Nintendo Switch Update 17.0.0 Released for October 10

Nintendo has begun rolling out the Nintendo Switch update 17.0.0 for October 10, which doesn’t bring in new features. Read what’s new in the Nintendo Switch new system update patch notes.

Nintendo Switch Update 17.0.0 Patch Notes | Switch System October 10 Patch Notes:

  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

Performing the system update:

In most situations, the Nintendo Switch will automatically download the most recent system update while it is connected online. You can verify your current menu version and manually start the update from the System Settings menu if necessary.

System Update highlighted within the system option in the System Settings

Despite being what many consider a revision number for features, this update brings nothing new but stability. Chances are they’re to patch up some exploits and hacks, though given the nature of things, it probably won’t do much to prevent them.

Should there be anything the community spots hidden away in this update, we’ll let you know.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Second Beta Week Test Promises Better Visibility, Slide Times, and More

The first Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 beta weekend has officially concluded, but fret not, as the next round of testing starts later this week! But in the meantime, for those who might have noticed some visibility issues and were annoyed by slide delays,  the good news is that Sledgehammer Games is listening and plans on addressing them in the second Modern Ware 3 beta weekend.

In an X posting, Sledgehammer Games thanked the community for participating in the first beta weekend for Modern Warfare 3, revealing that the second test would include a new map and a new mode. But most importantly, they would also be changing a few things that most players took issue with: operator visibility and slide delays.

This is fantastic news, and we cannot wait to see how the studio addresses these this Thursday when the second beta weekend arrives. Hopefully, they’re for the better, as I know I had issues with the visibility myself.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 second beta weekend begins this Thursday, October 12, and will run through October 14.

Report: Disney’s CEO Deputies Wanted Company to Turn Into a Gaming Giant, Through Possibly Aquiring EA

A new report claims that the current CEO, Bob Iger, was getting a bit of pressure from his deputies to take the company in a new direction, going from licensing titles to creating them to become a new giant player in the gaming industry.

As reported by Bloomberg, Disney’s CEO deputies tried to convince Bob Iger to expand its gaming division to what appears to be self-developing, though not without the means of acquiring publishers and studios. The report notes that while Iger was noncommital (as he was to everything else in the company), Bloomberg suggests that an attempt to acquire EA would have been part of that push if it all went through.

“Iger’s deputies are pushing him to consider a bolder transformation of Disney from gaming licensee to gaming giant through, say, an acquisition of Electronic Arts. But, as with everything else, he’s been noncommittal.”

To be clear, these aren’t current plans, but what some at Disney seem to have expressed interest in. Whether or not that is something that eventually changes down the road remains to be seen.

Currently, Disney has licensed out several of its properties to gaming companies. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine are examples of two upcoming games from PlayStation that have been licensed from Disney. However, sticking with EA, the relationship between them and Disney does fit into why execs may have wanted to push for an acquisition. EA has already published several Star Wars games, with a third Jedi game planned. They’re also in the process of making an Iron Man and Black Panther game, so to say the least, their relationship with Disney does seem to be a very close one.

How do you guys feel about this becoming a possibility? Will it be good that Disney can self-produce their games based on IPs they own, or will it become bloated and oversaturated like their current line-up of Marvel projects that many have said were?

Overwatch 2 Update 3.63 for October 10 Brings Season 7 and Halloween Terror

Blizzard has released Overwatch 2 update 3.63 (PS5 version 1.000.026), kicking off the start of Season 7 and the Halloween event. Read on for the official Overwatch 2 patch notes for October 10.

Overwatch 2 Update 3.63 Patch Notes | Overwatch 2 Update 1.000.026 Patch Notes | OW2 New Update Patch Notes for October 10:

HALLOWEEN TERROR 2023

Get ready for the spookiest event of the year as Overwatch 2 transforms into a haunted battleground. Halloween Terror is back with your favorite game modes—Junkenstein’s Revenge, Wrath of the Bride, and Trials of Sanctuary, a new Blizzard crossover game mode. Team up with the heroes of Sanctuary, power up their abilities, and defeat powerful bosses, including Butcher Roadhog, Azmodan Wrecking Ball, and Lilith Moira.

NEW MAP – SAMOA

Samoa is a new Control map where you’ll fight on a tropical beach, a gleaming city, and inside a volcano! Watch out for deadly pitfalls, or you might just be swimming in lava! Samoa will be available to play right away in a dedicated Arcade card and will appear in Quick Play and other unranked modes starting on October 10 with it appearing in Competitive Play later in the season.

HERO REWORK – SOMBRA

We approached the Sombra Rework by identifying key goals to guide decisions throughout the design iteration process: make Sombra more committal when engaging, increase the active feel in her ability kit, and uphold the current Hacker fantasy. With these goals, there were multiple angles to tackle around her existing kit. Naturally, many ideas were also meant to address frustrations playing against the character, ensuring there is proper counterplay for enemies.

Sombra

Machine Pistol

  • Damage increased from 7.5 to 8.
  • Minimum Spread reduced from 0.5 to 0.
  • Number of shots until max spread has been increased from 3 to 6 shots.
  • Reload time reduced from 1.4 seconds to 1.2 seconds.

Hack

  • Cast time reduced from 0.75 seconds to 0.65 seconds.
  • Now cancels Stealth when hacking an enemy hero.
  • Cooldown increased from 4 to 6 seconds.
  • Hack has a reduced cooldown of 3 seconds if Hack is interrupted or if a non-hero enemy is hacked.
  • The “Hacked” warning text will now only appear while you are silenced and not for the remainder duration of the hack debuff.

Opportunist

  • Removed.

Stealth

  • Ability reworked to be a passive. Sombra automatically becomes invisible after 3.5 seconds while not shooting, using a damaging ability, or receiving damage.
  • Stealth movement speed bonus reduced from 60% to 45%.
  • Fade Out duration into Stealth reduced from 0.375 seconds to 0.25 seconds.
  • Fade In duration from Stealth reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0.375 seconds.
  • Updated the UI messaging to the Sombra player when hacking Health Packs to “Revealed” instead of “Detected”. Now the message “Detected” is only used when an enemy player is in the detection radius.

Virus

  • This is a new ability assigned to Ability 1 by default.
  • Fire a projectile that damages an enemy over time. Damage is dealt faster on Hacked enemies.
  • Impact Damage: 10 (20 on hacked target).
  • Damage over time: 100 over 4 seconds (100 over 2 seconds on hacked target).

Translocator

  • Can no longer can be manually activated. Translocator will now automatically teleport Sombra after 0.25 seconds from being thrown or when impacting the environment.
  • Reduces the Stealth passive cooldown after teleporting.
  • Projectile speed increased from 25 to 72.
  • Cooldown reduced from 6 seconds to 5 seconds. Cooldown now begins after Sombra teleports to the location of the Transponder.
  • Projectile launch initial vertical offset removed.

EMP

  • Ultimate charge cost increased by 15%.
  • Health percent damage decreased from 40% to 30%.

GENERAL UPDATES

GROUP RESPAWN

  • Heroes who die within 5 seconds of each other will respawn together, resulting in some players having either a slightly longer or shorter queue than the standard 10 seconds.
  • Heroes who die more than 5 seconds from another player eliminated will still respawn in 10 seconds on their own.
  • These changes do not apply to Competitive Play mode.

Developer Comments: We think that team fights are some of the most enjoyable moments in our game, but we’ve all been in matches where team cohesion–or lack thereof–makes these moments a rarity. These matches often turn into stomps for the team that can’t group up, and preventing stomps is a high priority for us. As such, this season, we’re modifying how heroes respawn for Quick Play. Heroes that die within 5 seconds of each other will be respawned in a wave together. This means that respawn times will sometimes change in order for heroes to respawn together. If a hero dies further apart than 5 seconds from another death on their team, they’ll still respawn in 10 seconds as they would have in the past.

We’ll be listening closely to feedback on this new system, and depending on the response and making any changes, we will consider adding these adjustments to Competitive Play in a later season.

UNRANKED LEAVER PENALTIES

  • 75% XP penalty removed.
  • The penalty thresholds have not changed, but the mechanics have also never been completely explained. The last 20 games played a player participated in are recorded. Leaving four of these 20 games activates the first penalty threshold. Leaving six of these 20 games activates the second penalty threshold.
  • Queuing for most game modes is now suspended when a player leaves a match inside a penalty threshold.
  • Players that reach the first penalty threshold will be suspended for 10 minutes.
  • Players that reach the second penalty threshold will be suspended for 30 minutes.
  • The queue suspension will reapply each time a player leaves a game when they are above the first penalty threshold but not when they complete their games.
  • Consecutive Match XP bonus has been renamed to Endurance Bonus.
  • Endurance Bonus is XP granted when finishing matches without leaving the previous match.

Developer Comments: Previously, if players left too many games, we would apply a 75% penalty to their Battle Pass XP that is gained. We found this had very little impact on those who leave deliberately and severely impacted those who don’t have much time to play but want to earn the rewards in our season Battle Pass. We’re changing this to make it more difficult for players who leave games to be disruptive while not applying too much impact to those who don’t intend on ruining the experience for others.

STORY MISSIONS

  • You can now spectate any Story Mission that your friends are playing if you own the campaign pack for that mission.

HERO MASTERY

Scoring Update

  • Bonus score granted from time remaining in the gold bonus tier is now accurate to one-hundredth of a second. (Previously completed games in the Top 500 leaderboards are not adjusted.)
  • The user interface has been updated to display this new time accuracy everywhere that we display time and score.

Replays

  • Hero Mastery now supports replays.
  • Replays are saved for any completed course that results in a new scoring record.
  • The user interface for Hero Mastery replays has been customized to display score, time, and other information.

PLAYER PROGRESSION

  • Lowered show priority for Time Played and Wins sub-badges in the Showcase.
  • Added Virus Kills to Sombra’s sub-badge set.

Developer comments: All heroes share the Time Played and Wins sub-badges. This change is intended to highlight each hero’s unique sub-badges to better reflect individual playstyle.

CHALLENGES

  • Reduced the number of wins required to unlock Sojourn, Junker Queen and Kiriko through Hero challenges.
  • Illari is now unlockable through Hero challenges.

HERO UPDATES

TANK

Orisa

Fortify

  • Damage reduction decreased from 50% to 45%.

Developer Comments: We are further readjusting Orisa’s survivability, which was originally increased due to the armor-damage reduction stacking change we made several patches ago. This particular change is relatively light as we still want her to be an effective pick against teams that lean on crowd control.

Ramattra

Nemesis Form

  • Cooldown decreased from 8 to 7 seconds.

Developer Comments: This change lets Ramattra project his influence more frequently with Nemesis Form, which translates into increased survivability and damage. The flexibility also makes it less punishing if he swaps back to Omnic Form early to use the Void Barrier.

Wrecking Ball

Quad Cannons

  • Number of shots to reach max spread increased from 20 to 30.

Developer Comments: This change lets Wrecking Ball finish off enemies a bit more reliably when he’s outside of point-blank range and makes him less reliant on his Piledriver combos.

Zarya

Projected Barrier

  • Size decreased 15% now matching back to the size of Particle Barrier.
  • Health decreased from 225 to 200 matching back to the health of Particle Barrier.

Developer Comments: Zarya is using the barrier on her allies more often to peel or initiate combination plays, which makes the ability more team-oriented and less self-serving. This change preserves that interesting choice by keeping the cooldown reduced when used on an ally while targeting her energy sustain instead, which has increased significantly with the bonuses to the barrier health and size.

DAMAGE

Cassidy

Combat Roll

  • Damage reduction increased from 50% to 75%.

Developer Comments: Most damage mitigation from Combat Roll feels incidental, as the ability is used more for mobility or reloading. This adjustment allows Cassidy to be more intentional with his rolls to avoid large amounts of damage with correct timing.

Mei

Deep Chill

  • Removed.

Endothermic Blaster

  • Damage per second increased from 70 to 100.
  • Now immediately slows enemies by 40% instead of building up over time.

Developer Comment: We liked the one-two combo that Deep Chill provided, as it added an interesting layer for hero mastery. However, in practice, it increased the amount of crowd control suffered by enemy players while also reducing Mei’s effectiveness. Rather than further increasing the slow or increasing cumulative combo damage, both of which would lead to a more frustrating experience for the opposing player, we are reverting Mei back to her balance prior to adding the Deep Chill passive.

Torbjörn

Rivet Gun

  • Primary fire recovery increased from .48 to .51 seconds.

Overload

  • Overhealth bonus decreased from 100 to 75.

Developer Comments: Torbjorn’s Rivet Gun can feel overwhelming with how quickly it shoots. This change reduces the firing cadence and makes it more manageable on the receiving end. Overload provides too much defensive value, so we are lowering the overhealth bonus.

SUPPORT

Brigitte

Whip Shot

  • Damage increased from 70 to 80.

Developer Comment: This change increases her proficiency at protecting her allies by rewarding accuracy with her most aim-focused ability.

Illari

Solar Rifle

  • Secondary fire healing per second decreased from 120 to 105.

Developer Comments: Illari’s burst healing output is still a little too high, so we are lowering the effectiveness of the Solar Rifle secondary fire to bring her more in line with other support heroes.

Battlefield 2042 Steam and EA App Issues Prevent Season 6 Download, Here’s a Workaround (Update)

Earlier today, DICE rolled out the Season 6 update for Battlefield 2042. While most of you should be playing the new map and weapons already, some players on PC have been affected. If you’re one of the people that are seeing Battlefield 2042 Steam and EA App issues that prevent you from downloading Season 6, we’re here to provide some relief!

EA has acknowledged the issue and has outlined a workaround for it. If you’re seeing the “There’s a problem wit your download” message, here’s how to fix it.

Battlefield 2042 Steam and EA App Issues for Season 6 Download:

Update: EA has announced that issues connected to this are now resolved.

This is the announcement from EA per the official Battlefield Comms Twitter account:

While we continue to assess the issue, a potential resolution is to go through the following steps:

1⃣ Visit the EA App “Hamburger” Menu Icon.
2⃣ Highlight Help
3⃣ Select “App Recovery”
4⃣ Reloading the EA App and Steam may be required.

The latest message from the devs mention that they are still investigating this and will provide an update on the situation:

As you can see, the issue hasn’t been resolved just yet even if there is a workaround for it. Chances are, we might see a PC client patch released just to fix this. Once we know more about it, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

If you manage to fix it or find another workaround, leave a comment below and let us know.

PS5 Slim Models Announced; Digital Supports Attachable Disc Drive

Leaked a few months back, PlayStation has officially announced the PS5 slim models, arriving this November for both digital and disc-drive versions.

As detailed on the PS Blog, the new models will begin to roll out this November, phasing out the current PS5 models. Outside of the slightly redesigned casing, the new model will feature both USB-C ports on the front and the USB-B port on the back. Personally, I like the new designs, and the idea of being able to add disc support to the digital model is, while an odd decision, a smart one at that. Digital owners have been locked into buying digital games, and having the option to eventually go physical, though costs more later, will save gamers money in the long run with used game sales.

The Skull Merchant begins the match with six Drones. Press the Power button to deploy a Drone, which conducts an invisible, continuous sweeping scan. If a Survivor is detected, the Drone becomes active, which makes the Drone’s scan lines visible. Once detected by a scan line, a Survivor gains scan immunity and cannot be detected by other scan lines for 3 seconds. Survivors can attempt to hack Drones. Failure activates the Drone and partially fills their Lock On meter; Success disables the Drone for 45 seconds.

  • Removed the Active Zone (cylinder).
  • Removed remote Activation of Drones.
  • The Killer now starts with 6 drones.
  • The minimum distance between drones is now 16 meters.
  • The Drone radius is now 10 meters.

Radar

Press the Ability Button to open a Radar to see the locations of Survivors detected by Drones or those with Claw Traps. Each Survivor detected on the Radar increases The Skull Merchant’s movement speed. The Radar can also recall drones or change the direction of their scan rotation.

Lock On

The Lock On meter fills when scanned by a Drone and when failing to disable a Drone. When the meter is full, the Survivor receives a Claw Trap, becomes Injured, and suffers from the Broken status effect. Additional scans briefly apply the Hindered status effect. A Claw Trap broadcasts the Survivor’s location to the Killer and is only removed when its battery dies.

  • Removed the Exposed status effect from Lock On

Add-Ons

  • Adi Valente #1: Effects last until the Claw Trap is removed.
  • High-Power Floodlight: Blindness status applied when receiving a Claw Trap. Effects last until the Claw Trap is removed.
  • Geographical Readout: Increased action speed bonus while breaking pallets and breakable walls, damaging generators, and vaulting to 20% (up from 15%). The effect is now applied for 8 seconds after deploying a drone.
  • High Current Upgrade: Increases the time Survivors appear on the radar when detected.
  • Adaptive Lighting: Reduced the bonus granted to Undetectable status to 20% (down from 50%).
  • Stereo Remote Mic: Decreases the Disabled State duration of drones.
  • Supercharge: Increased battery life of Claw Traps to 15% (up from 12%).
  • Shotgun Speakers: Survivors with a Claw Trap have no skill check warning. Effects last until the Claw Trap is removed.
  • Low-Power Mode: Decreases Drone Spawn Cooldown.
  • Vital Targeting Processor: Increases Hindered status by 3% when a Survivor is detected by a drone.
  • Brown Noise Generator: Oblivious status applied when receiving a Claw Trap. Effects last until the Claw Trap is removed.
  • Loose Screw: Exhausted status applied when receiving a Claw Trap. Effects last 6 seconds (up from 3 seconds).
  • Randomised Strobes: Increases Hindered status by 1 second when a Survivor is detected by a drone.
  • Advanced Movement Prediction: Reveals Survivor’s aura when they receive a Claw Trap.
  • Ultrasonic Speaker (formerly, “Ultrasonic Trap Speaker”): Decreases scan immunity duration.
  • Expired Batteries: Decreases Claw Trap battery life (50%, instead of 60%). Increases Haste status granted when Survivors are detected on the radar.
  • Prototype Rotor: Increases drone rotation speed.
  • Iridescent Unpublished Manuscript: When a drone is disabled, the drone gains a 32m terror radius for 15 seconds. During this time, The Skull Merchant gains the Undetectable status effect.

PatchNotesDividerSmolWhite.png

Anti Face-Camp Feature

Survivors on the hook have an internal “camp meter” which fills when the Killer is nearby. The meter fills faster the closer the Killer is, but is slower when other Survivors are near (never becomes negative).

Once the meter is full, the Survivor gets a prompt allowing them to escape the hook with 100% probability. Survivors who take this action gain Endurance for 15 seconds.

This feature shuts off entirely once the Exit Gates are powered.

As part of this system, The Cannibal can no longer hit a Survivor who has Endurance twice in the same 0.5 second timespan.

Map Updates

Shattered Square Map Update

The Shattered Square Map received a lot of comments at release. Some issues were related to the objects being low to the ground and hard to see, especially when it came to Killers that are navigating with a first person camera. We did a clean up and made sure that the loops feel smoother.

There were also inconsistencies with our visual and navigation language. Objects were placed in a way that it felt possible to simply climb, because of similar angles to stairs or slopes found in other maps. This was resolved by taking away some of the objects or placing assets that match the collisions.

The line of sight was very low and gave the ability for players to see across the map. A clear line of sight can be detrimental for both roles depending of the play style. We have changed the positioning of tiles with higher line of sight blockers to be more predominant.

The size of the Map was large and we decided to reduce the size to encourage encounters, make it more dynamic and reduce the time to find interactables (generators, hooks, totems, chest, etc.)

MacMillan Estate Realm Update

The Maps of the MacMillan Estate Realm have been in the game for about 7 years. The layouts and other information have been available within the community for a while, but The Entity reminded us to give players a chaotic experience. Therefore, we are adding new variations of the MacMillan Estate Realm maps to the existing pool.

Features

Bots Improvements

Reworked the Bots Skill Check system:

  • Success rates now correlate with Skill Check size.
  • Skill Check debuffs, such as The Doctor’s Madness or Hex: Huntress Lullaby, reduce the odds of hitting the Skill Check.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Update 1.000.010 for Oct. 10 Slices Out for Patch 7.5

Respawn has pushed out Star Wars Jedi: Survivor update 1.000.010, which is for patch version 7.5! Players can expect more fixes to be part of the update, but it doesn’t include any new content. Read up on what got fixed in the official Jedi Survivor patch notes for October 10.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Update 1.000.010 Patch Notes | Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Update 7.5 Patch Notes:

This patch introduces several fixes across all platforms, including:

  • Fixes for creature & vehicle animations
  • Fix for binocular beacons not working when ray tracing is disabled
  • Quality improvement for reflections when ray tracing is disabled

Yep, that’s about it. There’s no new content or new features announced, so don’t expect anything new from the game outside of the last-gen versions EA is currently developing.

Will we get more patches? I wouldn’t put it past Respawn, but let’s hope we get new story content and maybe new features added at some point in the future.

Path of Exile 3.23 Expansion Release Date Targeting Early December, Path of Exile 2 Showcase Next Month

Path of Exile fans anticipating the next major expansion will be glad to know that the Grinding Gear Games has finally provided a time frame for it, and when you can expect another showcase for Path of Exile 2.

Here are the details provided by the studio:

3.23 Expansion Timeline

The next Path of Exile expansion will launch early December. Initially we considered a late November release, but with the 3.23 scope being quite ambitious, we need to take a few extra weeks to finish what we have planned.

End-of-League Events

December release means the current Ancestor League will be extended by a few weeks, so in November we’re planning to run a series of three in-game events, each of them will run for about a week. We will reveal the details in a couple of weeks, so keep an eye on the news.

Path of Exile 2

As we move towards the closed beta next June, we plan to give you more updates about Path of Exile 2. Our next Path of Exile 2 showcase will be released during the 3.23 announcement livestream late November. Don’t miss out on it!

Core Supporter Packs

The next set of Core Supporter Packs will be released alongside our 3.23 announcement, which means that the current Core Supporter Packs will soon be leaving the store forever. If you’re still considering getting yours to fly around Wraeclast or want to submit a personalised unique to be forever in the Voidborn Reliquary Key then now is the time! Check them out in-game by pressing M to open the store.

It may be a little longer than some had hoped for when the next expansion is released, but at the very least, we’ll get a showcase for it next month. This showcase will not only go over all the major changes and features coming to the Path of Exile 3.23 expansion but, as noted, will also give us a fresh look at Path of Exile 2 (now a standalone title).

So there’s much to look forward to in the coming months!
