Destiny 2 Comic Pokes Fun at Tess Everis’ Exploitative Nature

Destiny 2 has received a lot of flak for its Eververse microtransactions platform. The face behind Eververse is Tess Everis’, a woman who is more than happy to take your money and leave you with unwanted loot. At least, that’s all I’ve experienced so far!

Reddit community member Taco144 has dedicated their first drawing of 2018 to explore Tess’ addiction to Silver, and just how far she’s willing to go to protect Eververse.

Pretty extreme, right?! Shame on you, Tess!

What do you think of the comic? Does it stay true to Tess’ nature? Let us know.

Click here to check out more comics and artwork from Taco144. (Spoilers: They’re pretty damn great!)

In other Destiny 2 news, a hidden Glimmer cap prevents players from earning it too quickly, the game’s second expansion is rumored to be called “God of Mars,”and Music of the Stars has now leaked online and the composer has encouraged fans to listen.

Intel CPU Flaw Poses Serious Threat to Users, AMD Stock Price Rises as a Result (Update)

Update:

We’ve updated the post for more info and relevancy (c/o Denny Kovacs)

Two critical exploits discovered by security researchers have been found to affect nearly all of Intel and AMD processors in use today. The exploits, Meltdown and Spectre, allow malicious programs to steal data being processed by the computer. This data can range anywhere from passwords, photos, license keys, confidential documents, and more.

Both exploits are the result of design flaws that allow a malicious program to use what are known as side channels to access system memory(which contains that data being processed) and record it. Currently, there is no known case of these exploits being taken advantage of in a real-world scenario, and there have been patches pushed out for Linux, macOS, and Windows to mitigate any security risk.

Furthermore, these exploits affect virtually everyone and all systems that rely on either AMD or Intel processors. This includes laptops, desktops, smartphones, and cloud servers.

Suspiciously, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich sold off $24 million worth of stock late last year before the vulnerabilities became public knowledge. An Intel spokesperson said the stock trade was “unrelated” despite Intel knowing about the issue for five months.

Intel and AMD have stated that they have worked around the clock to provide patches and firmware updates to resolve the security issues, Intel specifically stating that “By the end of next week, Intel expects to have issues updates for more than 90 percent of processors introduced within the past five years.”

Original Story:

Uh-oh, it looks like Intel has a big problem on its hands. A new flaw has been discovered with the company’s CPUs, which puts all users at risk.

The flaw, which is being referred to as the “Meltdown bug,” affects all Intel chips produced from 1995 onwards. When exploited, the bug can permit hackers with access to users’ sensitive information.

Intel has released a statement saying that the flaw isn’t unique to their own chips. However, AMD has responded, saying that there is a “near zero risk to AMD processors at this time.”

Suspiciously, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich sold off $24 million worth of stock late last year, after the problem had been identified, but before it became public knowledge.

AMD has seen a significant rise in share price, while Intel has seen a decline.

It’s not all good news for AMD, however, as another flaw has been found which can affect systems using Intel, ARM, and AMD. “Spectre” can affect computers, phones and tablets.

In happier news, AMD has stated that it is working together with Intel to solve the issues:

“As we typically do when a potential security issue is identified, AMD has been working across our ecosystem to evaluate and respond to the speculative execution attack identified by a security research team to ensure our users are protected.”

What do you make of this? Are you worried about your system’s security? Let us know.

WWE 2K18 Update 1.07 Slams Out, Less Than 1GB in Size (Update #2)

Update #2:

The full patch notes have been released by 2K over on their forums. While we did get the patch notes, 2K also mentioned “various other general bug fixes” that aren’t part of the notes.

Below are a list of some of the fixes in this patch.

• Fixed a soft crash when going into MyPlayer/MyCareer, then backing out to the main menu and re-entering.
• Fixed an issue where the host loses all functionality in private matches.
• Fixed non-functional run-in options after installing DLC.
• Ladders no longer briefly float after they have been knocked over by a move during a match.
• Fixed an issue with rope break failing to be called during certain pin combos.
• Fixed an issue of the superstars popping up in mid-air when attempting to perform a pin during the Avalanche Angle Slam sell animation in a match.
• Fixed some corrupted textures on Superstars.

XB1 Specific
• Fixed an issue where the game will fail to join the host’s lobby when signed out of the active user profile in-game.

There are also various other general bug fixes throughout the game.

Update:

While we await the official patch notes for WWE 2K18 update 1.07, you can check out the patch notes for update 1.06, which oddly enough, is the version Xbox One owners are getting now according to the official 2K forums. On Xbox One, the file size is 1.1GB.

  • Improvements to overall stability and other minor fixes have been made to enhance the user experience
  • Import a Show is Back (According to a User on Smacktalks)

That’s all we know so far, but once 2K officially releases notes, we’ll update the post.

Original Story:

Yuke’s has just released a new WWE 2K18 update (1.07) thats out now. Clocking in at 830MB on the PlayStation 4, the full patch notes have yet to be rolled out by 2K Games, but once they do, we’ll be sure to update the post.

One tweak that’s noticeable off the bat is that “import a show” is back, and that if you scroll down the main Downloads menu, you can see certain icons are used on the bottom left based on whether or not created wrestlers use stuff from the Virtual Currency (VC) unlockables or DLC (via Reddit).

The last WWE 2K18 update, which was released back in November 2017, had a few changes too, which you can read about here. You should also check out this hilarious video showcasing the game’s bugs.

If you notice anything post-patch, let us know in the comments.

GTX 1060 Becomes Most Popular Graphics Card on Steam

While the cryptocurrency mining craze had a dramatic effect on GPU prices, the GTX 1060 remained a compelling choice for gamers who wanted to get the optimal amount of bang for their buck.

In the latest Steam Hardware & Software Survey for December 2017, Nvidia’s GTX 1060 rose above the GTX 960 and GTX 750 Ti, to become the most popular graphics card on Steam.

Holiday spending presumably helped boost the GTX 1060 to the #1 spot, with many players upgrading their GTX 960 and GTX 750 Ti for better performance at higher resolutions and/or higher frame-rates.

Looking at the full survey, it’s clear that Intel is still beating AMD with 90% share, while Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are pretty equal. With VR continuing to grow, it’s going to be interesting to see how things evolve in 2018, and where the two heavyweights sit in a year’s time.

Are you a PC gamer? If so, which graphics card are you currently using?

New Battlefront II Mods Include Custom 32v32 AI Bot Battles, Sith Rey Character & More

Yesterday, we reported on the new Star Wars Battlefront II Pink Darth Vader character skin, a mod that can be downloaded and installed on the PC version. Well, there are now many more mods which change the way characters look and act.

Caution: Installing mods could result in account termination. Do so at your own risk.

The “Rey Sith Abilities” mod replaces the character’s original abilities with Darth Vader’s sabre throw, Emperor Palpatine’s dark aura, and Kylo Ren’s Force Freeze.

Rey also looks cool when she takes on the role of Darth Maul, swapping out the red lightsaber for a yellow one.

I’m a big fan of “Jedi Master Leia Organa,” too!

This “Darksaber” mod gives all heroes a Darksaber, which looks as cool as it sounds.

The standout mod for me, however, is “Arcade Overhaul,” which adds 32v32 Arcade Team Battles to the game, complete with AI bots.

Arcade Overhaul

Features:

– 32v32 Arcade Team Battles

– Tweaked the battle AI for skirmish bots to allow them to sprint

– Set “CombatIntensity” to High for all AI Classes

– Added “Hide” Parameter to all AI Classes to allow bots to fall back to cover when badly hurt

– AI “Suppression” Values Increased

– Increased AI “Engage” Distance; ai can fire farther

– AI “TimetoFire” for both Player And Ai are now the same

– Increased AI Movement Speed

– Tweaked AI Weapon Handling for each class (rof, range, accuracy) and removed any damage modifiers

– Added “EnhancedCoordination” in AI logic

– Tweaked AI fall back distance for all classes

What do you think of these Battlefront II mods? Are they bringing some more fun to the game? Or should EA crack down before things get out of hand? Let us know.

Paladins Battle Royale Mode, New Hero and More Revealed by Hi-Rez Studios

With the Hi-Rez expo now upon us, you can be sure that the studio will have some special announcements in store for their fan base on what they can expect in the near future for some of their titles like Smite and Paladins.

In this year’s expo, Hi-Rez announced something we’ve reported on last year though for a different game. The studio has announced that Paladins Battle Royale mode is an actual thing, and it’s called “Paladins Battlegrounds” which players will be getting for free! In addition to that, Paladins will also be getting some big features added to the game and of course a sneak peek on the next hero as well. H

You can check out the the reveal trailer for Paladins: Battlegrounds below.

If that reveal trailer caught your attention and are craving for information regarding this new game mode to hit Paladins, we got you covered. All you need to do is read the bullet points provided below on the key features of this new game mode:

  • Ride your mount through a massive fantasy-themed map that’s over 300 times the square footage of a typical siege map. All while exploring the map for loot through the four dozen outposts and tracking zeppelins that drop legendary gear.
  • Paladins: Battlegrounds mashes up the ability driven combat with the survival gameplay of a Battle Royale game offering a highly unique experience. Thanks to each player having a distinct rolls such as healing, tanking, trying to assassinate unsuspecting victims as a flank and dealing out damage to take out the opposing forces.
  • As with every Battle Royale game, Paladins: Battleground also features the constricting fog mechanic that makes the playable zone more smaller as time goes by. Making fights between the 100 players more frequent.

This new game mode is expected to arrive sometime during 2018 and as previously stated, will be added to the game at no charge.

While Paladins: Battlegrounds is a big addition to the game, Hi-Rez Studios isn’t stopping at just one new game mode. Paladins will also receive a Team Deathmatch game mode as well. You can check out the trailer video of it below, which also includes it’s own unique map “Trade District”.

Besides the announcement of new game modes to Paladins, you can also expect a new hero to be added to the game. Meet Moji, the name of the new champion rides into battle onto a two-=headed dragon which you feed snacks to reload it’s magical energy. A trailer for the new champ is provided below:

Finally, it wouldn’t be an Hi-Rez Expo without Hi-Rez Studios partnering up with Twitch to bring in free content to Twitch Prime members. This year is no diferent; as the free content will definitely have you stand out from everyone else as Twitch Prime members will receive a new mount type that will be added to the game called Battle Cats. Along with getting a pretty sweet looking mount, Twitch Prime members will also receive a new Bomb King skin as well. You can get a glimpse of both new items in the reveal trailer.

Paladins is expected to receive these new features aside from the Battle Royale game mode starting January 10. With the console players getting it a week later on January 17.

Steam Awards 2017 Winners Revealed, Includes PUBG, Warframe, The Witcher 3 & More

The Steam Awards 2017 winners have been crowned. The second Steam Awards event featured a range of categories, celebrating games which offer players multiple choices and paths to take, titles that make for an intense experience, and much more.

Here’s the list of categories, nominees, and winners:

Choices Matter Award

Games are about agency, and this award is for the game that has it in spades. Maybe it’s because there are 31 ways you can breach into a villains lair. Perhaps there are dozens of potential partners for you to build a romantic future with. Or maybe you find yourself constantly saying “Where oh where should I plant those turnips”? In all three scenarios there is a common bond: the choice was always yours.

  • Winner: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Divinity: Original Sin II
  • Life Is Strange Before The Storm
  • Dishonored 2
  • The Walking Dead A New Frontier

The Mom’s Spaghetti Award

There are games that make you excited. There are games that make you happy. Then there are games so intense that they elicit a physical reaction. We’re talking weak knees. We’re talking sweaty palms. We’re talking fear-induced accidents. We’re talking your friends reminding you to breathe. We’re talking about mom’s spaghetti.

  • Winner: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  • Resident Evil 7
  • Alien Isolation
  • Outlast II
  • The Evil Within 2

The Labor Of Love Award

This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the first unveiling of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.

  • Winner: Warframe
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Path Of Exile
  • Crusader Kings II
  • Titan Quest

The Suspension Of Disbelief Award

Let’s be honest: games can have some pretty ridiculous elements in them… from the stories that drive the action, to the items required to conquer obstacles, to even the protagonists themselves. This award is for the game that has a key component, which when described out of context, seems totally insane, but while playing the game doesn’t even make you bat an eye, because in the moment it makes total sense.

  • Winner: Rocket League
  • Saints Row IV
  • South Park The Fractured But Whole
  • Goat Simulator
  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

The World Is Grim Enough Let’s Just Get Along Award

Games delight and entertain us, giving us much needed breaks from the sorrows and low points of our lives… and let’s be honest, for a lot of people it’s been a rough 2017. That is why the SASC has chosen to celebrate a game that doesn’t involve combat or conflict.

  • Winner: Stardew Valley
  • Cities Skylines
  • To The Moon
  • Abzu
  • Slime Rancher

The No Apologies Award

This award is for the game that you love unconditionally. Does it have some faults? Maybe. Do other people not understand your love for it? Sure. But make no mistake. There is no guilt here. Only pleasure.

  • Winner: The Witcher Enhanced Edition
  • Rust
  • Mount & Blade Warband
  • HuniePop
  • Gothic II Gold Edition

The Defies Description Award

This game is like… well actually it’s more similar to…picture a combination of… ya know what, I can’t describe it, just play it.

  • Winner: Garry’s Mod
  • The Stanley Parable
  • Doki Doki Literature Club
  • Antichamber
  • Pony Island

The Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War Award

The Bard said it best. This game doesn’t necessarily offer the biggest explosions… it offers something better. Potential. Potential to be a rampaging force of nature. Or not. Who knows. You’re an agent of chaos and no one is going to tell you what to do.

  • Winner: Just Cause 3
  • Middle-earth: Shadow Of War
  • Total War: Warhammer II
  • Broforce
  • Red Faction Guerrilla

The Haunts My Dreams Award

This award is slightly a misnomer, because this game doesn’t just haunt your dreams. It consumes your thoughts every waking moment of the day. This game doesn’t demand your time. You give it willingly.

  • Winner: CS:GO
  • Dark Souls III
  • Civilization VI
  • Dota 2
  • Factorio

The Soul Of Vitruvius Award

The Vitruvian Man was Leonardo’s celebration of the ideal form. And in that spirit the SASC looks to celebrate the game with the most lovingly rendered character… be it human, alien, anthropomorphic cat people, or even a piece of produce.

  • Winner: Rise Of The Tomb Raider
  • Nier Automata
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • I Am Bread
  • Bayonetta

The Whoooaaaaaaa, Dude! 2.0 Award

The Academy wasn’t clear enough in the awards description last year. Let’s try this again. This award is for the “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” of video games.

  • Winner: The Evil Within 2
  • Hotline Miami 2
  • AntiChamber
  • Luna
  • CPU Invaders

The Best Soundtrack Award

There are very few things that can enhance a game better than music. The right song can set the tone for every aspect of gameplay, from simple exploration, to climactic boss fights. This award is for the soundtrack that captured the essence of their game so perfectly that it effortlessly immersed players into the game world.

  • Winner: Cuphead
  • Nier Automata
  • Undertale
  • Transistor
  • Crypt Of The NecroDancer

The Even Better Than I Expected Award

We’ve all been there. You get super excited for a game, you pre-order it, and you anxiously wait as it downloads. Then you finally play it. How do you feel now? If the answer is “Elated beyond words because even I, a conductor aboard the hype train, was blown away with how good this thing was” then you have found the perfect candidate for this award.

  • Winner: Cuphead
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Call Of Duty WWII
  • Hollow Knight
  • Sonic Mania

What do you think of The Steam Awards 2017 winners? Were they deserving, or should other games have taken the crown? Let us know.

ESA Wants the World Health Organization to Reconsider Gaming Disorder as an Addiction

Remember when we posted a story just last week that the World Health Organization (WHO) wanted to classify “gaming disorder” as a form of addiction?

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has now fired back, and has issued a statement requesting the WHO to reconsider their earlier proposal.

Just like avid sports fans and consumers of all forms of engaging entertainment, gamers are passionate and dedicated with their time. Having captivated gamers for more than four decades, more than 2 billion people around the world enjoy video games. The World Health Organization knows that common sense and objective research prove video games are not addictive. And, putting that official label on them recklessly trivializes real mental health issues like depression and social anxiety disorder, which deserve treatment and the full attention of the medical community. We strongly encourage the World Health Organization to reverse direction on its proposed action.

Important to note that the WHO’s proposal is only in beta form, and is not final.

Should gaming disorder even be a thing? I mean, do you know anyone who’s as addicted to games as much as alcohol, drugs and the like?

Report: Destiny 2 Development Rebooted in Early 2016, Why Eververse Is in the Game Explained

While the Destiny 2 community has a lot to say regarding the game, it seems there’s a very good reason why Destiny 2 turned out the way it did. Over on the DestinyTracker podcast, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier mentioned that there was a big reboot of the Destiny 2 development in early 2016 — yes, just a year before its launch.

Check out the video below to hear Schreier talk about it.

Reddit user THConer transcribed what Schreier said, which you can read below.

I think that it (Destiny 2) was made in a relatively short period of time. There was a big reboot of Destiny 2 at some point of early 2016. There had been a previous director who was directing the game before Luke Smith (who’s the current director) took over. So that guy was kind of put aside and Luke Smith took over. I believe that was in April of 2016 but I might be misremembering. Don’t hold me to that exact line. So if you think about it that way then they didn’t really have a ton of time. It had been a 16 months period between the reboot and when the game finally shipped.

In addition to that, Schreier also talked about the existence of everyone’s favorite microtransaction shop, Eververse. The tl;dr version? Bungie can’t continue pumping DLC drops every few months, and this fitted the bill perfectly (drip feed of content + money).

What Bungie decided was we can’t do this any more this is too hard for us to do (referring to releasing a DLC every few months) the tools that we’re working with are really hard to deal with. it’s hard for us to make this much content. it’s just hard to make content in general. And they said we’re going to do a smaller or drip feed of smaller stuff and we’re going to put up the Eververse and make money that way, and Activision said okay. it was a part of their renegotiated deal and they got to a point where they didn’t have to be cranking up so much content.

Important to note: the things mentioned here are not new, since Schreier himself did a report about it way back in September 27, 2016! You can — and should — read more about the entire thing right here.

What’s your take on this? If true, are you surprised or not at all? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Microsoft Pulls Copycat PUBG Ad Originally Created by Redditor

Two months ago, Redditor Macsterr posted an incredibly smart PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG ) ad concept depicting the player walking through one of the many wheat fields in the game on top of an Xbox One S in anticipation for the upcoming release of the PUBG on Microsoft‘s platform.

You know how they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Maybe not in this case. Macsterr noticed something peculiar about Microsoft’s latest PUBG ad campaign since, well, y’know, Microsoft’s ad was practically a ripoff of Macsterr’s. Nope, not even joking. Check it below to see for yourself.

A day later Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry ‘ MajorNelson’ Hryb announced in response to the Reddit thread that the ad was being pulled from all official platforms and that the issue was being investigated internally.

Well, at least Macsterr knows his stuff is good enough to be used by billion-dollar corporations, no? Just maybe, ask permission or pay the man first before cribbing his work?

Don’t forget, there’s a new PUBG update out now, which you can read about the changes here.

Destiny 2 Hotfix Changes Listed for 1/3/2018

Well, the hours-long Destiny 2 maintenance is complete, and that means something in the game has changed! Fortunately for Guardians, there’s no file that needs to be downloaded, but rather, just a server-side update. Yep, it’s a Destiny 2 hotfix and we have the changes.

Given it is a hotfix, there’s only a few tweaks made, and it’s for the Iron Banner, and Faction Rallies.

Iron Banner

  • Players who do not own Curse of Osiris may once again access Iron Banner when available

Faction Rallies

  • Players who do not own Curse of Osiris may once again pledge to Factions during Faction Rally events

And that’s it. I told you it was a short one.

In other Destiny 2 news, there seems to be a hidden Glimmer cap that prevents players from earning the currency too fast, too soon. This isn’t the first time Bungie has been caught throttling player gains, as the studio was called out by the community for changing the XP rate to make it slower.

Xbox One Kinect Adapter Discontinued by Microsoft, Prices Skyrocket

For those who bought an Xbox One X or an Xbox One S, if you’re still hoping to get a free adapter for the Kinect, you’re out of luck. Microsoft has ended its free USB adapter program for the Xbox One.

Not only that, but Microsoft is discontinuing the manufacturing of the Kinect adapter! This means that those who want to own an Xbox One S or an Xbox One X and wants a Kinect connected to it, must either find a retailer that has a few stocks left, or check online for second-hand units.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say regarding the Kinect adapter situation.

After careful consideration, we decided to stop manufacturing the Xbox Kinect Adapter to focus attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming accessories across Xbox One and Windows 10.

As one might expect, would-be entrepreneurs have already posted their Kinect adapters for exorbitant prices. Over on eBay, people are listing it for $199 and above, with some even going past the $230 mark.

This means the Kinect experiment is now officially over — at least for the Xbox One. Mind, it’s to be expected especially when Microsoft stopped bundling the device with the Xbox One S. And to think we all thought this was the future of gaming back then, no?

My take? Don’t splurge a few hundred bucks on something trivial as this. If you haven’t been using it before, I doubt you’ll be using it now. Don’t cave in to scalpers since there’s a lot of better stuff to splurge money on.

Will you be posting your Xbox One Kinect adapter online to get some cash for something that’s no doubt sitting in your closet? Or are you still using it even today?

Also, the free PS Plus games for January 2018 are up! You can go here to download them from your browser to your PS4.

Call of Duty: WWII Down on PS4 After Playlist Update

If you’re logged in to Call of Duty: WWII and suddenly got kicked out due to a playlist update and can’t get back in, don’t worry! You’re not the only one.

It seems Sledgehammer Games has rolled out an unannounced COD: WWII playlist update, which we don’t know what it’s for exactly. After installing it, players will be put in a queue to connect to online multiplayer. However, after waiting, players will be greeted with this little screen:

Over on the Call of Duty: WWII subreddit, multiple users have mentioned they’re experiencing the same, though some have said that they can finally login. I’ve tried it again just now at the time of this writing, and nope, still showing up as an error code.

Once Sledgehammer Games issues an update, or it’s fully resolved, we’ll be sure to let people know.

In other Call of Duty: WWII news, Sledgehammer released a game update yesterday though it doesn’t change anything aside from taking out the Winter Siege event. Speaking of which, if you’re a PC player and you’re affected by the Winter Bribe issue, don’t fret, Sledgehammer has something “special” planned for you.

Nexon Blames Underwhelming LawBreakers Sales on PUBG’s Success

Publisher Nexon is blaming PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ success as responsible for the disappointing LawBreakers sales figures.

In its Q3 2017 earnings report, Nexon mentioned PUBG by name, stating that the game made “the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and LawBreakers.”

Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our outlook, mainly due to the sales from LawBreakers being below our expectations. LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users. We had very high expectations for its launch; however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.

It’s worth noting that PUBG launched in Early Access towards the end of March, while LawBreakers released in August.

Do you think PUBG is to blame for LawBreakers lack of success? Or is it down to something else? Let us know.
