Battlefield 2042 Season 1 Launches “Early Summer;” DICE Talks Upcoming Updates, Communication Improvements, & More

Remember when we reported that the first season of Battlefield 2042 was rumored to start in March 22? If you thought that was a long wait, well, I have some bad news for you. DICE has today confirmed that the Battlefield 2042 Season 1 launch date is set for “early summer,” with no firm release date just yet.

This confirmation came from DICE and EA today, which I’ll be honest, doesn’t put the game in a positive light. For those unaware, “early summer” in the US means June/July, so yeah, you’ll be waiting a while for the first season of a game that launched in November 2021.

For those who bought the Year 1 Pass as part of the Gold and Ultimate Editions, EA is thanking fans by giving them an exclusive free bundle that will be available in the game’s next title update planned for “mid to late February.” This bundle will include a Specialist skin, weapon and vehicle skins, a melee weapon and Player Card.

In the same community message, the studio has announced how they are improving communications, and what the priority is in terms of upcoming patches.

BF2042 UPCOMING UPDATES

Here’s a snapshot of the features we are bringing into the game as soon as possible:

  • SCOREBOARD – In our next update, we’ll be adding a refreshed in-round Scoreboard alongside further changes we’ve worked on since the holidays. This will be an ongoing evolution from what was shown in the work in progress we shared recently. We have heard your feedback around including two tables and separating your own team versus the enemy, and are working on incorporating that for the release. K/D scoring and End of Round reporting will also be coming in a future update.
  • ALL PLATFORM VOICE COMMUNICATION – The arrival of voice communication (VOIP) is just the start of the improvements we’re bringing to enhance team play and communications.
  • PLAYER PROFILE – Giving you a better overview of your career on the battlefield and how far you have to go for your next unlock.

For team play, you can expect us to incorporate a clearer, tighter squad loop, a refined ping system, and an improved reward loop for when you and your squad play the objective. Gunplay will continue to receive feedback-based improvements too.

Portal remains an integral part of the game and we will continue to expand its tools, modes, and tweak player experience gains. Finally, we have a team analysing Specialists and working on them. We’re not quite ready to talk about actions we’ll be taking, but as soon as we are, you will hear from us.

The studio has talked about a “new feedback loop,” which basically means the studio will be more transparent in their communication with the player base — something that they should have done ever since the game launched.

We’re committed to pushing up the quality of the game, both through our updates, and how rapidly we will respond to critical issues in the live environment. We are also going to clarify the direction we’re taking, and what’s motivating our decisions to bring improvements to the game. So expect to get more insight as we expand our existing feedback loops to involve you, our players, more directly.

Our team has identified several areas we’re targeting for improvements. This is how we will be incorporating your feedback going forward:

  1. We will present specific, major focus areas to you along with our current thinking, detailing where we’re planning to make changes.
  2. We’ll then take the time to observe and listen to the conversations that you go on to have about both the area of concern and our proposals for adjustment.
  3. Later, you’ll hear from us on the topic again but this time your feedback will have been factored into our consideration and guided the decisions made for improvements.

These conversations will be centralised, and accessible here on the Battlefield website, and summarised across our channels.

Later this month, BF2042 players can expect this more open communication to kick off with DICE talking about map design.

We want to outline to you our vision for how we’re going to approach and factor into our new maps enhancements to the gameplay experience, by addressing feedback on openness and lack of cover in key areas.

Big topics like map design will be loud and broadly shared, but for more nuanced areas of the game (such as Portal logic) we may have those conversations on smaller scales. The important part here is that all these conversations will happen publicly, and with everyone invited to take part.

Some of these feedback loops will cover bigger areas than others, and some loops will take longer to complete and realise in the game than others. That’s not an indication of how we might prioritise issues with the game, but a reflection on the nature of game development. Changes to our maps and core gameplay will take time.

Our commitment is to explain our reasoning behind future decisions and to make sure you understand where we stand on your feedback. We want you to see more of the big picture of where we’re going and incorporate more of what we’re already hearing to ensure that our work is meaningful to you.

I have to admit, while the communication thing is good, Battlefield 2042 Season 1 launching way later than expect means the player base will be stuck with the same launch content for at least six months! It’s honestly quite hard to take in that we’re here, but it is, what it is.

MLB The Show 22 Sounds of the Show Exclusive to PS4 Version; FAQ Released

MLB The Show fans out there that were hoping to use their own music in-game via Sounds of the Show may be saddened to hear that the feature will be exclusive to the PS4 yet again this year. Yes, the MLB The Show 22 Sounds of the Show will only be available to the last-gen PlayStation version.

In a new update to the official MLB The Show FAQ, Sony San Diego Studio confirmed that once again Sounds of the Show will only be available on the PS4. This includes exclusion from the PS5 version, as well as the Xbox One & Series and newly announced Switch version.

Sounds of the Show is only available on PlayStation 4 consoles. On all other consoles, players will have 3 slots to set the Walk-Up music, 1 slot to set the Home Run celebration, and 3 slots for Pitcher Entry music. Players will not be able to upload your own music on PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Now, do note that this was the same as last year’s iteration. However, with both the PS5 and Xbox consoles capable of reading music off a USB, one has to wonder what prompted the removal from these versions. MLB The Show 20, for example, supports this feature on the PS4, and although there is no native PS5 release, you can play the game via backwards compatibility with Sounds of the Show being accessible this way on the PS5. This meaning that the functionality does work in some capacity on the PS5, even if it’s via an older release.

Sadly, it seems that users will have to once again use Spotify, though as far as creativity and functionality goes, anyone who has used the feature before know it just isn’t the same.

As for the rest of the FAQ, you can read up on some of major questions answered below, or read the full page.

How do I access both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Versions?

If you want access to both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of MLB The Show 22, please ensure you purchase the MVP Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition on the platform of your choice. The MVP Edition will include compilation disc enabling play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Is the Disc required to play the MVP Edition on the PlayStation 5?

The PlayStation 4 disc must be inserted in your PlayStation 5 console to play the PlayStation 5 version of MLB The Show 22.

If I buy the Standard Edition of MLB the Show 22 on PS4, Xbox One, can I later upgrade the Standard Edition on PS5, and Xbox Series X|S?

If you plan on purchasing the Standard Edition of MLB The Show 22 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and have plans of upgrading to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S version, you will need to purchase the digital edition to take advantage of the $10 USD upgrade offer.

Will I need to download the game if I buy the Cartridge?

Yes. An additional download is required.

Can I create Stadium on the Nintendo Switch?

No. Stadium Creator is only available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Can I play created Stadiums on the Nintendo Switch?

Stadiums created with the Stadium Creator will only be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

MLB The Show 22 will be launching April 5, 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and Nintendo Switch.

Fortnite Update 1.000.055; Out for v19.20, Datamined Content This Feb. 1

PlayStation 5 players rejoice, as Epic Games has now released the Fortnite update 1.000.055 patch this February 1, and this one is for major changes included in the v19.20 patch! To find out what’s new, as well as everything datamined in the latest patch, check out the full release notes below.

Fortnite Update 1.000.055 Patch Notes | Fortnite Update 19.20 Patch Notes:

Fortnite Battle Royale v19.20 introduces a new POI, unvaults a classic weapon (with new twists), reveals Haven’s mask line-up, and more. See below for the details of this update!

Sneak inside Covert Cavern and Seek the Mythic Stinger

Deep inside the mountains north of Camp Cuddle, a high-tech new POI has appeared: Covert Cavern. Navigate its central waterway and harvest materials from its many facilities.

Rumor has it that Covert Cavern is home to a Mythic version of the Stinger SMG, possessing more power than a regular one (and more recoil to match). However, getting your hands on it is no easy feat…

Fortnite Mythic Stinger SMG

Heavy Shotgun Returns with Heavy Updates

The Heavy Shotgun has been unvaulted in a refashioned form for Chapter 3. It’s now single slug, longer-range, and requires more accuracy. Exceptionally reliable and consistent, break out the Heavy for closing the gap or responding to an incoming threat!

Fortnite Heavy Shotgun

Find the Heavy Shotgun on the ground, in normal and Rare Chests, and from Supply Drops. The new Heavy Shotgun is available in all rarities.

Note: The new Heavy Shotgun is unable to penetrate through multiple targets, which the classic Heavy could do. This is a bug that will be fixed in a future game update.

Haven Un-unmasked!

With v19.20, begin unlocking all the masks of Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass Outfit Haven!

How do you unlock Haven’s masks? Collect Feathers in Chests around the Island, then spend your Feathers in the “Haven’s Masks” section of the Battle Pass tab. Each mask has a special Quest for you to complete to make the mask available to redeem. For example, catch fish to unlock cat masks, forage to unlock deer masks, glide to unlock owl masks, and more!

Fortnite Haven Reanimated Cat Mask, Autumn Stag Mask, Tropical Owl Mask, and Snow Hunter Mask

Each mask’s Quest can be found in the “Haven’s Masks” Battle Pass section, and every mask is unlockable all the way ‘til the end of Chapter 3 Season 1. (Please note that players must own the Haven Outfit before starting the Quests.)

Update on XP in Creative

We’re improving the XP Beyond Battle Royale experience! Usually, Creative Islands undergo “calibration” before they begin granting Battle Pass XP from your in-game Accolades (sometimes taking several days). Now with v19.20, if you triggered an Accolade before calibration was complete, you’ll be rewarded with the XP once it’s available!

Fortnite XP

Forecast Update

Tornado and lightning weather events have been added to Team Rumble!

Competitive Notes

  • The Mythic Stinger SMG is not included in competitive playlists. The Heavy Shotgun is included immediately, however.
    • While most new/unvaulted items are given an evaluation period in the wild before being added to competitive playlists, we’ve made an exception with the Heavy Shotgun, as the new Heavy Shotgun was made with higher-skill play in-mind.
  • As our heads-up stated last week, Spider-Man’s Web-Shooters now have 20 shots instead of 80 in competitive playlists. This lower count is to encourage more strategic decisions about when to use the item, while retaining the item’s usefulness as a powerful mobility tool.

Major Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue involving the visual indicator for using a Reboot Van appearing at a greater distance than the sound could be heard.
  • Fixed an issue involving matches sometimes not being recorded during a tournament session and the points earned in those matches becoming lost.
  • Fixed an issue involving Spider-Man’s Web-Shooters dropping from eliminated players with a full stock of uses even if it didn’t have a full stock before the player was eliminated.

That’s about it for the patch.

King of Fighters 15 DLC Character Roadmap Revealed

With just a few short weeks away from release, developers SNK has finally revealed the upcoming King of Fighters 15 DLC character roadmap, which is headlined by none other than Team Garou as the first batch of DLC coming this March!

Here’s the trailer showing off the line-up of DLC fighters coming to the game after it launches!

As one of the most hyped and anticipated fighting game sequels to come to PC and consoles, KOF 15 dares to add some fresh new line-ups and faces into its roster of characters. Here’s the information released by SNK on the first wave of DLC characters coming to the game post launch

A total of 12 DLC characters are planned to release this year after KOF XV launches on Feb 17th, 2022. The first wave of fighters is Team 1 (Team GAROU) which will release in March, with the second wave Team 2 (Team SOUTH TOWN) releasing in May. Team 3 releases sometime during summer with Team 4 releasing in autumn. Each team is comprised of 3 fighters, so the total number added onto the current roster of 39 means players can expect to fight with 51 star-studded characters in KOF XV!

In other news, Leona Heidern’s classic costume is also coming to the game as DLC — much like Terry Bogard’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves outfit which you can check out here.

The King of Fighters 15 will be released worldwide on February 17!

PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan Says People Should “Absolutely Expect More” Acquisitions

With today’s bombastic news that Sony has acquired Bungie in a massive $3.6 billion dollar deal, gamers might be wondering if Sony has anything left in the tank to, or if the company is eyeing more in terms of acquisitions. Apparently, yes, Sony’s interactive entertainment division is not done with purchasing other gaming companies and integrating them into the PlayStation family.

This was confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan. In an interview with GamesIndustry, Ryan confirmed that Sony is indeed making more moves, and even goes as far as to say that people should “absolutely expect more” in terms of acquisitions.

We should absolutely expect more…We are by no means done. With PlayStation, we have a long way to go. I will personally be spending a lot of my time with Pete and the team at Bungie, helping make sure that everything beds down right and that autonomy means autonomy. But elsewhere in the organisation, we have many more moves to make. – SIE CEO Jim Ryan

With Bungie going on record that the studio’s games will remain multi-platform, could Sony’s upcoming acquisitions be on the same boat that it’ll develop games for all gaming platforms, and not just for Sony? That’s one way to recoup your investment faster, though it does kind of defeat of acquiring a studio, no? Then again, I’m not an executive or someone who knows the inner workings on how these financial deals make sense, so what do I know?

Which studio(s) do you want to see Sony acquire next? Does Sony have enough in the bank to snag someone like Take-Two Interactive? Sound off and let us know in the comments.

Apex Legends Mad Maggie Abilities and Info Revealed

With Apex Legends’ upcoming season — Defiance — set to drop this February 8, the big draw here is the new upcoming legend Mad Maggie that’s entering the roster alongside a brand-new game mode. Curious what she can do? Check out the Apex Legends Mad Maggie abilities and other info below!

Apex Legends Mad Maggie Abilities and Info:

MAD MAGGIE

Rebel Warlord

Margaret Kōhere – the woman who would one day be known as Mad Maggie – grew up in one of the dustiest, dullest corners of Salvo without any family to speak of. She was fortunate, then, to meet a kindred chaotic spirit: an adventurous young boy named Walter Fitzroy. The two were inseparable, and in their teenage years, they became mercenaries. Eventually this duo grew into the Cracked Talon – a powerful mercenary operation. It was here she earned her nom de guerre: Mad Maggie. But when rival warlord Sandringham Kelly signed a treaty with the Syndicate, Maggie’s hopes for an independent Salvo were ruined, and Fuse abandoned her for the Games, leaving Maggie very mad indeed…

By sabotaging Fuse’s entrance into the Apex games, Maggie planned to expose how weak the Syndicate was, in hopes it would spark rebellion on Salvo.
Fuse would assemble a team to take down Maggie… only for the pair to have a heart to heart where they came to accept each other’s choices: Fuse will always follow the fun, and Maggie will always follow the cause.

It seemed as though Maggie fell to her death after that exchange…But she was apprehended by the Syndicate, and sentenced to fight to the death in the Apex Games. So she will: just not hers.

Real Name: Margaret Kōhere
Age: 55
Home World: Salvo
Tactical Ability: RIOT DRILL
Passive Ability: WARLORD’S IRE
Ultimate Ability: WRECKING BALL

Mad Maggie seems to be an absolute beast in close-quarters play! Looks like she’ll be the perfect foil for Rampart, no? Once the title update and season is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands New Trailer Explores Graveborn & Spore Warden Classes

With its release date drawing nearer, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands new trailer is revealed by 2K and Gearbox Software exploring Graveborn and Spore Warden classes! Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is set to come out on March 25.

Check out the trailer for Tiny Tina’s Wonderland below.

TOTALLY NEW “NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN” CLASSES are HERE! 😏

R I S E from the grave and unleash devastating dark MAGIC as Graveborn! 💀 AND ( slash OR 💜) call on nature’s NASTIES as a powerful (and pungent) Spore Warden! 🍄

Embark on an epic adventure full of whimsy, wonder, and high-powered weaponry! Bullets, magic, and broadswords collide across this chaotic fantasy world brought to life by the unpredictable Tiny Tina. Roll your own multiclass hero and loot, shoot, slash, and cast your way through outlandish monsters and loot-filled dungeons on a quest to stop the tyrannical Dragon Lord. Everyone’s welcome, so join the party, throw on your adventuring boots, and be Chaotic Great!

Read down below to find out more about the Graveborn and Spore Warden classes in order to become the Fatemaker.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has a deep and highly customizable class system centered around the Multiclass mechanic that lets you mix and match abilities from six unique character skill trees. With Stabbomancer, Brr-Zerker, Spellshot, and Clawbringer revealed previously, the Graveborn and Spore Warden round out the classes available at launch in Wonderlands:

Graveborn

  • Graveborn are Death-touched acolytes who sacrifice health to unleash devastating Dark Magic attacks and become the phantasmal Reaper of Bones, accompanied by their manic Demi-Lich companion.
  • Devotees of Death, Graveborn draw strength from the pain and passing of others, growing in power as they send the souls of their enemies screaming into the void. Where most fear Death, the Graveborn revel in it, and have even made it an ally. Aided by a powerful and ancient demi-lich bound to their service, the Graveborn knows that all power comes at a price paid in blood, whether it be that of their foes or their own…
  • The Graveborn is a master of Kill Skills, Spells, and Dark Magic. They use their Demi-Lich Companion and sacrificial Action Skills to enact suffering upon their enemies, even at the cost of their own life force. Any Spell cast by the Graveborn will cause the Demi-Lich to cast a unique spell of their own, as well as triggering Kill Skills to summon hellish minions.

Spore Warden

  • Spore Wardens are masters of nature who summon tornadoes and launch volleys of arcane arrows into enemy lines alongside their toxin-spewing Mushroom Companion.
  • The Spore Wardens are swift guardians of the Wonderlands’ magical wilderness. Deeply in tune with the natural world, Spore Wardens prowl through forests and bogs alongside their faithful, flatulent Mushroom Companion. Spore Wardens are able to annihilate their foes from afar, showing off their mastery of both conventional firearms and a mystical summoned bow that unleashes a barrage of arcane arrows.
  • Spore Wardens are Gun and Companion specialists. They can significantly boost the abilities of their companions and allies while laying down withering firepower and slowing advancing enemies with Frost tornadoes. Speed and distance are a Spore Warden’s best friends.

Besides the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands new trailer, 2K and Gearbox Software shared new information regarding the game’s new Multiclass system, a new character, including more exciting environments and enemies. If you are interested you can go to their official website for more information.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will launch on March 25 across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and PC via the Epic Games Store exclusively at launch, and on other PC digital storefronts later in 2022. Pre-orders are now available across all launch platforms, you can check it out through this website.

PlayStation Discord Integration Announced & Starts Today, Here’s How to Link Your PSN Account With Discord

Just a few weeks ago, the PlayStation to Discord integration was spotted on the PlayStation Network backend, which suggested that it was incoming. Well, that day is today, as Discord has officially announced it, as well as provide a quick tutorial on how to do it. Note that Sony says that integration is being rolled out “gradually,” so be patient if it doesn’t work smoothly right away.

Those who link their PSN profile with Discord can display their PS4 and/or PS5 game activity in their user profile!

How to Link PlayStation Account With Discord:

To connect your Discord account to your PlayStation Network account, open up Discord and head into User Settings > Connections on either desktop or web. On mobile, go to User Settings > Connections.

On this page, you’ll see a newly-added PlayStation icon. Choose that, and you’re already on your way!

From there, a browser window to authorize from your PlayStation account will pop up. Use it to sign in to your account on the login page and boom: your PlayStation Network account is all connected. Simple, right?

Once connected, two new options will appear for your PlayStation Network account: “Display on Profile” and “Display PlayStation Network as your status.” While displaying your PlayStation online ID is all fine and dandy, showing your game activity is the real deal and will inspire your friends to join along for the ride.

Now, the game you’re currently playing on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console will be happily displayed in your user profile for all your friends and community members to see!

Do note that on your PSN Privacy Settings, your “PSN Online Status” and “Now Playing” visibility must be set to “Anyone” in order for your status to be visible on Discord. Take a peek at PlayStation’s article on “How to change privacy settings on PlayStation Network” in case you may have adjusted them before.

If you don’t see the option just yet, Discord has announced the following:

Don’t see the option quite yet? PlayStation Network account connection is gradually rolling out to U.S. Discord users with additional countries soon to follow — check back later in User Settings > Connections if it’s not there for you at the moment.

The ability to connect your Discord account with your PSN account is out today, and will be available on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and the web app.

First up is the reveal trailer for the cover athlete of MLB The Show 2022.

Shohei Ohtani’s 2021 season was one for the ages. Hitting 46 home runs, 100 RBI’s, and stealing 26 bases while also having a 9-2 record on the mound with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts. It has been said, “The man on top of the mountain didn’t fall there.” Ohtani might seem like an overnight success here in the US but he’s been climbing the impossible mountain since his teenage years attending Hanamaki Higashi High School in Japan.

After having one of the greatest seasons in the history of Major League Baseball, Shohei Ohtani was really the only obvious choice to grace the cover of MLB The Show 22.

Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void Railgunner Introduced in New Trailer

Hopoo Games has revealed more of their upcoming DLC, as the Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void new trailer introduces the Railgunner, the latest Survivor in the action title! Check out the trailer below as well as details on Railgunner as she makes her appearance on Risk of Rain 2.

Here is a rundown of Railgunner’s skills in Risk of Rain 2:

  • Her primary weapon, the M99 Sniper, puts players in her perspective to look down the scope and target enemy Weak Points. By hitting these Weak Points, this long-ranged powerhouse deals a devastating 1,000% damage with a guaranteed Critical Strike.
    • Railgunner’s attacks cannot randomly crit like other Survivors, but all Critical Strike Chance gained with items is converted into additional Critical Strike Damage.
    • Firing with the M99 Sniper triggers Railgunner’s Active Reload bar. By perfectly timing a reload, players can increase the pace of their shots and deal an extra +500% base damage on the next shot.
  • When enemies get up close, Railgunner’s XQR Smart Round System fires off rapid smart rounds that keep nearby enemies at bay and deal 100% damage.
  • Railgunner’s Concussion Devices create a gravity-propelled blast zone that pushes away anything within range. Players can use Concussion Devices to launch Railgunner rapidly away from enemies, creating enough space between her and her foes to line up the killing shot, or to spread out groups of monsters, separating them for targeted snipes.
  • Railgunner’s special ability, Supercharge, overloads her railgun, shelling out 4,000% damage and 150% Weak Point damage. While Supercharge’s explosive blast can wipe out tougher enemies with the right items, that power comes at a cost: after firing, Railgunner’s weapons must recharge, leaving her unable to attack for five seconds and forcing players to rely on Railgunner’s Concussion Devices alone to keep away from harm.
  • Escape Petrichor V with Railgunner to unlock alternative abilities and an alternative skin.

Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void launches on Steam on March 1, 2022 for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $15 USD, with the console release coming in Q2 of 2022.
