Battlefield 4 Success With CTE is ‘Showing That It Works,’ Final Stand Release The ‘First To Go The Way DICE Had Envisioned’

In the coming months, Developer DICE LA hopes to turn things around for EA’s flagship shooter, Battlefield 4, now known rather unfortunately for its unstable and often bug-filled patch and DLC launches.

DICE Producer David Sirland believes things can change, however, especially with the help of the ongoing Community Test Environment that has already proven itself a major benefit to both the Battlefield team in Los Angeles and the game’s dedicated fan-base.

The “Fall Patch,” which launched late September on all platforms, significantly improved on Battlefield 4’s gameplay experience on nearly every front by introducing fixes and tweaks developed over four months of testing in the CTE, an open testing ground accessible to Battlefield 4 Premium members on PC since May.

Earlier last month, CTE participants were invited to test out brand new maps included in Battlefield 4’s upcoming Final Stand expansion. According to Sirland, it was the first step in a DLC release that, for once, is going exactly the way the studio had envisioned it.

I caught up with Sirland in a recent interview to talk about the CTE’s success so far and what it means for Battlefield 4’s future.

“I think, for Final Stand, our upcoming expansion pack for BF4, it’s the first time we actually did this the way we envisioned it to work,” he explained.

“So, basically, we showed stuff before it’s actually even Alpha and get a lot of initial feedback and then we will try to work on that and show it again and, you know, get another set of feedback and hopefully we’ll address a lot of the issues people had the first time around. And, then, eventually release it [as] hopefully a more stable and high quality release because of it.”

Having good luck with the initiative so far, I asked Sirland if this level of player engagement and open testing is some thing we can expect for Battlefield titles beyond Hardline, which is already benefitting from CTE improvements in its current pre-release state.

“I would think so, yeah,” he answered.

“As I said, it’s up to every game and it is a bit of a hassle to set it up initially, but I would bet so. I mean, just looking at the latest patch that we released this week, how much of a stable release that was compared to other releases in this game’s history, it gives us a lot of confidence in doing — because it had so many changes, this patch. It’s a huge patch. It’s almost like half an X-pack in terms of features, or code features, anyways, which is where big things can go wrong and you create other follow up issues.”

“We feel really confident that running something through a test environment where we have this amount of people — I mean, we don’t have a couple of thousands of people on there. We have a couple of hundred people active day-to-day. But, it gives us so many hours of continued testing and playing on these maps…”

“It’s just impossible to compete with that from a QA standpoint because we get thousands of hours compared to hundreds of hours. But I think you will see more of this in the future. I can’t talk for any of the other games in particular, but I think it will happen. I think we are showing that it works.”

What’s your take on DICE’s new approach to content and patch releases? Is Battlefield turning a new leaf?

Stay tuned for our full interview with Sirland later this week. For everything Battlefield, keep your sights locked on MP1st.

7 Divisions in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Ranked MP Confirmed, More Prestige Details

Those looking to get their competitive game on in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare this Fall have some new details to sink their teeth into.

According to Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey, there will be a total of seven Divisions to work through in Advanced Warfare’s ranked multiplayer, which we learned earlier would be divided into monthly seasons.

He tweeted the news, leaving behind a tease of what the Exo Suit armor earned in Division 4 might look like.

Major League Gaming also unveiled some exciting news for competitive Call of Duty fans, announcing an Advanced Warfare MLG 25K Open Series this November and an MLG Pro League tournament in December. You can get more details on the announcement here.

In addition to some of the Prestige details Condrey dropped earlier, he added in a response to one fan on Twitter that players will also be able to select one item to permanently unlock after Prestige-ing, similar to the way Prestige Tokens worked in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more on Advanced Warfare as we’re now less than one month away from launch this November 3.

New Insurgency Update To Introduce Night Vision Gameplay and HK-74

Developer New World Interactive is working on some brand new content for the next update to their highly tactical and unforgivingly realistic military PC shooter, Insurgency.

Captured from a recent beta test session, “mexicangangboss” showcases the new AK-74 weapon, a new map, and new night vision gameplay in the featured video above.

The map is the first to showcase the new style of gameplay using night vision goggles, highlighting some of the new visual effects like muzzle flash that players will have to take into account when opening fire on the enemy. The AK-74, meanwhile, is the smaller caliber brother of the AK-74, but with a higher rate of fire.

Stay on the lookout for more details to come on Insurgency’s next update.

You too can help test new features by joining Insurgency’s Beta Branch Group.

The Crew Launch Delayed To December, Gets Another Closed Console Beta in November

Ubisoft and Ivory Tower have announced today the delay of their open-world next-gen racer, The Crew.

Originally positioned to launch on November 11 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, The Crew will now release worldwide on December 2 and will also be getting a second console beta sometime in November.

Creative Director Julian Gerighty said in a press release, “Our philosophy remains to deliver the best game possible. We’re all committed to delivering a revolutionary experience in the driving genre and we can’t wait for The Crew to be in the hands of the players.”

This is the second delay to hit the Crew, which Ivory Tower and Ubisoft originally intended to launch in early 2014. Still, the decision is likely a good one, considering both Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Assassin’s Creed Unity both land on November 11 as well. That, and many racing enthusiasts may still have their hands full with Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 2 and Evolution Studios’ Driveclub, two stellar-looking racing titles to hit this fall.

Stay tuned for more details on The Crew’s second Xbox One and PlayStation 4 beta, arriving next month.

Destiny – Here’s Everything You Can Earn In The Iron Banner Crucible Playlist, Starting Tomorrow

A new merchant arrives in the Tower tomorrow — Lord Saladin — and brings with him new opportunities to score some sweet gear for your Guardian while participating in the new limited-time Crucible playlist, the Iron Banner.

The competitive multiplayer mode starts tomorrow, October 7, and will continue through to next week, ending on October 14. Unlike regular playlists in Destiny‘s multiplayer, the Attack and Defense ratings on your weapons and armor actually matter. Stat balancing is turned off, so you’ll want to bring your best gear into the ring with you.

Fret not if you lack the required firepower to measure up to other high level Guardians in the Crucible, however, as you’ll earn the chance to score yourself some powerful gear by simply participating in matches and completing Iron Banner bounties.

Courtesy of Destiny Database, here is a full list of the 9 weapons, 12 armor pieces, 11 visual items, and 10 Bounties that will become available starting October 7. Again, like the Queen’s Emissary, some of these items will be obtainable by completing Bounties and earning the required amount of reputation to purchase them. Others you’ll only find randomly by competing in Iron Banner matches.

Check them out and tell us in the comments below what you’re after! Get more details on the Iron Banner by visiting the official page on Bungie.net.

Remember, Destiny servers will be offline for “several hours” tomorrow morning, starting at 7AM Pacific, while Bungie improves server infrastructure with a new hot fix.

Upcoming Destiny Server Maintenance To Take Game Offline For Several Hours, Iron Banner Starts Tomorrow

Significant server improvements coming to Destiny tomorrow morning means services will be interrupted for several hours, developer Bungie announced in a news post earlier today.

Beginning on October 7 at 7AM Pacific, players will be unable to play the game until maintenance is complete. The down time is warranted, however, as the hot fix being applied “will improve the technology that enables players to connect to Destiny,” says the dev team. Gameplay will remain unchanged, but players should notice fewer connection issues.

Here are the details of the hot fix going live tomorrow:

Client fixes

  • Added more data logging for matchmaking systems
  • Improved connectivity failure handling to reduce beaver (Kick To Orbit events) KTOs
  • Improved logging of player disconnections
  • Internal tools fixes to speed up our release process
  • Fixes to the roster system to allow us to tune the frequency of roster updates on Xbox One
  • Fixed a bug that allowed users to quick scope on some weapons

Server Fixes

  • Security fixes
  • Server performance improvements
  • Fixes to reduce the frequency of some KTOs
  • Better logging to help diagnose connectivity problems
  • Fixes to some Centipede errors that were exclusive to specific player characters

As a reminder, Destiny’s Iron Banner Crucible playlist also begins tomorrow and will, of course, likely be affected by the down time. You’ll have plenty of time to participate and earn special Gear, Emblems, Shaders, and Ships, however, as the playlist will be sticking around until October 14.

Screen Shot 2014-10-06 at 2.31.48 PM

For those don’t remember, the Iron Banner takes your weapon and gear stats a little more seriously, so you’ll want to bring your best equipment into the Crucible. You’ll be able to visit Lord Saladin in the same area of the Tower that you found the Queen’s Emissary.

Advanced Warfare Gameplay Clips Highlight New Scorestreak Modules and MP Medals

A series of short Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare gameplay clips have been spotted on the game’s official YouTube channel, each showing off either a new Scorestreak Module or a new Multiplayer Medal that can be earned by killing enemies in a particular way.

With new tech and abilities in Advanced Warfare, you’ll find new ways to take out your enemies. The Death from Above and Terminated MP Medals are two examples of these, earned by killing an enemy while attacking from above, or getting the drop on someone with a Goliath Scorestreak, respectively.

The other gameplay clips show off a single Scorestreak, the Remote Turret, that has been customized completely differently through the use of different Scorestreak modules. It goes to show that while Advanced Warfare seemingly doesn’t offer as many Scorestreaks as previous titles, the ability to customize each one adds more variety than you might think.

Check out all four videos below.

Mortal Kombat X – Check Out Quan-Chi’s Brutal Fatality Uncut

Following latest character reveal of Mortal Kombat’s most notorious sorcerer, Quan-Chi, You may have noticed something missing from the trailer, much like Kano’s and Raiden’s introductory videos.

What makes Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat? The series’ staple “Fatality” finishing moves, of course, and like Kano and Raiden, we didn’t get to see Quan-Chi’s Fatality in its entirety during his reveal trailer. That is, until now, as off screen footage of his teased fatality recently hit the internet.

[youtube id=”h9UeJaoy_ME”]

For someone who holds the record for the best and worst fatalities in Mortal Kombat history, where do you rank Quan-Chi’s newest?

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms. Those who pre-order Mortal Kombat X will also be able to play as the Shokan prince, Goro.

New Halo: Combat Evolved Screens and Details From The Master Chief Collection

Halo fans picking up The Master Chief Collection this November are in for a treat when, for the first time, the original Halo: Combat Evolved will not only be playable on Xbox One, but will also be playable on Xbox Live, complete with online matchmaking.

Players will be able to match up with others online to compete in Halo: CE’s various competitive multiplayer modes, including “all of the game types and custom game type options you remember” from the original, according to developer 343 Industries in a recent Q&A.

The studio also explained that matchmaking will cater to a variety of playlists, with or without radar, and will include all of the multiplayer maps that were originally exclusive to the PC version of Halo: CE, which you already may know. Some of the PC weapons, however, like the Flamethrower and Fuel Rod Gun will not be available.

You can read the full Q&A here and check out two brand new Halo: CE screens on Xbox One below. According to 343, footage of Halo: CE running on Xbox One is “on the way”, so stay tuned.

Halo Halo

Halo: CE launches with Halo: The Master Chief Collection this November 11, along with Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo: Nightfall, and access to the Halo 5: Guardians beta.

Advanced Warfare’s Atlas Gorge Map Included in Season Pass, More Details on Supply Drops and Ranked MP

The classic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map Pipeline is making a next-gen return in Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, reimagined as Atlas Gorge, a central Chinese location based on the Three Gorges Dam.

Though it was originally thought that the map would only be offered in Advanced Warfare’s Atlas Limited, Atlas Pro, and Digital Pro editions, the studio has now confirmed that will also be included as a part of Advanced Warfare’s Season Pass.

Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey cleared that up on Twitter where he also confirmed that Advanced Warfare will ship with 14 multiplayer maps in total, including Atlas Gorge.

Condrey also answered a few questions about Supply Drops, mentioning that gear acquire through this new feature will carry over into new Prestige ranks. So, if you decide to Prestige after reaching Advanced Warfare’s max rank of 50. you won’t lose anything you’ve earned through Supply Drops. That said, you will need to unlock your base weapons again before gaining access to certain weapon loot you already own.

Special loot will also be rewarded to players based on their season performance in Advanced Warfare’s ranked multiplayer playlists. Condrey also confirmed that seasons will last one month long, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s League Play.

We recently got to see some of Advanced Warfare’s highest level unlocks which you can check out right here.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ships November 3 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
