New PSVR Headset Announced, Updated Design & Now Supports HDR Pass Through

Sony has released a new PlayStation VR, which features an updated design which features integrated headphones and tidies up the cables, creating a new slimmer look. It also comes with a new updated processor, allowing HDR pass through.

For the full list of updated features see the Q&A below:

Is there a new PlayStation VR model? How is it different?
A hardware update to PlayStation VR is being prepared. The new version, model number CUH-ZVR2, features an updated design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. There’s also an updated Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit in between the TV and the PS4 system. This function can be used only when the VR headset is turned off.

When will the new PS VR model become available in North America? How much will it be?
We will share details on the launch timing in North America at a later date. The pricing of the PS VR bundles will remain the same.

How can I distinguish between the old PS VR headset and the new one when I’m purchasing?
The packaging for PlayStation VR will change slightly when the new model hits stores. To differentiate, look for the model number printed on the box. The previous PS VR’s model number is CUH-ZVR1, and the new PS VR’s model number is CUH-ZVR2. Also, the product image on the packaging will be updated to show changes on the new model, like the integrated headphones on the VR headset.

If I already own a PS VR, can I swap out my old Processor Unit with the updated one?
Because the cables of CUH-ZVR1 and CUH-ZVR2 are different, you cannot swap the Processor Units.

Are the PS VR games I already own compatible with the new model?
Yes, all PS VR games are compatible with both PS VR models.

The new PSVR headset model number is: CUH-ZVR2.

CUH-ZVR2 will be released in Japan on October 14. A US release date is yet to be announced. The new PSVR headset is priced at a standard 44,980 yen ($398).

Will you be purchasing the new headset? Let us know below.

Star Wars Battlefront II Beta Trailer Is Here and It Looks Fantastic!

In case you didn’t know, EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II will be getting a beta this later this week, which will showcase the shooter’s gameplay mechanics, added features from the first Battlefront, and more.

Just in case you did forget about it, EA’s here to remind you of it in style! Developer DICE has always been known to churn out some amazing trailers and Battlefront II is no different! From infantry action, to seeing heroes tear up the opposition, there’s something for everybody. Give the Star Wars Battlefront II beta trailer a watch and be thankful that everyone’s going to get a chance to try it this weekend!

We’ve posted a ton of Battlefront II details that you can pore over while waiting for the beta to kick off. There’s the complete maps list for both single-player and multiplayer, every game mode included in the final version, and the new class-based system warrants a look, too.

If you dig DICE’s Battlefield games and like the Star Wars franchise, then it seems Battlefront II will be the perfect blend for fans of both (like I am).

Star Wars Battlefront II will blast its way out this November 17 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Call of Duty: WWII PC Beta Achieved Five Times More Concurrent Players Than Infinite Warfare Beta

The Call of Duty: WWII PC beta managed to achieve a peak concurrent player count of 84,000, absolutely smashing the 15,000 peak set by Infinite Warfare.

The WWII peak player count also managed to beat the hotly-anticipated Black Ops III, whose beta achieved 63,000.

This is great news for Sledgehammer Games, despite the large number of negative Steam reviews.

GitHyp has compiled the number of WWII players per hour into a graph:

Those are pretty impressive numbers compared to previous years, and indicate a greater interest from players. Perhaps the return to a World War II setting has made PC gamers eager to play.

Call of Duty: WWII is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 3.

If you’re more interested in the single-player content, check out the story trailer here, as well as these four short videos dedicated to the main characters.

Did you play in the beta? Will you be looking to pick the game up at launch?

PUBG Bombarded With Over 15,000 Negative Reviews Following In-Game Ads

Despite maintaining record high concurrent player counts and sales going through the roof, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has recently suffered some unpleasantness.

Chinese players are reporting issues with in-game ads, which promote a “game accelerator” VPN service. The uproar caused by these ads has resulted in an onslaught of PUBG negative reviews, calling the game out for introducing advertisements into a paid-for title.

Steam user NekoApocalypse was one such PUBG player experiencing frustration. He wrote:

I BOUGHT THIS GAME FULL PRICE AND YOU GIVE ME IN GAME ADS!!!!!!! SHAME ON YOU BLUEHOLE!!!!

For those who do not understand what I’m talking about, I’m a Chinese player and seemingly Bluehole get parterned up with some ‘game accelerator’ software and put an ad ON THE LOBBY SCREEN. (Basically a VPN software that makes you connect to the game faster)

It says ‘The only official accelerator of the game’..

The ad appears only if you connect from China, so it wouldn’t be a problem for players elsewhere, but why did Bluehole even approved this? They are already charging full price for an early access game and now they put ads in it. What kind of developer do this?

Over 15,000 PUBG negative reviews were posted during September 29 – October 2, with the majority blaming the in-game ads as the main criticism.

Here’s hoping things improve for Chinese players!

In other PUBG news, Bluehole is in “talks” with Sony with regards to a PS4 version of the game. Speaking of the game coming to other platforms, click here to check out PUBG being played on a Game Boy!

Hell Let Loose Gameplay Shows There’s Another WW2 Shooter in Town

If you’re itching for an old school shooter and don’t think Battlefield 1 or Call of Duty: WWII will scratch that itch, then maybe this will. Here’s “Hell Let Loose,” a WW2-era shooter in development by Australian studio, Black Matter.

The game is up on Kickstarter (I know, I know, stop groaning!), and it’s already gotten over $63K (AUS currency) of its total $136,00 goal (also in AUS currency), which is a very achievable feat given the studio has 28 days to go. So what makes this different from your standard shooter? A lot, it seems. The studio says that there will be 100-player matches, which is due for Steam Early Access by Q2 2018, and will be priced at $29.99 when it’s available via Early Access.

Check out some of the details of Hell Let Loose.

BATTLE ON A NEW SCALE

A platoon-based realistic multiplayer first-person shooter for PC set during the Second World War.

HUGE BATTLES – 100 players per game, 50 per team

COORDINATE – Win through teamwork, tactics, and communication

A NEW METAGAME – Capture sectors and resources to beat your enemy into submission

COMBINED ARMS – Over 20 different player-controlled vehicles and deployed weapons

EPIC THEATER OF WAR – Do battle across a 1:1 scale 4 kilometer-squared map

MORE THAN THE TWITCH – Supply, capture and building systems

EXPERIENCE HISTORY – Historically accurate arsenal with realistic weapon behavior

A MODERN ENGINE – Developed for Unreal Engine 4

Developed for Unreal Engine 4 by a small independent team, Hell Let Loose places heavy emphasis on teamwork and communication as players work together as limited Roles in Platoons beneath the leadership of Officers and the force Commander. Using historically accurate weapons, logistics, armor and tactics, Hell Let Loose is a game that demands teamwork and communication not only to win, but to survive.

Featuring sweeping 4km2 maps, the battlefield is divided up into large cap sectors – allowing for emergent and constantly unique gameplay that pits two forces of fifty players in a fight to the death across fields, bridges, forests and towns. The first theater of war is the sleepy Norman town of St Marie Du Mont on D-Day 1944 in northern France during Operation Overlord. It features a stunning and detailed 1:1 scale battlefield recreated from archival reference material and satellite photography.

Players will organise and muster behind the front lines before carefully pushing forward into the French countryside towards the town. They will need to establish supply lines using logistics vehicles – enabling them to build Garrisons and other spawn locations in the field.

Armor and infantry must work together to smash through the front line and capture territory – pushing the enemy back and earning greater resources to sustain their fighting power.

Engineers will lay minefields and barbed wire to create choke points. Sunken lanes become killing zones while dense woodlands could mask the presence of a devastating PAK 43 – towed into position by a waiting unit of Wehrmacht infantry. Allied infantry call in strafing runs as hedgerows light up with the fire of a Panther tank and the scream of the Hitler’s Buzz Saw – the MG42.

The battlefield is laid out – ready to be mastered by soldiers with the skill and strategic ability to wipe the enemy from the field.

We plan to release Hell Let Loose on Steam in Q2 2018.

Instead of players capturing a flag, the entire map is divided into capture sectors, and once an area is captured, it will generate “three resources” for your team, which should help your team in victory. Check out some gorgeous Hell Let Loose gameplay below.

Bear in mind, this is pre-alpha footage, but it’s already looking fantastic. There’s also 13 planned in-game roles for players to take part in, which run the range from your standard medic, to tank commander and more.

Finally, Black Matter answers some of your pressing questions like, “why go the Kickstarter route?” and more.

I’m tired of big promises that are never fulfilled. Will this game ever see release?

We feel the crowdfunding fatigue as much as you do. As backers of several enormous and ambitious projects that never lived up to the hype, we decided that we would only begin our Kickstarter campaign once we had a playable client from end to end. That means launching the application, connecting to a server and actually playing the game at an Alpha level of quality. We’re thrilled that we can do all those things, and that all funds from this Kickstarter will go towards fleshing out and widening the scope of what we feel is already a deep experience.

Isn’t this the same as every other World War Two FPS?

As a team of realism and World War Two fans, we’ve always found there to be a profound lack of innovation in the first person shooter genre. Each World War Two game is either a run-and-gun blockbuster that places self-progression first and teamwork last, or it’s a remake of a classic title.

We have always felt that the genre could be pushed so much further – incorporating vehicles, open world battlefields, deployable fortifications, teamwork and realism all wrapped up in the beautiful graphics of a modern engine. This is not a World War Two title of last decade.

Fight Alone, Die Alone. Fight Together, Win Together.

We’re removing all the modern gameplay incentives that we feel focus the entire experience back onto the individual. How many kills can you get? What perks did you unlock? Which gun did you unlock? How do you build a team-play based game on a foundation in which all players actively want to succeed alone? This seemed very counterintuitive to us, as successful warfare is waged only as a coordinated force.

When reading veterans accounts of battle throughout history, there is a profound selflessness and camaraderie in fight for the men at your side. To reframe this modern day game design, we’re placing all emphasis on a team victory. But how is victory achieved?

Using teamwork and communication, players work together in Platoons beneath the leadership of Officers and the force Commander. Using historically accurate weapons, logistics, armour and tactics, Hell Let Loose is a game that demands teamwork and communication not only to win, but to survive.

There’s a ton of screenshots and more info on its Kickstarter page if you’re interested.

Will this be able to compete with Battlefield 1 and  COD: WWII? We can’t say for sure, but if you want to make sure it does see the light of day, go back it and let’s see how it’s shaping up early next year.

NBA 2K18 vs NBA Live 18 Graphics Comparison – Which One Is Better?

With EA finally deciding to release a version of NBA Live this year with NBA Live 18, 2K Games’ NBA 2K18 won’t be the only choice for hoop fans when it comes to basketball video games. While choosing one over the other is entirely subjective, there is one thing we can (kind of) definitely compare the two fairly — and that’s the visuals!

In the two videos below, you can see how the two games stack up visually. Which one “wins?” You make the call.

There’s another video that compares the two games’ graphics when it comes to player likenesses and all that. You might not think there’s a difference, but seeing them side by side just proves there is, and it’s a lot.

My take? This whole NBA 2K18 vs NBA Live 18 graphics thing can go both ways. On the animation front, NBA 2K18 seems to have players move more naturally. But on the graphics and of the line, NBA Live 18 looks to have done a better job with the players’ imperfections, blemishes and eyes. NBA 2K18’s eyes look a bit too weird, and in some cases, give off that crazy eyes vibe,

As for the gameplay experience, that’s completely up to the player. From what I’ve played so far, both have fantastic gameplay which could mean that hoop fans can opt to buy both this year. There is the case of NBA 2K18’s major microtrransactions issue that affects the career mode, so best to keep that in mind.

NBA Live 18 and NBA 2K18 are both out right now on the major home consoles and PC.

Star Wars Battlefront II Galactic Assault on Takodana Gameplay Described

EA has detailed what to expect in the Star Wars Battlefront II Galactic Assault mode. Focusing on the planet of Takodana, the write-up captures the action which players will soon be able to experience.

The forests of Takodana shroud the ancient castle as the First Order draws close. For a thousand years the wily Maz Kanata has made her home a haven for wanderers, but as the eve of battle approaches, the ramparts are manned not by pirates or smugglers, but by the forces of the Resistance.

Opposing them are a new generation of stormtroopers, highly trained Assault troopers, Heavy troopers, Specialists, and Officers, each with unique, complimentary abilities. Together, their goal is to seize Maz’s castle and crush the enemy within. Their attack unfolds in three stages.

First Order infantry begin with an assault in Memorial Hill, a tactical staging ground overlooking the castle defenses. Turbolaser emplacements deep in the Resistance lines make the skies around the fortress too dangerous for First Order Atmospheric Assault Landers to deposit troops near the walls, so the stormtroopers make their way through the woods toward the high ground and move into position to destroy the Resistance guns. A furious melee erupts around the high ground.

Assuming the First Order take the hill, they next set their sights on the turbolaser emplacements blowing their landing craft from the sky. As the firefight unfolds around the AA guns and players accumulate Battle Points, Flametroopers and iconic heroes begin to emerge on the battlefield. There’s plenty of space in the open skies above Maz’s castle, and dogfighting action rages overhead as TIE/fo and TIE/sf fighters take in Resistance T-70 X-wings.

The First Order continues its advance. With their turbolasers knocked out, AAL’s land and drop more stormtroopers, and the Resistance digs in for the desperate final act, a last-ditch defense of the castle itself. Battle spreads into the legendary cantina area, playground for some of the galaxy’s most colorful characters. Lightsabers flash, jetpacks thunder, and Wookiee Warriors roar as the verdict of battle is rendered.

Remember, this is just one of eleven maps which will support the Galactic Support mode. With DLC, you can expect even more!

Star Wars Battlefront II is set to launch on November 17 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Will you be playing Galactic Assault?

Destiny 2 Hotfix Patch Notes, Incoming Weapon Changes & Maintenance Period Detailed

Bungie has offered a preview of the patch notes for upcoming Destiny 2 hotfix 1.0.3.1. This hotfix will be implemented on October 3, during a scheduled maintenance period. Downtime will begin at 8 a.m. PT and end at 12 p.m. PT.

Here are some of the changes being implemented by hotfix 1.0.3.1:

  • Here is a preview of some of the changes you can expect to see when you download the update next week.
  • Fixed an issue in which players could lose access to the Veteran’s Transmat Effect by deleting characters
  • Fixed an issue in which clan engrams would grant Trials of the Nine and raid rewards at only 10 Power
  • Fixed an issue in which progress for the Exotic Quest Step “His Highness’s Seal” was not incrementing properly
  • Quest progress will still increment by 1, but the Quest Step now only requires 10 Seals to be collected
  • Fixed an issue in which raid milestones would not show for some players after the weekly reset (This didn’t affect any raid rewards)
  • Fixed issues in which players could enter a state where they are continuously killed or unable to resurrect if encounter complete and failure events occurred simultaneously

Once the maintenance period ends, the winner of the first Faction Rally will be announced.

Looking ahead to the first weapon and ability balance tweaks, Bungie pointed out that they “are aware of MIDA Multi-Tool’s popularity and are looking at it very closely.” However, they also warned that, while the weapon is indeed popular, “there are options out there that match or exceed its effectiveness in all activities.”

Aside from that hint, Bungie stated that they are “not ready to go into detail about any weapon or ability tuning at this point.”

With how dominant a force the MIDA Multi-Tool has been in the Trials of the Nine challenge, I think we’ll still see it getting a tweak.

Which Destiny 2 weapons do you think are overpowered?

If you haven’t yet visited Xur, check out his inventory here. Oh, and be sure to check out this secret map that was hidden within the Limited Edition version of the game.

I know what you’re thinking: some of these games aren’t exclusive to PSVR or just have PSVR functionality. Well, it seems Sony included that in the list of games, which technically counts as PSVR software.

Have you made the PSVR plunge yet? Surprised at how many games you can play on the device?

Need for Speed Payback New Features Outlined

While we’ve already seen Need for Speed Payback in action, Ghost Games has just released an “Under the Hood – Road to Launch” featurette on the racing game today that talks up the Need for Speed Payback new features that some people might not know about.

One of the key things mentioned is that “car wreck” cams, the short camera sequence that displayed when your car crashed, can now be toggled on or off. It’s literally as easy as flipping a switch in the menu options.

Another new feature is the inclusion of “air suspensions,” which are vanity items to customize your ride. Here’s how it looks like:

This is but a sample of the new things people can expect in Need for Speed Payback. Don’t forget. the racing game has a full-fledged story mode as well, which will be discussed at a later date.

You can also check out the Need for Speed Payback Trophies and Achievements right here.

Need for Speed Payback will zoom out this November 10 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Sledgehammer Games: Call of Duty: WWII Takes “Full Advantage” of the PS4 Pro

While the Call of Duty franchise isn’t really known to be at the forefront of cutting edge tech and visuals, that might be changing in Call of Duty: WWII. Speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine UK (issue #141), Sledgehammer Games boss Michael Condrey talked about how COD: WWII takes advantage of the PS4 Pro’s added horsepower.

“The new facial system, the new animation system, the new rendering physics system, [PS4] all brings that to life. This power, you know, we’re taking full advantage of the PS4 Pro and everything it’s doing to really bring that fidelity out.”

It’s also evident in Headquarters, he explains, with the 48-player space also taking advantage of what the supercharged console can do.

While Sony hasn’t yet revealed just how the PS4 Pro will make COD: WWII better in terms of graphical fidelity, one might assume that aside from a 4K resolution output, the PS4 Pro should help maintain that 60 frames-per-second magic the franchise’s known for.

If your gaming PC can run COD: WWII, don’t forget that there’s a PC beta going on right this moment and it’s open to everyone.

See the full list of changes, updates, bug fixes and known issues below.

CHANGES AND UPDATES

General

    • While in a Custom Training pack, pause the game, choose ‘Change Training’ from the in-game menu

  • ‘Stick Sensitivity’ has been added to the Controls menu

  • ‘Camera Transition Speed’ option has been added to the Camera menu

    • Increasing this value makes your camera blend between Ball Cam and Player Cam more quickly

  • ‘Always Show Nameplates’ option has been added to the Gameplay menu

    • When enabled, this option will prevent other players’ nameplates from being hidden even at long distances

  • All cars are now using one of the standardized presets for handling and hitbox introduced in the Anniversary Update

  • Rocket League is now localized in Polish on all platforms

Main Menu

    • To disable, uncheck the ‘Transparent Goalposts’ box in your Video settings under the Options submenu

    • When browsing customization items with audio (Goal Explosions, Boosts), in-game background audio/music volume will automatically lower

    • Winning half of your placement matches will land you near your previous season ranking

    • Rank requirements have been updated to distribute more players into Platinum tier and higher, and to reduce the amount of players in Bronze I

    • League Rankings will be temporarily empty until players complete their placement matches

Local Match (Steam Only)

The Last of Us Part II Poster Features a Hidden Image

With Naughty Dog having been super tight-lipped when it comes to The Last of Us Part II details, fans have been scrutinizing every small piece of information they can find, in an attempt to determine what the next game will entail, and what on earth has happened to Joel and Ellie.

In celebration of Outbreak Day, a The Last of Us Part II poster was made. Fans immediately grabbed their magnifying glasses and began inspecting it for clues.

Look closely at the bottom-half of the poster and you’ll spot what is unmistakably a wolf, with glowing eyes.

TheWolfHall explains one theory inspired by the image:

The theory suggests that the arm which is holding the hammer is of Joel, and the wolf represents his attitude. The wolf is usually known for its trickery, deceit and its pack mentality.

We all know at the end of the first part Joel lied to Ellie to protect her from the Fireflies, and hence it is very likely that Ellie discovers this trickery during the events of the game.

Commenter Danny DeMent has his own theory:

That’s a work hammer. If anything, it would signify rebuilding. Facing the wolf also suggests enmity, that the Wolf is a shadow of a threat. Perhaps Joel or Ellie are trying to rebuild, have a life, and this “pack of predators” comes along to threaten it? Maybe the Fireflies found her and are hunting her?

What do you make of the hidden image?
