Rumored Cryisis 3 DLC Incoming, New Achievements Surface

Recent achievement listings for Crysis 3 suggest the game will be getting its first DLC in the near future.

Posted by XB360A, the DLC will allegedly contain 250G worth of achievement points centered around this new DLC, which is said to include four new maps called Creek, Crossing, Ascent and Coastline. It’s also said to include two new game modes called Frenzy and Team Possession.

Team Possession is likely a variant of Capture the Flag, as one of the achievements mentions a flag. Another achievement titled “Totally Oarsome” makes mention of the “boat Oar,” which could be some sort of new vehicle-related weapon introduced in this Crysis 3 DLC.

Check out the full Achievement list below:

Black Ops 2 Uprising Gets a PS3 and PC Launch, Check out “The Replacers” Behind-The-Scenes

In celebration of Black Ops 2 Uprising DLC’s release on the PlayStation 3 and PC, Activision gives you a behind-the-scenes look at “The Replacers.”

[youtube id=”oOlmtoK8Vwg#!” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Upsrising is available today on the PlayStation3 and PC. It includes four brand new maps and one of Treyarch’s most ambition Zombies experience to date:

Magma

Lava carving through a modern Japanese village leaves rivers of fiery damage in its wake, providing players with dangerous terrain, compromised cover, and frenetic firefights for survival.

Encore

Set on the grounds following a bustling London music festival, the central stage provides players with a key vantage point overlooking the close-quarters battle of the surrounding amphitheater and main tents.

Vertigo

High above the clouds atop a mega skyscraper in India, players must battle across a VTOL landing pad and through the transportation terminal, bringing new dimensions of verticality to every battle.

Studio

Set on a Hollywood studio backlot, players will take cover in a wide-array of classic movie sets in this reimagined adaptation on the fan-favorite multiplayer map Firing Range.

Mob of the Dead

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising’s wildly creative new “Mob of the Dead” Zombies experience finds the four prohibition-era mobsters, Billy Handsome(Liotta), Al “The Weasel” Arlington (Pantoliano), Salvatore “Sal” DeLuca (Palmentiri), and Michael “Finn” O’Leary (Madsen) serving time in Alcatraz Prison, only to discover that being behind bars is the least of their problems. With plans to break out of Alcatraz foiled by the rise of the undead, the quartet of inmates will have to lean on their mob-derived skills with firearms, blunt instruments and improvised weaponry as they battle the zombies infesting and overrunning the island. In order to survive, players must work their way through the steel cells and aging concrete buildings while fighting off a multitude of zombified prisoners and guards trapped on the island with them. Additionally, if a player becomes an unfortunate victim, “Mob of the Dead’s” new feature known as “Purgatory” sends players into the afterlife. This new twist on Zombies gameplay is ripe with its own set of objectives, and offers fans a truly new and unique experience.

Uprising is free to those who own the Black Ops 2 season pass. Otherwise, you can pick it up for $14.99.

NOTE: Our apologies for the comment section, once again. DISQUS has a few issues to work out, it seems.

Activision’s Call of Duty placed first with Halo and Battlefield coming in 7th and 11th respectively. Of course, compared to other shooters, Call of Duty is the only series to see yearly new releases.

Black Ops 2 claimed the top spot for last year with its’ predecessor, Modern Warfare 3, coming in seventh. Meanwhile, Halo 4 finished at number 4, Borderlands 2 took the 8th spot, and 2011’s Battlefield 3 rounded out the top 10.

Lastly, Activision and EA traded places in the last two years as the leader in terms of the market share.

Looking ahead, Ubisoft hopes that it will  “lead to record sales for the industry,” and the publisher is utilizing “new IPs to capitalize on PS4′s launch,” starting with Watch Dogs.

League of Legends Patch 3.7 Notes

The big Freljord event Riot Games held with League of Legends has come to an end, and to celebrate, a new patch will be released tomorrow containing champion balance updates, as alwaysm some item changes, and general fixes.

The recently announced champion Aatrox hasn’t arrived to the PBE servers for beta testing, so we can be sure this patch won’t include him, and we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get more information about him and his history in League. With that said, let’s go with the official notes for this upcoming patch which also includes a long awaited feature: Summoners will now be able to create their own custom item sets for each of their favorite champions.

Akali

These two changes are intended to give Akali’s kit some utility. With Twilight Shroud now granting vision where it’s placed, Akali can perform interesting jungle and lane jukes by first casting Twilight Shroud to gain vision of an enemy or jungle monster, and then using Shadow Dance as an escape tool. Overall, it should be a cool little trick that adds some depth to this ability.

  • Twilight Shroud
    • Now grants vision in the area of effect
  • Shadow Dance
    • Essence of Shadow charge time reduced to 30/22.5/15 seconds from 35/25/15

Caitlyn

Caitlyn was crowding out a lot of other AD champions with her potent siege capabilities and strong lane trading potential. We wanted to highlight her weakness to extended trades as a sniper by reducing her base attack speed.

Additionally, by removing the accrual of headshot stacks when attacking turrets, it’ll be a little more difficult for Caitlyn to perpetually siege towers in early game while zoning out enemies with the threat of a headshot.

  • Base Attack Speed reduced to 0.625 from 0.668
  • Attack Speed per level increased to 4% from 3%
  • Headshot
    • No longer gains stacks when attacking structures

Cassiopeia

  • Twin Fang
    • Now counts as a single target spell for the sake of items like Rylai’s Crystal Scepter

Diana

As a melee champion, Diana should have an inherent weakness to lane harass. These changes are to reduce some of the safe and efficient wave clear Diana was getting from auto-attacking with her shield up in lane.

The shield change will help Diana in mid- to late-game team fights when she needs to dive into multiple enemies to engage. Before the changes, Diana’s shield refreshed almost immediately and she got no benefit from the first stack unless she took damage very quickly upon initiating. Now with her shields stacking on top of each other, Diana will gain a little more survivability in these kind of engagements.

  • Moonsilver Blade
    • Damage reduced to 20/25/30/35/40/50/60/70/80/90/105/120/135/155/175/200/225/250 (+0.6 Ability Power) from 20/25/30/40/50/65/80/95/110/125/140/155/175/195/215/240/265/290 (+0.6 Ability Power)
    • Range of the cleave behind Diana reduced
  • Pale Cascade
    • Total damage changed to 66/102/138/174/210 from 60/105/150/195/240
    • Shield reduced to 40/55/70/85/100 (+0.3 Ability Power) from 55/80/105/130/155 (+0.45 Ability Power)
    • The second application of the shield now stacks with the first shield instead of replacing it

Elise

Removing the bonus Armor and Magic Resist in Spider Form while increasing the ability power ratio on Skittering Frenzy will better position Elise’s offensive capabilities and vulnerabilities. Elise continues to be a very strong lane bully; she will just need to think carefully about when she can win a trade.

  • Skittering Frenzy
    • Ability Power ratio increased to 0.04 from 0.02
  • Spider Form
    • No longer grants bonus Armor and Magic Resist

Jarvan IV

  • Demacian Standard
    • Vision radius of the Standard reduced to 700 from 850

Karma

  • Inner Flame
    • Mantra Bonus – Soulflare
      • Slow area now spawns directly under the primary target

Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune excels at trading in lanes, but her Impure Shots were building too quickly and dealing too much burst damage with the use of Double Up. With this change, Miss Fortune loses some of her burst potential, but will do around the same damage in extended trades.

  • Impure Shots
    • Passive
      • Max stacks increased to 5 from 4
      • Damage per stack reduced to 4/6/8/10/12 from 6/8/10/12/14

Mordekaiser

  • Recommend items updated

Nami

These general usability buffs are for Nami to feel more impactful in team fights and skirmishes. In particular, with Surging Tides giving more movement speed and Aqua Prison having a longer stun duration, Nami players should feel better about playing aggressive in a lane.

  • Basic Attack Missile Speed increased to 1500 from 1350
  • Surging Tides
    • Bonus Movement Speed increased to 40 from 30
  • Aqua Prison
    • Stun duration increased to 1.5 seconds from 1.25

Nunu

Nunu naturally fits in the jungle with his strong objective control and high map mobility – these changes should add more depth within that role. Above all, we want Consume to be a cool spell -Consume has traditionally languished in late game for everything besides objective control, so making it an attractive spell with these changes adds more depth and rank-up incentive.

  • Consume
    • Damage increased to 600/700/800/900/1000 from 500/600/700/800/900
    • Healing reduced to 90/130/170/210/250 from 125/180/235/290/345
    • Healing ratio reduced to 0.75 from 1.0
    • Consume now grants bonuses for 120/150/180/210/240 seconds based on the type of monster consume was used on:
      • Golem-type monsters grant 10% increased size and maximum Health
      • Lizard-type monsters grant Nunu’s attacks and spells additional magic damage equal to 1% of Nunu’s maximum Health
      • Wraith or Wolf-type monsters grant 15% movement speed for 3 seconds after Nunu kills a unit

Quinn

  • Vault
    • Fixed a bug where Vault failed to interrupt targets that were immune to slows

Rammus

  • Puncturing Taunt
    • Can no longer target minions

Rumble

We did tone down some of Rumble’s overall damage, but we also took this opportunity to make Danger Zone more impactful in Rumble’s overall play. Here we’ve decided to increase his benefits for staying in the Danger Zone, so Rumble players will have more incentive to carefully manage their abilities.

  • Flamespitter
    • Damage decreased to 75/135/195/255/315 (+1.0 Ability Power) from 90/160/230/300/370 (+1.35 Ability Power)
    • Danger Zone damage bonus increased to 50% from 25%
  • Electro-Harpoon
    • Damage decreased to 45/70/95/120/145 (+0.4 Ability Power) from 55/85/115/145/175 (+0.5 Ability Power)

Syndra

  • Scatter the Weak
    • Improved detection of Dark Spheres at longer ranges

Twisted Fate

With his huge global map pressure in early and mid-game, we wanted to reduce Twisted Fate’s overall power without hitting the core components that make him fun. We’re changing the passive cooldown reduction on Stacked Deck to attack speed to take out some of the free power he was getting without much gameplay interaction. Additionally, given Destiny’s high impact, we’ve brought it more in line with other global ability cooldowns

  • Pick a Card
    • Blue card now restores 50/75/100/125/150 Mana instead of 26/39/52/65/78 (+0.6 total Attack Damage)
  • Stacked Deck
    • No longer grants Cooldown Reduction
    • Bonus Attack Speed increased to 10/15/20/25/30% from 3/6/9/12/15%
  • Destiny
    • Cooldown increased to 180/150/120 seconds from 150/135/120
    • Tooltips updated

Udyr

  • Tiger Stance
    • Fixed a bug that caused Tiger Strike to only apply in the first 5 seconds of the stance

Varus

Hail of Arrows makes Varus very strong in lane trades and zoning enemies out, but the strength of this ability was crowding out the intended use of Piercing Arrow as a high-damage snipe. With these changes, Hail of Arrows still has its strength in area control but it no longer completely trumps Piercing Arrow as a method of proccing Blighted Quiver and dealing high burst damage.

  • Base Movement Speed reduced to 330 from 335
  • Piercing Arrow
    • Minimum damage increased to 10/47/83/120/157 from 10/43/77/110/143
    • Maximum damage increased to 15/70/125/180/235 from 15/65/115/165/215
    • Improved hit detection at the end of the missile
  • Hail of Arrows
    • Damage reduced to 65/100/135/170/205 from 65/105/145/185/225
  • Chain of Corruption
    • Improved hit detection at the end of the missile

Warwick

These are mostly quality of life changes for Warwick, who actually spent more time channeling Infinite Duress than he spent suppressing his target. Additionally, the fact that Warwick will now always place himself in front of the target rather than in a random location around them should add a little more strategic depth to who he suppresses and when.

  • Infinite Duress
    • Channel time reduced to 1.5 seconds from 2.1 (the target is still suppressed for the full 1.8 seconds)
    • Infinite Duress now always places Warwick in front of the target rather than a random spot around the target

Zac

For all of the utility and sustain he brings, Zac was just a little too strong across the board. These changes should tone him down in places where he had excessive power – reducing the burst power of his ultimate and his already unusually high sustain from bloblets.

  • Base Health Regen reduced to 7.0 from 12.5
  • Let’s Bounce!
    • Damage reduced to 140/210/280 from 160/240/320
    • Fixed a bug where Let’s Bounce! was applying a 0.25 Ability Power ratio on every bounce rather than 0.4 on the first bounce, halved on subsequent bounces
    • Tenacity reduced to 50% from 75%

Zed

As a resourceless champion, Zed was able to farm efficiently and safely without giving his opponent much opportunity for interaction. These changes should hit his wave clearing efficiency, especially at early levels. The vision reduction on Zed’s Living Shadow was just to bring it more in line with other abilities of this type.

  • Razor Shuriken
    • Damage dealt to secondary targets reduced to 45/69/93/117/141 (+0.6 bonus Attack Damage) from 60/92/124/156/188 (+0.8 bonus Attack Damage)
  • Living Shadow
    • Vision radius of the Shadow reduced to 700 from 1300
  • Shadow Slash
    • Cooldown increased to 4 seconds from 3

Zyra

  • Thorn Spitter and Vine Lasher plants now correctly display their bonus damage from Ability Power
  • Thorn Spitter and Vine Lasher plants now benefit from Banner of Command’s minion damage aura

Items

Mana Manipulator

  • Recipe changed: Faerie Charm + 120 gold = 300 total gold
  • Mana Warp Passive Aura reduced to 5 Mana Regen per 5 seconds from 6

Mikael’s Crucible

Mikael’s Crucible is a very strong item for supports who want to stay on the back line out of harm’s way. Most supports, however, opt for Philosopher’s Stone in early game, which makes them adverse to buying another high-sustain item like Mikael’s Crucible. These changes also open up more diversity for supports when upgrading their Philosopher’s Stone – Shurelya’s offers more offensive and defensive disengage, but Mikael’s Crucible offers more in-fight potential.

  • Recipe changed: Philosopher’s Stone + Chalice of Harmony + 920 gold = 2500 total cost
  • Grants 7 Health Regen per 5 seconds from 0
  • Grants 18 Mana Regen per 5 seconds from 9
  • No longer grants Mana
  • Active Heal changed to “Heals for 150 + 10% of the target’s Maximum Health” from “Heals for 150 + 15% of the target’s Missing Health”, Cleanse effect unchanged
  • Active travel time changed to 0.2 seconds from variable with distance
  • Fixed an issue with the hit effect particle

Shard of True Ice

  • Total cost reduced to 1600 gold from 1700
  • Mana Warp Passive Aura reduced to 5 Mana Regen per 5 seconds from 6

Summoner’s Rift

While this change doesn’t seem significant, it will help auto-attack reliant laners when trading against ability-based laners. Champions who rely on lane harassment through abilities typically don’t draw minion attacks as much as auto-attack champions, and this disparity was forcing a lot of champions to opt for high-sustain starts in order to compensate. This change will have a larger overall effect on lane trading as the game progresses.

  • Caster Minions
    • Base Attack Damage reduced to 23 from 25

Howling Abyss

  • High Winds duration and intervals tweaked to match the pace of the music
  • Statue destruction algorithms tweaked to become more consistent throughout the match

Game Interface

  • Loss of Control UI
    • Loss of control indicators now appear underneath a player’s nameplate when the player’s champion is afflicted by a crowd control effect
    • A unique icon is displayed for each type of effect, and a shrinking progress bar indicates time remaining on the effect
    • When multiple, unique crowd control effects are active:
      • An additional icon is displayed for each unique effect type
      • The progress bar represents whichever effect has the longest remaining duration
      • Icons are removed as their associated effect type becomes inactive
    • Indicators are visible to the afflicted player, that player’s team and the player who inflicted the crowd control effect

Co-op vs. AI

  • Fixed a bug that caused Co-op vs. AI games on Twisted Treeline to award more IP/XP than intended for games under 20 minutes
  • Fixed a bug that caused Co-op vs. AI games on Twisted Treeline to award less IP/XP than intended for games over 20 minutes

League System

  • Fixed a number of cases where icons on the league view were not showing up correctly

General

  • Custom Item Sets
    • Custom item sets can now be created and edited in the summoner profile.
    • Saved item sets appear as an option in the Recommended tab of the in-game item shop
    • Item sets can be associated with a specific champion, multiple champions or all champions
    • Item sets can be associated with a specific map, multiple maps or all maps
  • Silence, Taunt, Stun, Fear and Suppress effects have been updated with a new, consistent visual
  • Karthus’ Requiem should no longer have a major FPS performance hit across all maps.
  • Rerolls in the ARAM queue will now prefer champions not being played by a member of the other team.
  • The ‘Random Champion’ option is no longer available in ranked game champion select.
  • Players who fail to connect to the game will now be granted the same bonus Magic Resistance/Armor that disconnected players receive.
  • Fixed a bug with certain AMD Radeon video cards when playing Dominion.
  • Players may now disable moving their champion via right-clicking on the minimap in the options menu.
  • Logitech G-Key, LED, and LCD technologies are now supported.
  • Fixed: Players joining private custom games in the PvP.net client were not able to submit passwords using the Enter key.
  • Adobe AIR no longer uses the Debug Launcher and has been updated to version 3.7. This should result in increased client stability.

Do you think these changes will help people to think about choosing the recently buffed champions, or will they stay underground as it has been lately? Will you use the new custom items set creator to make your own recipes? Post your comments below!

EA Will Ditch the Online Pass [Updated]

Indeed. A publisher who has become known for its use of the infamous online pass will completely do away with it for future titles.

Currently, a number of EA games – pretty much any recent EA title with an online or multiplayer component like Battlefield 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, or Dead Space 3 – include some sort of online pass code that must be input into your console or platform in order to access the game’s online content.

Should you purchase one of these titles used and that has previously had its online pass redeemed, you would then have to purchase the pass separately (if you want to access the content), putting extra cash in the pocket of the games’ publisher.

EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg recently told VentureBeat, “Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass. None of our new EA titles will include that feature.”Reseburg went on to mention that the decision was made based on consumer feedback, saying it “initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format. We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”

Lastly, Rosenburg added, “we’re still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing.”

Update

Speaking to EA VP of corporate communications Jeff Brown, GameInformer was able to gather further statements on the matter:

“There’s not much to say. The online pass came out in 2010. It was a way of packaging together a suite of post-launch content and services for people. There was also an element for people who bought the game second sale. It never really caught on. People didn’t like it. People told us that they didn’t like it and you know, we went through a cycle and we’re about to put out some new games and we just decided not to do that anymore. We’re 100 percent committed to creating on-going content and services so the consumers get more value out of the game – you know games like Battlefield and FIFA where there’s all sorts of new things that get added all the time – but the whole idea of packaging it up with an online pass, clearly it was not popular, so we listened to people and we stopped doing it.”

Other publishers using online passes have yet to make similar statements.

Looks like Battlefield 4 won’t have an online pass this Fall after all.

Thanks, Kotaku.

DUST 514 Launches on PSN, Successfully Binding PS3 and PC Players to “One Universe, One War” in New Eden

Yesterday, CPP games brought the ambitious, free-to-play, MMO FPS DUST 514 out of beta testing and into the ‘real world’ as it officially launched on the PlayStation Network, sucessfully connecting PlayStation 3 gamers with the world of EVE Online, launched 10 years ago, on the PC.

“We set out to create something so ambitious and so crazy that we as gung-ho Vikings, had no choice but to make work,” wrote creative director “CCP Praetorian” on the PlayStation Blog. “We sought to expand the EVE Universe from the stars to the planetary surfaces by creating an intense FPS on console and linking it to the largest single-shard PC-based MMO in history. Not only did we want to link DUST 514 to EVE, we wanted a ramped-up level of interaction where DUST mercs communicated with EVE pilots and cooperated in space and on the ground to generate galactic conflict of amazing scale.”

He adds that “this is only the beginning of the road for DUST 514 we turn it over into the hands of our players to mold and shape. We, the development team, will always be updating the game so that it grows with its players. And the ways they interact with DUST 514 are always evolving. At CCP, we think of launch as just that: the beginning of an endless upward climb. Today begins a truly exceptional gaming experience where the ramifications of every laser blast will be felt across the galaxy.”

Updated Destiny Website Describes Story, Worlds, Heros and Enemies

Bungie has updated their official website to give you a better look at what Destiny, a multiplatform, current- and next-gen, open world shooter from the creators of Halo, is all about.

Up to this point, we’ve seen numerous pieces of concept art from the team, but fans still aren’t 100% clear what Destiny actually looks like. The recently updated website still lacks real in-game screens, but does a much better job at outlining destiny’s story, worlds, characters, and enemies. You can check it out for yourself here, but we’ve also added some info and screens of Destiny’s heros and enemies below.

Make sure to visit the multimedia section if concept art is your thing. You’ll certainly find a lot.

Guardians

You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield some of the Traveler’s incredible power. You are taking this mantle just as a new day dawns. Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks have finally returned to our long-lost worlds, only to find out we are not alone.

Titan

The first Titans built the Wall, and gave their lives to defend it. Now, you stand in the same high place, steadfast and sure, protecting all who shelter in your shadow. You hail from a long line of heroes, forged from strength and sacrifice. Our enemies may be deadly and merciless, but so are you.

Titan_full

Hunter

Hunters once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards. You’re no outlaw—at least, not anymore—but making your own luck has always meant bending the rules. Your unique brand of daring and ingenuity is needed now more than ever.

Hunter_full

Warlock

Warlocks have long studied the Traveler, mastering some of its arcane energies. Its true purpose still remains a great mystery, but discovering truth has always driven you into the unknown. Now, our enemies are the only thing that stands between you and the lost wonders of our Golden Age.

Warlock_full

Fallen

The Fallen are a scourge, tirelessly engaged in war against us and scavenging all that remains. They say their Houses have claimed every planet and moon we ever touched. If you see one in the wild, know there are many more nearby, and don’t hesitate to send their souls screaming into the black.

Dreg

These relentless thieves seem driven by desperation and rage. They are crafty, but they usually give up their cover with their clattering and hissing. Most seem outfitted with some kind of shock dagger and pistol, and as far as we can gather, they seem to only have two arms, while other Fallen have four.

Dreg_full

Captain

Fallen run in packs, led by an individual Captain. There is no denying a Captain’s might; they are the fiercest of the Fallen. There is this sense of tattered nobility to them. You can see it in the way they carry themselves. They think they’re better than us. They believe that Earth belongs to them.

Captain_full

Vandal

The truths about the Fallen chain-of-command are still making themselves known, but Vandals appear to hold a higher ranking than the Dregs, and deadlier weapons, too. They often have long range capability, but, lucky for us, their weapons take time to charge.

God of War: Ascension To Get Free Multiplayer Maps, More DLC Being Worked On

God of War: Ascension received some new DLC yesterday, which included new weapons and armors, but beyond that, many users were curious about the new maps shown in the recently released DLC trailer asking whether or not the season pass holders would have to pay for these.

Well, the good news is that no one has to pay for them and they’ll be offered to everyone for free, even those who don’t hold a season pass.

One thing that many users hate about multiplayer gaming, especially for games with a small install base for multiplayer, is splitting the community. Luckily for God of War fans, the guys over at Santa Monica are aware of this concern and they’ll be offering some free maps by the end of this month or next month. In responses to comments and questions on the PS Blog, Aaron Kaufman, Community Strategist at Santa Monica Studio, stated:

“The new maps are being finalized right now, these are not the only maps we are working on either. We have a LARGE map that is further out, we’ll be showing that gem next month at some point.”

“The two new Maps you saw in the trailer are trending for release by end of this month. We’ll keep you guys posted on timing. We are working on other maps beyond those as well.”

“The two maps we have coming out, will be free. And we are working on more.

It’s an industry movement, but we’re definitely exploring all ways to balance our FREE and PAID content for our community as best as possible.”

Don’t forget, Spartans, that the PS Store updated with some new gear for you to download.

DICE Opening New Studio in LA to Recruit Top Talent, New Job Listings Surface

As DICE expands its development resources to work on multiple titles in years to come, the developer has opened an LA based studio with the main objective to recruit top talent.

Speaking with the Wall Street Journal via Joystiq, DICE’s General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson stated,”there is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of. It’s no secret that our main competitor is there,” in reference to Activision’s two main Call of Duty studios, Infinity Ward and Treyarch, being located in Southern California.

DICE is keen to ensure that the new studio will have the same Nordic work environment, where management makes decisions by consensus and employees are empowered to take long parental leaves to care for their children.

The recent Star Wars announcement has played a big part in the decision to open the LA based studio. Troedsson elaborated that the new Star Wars title will either “creating an entirely new experience or piggybacking on an older Star Wars game series”. He adds, “for me it’s a boys dream come to life, I’ve grown up with Star Wars.”

The new studio already opened its’ doors, and some EA employees from the Medal of Honor series have joined the operations along with outside talent.

@Battleifeld announces the new studio

In addition, VG247‘s Dave Cook dug up a few job listings for the newly formed studio. DICE is looking for development manager to “manage and coordinate the maintenance of EA’s Android and iOS catalogue of games.”

Another listing for a level designer reads, “we are looking for an experienced individual, who has shipped successful social/mobile products and has maintained a live service product.

“We require a seasoned game designer with experience in cross platform, saved state games/applications. This will be a crucial member of the game team as well as the Product Team responsible for these titles”.

This position emphasizes the following, “experience with both sync and async play behaviours familiarity with a female 35+ gamer demographic, and familiarity with the mass casual game space.”

Activision Is Selecting Participants for a “Focus Group” to “Shape the Future of Call of Duty”

It appears that Activision is in the midst of selecting participants for a “focus group” through Call of Duty ELITE for an upcoming special event in Los Angeles.

This image reveals an invitation to join a focus group in Los Angeles that will “help improve and shape the future of Call of Duty.”

A7Dv52S

No word as to what the event might pertain to or to which Call of Duty game it relates. While it likely involves Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, it could also have something to do with the series’ eSports initiative that gained significant momentum in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and during the more recent Call of Duty Championships.

What do you guys think?

MP1st readers have confirmed to us that the event takes place on either May 20th or May 21st.

We’ll make sure to update with more info once we learn more.

Update

The Reddit user and invitee who originally posted the image wrote, “It seemed to me that it was more so for elite than it was ghost. Either way I’m pretty excited.” He added, “I’ve filled many selective beta surveys. This didn’t give off that vibe.”

Killzone: Shadow Fall PlayStation 4 Demo Technical Presentation Slides

Last February, Sony unveiled the upcoming, next-gen title in the Killzone series, Killzone: Shadow Fall, running on the PlayStation 4, and it looked amazing

As a quick reminder of how good the game actually looked, here’s the demo that was presented during Sony’s press conference.

[youtube id=”fL2kXenfz1Q” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Developer Guerrilla Games has recently made a technical presentation of the demo available online in the form of a number of slides.

It neatly presents what exactly you saw during the demo, including CPU Details, Memory, Performance, Optimizations, GPU Details, Lighting, Characters (with comparison to Killzone 3), Shaders, Particles ,Volumetrics, and much, much more.

The slide presentation itself is rather long, but very informative, especially if you’re tech savvy. You can catch the first slide below (which also makes mention of an unannounced new IP in development at Guerrilla Games) or the entire thing in full right here.

DICE To Introduce the “Frostbite GO” Game Engine for Mobile Devices

Earlier today, Battlefield developers DICE launched the official website for their trademark Frostbite technology, a place to learn about the Frostbite team and the games that their technology powers.

Interestingly, the website’s “History” page makes mention of their tech making its way to mobile devices.

“One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms,” reads an excerpt of the text.

EA has stated their intent to use Frostbite tech for a number of upcoming games, including titles from the Battlefield, Need for Speed, Dragon Age and Mass Effect series. It wouldn’t be completely out of the question to see mobile versions of any of these titles.

Currently, Frostbite 2 powers games like Battlefield 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Need for Speed: The Run. During a presentation in San Francisco last  they announced that Battlefield 4, releasing this fall, would be the first game powered by the brand new Frostbite 3 engine.

Though highly unlikely, would you play a mobile version of Battlefield? Let us know in the comments!

Thanks, GameInformer and Pixel Enemy

Battlefield 4 – DICE Launches Official Frostbite 3 Website

Ever wonder why Battlefield 3 looks so good for a first-person shooter that not only features some of the biggest playable battlefields on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but also 64 player battles with destruction, vehicles, and a ton of weapons?

You have the Frostbite team thank for that, a portion of the DICE development studio dedicated to building and optimizing the game engine that runs the Battlefield games you love, as well as other past titles like Medal of Honor: Warfighter and upcoming titles from the Need for Speed, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect series. The same tech will also be powering the upcoming Star Wars games from DICE.

Along with the unveiling of Battlefield 4, DICE also announced that the game would be powered by the brand new Frostbite 3 engine. Previously, Battlefield 3 was built on Frostbite 2 while Bad Company 1 and 2 were built on Frostbite 1 and 1.5, respectively.

During Battlefield 4’s announcement, executive producer Patrick Bach mentioned that, with Frostbite 3, the team hopes to create a Battlefield experience that is “human, dramatic and believable.” He said that with the power of the new engine, “nothing is holding us back” and that there are “no excuses.”

Just yesterday, the DICE Frostbite team launched their official website introducing gamers to the engine, as well as providing a platform for expanding the studio. Previously, only a single page with the Frostbite 3 logo was present. Now, you can explore the team, games powered by the engine, as well as jobs.

Check it out for yourself here.

Johan Andersson, Frostbite Technical Director, and Roland Smedberg, DICE Senior Video Director, both celebrated the launch of the official Frostbite website on Twitter.

Black Ops 2 Double Weapon XP Event Starts May 17th

With the latest Black Ops II DLC pack hitting PS3 and PC on May 16th, Treyarch will be holding yet another Double XP event.

The team behind Black Ops II has announced through the in-game message system that players can expect to earn double weapon XP this weekend.

“Don’t even think about resting those thumbs, because Double Weapon XP weekend is coming this Friday, May 17, starting at 10am/PDT and running though Monday, May 20 at 10am/PDT,” wrote Treyarch on the MOTD.

Here’s a photo I snapped of the announcement on Xbox 360. Keep in mind, Treyarch always runs the same even for all platforms, so PS3 and PC users should expect the same treatment.

Double XP MP1st

We recently also reported that Treyarch is also working on an update for the PC version of the game and might enable Call of Duty: Ghosts camo on PC.

Having reached Master Prestige few weeks ago, I’m really looking forward to levelling up the rest of the weapons I overlooked. Are you guys excited for this event?

Incoming Battlelog Update Will Help Support “The Future of Battlelog”

An incoming update for Battlefield 3’s social stat-tracking service, Battlelog, will fix some bugs and improve navigation, according to a recent news update from the DICE team.

“Battlelog will receive a minor update on May 14, mainly focused on bug fixes and some redesigned elements to make navigation quicker and clearer,” reads the post.

In addition a lot of “under the hood” work is being done to support “the future of Battlelog.” This includes a new design for the menus, Com Center and Game manager.

Players can expect approximately 1 hour of down time on May 14 at around 10am CET.

BLMay14-618x241

Battlelog’s Twitter account mentions that the update “won’t bring any new features, but the redesigned areas are a tiny glimpse of things to come.” In the wake of the Battlefield 4 announcement, developer DICE has been teasing an upgraded version of the Battlelog – or Battlelog 2.0, to be exact.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlelog updates!
