Report: Rainbow Six Extraction Release Date Leaked, Coming January 20, 2022

After initially delaying the game to 2022, it would appear that Ubisoft has somehow leaked the Rainbow Six Extraction release date. The next mainline game in the Rainbow Six series, it will be coming soon to PC and consoles in a different yet similar vein to its predecessor, Rainbow Six Siege.

The leak comes from the Rainbow Six Extraction release date page, where VGC first reported that it has been updated to show a January 20 release date. At the time of this writing, the page has been reverted back to its original January release window, but the URL slug still shows the January 20 date (https://news.ubisoft.com/en-gb/article/5wY6rSmd8997xcwIDJh6Gg/rainbow-six-extraction-unleashes-tactical-coop-action-on-january-20).

In case you missed it, Rainbow Six Extraction was one of two games that were delayed a couple of months back by Ubisoft, in addition to Rider’s Republic. The developer’s have shared their thoughts on the delay previously, stating that:

Our ambition with Rainbow Six Extraction is to deliver a full-fledged AAA experience that changes the way you play and think about cooperative games. With unique features like Missing In Action or The Sprawl, every mission is set to be a tense and challenging experience in which you’ll lead the elite operators of Rainbow Six in a fight against a lethal and evolving alien threat.

We are embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022. We are confident this will ensure Rainbow Six Extraction is the immersive, cooperative, and thrilling experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire to play.

We look forward to sharing more with you very soon!

World War Z Update 1.28 Patch Notes; Lists Vanguard, Weapon Changes & More This October 18

Saber Interactive has released the World War Z update 1.28 patch this October 18, and this brings quite a number of changes to the multiplayer game. The Vanguard perks have been tweaked, as well as adjustments to weapons, first-person mode and more! Read on for the full patch notes.

World War Z Update 1.28 Patch Notes:

Here’s what the devs shared today:

That’s quite a lot of changes. If you haven’t bought the game yet, you might want to pick it up now, as the Aftermath bundle adds quite a bit of content. Speaking of which, our review can be read here, where we state, “All in all, WWZ: Aftermath is a solid value for the $40 asking price. There is plenty to keep you busy here, and I found the gameplay to be quite enjoyable. The progression is deep, and the various classes and skill trees give you meaningful ways to change things up each run. While the first-person perspective has been implemented well, it’s hard to turn down the added visibility that a third-person camera offers you, and a true ADS mechanic is sorely lacking. If you’re looking to shoot some zombies in the face with your friends without thinking too much about it though, Aftermath should be right up your alley.”

Diablo 2 Resurrected Update 1.006 Released This October 18

Blizzard Entertainment has released the Diablo 2 Resurrected update 1.006 October 18 patch, and this is to add login queue indicators for high traffic periods, and other stuff related to the server issues the game has been suffering the past week. PC players have gotten this patch a week ago, but console gamers are just getting it now.

Diablo 2 Resurrected Update 1.006 Patch Notes | Diablo 2 Resurrected Update 10.15 Patch Notes:

GENERAL

  • We have implemented a Login Queue for high traffic periods. This queue will pop up after the title screen when opening up the game. The queue will only appear during high traffic windows.
  • Players will be shown a number on where they are in queue.
  • Players will have the option of exiting the queue and playing offline immediately if they wish by hitting “Escape” on the queue prompt.
  • We should note that the higher your queue number appears, the slower the number will refresh in the prompt. The number is still refreshing in the background, so we do not recommend leaving queue as this will create further delays to you entering the game during these high traffic windows.

For more on server issues and what’s causing it, head on here for Blizzard’s detailed explanation.

Battlefield 2042: Combat Roll Confirmed Out, Strafe Sliding Input Being Added & Vaulting Explained

One of the new things added to Battlefield’s movement system in Battlefield V was the combat roll where players rolled out after a high fall (not high enough to kill you), which had its own animation. If you’re hoping that there’s an equivalent in Battlefield 2042, and thought the beta just didn’t implement it, well,  DICE has confirmed that there is no Battlefield 2042 combat roll feature, nor is it planned to be in the game at this time.

Over on a Reddit thread where it was pointed out that DICE mentioned that they were building on BFV’s movement for BF2042, DICE Gameplay Engineer Niels Stoelinga posting as @lytlb1t answered a few fan questions regarding Battlefield 2042’s vaulting differences, and loads more.

On combat roll being not being implemented:

Reduced FOV (field of view) effect:

On vaulting animation, and how the vault system is an improved version of Battlefield V’s:

Confirmation that strafe input to sliding is being added:

Another DICE developer has talked about the movement and sprint speed in the beta, and even compared it to past Battlefield games, which you can read about here. Speaking of the BF2042 beta, don’t forget that this coming week, DICE will talk about the feedback they received from gamers.

Battlefield 2042 will be released this November 19 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Diablo 2 Server Issues Caused by Legacy Code, Visual for Queue Incoming for Consoles

If you’ve been playing (or trying to) Diablo 2 Resurrected these past few weeks, you’re probably well aware of all the server related issues going on. While Blizzard has published a number of updates in hopes of resolving the issues, it would appear that some coding that was brought over from the original game may, in fact, be the culprit as Blizzard explains the reasoning behind Diablo 2 server issues, all while outlining their plans to fix it.

In a statement issued by Blizzard’s Community Manager, the team details the reasoning behind Diablo 2 server issues, stating that some of the “legacy code” from the original 2000 release of Diablo 2 isn’t able to keep up with today’s modern online.

In staying true to the original game, we kept a lot of legacy code. However, one legacy service in particular is struggling to keep up with modern player behavior.

This service, with some upgrades from the original, handles critical pieces of game functionality, namely game creation/joining, updating/reading/filtering game lists, verifying game server health, and reading characters from the database to ensure your character can participate in whatever it is you’re filtering for. Importantly, this service is a singleton, which means we can only run one instance of it in order to ensure all players are seeing the most up-to-date and correct game list at all times. We did optimize this service in many ways to conform to more modern technology, but as we previously mentioned, a lot of our issues stem from game creation.

We mention “modern player behavior” because it’s an interesting point to think about. In 2001, there wasn’t nearly as much content on the internet around how to play Diablo II “correctly” (Baal runs for XP, Pindleskin/Ancient Sewers/etc for magic find, etc). Today, however, a new player can look up any number of amazing content creators who can teach them how to play the game in different ways, many of them including lots of database load in the form of creating, loading, and destroying games in quick succession. Though we did foresee this–with players making fresh characters on fresh servers, working hard to get their magic-finding items–we vastly underestimated the scope we derived from beta testing.

Additionally, overall, we were saving too often to the global database: There is no need to do this as often as we were. We should really be saving you to the regional database, and only saving you to the global database when we need to unlock you–this is one of the mitigations we have put in place. Right now we are writing code to change how we do this entirely, so we will almost never be saving to the global database, which will significantly reduce the load on that server, but that is an architecture redesign which will take some time to build, test, then implement.

With this information now known to Blizzard, the team has now put into motion work towards improving server loads, including rate limiting, and breaking functions into smaller services.

Rate limiting: We are limiting the number of operations to the database around creating and joining games, and we know this is being felt by a lot of you. For example, for those of you doing Pindleskin runs, you’ll be in and out of a game and creating a new one within 20 seconds. In this case, you will be rate limited at a point. When this occurs, the error message will say there is an issue communicating with game servers: this is not an indicator that game servers are down in this particular instance, it just means you have been rate limited to reduce load temporarily on the database, in the interest of keeping the game running. We can assure you this is just mitigation for now–we do not see this as a long-term fix.

Login Queue Creation: This past weekend was a series of problems, not the same problem over and over again. Due to a revitalized playerbase, the addition of multiple platforms, and other problems associated with scaling, we may continue to run into small problems. To diagnose and address them swiftly, we need to make sure the “herding”–large numbers of players logging in simultaneously–stops. To address this, we have people working on a login queue, much like you may have experienced in World of Warcraft. This will keep the population at the safe level we have at the time, so we can monitor where the system is straining and address it before it brings the game down completely. Each time we fix a strain, we’ll be able to increase the population caps. This login queue has already been partially implemented on the backend (right now, it looks like a failed authentication in the client) and should be fully deployed in the coming days on PC, with console to follow after.

Breaking out critical pieces of functionality into smaller services: This work is both partially in progress for things we can tackle in less than a day (some have been completed already this week) and also planned for larger projects, like new microservices (for example, a GameList service that is only responsible for providing the game list to players). Once critical functionality has been broken down, we can look into scaling up our game management services, which will reduce the amount of load.

We have people working incredibly hard to manage incidents in real-time, diagnosing issues, and implementing fixes–not just on the D2R team, but across Blizzard. This game means so much to all of us. A lot of us on the team are lifelong D2 players–we played during its initial launch back in 2000, some are part of the modding community, and so on. We can assure you that we will keep working until the game experience feels good to us not only as developers, but as players and members of the community ourselves.

For PC players, the login queue visual was implemented in last Friday’s update. For console players, you can fully expect to see this implemented sometime this week, as the patch is making its way through certification.

There was a PC patch on Friday that added in a queue visual onto the game while we started queueing players during high traffic windows.

We noted that consoles would have this within a week. It’s looking like it will be the first half once it gets through all the first party certifications. As of now, console is kind of flying blind and it unfortunately is leading to timeouts for users which knocks them into offline. There are moments where players are getting in as we have a team around the clock turning on the faucets for console players to feed online but they are difficult windows before the timeouts.

This weekend has led to an even more massive increase in players connecting into one specific region and is thus causing players to move to other regions and create queues there. Again, we have a team on this 24/7 and calls going on 24/7 as they work on troubleshooting and keeping things going with the databases.

It’s not ideal. I know as even I have had difficulty playing myself and I’m hoping we can have a further update for you all here soon. Again, apologies on this everyone.

Hopefully the Diablo 2 server issues are resolved sooner rather than later, though given the nature of the issues, we don’t expect a definite fix anytime soon. Let’s hope that’s not the case as many are still struggling to play the game for the last few weeks.

Resident Evil Village Update 1.002 Released This October 17

Capcom has released the Resident Evil Village update 1.002 patch this October 17, and this oddly enough, seems only for next-gen. We’re still checking, but after numerous tries, the PS4 version is still at version 1.01.

Resident Evil Village Update 1.002 Patch Notes:

Capcom has not released any patch notes just yet, unfortunately. However, could this patch be somehow connected to the Halloween website Capcom has launched for the franchise to mark its 25th anniversary? We wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

We’re on the lookout for the official patch notes. Same as always, if you spot any gameplay-related changes, or technical fixes brought on by the patch, leave a comment below to let us know. If you see “patch notes” without a proper source or from a Capcom dev/website and the like, please don’t believe or spread them since we don’t want to spread false info. The last major patch for the game was for the PC version, which was for performance fixes.

If you haven’t played Resident Evil Village, go check out our review where we state, “It feels like a true next-gen experience, even on the older systems. Plenty to love about Village, and with multiple playthroughs under my belt, I just don’t see how anyone can skip out on this gem. To me, this feels like the evolutionary step that Resident Evil 2 took from the first game, only for Resident Evil 7. The first-person perspective is proven, and here to stay for the long haul.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Update 1.005 Swings Out This October 17

Insomniac Games has released the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered update 1.005 this October 17 for the PS5! This is an unannounced title update, so don’t expect any new content, or anything major.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Update 1.005 Patch Notes:

Insomniac Games has not released the official patch notes just yet.

For reference, we’ve included the patch notes for the last two title updates for the game.

Version 1.003 Release Notes

While we didn’t review the remaster on PS5, our review of the base game speaks very highly of it, as our review gave it a spectacular 9.5/10 and said the following: “It’s surprising that Insomniac’s first foray into the superhero video game scene is this ambitious, and what’s even more surprising is, the studio managed to shatter all expectations. Make no mistake, this Spider-Man game is one mean action game even without the license, though it uses it to great effect, which puts the game from “good” to “excellent” all in one go. Simply put, Marvel’s Spider-Man is one neighborhood you’ll want to swing by, and be a part of.”

Battlefield 2042 Movement & Sprint Speed Comparison to Past BF Games Revealed; Being Able to Grab Ledges Confirmed

If you played the Battlefield 2042 beta for quite some time, chances are, you have an opinion regarding the Battlefield 2042 movement and sprint speed, and how it worked compared to past Battlefield games. While the infantry movement felt way faster in the beta compared to the previous entries in the series, it seems that’s not exactly the case.

Over on Twitter, Core Gameplay Designer of Battlefield Florian Le Bihan gave the numerical values of the sprint speed, and other movement data, and it might surprise you. We’ve compiled Le Bihan’s tweets into one complete read so it’s easier to digest.

The BF2042 traversal sprint is just a tad under that, it’s 7.25m/s which is just a bit faster than the Sprint perk from BF3/BF4 that took the sprint speed to 7.15m/s that you didn’t reference here 🙂

6.5m/s was sprint speed for BF3 and BF4, BF Hardline was at 6.75m/s and I don’t remember if there was a sprint perk that allows to get to something higher than that like BF3/4

Oh yeah and BF2042 default sprint speed is also 6.5m/s

Sprint was exactly the same in BF3 when it comes to speed and accelerations, however the regular walk/run accelerations were faster (but top speed was the same)

75% slower sprint out time, jumping and sliding are barely affected (meaning the extra distance you can get for a jump or the extra acceleration you get going into a slide is not significant)

Here’s a comparison on movement speed for the modern era Battlefield games:

Default | Tactical
Battlefield 3/4: 6.5m/s | 7.15m/s
Battlefield Hardline: 6.75m/s
Battlefield 2042: 6.5m/s | 7.25m/s

While not tied to sprint speed, Le Bihan also confirmed that grabbing ledges (which was in Battlefield V) is also available in the game, and what’s more, players will even be able to grab onto ledges that are higher now — something that wasn’t available in Battlefield V.

This is in the game though, you can actually grab ledges above you now which was not possible in BF5. The maximum height to vault over obstacles is also the same as BF5, no change there.

Vault height is 2.4m (same as BFV) – Containers are much higher than that.

If you know people who are complaining about the movement being too fast, might be best to show them this, to let them know that it has stayed relatively the same.

Are you happy with how the Battlefield 2042 movement and sprint speed was in the beta, or do you want it changed? Let us know down in the comments below.
