Battlefield 4 Reveal Incoming “In About 90 Days”

Expect more Battlefield goodness in about three months, according to Electronic Arts.

Commenting earlier on the recent challenges that EA faced with the poor reception of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, the company made it clear that it would no longer be included in the rotation of yearly blockbuster shooters. However,  chief operating officer Peter Moore expressed the company’s intent “to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings.”

When asked to clarify in a recent earnings call what was exactly meant by this, President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau said, “it was really about a hit missing, but the rest of the studios have really performed and delivered on their goals.”

He added, to clarify Moore’s earlier statement, “…we’ve already talked a little bit about that we have a Battlefield title coming next year, but we’re not in a position right now to talk about our development plans and our SKU plan long term. That will come in about 90 days when we get to show you some Battlefield stuff.”

Considering post-launch DLC support for Battlefield 3 will (officially) end by March, after the release of End Game, an official reveal of DICE’s next installment in the series would be more than likely by April, the latest. With Battlefield 4 being an obvious choice, might we also hear talk of an increased production rate of Battlefield games in general?

Earlier in April, Sony and Microsoft are rumored to reveal next-generation hardware as well. This could tie in to the reveal of next-gen “Battlefield stuff,” seeing that EA CEO John Riccitiello stated later in the call, “we think Battlefield and FIFA are going to help us lead as we move into the next set of technology opportunities and platform opportunities, and continue to get bigger.”

So far, Battlefield 4 has only been confirmed to release before March, 2014.

Are you excited to hear more about Battlefield 4?

Halo 4 – Next Week’s Playlist Update is All About Team Doubles, Competitive Playlist Officially Named

This Monday, February 4, Team doubles will be making its way to Halo 4, along with a few other Capture the Flag updates and new Specialization unlocks.

First and foremost, the Community Forge Test playlist will be taking a break next week, but will return at a later date. Those looking forward to the recently detailed competitive playlist will be happy to know that it has now been officially named. Though further details are still forthcoming, “Team Throwdown” will be the title of this particular playlist. If you haven’t yet, check out the initial details for Team Throwdown here.

343 Industries has three different Team Doubles game types lined up for this Monday’s playlist update: Infinity Doubles, Doubles Pro and CTF Doubles.

Descriptions as seen on the Halo Bulletin:

Infinity Doubles

The Infinity Slayer experience in 2 vs 2 form. In this variant, players have the option to choose their custom loadout, and instant respawn and radar are enabled. Personal ordnance will kick in at the traditional 70 point mark, but the options are tweaked specifically for Team Doubles. Games are played up to 300 points.

Doubles Pro

An experience that features preset game loadouts. The score limit is the same as above, but radar, personal ordnance and instant respawn are disabled. Here are the loadouts that will be featured:

Loadout 1:
Starting Weapon – DMR
Secondary Weapon – Magnum
Armor Abilities – None
Tactical Mod – Resupply
Support Mod – Dexterity

Loadout 2:
Starting Weapon – BR
Secondary Weapon – Magnum
Armor Abilities – None
Tactical Mod – Resupply
Support Mod – Dexterity

Loadout 3:
Starting Weapon – LightRifle
Secondary Weapon – Magnum
Armor Abilities – None
Tactical Mod – Resupply
Support Mod – Dexterity

Loadout 4:
Starting Weapon – Carbine
Secondary Weapon – Magnum
Armor Abilities – None
Tactical Mod – Resupply
Support Mod – Dexterity

CTF Doubles

The ever-popular Capture the Flag game type, customized for 2 vs 2 play. Custom loadouts and radar are enabled, and respawn time is set to 10 seconds. Flag settings provide an optimal experience for small maps and teams: 5 flags to win, 3 second return, and 15 second reset. Lastly, your flag does not have to be home to score.

As for the non-Doubles CTF playlist, new maps will be added (Relay and Exile) while the flag reset time on Adrift, Abandon, Solace and Relay will be dropped to 15 seconds. This is to account for the smaller map sizes. Those looking to get their CTF fix more often will be happe to know that Infinity CTF will now be added as a voting option when matchmaking. This variant will allow players to call in personal ordinance, something that should hopefully add variety to the game play.

As for specializations, this week’s unlocks include Rogue and Tracker.

Rogue

Spartan optimization for single-operative missions which require a lone Spartan to be deployed on their own for incredibly long durations of time, even years if required. The Stability armor mod allows users to increase their aiming stability when being fired upon.

Tracker

Spartan optimization for long-range target tracking (trans-continent and off-world), particularly in scenarios where conventional tracking has failed or such a substantial time has passed that the trail has gone cold. The Requisition armor mod allows users the ability to recall their own ordnance requests in order to acquire more helpful weapons in the field.

That about does it for next week’s Halo 4 playlist updates. Are you looking forward to more Capture the Flag?

Battlefield 3: End Game Maps Inspired by Four Seasons, More on Dropship and AA Vehicles

There’s quite a bit to look forward to this march with Battlefield 3’s final expansion, End Game.

Just recently, we learned the Air Superiority game mode would be joining the re-introduction of Capture the Flag (originally seen in Battlefield 1942) which would star the fast and furious motor-bike as a brand new vehicular addition to Battlefield 3’s already vast lineup of war machines.

What we still don’t know very much about are the four new maps themselves or some of the other vehicles that will also become a part of Battlefield 3’s gameplay this March like the lightweight AA vehicle or the new dropship.

According to a recent post on the Battlefield 3 blog, you’ll be able to “jump into the seat of two new AA vehicles or use the new dropship to call in reinforcements or parachute in behind enemy lines.”

You’ll be able to defend yourself from both aerial and ground attacks with the new roof mounted AA turret and rocket launcher attached to this troop transport vehicle. Considering it’s original purpose of “transportation,” it most likely won’t be that heavily armored, however. Like the AC130 Gunship introduced in Armored Kill, the dropship will be awarded to the team that captures and holds the central flag in Conquest. It will let you drop in an additional Fighting Infantry Vehicle by parachute or allow soldiers to paradrop from its location.

Interestingly, the four new maps in End Game will be based on the four seasons within a year, according to the blog. “By making each map distinctly unique, End Game serves as a beautiful reminder of the broad range of vistas we can deliver with the Frostbite 2 engine, and how the environment influences gameplay in subtle ways,” writes DICE. “From the beautiful fall-themed Operation Riverside, with its many rivers and electrical sub-stations, to snowy Sabalan Pipeline, End Game brings all of your favorite settings into one tight package.”

Operation Riverside is most likely the map that was featured in End Game’s premier trailer.

So far, End Game seems to be a fitting close to Battlefield 3’s post-launch DLC support. Each of the four new maps will bring flavors of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, while classic game modes from both Battlefield: 1942 and 1943 return in style.

Looking forward to it?

Thanks, DelucaFTW, for the tip.

Killzone: Mercenary Gameplay Trailer – Runs and Looks As Good As Console, Multiplayer Details

It’s been months since we last heard about the PS Vita FPS exclusive, Killzone: Mercenary, and with today being the lift of the media embargo, many outlets have come out to say that the title runs and looks just as good as PlayStation 3 console titles.

Running on the very same engine that Killzone 2 and 3 used, Mercenary is set to offer the PS Vita one unique, and for the first time, true Multiplayer experience for handhelds. Don’t believe us? Take a look at this new gameplay trailer, showing it off in all its glory.

[youtube id=”ycF7AozMYmk” width=”618″ height=”378″]

As for the Multiplayer, the game will sadly have a total of only 8 players, meaning 4 vs. 4 matches. While that’s a bit of a bummer, we have to remember that the Vita has yet to receive a first-person shooter on this scale. As for maps, it will have a total of 6 with three game modes, one being the popular Warzone. And, as title of the game suggests, you’ll be playing as a mercenary, earning money for every single action you do. This is all stored in a unified bank, so whether you’re playing single-player or multiplayer, all the money is shared and can be used for unlocks and such.

VG24/7 has also posted a full six minute gameplay video, showing exactly how Mercenary utilizes the Vita.

[youtube id=”rOy5ztkZr3c” width=”618″ height=”378″]

killzone m

killzone m1

Killzone: Mercenary is set to release this September, exclusively for the Vita. One thing I would like to point out is that you’ll notice the frame-rate issues in both videos. While it may be there, we have to remember that this is nearly 8 months away from release. So expect mass improvements when it comes to performance, which was said to run somewhere between 45 to 60 FPS.

EA: “Medal of Honor Was An Obvious Miss,” Will Be Taken Out of Rotation of Yearly Shooters

Due to poor performance, Electronic Arts will be pulling the Medal of Honor series out of the rotation of yearly blockbuster shooters.

During an investor call today, chief operating officer Peter Moore commented on some of the challenges EA face this holiday quarter, namely, “the slowdown that impacted the entire sector and poor critical and commercial reception for Medal of Honor: Warfighter.”

“Medal of Honor was an obvious miss,” he adds. “The game was solid but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers.”

This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation, and have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings.”

Released last October 23rd, Medal of Honor: Warfighter was met with shaky reviews, earning low scores across the board. However, Moore felt they were, “…frankly, lower than it deserved.” We commended Danger Close for a solid multiplayer effort, though it was not enough to keep a happy and healthy community.

Are you sad to see the Medal of Honor franchise go? Do you think the series might ever see yet another “reboot” in the future?

Borderlands 2 – Developers Hint At Upcoming DLC, New Hot Fix Now Live With Notes

With Borderlands 2’s latest expansion DLC, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, now in our hands, fans are left to wonder what’s to expect for the fourth expansion, set to hit before June 2012, according to the Borderlands 2 season pass.

Thankfully, you don’t have to wait long for details. Creative director Paul Hellquist and writer Anthony Burch of Borderlands 2 give us a small hint on what we can be expecting on the unannounced expansion DLC during a recent interview with the folks over at  Gamerzone.

When asked about exploring unexpected, bizarre ideas and territories like other games in the past have done with their DLCs (eg. Red Dead Redemption and the inclusion of zombies), Paul Hellquist stated that fans of Borderlands 2 might see a rather bizarre idea come to light with an upcoming add-on DLC in the near future.

But that’s not all, if you are one of the many Zero players who have been distraught due to a bug in the Slayer Of Terramorphous class mod, which included a skill from the Gunzerker class, you’ll be happy to know that as of now, a new hot fix is live that fixes this issue and more. Issues like Torgue’s vending machines not containing level 50 legendary loot have also been looked at. For the full rundown of what exactly has been addressed with this hot fix, feel free to check the notes over at Gearbox’s site, or just scroll down:

January 29 Hot Fix Notes

  • Adjusted Mechromancer’s Sweetheart class mod to correctly increase team health.
  • Assassin’s “Slayer of Terramorphous” class mod no longer includes Gunzerker skill bonus.
  • Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage : Critical hits against Midgets now register properly.
  • Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage : Rat Thief enemies are no longer allowed in Pete’s Bar due to patron concerns regarding excessive theft.
  • Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage : Torgue vending machines can now stock up to level 50 legendary weapons.

Unfortunately, since this is a hot fix, you’ll have be connected to the internet at all times if you wish to have the above fixes working.

In additional Borderlands 2 news, here’s a sweet image of a rather bad-ass boss that was set to be included in Borderlands 2 by the name of Tyrant, but was cut from the game:

With a game as quirky and unexpected as Borderlands 2, what do you wish to see be included in the world of Pandora via DLC? Let us know in the comment section below!

Battlefield 3: End Game DLC Introduces The Air Superiority Game Mode

According to an unadvertised update on the Battlelog, it looks like Air Superiority will be making its way to Battlefield 3’s End Game expansion pack this March along with the previously announced game mode, Capture the Flag.

Air Superiority, introduced in Battlefield: 1943 and not appearing in any other Battlefield game since, is an aerial battle for territory, much like Tank Superiority, introduced in Battlefield 3: Armored Kill. According to End Game info found on the Premium section of the Battlelog, it will appear along side Capture the Flag, a mode that should put End Game’s new motor-bike vehicles in the spotlight.

Check out Battlefield: 1943’s Air Superiority game mode in action:

Live-action films created by fans have always been great to watch. Considering that they’re low-budget and usually do better than what Hollywood would produce, films based on games have been popular with them since they are, after all, the fans. Knowing everything that we want in them, YouTuber group, JasonRoseteFilm has released a live-action film of Black Ops Zombies. While, yes, it does have some cheap effects, it’s nonetheless one of the most impressive ones out there. Watch closely as you’ll miss plenty of Zombie Easter eggs throughout the videos.
