You Don’t Need to Break the Bank to Find a Game to Lose Yourself In

Games are getting more and more expensive. There’s no denying it. All you need to do is look at Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart to see where the industry is heading with current-gen titles. You’re looking at $70/£70 if you want to play the latest titles at launch. As someone who used to struggle to scrape together the £40 needed to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater at launch, it’s a really shocking turn of events, despite it having happened over the course of years. The thing is, you don’t need to spend all your money in one hit to enjoy a game. In fact, you can spend nothing and still have a great time.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: some games are entirely free. Genshin Impact, Fortnite, Dauntless, and many others cost you nothing to download to your console. In exchange for that free buy-in, the developers do lock most of the good content behind a paywall, but you can still try the title and get a good feel for it after 20 hours or so without spending a penny. Unless the developers release a demo, you don’t have the same opportunity with any triple A game. You just have to put your money down and hope that the game’s good. If not, it feels like a waste.

Moving up slightly, you can also pick these games up for a small price that adds some of that paywalled content. The game still has hundreds of hours of content for you to enjoy. You just have to put a sort of deposit down if you want to access a little of it. It’s similar to minimum deposit casinos in that you’re being asked for a small buy-in, but the experience you have is more than worth that initial price. Unlike the full price of a brand new game, no one minds putting $10 or so into a game that they could potentially be playing for years to come.

Outside of this, sales and the slow decrease in the price of games occur over time. The games you want to play today will be cheaper in a few months. In a year, they’ll be even cheaper, and that’s without counting the phenomenal discounts you might be able to take advantage of in sales. If you’re interested in a game but don’t want to pay full price, add it to your Steam wishlist or a personal one. Keep an eye out for it in every sale you can see, and eventually, you’ll see that game go for a price you’re willing to pay.

Don’t be disheartened if a game you’re passionate about is out of your price range. One day it won’t be, and that’ll be the day you play it. For now, though, there are plenty of games to keep you entertained until that one big title you’re after is within reach. Of course, every game you invest your time in could be your next favorite, but you’ll never know that unless you give them a chance.

Outriders Upcoming Update Seeks to Buff “Few Skills” for All 4 Classes; Known Issues Listed

Following the patch released last month for Outriders, People Can Fly has outlined some of the Outriders upcoming update changes that are planned for the looter shooter. The devs have mentioned that a “few skills” will be buffed for all four classes, though it wasn’t specified which ones.

In addition to the buff coming to a few skills, the devs have also commented on the next patch, which has no firm release window just yet, as well as a list of kown issues.

Balancing:

We’re currently looking to buff a few skills for all four classes. Some of these changes will require bespoke codework though as the changes are not just to their numbers but also to the way they function.

To that end, we will likely roll these balancing changes into one of our upcoming patches. We’re aiming to buff each class in unison and are avoiding split-buffing, which is why we need a bit more time to bundle these changes collectively for a patch.

Patch News:

Our next patch requires a little more time for us to ensure its stability, especially following the past week’s successful patch. We are in the testing phase currently and will have more information to share on this soon. Thank you for your patience on this!

List of known issues:

Note 1: This is not an exhaustive list of things being worked upon. This is also not a list of patch notes for the next patch. Upcoming patches will address issues that may not be listed here.

Note 2: “Investigated” means that we have been able to successfully reproduce an issue on our dev environment and are currently looking at the root causes of said issue. If we have not yet been able to reproduce a specific issue, it may not be listed here, but that doesn’t mean we’re unaware of it.

· Xbox problems related to signing in

o This is one of our top priorities and something we are continuing to investigate.

· Certain Mods not working, in particular when you’re the client during multiplayer sessions

o Issue under review following multiplayer improvements

· Scrap Grenade mod may stop working after cutscenes

o Issue currently being investigated

· Players dying while a shield is active

o Issue currently being investigated. Rather than shields not properly mitigating damage, this issue may be caused by (either) the UI not catching up properly or it may be a case of certain shield mods continuing to proc their shield after death has occurred under certain edge cases.

Example: A player continually generates shields and their death prevention mechanics are already on cooldown. They are then hit by enemy damage waves that deplete both shields and health at a greater/faster rate than the shield can regenerate in that window, leading to cases of player HP reaching 0 for a split-second before another chunk of shield is added.

· Trickster’s Hunt the Prey does not turn player towards an enemy’s back if aiming down sights immediately after activation

o Issue currently being investigated

· Trickster’s Venators Knife may target a wrong enemy

o Issue currently being investigated. This appears to be due to a delay when the skill changes targets.

· Devastator’s Gravity Leap Mods may apply status effects inconsistently

o Issue currently being investigated

· Devastator skills may have inconsistent damage output, particularly when using Bleed & Moaning Winds combo.

o Issue currently being investigated

· Devastators Statue Set bonus may end after 8 seconds (which is not stated in the description)

o Issue currently being investigated and will be resolved in a future patch

· Technomancer’s Borealis set bonus may not apply properly

o Issue currently being investigated and will be resolved in a future patch

· Devastator’s Blood Donation class node may not work without any skill life leech stats boost from other gear or nodes

o Issue currently being investigated

· Journal entries/pick ups may not appear on secondary characters

o Issue being reinvestigated

· “Damage Blocked” Stat on Expeditions results screen occasionally appears inconsistently or abnormally low

o Issue currently being investigated

· Dismantle may not show a proper preview

o Issue currently being investigated. This is purely a visual bug, dismantling still provides the appropriate mods.

· Brood Mother’s AOE “Surge” attack VFX are very hard to see

o Issue being investigated

Same as always, once the patch is out, we’ll let our readers know, so bookmark our Outriders game hub if you want to make sure you get the news ASAP.

Space Punks Beta Confirmed Along With Other Fresh Details

While no release date has been given for Jagex and Flying Wild Hog’s upcoming sci-fi title, Space Punks, it seems it won’t be long before gamers get their hands on it as a beta for Space Punks has been announced, along with other tidbits of information.

As revealed on the official Space Punks Discord channel, community managers took to answering some questions from eager players, one of which was concerning whether or not Space Punks would be getting a playable beta.

Further, as we mentioned before there is no release date for Space Punks, though it seems we won’t have to wait long.

Space Punks Release Date

Over on Reddit, JagexStark (Community Manager from Jagex) posted a short introduction of the game, revealing that Space Punks will feature a “ever-changing gameworld,” and that players will be tasked with taking up contracts.

A top-down looter shooter, Space Punks features crazy, over-the-top action in a unique, irreverent sci-fi setting. Players are given the chance to blast their way to fame, glory and wealth by taking on lucrative contracts on far-flung planets against impossible odds.

Space Punks is designed to be a living, breathing, and ever-changing gameworld – a true living game built in line with Flying Wild Hog’s creative mission to make action-packed, fast-paced, and wholeheartedly unique titles that transport players into unexpected and exciting new worlds.

And finally, the official website for Space Punks is also up, allowing people to sign up for their official newsletter. There isn’t a whole lot of details to be found here, though if you look at the bottom of the page where platforms are typically listed you can see the Windows icon, suggesting this will be coming to PC. Furthermore digging into the source code also lists PC as one of the platforms. While there are no mentions of PlayStation, Xbox or Switch, although that does not mean it won’t be coming to those platforms.

Also found in the source code is a full artwork image along with a gameplay screenshot which you can view below.

Once we have more details on the Space Punks beta, we will be sure to let you all know, so stay tuned!

The Last of Us 2 Update 1.09 July 1 Sneaks Out (Update)

Naughty Dog has sneakily released The Last of Us 2 update 1.09 July 1 patch today! This is an unannounced title update, and is honestly a surprise given we just got the PS5 60 frames-per-second boost patch a month ago. This is a super small download, clocking in at just 96MB, so don’t expect anything major from it.

The Last of Us 2 Update 1.09 July 1 Patch Notes | The Last of Us Part II Update 1.09:

Size: 96MB

Per the PS4 update history:

  • General bug fixes and improvements
  • Update: According to XDKiller (comments below) this fixes the in-game timer when playing in 60FPS mode.

That’s about it — at least via the in-game notes, which usually doesn’t reflect what developers changed with the game.

Currently, Naughty Dog has not released any patch notes or mentioned what this title update is for. We’re currently checking with the community to see if they spot anything, and we’re doing a bit of digging ourselves.

Given the game’s first year anniversary was this past June 18, this could very well be related to it, or it could be another PS5-related title update.

We’ll update the post once Naughty Dog releases anything official, or if we spot anything that got changed. If you spot anything, let us know what you find down in the comments below.

Dying Light 2 Monsters List Reveals Details and the Dangers We’ll Face

To coincide with the release of the new Dying Light 2 Monster trailer, Techland has pushed out a new interactive website, allowing users to find out which monster they would turn into if they got infected.

Down below, you’ll find a full list that we compiled of all the monsters that you can become from the questionnaire, along with a short description describing each of them.

Dying Light 2 Monster List

Human

Yes, you’re still a human, but remember that humans are the most dangerous monsters of all kinds. Even if somebody in The City seems to be your dearest friend, as soon as there’s not enough food or water, this may change. Trust no one. As nobody trusts you.

PS. You were lucky. But sooner or later you will join the monsters army. It’s just a matter of time.

Viral

If the UV rays don’t slow the spread of the pathogen in time, an infected individual enters the first stage of the disease and becomes a Viral. Virals are still full of vigor which the virus enhances further. They are constantly uneasy and racked by spasms. Once they find a prey, every muscle in their body instinctively engages in a mad pursuit. They’ll chase it relentlessly, and as soon as they catch it, they’ll chaotically beat it, scratch it, and bite it, like wild animals. The Viral’s posture—their tense muscles and tendons—emphasizes the aggression boiling beneath the surface.

PS. As a Viral, you may get significantly better results in the gym, so be prepared for that.

Banshee

A vivid symbol of punishment for the sins of vanity and unbridled consumerism. Pieces of her evening dress still cling to the Banshee’s petite body, as does some gold jewelry. Her hands have transformed into claws, her manicured nails—into talons. Although Banshee is driven by instincts, her behavior seems to indicate some unsettling remnants of humanity. Could there be a woman trapped within the rotting flesh of this witch, tormented by brief flashes of lucidity?

PS. Look at you! That evening gown and jewelry mean you’re the monster with the best taste in fashion. You should be proud of yourself.

Revenant

Resembling a character from the worst nightmares, Revenant’s easy to tell from other Infected. He’s unwieldy and slow, and moves hesitantly, as his thin legs can’t really support his bulk. His attempts to maintain balance are made all the more difficult by the growth on his back which looks like petrified wings. These special mutations can buff surrounding monsters by creating a zone of toxic mist.

PS. Now you can say: “I welcome you with open arms” not only to your friends, but also to your enemies. Have fun!

Volatile

When a Viral manages to avoid UV radiation for some time, they evolve into the deadliest of the Infected—a Volatile—primal strength that crushes any hope for a fair fight. His skin has hardened into armor over the years. The yawning hole in his torso clenches like a jaw, giving you no opportunity to deal the lethal blow. It’s the species that will rule the Earth… unless somebody exterminates it.

PS. Be careful when fastening your seat belts as your open rib cage may cut them unwillingly and you might get a fine.

Demolisher

The Demolisher’s split jaw suggests that the mutation took a sharp turn in a different direction right before a Viral’s transofrmation into a Volatile. Chemicals caused his body to grow to monstrous proportions, though not uniformly—one arm is larger than the other, and his disproportionately massive and sharp bones punctured his skin. When furious, he tramples everything on his path like an infuriated rhino.

PS. Finally, you get a perfect excuse for this devil of a mess in your room. Congratulations!

Additionally, the team has also released a new starter pack for fans that features some high resolution Dying Light 2 wallpapers, along with concept arts.

Dying Light 2 is scheduled to release on December 7 for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch #5 Content Details Coming in Interactive Live Event on July 8

Larian Studios announced today that they will be hosting a new Panel From Hell Stream, with the big focus being on Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch #5.

Streaming on Twitch on July 8, at 11 am PT, Larian Studios will be showcasing some fresh new content that’ll be arriving in the much anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch #5. No specifics as to what players will see, but the developers note in the press release that this patch will implement much of the feedback they received from Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch #4 (released in February,) as well as some of that since they went into early access back in October 2020.

About Baldur’s Gat 3:

Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.

From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

We’ll be sure to keep you all posted, and hopefully we get a release date for the new patch. Baldur’s gates 3 is now available on Steam early access.

Report: Warzone Dev Error Glitch Can Be Forced by Players to Crash Game

While Call of Duty: Warzone is no stranger to glitches and exploits, it seems a new one has surfaced, and this one crashes the game before it even starts! The COD Warzone dev error glitch has surfaced, and it’s causing games to freeze up and crash.

This glitch has been happening to players online, with videos and screenshots being captured as proof:

People online have chimed in stating that this too has happened to them, and most thought it was just a game-related bug. Twitch streamer Scoom also pointed out that as far as he’s aware, this is an actual thing caused by certain guns in the game!

For now, Call of Duty Warzone developers Raven Software has not acknowledged the glitch. Hopefully, this is one they can fix via a server-side update. If you’ve noticed this glitch happening to you, let us know down in the comments! Who knows? Someone out there might know of a way to prevent this from happening.

Jagex and Flying Wild Hog Announce Space Punks

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Diablo and Borderlands got together and had a baby? Probably not, but that hasn’t stopped Jagex and developers Flying Wild Hog (Shadow Warrior 3) from developing just that. Introducing Space Punks, an isometric action-RPG that takes place in, well, space.

Space Punks Debut Trailer

Got to say, this looks to be a fun one judging from the gameplay. We certainly cannot wait to see more of this, and hopefully the developers release more details, including a release date and platforms.

PlanetSide 2 Integration Update Storms Out on PC, NSO Faction Now Free-to-Play

Marked as one of the biggest updates in the 9 long running years of PlanetSide 2, the PlanetSide 2 Integration update is now live on PC, adding a number of new features and fixes, but most notable is that NSO factions are now free-to-play to any players!

Down below you’ll find the beefy patch notes for the PlanetSide 2 Integration update. Note that this update is only available on PC, while PS4 players will need to wait until August for it to release.

PlanetSide 2 Integration Update Patch Notes

_Integration
The robotic fourth-faction re-emerges with advanced technology, new equipment, and shifting allegiances. In the _Integration update, we’ve released two new vehicles, 16 new vehicle weapons, 35 new infantry weapons, and 11 new directive trees for NSO players to pursue. On top of that, the NSO faction has become FREE TO ALL PLAYERS.

Unlocking NSO
Visiting Sanctuary with a BR20+ character will provide you with a mission to learn more about the Nanite Systems Operatives faction. Completing that mission will flag your account with access to the NSO faction, and you’ll be able to create NSO characters from there on out.

Pre-existing accounts can log in with any BR20+ characters, or an NSO character of any Battle Rank, and still receive this mission.

Welcome, Freelancers
An NSO character without membership enters the “Freelance” status. A Freelancer will be assigned to the lowest populated faction on the continent to help them turn the tides of battle. Changing continents will reassign you as needed.

Freelancers are unable to create or join Outfits, and will need to select a “Home Faction” to do so.

Choosing a Home Faction
Players with All Access Memberships will be able to select a Home Faction by talking to a new NPC, Emerson, on Sanctuary. Aligning yourself with the Vanu Sovereignty, New Conglomerate, or Terran Republic, will allow you to create, join, and manage an Outfit within that empire.

You can also enter into a Freelance state on Sanctuary at any time, even while in an Outfit, and you won’t be kicked. While fighting for an opposing faction, however, you won’t have access to War Assets, Outfit communication, or representation. You can disable this state on Sanctuary as well.

Additionally, if you ever want to shift faction allegiances, you can leave your current Outfit, assign yourself to a new Home Faction, and join an Outfit there instead.

Existing NSO Outfits
With this update we begin winding down support for “factionless” NSO Outfits. This summer we’ll be providing a window for those Outfits to move to a Home Faction of their choice, and keep their members intact. This change requires additional tech to be created, and the timeline for that is still TBD. During this timeframe NSO Outfits will be unable to use War Assets, cannot recruit new members, and will adhere to other Freelance rules. Outfits can always be disbanded and reformed within a Home Faction to bypass the wait.

Arsenal Overhaul
NSO has become more defined as a faction with the introduction of new vehicles, weapons, and equipment.

Dervish Heavy Fighter
The Dervish is a two-seat vehicle that sacrifices agility for durability. The pilot operates nose-mounted forward guns, while the second seat is devoted to a top-gunner with a swiveling turret. This vehicle operates primarily as an air superiority fighter, and has limited ground support capabilities.

Chimera Main Battle Tank
Filling the MBT lineup is the Chimera, a six-seat vehicle crewed by the pilot/cannoneer, a forward turret gunner, and with space for up to four rumble seat passengers. The independent six-wheel suspension and swiveling forward portion allow for enhanced off-road performance and maneuvering.

Main Cannons

  • CT-135 – A balanced main cannon suited to both anti-infantry and anti-vehicle roles alike.
  • CT-150 Cyclops – A high-velocity anti-vehicle cannon capable of long-range combat.
  • CT-102 Satyr – A mid-range cannon capable of firing five rounds before reloading.

  • PMG-200 – High overall damage output with a low magazine capacity.
  • PMG-3XB – A hard-hitting 3-round auto-burst weapon with better mid-range accuracy than other SMGs.

Shotguns

  • SG-100 – Standard-issue shotgun with large magazine size and excellent pellet spread.
  • SG-A25 – An automatic shotgun meant for better CQC damage output at cost to accuracy.
  • HSG-400 – A “heavy” shotgun that mimics the damage of a pump action, despite being magazine fed.

Scout Rifles

  • BAR-100 – Versatile semi-auto scout rifle with a moderate rate of fire.
  • BAR-A75 – An automatic scout rifle with heavy damage output at mid-range.
  • BAR-200 – Heavy per-bullet damage with a slow rate of fire.

Sniper Rifles

  • SR-100 – The standard-issue semi-auto sniper rifle, adaptable and with easy follow-up shot potential.
  • SR-L75 – A lightweight version of the SR-100, with access to lower range optics and 0.75x ADS movement.
  • SR-150 – A heavier semi-auto sniper rifle with damage output that nears bolt-action potential.

Black Market
As mentioned above, all previous NSO weapon directive rewards now have non-Auraxium versions available in the Black Market, and are available to all factions. This includes the following:

  • NSX Kappa – An SMG that fires three, high-damage pellets per shot.
  • NSX Sesshin – A long-range automatic scout rifle with high damage potential.
  • NSX Yawara – An automatic pistol with moderate stopping power.
  • NSX Kuwa – An automatic hybrid rifle with a short windup and high damage.
  • NSX Muramasa – A rocket launcher that fires a barrage of unguided rockets while aiming or from the hip.

NS Viscount G6– New Black Market Shotgun

  • A suppressed variant of the NS Baron G5 is now available in the Black Market for all factions.

Missions
NSX Weapon Eval

  • The A7 reward will no longer stop appearing if you possess more than the A7 currency soft-cap.

NSX-A Kappa(NSO/Common Pool SMG)

  • Refire rate while aiming from 75ms to 80ms, now matching its hipfire refire rate.

NSX Daimyo (Common Pool Sniper Rifle)

  • Refire rate from 333ms to 667ms.
  • First shot recoil multiplier from 1 to 2.66.

Extended Magazines

  • Now increases weapon equip and unequip times by either 15% or 20% depending on size increase.
  • Many DBC costs were reduced during this pass to bring them in line with newer attachment pricing.

Lightning Grenade(Campaign Item)
This change will be more for PS4 than PC, as the Campaign has ended.

  • Removed storm restrictions on the Lightning Grenade, and it can now be used on all continents.
  • Overall damage and area of effect were reduced.
  • No longer overloads vehicles.

High Impact Changes
Rumble Seat Repairs

  • Repairing from the rumble seat has been removed for all vehicles.

Dev Note: We’ve removed rumble seat repairs to create clearer, more predictable vehicle balance. A lack of rumble-seat repairs should weaken the Harasser’s ability to escape to a small degree, and slow down the pacing for this vehicle. The vehicle most impacted by this change will likely be the Valkyrie, as it will need to fly closer to the ground instead of being as brazen in the air. We’ve compensated to a small degree by allowing the Valkyrie to use the Engineer’s Aircraft Synergy passive, but we’ll be monitoring to see if additional changes are necessary to keep the Valkyrie relevant and fun.

Battle Rifles and Scout Rifles

  • Both Battle Rifles and Scout Rifles have been combined under the “Scout Rifles” category.

Dev Note: This change increases weapon diversity for all non-Light Assault classes, and open up some new playstyle options.

Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions

  • A.N.V.I.L.s hologram markers can now be driven through by vehicles, and shot through by infantry and vehicles. The main reason for this change was to prevent exploitation of A.N.V.I.L. holograms killing vehicles when spawned.
  • Adjusted continent queue code to account for NSO teams properly.
  • NSO characters no longer spawn under the Warpgate floor.
  • NSO characters now communicate with the correct teams in proximity voice.
  • Engineer’s repair beam now points to a Defector’s chest.
  • NSO’s router now colors based on faction.
  • Fixed issues with numerous faction-specific jump pads not accounting for NSO teams.
  • Merit will no longer be cleared when leaving an Outfit.
  • Fixed a memory allocation issue associated with audio events. (This is unlikely to fix the “Audio Bug” caused by longer play sessions.)
  • You should no longer see random weapon attachments listed in the marketplace while using the search function.
  • Added very small cooldown between grief audio indications to prevent stacking when multiple projectiles hit at the same time.
  • NC and NSO Hardlight Barriers can no longer be stacked on top of one another.
  • Fixed a particle issue with medical applications point to point visuals.
  • Boosts can no longer be purchased with Merit.
  • NS-11 “Endeavor” Carbine’s 2x optics now correctly uses a 2x zoom range.
  • Added missing Vanguard “Warning” horn.
  • Vehicle dismount locations are now prioritized based on which seat the player occupied before ejecting.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Storm Spotting” mission where placing a buoy wouldn’t add progress.
  • Biolabs now use teleporters from satellite bases, instead of spawn rooms within the Biolab.
  • Fixed an issue with maximum voice channels being set improperly and the setting description being incorrect.
  • You no longer auto-join squads in Sanctuary, and auto-join has been disabled by default for new installations.
  • NSX Weapon Eval mission can no longer be completed by shooting NPCs.
  • Nanite boosts no longer give extra cert rewards.
  • Polish on Bastion terminal’s “Launch” button disabled state.
  • Added gunner kill experience for passengers on the Flash and Javelin.
  • Fixed missing collision in the Sunderer Tower asset.
  • Flash Basilisk Ammo Capacity upgrade no longer uses incorrect descriptions.
  • Updated various gate shield visuals.

Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC Release Date Announced for July 15

Get ready to brawl it out and take out the bad guys with some new characters and content, as Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC release date has been announced for July 15 — and that’s just a few short weeks away!

Here’s the new trailer showing the survival mode gameplay as well as the release date reveal.

Here’s the overview of what survival mode brings as well as what the rest of Mr. X Nightmare’s DLC contains via press release.
The announcement brings first details for Mr. X Nightmare’s Survival mode, an inventive, immensely replayable challenge for Streets of Rage 4’s most versatile brawlers. Fighters beat down endless waves of foes and earn perks for as long as they can stay alive across two session variations: Random, which keeps each fight unpredictable through generated runs; and Weekly, a series of static gauntlets generated each week.
Each completed level offers two randomized perks to choose from, granting stackable bonuses to power up combatants in unique and devastating ways until they’re defeated. Braving Survival’s onslaughts also permanently unlocks new moves for use across any of Streets of Rage 4’s modes, allowing players to personalize movelists for their favorite characters. Progress unlocks devastating new weapons within both Survival mode and an incoming training mode, as well as gallery content. The mode’s leaderboards keep track of the community’s well-fought runs too; who will be Wood Oak City’s finest fighter?
Mr. X Nightmare bundles the above with the playable debut of Estel Aguirre, fully realized playable versions of Max Thunder and Shiva, and grooving original music from Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania, League of Legends). A separate free update adding an in-depth training system, color palette options, a fiendish New Mania+ difficulty, plus a wealth of refinements and balancing changes addressing feedback from Streets of Rage 4’s passionate community, also arrives on July 15.
If you haven’t played this gem of a revival beat ’em up, read our review of Streets of Rage 4 here and see why it simply is a must play.
Streets of Rage 4 is available on consoles and PC now.

Random Bonus Drops Should be a Part of Battle Passes

Battle passes have become a staple of the games industry. Ever since Epic Games popularized them in Fortnite, allowing players to earn something extra for their time in the game regardless of their win rate, they’ve popped up in every major online game. From Rainbow Six Siege to Dead by Daylight, even unreleased games like Halo Infinite already have them in place. With this in mind, I think that it’s time someone mixed them up a bit.

We all know what we’re getting with a battle pass. There’s a free track that everyone can access. It offers a reward every few ranks, though none of them are that exciting. The only one worth chasing is rank 100, and even that is mired by the equivalent in the paid track. On the subject of the paid track, this is the only track that players truly care about. They can obtain some great-looking cosmetics through it, and all they have to do is play their favorite game. Upon reaching rank 100, they’re given the best cosmetic from the season, but they’ve also acquired all the ranks before as well as everything in the free track.

The tiny buy-in price is what hooks most players with a battle pass. For around $10, you get at least 100 new cosmetics for your game. That’s way more than any cosmetic bundle would give you, and it costs much less. However, it’s starting to get old. At this point, players know that they will have to play the game solidly for about three months to unlock everything they’ve paid for. It’s a huge commitment, especially if there’s a game that a player is excited about coming out in the middle of that three-month period.

That’s why I think there should be a bonus system with battle passes. Just like you can get NZ casino bonuses, battle passes should come with a guaranteed number of bonuses. When these bonuses drop is down to the player, though. Each one would be random, meaning that players might earn an extra rank or secret cosmetic if they play for just one more match. Developers could offer hints that tease players about how to get these bonuses. For example, playing three games might make it more likely to get a bonus, or playing a certain type of match as a specific character could do the same.

Using this method, players feel like there’s more value to their battle passes because they’re getting more than the standard 100 ranks of rewards. Developers can work the system to make players use a certain character or weapon more, allowing them together more data on them for future fixes, or just mix the season up a bit. By keeping players on their toes, everyone will benefit. Everyone loves a bonus, and when it’s a bonus you can go on to use in a game you’ll be playing in years to come, there’s really no downside. The better the bonuses, the more your player base will stick with the game, so it’s in the developer’s interest to make these as enticing as possible and give their communities something to really work towards.

Diablo 4 Quarterly Update Shows Us New Videos & New Art

Blizzard Entertainment is keeping the Diablo 4 hype alive, as it delivered on another Diablo 4 Quarterly Update today. This keeps fans informed on how the development of the game is coming along so far.

For this quarter, Blizzard artists talk about the design process of the characters and enemies in the game, as well as showcase a slew of new screenshots and short video clips! Check ’em out below, and remember: these are not final, and does not represent the final state of the game.

Aside from the videos, there’s a bunch of screenshots showcasing the different body types, armors, and how the game is moving from pre-rendered graphics for cutscenes, to now using in-engine assets.

Our beautiful and iconic hell fiend, Lilith! This is a capture from one of the in-game cinematics rendered in the Diablo IV game engine. This level of detail is now standard for how we present the major NPCs, classes, and monsters in Diablo IV.

We call this our Lair scene. Players will customize the look of their character here in our exciting new Wardrobe system that allows you to mix and match hundreds of armor components unique to your class, alongside custom color palettes to create the class fantasy that best represents your character.

Here’s a .gif showcasing the dye system the game uses for armor pieces.

Every armor set in Diablo 4 has two body types, and here’s a sample of it for the Barbarian class and the Rogue class:

There’s a lot more about the development process, which you can read about here.

Diablo 4 has no firm release date yet, though Activision has said that development is going “very well.” You can watch seven minutes of gameplay right here as well.
