Graphics Improvements
Lighting Falloff
We’ve updated our lighting volumes to use a different kind of falloff. Moving from our previous quadratic light falloff to a (mostly) linear falloff model softens how “hot” the center of the lighting volume is, and reduces how sharply the light diminishes over range. The quadratic falloff we were using prior to this update made it more difficult (and expensive) to light interior spaces, as we needed to use more, smaller lights with higher intensities to fill the volume of space. The new falloff technique provides us with more control over lighting environments in the future, and softens the current lighting in-game to balance out the harsh extremes.

New Lighting in Menus
We’ve started using new lighting in the character select, character create, infantry, and vehicle loadout screens that provides more depth to our character models (and looks better all around.)

Shadow Quality
This is more of a fix than an update. We identified a change from a few years ago that essentially knocked every shadow quality level down by one. “Ultra” shadows, as an example, weren’t really the intended Ultra shadows, and it was never reachable in the in-game settings menu, but was still possible to set in the UserOptions.ini. With this update, players’ shadows will be bumped up a level, so you may need to adjust your shadow quality settings again once you are in-game.

Zones and Alerts
High-Pop (Conquest) Alerts

  • When a continent has more than 800 players on it, a “Conquest” Alert will immediately fire off that uses the same rules of a typical Meltdown.
  • Populations do not typically reach this threshold on PS4, but it’s noted here for posterity.

Koltyr

  • Koltyr will now be added to the continent unlock rotation during times of low population.
  • Depending on how low the current global population is, large continents still in the Unstable state may also be spun down to help funnel players into Koltyr.
  • We plan to make additional threshold changes to ensure this doesn’t become all-Koltyr all-day for an extended period of time, and those changes will follow in a later update.

TI Alloys

  • Ti Alloys, on Indar, has been re-enabled on the lattice.

Missions
Gun Game – Uncommon Daily, Black Market

  • This mission asks players to earn kills with increasingly challenging weapons.

Default Equipment
We’ve made some tweaks to which equipment new players receive at the start of the game. A couple of the areas we wanted to address were the lack of infantry anti-air in the earlier stages of the game, the unwieldy nature of certain starter weapons, and the lack of default vehicle equipment. Those changes are listed in the Infantry and Vehicles sections below.

Vehicles
Default Utility and Defense

  • Standard vehicles have received rank 1 Fire Suppression as the default utility item.
  • Standard vehicles have received rank 1 Nanite Auto-Repair as their default defense item, except for the Sunderer, which has received rank 1 Deployment Shield.

Bastion Fleet Carrier

  • The Bastion now has temporary invulnerability for up to 90 seconds after it is called. If the Bastion is ordered to move or attack, the invulnerability will be dispelled early.
  • Mauler Cannons no longer have knockback.

Lightning

  • The L100 Python HEAT has replaced the C75 Viper as the default main cannon.
  • L100 Python HEAT direct damage from 525 to 575.
  • L100 Python HEAT reload speed from 2 sec. to 2.5 sec.
  • L100 Python AP gravity from 4 to 5, to fall in line with other tank cannons.

Heavy Machine Gun Resistance

  • Resist type 4 reduced from 87 to 80 for the ANT, Chimera, Lightning, Vanguard, Prowler, Magrider, and Sunderer.
  • Resist type 4 reduced from 87 to 80 for the Colossus.
  • Resist type 4 reduced from 75 to 70 for Scythe, Reaver, and Mosquito.

Infantry
Default Sniper Rifles

  • The XM98 has replaced the VA39 Spectre as the default sniper rifle for the Vanu Sovereignty Infiltrator.
  • The M77-B has replaced the 99SV as the default sniper rifle for the Terran Republic Infiltrator.

Default Rocket Launchers

  • The Nemesis VSH9 has replaced the S1 as the default rocket launcher for the Vanu Sovereignty Heavy Assault.
  • The Hawk GD-68 has replaced the Shrike as the default rocket launcher for the New Conglomerate Heavy Assault.
  • The ASP-30 Grounder has replaced the ML-7 as the default rocket launcher of the Terran Republic Heavy Assault.

GD-22S (NC LMG)

  • The GD-22S has replaced the NC6 Gauss SAW as the default LMG for the New Conglomerate Heavy Assault.
  • GD-22S’ default color is now blue, instead of black.

T9A “Butcher” (TR Directive LMG)

  • Projectile velocity from hipfire is now in line with its projectile velocity while aiming at 570.

Defector (NSO MAX)

  • Speculative fix for lockons with the Hummingbird lasting long after the projectiles have died.

Nanoweave Armor (Suit Slot)

  • Equipping Nanoweave now reduces base movement speed by 10%, and Heavy Assault Shields are no longer affected by Nanoweave’s resistance reductions.

Ammunition Belt (Suit Slot)

  • Ammunition Belt now increases the reload speed of primary and secondary weapon slots by 15%, on top of its existing benefits.

Flash Grenade

  • Base blind duration from 8.5sec to 6.5sec.
  • Made the fade-out quicker after the effect expires.

Quick-Det Flash

  • Base blind duration from 4.5sec to 4 sec.
  • Made the fade-out quicker after the effect expires.

Fire-to-Sprint Delays
The delay between firing and being able to sprint again has been reduced for the following weapons:

  • HSG-400 (NSO only Shotgun)
  • NSX Daimyo (Common Pool Sniper Rifle)
  • SR-150 (NSO only Sniper Rifle)
  • SG-ARX Rutheford (NSO only Shotgun)
    • Additionally: While aiming down sights, pellet count increased from 6 to 7.

Projectile Sizes
Fixed projectile sizes that were smaller than the standard on the following weapons:

  • JVN-X3 Hydra (Javelin Primary)
  • The Executive (NC Auraxium Pistol)
  • The Kraken (NS Auraxium Rocket Launcher)
  • Skorpios (VS Auraxium SMG)
  • Shuriken (TR Auraxium SMG)
  • Tempest (NC Auraxium SMG)
  • Eclipse VE3A (VS Auraxium Carbine)
  • TRAC-Shot (TR Auraxium Carbine)
  • 19A Fortuna (NC Auraxium Carbine)
  • Darkstar (VS Auraxium Assault Rifle)
  • T1A Unity (TR Auraxium Assault Rifle)
  • Gauss Prime (NC Auraxium Assault Rifle)
  • MANA Anti-Vehicle Turret (Engineer Deployable)

Implants
New Implants
The following implants are now available in ISO-4 Recyclers and Basic/Deluxe Implant Packs.

Berserker
Exceptional Implant (MAX only)

  • You now take 20% increased damage at all times, and your health constantly regenerates at a rate of 50 per second.

Uncommon Implant

  • Wielded melee or sidearm kills will immediately restock 12/15/20/30/30% of your primary or secondary weapon magazines for free.
  • Rank 5: Dying will fully reload your primary and secondary weapons from reserves.

Springstep
Rare Implant

Battlefield 2042 Community Survey Results Released, Here’s Where Some of the Community Stands

Just a few days ago, we reported that EA has sent out a survey to some of the Battlefield 2042 beta participants. While we don’t know what the results of that survey is, we have the next best thing: the Battlefield 2042 community survey results! Just want to emphasize that this is from a community survey, and in no way connected to EA or DICE. Got that? Good.

Some of the questions in the Battlefield 2042 communtiy survey are similar to the ones EA sent out to players. That said, the results here are not indicative of the entire Battlefield franchise, given there are less than 3,000 participants. Even so, it is still something to chew on for Battlefield fans. You can check it out in full right here via Google docs, or peruse the screenshots we’ve taken.

In other, more official, Battlefield 2042 news, EA has released the BF2042 beta stats, and confirmed that we’ll be hearing about the post-beta feedback in an article next week! Not only that, but we’ll be getting our first look at Hazard Zone tomorrow, October 14, too!

Battlefield 2042 will be released this November 19 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Thanks, csgoNOOB12!

Ricochet Anti-Cheat Announced for COD Vanguard and Warzone

In an effort to curb the rise of hackers and online cheaters, Activision has announced their heaviest efforts for anti-cheat for Call of Duty (COD) Vanguard and Warzone. Called Ricochet, this kernel-level anti-cheat will make its way to the next iteration of their yearly shooter, as well as the free-to-play battle royale component of COD.

As detailed in the official blog post, the Ricochet anti-cheat system “is a multi-faceted approach to combat cheating, featuring new server-side tools which monitor analytics to identify cheating, enhanced investigation processes to stamp out cheaters, updates to strengthen account security, and more.” What’s different for Ricochet compared to other anti-cheat programs is its kernel-level approach, as well as a host of features detailed below.

1.   A Full Anti-Cheat System. RICOCHET Anti-Cheat brings a broad enhancement to the security of for Call of Duty, bringing server enhancements to Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone. Launching first in Warzone later this year is a new kernel-level driver on PC. The driver will be integrated into Call of Duty: Vanguard at a later date. The new initiative allows for rapid iteration to combat a sophisticated and evolving problem.

2.   Call of Duty: Warzone Adds Kernel-Level Driver. Kernel-level drivers are given a high level of access to monitor and manage software and applications on a PC, such as your PC’s graphics card driver. The driver element of the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system will check the software and applications that attempt to interact and manipulate Call of Duty: Warzone, providing the overall security team more data to bolster security. Once the kernel-level driver is deployed; it will be required to play Warzone. For more detailed information about RICOCHET Anti-Cheat and its kernel-level driver, read the dedicated FAQ.

3.   Protecting Your Privacy.  In its initial rollout on Call of Duty: Warzone, the kernel-level driver will only operate when you play on PC. The driver is not always-on. The software turns on when you start Call of Duty: Warzone and shuts down when you close the game.  Plus, the kernel-level driver only monitors and reports activity related to Call of Duty.

4.   Feedback and Transparency Are Crucial. You are also a critical part in our pursuit to combat cheating.  So, please continue to report issues in-game, allowing the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat team to adapt all tools to combat cheaters.

If you’ll notice above, the publisher included some key information with regards to privacy and the anti-cheat’s kernel-level access. Riot Games, the publisher behind League of Legends and Valorant, are currently implementing another kernel-level anti-cheat for the latter, and it has been the center of controversy ever since its release. This is because this particular anti-cheat is always on, regardless of whether you’re playing or not, leading to many questioning if it is collecting data without players’ knowledge.

What do you think? Is this new anti-cheat enough to curb cheaters and other hackers in Call of Duty? Are you comfortable with the kernel-level anti-cheat the developers are implementing? Let us know in the comments below!

Brawlhalla Update 10.44 Punches Out for Patch 6.00 This October 13

Ubisoft has released the Brawlhalla update 10.44 October 13 patch, or what’s also called patch 6.00. This huge update brings a new Legend called Munin, as well as various gameplay changes and various fixes. Head down below for the complete patch notes.

Brawlhalla Update 10.44 October 13 Patch Notes (Patch 6.00):

The newest Legend is ready to rock out in the Grand Tournament! Munin, the Raven, storms the arena with her Six String Scythe and Lethal Lute Bow. Munin’s release also comes with three new Skins, including Hugin, her sister and bandmate, all purchasable in Mallhalla.

We’ve also added two new features in this update – Emojis and an Invite to Lobby system. Players can use Emojis to help communicate between one another on all platforms after or between matches, on the Scoreboard screen, and Lobby, while for the Invite to Lobby system, players can invite their opponents from their matchmade game to a separate lobby!

For those looking forward to a little fright, our Brawlhalloween event will start October 27th. And for those who want to prepare for the biggest gala, the Brawlhalla Anniversary event will begin November 10th.

Additionally, we made some game improvements, bug fixes, updated the Legend Rotation, and much more. Tune in this weekend for the final showdown as our Australia, South America, and North America regions battle it out in the Autumn Championship 2021!

To catch the latest Brawlhalla news and content, be sure to follow us on Twitter, Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Discord!

brawlhalla update 10.44

In this update we’ve introduced a new Emojis system so players can communicate on all platforms! Players can use Emojis to communicate after or between matches on the Scoreboard screen and in the Lobby. There are 15 Emojis featuring different Legends with unique expressions and emotions.

  • Players now can express themselves on all platforms!
  • The default bindings to use an Emoji are: “]”on keyboard and “RB” on controller. There is a small cooldown timer after consistently using an Emoji.
  • Saying “GG” after a match will automatically activate the “GG” Emoji for an easy shortcut.
  • If a player is muted, their Emojis are hidden from the player that muted them.
  • Since post-game chat was a feature only available on the Steam client and did not exist between platforms, it has been replaced by the Emoji system. It is still available in character select, mid-match for spectators, custom lobbies, matchmaking lobbies, and the main menu for clans on PC and Mac.
  • There are now options for PC and Mac players to customize their chat visibility between all, friends+clanmates, or no chat.

Looking for your next Ranked 2v2 partner or want to spar against the last opponent you played? Players can now invite other players they just brawled with or against from matchmade games to a lobby!

  • This can be done from the Scoreboard screen either from the Inspect menu or the Lobby menu in the top-right hub.
  • Players select what type of lobby to invite other brawlers to, but the type of lobby will not change until the invited player joins.
  • A notification will appear if the invited player accepts the invitation. Players can accept the invitation from their notifications in the Lobby menu or Main Menu.
  • Players can also invite their opponent even if they are not on their friends list.

We are continuing to add additional security measures to online play. During the month of October we will be testing Easy Anti-Cheat integration. Once enabled, ranked queues and tournament lobbies will use this system.

On Windows, this requires a 64-bit operating system. Nearly all PC players are already running compatible versions of Windows. Very old versions of Windows (such as Vista and XP) may not support EAC. If you are one of the few who’s computer does not meet the requirements, or you disable EAC, all other game modes are still available.

Walk the line between myths and truth like Lara Croft! Pick a teammate and survive the treacherous climb through this 3 minute, 2v2 match. Beware! The temple is filled with traps, so make your own luck by activating the pressure plates to turn them on the opposing team. The team with the highest score wins!

  • Climb Game Mode
  • 2v2 Teams
  • Climb the map as you battle your opponents!
  • Beware: pressure plates activate traps.
  • Score the most points for your team to win!

Diablo 2 Resurrected Down Reports Surfacing Again This October 13 (Update)

Not sure if we should be used to it by now, but it seems Diablo 2 Resurrected down reports are once again surfacing today, October 13! This is for EU and NA players, and seems to affect multiple platforms. By our count, this is the fourth straight day that the game’s servers have ran into some issues, which is baffling for a company as big as Blizzard.

Diablo 2 Resurrected Down Report October 13:

Update: Blizzard said they are investigating the issues that have transpired over the past few days during peak hours, so there might be issues with logins and whatnot.

Blizzard Entertainment has acknowledged the issue, though only mentions the downtime for PS5 gamers.

However, gamers from other platforms are experiencing server issues as well, and can’t log in. Here are some of the reports via Reddit:

Are the servers down AGAIN?

Servers DOWN AGAIN! Login not possible atm…
byu/decntmusic inDiablo

Same as before, we’ll be updating this post as more news becomes available from Blizzard. Likewise, share your platform, region down in the comments to let other gamers know whether the game is working in some areas or not.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the game got an excellent score in our review (minus the server problems) where we state, “Despite Blizzard’s recent track record of poor decisions and mishandling of the Warcraft 3 remake, in the case of Diablo 2 Resurrected, Blizzard shows they’re able to deliver on a solid remaster that improves the visuals and effects of the game, while still maintaining its classic charms.”

Psyonix has released the Rocket League update 2.06 patch for October 12, and this adds the new free play ball controls along with bug fixes and more. Head on for the official patch notes below.

Rocket League Update 2.06 Patch Notes for October 12:

Free Play Ball Control

  • New ball controls are now available in Free Play
    • We want to thank everyone who contributes to BakkesMod and their hard work for inspiring this feature addition
  • You can now control the ball in five different ways with the push of a button:
    • Take Possession: Places the ball in front of your car
    • Start Dribble: Places the ball on the hood of your car
    • Pass Ball: Sends the ball towards your car
      • Sometimes the pass will be just left or right of your car, depending on the angle and position, so heads up!
    • Launch Ball: Behaves similarly to tip-off in Hoops
    • Defend Shot: Shoots the ball towards the closest goal
  • These new controls can be used together
    • Example: You can use Launch Ball to send it high, then Defend Shot to mimic a shot from the ceiling or high up on the wall
  • Ball Reset continues to work as before (return to the kickoff position)
  • Defend Shot and Pass Ball don’t always work as intended in some arenas and modes, including:
    • Double Goals (Rocket Labs)
    • Utopia Retro (Rocket Labs)
    • Dropshot
    • Hoops
  • [Nintendo Switch] When using a single Joy-Con for controls, Free Play Ball Control is disabled

While the official EA Star Wars account has yet to acknowledge any issues, Xbox own support has confirmed that players are currently experiencing disconnect issues.

We will continue to monitor the servers, and hopefully this issue is resolved quickly so that you may return to your normal play schedule.

〓Update Details〓
I. New Inazuma Island — Tsurumi Island
An island that has been locked off by perpetual fog, where few people dare enter.
◇ After the Version 2.2 update, Tsurumi Island in the Inazuma region will be available.
◇ Unlock Criteria: Complete the World Quest “Seirai Stormchasers”

II. New Character
4-Star Character “Protector From Afar” Thoma (Pyro)
◇ Vision: Pyro
◇ Weapon: Polearm
◇ The Kamisato Clan’s housekeeper. A well-known “fixer” in Inazuma.

Thoma’s Elemental Skill “Blazing Blessing” can deal AoE Pyro Damage, apply Pyro to himself, and summons a defensive Blazing Barrier. When a new Blazing Barrier is obtained, the remaining DMG Absorption of an existing Blazing Barrier will stack and its duration will be refreshed. The maximum DMG Absorption of the Blazing Barrier will not exceed a certain percentage of Thoma’s Max HP.
When Thoma uses his Elemental Burst “Crimson Ooyoroi,” he deals AoE Pyro DMG and creates a Scorching Ooyoroi. Characters under the effects of the Scorching Ooyoroi will trigger Fiery Collapses with their Normal Attacks, dealing AoE Pyro DMG and summoning another Blazing Barrier. Except for the amount of DMG they can absorb, the Blazing Barriers created in this way are identical to those created by Thoma’s Elemental Skill.

The 4-star character “Protector From Afar” Thoma (Pyro) will be available in a future event wish.

III. New Domain

Moshiri Kara

  • A mansion that was set up somewhere outside the Sea of Fog. No one knows who built this place, but it seems clear that it is now nothing but a den of ravenous wolves.
  • Unlock Criteria: Reach Adventure Rank 40 or above and fulfill certain criteria.
  • Challenge the Domain to obtain rewards such as Primogems and Electro Sigils. Located at Tsurumi Island.

IV. New Equipment

New Weapons

Polar Star (5-Star Bow)

  • A pristine bow that is as sharp as the glaciers of the far north.
  • Increases Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG. After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, 1 stack of Ashen Nightstar will be gained for several seconds. When 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar are present, Attack DMG will gradually increase. The stack of Ashen Nightstar created by the Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst will be counted independently of the others.

Akuoumaru (4-Star Claymore)

  • The beloved sword of the legendary “Akuou.” The blade is huge and majestic, but is surprisingly easy to wield.
  • The entire party’s combined maximum Energy increases the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon. A certain percentage of increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.
  • During the event wish, Epitome Invocation, the event-exclusive 5-star weapon Polar Star (Bow) and the event-exclusive 4-star weapon Akuoumaru (Claymore) will receive a huge drop-rate boost!

Wavebreaker’s Fin (4-Star Polearm)

  • A naginata forged from luminescent material deep in the ocean depths. It was once the possession of the tengu race.
  • The entire party’s combined maximum Energy increases the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon. A certain percentage of increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.

Mouun’s Moon (4-Star Bow)

  • A lovely warbow made from seashells and coral. A mournful brilliance flows along its moonlight-colored arms.
  • The entire party’s combined maximum Energy increases the Elemental Burst DMG of the character equipping this weapon. A certain percentage of increased Elemental Burst DMG can be achieved this way.
  • The event-exclusive 4-star weapons Wavebreaker’s Fin (Polearm) and Mouun’s Moon (Bow) will be available in a future event wish.

V. New Event
“Labyrinth Warriors” Event: Take part to invite “Blazing Riff” Xinyan (Pyro)!
During the event, you can obtain Aged Tokens upon completing the Mystic Onmyou Chamber. Aged Tokens can be exchanged in the event shop for Primogems, Crown of Insight, Character Level-Up Materials, Talent Level-Up Materials, Hero’s Wit, Mystic Enhancement Ore, and Mora. If you meet all the requirements for Blazing Unison, you can exchange a number of Aged Tokens to invite “Blazing Riff” Xinyan (Pyro).

  • Hydro DMG dealt by party members increased by 60%.
  • Updated the monster lineup on Floors 11 – 12 of the Spiral Abyss.

Starting from the first time that the Lunar Phase refreshes after updating to Version 2.2, the three Lunar Phases will be as follows:
Phase 1:
Vanguard Moon
After the challenge begins, when a character’s Elemental Energy is greater than or equal to 50%, they will gain a 6.5% ATK Bonus every second. Max 10 stacks. When a character’s Elemental Energy is less than 30%, the ATK Bonus gained this way will be cleared.

Phase 2:
Chiliastic Moon
After the challenge begins, when a character’s Elemental Energy is 100%, they will gain 1 stack of Auspice every second. Max 10 stacks. When this character unleashes their Elemental Burst, all Auspice stacks will be cleared, and the DMG dealt by this character will be increased by 5% for each stack cleared for the next 10s. While the character is enjoying the DMG Bonus gained via this method, they cannot gain any more stacks.

Phase 3:
Splendiferous Moon
After the challenge begins, when the active character’s Elemental Energy is greater than or equal to 50%, they will continuously release shockwaves that deal DMG to opponents. When their Elemental Energy reaches 100%, these shockwaves will deal even greater DMG.
