Battlefield 2042 In-Game Store Images & Specialist Rework Changes Spotted in Patch 4.0; HDR Option Fix Coming in Future Update

Last week, DICE rolled out the what is probably Battlefield 2042’s biggest patch to date with title update 4.0. Not only did this patch include over 400 fixes and gameplay improvements, but even a slew of pre-season challenges were unearthed which suggests that Season 1 will start sometime in June. In addition to that, it seems DICE is planning to kick off the Battlefield 2042 in-game store soon-ish, as new category images have been spotted in the game files, too!

Unearthed by reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal, the in-game store category images were included in patch 4.0, and included bundles, cosmetics for soldiers, weapons and vehicles, and XP boosts. Ther were also files for five Premium currency packages and tiers, and weekly and bonus missions for the upcoming Battle Pass which we have not heard anything abouy since the game launched.

The dataminer also adds that the old version of the soldier cosmetics tile for the store menu was part of the Battlefield 2042 technical test client, and also features an unknown Specialist which they think might be “Hale” — a Specialist that was spotted in the data files recently.

In addition to the in-game store, another thing that was spotted a Specialist rework! This mentions “class selection,” “progress” and “level.” It even mentions “combat medics” and what they can do. This makes sense, as DICE has confirmed recently that Specialists are not getting removed but reworked.

In other Battlefield 2042 news, Battlefield Community Manager Straatford87 confirmed (via the EA Answers forums) that a fix is incoming for an HDR option fix for consoles, so that it’ll be enabled automatically if your TV/monitor supports it. This fix will be released in a future update.

Same with everything that’s datamined, the findings here do not guarantee that an in-game store selling cosmetics and XP boosts will be making its way out anytime soon, though don’t be surprised if they do. I mean, this is the sort of the thing that makes sense to be part of the Season 1 roll out. Hopefully, the game is in a much better shape (and there’s a ton of new content) before we see microtransaction of any kind make its way out.

Rumor: Ubisoft Acquisition Possibly in the Works After Tanked Stocks & Other Issues

According to a report from Bloomberg, Ubisoft is apparently being readied for acquisition amidst tanking stock numbers and numerous other issues, including development problems and its recent controversies with NFTs. As per the report, two huge private equity firms are looking to acquire the Assassin’s Creed publisher, although no serious talks have yet been held.

Blackstone and KKR & Co., the two biggest private equity firms in the world, have apparently experessed interest in the Ubisoft acquisition, with both firms “studying the French business.” In an additional report from Kotaku, various sources stated that Ubisoft has been working with various outside consultancy firms to audit the many parts of its business. Usually, this points towards more profitability in the future for a company, Kotaku’s sources say that this is Ubisoft tidying up its books for a potential sale.

While at the time of writing still unconfirmed, Ubisoft is still continuing to develop future titles. Just yesterday, the publisher announced that they are working on a team battle arena game called Project Q, with Ubisoft clarifying that this is not a battle royale nor will it have NFTs. The clarification is most likely a preemptive move to appease players; the publisher received a ton of flak for announcing Ghost Recon Frontline, which is a battle royale, and for implementing NFTs in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

As is the case with everything unconfirmed, take this one with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.

Borderlands 3 PlayStation Crossplay Finally Being Added This Spring

Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands 3 PlayStation crossplay is finally being added, allowing PS4 and PS5 players to finally play with those on PC and Xbox platforms. The announcement was made over in PAX East, and it represents a significant change in Sony overall, as the PlayStation parent company is notable for not allowing crossplay for most of their multiplayer games.

Borderlands 3 PlayStation crossplay is said to be arriving sometime this Spring. With that update, players on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Stadia will be able to play together regardless of their platform, something that was impossible when the game first launched in 2019.

It’s still unknown what made Sony change their mind on the crossplay situation. It was revealed during the height of the Epic Games vs. Apple saga that Sony requires a royalty fee from developers looking to add crossplay functionality to their game. Whether Gearbox finally caved or another deal was worked instead, we may never know; that said, it’s good news all around that the entire playerbase will be able to play with each other come Spring.

Stay tuned here at MP1st for the patch notes of this coming crossplay update once it launches. In case you missed it, Gearbox also announced a new Tales from the Borderlands game during PAX East, and you can read the details here.

Weird West Review – Wild, Wry and Wicked (Xbox Series X)

As a guy who grew up going on road trips with my family through the western half of the U.S., I developed a special appreciation for art of the Western genre. Evidently I’m not the only one, given that film Westerns were the largest portion of movies being made at one point last century and even recently just three years ago Rockstar Games released their mega-smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2, which itself, is a sequel to a huge smash hit Western. Now, Devolver has published the first release from new studio WolfEye in Weird West, which was started by former Arkane Studios (studio behind Dishonored and most recently, Deathloop) creatives and others. It makes sense, given the scope of RDR2’s success, that we haven’t seen a lot of Western games released since. But perhaps now the dust has settled enough to let a studio from such renowned stock take a smaller, spookier, and more Indie approach to the Wild West. I, for one, was excited to find out.

Blue and Strange Shadows on the Trail

Weird West immediately lives up to its name upon launching. The opening cinematic shows what kind of world WolfEye is trying to build. Familiar images of cowboys and stagecoaches mixed with silhouettes of zombies, cannibals, and witches summoning wraiths commentated by a ghostly woman’s voice with a faint Wyoming accent. The game itself opens with a scene of a person in a hood being used in some ritual involving five portraits. As it turns out, these five portraits form the basis of the game’s wider structure as the story has you take turns playing out the stories of five different denizens of this strange place. As the camera fades in and out, you take control of a woman who we quickly learn is a retired bounty hunter whose husband has been kidnapped by a gang with less than traditional motives. It’s an intriguing set up that lends itself to what I think is Weird West’s best feature: its tone and atmosphere.

The name may seem plainly obvious, but it’s honest. This world is a mix and match of gothic macabre horror and western sheriffs, outlaws, and Indians. A people called the Fire Nation Tribe works as a stand-in for Native Americans as a whole, but especially the group of tribes that associate under the Anishinaabe banner from the Great Lakes region. They, along with most of the various groups in the game, feel considered and interesting. Likely thanks to the fact that there was a member from one of the Anishinaabe tribes on the writing staff. What you end up with is a surprising and interesting take on both sub genres. Taking the elements of monsters of gothic horror out of European cities and putting them into the setting of the plains and deserts of the western U.S. isn’t something completely unheard of, but it is unusual and it’s executed well here. The danger and uncertainty of both genres mesh well, and I found myself, not usually someone interested in video game narratives in any particular way, completely engrossed. The mystery is good, and while I felt that they tipped their hand a little too much too soon, I still liked it.

My Heroes Have Always been Cowboys…and Pigmen, and Werewolves, and…

On the gameplay front, one might find Weird West to be fun but far less imaginative. It is an isometric action-RPG using twin stick shooter controls in combat. You’re looting cabinets and bodies for better weapons and vests, collecting junk to sell, precious metals to upgrade weapons, and taking on bounties to get big paydays. This is a modern RPG in the Bethesda sense. There isn’t anything particularly unusual about the systems and they all work.

There is something very cool about the environment and level design, however. Rather than go for a full open world, WolfEye has opted for creating smaller areas that are represented by markers on a large map. When you select where to go on the map an animation plays of your character’s cursor moving across the world and how many in-game hours are passing. Along the way you can have random encounters with various monsters, gypsy caravans, or strangers needing to talk to you. It’s an interesting way to split the difference and cut out the empty fluff that so many truly open world games get bogged down in.

As mentioned previously, you play as five different characters over the course of the story. To this effect, there are two different upgrade screens. One is exclusively combat focused and for the current character you’re playing as and doesn’t continue into your next journey since each character plays differently. The second screen uses a different collectible (Golden Ace of Spades) and those ones do apply across all the characters. Thankfully, this second tree is full of the more significant upgrades to the game as a whole. In true Dishonored fashion, you are given plenty to work with for approaching scenarios the way you’d like. But I found that there was a lack of complexity or real difference between them. Mostly it’s a choice between stealth or aggression. There may be several weapons or attacks you can use to do either of those, but the areas are not big or complex enough to make them entirely different experiences rather than different starting points to the same result of needing to kill the things that are trying to kill you.

There are some twists of course. There are no characters you cannot kill, including important story characters and even your own allies. At the end of each character’s journey a screen telling you your choices comes up and as you can imagine, those choices have an effect on how the story goes. Choices are occasionally dialogue options but are frequently real choices you make in the moment to moment gameplay like who you let live, what your reputation score was, or what side missions you completed. I appreciated the active role the player takes in things. I hate when a game feels like a series of menus and while all the dialogue is unvoiced text, this experience never feels like that.

They Can’t All Be Happy Trails

None of this is to say the game doesn’t have faults, because it does. I encountered a handful of bugs a few times over the course of my time, the most annoying of which was several times when the cursor on the menus would start to stray so forcefully that it became uncontrollable. On one occasion it lasted long enough that I had to restart the game because it made it impossible to navigate the menus. I also encountered some stuttering and audio break up, which is so so sad because the music and narrator in this game are both great.

Verdict

I have been itching for a game just like this and I didn’t even realize it. The story is intriguing and the setting is realized in a lovely way. The moment to moment gameplay is fun if not occasionally simple or buggy. Even still, I would not say that those things detract from the experience enough for me to not recommend it. Weird West isn’t likely going to spark a genre boom, but I hope it gets a sequel because I would love to spend more time in this strange and wonderful world, and I would love to see what the developers would be able to make with another outing given how successful this first one was. Here’s hoping that WolfEye gets the recognition they deserve and that somehow enough people peel off of Elden Ring to give Weird West its fair shot.

Score: 8.5/10

Pros:

  • Fantastic setting and premise
  • Compelling story
  • Music is great
  • Stylized graphics

Cons:

  • Infrequent but noticeable bugs
  • Audio stutters
  • Uninspired looting mechanics

Weird West review code was provided by the publisher. Version tested Xbox Series. You can read MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here.

Elden Ring Game Boy Demake in Development by Super Fan

Demakes are all the rage nowadays as the current gaming crowd grows nostalgic for the earlier days in video games. We’ve seen Bloodborne PSX already, so here’s a sneak peek at the Elden Ring Game Boy demake, currently being developed by an avid fan of the critically-acclaimed title by FromSoftware.

If you’ve ever wondered how Elden Ring will look like if played on a Game Boy, then wonder no further. The demake looks and plays like Pokemon, but at another glance you’ll see telltale signs of Elden Ring flourished into the game. Check out a video of the demake in action below.

Posted by -shin-, the footage opens up immediately in the Church of Anticipation, and follows the first few minutes of the game as the Tarnished maks his way to the first boss, the Grafted Scion. You can roll and attack as well, although it remains to be seen if things will get further complex in terms of controls; -shin- mentions that the game will work on real hardware, meaning that your input options are quite limited.

Here are some more details on the game as he laid out in the original Reddit post:

I’m using GB Studio 3.0, a really impressive and brand new piece of software to develop this game. I haven’t decided on the scope yet, but I am at least hoping to finish Limgrave area by the end of May.

If you want to keep up with development or have any questions, I will be streaming some of my development over at https://www.twitch.tv/shintendotv, first stream starting about 3 hours after I made this post. Hope to see you there. I will also be posting updates on my Youtube channel if you prefer that. https://www.youtube.com/c/shintendoyt

In case you missed it, the other FromSoftware demake, Bloodborne PSX, is now available free-to-play on PC. Check it out here.

Halo Infinite 2022 Roadmap Revealed; Season 3 Coming November 8

343 Industries has finally revealed the Halo Infinite 2022 roadmap, showing players what they can expect in terms of content and support for the gamee’s future this year. By the looks of things, campaign co-op will be delayed quite significantly, as we are getting quite a long Season 2; Season 3 is coming in November, meaning six months for the Season 2. However, it looks like Forge mode still on track for Season 3.

But the big news here is: 343 will have only added just one map in Halo Infinite’s first year, which is rather disappointing.

Check out the infographic for the 2022 roadmap for Halo Infinite below:

According to the roadmap, Halo Infiniite will run its campaign network co-op test in late August, although it’s worth noting that this is still just a target window. Campaign mission replay is also targeted in late August, while the Forge open beta is targeted for September.

As we enter November, Season 3 officially starts, bringing a new battle pass, maps, modes, sandbox items, narrative events, and QoL patches. One of the more anticipated features of Halo Infinite that has been delayed for quite some time now is the campaign splitscreen co-op, although fans will be disappointed to learn that the timing for this one is still to be determined. It will be interesting to see if we will ever see it go live in Season 3.

Here’s hoping that 343 manages to meet the expectations from the many Halo Infinite fans still waiting for these features of the game to finally launch. As always, stay tuned here at MP1st for the patch notes once these updates for Halo Infinite finally roll out!

Enemy forces are using this storm to their advantage and are taking key points of interest for oil extraction. You and other players on the map are fighting back on these key areas and will work together to extract oil from these locations and take them back from the enemy forces. Complete mission, build nodes and funnel fuel pints to advance the event and reap in-game rewards.
  • New MP Mode: Ground War – Call of Duty: Mobile players can now compete in large-scale infantry and vehicular combat with the new multiplayer mode Ground War. Ground War was a fan-favorite mode introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and will be available on the new Satellite map, as well as Aniya Incursion.
  • New MP Tournament Mode – Will you make the leaderboard? Fight your way to the top in the new multiplayer Tournament mode! Just tap “Tournament” from the main lobby and compete to earn the Epic DL Q33 – Red Sprite and Shadow Blade – Red Sprite! Top players will be listed in a rolling leaderboard.

COD Vanguard New Map “Mayhem” Detailed; Loadouts, Tips & More Revealed

Ahead of the release of Season 3 next week, we now have a detailed rundown of the upcoming COD Vanguard new map called “Mayhem” which will enter the multiplayer rotation once the update comes out! As a teaser for its release, Activision has shared some loadouts, tips and more for Mayhem so that come April 27 you’ll find yourself prepared in this brand-new map.

Mayhem

Mayhem redefines the meaning of chaos with one of the tightest play spaces in Call of Duty history. Prepare to take on gargantuan proportions as you stomp through a small-scale replica of a bustling metropolis, standing nearly half as high as a majority of the central buildings.

The outer props define a 1950s movie set, complete with a UFO, an active volcano, and a monster suit ready for action. For your purposes, however, the battle is set squarely within and immediately around the central city, with an off-set flanking route along the northern path and a traversable ocean path in the south.

Make no mistake: the time to engagement here is miniscule. Whichever direction you choose, you’re bound to collide with an enemy Operator in no time, but there are still some available tricks to catch your opponents off guard. The large pieces of cover throughout give you the chance to avoid taking damage and force the enemy to your position; likewise, there are rapid entry points into the middle from the south, west, and east pathways.

Here are two loadouts that will shine when used in this new COD Vanguard map:

Loadout 1: One-Shot Monster

Primary Weapon: M1916 (free unlock at Tier 15 of the Season Three Battle Pass)

Key Attachments: ZP Custom Barrel, Leather Rear Grip, ZP M502 Custom Stock, Subsonic Ammo Type

Perks: Ghost, Forward Intel, Lightweight

Loadout 2: Monster Slayer

Primary Weapon: Nikita AVT (free unlock at Tier 31 of the Season Three Battle Pass)

Key Attachments: Empress 613 MM Barrel, Recoil Booster Muzzle, Kovalevskaya Folding Stock, Sleight of Hand Proficiency

Perks: Fortified, Tracker, Scavenger

Expecting to run into trouble? Here are ten tips to get you started on Mayhem!

10. Trophy System Out. The new Trophy System Field Upgrade courtesy of Season Three is an essential piece of equipment here. It destroys up to three nearby pieces of equipment and projectiles, and it’s got a fast recharge to boot. Utilize this bad boy to keep you and your team safe when the grenades start flying.

9. Building on Fire. Beware of — and take advantage of — the center cubby marked by the building on fire. It’s a great spot to take out enemy Operators rushing down the main path, but be sure to move on, as it’s easy to get rushed by a vengeance-seeking foe. Be on the lookout for enemies attempting the same when passing by.

8. From the Hip. The more mobile you are, the better your chances of avoiding damage in a fight and the less likely you are to be taken out from behind. Equip your favorite SMG or Shotgun with attachments improving your hip-fire accuracy so you can stay light on your feet when engaging the enemy. Add Lightweight to boost your footwork even further.

7. Nice Try. On either side of the southern bridge are two inlets that can be used to mantle up into the city. They’re great for this purpose, and as a means for taking out pesky enemies attempting to use the bridge as a power position over your teammates traversing the ocean path.

6. Chase Those Skulls. On a map this small, it’s doubly essential that you use every bit of intel available to you. When you see a skull indicating a fallen teammate, you can bet there’s an enemy close by. Chase them down and seek vengeance for your friends.

5. Everyone Off the Set! Whenever enemy aerial Killstreaks become a problem, call your team up to the northern route where you’re best protected from overhead armaments. By convening in a concentrated group, it’ll be harder for the enemy to breach your position while frustrating their attempts to take you out from above. Throw out a Trophy System for added defense, and once the aerial attack is over, fan out and retake control of the map.

4. Counter Spy Plane. Pick the Counter Spy Plane Killstreak to take away the enemy team’s ability to track you on the minimap. While landing four consecutive kills isn’t exactly a walk in the park, it’s more likely to occur on Mayhem where engagements follow one after the other. Equip the Engineer Perk when the enemy attempts to do the same to you.

3. Heavy Recoil? No Problem. With Mayhem’s compact sightlines, recoil isn’t nearly as big an issue as on larger maps. Go ahead and equip those larger caliber rounds and heavy barrels to maximize your damage potential. With enemies this close, a little extra recoil won’t hold you back from landing your shots.

2. Track Your Friends, Too. Being aware of your teammates’ position is just as important as being aware of the enemy’s, at least if you’re planning to survive long enough to call in some Killstreaks. You don’t necessarily have to cluster together, but knowing where you’ve got a buffer nearby will help you make better decisions when determining which route to take.

1. Let Loose Your Inner Monster. For the best monster experience possible, consider forgoing traditional weapons altogether and opt instead for your melee weapon of choice paired with the Ninja Perk. Your enemies won’t know what hit them as you race in and out of view, stomping through the streets, smacking down anyone and everyone in your way.

Mayhem, this new map for the game, arrives with the release of Season 3 of COD Vanguard this April 27. Stay tuned here at MP1st for the patch notes once this update rolls out!

Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone flawless, keep playing! Every win on your still-flawless card will give you a chance at bonus, additional post-match drops of the Adept weapon for that week. Once you lose a game, you will no longer get these adept drops. However, still winning games at 7 wins even on a non-flawless can drop bonus trials engrams, prisms, and even ascendant shards.

Dying Light 2 Sales Reached 5 Million in First Month, Dying Light 1 Now at 20 Million

Dying Light 2 sales have reached an amazing milestone, as it has surpassed the 5 million mark during its first month on sale. The announcement comes from developer Techland, who also announced that the original Dying Light now sits at 20 million copies sold, an amazing feat for a single-player title.

In a press release, Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka states:

“The success of the Dying Light franchise is a great example of the unforgettable experiences we create for our players.”

Strong sales aside, Dying Light 2 still has a ton of content ahead of it; just a few weeks ago, Techland announced that the next big patch for the game is due out at the end of April. This patch will add new and requested features like New Game+ and so much more, and you can check out the full article here.

If you haven’t picked up the game for yourself, give it a try, as it scored an 8.5 in our review, where AJ wrote, “While Dying Light 2 improves on its predecessor in nearly every way, occasional bugs hamper the experience and a few of the gameplay changes are ones I could have done without. Still, if you’re someone who’s been looking forward to the game, nothing that I experienced in my nearly 30 hours with the game was a complete deal breaker, and in fact I enjoyed my time quite a bit. If you’re someone that’s been on the fence, or perhaps mildly interested in Dying Light 2, I definitely think it’s an experience that’s worth your time, and one that stands out amongst the crowded zombie genre. If you were a fan of the original and have been eagerly anticipating Dying Light 2, it’s an easy day one purchase, and one that delivers on every promise that Techland set for it.”

Stay tuned here at MP1st for the full patch notes once that next big update for Dying Light 2 finally releases!

Hell Let Loose Update 12 Preview; Night Maps, Flare Guns, & More

In their latest developer update, Black Matter has shown off a slice of the Hell Let Loose Update 12, giving players a glimpse of what’s to come in the game’s next big patch. The big theme of the update is the night, and as such we will be seeing night maps make their way to the game! Check out the preview below.

Hell Let Loose Update 12 Preview:

Night Maps

The inclusion of new and existing maps with a ‘night’ or low light mood variation will provide even more diversity for the players on the battlefields. Tactics will change from day to night as previously precarious areas for infantry or vehicles to traverse may now seem a more viable option. As per any map in Hell Let Loose communicating and coordinating will remain the paramount assets a team needs to utilize in order to garner a win of the round.

The following maps are to have the low lighting mood effects applied to them in U12.

  • Remagen
  • Foy
  • Hurtgen Forest
  • Purple Heart Lane
  • Kursk

Flare Guns

To accompany the night maps we are in the process of working on animations, texturing and coding for flare guns.

Flare guns were used during WWII in situations where radio silence was important, often used by people to send signals or reveal their position, usually when they were in distress and in need of assistance. For Hell Let Loose the flare gun will primarily be of use to aid in spotting or highlighting of enemy positions. This will be particularly helpful in low light or night operations.

The 3 flare guns to be featured in Update 12 include the German Leuchtpistole 42, the Soviet SPSh-42 and the American AN-M8 which will initially be delegated to the Spotter role of each faction with only a single flare, so it will pay to use this tool wisely. The decision to assign the flare gun to the Spotter role was an important one to us as we feel that access to the weapon greatly increases the attraction of the role, something that Spotter has struggled with in the past. The addition of the flare gun will be a permanent tool for the spotter to use during both daylight and night maps accordingly. Ultimately this decision is not final and will be subject to change pending a number of PTE sessions where we will be discussing the potential for certain design choices.

Along with their ability to visually signal areas of enemy presence to surrounding allies, flares once active will also act as a reconnaissance tool, marking enemy positions within a 50 meter radius over a period of 30 seconds. This action will be similar to the current commander ability of the recon plane in daylight maps.

In addition, the Remagen PTE will be available soon! Take note that you can head over to the game’s official Discord for a chance to experience the map early before Update 12 goes live.

Stay tuned here at MP1st for the full patch notes once this next update for Hell Let Loose goes live!

Syphon Filter PS4 & PS5 Ratings Seen in Korea, Will Likely Join PS Plus Premium Tier

Some great news today for Syphon Filter fans, as several games from the series have had their ratings spotted in Korea for PS4 and PS5. The games include Syphon Filter 1, Syphon Filter 2, Syphon Filter Dark, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, and Syphon Filter Logan’s Shadow.

The report comes from Gematsu (received from a tip by @The_Marmolade on Twitter) and includes a screenshot of the ratings. Check it out below.

The Syphon Filter series were originally developed by Bend Studio, best known nowadays for their work on Days Gone for PS4. Although it’s highly unlikely that these games are remakes, the report from Gematsu mentions that these titles will be included in the upcoming PlayStation Plus Premium tier, set to launch later this June.

The collection of games rated are also by no means complete; Syphon Filter 3 and Syphon Filter The Omega Strain are notably missing, and until Sony makes their offiicial announcement we won’t know if they will be included somehow.

As is the case with unconfirmed reports, take this one with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.
