AC Valhalla Update 3.01 March 26 Released Today for 1.2.0.1 (PS5 01.020.100)

While the big Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (AC Valhalla) patch for Title Update 1.2.0 just went out last week, Ubisoft has rolled out the AC Valhalla update 3.01 March 26 patch (PS5 version 01.020.100), or what the studio calls the AC Valhalla 1.2.0.1 patch! As one might expect, this is mostly for bug fixes rather than for any new content.

AC Valhalla Update 3.01 March 26 Patch Notes (PS5 01.020.100):

Here’s what in this patch according to Ubisoft:

We’ll be deploying an update tomorrow, March 26 at 12:00 PM UTC*, to address the crashes faced by players since the release of the Ostara Festival. Settlement decorations and decoration quests will be reactivated with this update.

That seems to be it for this title update today. If you spot any other gameplay-related or technical fixes included, let us know what you find down in the comments. If Ubisoft releases a full changelog for today’s patch, we’ll update the post.

Returnal Goes Gold As Housemarque and PlayStation Prepare for April Release

Get ready for an outer space time-loop style adventure like no other, as Returnal goes gold and ready for it to be published and distributed as Housemarque and PlayStation prepare for the game’s April release.

Making the announcement via Twitter PlayStation thanks the Housemarque team, PlayStation Studios, and all the teams that worked on the game.

Returnal has finally gone GOLD!!! A huge thanks to everyone on the team at Housemarque, PlayStation Studios, and all the other teams involved. We can’t wait to have this out soon and for every player out there to experience the planet of Atropos! #Returnal #PS5 #April30
If you need a refresher on what Returnal is, here’s the overview of the game.

Break the cycle of chaos on an always-changing alien planet.

After crash-landing on this shape-shifting world, Selene must search through the barren landscape of an ancient civilization for her escape. Isolated and alone, she finds herself fighting tooth and nail for survival. Again and again, she’s defeated – forced to restart her journey every time she dies.

Through relentless roguelike gameplay, you’ll discover that just as the planet changes with every cycle, so do the items at your disposal. Every loop offers new combinations, forcing you to push your boundaries and approach combat with a different strategy each time.

New The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Trailer Gives Us a Sneak Peek

Daedalic Entertainment has revealed a new The Lord of the Rings: Gollum trailer that gives us a sneak peek into the game. There’s a few seconds’ worth of gameplay in this trailer, though don’t expect anything major.

“It mustn’t see us! Help… don’t look at us… The precious is calling!”

Get a sneak peek at the upcoming story-driven action adventure video game based on the world of J. R. R. Tolkien.

The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ will be available in 2022 on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch™ and PC.

About the game:

Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings™.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.

While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself – or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

The decisions you make and the way you play have a direct influence on Gollum’s personality: Always struggling between the two sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, two egos – you decide!

You can help Gollum find his precious sometime next year.

But more pufflehops also mean more hungry styxians … The Springtide event kicks off on March 25, 2021 at 10 a.m PT and ends on April 8 at 10 a.m. PT. Expect unique prizes and the return of the Pufflehop Rescue event hunt.

EVENT DURATION

End: April 8, 2021 at 10 a.m. PT

REQUIREMENTS

Reach Milestone II on the Slayer’s Path.

Read on here for more details.

NORMALIZED POWER IN TRIALS

Gear power and resistance have been normalized in Trials. When we launched the reforge mechanic, we created a world where going back to content earlier in progression was more valuable than ever before. We also created a world where players were forced to choose between reforging their weapons or keeping them at level 20 to stay competitive in Trials. That’s not a choice we want players to have to make.

  • General
    • Final Stage
      • 🌧 The final stage has been redone entirely, with unique objectives and a new, large arena to play in. We won’t spoil it. Please let us know how you feel!
    • Low Health Threshold
      • 20%

        ⇒ 25%

    • NPC AI
      • All AI now have dramatically improved pathfinding
      • All AI now gets position updates on targets who are invisible only every few seconds, rather than losing the target entirely
    • Minions
      • Drones no longer have resistance to AOE attacks
      • 🌧 All minions now teleport to their owner if they stray past 400m
      • 🌧 All Minions now scale to the ‘ambient level’ of the run
Developer’s Notes: The ‘ambient level’ is the level of the run that grows over time. Previously, the enemy team used the ‘ambient level’ to set their level. Now, all enemies AND minions are at ambient level.

The result of this is that player minions, like ghosts from Happiest Mask, purchased Drones, and yes – the Squid Polyp – will scale much better over time. This matches drone scaling in RoR1.
  • Survivor
    • Commando
      • Update VFX of Double Tap, Phase Round, and Suppressive Fire
      • Double Tap
        • Now fires a single bullet per click
        • Bloom Reset Time:
          1s

          ⇒0.7s

        • Damage:
          90%

          ⇒ 100%

        • Duration:
          0.2s

          ⇒ 0.15s

      • Tactical Dive
        • Duration:
          0.5s

          ⇒ 0.4s

      • Phase Round
        • Now deals 40% more damage every time it passes through an enemy
    • Huntress
      • Now unlocked by default alongside the Commando! Her previous unlock condition (beat the 3rd stage) now unlocks the Bandit.
    • Engineer
      • Both Gauss Auto-Turret and Carbonizer Turret now also inherit your equipment. They won’t activate it, but they will hold it.
      • Grenades now have slight anti-gravity.
    • Artificer
      • Nano-Bomb
        • Tendril Damage:
          20% of explosion

          ⇒ 10% of explosion

        • Tendril Fire Frequency:
          0.25s

          ⇒ 0.125s

      • Tendril Same Target Frequency:
        2s

        ⇒ 1s

Developer Notes: This change is made specifically to avoid the Artificer’s Nano-Bomb tendrils proccing Ice and Fire Bands. The tendrils will now fire twice as often, but at half the damage.
    • Mercenary
      • Blinding Assault
        • 🌧 Now has a lingering 0.2s invincibility to help chain together Blinding Assaults in high-latency online games
  • Items
    • Bustling Fungus
      • Start Delay:
        2s

        ⇒ 1s

      • Now heals at a higher tick rate – overall healing is the same, but the healing is smoother over time
      • 🌧 Now has small visual mushrooms that grow over the area
    • Energy Drink
      • 🌧 Speed Boost:
        30% (+20% per stack)

        ⇒ 25% (+25% per stack)

Developer Notes: Mathematically, the Energy Drink was worse than the Goat Hoof for speed after the first pickup, even while sprinting. This change will consistently make Energy Drink stronger when sprinting, and also makes its stacking behavior more consistent. This may make the Energy Drink too strong, but it’ll at least make a bit more sense now.
    • AP Rounds
      • Improve visual effects to be more noticeable
    • Focus Crystal
      • Damage Boost:
        15% (+15% per stack)

        ⇒ 20% (+20% per stack)

      • Now shows radius for ‘nearby’ distance
      • Now causes numbers to be pink when active
Developer Notes: There are many characters and builds where the Focus Crystal should shine through – however, it never seems to be quite high priority enough for the effort required. We’re hoping that by making it both flashier and stronger, players will prioritize it.
    • Rusted Key
      • 🌧 Now subtly glows and pulses
      • Now grants items at the same rarity as a Large Chest
      • Now spawns a Lockbox per player with a Rusted Key
      • Now consumes a Rusted Key when a lockbox is opened, and requires a Rusted Key to open
      • No longer scales reward chance with the number of Keys in your inventory
Developer Notes: People have always been a bit confused about the behavior of the Rusted Key, so we made it make a bit more sense by actually consuming a key to open. 1 Key = 1 Box. Since the item no longer gives ‘infinite’ items, we can also make it a bit stronger and make the lockbox more noticeable.
    • Crowbar
      • Damage Boost:
        +50%(+50% per stack)

        ⇒ +75% (+75% per stack)

      • Improve visual effects to be more noticeable
      • Update pickup text to include the damage threshold
Developer Notes: Same reasoning as Focus Crystal – there are many heavy-hitter builds and characters, but Crowbars aren’t prioritized.
    • Gasoline
      • Now deals 150% base damage on detonation alongside the burn effect
    • Stun Grenade
      • Added visual effect when the item procs
    • Bison Steak (New! Yum!)
      • Replaced ‘Fresh Meat’ item
      • No longer grants regeneration on kill
      • Now grants 25 (+25 per stack) max health
    • Tri-Tip Dagger
      • Bleed Chance:
        15% (+15% per stack)

        ⇒ 10% (+10% per stack)

Developer Notes: Right now, bleed is okay until you can stack it infinitely, in which case it becomes incredibly strong. We want to smooth out the power curve a bit, increasing the number of daggers required for ‘infinite’ bleed to match the number of Glasses required for 100% crit.
    • Lepton Daisy
      • 🌧 Now activates in all ‘holdout zones’, like Void Fields, and not just during the Teleporter Event
    • Old War Stealthkit
      • Now activates when falling to low health, rather than as a chance when hurt
      • Stealth Duration:
        3s (+1.5s per stack)

        ⇒ 5s

      • Stealth Cooldown:
        0s

        ⇒ 30s (-50% per stack)

    • Bandolier
      • 🌧 Packs now restocks skills by the amount a full cooldown would
      • 🌧 Packs now also apply to stashed skills, like MUL-T’s second primary
    • Radar Scanner
      • 🌧 Now details if an interactable is a Barrel, Chest, Drone, Shrine, or something unknown
    • Frost Relic
      • 🌧 Now applies ice slow debuff
      • 🌧 Now has a softer visual
      • Damage Coefficient:
        150%

        ⇒ 300%

      • Radius:
        3m (+1.5m per kill)

        ⇒ 6m (+3m per kill)

    • H3AD-5T v2
      • 🌧 Now calculates damage from distance traveled, not speed on impact
Developer Notes: Even though this makes less sense from a physics standpoint, it will align better with player expectations. Super long fall = big boom.
    • Resonance Disk
      • Redo firing logic to be more understandable
        • Now grants 1 stacking buff per kill, lasting 5 seconds
        • Now fires the Disk at 4 stacks, resetting all stacks
    • Defiant Gouge
      • 🌧 Monster Spawn Points:
        100 (+100 per stack)

        ⇒ 40 (+40 per stack)

Developer Notes: A single Gouge would spawn way too many monsters. Now, having 1 or 2 Gouges should be a reasonable option.
    • Focused Convergence
      • 🌧 Now activates in all ‘holdout zones’, like Void Fields, and not just during the Teleporter Event
    • Queen’s Gland
      • Limit of deployed Beetle Guards now doubles for Artifact of Swarms
    • Halcyon Seed
      • Changed summoned Aurelionite pre-stack scaling from current-difficulty-based hp + damage bonuses to leveling up to the ambient level like other summoned characters
      • Summoned Aurelionite attention span:
        5s

        ⇒ 15s

Developer Notes: Aurelionite’s raised attention span should make it less likely to get distracted by weaker monsters attacking it so it’s more likely to spend its time fighting stronger monsters.
    • Mired Urn
      • No longer capable of targeting and healing from allies
  • Monster
    • Hermit Crab
      • Base Damage:
        4 (+0.8 per level)

        ⇒ 12 (+2.4 per level)

      • Mortar Projectile Count:
        3

        ⇒ 1

      • Mortar Projectile now has more visible trail
Developer Notes: When fighting Hermit Crabs, it’s always been difficult to parse where and how many there are. To help clarify their behavior, we made it clearer so 1 mortar = 1 crab.
    • Parent
      • Health:
        900(+270 per level)

        ⇒ 585 (+176 per level)

      • Update visuals to match closer to RoR1 design
      • Update animations
    • Greater Wisp
      • 🌧 Can now be stunned and frozen
    • Lunar Chimera (Golem)
      • Health:
        1900 (+570 per level)

        ⇒ 1615 (+485 per level)

      • Twinshot Attack
        • Total Shots:
          4

          ⇒ 10

        • Damage Coefficient:
          2

          ⇒ 1

        • Force:
          8000

          ⇒ 1000

        • Now fires in series, rather than all at once
        • Update visuals to be less noisy
      • Raised the aim origin to be closer to its cannons so it can fire more accurately
    • Lunar Chimera (Wisp)
      • Tracking Bomb
        • Damage Coefficient:
          6

          ⇒ 5

        • Speed:
          90 m/s

          ⇒ 60 m/s

        • Update visuals to be less noisy
    • Beetle Queen
      • Summon Beetles
        • Beetle Count:
          5

          ⇒ 2

        • 🌧 Now summons Beetle Guards instead of Beetles
    • Scavenger
      • Now properly spawn as elites
Developer Notes: Apparently, Scavengers were already spawning as elites – with their health and damage buff – but did not have their elite equipment (Burning, Glacial, etc). Now they will.
    • Void Reaver
      • Added a minimum distance between bombs
    • SPOILERS! Final Boss, Last Phase. SPOILERS!
      • Base Health:
        1000 (+300 per level)

        ⇒ 1400 (+420 per level)

      • Added stagger state triggered by taking high damage
      • Item Steal
        • Now consistently returns items as you deal damage, rather than randomly, i.e if you have him at 50% health, you will have 50% of your items back
        • Now consistently returns items to players in multiplayer in order (1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4) rather than per-player damage
        • Now returns items in the order that you found them, rather than in reverse order
        • Now utilizes Crowbars
  • Stages
    • Bazaar Between Time
      • Now allows you to reroll shop contents, at the cost of 1/2/4/8… lunar coins
    • Wetland Aspect
      • Altered stage layout to add more identifiable landmark areas
    • Sky Meadows
      • Reduce initial map monster spawns by -24%

  • Various optimizations, both small and big! Let us know if the game is running better (or worse…)
  • 🌧 Added an option in settings to disable Screen Distortion, like from using Spinel Tonic, since many users reported motion sickness from the effect.
  • 🌧 Added an team-colored area indicators for attacks from Mini Mushrums, Malachite Elites, Titans, Imp Overlords, Aurelionite, and Void Reavers. Remove area indicators for attacks from Beetle Guards.

    • Update visuals for Chests, Large Chests, Category Chests, Barrels, and Equipment Barrels to match other assets

    • Update visuals for all broken drones to be easier to see
    • Update visuals for missiles
    • Update damage numbers to be more legible
    • Update skin visuals for Huntress, MUL-T, Loader, and Artificer
  • 🌧 Fire trail hitboxes from Burning elites are no longer spherical and properly match the visuals

  • Survivor Logs now require you to beat the game at least once with that survivor
  • 🌧 Updated the Beetle Guard visuals when they spawn from a Beetle Gland to stand out more
  • 🌧 Improved Sticky Bomb’s logic for sticking to enemies
  • Now display ambient level on the HUD
    • Ambient level cap raised from 94 to 99
  • Allow for scripted combat encounters, like Aurelionite or Alloy Worship Unit, to spawn as elites if Artifact of Honor is enabled
  • 🌧 Add invincibility earlier into player spawning to reduce chance of dying instantly on entering a map
  • 🌧 Update Captain’s Supply Drop on controllers having non-intuitive reversed controls

  • Fixed boss items spawning more frequently than intended, especially when more items drop from multiplayer or Mountain Shrine bonuses
  • Fixed large rocks in Titanic Plains clipping into the camera
  • Altered geometry slightly to make more difficult to accidentally go out of bounds on many stages
  • Abandoned Aqueduct now has defensive tar fully circling outside of the play area
  • Fixed korean language characters missing in certain cases
  • Fixed some animation issues on the Loader
  • Fixed physics issues with Commando’s Frag Grenades

Ashborne Games Acquired by THQ Nordic, Set to Work on Brand New IPs

Looks like a studio comprised of fantastic developers has been added to the THQ family, as Ashborne Games has been acquired by THQ Nordic — with the company set to work on Brand New IPs and creating new games for their new mother studio.

Here’s the details on the acquisition of Ashborne Games via the press release.

Today THQ Nordic announces the incorporation of its newest studio, Ashborne Games, based in Brno, Czech Republic.

The studio consists of veteran game developers, who previously worked on such fine games as the Mafia-franchise, the ArmA: Armed Assault-franchise, Silent Hill: Downpour, Vigor, or the UFO-trilogy, UFO: Aftermath, UFO: Aftershock and UFO: Afterlight. Ashborne Games is now focused on laying the groundwork for a brand-new Strategy/RPG IP while simultaneously supporting Comanche in its early access phase, along with the game preview.

Our focus and passion lie in strategy and RPG games. Our goal as a team is to create an authentic gaming experience with sophisticated systems that encourage repeated playthroughs. We believe that’s something that’s really missing on the market.“ says Karel Kališ, Studio Game Director at Ashborne Games.

As of March 2021, Ashborne Games has 38 team members and is planning on growing.
THQ Nordic recently put out a new combat trailer for Biomutant, as well as details on the pre-order DLC The Mercenary.

PlanetSide 2 Update 2.32 March 25 Rolled Out Today

Daybreak Games has released the PlanetSide 2 update 2.32 March 25 patch, and this is for a misc. change of fixes. Note that this isn’t Chapter 03, as that’s starting April 16 and will run until May 30. Head on below for the complete patch notes.

PlanetSide 2 Update 2.32 March 25 Patch Notes:

Unstable Warpgates
Amerish, Esamir, Hossin, and Indar now have a “partially” stabilized state that creates additional territory lanes along the rim of the continent, in addition to the path in the center.

  • “Partial” stabilization occurs at 75 players on the continent, or after 3 hours have passed.
  • “Full” stabilization occurs at 200 players on the continent, or after 5 hours have passed.

The intention behind these changes is to increase fight density on off-continents and during low-pop hours, and prevent ghost-capping of off-continents.
Previous changes went too far in this regard, and the partial stabilization state will allow for more combat areas.

Chapter 03
As mentioned in last week’s article, we’re pushing back the Chapter 03 start date, and beginning testing of the new content with an internal group. The new Chapter 03 start and end dates will be April 16 through May 30th.
You can read the last dev letter talking about our progress with Chapter 03 here: https://www.planetside2.com/news/chapter-3-progress-update

Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions

  • When a player has incoming tells turned off, they will no longer be able to send tells, themselves. You will still be able to receive tells from your friends list and Outfit mates.
  • Loadout selection from the map screen dropdowns now have appropriately sized text.
  • NSO LB00 Python AP can now unlock and upgrade attachments.
  • NSO characters can now earn directive progress for gunner kills for vehicles summoned by non-NSO characters.
  • NSO Valkyrie’s Hellion now has a windup time, like the other factions’ versions.
  • NSO’s CQC Primary directive now shows a Silver medal for the Adept tier, instead of Gold.
  • Fixed an issue where multiple tabs could show in the vehicle horns section of the loadout screen.

Once we get wind of the next patch, we’ll let our readers know.

Biomutant Combat Trailer Released, Pre-Order DLC Bonus The Mercenary Announced

Get ready to mix it up in a fable style open world of Kung-Fu and mutants, as THQ Nordic has a new Biomutant combat trailer released — along with a pre-order DLC bonus called the Mercenary announced for the game.

Check out the combat trailer and see this fable martial arts world filled with mutants in action.

For an overview of what the Mercenary bonus class DLC will contain, here is the press release via THQ Nordic.

Pre-order Bonus: The Mercenary
The Mercenary offers a unique combination of perks and is playable from the start through this DLC only. The Mercenary has dual-wield as a starting ability and is geared up with a classic Katana and the shorter Wakizashi blades to explain it in real-world terms. Simply put, it’ll let you experience the world of Biomutant as classic samurai-looking warrior from the very beginning.Who gets the Merc Class as a preorder incentive?
The Merc class will be included in all digital preorders, as well as all physical Super SKUs of Biomutant (no matter if it is a preorder or not); inside there will be a little leaflet with the access codes on it. Preorders for the physical Standard Edition will not get the Mercenary.

Will it be exclusive or is there a difference for PC and consoles in terms of digital preorder?
No, they are basically the same; the only item that will be exclusive to the console will be a PS4 theme of Biomutant.

Will I be able to buy the Merc after release?
Yes, we will offer it also as a DLC post-release; the preorder incentive gives you get a slightly better deal if you preorder (base game plus “free” merc DLC) versus buying the game on release day, and then buying the Merc Class on top of that.

For those preparing to play Biomutant on PC, don’t forget to check out the requirements for it here.

Biomutant will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 25.

Capcom Considered Cancelling Resident Evil Before It Saved Them From Bankruptcy

Before it became the PlayStation’s first million-seller game, Resident Evil for the original PlayStation 1 was caught in the middle of a financial crisis, as Capcom was looming over the possibility of going bankrupt. A crazy thought considering where they are today, but the landscape of gaming as we know was far different in ’90s. With costs of development soaring with 3D games, and the company experiencing not-so-well expected results from recent releases, some big changes had to be made, and one of them was the potential cancellation of their yet to be proven title, Resident Evil.

As told in the newly released book “Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil” by industry professional Alex Aniel, Capcom had considered cancelling Resident Evil, despite almost being completed. This came under a recommendation from an American consulting firm, though internal pressure also pushed for it’s cancellation.

“No one, not even the development team, had high expectations for the game. Certain managers at Capcom wanted to cancel the game, and that’s what nearly happened. However, I really pushed them to see production through to the end. I myself personally had a lot of faith in the game,” said Tokuro Fujiwara who was executive producer at Capcom at the time.

Alex also makes notes that even the game’s own director, Shinji Mikami, didn’t know of the potentially cancellation, at least not until nearly a decade after release.

The title would go on to shatter Capcom’s sales and critic expectations and win Game of the Year (GamePro magazine) along with being voted as the best PlayStation game in the states. A company that was apparently on the brink of going under was now seeing a new breath of life that would go on and continue to carry it to this day.

Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil By Alex Aniel is now on sale on Unbound for $15. It is also available for pre-order (April 15 release) digitally via Amazon, as with a hard cover copy (July 21 release). Highly recommend everyone give this a purchase and read, as it uncovers plenty of new Resident Evil history that was previously unknown. Not to mention it’s a wonderful read.

Ghost of Tsushima Movie in the Works From Sony and PlayStation Productions, John Wick Helmer Chad Stahelski Directing

One of 2020’s best video games and game of the year nominee is getting the film treatment it deserves, as Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are working on a Ghost of Tsushima movie, with John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski directing.

The news on the movie adaptation comes exclusively from Deadline, with details below.

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are developing a film adaptation of the hugely successful action adventure game Ghost of Tsushima, with Chad Stahelski attached to direct. The game recently crossed a massive milestone of selling over 6.5 million copies since its July 2020 debut.

The game is developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and centers around samurai warrior Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of his clan, who must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing through their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will produce on behalf of PlayStation Productions. Sucker Punch Productions will serve as Executive Producers. Peter Kang is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions.

Released exclusively for the PS4 on July of last year, Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure stealth game that became the fastest selling IP title that year — selling 2.4 million copies in three days. A movie adaptation of this video game is a no brainer for its style and visuals alone, and will be handled by the man who directed Keanu Reeves in his best action film role in modern cinema today.

If you haven’t played the game you definitely should — check out our review of it here.

Back 4 Blood Delayed to October 12, 2021, Open Beta Coming This Summer

In news that really shouldn’t shock anyone, developer Turtle Rock Studios has announced that Back 4 Blood has been delayed! Originally set to crawl out on June 22, the zombie game which looks to be the spritual successor of the Left 4 Dead franchise is now eyeing October 12 as it’s new release date.

This announcement was made by the studio over on Twitter today:

Turtle Rock Studios is working hard to make Back 4 Blood the best game it can possibly be at launch and the team needs more time to do this. Therefore, we will release Back 4 Blood on October 12, 2021. We thank our community for its continued support and are excited to share that there will be an open beta this summer.

While no doubt a bummer, can’t say I’m shocked by this bit of news. Hopefully, the open beta will be a banger of a good time. In case you haven’t seen it, go read and watch our gameplay impressions of the closed alpha held earlier this year right here.

Outriders Pre-Load & Launch Times, Cheating & Lost Legendaries Address in Massive Info Dump

If you’re looking forward to Outriders, the wait isn’t long now! In just one week, players will be able to play the full game when it releases on April 1. For today, People Can Fly has released a load of info that touches on the Outriders pre-load and launch times, how cheaters will be affected (oh, yeah!), and loads more.

Head on below for the long read, which also includes official details on the Hell’s Rangers pre-order bonus and even post-launch support.

Outriders Pre-Load & Launch Times:

When Can I Pre-Load Outriders?

Pre-loading:

  • Xbox – Pre-loading will be live today!
  • PlayStation Platforms – Pre-loading will begin 48 hours in advance of release time
  • Steam – We are still determining our pre-load options here and hope to share news about the possibility of it next week.
  • Epic Game Store: Preloading is not currently possible.

What Time Will Outriders Be Playable?

Launch Times:

  • Rolling Midnight Unlock for Consoles:
    • Consoles (Xbox and PlayStation) will unlock at midnight on April 1st for your specific country.
    • For the USA, this means midnight EDT April 1st, which is 21:00 PDT on March 31st
  • Unified single global time for PC & Stadia:
    • The platforms will release on April 1st at 17:00 BST / 09:00am PDT
    • These platforms can only release at a single time globally (this is due to how their stores are set up)
    • Here is a countdown that will help you understand how long to go in your specific region.
    • This time is the standard PC release time for Square Enix and has been carefully chosen to ensure that the maximum amount of support and partner staff are on hand to deal with any launch day issues.

Hell’s Rangers Pre-Order Info (Check out the gearset and weapons here):

The Hell’s Ranger Content will become available via your stash for anyone who owns it. This means that even if you progress through the story without it, you will not miss out on acquiring it in game.

Please note that this gear is level-locked to level 10, so you will need to meet its requirements (achieving level 10 or playing on certain level boosting World Tiers) before you are able to use it.

People Can Fly Policy on Cheating and Hacking:

Since demo launch this has been a hotly debated topic, so we wanted to provide some perspective on it as well as outline our policy regarding cheating and hacking going forward.

For context:

  • At the time when we reached around 2 million players, we identified 200 players who had clearly cheated. In percentage terms, that’s 0.01%.
    • We can see you all. Yes, even the person who gave themself 600 Legendary Weapons. Smh.
  • We trust that this percentage will not grow by much as we move through and beyond launch, but below are the steps we will take to ensure that legit players will not have their fun spoiled as a result of cheaters.

Repercussions of being identified as having used cheats:

  • Repercussions are account wide, not character specific
  • You will not be able to matchmake with legit players
  • Matchmaking will likely take significantly longer
  • You will still be able to play solo
  • In future, your HUD will have a discreet but visible watermark placed on it so that gameplay footage created on this account can be readily identified as coming from a flagged account.

All accounts will be checked for evidence of cheat use on launch day – April 1st, and then at regular intervals thereafter.

Any account logs found to have evidence of cheating on them on or after launch day will be permanently branded.

If you cheated during the demo “just to try it out” but wish to go into the main game unbranded, you must DELETE ALL CHARACTERS AND ITEMS ON YOUR ENTIRE ACCOUNT in order to wipe the slate clean. You should not carry over any progress between demo and main game if you previously cheated but do not plan to do so in the main game.

What is considered cheating?

  • Intentionally running the game on PC without Easy Anti Cheat (EAC)
  • Modifying game files to enhance a character: levels, skills, inventory, etc.
  • Externally modifying game time to reduce time dependent features such as vendors and challenges
  • Using a trainer program or similar to gain advantages within the game
  • Using gameplay altering programs such as aimbots or wallhacks

Individual players who are found to be being regularly kicked by multiplayer hosts shortly after joining may also be manually reviewed as an additional anti-cheat/anti-grief safeguard.

Using performance tweaking software (such as RivaTuner for example) to improve a personal game experience is not considered cheating.

Farming is not considered cheating. Even though the amount of battering that that captain underwent could be considered unethical. RIPThatCaptain.

We reserve the right to update and change this policy in future.

Changes Between Demo Build and Launch Day Build:

Below is only a condensed overview. In truth, the launch day build contains a multitude of additional general improvements, balancing, bug fixes and crash resolutions.

Highlights include:

  • Lots of demo content bug fixes, including for example, mods on some Legendary weapons not triggering properly.
  • Balancing changes for various items, mods, enemy stats and loot drops.
    • Balancing is an ongoing process and we have learnt much from internal playtests, the Insiders preview and the demo over the previous months. However, we’re sure that we will continue to learn more from the launch of the main game and the feedback provided by you, our community. So, keep it coming!
  • Crossplay will no longer be in Beta and will be on by default.
    • PC players will be able to add cross-platform players that they have previously played with to their friends lists. Consoles will receive this functionality through a future patch.
    • Please note that if you turn Crossplay off manually, you will not be able to automatically matchmake with people who still have it turned on, even if you are all on the same platform. Direct inviting should still work though.
  • DirectX 12 will be the default on PC.
  • Added a “Quick Mark” functionality to your inventory. This will allow you to mass-mark all items based on their rarity in one or two button presses, rather than needing to mark items individually (which is still possible if preferred).
  • Improvements to the Cover System
  • Improvement to Travel Voting system used when in a group
  • Added information about internal cooldown mechanics for Mods to their descriptions

But wait! There’s more!

Find out about our patch intentions here.

As you progress through the main game you will also have full access to the crafting system, character levels, all World Tiers and more. No more Grinding for Legendaries at WT5! We recommend playing through the story and enjoying the experience first. Legendaries will drop naturally over time as you push your WT higher and get into Expeditions content.

Lost Legendaries and Item Restoration:

This restoration is taking place right now, as part of today’s maintenance (Thursday, March 25).

Restoration:

  • Is a one-off event for the global player population
  • Restoration will take place on March 25th and will restore any Legendaries lost before March 22nd
  • Only Legendary Weapons that were lost can be restored

Please check whether your lost Legendary Weapons have been restored once the Maintenance has ended.

Since we implemented our fix for this bug, we have observed a smaller number of continued reports regarding lost Legendaries. We believe most of these to be down to the regularity of the game autosaving rather than a specific bug. Put simply, if you found a Legendary but the game was terminated before an autosave could occur, that Legendary (or any other item) would never have made it into your server inventory/our logs.

Instances of this occurring include:

  • Players using specific farming methods that are so fast that they prevent the game from triggering an autosave cycle before the farming run is reset. In extreme cases, some players may go for long periods of time without autosaving.
  • Players crashing out of the game just before/after they pick up a Legendary.

We are continuing to investigate such use cases and we are looking into how we can mitigate against them in future.

While we hope that we managed to restore as many Legendaries as possible, we expect there to be niche cases of players not having a Legendary restored because it never arrived on our logs (as per the use cases above).

If this is the case, please reply to this sub-thread here so that we can track and be aware of how many cases were missed. We will try to provide news around further steps when we know more.

Day 1 Patch and Post-Launch Support:

We currently have a few patches undergoing testing and submission. It is our full intention to release patches across all platforms simultaneously, though this may not always be possible.

Below are our pre-planned patches. However, as with the demo, we will be carefully monitoring the launch and it is our full intention to on short notice hotfix any issues that we are able to reproduce and resolve on our side and that are deemed severe enough.

Issues of lesser severity that we are able to reproduce and resolve will likely be bundled into the bigger “Post-Launch Follow up Patch” for the sake of efficiency.

Day 1 Patch:

This is a patch we’re hoping to have ready and integrated into pre-loading even before launch. If everything goes to plan you won’t even have to download this on Day 1, but there is a possibility that this patch will release on April 1st (day one) and will therefore require an additional download.

  • Many bug fixes and improvements, with a particular focus on the latter sections of the game.
  • Performance improvements for pacing/stuttering that was observed during the demo
  • Camera Smoothing improvements for cutscenes and dialogues. This should reduce the camera shake that some players are struggling with
  • Cutscenes/dialogues frame rate improvements
    • PC cutscenes will have the option to choose from 30, 60, 90 and 120fps
    • Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 cutscenes will be locked to 60fps
    • Xbox One and PlayStation 4 cutscenes will remain locked to 30fps

Post-Launch Follow up Patch & Upcoming Optimizations

We have an additional pre-planned patch that is intended to address any recently-reported issues or bugs coming out of the demo that the run to launch didn’t allow us enough time to implement beforehand. The resolutions for any non-urgent bugs that are discovered during launch may well be rolled into this patch.

At this point in time we do not yet have a set release time for this patch as its release will depend on the amount of content we want to roll into it. We are expecting this to roll out at least a few weeks after launch. Newly discovered severe issues will be hot-fixed earlier and separately from this patch of course.

Below are our intentions for this patch.

  • Controller adjustment options such as deadzone adjustment, acceleration settings and legacy layouts.
  • Loading Time Improvements for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles
  • Further Performance Improvements for Co-op games
  • Crossplay friends list and invite system across all platforms. This will require you to be using a Square Enix Members account.
  • Bug fixes including, for example:
    • Lore collectibles bugging out on second characters

Whew! That’s a load of info! MP1st will extensively be covering Outriders leading up to launch and post-launch as well. Expect guides, and more on our end outside of the usual review.

Thanks, People Can Fly!

Yep, that’s about it. There doesn’t seem to be any gameplay-related changes. but if we spot any, we’ll be sure to let our readers know about it ASAP.

Risk of Rain 2 Celebrates Second Year Anniversary Big With New Survivor, Boss, and More!

This Thursday marks a big day for Risk of Rain 2 as it will be celebrating it’s second anniversary since it’s early access release. What better way to celebrate than with a big ole free update, filled with much new content, including a new survivor, boss, and so much more!

Previously announced back in December, Hopoo Games announced yesterday that their Risk of Rain 2 Anniversary (2nd) update will officially launch this Thursday, March 25 on PC.

“Our goal with this update is to really flesh out and round out the base game, and also be a ‘thanks!’ to all our fans that supported us through Early Access. A lot of the focus of this update is revisiting old items and finishing up content that didn’t make it into 1.0 release – we’ve added like 88 lore entries. Shoutouts to Sivelos for helping us do a ton of heavy lifting for these log entries.” The team said in their latest blog post.

While this update is jammed with quiet a bit of new content, the big highlight has to be the “new”, or more accurate, returning from the first game, the Bandit survivor. Yep, the Bandit is back, this time in all of the 3D glory that Risk of Rain 2 has to offer, talk about exciting! Of course that won’t be the only content dropping with the update, though more specific will be revealed once the patch notes drop. For now, you can take a peek at a breakdown of the confirmed content for the anniversary update.

Risk of Rain 2 Anniversary Update Content

  • New Survivor (Bandit)
  • New boss
  • New Items
  • Complete Logbook Lore Entries
  • New Skill Variant for Mercenary, MUL-T, Loader, REX, and Captain
  • Run History + Profile Stats
  • Quality of life improvements
  • Internal changes to support modders
  • and more!

Again, this update will be available for PC on March 25. Console players can most likely expect to see this update within the next month (hopefully). On the bright side though, while the majority of updates have staggered from the PC release on console, the Risk of Rain 2 Expansion 1 (paid and targeted to release in 2021) is currently planned (not guaranteed) to release the same day as PC. This news also comes from the blog as Hopoo announced that they have a new internal team at Gearbox who are focused on bringing parity between PC and the console versions when it comes to updates. Fingers crossed that does turn out to be the case, and perhaps hopefully cross-play is on the horizon.

Be sure to check back here on Thursday when the update is live for the full patch notes!

Street of Rage 4 DLC “Mr. X Nightmare” Leaks Online

It seems that an upcoming Street of Rage 4 DLC may have leaked from a recent Steam database update, pointing to the return the series’ most villainous baddie.

As spotted by Redditors, the Steam Database for Street of Rage 4 recently saw an update, which added a new package for what appears to be some sort of DLC for Street of Rage 4. Dubbed “Mr. X Nightmare,” little much is known about what kind of DLC this may be (story, new mode, or something else,) but for fans of the franchise the name should ring a bell as it directly references the main antagonist of the Street of Rage series from the earlier three games. For those out of the know, Mr. X was the final boss in the original first three Street of Rage games. In the conclusion of Street of Rage 3 he was apparently “killed” off, having his role filled in the fourth game by his two children, Mr. Y and Ms. Y. Not much else has really pointed (till now) to him still being alive, though this being a video game anything is possible. While DLC for Street of Rage 4 was confirmed last August, developer Dotemu hasn’t provided any new updates since that announcement. Hopefully with this leaking out it means that the studio is prepping to announce it soon, although they are currently working on Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtle Shredder’s Revenge at this time with Tribute Games.  We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any new development. Oh, and in case you haven’t already, be sure to read up on our glowing review for Street of Rage 4!

Xbox Insider Program Begins Testing Free-to-Play Games Without a Gold Membership

Good news! Microsoft has announced that they have begun rolling out a new testing phase for select Xbox Insider users, this time focusing on playing free-to-play games without requiring a Gold membership!

The news comes from an official tweet posted by the Xbox Insider account:

While we’ve known about the company’s plans to remove the Gold Membership requirement from free-to-play titles (f2p), one of the bigger surprises is that they will also be making party chat and looking for a group free with the policy change. It’s unclear if the latter features are system wide or strictly for free-to-play games, but regardless that  certainly bodes great for Xbox gamers who mostly play f2p games.

As for when we might expect to see these changes for everyone else? Well, it should be sometimes in the next few months when the new dashboard update rolls out. Should be hearing more on that real soon, so stay tuned!
