Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel May Come to Xbox One, PS4

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is sticking to an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC launch this Fall due to the popularity of those platforms, said Gearbox Studio head Randy Pitchford, but that doesn’t mean the loot-based FPS RPG won’t ever make an appearance on Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen — now curren-gen — platforms.

“If fans say, ‘Hey, we’d really like this on a next-gen console,’ well, we’ll think about that,” 2K Australia studio head Tony Lawrence recently told Gamereactor TV.

Currently, The Pre-Sequel is being developed on the older Borderlands 2 engine. The studios aren’t making any promises to upgrade to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 just yet, their argument being that the player install base isn’t large enough to warrant the extra development time and cost. According to franchise director Matt Armstrong, “requiring people to buy new hardware to play the middle [game in] a trilogy … feels a little disingenuous.”

But depending on the game’s performance and the number of players upgrading to new hardware, it’s not out of the question that a next-gen port may happen.

Armstrong added, “We’ll see how people react to the game, how much fun they have and whether or not everybody moves on to the next gen fully next year.”

Would you rather play The Pre-Sequel on your Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launches October 14. While you wait, check out this E3 2014 gameplay walkthrough:

Report – Non-Final List of Destiny PvP Game Modes

A sharp pair of eyes has discovered what could be a list of competitive multiplayer game modes inside Bungie’s upcoming shared-world shooter, Destiny.

Reddit user NeonDr posted this image of Destiny’s mobile companion app listing a number of Destiny’s game modes of both the PvE and PvP variety.

Strikes, Raids, and Exploration aren’t anything new, but the studio has been keeping quiet about Destiny’s PvP game modes, with the exception of Control (find gameplay here). The app lists Skirmish, Lockdown, Team, and Rumble as new game modes which we really know nothing about at this point, other than their names. Check it out below:

i564ohpThere could certainly be more, so this is by no means the final or complete list of Destiny’s PvP game modes.

Given Bungie’s previous history with Halo, it might be a safe bet that Team is a straight up Team Deathmatch game mode while Rumble is made up of Free-For-All matches. We already know Control is a Domination-style game mode, but it’s not clear what Skirmish or Lockdown might entail.

What are your thoughts?

Destiny hits Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on September 9.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Gets a New Trailer, New Halo 2 Anniversary Details

Halo developer 343 Industries recently took the stage at an RTX 2014 panel to discuss Halo: The Master Chief Collection and dish out a few new details on the remastered Halo 2 Anniversary Edition.

A few items that we previously pointed out in our “Everything You Need to Know About Halo: The Master Chief Collection” were reiterated, but the panel did reveal a few interesting bits of info about some of the things we can expect from the newest version of Halo 2’s multiplayer.

First off, Coagulation will return as a playable multiplayer map in Halo 2 Anniversary. We didn’t catch any in-game screen shots, but concept art was briefly shown. UPDATE: Coagulation concept art, via HaloArchive:

Players will also notice a few structural differences in the new version of Ascension, a map that was previously showcased at E3 2014 during Microsoft’s press conference. Now, players will be able to activate a giant energy shield in middle of a map that will provide additional cover. You can check it out in action below, courtesy of Beyond Entertainment.

You’ll find new game types like Ricochet, Race, SWAT, Infection, “and more!” Also introduced to the mix of weapons and vehicles is the Assault Rifle, Silenced SMG, Speed Boost, and Mongoose, along with a brand new vehicle to the series called the M274-M “Gungoose,” which is essentially a Mongoose with guns attached to it.

Check Out this Independence Day Easter Egg in Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 developers DICE are throwing a fun little easter egg on the game’s Dawnbreaker map that celebrates the 4th of July and Independence day.

It’s only viewable inside the Community Test Environment, but that’s why Battlefield 4 YouTube personality JackFrags was kind enough to capture footage of it and post it for all to see.

If you’re a participant, you can go ahead and try it for yourself. There are fire works, patriotic jet trails, and grenades and RPGs that explode in colorful displays of red, white, and blue.

We’re not sure if we’ll ever see it on public servers, though that would be pretty cool. For now, you can check it out above.

SCUF 4PS Competitive PlayStation 4 Controller Begins Shipping Next Month

Scuf Gaming has narrowed down a launch date for the Scuf 4PS PlayStation 4 controller designed for competitive gamers in the first-person or third-person shooter scene.

According to the latest press release sent to MP1st, the Scuf 4PS, originally announced last May, will begin shipping within the first two weeks of August with 14 unique front shell designs and more to come in the following months.

SCUF 4PS

In addition to the Scuf 4PS’ extensive customization options, some of its biggest design improvements appear in the form of two “Scuf Hook” back paddles that allow you to easily perform functions normally found on the controller’s face buttons while keeping your thumbs on the thumb sticks and distraction-free. They ship standard with an X and O configuration but can be reconfigured using Scuf’s Electro Magnetic Remapping Key, which will be offered at a later date.

On top of that, the new controller will come standard with Scuf’s Pro Grip handles, which are normally found as an upgrade option, and will allow gamers to choose between domed or concave thumb sticks in three different lengths. Also, the new removable Control Disc is meant to deliver extra precision for D-pad users, which is especially helpful in fighting and sports games.

You can create and pre-order your own Scuf 4PS, or just learn more about it, by visiting Scuf Gaming’s official website.

Are you an FPS fanatic thinking about picking one up next month?

Bungie Releases 5 Panorama Images of Exotic Locations in Destiny, Expect No More Reveals Until Launch

Check out five 360 degree panorama images of exotic locations you’ll be able to explore in Destiny when it launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on September 9.

The images come from Bungie’s latest Weekly Update, where community manager David “DeeJ” Dague answers questions from the Bungie community about the studio’s upcoming shared-world shooter.

According to one answer, it sounds like the studio will be keeping a tight lid on Destiny info up to the game’s official launch in an effort to allow players the pleasure of discovery all to their their own.

“At this point, every question about Destiny is a spoiler,” Dague answered one fan anxious to learn more. “If you want to play, every other question we answer subtracts from the experience that lies in waiting for you. If you don’t want to play… Well, at this point, there’s not much else we can tell you. The game has been out there for all to see. All that’s missing are some essential hands on some essential controllers.”

Either way, gamers will be getting a good dose of Destiny when the official Beta launches on July 17, first for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 users, that will likely satisfy any itch to learn more about the game. If it’s anything like the First Look Alpha, it will likely leave a good taste in your mouth and wet your appetite for the full launch in September.

We do, however, expect to maybe possibly hear something cool on Bungie Day this July 7.

Meanwhile, check out these pretty panorama images we mentioned earlier:

tower_pano

“The Tower, overlooking the last safe city on Earth.”

cosmo_pano

“The Cosmodrome, made strange by the passage of time.”

moon_pano

“The Hellmouth Citadel, many chambers below the surface of the Moon.”

venus_pano

“The Shattered Coast of Venus, claimed by nature (and Vex).”

mars_pano

“Beyond the Buried City, across the crimson dunes of Mars.”

Report – Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth Launches July 15, Premium Now 20% Off On Origin [Updated]

Update 1

According to a recent announcement from EA Origin, Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth DLC will launch on July 15 for Premium members.

Screen Shot 2014-07-03 at 2.30.10 PM

Update 2

EA Origin has since removed and revised the tweet above to read, “Save 20% on #BF4 Premium right now, then jump into #DragonsTeeth 2 weeks early.”

Screen Shot 2014-07-03 at 2.45.47 PM

It sounds to us like the July 15 date wasn’t meant to slip just yet. If it proves true, however, it should put Dragon’s Teeth DLC’s public launch at July 29.

Original Story

Battlefield 4 developers DICE are now offering Premium subscriptions to PC users at a 20% discount.

The subscription-based service that launched along side Battlefield 4 in October 2013 offers a discount on all five of the game’s multiplayer expansions, access to exclusive Premium events, priority in server queues, and an assortment of bonus Battlepacks including a number of exclusive customization options.

Downloading it will get you instant access to all previously released content, including the Second Assault throwback DLC that offers four fan-favorite Battlefield 3 maps remastered in Frostbite 3, along with Chinese mainland-themed China Rising DLC and naval warfare-themed Naval Strike DLC.

In the pipeline are two upcoming expansions as well, including the urban combat-themed Dragon’s Teeth DLC, and the Final Stand DLC, which we know very little of other than the glimpse shown in the latest Battlefield 4 Premium Trailer that you can catch above.

Visit the official page on Origin to get it for $40 USD, if you’re up for it. Now might be a good a time as any to get back into the swing of things considering some of the incoming improvements to Battlefield 4, thanks to ongoing experiments inside the recently launched Community Test Environment.

Watch Advanced Warfare’s E3 Demo in 60 FPS, New Analysis Suggests Wobbly Frame Rate at 900p Display

A new analysis of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s E3 2014 single player demo once again suggests a near-900p display on the Xbox One, but uncharacteristically shows a weakness in frame rate this time around.

According to Digital Foundry, Advanced Warfare’s frame rate dips to the 40s and even 30s on occasion, which is most notable during the intro sequence and during some of the heavier action sequences throughout the demo. No need to grab your pitchforks just yet, however, as not only is the footage representative of a 6- or 7-month early build of the game, but it also debuted prior to the Xbox One’s critical XDK update that would have allowed developer Sledgehammer Games to tap into an additional 10% of GPU bandwidth. In addition, multiplayer level design in Call of Duty tends to favor performance over visual flair in order to maintain a solid 60 FPS.

But, for now, you can see the measurements for yourself in this analysis video:

[youtube id=”itNFYTmXTw8″]

Improvements to Sledgehammer’s new engine, however, are most prevalent in the usage of advanced full-screen and object-based motion blur, dynamic lighting techniques, shadow rendering techniques, physics-driven particle effects, and reflections. Along with improved audio processing and state-of-the-art motion capture technology, Advanced Warfare is still on course to push what sort of expectations you might have of a Call of Duty game.

You can read up on Digital Foundry’ full detailed analysis of the E3 demo right here.

If you’ve yet to watch Advanced Warfare’s “Induction” E3 gameplay demo running at an optimal frame rate, you can catch the 60 FPS version right here, courtesy of Eurogamer.

Latest Battlefield 4 CTE Update Improves HUD Clutter and Character Flinching, Check Out the Tweaks

In the most recent update to hit Battlefield 4‘s Community Test Environment, developer’s behind the military shooter are cracking down on a number of annoyances like HUD clutter and character head flinching.

Users participating in the CTE have begun noting some of the new options the studio has introduced to Battlefield 4’s menus that allow players to tweak and customize the in-game heads-up-display to varying degrees. HUD clutter has been a notable issue since Battlefield 3, especially in modes with five or more objective markers and large player counts, so it’s about time efforts are being focused in this area. Improvements have already been spotted in Visceral Games’ upcoming Battlefield Hardline — some HUD elements now disappear when aiming down sight — but DICE is now working to include these in Battlefield 4 via testing in the CTE.

Head bobbing has also been reduced, meaning you’ll have an easier time landing head shots on enemies behind cover.

HUD improvements, head flinching, and tweaks to other elements of the game were recently mentioned in a Battlefield Blog post as fixes coming to Battlefield 4 in a future update. Now, thanks to members of the Battlefield community and participants of the CTE, we’re getting a better look at the specifics via footage of the new changes. Above, we’ve included footage from Harri Does Gaming who goes over some of these improvements, while another vid from XfactorGaming below goes into specifics with some of the new HUD options.

[youtube id=”J0RZLoKobvg”]

Earlier, the studio also made a few note-worthy tweaks to Battlefield 4’s suppression system in the CTE, which are certainly for the better. You’ll find the details right here.

Keep them improvements coming, DICE. It might have been a long time coming, but with every update, it looks like we’re getting closer and closer to the Battlefield 4 we’ve always wanted.

After an extensive first look at NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming fighter, Mortal Kombat X, throughout the week of E3, MK fanatics were left wondering what characters, old or new, will make up the final roster for the tenth installment in the popular series.

In addition to Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Casey Cage, Kotal Kahn, D’Vorah and FerraTorr, it looks like we won’t be waiting that much longer for the next character reveal. On Twitter, Boon has once again begun another cryptic countdown which appears to conclude during the EVO tournament, starting on July 11. The studio did something similar with Injustice: Gods Among Us, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this were the case. Check out Boon’s tweets below, where you can make out the count down. What a sneaky guy.
