Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder “Accidentally” Posts Blurry Image of Advanced Warfare Co-Op

Check out the first (really blurry) image of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s yet-to-be-named co-operative multiplayer mode.

Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey posted the teaser image on his Twitter.

There’s obviously not a whole lot we can make out from the image. It doesn’t even appear to be any sort of action shot or anything that might indicate what Advanced Warfare co-op’s gameplay might entail. Way to be revealing with your hints, Condrey!

But, seriously, it’s still a tad too early to learn anything solid about the game’s co-op, considering we still haven’t seen what’s up with Advanced Warfare’s competitive multiplayer, which we know is what you are all waiting for. It will be playable at this year’s Gamescom, however, so hopefully we’ll see or hear a thing or two soon.

What sort of co-op do you think would best suit Advanced Warfare? Would you prefer campain co-op, a separate co-op mode like Modern Warfare’s Spec Ops or Survival modes, or something a little more out-of-this-world like Black Ops’ Zombies or Ghosts’ Extinction modes?

Thanks, Jameson, for the tip!

Bungie Community Manager Addresses Concerns Over Final Destiny Content

Destiny developer Bungie hopes to alleviate concerns over the game’s full offering of content, assuring fans that ‘Destiny is the biggest game the studio has ever made, by far.’

Yesterday, data-mined information from the now-closed Destiny beta lead to speculation that the final build of the game would include just over 30 story missions, over 20 strikes, 1 raid, and 4 explorable planets, among other activities. Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague also confirmed on a live stream that all four planets (Earth, Earth’s Moon, Mars, and Venus) will only feature one explorable area each, just like Earth’s ‘Old Russia’ in the beta.

The incomplete list of activities is, by no means, any real indication of the final product, but the internet is the internet, and folks will jump to conclusions and get upset over the early info presented about the final build of Destiny.

On NeoGAF, Bungie community manager Eric “Urk” Osborne addressed concerns over lack of content in Destiny:

Oh, hello.

Destiny’s pretty big. It’s the biggest game we’ve ever made, by far, and we’re sort of known for making games you can play for months, years, and even decades if you’re a little bit…dedicated.

With Destiny, we’re looking to exceed what we’ve done before, not just in terms of scale – the Moon is our smallest destination – but in terms of scope and breadth of activities. That’s true for day one, as you expect, but it also means we want Destiny to have super long legs.

If we’re fortunate enough to have you playing months after launch, you still find lots of compelling stuff to do. That will manifest itself in a myriad of ways, from straight up content to cool activities we’ve yet to show off.

We think we did a decent job supporting Halo, post launch, but we were only ever able to cater to the competitive set. That left a lot of players out in the cold. That made a lot of the team grumpy. We wanted to do better. So, Destiny is philosophically built support every type of player, and all modes with ongoing activities and events. We look at it quite a bit like television programming, as opposed to a singular film, as we had in the past. We think it’s gonna be pretty great, but we wanted to test out a bunch of our new stuff with Beta, to make sure we could flip knobs and levers live, reacting and responding with lots (and, ho boy, did we see LOTS) of players online and playing.

Beta was water wings. Level 8 is nothing. You barely scratched the surface, and it seems like some folks had fun with what was there.

If you did, good news. More soon.

Our advice: Hold off on any speculation until after reading reviews or seeing the game with your own eyes. While we wait to find out what exactly Destiny has to offer when it launches this September 9, tell us in the comments what you liked the most about the Beta!

Thanks, PSLS

The Last of Us: Remastered 30 Vs. 60 FPS Post Patch Screenshots Leaked

Confirmed to be in the day one patch, the first screenshot showing improved shadows in 30 FPS mode has been leaked online.

The screens below are nearly identical, except for the shadows. In the 60 FPS version, while it is an improvement over the PlayStation 3 version, is not as clear as the 30 FPS image below it. The images come from NeoGAF user MrPink93485.

60 FPS OSdtbtT   30 FPS eGz0Lp7

Do note that this is the only graphical enhancement the devs have done since they have gone gold with the game, and that it’s still suggested to play at 60 FPS. While the game does offer a photomode, and images will look better at 30 FPS, you can always turn the option on when you switch into photomode to offer better quality images. The Last of Us: Remastered version is set to launch next Tuesday on the PlayStation 4.

Destiny’s Interceptor Vehicle Is Getting a “Nerf” In The Final Game, Here Are the Details

Those raising arms over the all too effective Interceptor, a powerful vehicle currently available on the First Light Crucible map in the Destiny Beta, will be happy to know it will be receiving a few appropriate tweaks for the final build of the game.

Anyone who’s been on the receiving end of the Interceptor’s firepower is likely well aware of it’s overwhelming killing ability. Bungie has heard your pleas and has noted a few of the changes the studio will be making between now and launch. Here’s what designer Derek Carroll had to say in the latest Bungie Weekly Update:

“The Interceptor is a tank and should be treated with respect, but the Sandbox team made some tweaks to reduce the ‘apocalyptic firestorm’ factor a bit. The largest change is a lower rate of fire, with an additional delay between shots. This encourages the pilot to take aimed shots instead of just spamming rockets. More subtle changes include reducing the rocket blast radius, and shrinking the “arming shape” that allows the rockets to airburst on flying targets.

“Even with these changes, we felt that having two of them on First Light is less interesting than having a single Interceptor for both teams to fight over. At the start of each match, each team is given a single Pike, with another neutral Pike up for grabs. Additional Pikes will respawn throughout the match near the Control Zones. The Interceptor will spawn on a delay.”

What are your thoughts on Destiny’s vehicle gameplay so far? Considering all elements like the Sparrow, Pike, Interceptor, and Stationary Turrets, do you feel it’s fairly balanced overall, or does it need revisiting?

Bungie Will Send Players to the Moon on Last Day of Destiny Beta

Saturday, July 26. 2:00 PM PDT. Mark your calendars. We’re going to the Moon.

That’s where Bungie is sending players on the final day of the Destiny Beta in special mission only available for a limited time. The goal is to amass as many gamers as possible across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 to play the Destiny Beta at the same time in an effort to stress test Destiny’s online infrastructure.

Players who do decide to log in during the two-hour public event won’t leave empty handed. Participants will go home with a special nameplate for use in the final game when it ships September 9.

“This is a flash mob. Set your destination. The Iron Banner will be live. The Director will still beckon with the lures we’ve littered all across Old Russia,” writes community manager DeeJ in the latest Bungie Weekly Update.

“We’re even sending you on a new story mission. For this one, you’ll be glad you scrounged that jump drive from the wastes of the Cosmodrome. You don’t need us to tell you where you’re headed. We’ve marked it on the map since the moment when the Beta Build became a secret whispered about by only our friends and family. This new destination will be open to you for two hours.”

If you’re not quite sure what DeeJ is talking about, here’s the location found on Earth’s Moon that has been viewable but inaccessible since the Beta’s launch:

Screen Shot 2014-07-25 at 4.20.02 PMAnother event to look out for this Saturday is the continuation of the Iron Banner at these specific times.

As for when the Beta ends, here’s what DeeJ had to say: “The Wolf, our Theoretical Physicist, has told me that he wants some room to maneuver close to the conclusion of our little social experiment. So, I’m not telling you exactly when. Please play until we nail this thing shut.”

Remember, the beta is now open to all PlayStation and Xbox gamers with either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription, respectively. So, if you’ve got the time this weekend, download it for free, and we’ll see you online!

Vice and Call of Duty Present ‘Superpower For Hire: Rise of the Private Military’ Documentary

In collaboration with Call of Duty, Vice is taking a look at the history behind the rise of Private Military Corporations and their current activities around the globe today in a recently released short documentary.

In addition to acting as an informative piece on the subject, the documentary also serves as a set up to Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare where PMCs play a significant role in the game’s setting and story.

You can watch it above.

“Vice takes an unprecedented look into the shadowy industry of Private Military Companies. For the past two decades these private companies, like Black Water, Aegis and G4S have silently consumed military operations around the world, doing everything from back end logistics, protection of government VIP’s and diplomats to actual combat duties. In this documentary we explore the origins of this industry, their rise in the war on terror and their future operations around the world.”

We’ll get to learn much more about the rise of PMCs in Advanced Warfare’s fictional near-future universe when it launches November 4 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Advanced Warfare multiplayer will be playable at Gamescom this August 13-18. Keep your sights on MP1st for details!

BioWare Teases Nightmarish New IP, Teaser Site Hints Reveal at Gamescom

“The time is near. They are watching. Your power is rising. Cologne, Germany. You’ve Been Chosen.

These are the words written on the front page of a just recently launched teaser site for Mass Effect and Dragon Age developer BioWare’s new IP that was first mentioned during EA’s E3 2014 press conference last month.

The accompanying trailer is a live action sequence of a young man experiencing what looks like some sort of nightmare, clearly the theme that BioWare seems to be running with as we lead up to the new IP’s official unveiling.

As the words above hint, we’ll learn more during Gamescom, which takes place in Cologne, Germany starting on August 13. Check out the teaser trailer above.

Opinion – Welcome to Next-Gen, Same as the Last-Gen

A question was posed to me recently during a conversation that I was a bit surprised I didn’t have a great answer to:

“Well, what’s a really great next-gen only title?”, he asked.

“Uhhhh…”

When I arrived home later in the day, I checked through my current collection of PlayStation 4 titles only to find nothing that stood out as a definitive next-gen experience. Most of the titles I’ve downloaded off PSN could easily be purchased and played on any semi-competent PC built in the last half decade. There are some PS4 exclusive titles providing some nice visuals, but they don’t provide a gameplay experience worthy of investing in next-gen. Even multi-platform titles like Battlefield 4 are too frustrating to play to make a solid recommendation. Having some time to sit back and evaluate my purchase, the leap to next-gen really hasn’t been worth it thus far.

This leaves me to ponder: when is this generation of consoles going to live up to the next-gen promise?

Having played the alpha and dabbled in the beta, Destiny is easily my most anticipated title releasing this year. If you’re looking for glimmers of hope for this Holiday’s lineup, this is the only apparent shining star. The familiarity with the Halo-inspired gunplay no doubt bodes well for the competitive multiplayer component, but what really has me excited is Bungie’s ambition with their single-player and co-op component. Take the looting craze of Borderlands and Diablo, mix it with a player connected hub akin to Guild Wars, and top it off with a captivating sci-fi narrative from the makers of the Halo universe. Bungie isn’t just looking to make the definitive multiplayer experience. They have their sights set on a completely engrossing single-player experience that will make you never want to push the eject button, no matter what you’re in the mood for.

Beyond Destiny though, the remainder of this Fall’s AAA lineup leaves me entirely underwhelmed. Another year, another Call of Duty. Battlefield Hardline has thankfully been spared from the yearly Holiday cycle for more polish. Based on the E3 beta, it was playing out more like a cops and robbers skin on BF4 than a full-fledged $60 title. If you thought Ubisoft wouldn’t arrive for the Holiday release party, fret not! They’ve graced us with another open world title devoid of substance and female playable characters with more Assassin’s Creed. For next-gen gamers — or at least the ones who bought into the notion of new experiences — how are these releases any cause for excitement? All of these gameplay formulas have been thoroughly explored this past generation, and don’t appear to be exploring new avenues or taking any risks this generation.

What these titles do have going for them on next-gen platforms is increased resolution and framerate. But if that was all players were looking for, wouldn’t they be just as content with a PC? What is your take on this generation so far? Do you think buying into Microsoft and Sony’s new machines at launch was worth it? Do we need to wait until Holiday Season 2015 or beyond before developers really start pumping out the next-gen goodness? Let us know in the comments below.

Is “Titanfall 2” Going to be a Third-Person Shooter? Job Listings Suggest New Action-Exploration Game In the Works

Recent job postings for positions within Respawn Entertainment suggest the studio’s next project will some sort of third-person action/adventure game with elements of progression, story, and boss encounters.

“Respawn is seeking a Senior Systems Designer to embrace and contribute to the project vision, specifically in the areas of hero control/mechanics, enemy design, AI behaviors, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression, story, and boss encounters,” reads the description for Respawn’s newly opened Senior Systems Designer position.

It hints at the possibility of a larger focus on traditional single player or RPG experiences, or Respawn might be looking to include those same elements in yet another multiplayer-only title.

However, additional job listings strongly hint that gamers might indeed be looking at a third-person action/exploration game for the studio’s next release. Check out these three requirements for three different job listings:

Software Engineer

  • Experience working on 3rd person action/exploration games.

Senior Character Artist

  • Experience working on 3rd person action/exploration games.

Senior Animator

  • Experience working on 3rd person action/exploration games.

Of course, there’s no telling if what Respawn has in the works is a direct sequel to their 2014 sci-fi first-person shooter, Titanfall, or is even related to the new IP. That said, studio head Vince Zampella made it clear that he and his team do plan to expand Titanfall’s universe through a new publishing agreement with Electronic Arts.

Through a new publishing agreement, we’ll be working with Respawn to bring new Titanfall experiences to players worldwide,” he said last May. EA secured rights to Titanfall 2 last March.

Agent Locke Is a Playable Character in Halo 5: Guardians, More Details on Halo: Nightfall

Agent Locke, the mysterious figure featured in Halo 5: Guardian’s first key art and Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s debut trailer will be a playable character in 343 Industries’ next official installment in the Halo series.

The news comes out of 343’s San Diego Comic-Con 2014 panel earlier today where the studio dropped more details on the upcoming digital series, Halo: Nightfall, from producer Ridley Scott. Check out the debut trailer above and the first official key art right here:

Halo_Nightfall_KeyArt_Vertical_CC

According to the panel Halo: Nightfall is an origin story for UNSC soldier Jameson Lock, played by Mike Colter, and his journey on the road to becoming a Spartan and a key figure in Halo 5: Guardians. According to 343’s Frank O’Connor, Locke’s story in Nightfall will directly tie in to his role in Guardians as a playable character.

His alignment and intentions within the game’s story remain secret, however, as O’Connor is saving that information for SDCC 2015.

Halo: Nightfall will be available on Xbox Live this November 11 and is also included in every copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Meanwhile, check out some of the first screens on the set of the digital series.

The Destiny Beta’s Iron Banner PvP Event Returns This Weekend on PlayStation and Xbox

Bungie is bringing back the Iron Banner this weekend, a special Destiny Beta PvP event that takes place inside the Crucible where Guardians face off for reputation and the chance to win unique Iron Banner gear. This time, the playing field opens up to Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers as well.

In the Iron Banner, power ratings on your weapons and armor are taken into account, meaning you better show up with your best gear equipped. During the event, access to the Rusted Lands (Earth) and Blind Watch (Mars) will be granted, in addition to First Light (Earth’s Moon) and Shores of Time (Venus).

iron_banner_arenas

Bungie wants participants to note the following important points before this weekend’s events begin:

  • You must meet with Lord Saladin before you can compete. Seek him out in the Tower, opposite the landing zone.
  • The Iron Banner is accessed as a separate playlist in the Crucible.
  • The power ratings on your weapons and armor are crucial to victory. While combat in the Crucible offers a level playing field, the Iron Banner demands your very best gear.
  • Victory earns you reputation and rank to unlock special Iron Banner gear, and you can only browse or acquire your rewards while the event is live!
  • Iron Banner challenges are available from the Bounty Tracker to make your exploits in battle even more profitable.
  • If you reach your competition-worthy rank of Level 5 while this event is happening, you’ll need to check in with Lord Shaxx first. He’ll issue your Crucible invitation in the Hall of Guardians, just down the stairs from the main landing zone in the Tower.

The Iron Banner is only on at specific and limited times, so be sure to note the schedule below. All times in PDT.

Friday, July 25th

  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM*
  • 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Saturday, July 26th

  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM*
  • 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

*Earlier bouts added because we love our European players, too.

For your info, the Iron Banner event on Saturday, July 26 is not the ‘special’ event Bungie has planed for the final day of the Destiny Beta. More details on that are to follow, so stay tuned!

See you in the Crucible, Guardians.

Your Gamertag Could Be in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Sledgehammer Games is looking for a handful of lucky gamers to be a part of their upcoming shooter, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Today, the studio has opened a sweepstakes that will give four gamers the chance to have their gamertags featured in Advanced Warfare.

“Over the last three years, the team at Sledgehammer Games has worked to deliver a truly immersive experience in Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare€“ putting players in the boots of a Tier 1 Operator of the future. We felt like there was no better way to thank the loyal fans of the franchise than the opportunity to include your gamertag in the game. From all qualified entries, we will pick just FOUR gamers to have their gamertag featured in Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare. When the game ships Nov 4th, the world will get to see your gamertag in-game. It’s that simple, and we can’t wait to feature our fans in the game!”

The contest appears in celebration of “Hammer Week,” or Sledgehammer Games’ 5th anniversary with publisher Activision.

We’re not sure exactly how your gamertag will appear in-game — perhaps it will appear as the call sign for one of your NPC allies in the single player campaign? If that’s the case, I’m looking forward to hitting the trenches with Sgt. “xXQwikScopez420Xx” by my side.

To enter, all you have to do is fill out this form. (It appears only to be open to residents in the United States.)

We recently learned that Advanced Warfare multiplayer will be playable at Gamescom starting this August 13.
