Doom’s July Update Is Bringing New Modes To Multiplayer, “Unto The Evil” DLC Announced

As July approaches, so too does new content for id Software’s reboot of the iconic FPS game, Doom.

Next month, according to id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton during Bethesda’s E3 2016 presentation, Doom is getting a handful of new game modes, available for free to all players. That includes a new one-flag CTF mode called Exodus and a new multi-zone capture-and-hold mode called Sector.

All of them, including three new Free-For-All modes due out later this Summer, will be playable on all existing and future multiplayer maps.

As for paid Season Pass content, Doom’s first Premium DLC pack, Unto The Evil, is also expected to land sometime in July. It brings three new maps — Offering, Cataclysm, and Ritual — along with a new playable demon called the Harvester, a new gun, and a new equipment item. Battlefield 1 Multiplayer First Look – New Maps & Modes Announced

After revealing the explosive World War One-themed gameplay from Battlefield 1’s single player campaign, developer DICE took the stage during EA’s EA Play event to give fans what they’re really after: a huge 64-player multiplayer battle from the game’s Conquest mode.

Before we get to the fun stuff, here’s a look at some of the maps and modes coming to Battlefield 1 multiplayer:

MAPS

Amiens

large.img

A destructive clash in a majestic city. Fight on the streets and squares in French city of Amiens during the German spring offensive. A struggle in crumbling alleys, a courthouse, around bridges and railways where the British and the Germans desperately seek to control the depths of the city.

The St. Quentin Scar

large.img

A massive attack on the scarred battlefields of northern France. As part of the Kaiser’s battle, the German army throws everything they have to try to break through the British lines. Prepare for truly cataclysmic assaults as you push through the trenches of the St. Quentin Scar. Be the first soldier to break through the fortified lines and assault the pristine village of Travecy, untouched by the war… until now.

Monte Grappa

large.img-1

Take part in one of the final battles among the peaks of kings in the Venetian Alps. High up above the clouds a desperate fight for control of mountain forts are challenging even the toughest soldiers. Utilize the massive fort cannons to stop the advancing enemies as they scale the mountainside. Up here, in this furious struggle, the Austro Hungarian Empire holds the upper hand, but the Italian Army won’t stop until they’ve taken back what’s theirs.

Empire’s Edge

large.img-2

Along the Adriatic coast a fierce struggle for land and life is taking place. A rugged but fortified shore becomes the battlefield for an empire under siege. What was once a beautiful Mediterranean village by the coast is now transformed by mechanized war, where waves and dreadnought battleships pound the remains of Italy’s Great War.

MODES

Conquest

An all-time fan favorite of Battlefield players, Conquest is a large-scale game mode with up to 64 players fighting for the control of key objectives. With large armies on foot or behind the wheel and the addition of fearsome Behemoths, Conquest brings together all the elements of the signature Battlefield All-Out War.

Domination

Domination offers a fast-paced infantry focused combat in close quarter locations. It’s a smaller, but more focused version of Conquest, and the fighting revolves around strategic objectives. Ready your shotgun and sharpen your hatchet – in the Domination game mode things tend to get close and personal.

Operations

Operations is a completely new way to experience Battlefield multiplayer, giving you the opportunity to fight on an entire front of the Great War. In a sequence of inter-connected battles, a team of attackers attempts to conquer ground and push the frontline forward, as the defenders are trying to push them back. Should the defenders fail to hold their ground on a map, the Operation doesn’t stop here: they will fall back and regroup on a different map, while the attackers will push the assault. Sectors may fall, but players reinforced by gigantic Behemoths can still turn the tide.

Below is a series of clips that capture a few full matches from the classic Conquest game mode. You’ll see a ton of new (or really, really old) weapons and vehicles in action. Definitely get a load of some of the expansive maps that really capture the era.

Contracts & New Specialist Coming To Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 This Month

On June 14, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 fans will get even more ways to earn in-game goodies through a new reward system developer Treyarch is introducing called Contracts.

Contracts, as the introduction video above explains, will offer Daily and Weekly challenges that players can complete for more Cryptokey rewards. Meanwhile, Special Contracts will offer bigger prizes, like a guaranteed Weapon Bribe and 10X Rare Supply Drops.

There are also new Mercenary Contracts that will activate an entirely new Specialist in Black Ops 3’s roster called Blackjack. Unlike the other Specialists, Blackjack doesn’t quite have is own unique ability, but he can steal other Specialist’s powers or earn a random power at a quicker rate.

Blackjack was rumored to be the newest Specialist for some time now and was subtly teased as an easter egg in Black Ops 3’s last DLC drop. Looks like he’ll finally be a playable character later this month.

The new Specialist, along with the new Contracts update, will arrive on June 14 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You’ll find specifics on both over on Black Ops 3’s recently updated website.

NetherRealm Announces Injustice 2, Will Feature Loot Drop Mechanic

After being leaked early yesterday morning thanks to a promo poster from Gamestop, NetherRealm Studios has now officially announced the next title it is working on: none other than Injustice 2.

You can check out the reveal trailer above.

Judging from the announcement trailer, it looks like Super Girl will be joining the original cast of playable characters such as Aquaman, Batman, The Flash and of course, Superman. It appears that Injustice 2 will have a new system in place called “Gear System”.

As according to the PlayStation Blog, this new system awards you with loot drops for every time you play the game, much like a role playing game. In turn, it nets you character specific loot drop that will not only change the aesthetics of a character, as well how a characters fights or approaches a fight.

Additionally, it appears DC villains such as Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd will also be playable characters in the game.

Injustice 2 is set to be available sometime in 2017 for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

E3 Leaks: Injustice 2, Dead Rising Remake, State of Decay 2

With this year’s E3 event just a few short days away, it appears that a few games that have been slated for a reveal during the conference have slipped out a little earlier than expected.

Making its round around the Internet, and later “confirmed” by Kotaku, it seems that original Dead Rising is getting a complete remake along with new content being added, including a four player co-operative mode. Despite being a remake, it’ll be titled Dead Rising 4 and is said to have plenty enough new content to be considered new. Down below are just some of the leaked images surfacing on the Internet.

deadrising4_poster-635x372 deadrising4_gameplay-635x305

Kotaku sources have also confirmed that State of Decay 2 would be revealed sometimes during the showing. Both titles will be exclusive to Microsoft available platforms (Xbox One, and Windows).

In fighter news, it seems that the acclaimed DC Universe game series, Injustice, is finally getting its sequel announced. This should come to no surprise to anyone as the title had been previously teased by Netherealm Studio head, Ed Boone. Though, the leaked poster, via Polygon, further confirms this.

http://i.imgur.com/xygGCfj.jpg

The reveal for Injustice 2 isn’t really much of a surprise as Mortal Kombat’s co-creator, Ed Boon has been hinting about a sequel for their 2013 DC Universe fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us for quite awhile on his Twitter  account. He updated his profile pic to an image of the roman numeral for “2 “and, once again, sent out a cryptic boot tweet much like he did with Mortal Kombat X:

E3 kicks off next week, but expect more leaks throughout the week along with official early reveals.

Overwatch Review – Blizzard’s New IP Delivers a Polished FPS Experience For Everyone

It’s been 17 long years since Blizzard pumped out anything wasn’t related in some way to one of its big three IPs: Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. Though all three will go down in history as some of gaming’s most iconic and beloved video game series ever, fans are now welcoming a new member to the Blizzard family. Overwatch is the studio’s take on one of today’s most popular genres of gaming: the first-person shooter.

If you haven’t been following its growth since the initial announcement back in 2014 or missed out on its closed and open beta phases, Overwatch could simply be described as this generation’s Team Fortress. But it’s also a little more. It aims to appeal to a much broader audience, including both PC and console gamers, as well as fans of different styles of shooters. While it achieves this on a gameplay level, its colorful and cartoonish presentation might be hard for some to look past.

Overwatch

Overwatch is a 6 versus 6 Hero-based shooter tied to a game world that appears to belong in a Pixar movie. Characters and levels are bursting with color, which can make it extremely inviting. All 21 heroes are distinct from one another and memorable in their own way, just like any character from ToyStory. Considering the current state of the shooter market that’s full of military-style games cluttered with dull colors, gritty atmospheres, and nameless soldiers, Overwatch might be a big breath of fresh air for many.

At the same time, those more accustomed to today’s standards of unlocks in FPS games may be disappointed in the lack of actual progression. Currently, leveling up doesn’t mean much, aside from earning loot boxes on a per level bases. On top of that, those who don’t mind throwing some extra real-life cash down can also just straight-up purchase loot boxes, buying their way to some of the more rare skins, taunts, or sprays. On a positive note, unlocks are mainly cosmetic, ensuring a balanced playing field with experience and skill being the only determining factor for success.

XboxOne_3P_PAX16_MCCREE2_png_jpgcopy

All of the twelve maps in Overwatch are very pretty to look at and have a great atmosphere to them. In terms of layout, however, it feels as if a good portion of them suffer from areas with too many choke points. A majority of the maps only have one main route with one or two additional routes that don’t really provide the attacking team a good chance to flank, unless you’re picking one of the more mobile heroes like Genji.

All four game modes on offer are fitting for the type focus Overwatch puts on teamwork, though some of them come across as very similar to one another. They mainly involve escorting a payload to a destination, a variation of capturing a control point, or even a hybrid of the two, making long play sessions a tad monotonous.

XBoxOne_1P_PAX16_TRACER_png_jpgcopy

Those few grievances aside, Overwatch is an impressive title with some of the most smooth, polished, and rewarding FPS combat the genre has seen. The feel of it, along with the way weapons handle, will have you second guessing that this is a Blizzard title. It’s as if the studio has been making shooters for decades and it’s just second nature to the team.

To accompany the excellent core combat, the diverse cast heroes offers a completely varied gameplay experience from one character to the next, even if they fall in the same archetype, such as Hanzo and Widowmaker. For example, both serve as sniper classes, but play completely different from one another; Hanzo is a bit more mobile and excels at mid-range while Widowmaker is excellent at supporting her teammates by locking down an area at longer ranges.

PS4-HEROGALLERY_png_jpgcopy

The wide selection of characters may seem overwhelming for some who are completely new to the whole hero-shooter thing, but there’s a method to the madness. Some heroes are purposely very easy to pick up after only a few minutes of play time, which gradually helps introduce the steep learning curve associated with some of other ones. Playing with Pharah, for example, is very reminiscent of arena shooters like Quake and Unreal Tournament.

The game also allows you to cycle through heroes during a match while at your team’s spawn location, allowing you to mix and match throughout the course of a game. This lends itself to a more thoughtful approach to team-oriented strategies, as it allows you to fill in the gap of what your team composition might be missing. In the hero selection screen, Blizzard also offers an in-game tool tip that suggests how to build a well-rounded squad.

OW_PS4_3P_DVA_RELOAD_png_jpgcopy

4 / 5

Overall, those who are out to experiment and try something new will find a great deal of enjoyment out of Overwatch. The game’s colorful and cartoony appeal is inviting while the depth of its gameplay will hook you for hours and hours, unless the small selection of game modes and lack of any single player campaign end up turning you away. Still, the core combat is polished to a shine, which makes it a joy to play. On top of that, there’s hero for every type of player, but experimentation is always encouraged.

Overwatch, welcome to the family.

Overwatch is out now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

New Ghost Recon Wildlands Trailer Shows Off a Vast Open World

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildands, the upcoming open-world co-op shooter from Ubisoft, gets its second gameplay trailer since its E3 2015 debut.

The studio surprised fans with another look at the vast, open world that it’s building for the next big launch in the long-running, military-inspired video game series. It’s looking really good, so far, and the best part is that all of the visuals appear to be in-game. We could be wrong, but seeing shadows pop-in as the camera pans over some of the scenery suggests that it is the case. At worst, environments look extremely varied and fun to explore.

Have a look for yourself in the featured section above.

So far, Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be a more down-to-earth take on the series with open-world traversal, changing time-of-day, shifting weather effects, and tactical co-op gameplay. Expect to learn more about the game at E3 2016.

UPDATE

Here’s a re-release of the same trailer, but with a few interesting facts about the game and the location in which it takes place thrown in:
