Fortnite Battle Royale Q&A Includes Details on Upcoming New Features

Epic Games’ free-to-play PvP title, Fortnite Battle Royale, went live this week on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

With the game having just released in early access, I’m sure you’ve got plenty of questions you’d like answers to. Happily, the developers have put together a Q&A, which will hopefully iron out those all important queries you may have, including if the game will be “play to win” and if they have any plans to implement vehicles.

Without further ado, here’s the full Q&A:

GENERAL BATTLE ROYALE QUESTIONS

Where can I download Battle Royale?
You can download in the following places:
PC/Mac – Fortnite.com
Xbox – Xbox Marketplace
PlayStation – PlayStation Store

Do I need Xbox Live Gold to play Fortnite Battle Royale?
Yes. You do need Xbox Live Gold in order to play Fortnite Battle Royale on Xbox.

Do I need PlayStation Plus to play Fortnite Battle Royale?
No. You do not need PS Plus in order to play Fortnite Battle Royale on PlayStation.

How are you addressing weapon bloom and accuracy?
We want to improve the overall weapon and combat feel as we move forward. Here are some of our most recent discussions regarding weapon accuracy and combat feel. We’ll include more information in the coming week:

State of Development
Development Priorities

Improving the weapon feel will be an ongoing process and we’ll continue to iterate to make the weapons feel right for the Fortnite Battle Royale universe.

Is Fortnite Battle Royale Cross-Play?
No. There is no cross-play in Fortnite Battle Royale. There is cross-progression between PC and PS4.

You’ll need to link your Epic Games ID to your PS4 account in order to enable cross-progression.

How will you handle teamers in solo play?
We’ve built a system to automatically and swiftly ban teamers in solo play.

How are you handling cheaters (aimbots, overlays, etc)?
We take cheating very seriously on both a legal and game development front. We don’t want to tip our hand by talking in-depth about how we combat cheating.

Cheaters are permanently banned across all Epic products.

I would like to report a player, where can I do so?
Please send all player reports to our Player Support team.

I’m having a game issue, who can I contact?
We encourage reaching out to our support team, contact Player Support.

BATTLE ROYALE NEW FEATURES

Will you add Voice Chat?
Voice chat is on our priority list and is a must-have feature before we consider squads done.

As a substitute, we currently recommend using Discord on PC and inviting players to private chat channels on PlayStation 4 or Xbox.

When are you going to introduce character customization?
The custom glider skins are the first example of our effort to introduce custom cosmetics, others to follow soon.

Will you introduce new weapons to Battle Royale?
Yes. We have a large arsenal of weapons to choose from in the Fortnite universe. We’ll have to see what makes the most sense when transferring them over to Battle Royale.

Will you add the ability to switch camera positioning from left-shoulder to right shoulder in third-person view?
We are aware that it’s a top concern. We are investigating how it would function inside of Fortnite.

Will you add a first-person option?
No. We’re not planning to add a first-person option. We don’t feel it fits with the design style of Fortnite. We may revisit in the future.

Will cosmetics be free?
Some cosmetics will be free, some will be be earned and some you may need to purchase.

Will there be Leaderboards and Stats?
Yes. We will have Leaderboards and Rankings. Regarding stats, we’re already recording a lot of player data and hope to have it visible in game soon.

I want to drive around. Where are the vehicles?
Right now we do not have any immediate plans to add vehicles. We’ve done some very early prototypes internally, but have concerns with how they’ll affect the flow of Battle Royale. We’ll let you know our plans when we have a better understanding of their impact.

Will you add more maps?
Yes, but not right away. We’ll also be looking into improving our current map, including adding more points of interest.

What else are you working to immediately improve or add?
We’re working to improve the feel of combat, controls, weapons, and movement. We’re also working to streamline inventory management, decrease time spent waiting in the lobby, and improve bus timing (so choosing when to jump has more strategy)

Find out more information on what’s coming here.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Why did Epic make only Battle Royale free? When will the whole game be free?
We still have a lot of features to add before the PvE campaign is complete. We will launch the Save the World PvE campaign for free in 2018.

Now that Battle Royale is free, does that mean that PvP development is complete?
No. Fortnite is still in development and we will continue to improve and expand both the PvE and PvP game modes.

Does Battle Royale mean that Fortnite is abandoning PvE?
No. The team has big plans and is continuing to add features and develop new modes to play, including the previously announced “Block Party” mode. Stay tuned for some spooky details on our October updates soon.

Will my progress in Fortnite PvE campaign transfer over into Battle Royale?
For now, PvE and PvP are not connected and we don’t know if Battle Royale will eventually connect to the Fortnite Campaign. We are considering cosmetic connections between PvE and PvP and compendium-like content, but we’re still figuring it out. Let us know what you think would be cool.

Will Fortnite Battle Royale be pay-to-win?
No. We will not sell items that give a competitive advantage. At some point in the future we will sell other things including cosmetics or compendium-like content.

Will you be kicking up a storm in Fortnite Battle Royale? Let us know below.

PS2 Games on PS4: GTA: Liberty City Stories, GTA: Vice City Stories & More

A bunch of new PS2 games on PS4 are coming soon, according to some newly-submitted ratings through ESRB.

What’s interesting, is that all of these titles are by Rockstar Games

Here are the four titles that you can expect to see soon on PS4:

In Liberty City Stories, former trusted wise guy for the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani returns home after spending time in hiding for killing a made man. Now, the streets of Liberty City are in turmoil, as warring families vie for control and the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. Deranged hit men, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and even his own mother stand in the way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone family control.

As a soldier, Vic Vance has always protected his dysfunctional family, his country, himself. One bad decision later and that job is about to get much harder. Kicked out onto the streets of a city torn between glamour and gluttony, Vic is faced with a stark choice – build an empire or be crushed.

In 2001, Max Payne arrived to set the benchmark for action gaming, earning countless awards and revolutionizing the genre with cinematic combat sequences fuelled by the groundbreaking use of slow motion and compulsive narrative-driven gameplay. Now, working together with Rockstar Games’ New York-based production team, Remedy has combined Max Payne’s hallmark gameplay with all new innovations and unmatched production values. Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne has raised the bar for action games all over again.

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition delivers insanely fast, open city racing in Atlanta, San Diego, and Detroit, complete with 8-player online competition and the most comprehensive vehicle customization ever seen in a video game. Drive the hottest licensed real life SUVs, import tuners, muscle cars, choppers and luxury rides, and trick them out with the latest rims, trims, and upgrades just like in the pages of DUB.

Which Rockstar Games classic are you most looking forward to? Let us know!

Call of Duty: WWII PC Beta All SMGs Nerfed, Crash & Connection Issues Being Looked Into

The Call of Duty: WWII open beta is now available on PC. This version of the beta includes some big changes, including a nerf to all SMGs.

SMGs were a dominant force in the console beta, so it’s unsurprising to see that they’ve been tweaked to be more balanced. Check out the other changes below:

  • We reduced the damage per second and decreased falloff range across all SMGs.
  • The STG44 Assault Rifle recoil was nerfed.
  • Minor buff to the fire rate of the M1A1, 1911 and P-08.

Condrey also detailed some of the issues that his team is aware of, as well as some fixes that will be rolled out during the PC beta period.

Issues the team is aware of:

  • Some players mentioned having trouble accessing the game. Whether this was due to bad connections or blank loading screens, we are working hard to address these issues and improve them as quickly as we can. We appreciate your patience!
  • We’ve seen several mid-match crashes during playing that we are actively working to fix.
  • We’ve identified some minor rendering issues and are actively working to fix these.

Fixes to be rolled out during the beta period:

  • Infinite level loads and time-outs when using shader pre-caching and letter-boxing
  • Crash fix on start-up for Windows 8.0
  • Fixes to the behavior of the Resolution/Render Resolution/T2X Resolution advanced video options
  • Fixes to the T2X Resolution setting not getting preserved after exiting the game

If you haven’t yet played the Call of Duty: WWII PC beta, check out the minimum and recommended specsto ensure your rig is up to the task. And click here to hear our thoughts on the game, as we answer “Is it any good?”

Destiny 2 Xur Items and Location for September 29-October 3, 2017

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for a Destiny 2 Xur location and items post!

This weekend, players can spend 29 Legendary Shards on the Riskrunner submachine gun.

Hunters can grab the Mechaneer’s Tricksleeves gauntlets for 23 Legendary Shards.

Titans can pick up the Hallowfire Heart chest armor for 23 Legendary Shards.

Warlocks can purchase the Transversive Steps leg armor for 23 Legendary Shards.

The Destiny 2 Xur location for this week is on Io, near the Giant’s Scar landing zone.

[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”14″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_imagebrowser” ajax_pagination=”1″ template=”default” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

What will you buying off Xur for this week? I’d recommend the Riskrunner for a powerful Arc submachine gun, which will be useful during Nightfall Strikes using the Prism modifier. Hallowfire Heart is also pretty great for Titans who main the Solar class.

In other Destiny 2 news, post-launch fixes were implemented by update 1.0.1.3, a secret map was found in the limited edition version of the game, an in-depth analysis compared kinectic and energy weapons, and we compiled a list of the best social space Easter eggs!

Tekken 7 Patch 1.08 Released, Includes Bug Fixes

There’s a new Tekken 7 patch (1.08) that kicks out today, and it brings in a host of bug fixes and tweaks. This is just a week out from the last Tekken 7 update, which rolled out just last week. While patch 1.07 had a ton of character balance fixes, this new one is mostly for game optimization.

Check out the Tekken 7 patch notes for 1.08 below.

  • Improved optimization of the game’s performance.
  • Removed “Max No. of Players” from the tournament matchmaking conditions.
  • Changed the information displayed about your opponent during standby for warm-up.
  • Made adjustments to the behavior of the throwing gauge in Ultimate Tekken Bowl.
  • Various bug fixes.

Unfortunately, player names online still can’t be seen, so lag matches are still happening. Hopefully, this will get sorted out soon. In the meantime, fight fair, and don’t disconnect before a match starts, alright?

Watch PUBG Played on a Game Boy — No, Really!

If you’re old enough, you might remember the Nintendo Game Boy, which is quite possibly the first dedicated handheld gaming console to ever grace the video game landscape (no, Game ‘n’ Watch stuff doesn’t count). Well, prepare to see someone play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on the device!

Check out the video above to see a modder Michael Darby run PUBG on a Game Boy Color. OK, he’s not really running it on the device’s hardware, but streaming it to the handheld. As you can image, given the Game Boy Color’s limited buttons, the game isn’t really playable at all. Heck, he can’t even reload! It’s quite a feat nonetheless and who knows, we might see a PUBG Nintendo Switch version happen in the future, though that’s highly unlikely.

In other PUBG news, developer Bluehole has gotten so much money from PUBG that it’s said that the studio is now worth $4 billion! There’s a new title update for the battle royale game out too.

Finally, make sure to give our video feature a watch on the top five PUBG console alternatives.

PUBG Studio Bluehole Valued at $4 Billion

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an unquestionable success, what with the game surpassing super popular games like League of Legends and more in terms of mindshare. To date, it has sold more than 12 million copies, and has pushed developer Bluehole’s value to the stratosphere.

According to an interview in Bloomberg. thanks to the success of PUBG, Korean studio Bluehole is now worth 5.2 trillion won, or around $4.6 billion smackeroos! Additionally, the studio’s founder, Chang Byung-gu, who owns 20 percent of the company, is reportedly nearing the billionaires list!

No wonder Bluehole is so concerned about Epic Games’ Fortnite Battle Royale; I mean, I would be concerned if a big studio might take some of that sweet money pie from me too.

In other PUBG news, go check out the latest game update notes to see what tweaks and additions Bluehole has made to the game. Those on console who want to taste some of that battle royale action, check out our video featuring the top five console alternatives to PUBG.

Don’t Expect Diablo 4 or Any Other Diablo Announcements at This Year’s BlizzCon According to Blizzard

With BlizzCon drawing nearer by the month, some fans might be looking forward to a Diablo 4 announcement by Blizzard at the event; what with last year’s BlizzCon highlighted by the franchise’s 20th anniversary by the announcement of the cathedral dungeon, and the Rise of the Necromancer DLC.

In a forum post on Battle.net, Blizzard Community Manager (Nevalistis) has confirmed that there won’t be any Diablo-themed announcements at the show.

Hey everyone,

BlizzCon draws near, and we wanted to give you an update about Diablo’s presence at the show. Last year at BlizzCon, we kicked off Diablo’s 20th anniversary by announcing the old-school cathedral dungeon (if you missed that the first time around, it’s coming back in January) and unveiling Rise of the Necromancer. This year, we want to give you a heads-up that while Diablo will be on the show floor, we won’t be making any new Diablo announcements. There will be a time for that at some point in the future, but that time is not now.

However, in addition to the special BlizzCon Diablo III in-game reward, we’ll also have Diablo panels for attendees and Virtual Ticket holders, and, as always, we look forward to a weekend filled with fun and revelry with the heroes who call Sanctuary home.

Patch 2.6.1 is on the horizon. Looking beyond that, we’re hard at work on the future of Diablo and exploring what’s next for the franchise. Please be patient. Our passion for Sanctuary burns as bright as the High Heavens and as hot as the Burning Hells—and we’re excited to hunker down and get working!

Until next time,
The Diablo Development Team

Well, there is the patch to look forward to for non-attendees. Maybe next year, then?

BlizzCon will take place this November 3-4.

SCUF Impact Review – Double the Power, Double the Fun

SCUF Gaming has continued to push the envelope when it comes to custom PlayStation 4 pads. This year’s evolution takes the form of the company’s flagship “SCUF Impact”, a controller that has gone through a cosmetic redesign to allow for more features to be added.

Prior to the Impact, SCUF’s PS4 range only allowed for two paddles on the rear. With the Impact’s additional space however, four paddles can fit comfortably. This means even more functions can be mapped to the back of the pad, making it easy to jump, crouch, stab, reload, change weapons, and more — all without having to take your thumbs off the analog sticks.

Paddles have always been the main attraction when it comes to SCUF, as they give a proven advantage in shooters. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, for example, you have to control the exo-suit movement while trying to aim and shoot. This is similar to the gameplay found in the newly-released Destiny 2, which sees players double and triple jumping around, all the while trying to aim accurately.

However, even in boots-on-ground games, the paddles have their uses. Jumping around corners while turning to aim is still useful, and it’s always nice to have a quick melee or drop shot at the ready.

SCUF is number one when it comes to the controllers eSports players use. And though I’m no competitive gamer, I still like to have every advantage I can get. Over the years, SCUF controllers have granted me thousands of kills and saved me from thousands of deaths.

When I started playing with the SCUF Impact, I only really used two of the four paddles — X to jump and O to melee — since that was what I was used to. However, after using the Electro Magnetic Remapping tool that allows you to swap the paddles’ functions, I found that the additional third and fourth paddles came in handy, as you can assign not only X, O, Triangle, and Square to them, but also Left, Right, Up, Down on the D-Pad, and L3 and R3.

This ability to tweak the SCUF Impact after purchase, keeping it useful and futureproof, is a trait that’s also found in other aspects of the pad. Though I’ve never had problems myself, I have read a bunch of horror stories about SCUF paddles breaking, or analog sticks wearing out. Happily, the SCUF Impact embraces modularity, with the paddles, analog sticks, trigger covers, and D-pad control disk all fully removable and replaceable.

This adds a little peace of mind on top of the usual SCUF 90-day warranty period for controllers, and 12-month warranty for broken paddles.

I feel it’s important to mention warranty when it comes to items like these, as it is a premium controller that rocks a pretty premium price tag. In the US, you’ll be looking at a starting price of $139.95 (without shipping costs included). So, again, it’s good that the SCUF Impact has gone modular with a lot of its features, as that should provide a nice boost to the lifespan of what is an expensive product.

Another feature unique to the SCUF Impact is the “Cable Retention System”, which when combined with SCUF’s own braided USB cable, is pretty damn tough to pull out. This keeps things secure, and unlike standard micro USB, is less likely to wear out and stop working or snap, even. SCUF Gaming is also using the new DualShock 4 controllers for their pads, so yes, that USB connection is low latency, and there’s a lightbar on the front as well.

Also worthy of mention is the trigger system, which allows you to tweak the initial activation and reset time. An internal part that you tune by inserting a wire and turning adjusts the time that games take to recognize your input, and the external trigger stops prevent the trigger from descending too far. These work together primarily to make for a quicker semi-automatic fire rate. So, if you’re forced to switch to your pistol, you can surprise the enemy by firing it extremely quickly!

Though I’ve had a couple of issues with the trigger stops falling out with previous controllers, and needing to put clicked back in, the ones on this pad seem solid.

Overall, I think the SCUF Impact is a fantastic controller. It’s awesome to see SCUF take a bold risk and combine DualShock 4 functionality with the ergonomics of an Xbox One pad. The only nitpick I have here, once you’ve swallowed the price — which is basically just SCUF charging the most for the best product — is the little headphone cut-out. I get why it’s there, but it’d be nice to have a little insertable cover for when it’s not in use. This would smoothen out the look and keep it totally pristine.

If you’re wanting to take your console game to the next level, the SCUF Impact is my number one choice. Of course, it also works with PC!

With the modularity considered, I think the price is now worth it. However, if it’s still hard to justify the purchase, do check out the “Send in Service” which allows you to send SCUF your own pad and have them pimp it out at a reduced price.

I’ll leave the links to Scuf Gaming, their Online Controller Builder, and the Send in Service down below in the description.

Pros:

  • Offers a tangible advantage in shooters
  • Remappable functions
  • Modular features
  • Additional warranty for paddles
  • Improved trigger system
  • Made using latest DualShock 4

Cons

  • Expensive
  • 90-day warranty period is a little short
  • Headphone input is a tad ugly

The Scuf Impact controller was provided to MP1st by Scuf Gaming. You can learn more about the Scuf Impact by visiting the Scuf Gaming website

Here’s what’s bundled in the latest Rainbow Six Siege update:

Deploy 3.1.1

  • Collision Issue Fix – Console

  • Renown in Lone Wolf Terrorist Hunt – Permanent Fix
  • Adding Additional Logs for Rubberbanding Data Gathering/Investigation

Ubisoft has been squashing a lot of bugs lately. A crashing issue being experienced by PS4 users was fixed last week, and a huge number of tweaks were included with the Blood Orchid expansion.

Overwatch Patch Notes for PS4 & Xbox One, Mercy Tweaked & Maps Removed From Deathmatch Rotation

The Overwatch patch implemented into the PC version of the game six days ago, has now come to PS4 and Xbox One.

The update primarily targets Mercy, while also making tweaks to the Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch map rotations.

Here’s the full list of Overwatch patch notes:

General

  • The credit that Mercy’s Resurrect contributes toward her on-fire meter has been adjusted to account for the recent changes in its functionality

Arcade updates

  • Hanamura, Horizon Lunar Colony, Temple of Anubis, or Volskaya Industries have been removed from the Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch map rotation, but can still be selected in Custom Games

UI updates

  • Made several adjustments to the spectator camera to improve the viewing experience

General fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused the audio from Junkertown’s front gate to play when previewing and opening Loot Boxes
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the stagger and knockdown VO from canceling active voice lines
  • Fixed a bug that allowed an incorrect voice line to play when firing D.Va’s Micro Missiles
  • Fixed an issue that caused the spectator camera to lose track of heroes and player-controlled objects (e.g. Junkrat’s Rip-Tire)

Hero fixes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented Genji and Mercy’s ultimate voice lines from functioning properly when the Oni or Winged Victory skins were equipped

Map fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused sound effects to continuously repeat when using a beam weapon (e.g. Zarya’s Particle Cannon) to destroy the motorcycle in the attackers’ spawn room on Junkertown
  • Fixed an issue that activated audio cues that are typically associated with enemy hits when shooting the motorcycle on Junkertown

Are you a Mercy main? If so, what do you think of the new changes?
