Bungie Says Your Destiny Beta Guardian Will Not Transfer To Final Game

According to the latest news update from developer Bungie, the Guardian you created in the Destiny beta last month will remain only in your memory when the full game launches this September 9.

“…our Beta characters won’t transfer to the final version of Destiny. The vaults have been cleaned out, too,” said the studio. Community Manager “DeeJ” laid the news on nicely with this eulogy:

Hey, handsome. Miss you. We had a lot of fun together, didn’t we?

You were bold. Even in the darkest corners of Old Russia, your eyes burned with the same purple intensity that sent so many of your enemies into the Void.

You stood fast in the face of danger. Hive Ogres shook the ground beneath your feet.  The Lord of the Iron Banner put your skills to the test. Yet, after every mission, you returned triumphantly to the Tower.  Humanity had nothing to fear – not on your watch.

You were brave.

And now, you are gone.

You and millions of Guardians just like you. You helped us build a better world – all of you. But as great as that place has become, it’s a place that wouldn’t make sense to you anymore. Too much has changed.

I’ll remember you, and millions of Guardians like you, for the things you taught us. Thank you for letting us learn from your adventures. We promise your sacrifice will not be in vain.

See you starside.

Judging by the post, it appears that changes made between the beta and now mean your Guardian cannot exist as is in the final build.

We’ve been asked many times if this was a real Beta. It was,” DeeJ added. “We learned a lot from your participation, and we’re going to tweak, adjust, and in some cases, make some significant alterations that ultimately mean your Beta Guardian can’t go home again.”

Players sure accomplished a lot during the Destiny beta. Just look at these stats. But don’t sulk for too long. There’s plenty to look forward to this September, including a fresh start with a brand new build of Destiny.

In addition, you can now also pick up the Digital Deluxe Edition of Battlefield 4 for $26.39 (34% off), the Standard Edition of Battlefield 4 for $19.79 (34% off), or Battlefield 4 plus a Premium subscription for $51.98 (35% off) through an ongoing Battlefield Blowout Origin sale. You’ll also find deals on additional Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 3 content, along with discounts on Crysis, Mass Effect, Dead Space, and Medal of Honor games, until August 14 at 8AM PDT.

Insurgency Developer Has ‘Next-Gen Console Ambitions,’ Current Product ‘Is Just The Beginning’

In the latest press release issued by developer New World Interactive outlining some of the new updates coming to their tactical, team-based military shooter, Insurgency, the studio also mentioned plans that should make some console owners happy.

According to NWI Founder and Game Director Jeremy Blum, the studio indeed has “next-gen console ambitions” for Insurgency, originally launched for PC and Mac back in January 2013, though it may not appear exactly as it does now on mouse and keyboard-enabled machines.

“Although the game may be considered a ‘finished’ product, we are constantly evolving our vision and looking forward to growing in the years to come,” he said. “We have next-gen console ambitions. Whether or not we stay on the same engine, we will see, but one thing we know is that this is just the beginning.”

Unlike most typical console shooters of today, Insurgency takes an intensely unforgiving and hardcore approach to military titles with minimal HUD design (no crossairs, health indicators, ammo counters, etc.), realistic damage models, and a focus on slow-paced tactics. It might not be something that moves millions of copies amongst today’s console shooter scene crowded with games of the fast-paced, action-packed, big ‘splosions variety, but that’s not to say there isn’t an audience out there that aches for a return to classic tactical shooters like Rainbow Six.,

In the press release, Blum went on to detail some of the stats and ranking updates coming to the current version of Insurgency in the near future.

We are excited to release our stats framework today, which is now collecting data. We will soon unleash our ranking and tier systems to our community, which is something they have been requesting for quite a long time. It is currently in the final stages of testing before release,” he explained.

Creative Director Andrew Spearin added that “The addition of stats and ranking will be the first step in bolstering our support for the community over the long-term. We know how much potential we have as a competitive game and are solidifying that foundation one step at a time.”

As of this writing, Insurgency is now free to play on Steam for the duration of the weekend and is also on sale for 50% off its normal price.

It doesn’t sound like a done deal just yet, but would you like to see a shooter like Insurgency eventually come to consoles?

Keep your sights locked on MP1st for more Insurgency news in the future.

DICE Details Upcoming Battlefield 4 Improvements While You Wait For Its September Update

Battlefield 4 Global Community Manager Vincent Vukovic has told fans in a recent blog update that the game’s next major patch is due out this September, if all goes well.

The team at DICE LA is continuing to make tweaks to Battlefield 4’s gameplay with some really nifty improvements. Judging by Vukovic’s last post, it appears that there’s a lot in store for the console and PC versions of the military shooter in the near future.

Here’s exactly what they’re working on, according to Vukovic:

Game Mode Improvements

General improvements and tweaks have been made to the following game modes: Rush, Obliteration, Obliteration Competitive, Capture the Flag and Carrier Assault.

Visual Recoil

Close and medium range optic reticules do not move with the gun any longer, however both bullet spread and bullet drop are still present.

Soldier Movement

Changes have been made to soldier movement so that it closely matches the one in Battlefield 3, but without compromising the visual fidelity. This change also makes it easier to get away from undesirable firefights.

Additionally, we’ve dampened third person hit reactions where the soldier previously moved his head around a lot when getting shot at.

HUD Triage

Focusing on clarity, and de-cluttering the HUD/UI to only show what is important – we have added several options and functionality to make your screen much less cluttered (and give you a lot of choice in making it the way you want).

Revive Mechanic Improvements

A special effort went into making revives easier to use, more robust and easier to understand. Additions include a “fully charged” paddle sound, UI indication on revive time and better networked ragdolls.

“Netcode” Improvements

Making ping differences, trade kills and kills behind cover less of an issue by lowering the time allowed to damage on the client side.

Automatic High Frequency Update setting enforced with the intent of release to all platforms, including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Improvements to bullet damage times from client to client, “dusting” and de-syncs.

Vehicle Balance

Identifying and tweaking the top vehicles in need of buffs and nerfs.

Weapon Balance

We’ve focused on maintaining a consistent Time To Kill (how long an average engagement lasts for). With the changes to visual recoil, the third person hit reactions and improved “tickrates” has been sped up somewhat as we still need to balance this with damage and recoil changes.

Suppression systems has also been re-tuned and made clearer.

What’s next?

The next initiative on the CTE will be called the Teamplay Initiative. Here we will focus on improving teamplay and the objective aspects of playing Battlefield. This will include everything from Commander, Squads, Field Upgrades and Game Mode improvements, features and bug fixes.

Taking part in the CTE

To take part in early content, feature and improvement testing, you need to own Battlefield 4 Premium. To sign up for the Community Test Environment, visit http://cte.battlelog.com.

Lots to look forward to. What are your thoughts on the upcoming changes?

Advanced Warfare’s ‘Best Preorder Incentives Have Yet to Come,’ GameStop Letter Confirms ‘Exciting’ Announcement

According to Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, some of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s “best preorder incentives have yet to come.”

The only bonus revealed thus far for those who’ve pre-ordered Advanced Warfare is the Advanced Arsenal pack, an in-game bundle containing the Bullet-Brass Exoskeleton and the Bullet-Brass M1 Quantum directed energy weapon. But as Hirshberg mentioned, it sounds like pre-purchasers will have more to look forward to in the near future.

Hirshberg mentioned the surprise in his response to a question regarding Advanced Warfare’s current pre-order numbers during Activision’s recent Q2 2014 earnings call.

“I think it’s also important to remember that we’re still a ways from our launch and have yet to reveal some of the most important elements of the game to the community who tends to pre-order, like multiplayer and some of our best pre-order incentives have yet to come.”

According to an internal letter sent to us by an MP1st reader and ex-GameStop employee who wishes to remain anonymous, GameStop is likely make the surprise announcement “soon.”

The letter mentions “exciting things that are due to be announced soon about Call of Duty,” but that “details are unable to be shared [with employees] at this time.” It’s not a lot to go by, but we know something is in the works.

Speaking of pre-orders, readers have noted that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Digital Pro Edition and Season Pass are now available to pre-order on the PlayStation Network Store. (Update: The Advanced Warfare Digital Pro Edition is now appearing on Steam as well.) According to the product description, content included in Advanced Warfare’s Season Pass will transfer if users decide to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 at a later date.
