The Last of Us Part 1 Update 2.002 Fixes Crashes Connected to Weapon Kills

After months of silence and no activity on The Last of Us Part 1, Naughty Dog has now issued its third patch for the game in the span of four weeks. While we already received the PS5 Pro enhancement patch last month, the studio has now pushed out The Last of Us Part 1 update 2.002 that aims to resolve some serious gameplay-affecting issues.

The Last of Us Part 1 Crashing Issues Connected to Enemy Kills With a Weapon Finally Resolved in Update 2.002

General

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when killing an enemy with any weapon
  • Fixed an issue where in-game visuals could appear sharper than intended when playing on a base PS5 model

That’s about it in terms of fixes. There was also a patch released earlier this month which housed the following fixes:

General

  • Fixed a crash that could occur during the final cutscenes of “Jackson” (Chapter 12 of the main story) and “Escape from Liberty Gardens” (the final section of “Left Behind”)
  • Fixed a crash that could occur during melee combat
  • Fixed an issue where the “Motion Blur” option was not being applied when enabled

Left Behind

  • Fixed an issue where the “Don’t Go” trophy would never unlock if the player crashed before it could be awarded

Unless something game-breaking such as this big persists in the game, don’t expect another update from Naughty Dog anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 Tops 30 Million Units Sold With Phantom Liberty Over 8 Million Units; Witcher 4 Enters Full-Scale Production

It looks like CD Projekt RED’s consistent updates to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to what was initially promised has bore fruit, as the game continues to sell quite well, and has now breached 30 million units sold.

This was revealed by CD Projekt RED in the company’s Q3 2024 wrap up report. Not only that, but even the game’s lone DLC, Phantom Liberty, is also doing well, as it has now reached over eight million units sold, which means CDPR sold over three million copies of the DLC since it’s five-million sales milestone was announced 11 months ago.

Cyberpunk 2077 Continues to Sell Well for CD Projekt RED

Michał Nowakowskim, Joint-CEO of CDPR announced the sales milestones stating, “In less than four years since release we’ve already sold 30 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077, and as for Phantom Liberty – in just over a year it has sold over 8 million copies. These are impressive figures. I’m very happy to see a large, dedicated community coalesce around our Cyberpunk games. In the coming year the base game, along with its expansion, will be released to a new group of users: owners of Mac devices powered by Apple Silicon chips.”

The Witcher 4

Outside of the sci-fi RPG franchise, CDPR also confirmed that Project Polaris, the codename for the first game in the next Witcher trilogy (which we’re tentatively calling Witcher 4), has now entered full-scale production! Nowakowskim notes, “I’m proud to confirm that several weeks ago the Polaris team wrapped up preproduction and moved on to full-scale production – the most intensive phase of development. We are very pleased with our progress on this project, and I wish to thank the team for its dedication.”

While not much is known about The Witcher 4, Geralt’s voice actor did confirm the character’s involvement in the game, though he won’t be the protagonist. Chances are, that’ll be Ciri, which was sonething CDPR alluded to at the end of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

In terms of gameplay, CDPR has said that players shouldn’t expect the new Witcher game to just be The Witcher 3 “in new clothing,” as the studio promises new gameplay elements and mechanics to be part of the upcoming action-RPG. Given it’s just now entering full production. don’t expect the new Witcher game to be available soon, as the earliest we’ll probably hear of it is sometime in 2026.

There’s a lot brewing at CD Projekt RED, as not only is The Witcher 4 in development, but the studio is also working on a The Witcher remake of the first game, and also “Project Sirius,” which is a Witcher game that features multiplayer.

Nintendo to Close Switch eShop and Online Services in China in 2026

Nintendo has announced that it will close the Nintendo Switch eShop in China and other related online services in 2026. This decision affects the Chinese version of the store, which offers a limited selection of games and requires connection to local servers. However, users who imported their consoles will still have access to the international eShop.

Starting on March 31, 2026, the Chinese eShop will no longer offer games or apps for sale, meaning new purchases will not be possible after that date. Then, on May 15, 2026, users will no longer be able to download previously purchased games, DLC, or redeem codes.

The Chinese version of the Nintendo Switch is distributed through a partnership between Nintendo and Tencent. Tencent oversees the distribution of the console and its online services. Launched in 2020, the system originally offered only one game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Since then, additional titles have been localized for the Chinese market, though the overall selection remains relatively limited.

To support users during this transition, starting tomorrow, November 27, and continuing until March 31, 2026, owners of a Chinese Nintendo Switch with an active WeChat account will be able to claim four free games of their choice from the following list:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Mario Party
  • Mario Tennis Aces

In other Nintendo news, the company has confirmed that its next console will be compatible with Nintendo Switch games, allowing players to carry over their current library to the new system.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Update 1.007.002 Adds Color Blind Support on PS5

Nixxes Software alongside Guerrilla Games have rolled out the latest title update for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PS5, and this is for patch 1.07, which was released on PC last week. Those on PS5 will see this as Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered update 1.007.002, and it has a smaller list of fixes compared to the PC patch.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Adds Color Blind and Auto Pick Up Option in Patch Version 1.007.002

Here’s what’s new according to Nixxes:

  • Added Auto Pickup option to Pickups setting.
  • Color Blind Mode is now available.
  • Machine eyes now flash before attacking as intended.
  • Addressed a rare issue where the gate to Meridian would not load correctly on the first encounter.Fixes for various bugs and minor visual issues.

The PC patch (version 1.3), which was released last week, also housed the following fixes not included in today’s PS5 update:

  • Rumble now also works for DualSense controllers connected via Bluetooth*.
  • Custom key mapping and button bindings for Mount actions now conflict as intended when binding multiple actions to the same key or button.
  • Fixes for various bugs and minor visual issues.

Those on PC, there was also a hotfix released this November 22, which had the following fix:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from setting traps when the Disarm Traps skill was unlocked and Auto Pickup was enabled.

Report: Ubisoft Wants Steam to Remove Concurrent Player Counts

Update From the Editor: It seems that upon further investigation, this “source” is unreliable, and has been known to cause controversy when there is none. While we are leaving the article up as a reference point, we would take anything said by the original source with a huge truckload of salt.

There’s no surprise that Ubisoft is struggling right now. Their stock price is down, and recent games haven’t gained much attention. Investors are getting worried, with some even suggesting Ubisoft should go private to take control of its future.

According to Fandom Pulse (paywalled), a Ubisoft insider has revealed that the company has asked Valve to remove or hide the concurrent player count data for its games on Steam. Ubisoft is reportedly unhappy that gamers, the press, and investors can easily see how poorly their games are performing, especially with tracking tools like SteamDB that show the number of simultaneous players.

The company allegedly wants Steam to stop showing this data in order to better manage the perception of their titles. As the Ubisoft insider told Fandom Pulse, “Ubisoft and other companies want to pressure Steam to stop Stream tracker from giving out info they want to keep to themselves.” The goal seems to be to present a more favorable picture to investors, who could be discouraged by the reality of their games’ lackluster performance.

A prime example is Star Wars: Outlaws, which was expected to perform well given its massive marketing budget. However, despite being released nearly three months ago, the game hasn’t even sold two million units yet. Reports from September showed it had only sold around 1 million copies in its first month.

Investors had initially hoped the game would sell at least five million units in its first month, as noted in an analyst call with Barclays’ Nick Dempsey, where he questioned whether Ubisoft was being overly conservative in their projections. Unfortunately, those expectations have not been met.

Star Wars: Outlaws Debuted with Just 834 Peak Concurrent Players on Steam

The situation worsened when Star Wars: Outlaws launched on Steam. The game had a disappointing debut with just 834 peak concurrent players, and while that number grew to 2,492 over the weekend, it still remains extremely low for a AAA title. This follows the release of a 25% discount and the launch of the game’s first story pack, both attempts to boost player engagement.

Given all this, it’s not surprising that Ubisoft would want to remove access to this data. As with other major media companies, Ubisoft seems to be following a trend of trying to obfuscate their performance metrics. Disney, Netflix, and even comic book publishers have all been criticized for hiding or manipulating data to avoid public embarrassment.

However, it remains to be seen whether Ubisoft can turn things around, but one thing is clear: hiding player counts or sales data won’t fix the bigger problem that Star Wars: Outlaws—and Ubisoft’s recent games in general—are struggling to engage players.

Alan Wake 2 Update 1.200.005 Nerfs Thrower Enemies, Fixes PS5 Pro Issue

Remedy Entertainment has pushed out Alan Wake 2 update 1.200.005 (Xbox version 1.2.0.5/PC version 1.2.5), and this brings various improvements and additions to The Lake House and Night Springs DLCs, alongside fixes, and even nerfs the Thrower enemy.

  • [Final Draft] Fixed a manuscript page in Return 6 that sometimes could not get picked up. 
  • Fixed some map markers persisting after interaction. 
  • Fixed Sheriff Stash that could not be opened in Initiation 5. 
  • Fixed (fingers crossed) the unobtainable Pat Maine radio shows. Good radio lives forever. 
  • Fixed a Return 1 manuscript page that was unavailable in the Mind Place. 
  • Fixed a key item in Return 3 that could be picked up too early and could lead into a soft lock. 
  • Fixed some objectives (“Investigate the previously flooded area”) not clearing up properly. 
  • Scratch will no longer get stuck behind the microphone stand in Return 08.  
  • Fixed some localization issues across several languages. 
  • Minor fixes and stability improvements 

In other Alan Wake 2 news, the game seems to be on track to be profitable for Remedy, as Control 2 should enter full production in 2025.

  • Fixed a bug with the in-game Store where items are not removed from inventory after uninstalling all DLCs from the Need for Speed™ Unbound – Ultimate Collection Upgrade from PS5.
  • Fixed a bug with the in-game Store where Palace Upgrade and Keys to the Map tiles are missing from on PS5 for users who don’t own it, but it is still visible for users who already own it or have it installed.

CRASH FIXES (OR ELSE MAJOR TO HIGHLIGHT)

  • Fixed various crashes.

Criterion adds that they are already working on the next patch for the racing game, and this aims to improve the clarify of Lockdown when it comes to Contracts and Contracts tracking. No word yet on when we can expect this patch to be available, but chances are it’ll be out before 2024 is done.

Final Fantasy 14 Update 10.85 Released for Patch 7.11 This November 26

Patch 7.11 has been released for Final Fantasy 14 today and this includes a new side story quest. On consoles this is patch 10.85 (PS5 version 1.000.286) and this update also has PvP adjustments and resolves known issues. Check out the patch notes down below.

After completing AAC Light-heavyweight M4 (Savage), speak with the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal (X:11.1 Y:14.6) as a level 100 Disciple of War or Magic.

Entering Futures Rewritten (Ultimate)

Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) can only be accessed via the Raid Finder after forming a party of eight players who have all completed AAC Light-heavyweight M4 (Savage).

Completion Reward

Upon completing Futures Rewritten (Ultimate), players can earn a separate reward once per week. Players who have yet to receive that week’s reward can still claim it even if other members of the party have completed the duty prior to the weekly reset.

The reward can be exchanged with Uah’shepya in Solution Nine (X:8.7 Y:13.5) for ultimate Edenmorn weapons.
* Reward eligibility is reset every Tuesday at 12:00 a.m. (PST)

If multiple party members with the same job are present during an Ultimate raid, the limit gauge will no longer fill as battle progresses.

* Curing an ally on the brink of death or preventing an enemy from using its special attack will cause the gauge to rise as per normal.

    • An issue with the Duty Finder when undertaking the alliance raid dungeon Jeuno: The First Walk wherein gear wasn’t included in the rewards already received count.
    • An issue with the trial the Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden wherein, under certain conditions, players would become incapacitated when the effect Gravitational Anomaly expired.
    • An issue when playing as summoner or scholar wherein, under certain conditions, executing pet actions would reset the recast time of the pet action executed.
    • An issue with the ninja PvP action Hyosho Ranryu wherein the timing at which damage was inflicted was incorrect.
    • An issue when playing as astrologian wherein the PvP action Macrocosmos would erroneously change to Microcosmos when the player was granted Macrocosmos by a party member.

    • An issue with private chambers in free company estates wherein maximum storeroom capacity was displayed incorrectly.

    • An issue in Eastern Thanalan wherein players were unable to fish, and certain water related effects and animations did not display correctly.
    • An issue wherein status effects were not displayed in the Spearfishing window.
    • An issue with the Hunt wherein players were unable to exchange more than 100 of any given currency at once.
    • An issue with the Mogpendium wherein rewards for weekly objectives, minimog challenges, and ultimog challenges were unobtainable.
      * Weekly objective, minimog challenge, and ultimog challenge rewards will be obtainable until the release of Patch 7.15.
    • An issue when playing without joining a party wherein the text command placeholder “<1>” could not be used.
    • An issue when using a DUALSHOCK®4 controller wherein the wireless connection became unstable under certain conditions.

Tower of Fantasy Update 1.000.081 Released for New Content This Nov. 26

Hotta Studio has released Tower of Fantasy update 1.000.081 (PS4 version 1.83) today and this includes a new Simulacrum. This means you can experience new levels, new items and a whole lot more! A new event called Witch Party is about to start soon too. Read on for the full and official patch notes down below.

Dear Authorizers,

Thank you for supporting Tower of Fantasy! We will be carrying out a resource update and server maintenance to bring you a better gaming experience. V4.4.5 Decoder of Time will be available following the update.
You will not be able to enter the game during the maintenance period. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The update plan and compensation are as follows:

November 26, 04:00–09:00 (UTC+0) (Server opening time may be delayed or brought forward based on maintenance situation.)
※Note: After this update, the weekly activity and weekly gameplay will not be reset.

◤ Update Method ◢
● Resource Update: After the server is shut down, you can update the game in advance to play the new version as soon as the server opens. It is recommended to update the game when your device is connected to WiFi. Below are the ways to update the game.
◆ PC:
1. After the server is shut down, please manually exit the client and restart it. Then update the login system.
2. Please tap Update on the login system. After the update resources start downloading, you can minimize the window. The update will continue in the background until it is completed.
Note: The login system of the PC version has been upgraded. If a login error occurs after the version update, please restart the login system, log out of your account, and log back in. If the issue persists, please contact Customer Service.
◆ Android & iOS:
1. The game package needs to be changed in this version. After the server is shut down, please download the new app version in the application store of your device.
2. After launching the game and starting the download of the update resources, you can let the game run in the background. The update will continue in the background until it is completed.
● Server Shutdown: You are recommended to log out 15 minutes before the update. Please do not make any purchases in the 5 minutes before the server shutdown to avoid any disruption to your gaming experience and potential loss of account assets.

2K Games Can Now Launch on Steam and Epic Without the 2K Launcher

2K Games has taken steps to ensure that PC gamers no longer need to use their launcher whenever playing on either Steam or Epic Games, as the publisher has fully removed the 2K launcher requirement from both digital storefronts, which should be good news for gamers.

With 2K announcing the sunset of the 2K launcher in October of this year, it seems that the day has finally come when the launcher will no longer be needed to launch a 2K published game on either Steam or Epic Games. As part of an update on the “Complete Sunset” post, 2K has confirmed that the launcher has been completely removed from both platforms.

Steam and Epic Games Free of 2K Launcher

“As of November 18, 2024, the 2K Launcher has been removed from every game that used it on Epic and Steam. Additionally, we also removed the “2K Launcher Beta”, a completely separate launcher, from Sid Meier’s Civilization V. On November 25, a follow-up update was sent out via Steam to make sure the 2K Launcher was fully removed. You may notice the 2KLauncher folder was replaced with a text file called 2kLauncherRemoved.txt. This file isn’t needed, and you can safely delete it!”

While some out of the loop may see this as nothing major, many in the PC community are rejoicing at the news, as it means unwanted bloat is no longer needed on a platform that should work without it. That, and the several, and well-documented issues, such as with performance, that the 2K launcher had on many titles now being “fixed” with the removal.

Steam Deck users can also experience several 2K published titles now without the hassle of logging in and setting up the launcher on the device. This removal also allows several of their titles to now be modded on the Steam Deck.

Fantastic news for the community, and let us hope that this leads to more launcher requirements. I know with the 2K launcher now gone, many are now wondering if Take-Two will continue down this path and remove the Rockstar launcher requirement. One can dream right?

Marvel Rivals Cheaters Were Banned in Less Than 7 Games on Average, Hydra Charteris Base Map Revealed

In the closed beta for Marvel Rivals, the devs at NetEase announced how they banned a ton of cheaters in a short amount of time, and even named the accounts that were associated with illicit behavior. As it turns out, the developers only need seven games on average to weed out cheaters and ban them.

This was revealed by NetEase as part of the Marvel Rivals Developer Vision Volume 2 episode that was aired on Twitter/X. In the episode, Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong talks about game experience optimization, anti-cheat, and even new content such as maps.

  • Players are encouraged to report cheaters

Speaking of new maps, the Hydra Charteris Base level was revealed today with an overview!

The Timestream Entanglement has scrambled the timelines at the poles, resulting in a volcano with vast amounts of Chronovium at the Antarctica Charteris Base. There, Hydra seeks to force open a space-time rift to summon the Hive and its hordes, which it plans to unleash on the world. Informed of the plan by Hawkeye and the Winter Soldier, Super Heroes gather to stop this extradimensional evil, one way or another.

Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven, where a Domination mode takes players into the volcanic heart of Antarctica, challenging you to shut down Hydra’s interdimensional power.

When it comes to cheaters, NetEase has confirmed that they have already designed a system to combat XIM users, which is fantastic to hear happen before launch.

Marvel Rivals is set to be released this December 6 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and based on what we played of the closed beta, this is the next big game, and I suspect once the gaming public gets their hands on this, it will skyrocket in popularity.

Report: PlayStation Event Could Be Coming Soon, Alongside Launch of Black DualSense Edge and Pulse Accessories

We’re approaching the holiday season, and December, in particular, promises to be packed with exciting events. Among them is the highly anticipated event, The Game Awards. Additionally, there’s speculation about a potential surprise event from Sony and its gaming subsidiary, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), though this remains unconfirmed for now.

In fact, Sony seems to have teased a possible event in December through its latest “Play Has No Limits” campaign. A date, “03 12 20:24,” was subtly displayed on a sign at a train station in the ad. This date, corresponding to December 3, 2024, is significant as it marks the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. Whether this will translate into a major announcement remains to be seen.

Adding to the excitement, well known insider Billbil-kun has revealed that Sony is preparing to launch a new color variant for its PS5 accessories. This redesign will introduce a sleek black option for a selection of existing accessories, including the DualSense Edge controller, Pulse Elite headset, and Pulse Explore earbuds. Until now, these accessories were only available in white (excluding the special 30th Anniversary Edition of the DualSense Edge).

While the exact announcement and release dates for these accessories are yet to be confirmed, the insider has suggested the launch will occur within the next month.

Here are the prices for each accessory:

  • DualSense Edge Wireless Controller – Black : €239.99 / GBP209.99 / USD199.99.

In other PlayStation news, Bloomberg has reported that Sony is developing a PS5 portable device. However, the release is still several years away. The PS5 portable device seems to compete with Nintendo’s offerings and counter Microsoft’s plans for portable gaming.

Hitman Studio IO Interactive to Cease Collaboration With Conor McGregor After Rape Case Ruling

IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, has ended its collaboration with MMA fighter Conor McGregor. This decision follows last week’s Irish High Court ruling, which found McGregor guilty of assaulting and raping a woman in December 2018.

The decision to cut ties follows IO Interactive’s recent collaboration with McGregor, who had been introduced as a character in the Hitman series called “The Disruptor.” He was announced as one of the game’s new Elusive Targets. However, all DLC and content linked to McGregor will now be discontinued, with previously released material set to be canceled.

IO Interactive issued a statement this afternoon through its social media channels. On X/Twitter, the company wrote: “In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today.”

However, IO Interactive has not yet clarified the status of The Disruptor DLC for players who have already purchased it. It remains uncertain whether existing content will remain accessible. Usually, purchased content is typically retained by users, but we await official confirmation. For now, players can continue enjoying Hitman without the DLC.

Additionally, the court has ordered McGregor to pay at least €248,000 in damages. McGregor has stated his intention to appeal, though no appeal dates have been set. It is unclear how IO Interactive might respond if the ruling is overturned.

MultiVersus Update 1.50 Brings Hotfix Changes to Characters

Player First Games has released MultiVersus update 1.50 (PS5/XSX version 1.050), which is for Season 4 hotfix 1.4.2., and this focuses on character changes alongside tweaks to Rifts, perks and more.

  • Fixed an issue where the Star Contenders game mode for Wacky Weekend was not working properly

NBA 2K25 Update 1.06 Dribbles Out for Last-Gen Consoles

While the current-gen versions (PS5, Xbox Series and PC) of NBA 2K25 got its big 3.0 patch last week, the last-gen versions got patched today! Those still playing on PS4, Xbox One and Switch will see NBA 2K25 update 1.06 available for download, though don’t expect the same level of changes implemented in the current-gen version to be available here.

NBA 2K25 Update 1.06 Arrives a Few Days After the Current-Gen Version’s Patch

Note that while the last-gen versions did get a patch, the changelog available is for the current-gen versions, and as such, don’t expect any adjustment to be available. Some features of NBA 2K25 for current-gen aren’t available on last-gen, and aside from updating hairstyles, and other cosmetic items, most of the changes listed simply aren’t applicable to the older gen version of the game given they don’t have these features available to begin with.

GENERAL

NBA 2K25 Easy Anti-Cheat Update for PC

Patch Update 3.0 for PC, releasing on Steam shortly before Season 3 begins on November 29, will introduce Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). EAC is an industry-leading service designed to combat cheating tools and other unauthorized third-party software with an evolving approach that can counter new cheating techniques.

This implementation is part of the ongoing efforts by Visual Concepts and our Game Security team to detect and minimize cheating in NBA 2K. It works alongside existing measures, such as behavior-based bans, anti-tampering protections, and the in-game reporting system, to protect the integrity of competitive gameplay.

To help ensure a smooth transition, we recommend completing the following steps before installing Update 3.0, which will also install EAC if it’s not already present on your system:

1) Update your PC to the latest version of Windows to maintain compatibility.

2) Make sure your graphics card and other essential drivers are up to date.

3) Update hardware control software (e.g. RGB lighting) to its latest version to resolve potential security vulnerabilities, or disable it if a compatible version is not available.

After installation, you may see a message whenever you start NBA 2K25 letting you know EAC is initializing.

Stalker 2 Upcoming Update Fixes Outlined by GSC Game World

While Stalker 2 might be a solid game, it’s hard to argue the fact that there’s more than a handful of issues affecting the game now. Thankfully, GSC Game World is aware of these, and are preparing to release a patch on both the Xbox and PC version soon. If you’re wondering what changes and fixes are in this upcoming update, look no further down below.

Stalker 2’s Upcoming Patch Fixes Crashing Issues, Brings Gameplay Adjustments and More

Here’s what players can expect per GSC Game World:

Crash Fixes, including:

  • Issues and memory allocation failures, which previously caused the game to exit unexpectedly, particularly around rendering, skeletal meshes, and quest-related cutscenes.

Main Quest Progression Fixes, including:

  • Several bugs blocking the main quest progression, NPCs getting stuck in objects, incorrect quest markers, and issues with quest cutscenes.
  • Revision of the main quests (like Visions of Truth or A Minor Incident) to ensure smooth transitions, avoiding rare cases of players not being able to proceed further.

Balance Adjustments, including:

  • Fixing the price of the weapons with upgrades installed compared to their value without attachments.
  • NPCs behavior, including the way they act when lacking a shelter during the Emissions.

Cutscenes & Visual Fixes, including:

  • Rarely missing facial animations, misplaced NPCs, and visual inconsistencies like detached heads and clothes clipping.
  • Quality and stability improvements of the visual effects.

Softlock Fixes, including:

  • Issue where players were unable to close the trade screen after putting ammo in a wrong slot while playing on a gamepad.

User Interface Improvements, including:

  • Quest notifications now showed correctly during dialogues.
  • Corrected texts and missing interaction prompts.

In addition to the fixes above, GSC Game World notes that they are aiming to roll out more fixes focusing on analog stick dead zone bug fixes, and A-Life system bug fixes as well.

It’s unclear if the items mentioned above are the complete patch notes but if we get a different or more detailed changelog, we’ll let our readers know. If you haven’t played the game yet, our review states that even if the bugs get in the way, “you’ll find Stalker 2 to be quite an experience. That’s, of course, if you can even make it into the Zone alive.”

Metaphor: ReFantazio Review – Political Fantasy

Atlus is known as one of the most prolific and critically acclaimed developers over the last many years, with a large number of their more recent games being RPGs of some sort. More specifically, the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series have been a major part of their success, but their latest game is a completely original game, albeit with some familiar elements, known as Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Does it deliver the same quality of quirkiness and gameplay? To say yes would be an understatement, as Metaphor: ReFantazio manages to be a great game that surpasses the franchises it’s being compared to.

Take the Throne

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia and begins with the king’s assassination. For years, the kingdom has thought the prince was already dead as well, but in actuality, he was cursed and has been in hiding ever since. With the king killed in secret, his actual killer named Louis Guiabern tries to take the throne by force. However, this brings forth the spirit of the king who protects the throne through magic and requires the new king to be named through a tournament where making allies and gaining followers is the most important element.

The unnamed main protagonist is a close friend of the thought-dead prince and is sent on a mission alongside his fairy companion Gallica to try to find a way to break the curse afflicting the prince. Very quickly, the protagonist runs into a noble named Strohl, followed by other party members, such as Grius and Hulkenberg to just name a few early ones to avoid any major spoilers.

There is something very special about the protagonist in the game, as he is able to unlock what are known as Archetypes in the game that are much more powerful forms that you can use in combat. This happens very naturally in the story the first time and then is handled incredibly well with subsequent characters that gain this ability through the connection drawn between the protagonist and the respective party members.

There are plenty of captivating RPG narratives out there, but Metaphor: ReFantazio manages to stand amongst the best in the genre. Introducing the different tribes into the mix, such as the protagonist’s elda tribe heritage that is often discriminated against across Euchronia. Loyalty plays a large role in the game as well, which I really thought tied into not just the different characters in your party, but also gaining trust with the masses when trying to build towards taking the throne in competition with others. I was also immediately intrigued by how the main monsters in the games were known as “Humans” and how that would continue to play into things as the game moved on considering the majority of the world’s character look like what we would define as human, rather than these monstrous creatures that the game calls human.  The story is easily one of the best I’ve played in recent years and is well worth experiencing mostly blind besides what I’ve mentioned when playing for the first time.

Night & Day

Anyone that has played a Persona game before will recognize a similar system in Metaphor: ReFantazio with its time-based system. There are segments of the game where you have limited time to complete a task, with you receiving a game over if you do not complete it by the final day. These days are split into two parts, day and night. Daytime is the only time you can explore the dungeons found throughout the game and must rest that night. If you do not take on a dungeon during the day, you can use the night to explore the town further. Having a restrictive time-based system can be a turn-off for some players, while it can also add layers of strategy into the game than would not be there otherwise as a result.

As just mentioned, Metaphor: ReFantazio has plenty of dungeons for you to crawl through in familiar fashion. Within these dungeons, the goal is to make it to the end, but there are plenty of enemies that want to prevent you from being able to do so. When you come across an enemy in a dungeon, you have a few options at your disposal. Depending on the level of the enemies, you can either defeat them in the overworld itself or take it to a turn-based battle system if they are too strong to handle the easy way. For the first option, you can just press X rapidly in the overworld to attack the enemy and take them out without much trouble, which helps to prevent combat from becoming a slog like some RPGs can suffer from with constant turn-based battles. The good news is that there is an easy way to tell just who you can attack the easy way or if you will have to go the other route.

By using Gallica’s Fae Sight ability by pressing the left trigger, you can see what Gallica senses in the environment, including any surrounding enemies. Each enemy will register in different colors when using Fae Sight to give you a heads-up. Lower-level enemies will glow blue, similar-level enemies to you will glow yellow, and higher-level enemies will glow red. Unknown enemies that you haven’t come across before will appear white though, so you have to be extra careful with them. For enemies that are not defeated so easily, you can either attack them to start a normal battle or start with a Squad Battle instead by pressing the corresponding button.

This enters the main combat sequences, which are turn-based between your party members and the enemies you are facing. Depending on the speed of your characters and the enemies, there may be different numbers of attacks per turn, which can get really dicey when the enemy starts attacking two or even three times in one go. Like many games such as this though, you can get an advantage on the opposition by ambushing them in the overworld rather than letting them touch you first and making your party vulnerable to start.

The combat system in Metaphor: ReFantazio is centered around the previously mentioned Archetypes, which serve as the game’s class system essentially. The game’s variation of a skill tree is known as the Archetype Tree, which is done through Akademeia after you visit there in the game. A character named More is introduced in Akademeia, as he is trapped there and is essentially in purgatory. Archetypes in this game are a version of classes like you’d see in many traditional RPGs, such as Warrior, Mage, and Thief. There are 14 total of these base Archetypes, but they can then branch out further to more advanced versions of each Archetype, such as Samurai, Warlock, and Assassin. The 14 Archetypes have differing numbers of advanced options, so you may want to look into this online before diving too much into any of them in the game. Each party member in the game can study the Archetypes that you get throughout the story by expending MAG that you earn in battle. Once a character has learned an Archetype, you can change their current one without having to spend anymore MAG thankfully.

Every character has their basic attack they can use to varying degrees or damage depending on what their archetype is and the equipment they have. More important are the skills that you have available depending on your currently equipped Archetype, such as Seeker giving you wind-based spells or Mage giving you a mix of fire, ice, and electric-based spells. Very importantly, you can also set a skill or two that you’ve unlocked under a different Archetype with that character through Skill Inheritance by spending MAG for the first time you do so. This allows you to say give your Mage healing skills that they would not otherwise have access to. The versatility here with being able to switch Archetypes and mix and match skills is stellar and makes the combat system feel so robust and exciting to play around with.

A little further into the game, you will unlock what are known as Synthesis skills, which are cooperative moves depending on your party’s Archetypes. Paired Archetypes can work together by selecting these Synthesis skills in battle, but at the expense of using up both character’s turns. These sort of reminded me of the Synergy attacks in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, though the timing with using them was sometimes a little more confusing.

Party members can also be afflicted with various status effects in battle, including things like Burn and even Anxiety. The latter comes when you are ambushed into battle or get a critical hit from an enemy during battle. When afflicted by anxiety, you cannot control Archetype skills and enemy attacks don’t even count on the turn gauge, which can get really dangerous quickly if you’re not careful.

The combat system in Metaphor: ReFantazio has a lot of elements to it that you must learn to fully master it. Something that really helps with getting to learn this though is a feature that is pretty rare for RPGs, which is the ability to restart any battle if you feel like it is not going the way it should be. By pressing L3 at anytime during combat, you can restart the encounter entirely. This allows you to try different strategies if you are failing to defeat an enemy, which is a great and very unique feature to include.

Test Your Might!

The dungeons in the game vary in size, though they are rarely massive to where you would get lost. Thankfully, you will start to build a map of the dungeon’s layout as you explore, so it’s wise to try and check every nook and cranny. However, that can sometimes be a little more difficult as you start to fun out of HP, MP, and supplies. You also don’t want to die too suddenly and lose a lot of progress, but that is where the magla hollows come into play.

Making your way through a dungeon can really test your might, but thankfully there are areas known as magla hollows that serve as safe havens for your party. Visiting magla hallows will allow you to save your game, talk to allies, and go to Akademeia to speak with Mor. As you unlock more magla hallows within dungeons, you can even transport between them within that one dungeon if need be. However, the one thing it will not do is allow your party to actually rest and heal without using up items that you have. This may seem like unfortunate game design, but it’s really a design choice to make things more difficult here. It may be frustrating for those hoping to save their inventory of items for other times, but at least it allows you to do the other things along the way, most important with saving.

Outside of the dungeons, you will be taking on a variety of quests in the points of the calendar where you are given free reign to make your own decisions on how you want to do things. When traversing the cities, you can utilize a technique known as blade-riding. This allows you to hop on your sword and ride around the city, even being able to increase the speed. This allows you to traverse the cities at a much faster pace, which is a great tool to have.

A large majority of the quests and sidequests you’ll come across in the game will tie into what is known as the Royal Virtues system that plays a major role in the game with your main character. Your character is measured by five different Royal Virtues that you must work to increase throughout the game, including Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination. By improving your ranks on these virtues, you can better help some followers in the game and even improve the relationships with them. Choosing which of these to increase if up to you with how you can repeat certain actions to improve ones with your limited time restraints.

The visuals found in Metaphor: ReFantazio are pretty solid throughout, showing off the very interesting character designs well most of the time. The environments aren’t always the most fleshed out it doesn’t feel like, but they get the job done enough when it matters. The performance was also really smooth when playing on Xbox Series X, with no issues with framerate drops that were very noticeable.

A standout feature of the game is without question the soundtrack, which has established a bit of a cult following since launch and for good reason. The very memorable battle theme is an earworm that you will keep jamming out to every time you hear it, mixed with a very enjoyable collection of other tracks throughout. One downside on the game is that it really could have used more voice acting though, especially with how good what is included already is in the game.

Verdict

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a great example of a game that was completely off of my radar until I had the opportunity to play it and fell in love with it. The deep combat system offers players a lot of customization with how they want to outfit their team and take on the often quite difficult dungeons, though the time-based restrictions may keep some people from ever giving the game a chance unfortunately. With a story that is up there with the best that the genre has to offer, Metaphor: ReFantazio is easily one of the best games of 2024 that should not be overlooked.

Stellar Blade Update 1.009.002 Fixes Photo Mode Crashes, Disappearing Nier Items and More

Developer Shift Up has issued Stellar Blade update 1.009.002 to PS5 owners this November 25, and this is to fix issues that surfaced with the introduction of Photo Mode that was released alongside the Nier Automata DLC. Chief among the fixes is this download now stops the game from crashing when using Photo Mode, main quest progression blockage connected to Photo quests and more.

Stellar Blade Update 1.009.002 Fixes Various Photo Mode Issues

Here’s what got changed per Shift Up:

  • Fixed an issue where the game would intermittently crash when using Photo Mode.
  • Fixed an issue where the film grain effect was forced to be applied when using Photo Mode in Xion.
  • Fixed an issue where Main Quest Progress was blocked intermittently when completing Photo challenge requests.
  • Fixed an issue where the Nier: Automata collaboration appearance items would disappear when changing difficulty after saving at camp while wearing them.
  • Fixed an issue where the selfie camera item could not be used after riding the elevator near Altes Levoire in the Wasteland.

While there’s no content planned for Stellar Blade in the foreseeable future, PC gamers will be getting a version of the game sometime next year. Report: Sony Developing PS5 Portable Device; Years Away From Release

It’s been over a decade since we last saw Sony release a standalone PlayStation gaming handheld, but that might be changing at some point in the future, as a new report has come to light stating that Sony is working on a PS5 portable console.

The rumor comes from reputable business site Bloomberg, which cites sources that wish not to be named. According to the report, Sony is in the early stages of developing the portable console, and is likely years from release. The idea is said to build on the PlayStation Portal that was released last year. The handheld device, which requires a PS5 and a strong internet connection, was said to be intended originally as a standalone device like Valve’s Steam Deck before pivoting to what we have now.

Nintendo has been the king of portable gaming in the past few decades, and while Sony tried fighting it with solid portable gaming devices such as the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the PlayStation Vita, these consoles weren’t enough to unseat the current king.

The report also mentions how the planned portable by Sony also aims to counter Microsoft’s planned portable, which Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed was in development and is “years away” from being released.

If Sony is indeed planning to release a new PlayStation portable device, it will once again face an uphill climb given Nintendo’s successor to the Switch will most likely once again feature portability even if it’s a home console, and with smartphones now getting more adept at playing full-fledged titles. That said, the market seems to be more accepting of portable gaming nowadays compared to years past, and with the cost for processors, screens, and more importantly, storage, now being more affordable than ever, the planned PS5 portable could avoid the pitfalls that befell its earlier counterparts.

While the PSP sold well when it was released back in 2005, its follow up, the PS Vita, failed to do as well, with most pundits pointing to its expensive proprietary storage cards as one of the main culprits for its failure.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.000.011 Deployed for Patch 2.1.1 During Server Downtime

Crytek has a fresh update pie served to Hunt Showdown 1896 players this Monday, and it was released during server downtime. Those on consoles will see this as Hunt Showdown update 1.000.011, and this ends the Harvest of Ghosts event, and adds the new weapons and their variants to regular progression.

UI

  • Fixed one of two issues that would cause players on PC to have a cursor present in-game.
    • The one that is fixed is related to getting the cursor stuck in menus.
    • The one that will be fixed in a future update is related to alt-tabbing.
  • Players shared concerns about unclear Bundle content. We’ve improved store communication to prevent accidental purchases, with more improvements coming in future updates

  • All prices except the Bundle pop-up now show the correct full amount of the individual purchase for an item that is also available in a Bundle. The discount players get when purchasing it through a Bundle is still highlighted with a Bundle discount badge.
  • Double-clicking has been disabled on the Bundle Store page.
  • A purchase confirmation pop-up has been added to make clear to the player how much they are spending.
  • To avoid players accidentally buying the wrong Skin, an issue was fixed where Skins could swap locations and show the incorrect preview.
  • Discounts will now be correctly shown in the “Buy” shortcut button.
  • To prevent players from accidentally triggering hotkeys while using the search functionality, a hacky fix was made. A proper rework to prevent this from happening will be in the next release.
  • Fixed an issue where clicking on filters could activate the search bar and make shortcuts disappear.
  • Fixed an issue where console players could not activate filters on the Store page.
  • The “Read More” button on news articles should work as expected again and redirect players correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck in the Gear screen when activating a filter after equipping a Tool.
  • Fixed a low repro crash in the lobby which could occur during ready-up or matchmaking.
  • There were a number of issues present in the DLC Store. To address these, the following changes were made:
    • Fixed an issue where the Hunter banner would not properly represent the selected Hunter in the DLC Store.
    • DLC items are now correctly linked and open the correct Steam shop page.
    • Fixed an issue where DLC items were incorrectly showing a plus icon on their card in the store.
  • Fixed an issue where the burning animation on the map could be missing when banishing.
  • Fixed the sorting order on Traits to be Favorites (if there are any) -> normal Traits -> Event Traits -> Scarce/Burn Traits.

  • Fixed an issue where, if the player visits the Hunter Store and then the DLC Store, the banner image for the Hunter may not match the selected Hunter
  • Fixed a bug where if the game client received no response from a matchmaking request (e.g. during infrastructure changes), it would mistakenly stay in matchmaking mode, preventing new requests.
