Diablo 2 Resurrected Cannot Be Played Offline If You Fail to Login Online Once in 30 Days

Here’s an interesting turn of events: it seems that those who own Diablo 2 Resurrected, if you don’t log in (online) at least once in 30 days, you cannot play it offline regardless of platform.

This was brought to our attention by Twitter user DoesItPlay1, who tweeted that this can be removed with hacks, and servers no real purpose.

This can’t possibly be real, right? Well, our own Jimmy Lara who played Diablo 2 Resurrected online before (and haven’t played it in quite a while), tried it just now, and yep, we were greeted by that authentication message you see above. It sucks, but it is the real deal, and is one of the few games that has an online check-in DRM (digital rights management) built in.

Given how much bad publicity Activision and Blizzard Entertainment has been in the past few months, this is probably the last thing gamers want to see from the developers. While I understand that this is a way to combat piracy, why is it activated on consoles too? Or better yet, wasn’t there a better way of implementing it without restricting players who bought it legitimately?

Speaking of Diablo 2 Resurrected, go check out the upcoming changes and new stuff in patch 2.4 right here.

In case you haven’t picked the game up yet, it is a solid game despite the this little snag. We gave it an impressive 9/10, and said, “Despite Blizzard’s recent track record of poor decisions and mishandling of the Warcraft 3 remake, in the case of Diablo 2 Resurrected, Blizzard shows they’re able to deliver on a solid remaster that improves the visuals and effects of the game, while still maintaining its classic charms.”

Battlefield 2042 Magic Mike, Green Light Player Cards Spotted

It looks like more Player Cards are coming to Battlefield 2042 soon! From what was unearthed, the Battlefield 2042 Magic Mike, and Green Light Player Cards were spotted in the game.

Spotted by Battlefield Wiki, the Battlefield 2042 Magic Mike Player Card and tag features a top hat, and was shown to builds that streamers were given access to prior to the game’s offical launch. This build also showed unreleased weapon skins, badges, Player Cards and more (more on unreleased gun charms and more here).

It is tagged as an “exclusive,” and we’re not certain whether this will be released as part of an upcoming event, a new weekly mission, or something similar. Heck, it might never be released at all, even. Alongside that, there’s also a “Green Light” unreleased Player Card spotted, which could be related to the new Featured Experience mode in Battlefield Portal that’s inspired by the Squid Game’s Red Light, Green Light game.

Check out the images of the unreleased Player Cards in the gallery below:

Again, there is no guarantee that we’ll see these Player Cards make their way into the game. Hopefully they do, as the game is in dire need of anything new to liven the player base up.

Battlefield Portal Dev Admits It’s Taking Them “Too Long” to Fix XP & Tier Progression, Rush & Other Objectives in Discussion Phase

Hate how DICE and Ripple Effect Studios changed how Battlefield Portal handles XP? While everyone and their mother assumed that some players would use BF Portal to boose XP, what we didn’t count on was DICE and Ripple Effect Studios’ countermove of just nerfing XP gain to the ground.

Thankully, Ripple Effect, the studio behind Battlefield Portal, has admitted that it needs to be changed. Over on Twitter, Ripple Effect Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe admitted that players are not wrong, and that it’s taking the studio “too long” to address the XP and Tier 1 progression BF Portal.

Continuing the communication regarding Portal, Wiebe also answered a fan who asked whether the rule editor will be added to Rush or other objective-based modes. Unfortunately, it’s more than just flipping a switch, though Wiebe confirms it is in the discussion phase.

As for whether Battlefield 2042 Rush can get Portal maps, that is something Ripple Effect can “look into.”

Hopefully, Ripple Effect can do fix the Battlefield Portal XP issue since this is what most players are griping about the mode. Speaking of Portal, DICE added new modes to the Featured Experiences this past week! While Wiebke isn’t a community manager or PR rep at Ripple Effect, we’re digging how he’s communicating with the community. Fortunately, there is an “update” due next week. We don’t know whether this meant a game update (patch) or an update on what’s being done to Portal. Either way, we’ll keep our readers update on what’s shared.

Report: WWE 2K22 Cover Leaks, Features Rey Mysterio

It appears the WWE 2K22 cover has been leaked ahead of the Royal Rumble event happening later this month. As expected, Rey Mysterio is the cover star for the game.

We know 2K Games is showing more about the WWE 2K22 at the 2022 Royal Rumble, but it looks like Nils Ahrensmeier from TechnikNews has leaked the cover a few weeks early. There is both a Deluxe Edition cover and a standard cover. Both versions will have different pictures of Rey Mysterio.

This seems like the legit cover for the game considering Rey Mysterio has a 2K Showcase dedicated to him. Not to mention all of the previous promotional material that has been released to date has heavily featured the popular WWE Superstar. Rey Mysterio is also one of the more recognized wrestlers on the WWE roster as he’s a former World Champion and the 2006 Royal Rumble winner.

WWE 2K22 will be released in March 2022. A release date should be announced very soon.

Battlefield 2042 Spotlights DICE’s Communication Problem

It’s the weekend, and we’re about done with the second week of the new year. Battlefield 2042 players looking for news regarding the game’s roadmap, first season, and info on bug fixes are left in the dark. This doesn’t look well for a game already hemorraging players at an insane rate. So, the question is: what’s happening, DICE?

Believe it or not, it hasn’t always been this way. For reference, the last Battlefield game released before BF2042 was Battlefield V, and some players might not believe it now, but DICE was excellent in communicating upcoming fixes, content, and just what the heck was going on to make the game better.

Battlefield 2042 Update 1.05

When Battlefield V was released in November of 2018, it didn’t exactly set the multiplayer shooter world on fire (same as Battlefield 2042). However, DICE kept on working on it until it was appreciated by the community (somewhat). But the big difference between BFV and BF2042 is that DICE communicated with the player base.

EA’s Director of Communications for Shooters has commented that the devs are away on holidays, which is one of the reasons why the studio has been silent. Mind, I can’t find fault with that; devs are fine taking a break. What’s not fine is, the week is over, and we still have not heard a thing. Compare this to Battlefield V, DICE not only apologized for the silence in communications, but we got patch notes for the upcoming update, a preview of what’s coming the following week, and more interaction regarding a bunch of issues — all within the same time frame (first two weeks of the new year). Heck, the studio even issued a letter apologizing for the BFV Coins issues, which is outside of the silence apology. Again, ALL these we got within the first 15 days of 2019! So what happened with Battlefield 2042?

Is it because of the personnel change regarding who handles communications for Battlefield 2042 now? Maybe. But the thing is, some of the people who were communicating with the BFV player base then are still with the EA/DICE. By my count, DICE and the Battlefield franchise has four community managers/communications people on-board, but yet, here we are, clawing at every bit of info that’s made available via official channels.

So, what happens now? I’m hoping that we’ll hear something this coming week. Maybe it’s a preview of the upcoming fixes, plans for new content, when the first season will start? Anything, really. Anything is better than being silent. With DICE’s silence, the subreddit has been boiling with anger, confusion, regret, and toxicity that it’s even being threatened by the mods to be shutdown if it doesn’t stop.

Mind, players aren’t asking DICE to lay everything on the table right now. All they (we) want is for the studio to communicate. Communicate what changes are being made, what bugs are being prioritized, what content roll out is planned. Basically, anything except the canned tweets that we’ve been getting that seems to highlight just how out of touch the studio’s communications people are.

DICE, tell us what’s coming. tell us what can be fixed, what can’t, and what’s out of your reach. Anything is better than what we have now, and the Battlefield community deservers better. Not every franchise gets a second or third chance, and the Battlefield franchise is in danger of losing any chances of getting redemption; the last thing the franchise needs is for its communications people to remain quiet. I mean, they are being paid to communicate to the community and the player base, right? Now it’s needed more than ever.

Next Battlefield 2042 Update

Amid all the rubble, there is a silver lining. Respawn boss Vince Zampella has been roped in to be the new head of the Battlefield franchise. Zampella is no stranger to shooters, as he’s behind some of the most iconic ones in history. In case you didn’t know, Zampella (along with Jason West) kickstarted this entire modern multiplayer shooter thing with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Before that, they were the heads of 2015 Inc., which was the studio that worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Now, Zampella’s studio is behind the super-successful Apex Legends, and are the devs behind the excellent Titanfall franchise. If there is anyone at EA who can turn things around for Battlefield, it’s Zampella & Co. Another person who gives us a little ray of sunshine right now is Halo franchise co-creator Marcus Lehto who has been tasked to be the Narrative Director of the Battlefield franchise. While Lehto is relatively new to the franchise, he has been very vocal on Twitter, and is aware of the issues and frustrations of players.

What’s kind of shocking here is, Activision has acknowledged the issues players have with a Call of Duty Vanguard, and COD Warzone. Inarguably, the Call of Duty brand is bigger than the Battlefield franchise. Not only that, but when it comes to missteps in terms of game releases, Activision hasn’t released as many disappointments as EA has. Not cutting Activision any slack here since Warzone’s issues should have been fixed last year, but at least they communicated to their player base already — something Battlefield fans are thirsting for right now.

Will Zampella and Lehto be enough to “save” the Battlefield brand? Nope. They’ll need the help of DICE Sweden for that. Here’s to hoping that DICE themselves are aware of what’s happening and working on something. But even before they release that, let’s hope that they realize that they need to communicate to players now, and not later, since at this point communication is key, and they better do before the player base stops caring and moves on.

Halo Xbox 360 Online Servers Have Been Discontinued

After nearly 17 years in service, Microsoft has announced that Halo Xbox 360 servers have been discontinued, affecting several Halo games on the console. While the affected games will still be playable for the time being, matchmaking and several other online components have been taken down forever.

As of the official blog post, here are the games affected on the Halo Xbox 360 servers closure:

  • Halo: Reach
  • Halo 4
  • Halo 3
  • Halo 3: ODST
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
  • Spartan Assault
  • Halo Wars

Microsoft also revealed the features that will still be available for the games listed:

  • Halo: Reach – Campaign, Firefight, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, Local Area Networking (LAN), Online squads, support will vary for Achievements
  • Halo 4 – Campaign, Spartan ops, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, support will vary for Achievements.
  • Halo 3 – Campaign, Custom games, Forge, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, Service record, Player customization, support will vary for Achievements.
  • Halo 3: ODST – Campaign, Firefight, Splitscreen, LAN, Online squads, Service record, and Player customization.
  • Halo: CE Anniversary – Campaign, Splitscreen and LAN
  • Halo: Spartan Assault – Campaign, Online Squads, and Matchmaking
  • Halo Wars – Campaign, Online Squads, and Matchmaking

Essentially, all of the mainline Halo titles will no longer be playable in online competitive modes, although some custom games can still be played. To find out all the details on the closure of the servers, check out the full blog here.

In case you missed it, 343 recently posted a blog on Halo Infinite and the measures the studio are taking to address the issues within Big Team Battle mode, and you can read more on that here.

Check out our review for Halo Infinite here, where AJ wrote, “All in all, Halo Infinite is a worthy entry to this legendary franchise. That is an achievement by itself. But what I really appreciated is the fact that 343 took risks. These risks are things that could have completely soured the experience and turned away even the most diehard fans of the franchise. In the end though, those risks paid off. Infinite is in my opinion, 343’s best Halo title yet, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it goes from here.”

Serving as a prequel and companion piece to Naught Dog’s critically acclaimed Uncharted video game series, the live-action Uncharted film sees Tom Holland portraying a young Nathan Drake — who is joined by Mark Wahlberg’s Sully as they embark on a journey that involves the “greatest treasure never found”.

Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.

The Uncharted movie will hit theaters on February 18. Check out the latest theatrical trailer here.

God of War PC Was in Development for 2 Years, PlayStation Studios Pushed for Release

Santa Monica Studio has released some details with the re-release of one of their most iconic titles with God of War now available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Apparently, the port was developed in two years, with PlayStation Studios pushing for the release and wanting to make their games available to a wider audience.

In an interview with Game Informer, Santa Monica Creative Director Cory Balrog explained that they had put so much extra effort to bring the once PlayStation-exclusive title to the PC.

I think it was the collective of studios all over saying this is a really good idea. We should be looking into this. Eventually, I think it reached that tipping point. When we had sent so many suggestion box suggestions that they were like, “I’m tired of hearing all this. Fine, we’ll do this.” It’s a process. We’re still figuring it out as a company and as individual studios how to do this and what the process and strategy will be.

As one of the biggest games released in 2018 and winning multiple awards including Game of the Year, God of War is a continuation of the story of Kratos. The former Spartan warrior now lives in the realm of the Norse Gods and raises a son named Atreus. The developers worked on the port for two years, adding new features such as high fidelity graphics and ultra widescreen support while also allowing players to customize their control setup or even play with a mouse and keyboard if they wish.

If you’re planning to get God of War for PC, take note of the download size for the game here.

Chyna’s Twitter Pushing for Inclusion in WWE 2K22 Roster

While we have to wait for a few more weeks until the full WWE 2K22 roster is revealed, many fans are still wanting to know who made the cut. There is one current WWE Hall of Fame inductee that fans are hoping will be included in the game’s final roster count, and that is Chyna (real nameJoan Marie Laurer).

Even though Chyna passed away a few years ago, she continues to be one of the most recognized female WWE wrestlers of all-time. The official Chyna Twitter page is now campaigning for her to be included in the main WWE 2K22 roster. You can read the tweet posted down below.

The last two times that Chyna was included in the video games were 2019’s release of WWE 2K20 and 2020’s WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Hopefully she can be in the main game, or she could be added later as DLC.

As of right now, WWE 2K22 isn’t coming out until March 2022. Later this month we are expecting to hear more news about the game during January’s Royal Rumble event.

Marvel’s Avengers Next Update Out Next Week Says Crystal Dynamics

While we’re just two weeks in the new year, Crystal Dynamics is already preparing the Marvel’s Avengers next update which is due sometime next week! For those keeping count, this is the second title update the game has gotten this first month of 2022, though the one released in January 6 was mostly for backend fixes.

This was confirmed by a Crystal Dynamics PR rep over on Twitch:

Unfortunately, there is no confirmation what exactly this patch will contain and what issues it will fix. The latest title update which included gameplay tweaks was back in December 14, and had the following list of known issues that are being investigated by the dev team:

  • In Discordant Sound Raid, the bubble in the first puzzle area sometimes doesn’t appear, blocking progress.
  • On rare occasions, players may get stuck after completing the campaign.
  • Players may load into unintended areas in the Discordant Sound Raid.
  • Performance issues on PS4/PS5.

Once more details are revealed, we’ll let our readers know.

Thanks, Highruler!

Regardless if you liked the first Dying Light or not, it’s hard to argue agains the fact that Techland did an amazing job supporting the game post-launch. Today, the studio gave a guarantee (sort of) that Dying Light 2 post-launch support will last for at least five years!

This announcement was made over on Twitter, where the studio mentioned that there will be new stories, locations and more incoming after the game has released.

Want to know what will happen AFTER the premiere? We guarantee to expand the world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human for at least 5 years post launch with new stories, locations, in-game events and all the fun stuff you love!

That’s not only the big Dying Light 2 news that’s out today. Just yesterday, Techland showed us our first look at last-gen gameplay and even a comparison on how the PS4 version looked against the PS5. Over on the game’s official Discord channel, Techland’s “Uncy” confirmed that the footage yesterday was PS4, and that we’ll be getting Xbox One gameplay footage later this month.

That’s definitely good news for those considering getting the game on Microsoft’s last-gen platform. Of course, given how the studio also confirmed that cross-gen gaming and crossplay won’t be available at launch, players will want to make sure which platform they get the game on.

Dying Light 2 will be released this February 4, 2022 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
