PSVR2 Unboxing Video Reveals All Included Hardware Accessories and a Basic Walkthrough

An official PSVR2 unboxing video was just uploaded on the PlayStation YouTube channel, and it goes over everything you get from your purchase of the new VR headset. Walking viewers through the video is Kei Yoneyama, PSVR2’s product manager.

The video showcases everything inside the box as well as basic instructions on how to set up the device to suit your personal needs.

The video also gives us a closer look at the included in-ear headphones which you can use alongside the PSVR2. The headphones are designed for VR usage, with a relatively short cord that prevents unnecessary wires from dangling around your neck and shoulders. It also comes with tips of various sizes so you can pick one that feels most comfortable in your ears.

Aside from showcasing what the Sense controllers do, Yoneyama also goes over how to adjust your PSVR2 headset to fit the size of your head. You can pull back the headset to widen it, and an adjustable knob can tighten or loosen the headset around your head for a comfy and tight fit.

The PSVR2 launches this February 22 with various launch games available to play. You can check out the list of games here.

Stay tuned to our hands-on with the PSVR2 hitting the site soon.

A Significant Percentage of PlayStation Gamers Bought a Sony Console Because of Call of Duty, According to CMA Survey

Sony’s been quite an active voice against the Microsoft-Activison acquisition deal for a while now, and a recent survey by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has just revealed some interesting information regarding the company’s PlayStation line of consoles. The survey, which focused on PlayStation gamers, revealed that a large portion of the respondents chose a PlayStation console due to Call of Duty.

The actual percentage, which stands at a surprisingly high 73%, ranks as the highest game on the CMA document‘s “game availability” chart. For reference, of the total number of respondents, 88% of them were influenced by the availability of one or more particular games on PlayStation. The second-highest non-exclusive game, GTA 5, ranks at 45% instead. PS exclusive games were bundled up into one separate category and ranked second at 69%.

Another chart reveals the likeliest course of action in the event that future Call of Duty games would be unavailable. Around 24% of respondents stated they would buy another device instead of a PlayStation, while 21% would simply stop playing CoD entirely.

Though Call of Duty is very much a multiplatform gaming franchise, it’s clear that Sony may be affected by the Microsoft-Activision acquisition if the deal would result in CoD going Xbox-exclusive.

Apex Legends Revelry Season 16 Patch Notes and Battle Pass Released

While the download file for Apex Legends’ Season 16 titled “Revelry” isn’t due until next week when it launches on Feb. 14, Respawn Entertainment has already released the official Apex Legends Revelry patch notes ahead of release! We also have the Battle Pass trailer that showcases what gamers will be getting as well.

Apex Legends Revelry Patch Notes and Battle Pass Trailer:

REMASTERED LEGEND CLASSES

In Revelry, Legends have been reorganized on the Legends Screen according to their Class. You’ll be able to see their associated Class perk on top of that Legend’s unique abilities.

This reorganization will help players identify Legends that play or support the team in a similar manner, and help them understand the new roles easier. There will be 5 Classes:

  • Assault
  • Recon
  • Skirmisher
  • Controller
  • Support

CLASS PERKS

Every Legend Class also now has an associated gameplay perk that grants the Legends of that class access to new strategic options in the game.

At casual levels of play, these new gameplay benefits will be fun new bonuses to engage with and empower decision-making.

At higher levels of play, a squad make-up now determines what gameplay elements the team will have access to, and what they’re leaving behind.

TEAM DEATHMATCH, PERMANENT LIMITED-TIME MODE ROTATIONS

At the launch of Revelry, we’ll be debuting Team Deathmatch to the Apex Games –  a no holds barred brawl between two teams of six – which will be available for the first three weeks of the season. This has been our most requested mode, and we’re excited for players to check in out.

In Team Deathmatch players will be able to select their Legend and weapon loadouts, similar to Control, with respawns occurring automatically after death. The first team to score 30 kills wins the round, and the first team to win two rounds wins the match. Loadouts will shuffle in between rounds, and you can always swap between them and your selected legend while waiting to respawn after death. Make sure to keep an eye out for periodic airdrops throughout the map which come loaded with Care Package and gold-kitted weapons.

MIXTAPE PLAYLIST

Following the first three weeks of Team Deathmatch, we’re thrilled to introduce a brand new way to enjoy some of our more highly requested LTMs on a permanent rotation with our Mixtape Playlist. This new mode queue provides players with the opportunity to jump right into frenetic and engaging combat experiences between our quick respawn modes: Control, Team Deathmatch, and Gun Run. These modes give ample opportunity to experiment and practice with weapons and Legends outside of our core BR experience, with little downtime between fights and respawns.

NEW WEAPON: NEMESIS

It’s been a while since we unleashed a new weapon and the wait will be over when Revelry launches with a new energy weapon: The Nemesis, a new energy class assault rifle that fires four rounds per burst. With a ramping burst delay that decreases the time between bursts and simulates a fully automatic weapon, we’re hoping to see this potentially unseat favorite standbys like the R-301 and Flatline.

ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION EVENT

This month is also the 4th Anniversary of Apex Legends™ and we’re celebrating with the Anniversary Collection Event featuring an all-new community content reward track and lots of celebrations happening in the game including login rewards✝ during the first two weeks of the season, with week one featuring Crypto unlocked and one Crypto Thematic pack for all players that login, and week two unlocking Ash plus one Ash Thematic pack for all players that login. Also, every map in the rotation will have special decorations and we’ll have the return of a fan favorite that we’ll reveal closer to the launch.

FIRING RANGE UPDATES

  • Added options to customize your firing range experience
  • Dummies can now strafe left and right! You control how fast they move, whether they should crouch, and their shield level.
  • Dynamic stats appear any time you deal damage, letting you track your performance.
  • Hit indicators help you keep track of spray patterns.
  • Unlimited ammo means no more trips back to the gun racks to reload.
  • This is the first of several rounds of updates to the firing range, so we will keep an eye on how the community uses the new tools.

ORIENTATION MATCHES

New to the Outlands? Try the new Orientation Match system, meant to create an easy introduction where new players can get their bearings and learn the core mechanics of Apex Legends. To participate in Orientation matches you have to be a brand new player or party up with a new player to take out some bots before joining the regular matchmaking queue.

Hogwarts Legacy Herbology Guide – Where and How to Gather Plants and Ingredients

Herbology is one of the many things you learn during your time at Hogwarts, and it has quite a few practical applications when out in the field. Though you don’t actually get to access the feature fully right away, it’ll become an important part of gameplay as you continue on through the game’s story. Through Herbology, you can create a steady supply of plant material for use as tools or ingredients in potions.

Herbology is pretty straightforward, but there are many ways to gather ingredients. With this Hogwarts Legacy herbology guide, you’ll know how to procure ingredients and grow plants by yourself.

Hogwarts Legacy Herbology Guide

What is Herbology?

Herbology is the study of plants and fungi in Hogwarts Legacy. It is learned in the Greenhouses of Hogwarts, where plants and fungi of all kinds grow in the sunlight. You’ll learn about Herbology as part of Hogwarts Legacy’s main story, so you’ll have to keep on playing through it until you reach the class, which will be taught by Professor Garlick.

The class itself will teach you how to grow your own ingredients. Doing so requires a potting table, where you can plant seeds and have them grow. You’ll also learn that despite incorporating the use of magic, growing plants isn’t instant, and you’ll have to wait for the plants to grow before you can actually harvest them.

How Do I Grow Plants?

To grow your own plants and ingredients, you’ll first need seeds, which can be purchased at The Magic Neep. You can also buy ready-to-use ingredients here in case you’re missing a couple and you don’t have the time to wait for them to grow.

When you first learn about herbology, the only place you’ll be able to grow seeds is in the classroom where you learned Herbology in the first place. This can be a little inconvenient, however, so it’s recommended that you continue playing through the main quests until you unlock the Room of Requirement. Doing so will unlock a large space where you can install potting tables.

While you’ll have access to the smallest potting table from the get-go, you’ll need to unlock the spellcrafts for larger ones by purchasing them in Hogsmeade. The cost of these spellcrafts is pretty steep, so keep that in mind when buying the recipes.

How Long Does It Take to Grow Plants?

Plants can take around 10-15 minutes to grow, depending on the seed you’re growing. Note that this is in real-world time, not in-game time. As such, you’ll likely want to do other things while the plants grow, such as explore the Forbidden Forest or do some side quests. Once enough time has elapsed, simply return to the potting table and collect your fully grown plants.

Growing plants is fairly simple in Hogwarts Legacy, and while it isn’t the fastest method of doing so, it does offer a guaranteed and steady source of your most important ingredients. You can never have too many Wiggenweld Potions!

Bobby Kotick: Sony “Trying to Sabotage” Microsoft-Activision Deal

In a change of tone, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has accused Sony of “trying to sabotage” Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, following his claims about the PlayStation company’s recent refusal to talk business with him. Kotick’s comments were shortly followed by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)’s provisional report yesterday, which found that the deal bears significant anticompetitive risk and recommended major structural remedies.

As the deal continues to face strong opposition in the US and UK, Kotick has been vocalizing his disapproval of what he feels is ill-informed, biased regulatory action and petty undermining from competitors. This week, he claimed that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and UK CMA “do not know” the gaming industry, and that the UK would become “Death Valley” if it blocked the acquisition. After separately criticizing Sony for refusing to take his calls to discuss business, Kotick now lashed out at the former for “trying to sabotage” the deal:

(Activision offers its games to Sony’s PlayStation console and this deal is about to expire.) Suddenly, Sony’s entire leadership team stopped talking to anyone at Microsoft. I think this is all Sony just trying to sabotage the transaction. The whole idea that we are not going to support a PlayStation or that Microsoft would not support the PlayStation, it is absurd.

When asked to comment by the interviewer, Sony had this to say: “We are in contact with Microsoft and have no further comment regarding our private negotiations.”

Yesterday, the CMA published provisional findings from its review of Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. The UK regulator found that the deal was likely to result in two substantial lessening of competition (SLC) scenarios in the console hardware and cloud gaming markets. Though the CMA remains open to behavioral remedies that ensure other platforms’ equal access to Call of Duty, it has recommended that the franchise or large parts of the Activision Blizzard business be divested for the deal to be allowed to go through.

Hogwarts Legacy: Wand Customization Guide

Every student in Hogwarts needs a wand that suits them, and while you begin Hogwarts Legacy with a premade wand, you’ll end up getting another one that’s far more customizable as you continue the main story. You can design your wand in various different ways, making it pretty easy to get one that’s unique.

This Hogwarts Legacy Wand customization guide will help you customize the perfect wand to carry with you throughout the rest of Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy: Wand Customization Guide

How Do You Customize Your Wand?

At the start of the game, you’ll already have a wand to cast spells with, but it’s not one that you can customize the looks of. To actually unlock a custom wand in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to play through the main quests until you reach a point in the story where you’ll have to visit Ollivanders, the local wand shop in Hogsmeade.

Once there, you’ll talk to Gerbold Ollivander, who helps you pick out a wand. After a couple of tries, he’ll present you with one inside a box, and this will then open up the wand customization menu.

How Does Wand Customization Work?

Wand customization is completely cosmetic. In other words, no matter what type of core, wood, or design you choose, the wand will work just like any other you customize. As such, you’re free to pick whatever designs you fancy. Some elements of the customization menu, such as the length or wood type, don’t actually affect the wand’s visual appearance, and are merely for added flavor.

Wand Style

You are able to choose between eight different wand styles, with ribbed, natural, and other styles as options. Adding even more customization, each wand style has three different variations, offering a total of 24 combinations right from the get-go. Note that the available variations differ between styles, which means that you may not find a style and variation combo you particularly like.

Wood Type

This section of the menu focuses on the details surrounding the wand’s wood. You can choose the wand’s wood type, length, and flexibility. The length ranges from nine and a half inches to fourteen and a half inches, whereas flexibility ranges from “quite bendy to “unyielding.” Keep in mind that all of these options are purely cosmetic, and they don’t actually change the look of your wand either. They’re purely there to add flavor for fans who really want to stick to the details.

Wand Core Options

Finally, you get to choose your wand’s core, which is said to affect how your magic works when casting through it. Like all the other options in wand customization, this is purely cosmetic, though you may not initially think so based on the cores’ descriptions. Dragon Heartstring produces “powerful magic,” for example, whereas Pheonix Feather produces “a great range of magic.” Again, these don’t affect actual combat or gameplay, so pick a core that you prefer the most.

Once you’re done finalizing your wand, that’s it! You’ve got your very own, Hogwarts-approved magic wand. Keep in mind that after you’ve finalized your wand, you can’t actually change it again, so be sure to go through everything once more just to ensure that everything’s to your liking.

The new FAQ details a host of new gameplay and functionality information, the highlights of which are listed below:

  • The PS4 physical edition of the game can be upgraded at no additional cost to the PS5 digital version.
  • The Xbox One physical version is Smart Delivery-supported, and as such gives players access to the Xbox Series X|S version at no additional cost.
  • The Xbox digital versions are Xbox Play Anywhere-compatible, meaning purchasing one version gives players access to the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store versions.
  • Save data can be migrated across PS4 and PS5 consoles, and is automatically synced to the cloud in the case of the Xbox and Microsoft Store versions.
  • Three types of online multiplayer are present:
    • Recruitment: Co-op play that supports 3 players
    • Co-op: Multiplayer that supports 3 players using the friend system or passwords
    • Invade: Invasion of other players’ missions or getting invaded by other players
      • Invasions can be turned on or off in the Options menu.
  • Crossplay is supported, but ecosystem-limited:
    • PS5 and PS4 are grouped together.
    • The Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store (including Xbox Game Pass) versions are grouped together.
    • The Steam version on PC apparently cannot engage in multiplayer with any other version.
  • Characters can be shared using a code, but are limited by the same ecosystem lock-in as crossplay functionality.
  • A 1-star version of the 4-star “Crouching Dragon Helmet” DLC (which is obtainable only through completion of the demo) can be unlocked in the full game.

Those interested can read the full FAQ here, which details the specifics of save data migration, the redeeming of the “Crouching Dragon Helmet” DLC in the full game, and more.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty launches March 3, 2023 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with day-one access on Xbox Game Pass as well. Check out the one-minute gameplay trailer from last August, which showcases the game’s shinobi-style combat and mythological enemy NPCs.

For those seeking the latest rewards in Destiny 2’s weekly PvP mode, MP1st is here to bring you the new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week February 10, 2023 edition!

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week February 10, 2023:

Trials of Osiris Map

Radiant Cliffs

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: Exalted Truth (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards

Final Fantasy Tactics Team “Incredibly Busy” With New Unannounced Project

The Square Enix development team behind Final Fantasy Tactics is “incredibly busy” with work on a new announced project, according to Theatrhythm Final Bar Line producer Ichiro Hazama from indieszero.

In an interview discussing Theatrhythm Final Bar Line ahead of its February 16 release date, producer Ichiro Hazama and director Masanobu Suzui from indieszero talked about the challenges of incorporating the vast library of material from other Square Enix titles into Theatrhythm. Hazama has also previously worked on Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, which features characters from Final Fantasy games in a similar fashion to Theatrhythm.

At one point in the interview, Hazama was asked about the absence of many iconic Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XIV characters in Opera Omnia. He explained that both the Opera Omnia and Theatrhythm teams consult the relevant game’s creators before incorporating its characters, and that the Final Fantasy Tactics team’s preoccupation with a new project currently prevents such cooperation.

Regarding FINAL FANTASY TACTICS characters and why most of them are not in the game yet, it is essentially similar to what we do with Theatrhythm. This is a title coming with the whole series, involving characters and stories for every single one of them. What we really don’t want to do with these kinds of games like Opera Omnia and Theatrhythm is just to do Final Fantasy how we think it is, how we think it should be. We have to check with the staff who are responsible for each of the individual titles. […]

We have to talk about the characters, what kind of abilities they should have, how they should behave in the game, how they should be portrayed, this kind of performance. We need to check all that, we just don’t want to do it ourselves.

The Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment, they have other things to do. They are heavily involved in another project at the moment so we just don’t have time to talk to them. I think that’s probably why more TACTICS characters haven’t been included in the game, we just need time to find out the details.

While no details have come out so far about said project, a “Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster” entry was spotted in the 2021 GeForce Now leak. As the Tactics Ogre and Chrono Cross remasters mentioned in the same leak have both since materialized, it is quite likely that this particular remaster will be formally announced in due time as well.

The Division 2 Servers Down for Unscheduled Maintenance and Patch Roll Out This Feb. 10

Following yesterday’s announcement that The Division 2 can’t be updated due to a critical backend error, it seems this has been fixed somewhat, as Ubisoft will be taking The Division 2 servers down this Feb. 10, and during this time, a new patch will be released.

The Division 2 Servers Down Status and Updates for Feb. 10:

Here’s the announcement from Ubisoft:

We’ll be taking the servers down for an unscheduled maintenance today, Friday, February 10th, at at 04:00 PM CET, 10:00 AM ET, 07:00 AM PDT.

Estimated downtime is 3 hours.

As for the patch, it’s not mentioned whether this will be a server-side patch or if players will need to download anything. We do have the patch notes though, which is available below.

CHANGELOG

  • Fixed the blank screens and empty menu tabs
  • Fixed multiple error messages
  • Fixed the issue that affected World Difficulty and Global Directives
  • Fixed the inability to make Seasonal in-game purchases
  • Fixed the issue that affected Control Points reset
  • Fixed the issue that caused the game to crash when interacting with the Pilot at the BOO in Washington DC
  • Fixed the issue that caused the game to crash when hovering over the Countdown icon on the World Map
  • Partially fixed the game crashes that occurred due to opening the map or travelling from New York back to Washington DC
    • More fixes for the issue are planned for TU17
  • Fixed other instances associated with the technical issues that caused the game to crash

 KNOWN ISSUES

  • Traveling from New York back to DC can still cause the game to crash. Recommended workarounds:
    • Start a Countdown game
    • Disable Global Directives
    • Join another agent/group of agents in Washington DC
    • Speak to the pilot at Haven

If anything changes regarding the server downtime, we’ll be sure to update the article.

Battlefield 2042 Update 3.2.1 Patch Notes Revealed Ahead of Next Week’s Roll Out

DICE has revealed the full patch notes for Battlefield 2042 update 3.2.1 today. This update will be released next week, though an official release date has not been set just yet. We’re expecting it on Tuesday as the soonest it’ll be available. Check out the Battlefield 2042 patch notes posted down below.

Battlefield 2042 Update 3.2.1 Patch Notes:

Changelog

Gadgets

FGM-148 Javelin

  • The FGM-148 Javelin can no longer lock onto the Tracer Dart while the dart is out of line of sight.

Tracer Dart Gun

  • The Tracer Dart will now correctly drop in height dependent on the distance it has to travel.
  • Reduced the projectile speed of the Tracer Dart from 500 m/s to 250 m/s.
  • The uptime of the Tracer Dart will now last 12 seconds instead of 40 seconds.
    • Dev Comment: We’ve adjusted the trajectory and speed of the Tracer Dart to now offer a skill element to this gadget if you’re aiming to land shots from long range distances, if you wish to reliably designate targets from long distance the SOFLAM remains a tried and tested choice.

Gameplay Flow & Social Elements

  • Unlock Descriptions will now correctly show for Class Badges on the reward screen after a match.
  •  The description for Falck’s Combat Surgeon Trait now correctly states that she is able to revive faster, rather than revive to full health.

Soldier

  • Fixed an issue where the time it took for firing when leaving sprint was much longer than expected with Assault Rifles.
  • Fixed an issue where the auto deploy of the parachute did not function properly.
  • The Assault Weapon Proficiency will no longer grant extra ammunition for Underbarrel Grenade Launchers.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause projectiles to not deal damage correctly when Specialists are facing down.
  • Fixed a minor desync issue that resulted in the player jumping in a slightly longer arch than expected. Don’t be alarmed, we didn’t put any springs in your boots!

Specialists

Angel

  • Fixed an issue that would allow players to select any Gadget with any Specialist via Angel’s Loadout Crate.

Crawford – Mounted Vulcan

  • Increased the health of Crawford’s Mounted Vulcan by 60%
    • Dev Comment: This change is to increase the survivability when up against direct gunfire. Grenades and Rocket Launchers will still cause it considerable damage.
  • Mounted Vulcan now lasts 7 seconds from the moment it begins firing to reaching its overheating point.
  • Players are no longer able to place down 4 Mounted Vulcans. One is enough!

Dozer

  • You can no longer use Dozer’s SOB-8 Ballistic Shield while also using a parachute, or whilst prone.

Weapons

As part of the recent Update 3.2 we reduced the ADS time for Drum and Extended Magazines. We’re reverting that change in this update.

Your feedback to change these attachments suggested having slower reload times, or less overall ammo due to the reduced magazine count. These are very valid areas to look at, however we believe those two would not compensate for the greater increase in combat uptime that these attachments give you.

With a shorter magazine, you have to pick your fights while weaving in and out of combat against multiple enemies, prioritizing targets based on awareness or proximity. With larger magazines, such as the case with Drum and Extended Magazines, this overhead disappears as you have the luxury of less reloading and more ammo availability.

It’s very important for us to act upon your feedback, and we’ll continue to make adjustments for Drum and Extended Magazines in a later update.

Drum and Extended Magazines

  • ADS draw rate has been reverted to pre-update 3.2 values. You’ll now notice that the draw rate is more immediate, and less weighted than before.

MTAR-21

  • Adjusted the recoil of the MTAR-21 to be in line with other Assault Rifle weaponry.
  • MTAR-21 damage increased up to 40m from 18 -> 22

PP-2000

  • PP-2000 damage increased up to 50m from 22 -> 28

Alan Wake 2 “Playable From Start to Finish,” Control 2 Now in Proof-of-Concept Stage

In its Q4 2022 financial report, Remedy Entertainment has provided progress updates on a number of its upcoming titles. Most prominently, Alan Wake 2 is in “full production” and is now “playable from start to finish,” while Control 2, announced last November, has progressed into the proof-of-concept stage.

While total revenue and operating profits in Q4 2022 and the full year declined by 31.2% and 2.5% respectively from comparable periods, Remedy attributes these results to co-financing most of its upcoming projects and the strength of the comparable periods from 2021. It also predicts further decline in revenue in 2023 due to the development costs it is covering itself, but is hopeful that these will be justified by increased royalty potential from these titles in future years.

Remedy also provided updates on the development status of its five upcoming titles:

  • Alan Wake 2 will soon “have all content in place,” and is now fully playable “from start to finish.” The team will polish and optimize the title afterwards, and expects that Alan Wake Remastered will generate royalties through drawing new players as the release of Alan Wake 2 approaches in 2023.
  • Control 2, developed and published in collaboration with Control publisher 505 Games, now has detailed “game vision” ideas as well as gameplay, narrative, and art concepts. As of January 2023, the project has moved into the proof-of-concept stage.
  • The Control spinoff service-based game Codename Condor, also a collaborative project with 505 Games, remains in the proof-of-concept stage due to Remedy’s inexperience with the format and the logistics of initiating development on the title.
  • Codename Vanguard, co-financed and published with Tencent, has been kept in the proof-of-concept stage since Fall 2022, with significant development team expansion postponed until 2023. The core gameplay and meta game are the current focus of development, as well as the application of Remedy-style narrative and worldbuilding to the game. The development team has been “strengthened by select key hires.”
  • The Max Payne 1 & 2 remake remains in the concept stage, though “good progress” has been made on the project.”

Stay tuned here at MP1st for all updates and announcements about Remedy’s upcoming titles.

Undisputed Hands-On Preview – A Jab at the Title Belt

Beyond the raw brutality of boxing lies a sport that is more about timing and accuracy than sheer brute force. The power of each punch succession and the subsequent flying sweat droplets aren’t easy to convey in a videogame, but Undisputed is taking a fierce jab at the competition with a strong early access start. Stepping into the ring with a bold spirit, Steel City Interactive unleashed a somewhat shallow but extremely punchy version that offers a good taste of things to come.

Get in the Ring

Much like any fighting videogame worthy of eSports backing, Undisputed is a test of skills and timing where practice will yield the best results and no amount of button spamming shall suffice. This is a pure tactical simulation where footwork is just as important as landing a punch, as you carefully judge your distance and quickly work out the best approach on each moment. The adrenaline rush is real, the impactful way a punch lands as your opponent leaves their guard down for a moment is portrayed in a way that feels visceral, combos too authentic to immerse us in a nail-biting spectator sport.

Undisputed shines because it pulls no punches, a wildly adequate pun for a game where you have so many options at your disposal that it will take several fights to explore a tiny fragment of the possibilities. Dodges, uppercuts, hooks, counters, movement modifiers to adapt to a style that may be more suited to you or your selected fighter, and so much more – all of this with a very robust physics system that for once make you feel like a hulking fighter with actual weight and fatigue, not a standard videogame character with a complete disregard for things like damage or stamina.

Undisputed Hands-On Preview

Speaking of stamina, this is one of the key factors in every fight and could tip the scales in your favor if you play your cards right. It requires constant management, as every attempted punch will consume stamina up to a point where your hits will be sorely lacking, and you must get to a safe distance and recover your breath. Hitting the opponent’s lower body is how you drain stamina, effectively reducing their ability to chain hits and delivering a solid blow to their ambition, but the same can be said about your fighter – protecting the head is crucial, but leaving your body wide open is an invitation to a succession of literal punches to the stomach.

Power punches consume more stamina than normal hits, but if you land enough of these you can daze your opponent and enter adrenaline mode, a state where you have unlimited stamina to knock your adversary down. If you’re on the receiving end of a potential knockout, you have a few seconds to try and get back up through a minigame where you must keep two markers within the required zones, with the caveat that these are moving. It’s slightly harder to achieve than expected, as your senses may get muddled by the two markers moving in different positions, but the rewarding feeling of recovering from an almost warranted defeat is unmatched.

The current roster brings more than 50 fighters to the ring with some legends to be reckoned with. Across the welterweight, lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight categories you can find names such as Muhammad Ali and Rocky Marciano, to more recent figures including Tyson Fury, Terence Crawford, or Saúl Álvarez. The Women’s Division wasn’t forgotten, with Katie Taylor, Jessica McCaskill, and a few more featured.

Each fighter comes with a robust set of attributes and traits that are more than mere bullet points; they affect your fighting approach and will be scrutinized and deconstructed to the tiniest detail by genre experts, potentially triggering heated debates about balancing and accurateness. Some fighters seem more prone to being selected for online matches as their stats are pretty much top tier, with Muhammad Ali being one of the current picks. However, a great fighting game must give every character a legitimate shot at beating a technically superior fighter, and this is where Undisputed may yet see some improvement.

The Depth Is Yet to Come

Undisputed Hands-On Preview

Undisputed throws some good jabs and hooks, but there isn’t much to bite in terms of game modes right now. A career mode is planned and will surely be the main draw for solo players, and there are promises of additional moves, fighters, character customization, and gameplay balancing, among other things. So far, it’s an exciting but barebones representation of everything boxing, with some rough edges to polish.

Take the body damage as a case in point. Even after several rounds of unrelenting scuffles, the cuts and bruises seem ever so slight, considering the strength of the exchanges. The absence of a referee is also noticeable, something that Fight Night Champion realized with unabashed confidence.

Not for lack of actual competition but due to its own qualities, Undisputed has a genuine shot at the title. It’s a boxing game with an enthralling match flow, with movements that often feel organic and substantial. There’s work to be done in areas that emphasize realism and longevity, but so far, Undisputed could be a few fights away from becoming the new owner of the genre’s championship belt.

MP1st was given access to a preview build of Undisputed for our hands-on session. Undisputed is currently in early access for PC and is also planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S.
