Red Dead Online is said to be trending ahead of how GTA Online was performing during that game’s point in its lifecycle.

Here’s what Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, had to say:

What’s really exciting is that during December, combined monthly active users of Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online took Rockstar to a new record. We feel great about it. Obviously the experiences are a work in progress, and there will be a lot more content to come. But in terms of comparing where Grand Theft Auto Online was in terms of engagement at this stage of the game, versus where Red Dead Online at this stage in the game, Red Dead Online has more engagement, is doing better and has a lot more early traction. Which we think is very encouraging.

If Red Dead Redemption 2 has the same staying power of Grand Theft Auto V in the sales charts, then Take-Two will be swimming in money well into the next-generation of gaming.

Battlefield V Anti-Cheat System Explained, Here’s How DICE Weeds Out Cheaters

As part of this week’s Battlefield V news and announcements, DICE has now gone in-depth (though not too much) in regards to Battlefield 5 anti-cheat measures, and how the studio weeds out cheaters.

Without further ado, here’s the info straight from DICE!

What are the top five things DICE is doing to prevent cheating in Battlefield V?
1) Working on better prevention, hardening the PC client against exploits.
2) Scaling up detection efforts.
3) Investigating supplementary deterrence methods which can work alongside banning accounts.
4) Investigating methods of improving the reporting flow, including easier reporting.
5) Keeping up to date with the latest cheat developments and reacting to them in a faster and leaner manner.

How are you identifying cheaters in Battlefield V?
We use a combination of in-game and server technology, such as FairFight, along with information from external websites, player reporting, and social channels. Having worked on anti-cheat for a long time, we have the knowledge combined with a refined set of procedures to identify cheating. However, finding the cheaters’ unique identifiers and issuing bans based on them is not a silver bullet. Cheat developers work tirelessly to get around these methods, which creates a cat-and-mouse game in which we constantly need to be vigilant.

How are confirmed cheaters being punished?
After the launch of Battlefield V last year, all bans for cheating in the game are now permanent. No more one-week suspensions. We can’t guarantee that cheaters won’t come back using new accounts, though. Players will be banned as soon as we reliably detect them and will be removed from the active game if need be.

How can one tell the difference between a great player and a cheating player?
This is one of the challenges of anti-cheat work. There are many skilled players who do seemingly impossible things in game, and they are often wrongly reported as cheaters (shout out to Stodeh who highlights this with some amazing plays). Our team at DICE is trained to spot cheaters through its knowledge of different hacks and cheat types, which we constantly keep up to date with.

Some cheaters are good in masking themselves. Some are not – and some do not care. These aggressive players are getting dozens of kills without attempting to hide their cheating and are often harassing other users through the chat.

Getting into Spectator mode and observing the player is your best bet to spot cheaters. Are they consistently tracking enemy players through walls? Did they make an aim adjustment which seems inhuman? Do they kill players in less than the expected bullet amount? Are all their kills headshots? These can all be clues to help you make an informed decision.

How do I report a suspected cheater?
You can submit a report through the Origin overlay if you’re playing on PC or through your respective consoles if you’re playing on Xbox One or PlayStation® 4. This walkthrough on the Battlefield™ Forums will show you how: https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/160934/how-to-report-suspected-cheaters-in-battlefield-v.

How do you know you won’t incorrectly ban players?
Before activating bans on players, we always do thorough investigations. In 2018, the number of false positive bans in all DICE titles could be counted on one hand. (Compromised accounts would not be classed as false positives as they were banned correctly in the first place.) We are always cautious to avoid issuing false positive bans that would cause trouble for players fighting fair. You can learn more about banned or suspended accounts here: https://help.ea.com/en/help/account/information-about-banned-or-suspended-accounts/.

How does cheating impact PC versus console players?
Due to the nature of the platform, PC is by far the platform where cheats are most common. We are however aware of the (few) potential ways to cheat on console, and we’re constantly following developments in both Battlefield and the consoles themselves to see if further ways to cheat will be made possible.

How can I protect my EA Account so it won’t be compromised and used by cheaters?
Follow this link to learn how you can protect your EA Account: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/account/how-to-maintain-account-security/.

What can I as a non-cheating player do?
Remember to secure your account to prevent compromises. For the health of the game, we will be unable to discriminate between a cheater who is using a compromised account or not, so save yourself from potential heartbreak and learn how to protect your account with a strong password and log-in verification here: https://help.ea.com/help/account/how-to-maintain-account-security. Also, you should be aware of Battlefield V‘s code of conduct: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/battlefield/battlefield-v/play-by-the-battlefield-v-rules.

In other Battlefield V news, EA has confirmed that BFV sales under-performed, and blames how single-player was prioritized instead of battle royale as one of the causes.

Battlefield 1 Player Base at Nearly 4 Million Monthly Active Users, Battlefield 4 at Nearly 2 Million According to EA

While Battlefield V has been out for months, that doesn’t mean that the old games in the franchise are already dead. On the contrary, it seems past entries in the series are still being played by millions of gamers even after years of being out.

In EA’s recent earnings call, the publisher talked about how Battlefield V sales have under-performed, though the publisher is in this for “the long haul.”and cites how even old Battlefield titles still have millions of active players up to this day. Case in point: the Battlefield 1 player base is at a super healthy four million active monthly users per month, while Battlefield 4, a game released five years ago, still gets close to two million active players each month!

Battlefield 1 still has nearly 4 million monthly active users, and Battlefield 4 has nearly two million, more than five years after its launch. When we released the Season 2 content in January, Battlefield V became the largest Battlefield game ever. And we have an exciting live services plan ahead of us, with the launch of the Firestorm Battle Royale game mode in March and continuing through fiscal 2020. The live services content presents an opportunity for upside as we look to sell more copies of the base game and players invest in cosmetic changes to their characters. – Blake Jorgensen, EA COO & CFO

This is damn impressive, no? Do you still play Battlefield 1 or Battlefield 4? Do you have any issues finding matches? If so, why haven’t you moved on to the newer Battlefield games?

Anthem Endgame Showcased in Newest Trailer, BioWare Promises More Stories, Characters and Missions Post-Launch

Update:

We’ve added the official list which came straight from PR.

Original Story:

In just a few short weeks, Anthem will fly out, and players will be able to experience the entire gameplay scope BioWare has plotted out for everyone. While we’ll be tinkering with loadouts, and how our javelins will look in the game, some of us have on target in mind and that’s the Anthem endgame.

We already know that Stronghold missions will be part of the Anthem endgame, but there’s more to it than just that. There are Legendary Contracts, six difficulty levels (with three only accessible by endgame), and lots more! Check out what you can do in Anthem once the you’ve finished the main campaign in this new trailer.

Things Anthem players can expect once they finish the initial story arc include:

  • Playing Anthem at harder difficulty levels

  • Completing Contracts and Legendary Contracts

  • Completing daily, weekly and monthly challenges

  • Defeating squad-based Strongholds

  • Exploring the world of Anthem

  • Completing world events called Cataclysms

  • Exploring new future content coming to Anthem

What’s interesting here is that BioWare mentions in the trailer that more characters, stories and more will be introduced in the “weeks” to come, which suggests that we’ll get frequent content drop possibly even right after launch. Sounds intriguing, right? If you’re worried that there won’t be enough Stronghold missions, BioWare has already mentioned that they want to add more Strongholds ASAP, and once they do, it’ll be free.

Anthem flies out this February 22 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

How eSports Has Created a New Online Gambling Market

With the online gambling industry growing at a rate of approximately 9% year-over-year, it would be normal to expect that industry would be one of the fastest growing industries in the electronic gaming world. The truth is eSports is ruling the roost right now.

Over the past 5-6 years, video gambling for outrageous prize money has taken the adult gaming world by storm. Recent estimates put the industry’s rate of growth at somewhere around 32% year-over-year with the possibility of that number going higher by 2021. This is what an economist would call explosive growth.

About eSports

eSports features video game playing at the highest level. Throughout the world, there are literally hundreds of thousand of players playing at a professional level. A majority of the players fall into the 21-35 age group with about 75% of the players being male. The favorite video game genre for both the eSports leagues and tournament play are first-person shooter and multiplayer online battle arena games.

The industry’s ecosystem includes the players, tournament and league sponsors, advertisers and the game developers. Due to the growing popularity of eSports, top game developers are now developing games specifically for this industry. Financially, it’s a $7.0 billion industry and growing. As a point of reference, the top-ranked video Esports player in the world raked in a brilliant $4+ million in the last 12 months. The top-ranked team has won in excess of $10m. Note: There’s additional earnings coming in from sponsorships.

Esports Gambling

Given the popularity of the eSports phenomenon, it makes sense that the gambling industry would seize on the opportunity to allow gamblers to bet on league games, tournaments and special events. The opportunity to do this is greatly enhanced by the availability of data and statistics from the top leagues and organizations in the industry.

Current estimates put eSports viewership at around 400 million people, expected to reach 500 million by the end of this year. That’s a lot of young people who might have an interest in betting on their favorite players or teams.

Current eSports gambling revenue estimates for 2019 sit at about $7.0 billion. With the US online sports betting market starting to open up in states across the country, that number could double over the next two years. As a point of interest, fantasy eSports leagues are starting to form on gambling sites all over the world. If this catches on, the eSports gaming revenues for a single year could rival sports like the NHL and MLB.

The Future of eSports Gambling

While the popularity of eSports gambling is on the dead rise, there are issues with which the industry is going to have to deal. Professional gamblers rely heavily on data for handicapping before placing wagers. While there are stats available, it’s not as easily accessible as one sees with other major betting sports. That has to be corrected. Additionally, player and team integrity will always be put under scrutiny. Professional eSports players can make serious money playing video games, but the temptation of easy money from gambling will always be a problem. This is something the leagues and tournament directors are going to have to address in the future.

Putting those two issues aside, the online gambling industry has barely scratched the surface of what’s possible. The real thrust is going to come from exposure. With cable channels now broadcasting events from all over the world, the popularity of eSports as a viable spectator and gambling sport only figures to continue exploding throughout the world.

EA: Apex Legends and Battlefield Battle Royale Two Very Different Types of Experiences, Unique Users Trending Past 3 Million

With Apex Legends having launched just a few days ago, EA has officially entered the battle royale genre. While the game seems to be raking in players, there’s another battle royale mode/game looming on the horizon from the publisher, and it’s none other than Battlefield V’s battle royale mode called Firestorm.

During EA’s earnings call, the publisher was asked by Mike Hickey of Benchmark whether there’s any “tension” between Apex Legends and Battlefield V’s battle royale mode.

Mike Hickey: First I guess on Apex Legends, I guess congrats what an awesome deal, it’s really hard to be surprised and your marketing efforts there were — from Respawn were definitely exceptional buzz is high, I guess looks like Respawn also has a fair amount of work done on a content roadmap we have sustained some engagement, I was curious how you think maybe longer-term in extensions Mobile Asia, esports related to Apex in the Battle Royale genre. And also curious if you feel that there might be a tension between the Battlefield, Battle Royale experience and one that you just served with Apex Legends? Thanks.

Andrew Wilson (EA CEO): And to the second part of your question around Battlefield Firestorm, we think that these while they sit inside the Battle Royale kind of genre, two very different types of experiences. What we’ve seen is the community who want to play these types of games is hundreds of millions of people strong. We think there is an opportunity to deliver the fast-paced play that is Apex Legends and where that game goes to a big part of the community. And then also the strategic play, the vehicle play, the things are unique to a Battlefield Battle Royale mode will offer differentiation of play for a different part of that community, and at some level there may also be some cross over. But given the size of the community, given the very different types of gameplay even inside the Battle Royale genre, we believe those two modes can fit very well together in the community.

Wilson has a point, no? They are both battle royale games, but Apex seems to be the more arcade-y battle royale experience. Of course, we haven’t played a second of Firestorm yet, but we’ll soon get our hands on it as it’s set to launch this March.

Remember when we posted that Apex Legends had over two million players yesterday? Well, it seems they’re close to three million! In the same call, Wilson mentioned that the game was trending “past towards 3 million unique users,” and nearly 600,000 peak and current users in the middle of a Tuesday!

Well it is early, what I can say is that in the first 24 hours we had over 2.5 million unique users trending past towards 3 million unique users and nearly 600,000 peak and current users kind of in the middle of a Tuesday, so it’s very early but the response to the game has been very, very strong. We’ve been the number one views game on Twitch since launch and player sentiment seems to be very, very high right now. – Andrew Wilson

If Apex Legends can maintain this momentum or even close to it, then Fortnite really ha a new competitor that it should be worried about.

For battle royale fans, will you try Battlefield V’s battle royale mode? Do you think the two games’ can co-exist without cannibalizing each other’s playerbase?

EA Targeting Anthem Sales to Be at 5-6 Million Units for the Quarter, “Modest Expectations” for Anthem Live Services

With Anthem set to launch in a just two weeks, BioWare and EA will, for the first time, enter the suddenly-crowded shared world shooter genre popularized by games like Destiny, The Division, Warframe, and more.

While Anthem seems to be a AAA game developed by a big studio, EA says that it has “modest expectations” for Anthem’s (and Battlefield V’s) live services since this is an unproven venture by the publisher, and estimates Anthem sales numbers to be at 5-6 million units sold in the quarter. This was revealed during EA’s earnings call by EA COO & CFO Blake Jorgensen.

We now anticipate fiscal 2019 net bookings of $4.75 billion. This is below our previous expectations, based primarily on performance to date of Battlefield V, mobile, and Origin Access. We model Anthem units in the 5 to 6 million unit range, and do not model material net bookings for Apex Legends in the quarter.

We have modest expectations for Battlefield and Anthem live services, given that they are not yet proven. We continue to refine mobile live services and work on new games.

Mind, 5-6 million units sold is still a lot — especially for a new IP, but we’re not EA, so what do we know, right?

Do you think Anthem will hit those numbers or should EA brace themselves for a letdown?

In other Anthem news, BioWare has announced that over 40 million hours of playtime was amassed during the game’s two-weekend demos. For those who played, the studio also announced that they want to pump out Stronghold missions ASAP, and yes, they will be free.

EA: “Premium” and “New Twist” Take on Titanfall Universe Coming Later This Year

While Respawn has just released Apex Legends, and confirmed that Titanfall 3 isn’t in active development, it seems we’re still going to get something Titanfall-related later this year.

This was revealed by EA CEO Andrew Wilson during the publisher’s latest earnings call. In it, Wilson confirms that this “new twist” on the Titanfall universe will indeed launch later this year, and EA will talk about it in the months ahead.

The Respawn team has a strong plan for Apex Legends that will engage fans for a long time to come. As the live service evolves, Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe. More to come on that in the months ahead.

During the call, Mike Ng from Goldman Sachs asked about the capacity if Respawn to launch three games in one year given we just had Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is already confirmed to be shipping later this year, and there’s this “premium” Titanfall game that we’ve yet to hear about.

Mike Ng: It seems that in fiscal 2020 Respawn will now be operating or launching three titles between that one, Apex, and Star Wars, could you just talk about Respawn capacity for that? Thank you.

Andrew Wilson: And well, I don’t have more to share on the particulars of what would come in for Titanfall. What I would say is Respawn are a tremendously creative team, they always anticipated that Apex Legends would be a spectacular game in the Battle Royale genre and that they would use that as a ramp point to continue to innovate and deliver a truly creative take on what Titanfall is in a premium context later on the EA.

Don’t forget, Apex Legends is set in the Titanfall universe, so anything’s possible. Given how EA has repeatedly said that this is a “premium” game, that rules out this being a small, indie-ish title. Could it be a Titanfall MOBA game? A new Titanfall first-person shooter but one that’s directly Titanfall 3 but will be set in the same universe? Color us intrigued! With Respawn’s pedigree, it’s understandable to be excited, and we can’t wait to hear more about this new Titanfall game.

What do you think this new Titanfall game will be? Will you still play it even if it doesn’t have walljumping and titans?

Battlefield V Sales Hit 7.1M in Q4 2018; EA Blames Lack of Battle Royale & “Heavily Discounted Competition” as Causes

While a lot of players are having fun with Battlefield V, it seems DICE’s latest game isn’t doing as well as its publisher, Electronic Arts (EA), was hoping it would do commercially.

During the publisher’s quarter earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson, and EA COO & CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the publisher was disappointed with the Battlefield 5 sales figures, and blames how single-player was prioritized over the battle royale mode which is scheduled to be released next month.

In August, we determined that we needed some more time for final adjustments to the core gameplay to fully deliver on the potential of the live service, so we moved the ship date to November to accommodate those goals. Unfortunately, the later release date meant the game launched deeper into a competitive holiday window where heavy price discounting was a big factor. In addition, we also made the decision to prioritize other features, including a single-player experience, at launch over a Battle Royale mode. This year, Battle Royale modes became incredibly popular in shooter games. As a result of these decisions, we struggled to gain momentum and we did not met our sales expectations for the quarter. – Andrew Wilson, EA CEO

We had high expectations for Battlefield V, we expected to grow our existing mobile titles and had anticipated launching two new mobile games. As Andrew outlined, it didn’t play out as we planned. We decided to move Battlefield V into a difficult launch window against heavily discounted competition

The desire to make changes to Battlefield V led us to move its launch into a more difficult window, and prioritizing the single-player campaign over Battle Royale also hurt sales. As a result, we sold 7.3 million units in the quarter, about 1 million less than comprehended by our Q3 guidance. – Blake Jorgensen, EA COO & CFO

While this doesn’t sound well for the title, EA acknowledges that the franchise is “strong,” with the publisher counting on the live services game model to bring in more players to BFV over time.

Do you think EA’s reasons are correct as to why the Battlefield 5 sales figures aren’t up to snuff? Is it due to single-player being prioritized over battle royale? Bad marketing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

In other Battlefield V news, DICE has outlined some of the announcements set to come this week, which you can read about here.

Apex Legends Player Count Soars Past 2 Million, More Than Doubles Fortnite Viewers

Earlier today, we posted that the Apex Legends player count has surpassed one million unique players in just eight hours of availability. Well, it seems the game is getting even bigger, and reaching more people.

Over on Twitter, Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella mentioned that the Apex Legends player count has doubled overnight!

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Apex Legends seems to be besting the current king of the battle royale hill, Fortnite — at least in terms of Twitch viewers. Currently, Apex Legends has well over 390,000 people tuning in to watch, while Fortnite is at “just” 140,000.

Of course, the fact that Apex Legends has just been released factors heavily in its popularity now, but even so, one would assume that people would be tired of battle royale games, and here’s a new one that just came out of nowhere, and seems to be kicking all kinds of ass.

For those not familiar, Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Respawn Entertainment, and is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re looking forward to Titanfall 3, you might have to wait for a long while as Respawn has confirmed that they are not working on the game presently due to Apex Legends.

The Division Endgame Content Was “Very Little” Admits Game Creative Director, Plays in to How Sequel Was Made

If you’ve played the first The Division until the end, chances are you’ve experienced the game’s endgame — or lack thereof — for the first few months since its release. Did you notice how there was an apparent lack of endgame activities in the Division? Yep, you’re not the only one.

Talking about The Division 2 endgame, Creative Director Julian Gerighty admitted that in the first game, the studio launched the game with “very little” in terms of endgame content, though this has since helped the studio shape The sequel endgame stuff given from what they’ve learned.

We launched The first game with very little in terms of endgame content. It was a great campaign, you reached level 30, the endgame started, but it was lacking in activities. We were trying to operate this live game, yet we saw things that weren’t working out for the long term. That’s why a very tough decision was made before patch 1.4, which was to stop the development of all of the planned features and the DLCs to be able to focus on the technological debt and on the improvements to get the game to where we wanted it to be. That all fed into how we’ve set up The Division 2 production-wise, creatively as well.

Speaking of The Division 2 endgame stuff, check out this video where we see gameplay footage of The Division 2’s endgame enemies.
