Starbreeze Studios has taken the Payday 3 servers down for maintenance today, September 26, as they work on server improvements and matchmaking stability.
Payday 3 Servers Down Schedule and Status for September 26:
Payday 3 maintenance schedule.
8AM and 11AM CEST
2PM and 5PM CST
7AM and 10AM BST
2AM and 5AM EDT
11PM and 2AM PDT
As you can see, the servers will be down for roughly three hours. Starbreeze has provided a statement as to what they’re doing during this time.
“In order to improve server and matchmaking stability, we will make upgrades to the environment ahead of this weekend. In order to perform these upgrades, the service will be offline between 8AM and 11AM CEST Tuesday and Friday.”
As noted, there will be another planned maintenance happening this Friday.
Hopefully, once the studio is done with its upgrades, the servers for Payday 3 will be far more reliable than they have been since launch. Fingers crossed, though as always, we’ll continue to update you with server statuses, should there be any extended downtime.

Whether you’re a returning player or a newcomer interested in trying out the latest Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, we’ve got you covered as we show you exactly how to start the Phantom Liberty expansion in Cyberpunk 2077.
How to Start the Phantom Liberty Expansion in Cyberpunk 2077:
There are a couple of ways to start the expansion, all of which we’ll go over.
The first option is directly from the main menu itself. If you aren’t looking to start a fresh save and just want to jump straight into Phantom Liberty, you can do so from the main menu by selecting “new game”, which will bring up the option to jump into Phantom Liberty immediately.
This will skip through the game’s intro, and first act, though you’ll still get the opportunity to create your character before continuing with this option. Once you load in, you’ll immediately get a call from an unknown caller, and thus, your journey into Dogtown can begin.
If you’re an experienced Cyberpunk 2077 player and have completed the campaign already and want to continue with your save, all you’ll need to do is load it up, and an unknown caller will contact you shortly after roaming around. If she doesn’t, you can try to skip time from the main menu, then save your game, and if that doesn’t work, reload the save you just made. Sometimes, this forces quests to pop up.
The final option is to play through the main campaign as is. This is the recommended choice from CD Projekt Red, as update 2.0 introduces several new features and overhauls, and playing through the base game will get you better familiarized with them. But you don’t have to beat the campaign to access Phantom Liberty, as it’ll be available as soon as you finish Act 1 of the game. The unknown caller will call you, and the quest line will be available for you to pick back up anytime.
That’s all there is to it! Whatever you choose, know that none lock you out of content besides the skip to Phantom Liberty, as it skips the first act. New players won’t want to skip anything, but it’s nice having this option there for returning one who wants to go straight to Phantom Liberty.
Oh, and for those who haven’t played Cyberpunk 2077 since its release, you may want to know that CDPR also added an Edgerunner quest to tie in with the anime last year. To get started, follow our quick guide, and you’ll soon be sporting some cool Edgerunner gear.

Not a fan of how the Payday 3 progression system? If so, we have some bad news for you, as even if multiple players aren’t happy with how it works now, Starbreeze has no intention of changing it…at least for the time being.
This was revealed by the studio alongside other bits of info earlier today during the Payday 3 dev Twitch stream. According to Starbreeze, they want to keep it the way it is wherein challenges are the only way to gain XP. Alongside this, the devs confirmed that a fix for aim assist and other items items are being looked into.
“We don’t have any plans today to change how the progression works, however, we are seeing requests and concerns around how the challenges are communicated to players. Something we’re evaluating right now is, how can we make that more intuitive and how can we frontload that information to players? So, a couple examples of this could be categorizing challenges more so you don’t have to look for them as you do today, and also adding recommended challenges so you get recommendations based on how you are progressing and what heists you want to jump into, and so on.” – Almir Listo, Global Brand Director, and Andreas Penninger, Lead Producer on Payday 3
List of UI/UX items currently under consideration (no timeframe):
In-Chat Lobby
Unready Button
Mutable Heist Briefs
Renaming Loadouts
Improvements to Challenges
KBM Support on Console
Quick Play
There’s also a new skill tree called “Transporter” being worked on with one skill in it giving the player the ability to carry two bags.
Note that none of these have any timetable on when they’ll be released, as Starbreeze has said that these are items they are “evaluating” for future patches.
Speaking of progression, we mentioned how that part of the game didn’t really feel right in our review. As for the game’s first post-release patch, there is one expected to drop this October 5, but it won’t be a big one based on what the devs have shared.
The launch trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has been unveiled in anticipation of its release tomorrow on September 26. The trailer provides a glimpse at the new content, giving players a sneak peek at what to expect from the DLC.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Launch Trailer
Here’s a brief overview of the expansion by CD Project Red:
“Phantom Liberty is an upcoming spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Return as cyber-enhanced mercenary V and embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the NUSA President. In the dangerous district of Dogtown, you must forge alliances within a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations. Do you have what it takes to survive?”
As the release date draws closer, the community eagerly anticipates the opportunity to once again dive into the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and experience the new adventures that it has in store. The DLC launches tomorrow, September 26, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
In our review of Phantom Liberty, we called it “one of the best gaming experiences of the year.” You can read it right here. And for all the changes that have been made with the free 2.0 update, click here.

Sony is being struck a cyber blow with a ransomware attack from the newly-originated group known as Ransomed.vc. The claims are simple: the group has infiltrated the Sony Group Corporation with a declaration of systems being compromised. It comes through in the form of a shady document, detailing the files obtained, a post date, and demands.
In short, this new attack stems from the Dark Web, retrieved by Cyber Security Connect. The mysterious document shares the purpose of Ransomed.vc before going into details about the Sony attack. With a Post Date set for “29.9.2023” (September 29, 2023), a purchase of $88,000,000,000 ($88b) must be in play. Otherwise, the hackers will commit to their backup plan, as verbatim: “we have successfully compromised all of sony systems. We wont ransom them! we will sell the data. due to sony not wanting to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE”. The message concludes with, “WE ARE SELLING IT”.
At this time, Sony has not commented on the issue. With only a few days away, who knows what will happen once the post date comes around for the end of the month? Will our PlayStation systems be compromised? Will Sony have to shut its online gaming service while it deals with Ransomed.vc? Only time will tell.
Having been established just this month of September 2023, Ransomed.vc has been circling the digital news. This is due to its notorious presence as a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) model, where affiliates are actively being connected for one reason or another. If you have a Sony account and are worried about the new cyber attack, be sure to take any necessary precautions for your data before the post date of September 29, 2023.
Payday 3’s been through the ringer the last few days. Earlier this morning, the game continued to experience the same matchmaking issues it’s been experiencing since launch last Thursday. The devs have taken to Twitch to talk to the community about Payday 3’s extensive issues and other updates, but what they had to say wasn’t very comforting.
Before hopping into the Twitch chat to answer some questions, Global Brand Director Almir Listo and Lead Producer Andreas Penninger read an official statement from the studio regarding the game’s rocky online performance:
Payday 3 matchmaking infrastructure has not performed as tested and expected. Matchmaking software encountered an unforeseen error which made it unable to handle the massive influx of players. The issue an unrecoverable situation for Starbreeze’s third-party matchmaking partner. A new version of the matchmaking software gradually deployed across all regions, leading to improved performance, however, a software update made by the partner on late Sunday again introduced instability to the matchmaking infrastructure. The partner continues to work to improve and stabilize Payday 3’s online system. The issue in question did not manifest during the technical betas or early access due to the specificity of rapid user influx and load balancing. Starbreeze are currently evaluating all options, both short and long term. In the short term, this means our focus is to ensure your player experience. In the long term, this means evaluating a new partner for matchmaking services, and making Payday 3 less dependent on online services.
Around 30 minutes later, someone in the chat asked if the studio knew when the servers would be back to normal. Listo took the question and responded as follows:
When will the servers be fixed? That’s something we do not know right now. We are working on improving the stability. As soon as we are comfortable saying they are fixed, we will let you know. But I think given the past few days’ experiences you heisters have had, I think it’s too early to say something as permanent as that.
It seems as though most of the issues that Payday 3 has been experiencing are due to a third-party company that Starbreeze worked with to host Payday’s servers. This might just be an easy way for the studio to shift the blame, but even so, it’s never good to hear a developer say they don’t know when an issue will be fixed. A rough launch can hurt a game’s reputation severely and leave it dead in the water before it even starts.
If you’re interested in watching the stream yourself, you can find it at this link. We’ll keep you posted on any further updates we receive from the developers.
In the meantime, feel free to check out our review of Payday 3 here where we acknowledge the game’s rocky launch, though it’s gameplay holds up well,
For those waiting on Dead by Daylight 2 before jumping into the asymmetrical multiplayer game, you’re going to be waiting for a while, as it doesn’t seem like Behaviour Interactive has any plans to release a Dead by Daylight sequel anytime soon.
This was divulged to us by the devs themselves. Speaking to MP1st in an interview regarding the Alien crossover, Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnerships for Behaviour Interactive states that they see “no reason” for Dead by Daylight 2 for now.
MP1st: Given we’re still seeing massive support for the game, has Behaviour ever considered making Dead by Daylight 2? Or is it not necessary given the game’s live-service nature?
Côté: We want to focus on our core game and continue to expand. Dead by Daylight is not going anywhere, there’s still so many stories to tell and so there’s no reason for us to start a new one.
Stay tuned to our full interview hitting the site soon.
Would you want to see Behaviour Interactive announce a sequel to the game? Or is their strategy of releasing more and more content drops for it the better choice?
When the bodycam FPS Unrecord first got a trailer, it looked so real that the developer had to prove it wasn’t fake with footage from the Unreal Engine 5 editor. Ever since then, all sorts of developers have been hard at work trying to replicate the bodycam footage gameplay for their own projects. The latest of these is a PvP Multiplayer shooter named, quite fittingly, Bodycam, and it looks like it’ll include some fan favorite maps from other famous FPS franchises like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty.
The first trailer is available for your viewing pleasure below:
https://youtu.be/h3gOCW1iGgo?si=NaLdhMUq-1VNbq4f
From this initial trailer, we can see a couple of adaptations of some classic maps. Dust 2, Counter-Strike’s most iconic map, is present in the trailer, as well as the Call of Duty classic Nuketown. The developers also took to Twitter to show us a closer look at their version of Nuketown:
Similarly to Unrecord, this game’s use of Unreal Engine 5 makes it look shockingly realistic. The game’s currently being developed by just two people, and what’s more, they’re only 17 and 20 years old. Hopefully Bodycam shapes up to be an entertaining experience for gamers looking for something especially grounded.
You can check out Bodycam’s Steam page here. Speaking of Call of Duty, check out what to expect from MW2 and Warzone Season 6 when it launches this Wednesday.
Bodycam is currently set to launch on PC sometime this September.
Ironically, the devs are hosting a Twitch stream for Payday 3 as their game is non-functional!
Heisters, we know you have a lot of question for PAYDAY 3, and we're ready to start answering them. Tune in today to ask @almirlisto and @PAYDAD_ your most burning questions about the current state, and future, of PAYDAY 3!https://t.co/yHBTO5dvLgpic.twitter.com/wcxEoN9iYc
Speaking of the dev chat, stay tuned here on MP1st, as we’ll have a round up of what was discussed hitting the site within the day.
No word or acknowledgement yet from the studio that the game’s servers are having issues once again, but we are keeping an eye out on whether this is happening on all platforms worldwide. We’ve checked the PS5 version and can confirm it won’t load us properly into matches.

During a panel at Ocala Comic Con last week, Cameron Monaghan, the voice of series protagonist Cal Kestis, confirmed that Star Wars Jedi 3 is currently in the works. This news comes hot on the heels of series Director Stig Asmussen announcing his departure from Respawn Entertainment just a few days ago.
The panel can be seen in full here:
Regarding Star Wars Jedi 3, Monaghan had this to say:
We’re working on the third and we’re in the process of doing it right now. That’s a big undertaking and there have been some conversations so far. Hopefully when all things are said and done we’ll be able to go in and make something really cool for you guys again.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson teased just earlier this month that Respawn’s upcoming projects are “very exciting.” The Jedi games have a great track record so far, bugs aside. It’ll likely take a few years for the next game to see the light of day, but it’s good to know it’s coming.
While you wait for Star Wars Jedi 3, check out our review of Star Wars Jedi Survivor. We gave it an 8/10 and said, “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a fun action game and a worthy follow-up from Respawn.” For those on last-gen consoles, don’t fret, the game is headed your way as well, though there’s no timetable for that just yet.
For any updates on the next Respawn game, stay tuned into us here at MP1st.
Payday 3 is the highly anticipated follow-up to Starbreeze’s acclaimed heist simulation series. Much like every other game with such weight on its shoulders, it ended up being plagued by an underwhelming launch, with more server issues than you can shake your lockpick at. Marred by a constricting online-only mode that prevented players from enjoying the game solo with the help of bots, many buyers had to sit there, twiddling their thumbs as they waited for the issues to be solved. This is a shame because Payday 3 has a solid foundation for a game that will inevitably grow and become a beloved one, but it isn’t quite there yet.
Who Let the Crooks Out
Payday 3 brings everyone’s favorite crooks back from early retirement, forcing them to engage in another series of heists for some much-needed cash. Chains, Dallas, Hoxton, and Wolf return and are joined by two newcomers, Joy and Pearl. They will go through the eight heists of the campaign in order, requiring the completion of one to unlock the next in line. This is one of the first letdowns of Payday 3, the low number of heists, which is noticeable compared to the 12 heists at launch from Payday 2 (not to mention that at this point, said game already counts with 66 heists in total).
That’s not to say that you won’t be having fun or getting busy with Payday 3, as each heist has enough detail and care to make you feel lost, sometimes overwhelmed by the labyrinthine rooms and floors, initially dazed by the speedy way that your more knowledgeable partners in crime run through the place, going straight for the objectives without giving you a chance to catch your breath, to realize what you’re doing. Even the apparently most straightforward heists hold some serious surprises, such as this nightclub that ends up being a front for underground gambling within an overall area that could harbor the population of a small country.
This is a game where you learn by trial and error, by embodying the sheer definition of a newbie as you follow others around and make a fool of yourself. Triggering alarm after alarm and messing up the plans is a constant for the first tries in each heist until you finally lay down a mental sketch of the place and start holding your weight.
Stealth isn’t as unforgiving as in previous games, but let’s be honest here: this is going to be the road less traveled and by quite a margin. Payday 3 isn’t the most subtle of heist games, although it can be said that competition is slim, too. The truth is that most players will go for the brash approach, doing the bare minimum until they feel they can engage in all-out warfare with security forces, ditching stealth and patience for the quickest and often easiest road to escaping with the loot. The heist locations turn into true battlefields, with bullets flying everywhere and players grinding their teeth as they score headshots and fill the truck with the valuables.
However, sometimes you are encouraged… scratch that, forced to discover the path through stealthy ways, as triggering the alarm automatically erases a valuable crypto wallet in the nightclub heist. When this happens, your plan B is to find as much loot as possible knowing that the big fish has already escaped.
Gunplay is fairly satisfying, with a good feeling to recoil and weight, and you’re going to need it when all hell breaks loose. The pristine locations devolve into chaos as bullets fly, the bullet-sponge and brainless security forces coming in endless waves, and the concept of a heist is forgotten until the part when you start carrying the bags to your escape van or helicopter.
Playing with AI-controlled characters is as useless as it sounds. These bots don’t do much more than move around and try to stick close to you, doing their part in the shooting but completely lacking any initiative or serving as little more than decoys for you to explore the surroundings.
Infamous Decisions
Leveling up and unlocking content in Payday 3 isn’t done via the most consensual system ever. You raise your Infamy level by completing challenges, which means you may successfully perform a heist and not earn a single experience point if you didn’t complete any of the available goals. This requires you to pay close attention to things such as defeating a given number of Cloakers, slide a certain distance, defeat a guard while he is detecting you, and the like. Having to repeat heists with these goals in mind, on top of the actual heist objectives, turns into a frustrating and unfair experience.
The skill system is straightforward, with several paths to research and upgrade. There are a few combinations to try that offer you varied builds, and it’s possible to have some fun mixing and matching things like medic and armor skills, so this is a fairly standard mechanic.
Using weapons earns specific XP and gets each one to level up and unlock mods, something that we’ve seen in other games but that doesn’t seem to be a consensual choice. It should be noted that the weapon shop is something of a trap at first, as going into your secondary slot to buy a weapon lists the entire arsenal, not just the secondary guns. Unaware players will purchase a shotgun, thinking that it will be used as an alternate weapon, but it’s actually a primary one. A simple filter would have saved some first-timer frustration in this regard.
Payday 3 does look good, despite the occasional graphical glitches. The levels come with bells and whistles that give each place some personality, and the floor complexity adds to the sense of awe when discovering a new place. The hard-hitting rock soundtrack with some techno thrown in for good measure is a banger, perfectly fitting those nasty shootouts in ways that some movies would be jealous of.
Crime Caper in the Making
Payday 3 is history repeating, a game that is lacking at launch, setting up the foundations for something that may end up being extremely good in a couple of years. This is not how things should go, but it is how it turns out sometimes, and Starbreeze just needs to listen to the players and react accordingly. The game is fun, the locations aren’t the heist sandboxes that the perfect game would offer but still have some interesting ideas, and the gunplay is enjoyable if you can cope with the bullet-sponge enemies.
If you’re not a die-hard fan of the series, waiting for the server issues to be fully resolved is the best step to take right now. When that is in the past, you may dive into these initially confusing but eventually rewarding heists, knowing that the Infamy system is a stone in your shoes, but cooperating with other like-minded players is an offer you may not want to refuse…in due time.
Score: 7.5/10
Pros:
The heist locations are interesting and diverse
Stealth isn’t as unforgiving as before
Banger soundtrack
Cons:
A troublesome launch with server issues and online-only gameplay

As announced on the official PlatinumGames X account, I will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023. This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs. and was by no means an easy decision to make.
However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.
In October 2007, Kamiya, along with the current CEO Atsushi Inabata and former members Shinji Mikami and Tatsuya Minami, founded PlatinumGames. With Hideki Kamiya’s departure, only Atsushi Inabata remains from the original founders.
During his tenure at the studio, Kamiya helmed multiple projects including Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, and he also served as the creative director on Sol Cresta.
Hideki Kamiya has provided us with countless memorable moments in the world of video games, and we extend our heartfelt best wishes to him for his future endeavors.
