Killzone Dev Hiring For Unannounced Project With Microtransactions and “Large Social Features”

Guerrilla Games, developer of the PlayStation 4-exclusive shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall, is hiring for a new unannounced IP, looking for experience with microtransaction models and a large social focus.

We learned last year that the studio was confirmed to be working on a new IP when lead designer Eric Boltjes said, “As a studio we do want to branch out, and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone.”

It has now been pointed out that Guerrilla Games is hiring Regular/Senior Online Designers who have “Developed micro-transactions and/or nontraditional recurring revenue models.” and, “Have developed or supported online gaming communities or titles with a large ‘social’ focus.”

The studio is also looking for talent who have heavy experience with online games and who have a proven track record of shipping games with a “significant online focus.” Applicants must also have “systems design experience; game modes, player progression, balancing, leveling, end game design, etc.”

It appears now that the page describing the job posting has been removed.

Whatever Guerrilla Games is working on certainly sounds intriguing, but it looks like we’ll have to hang tight and hope for an announcement at this year’s E3.

Thanks, VG247.

Destiny’s End Game Is All About Gear Collection, Six-Player Raids, and High-Level PvP

We recently learned that developer Bungie isn’t planning on making you grind your way to maximum rank in their upcoming shared-world shooter, Destiny. So what happens once you reach Destiny’s ‘end game’?

Investment lead Tyson Green explained to Eurogamer that though reaching Destiny’s level cap is “actually a pretty quick process”, the studio “wanted levelling up and reaching a cap something you don’t look at and say, ‘well, that will take me weeks so therefore I can’t play with my friends who are already at the level cap.'”

Once you do reach that cap, Green says Destiny then becomes a “gear collection game” comparable to Blizzard’s Diablo series.

Along with more Strike missions, six-player Raids also become available, as well as higher levels of PvP that pit Guardians with better weapons and armor against each other. You can also unlock more abilities in your Focus, which Green says is a “longer tail process.” Players should expect to work long and hard to unlock all your Focus’ third tier abilities.

Green adds that Destiny’s end game is similar to the type of experience a game like Diablo offers, “in the sense that it’s about moving onto the more horizontal growth – trying new abilities and builds and weapons, with the same element of growing more powerful as a character so I can do the harder activities that exist in the world.”

Earlier, Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague also mentioned that Destiny will offer “very complicated end game activities that will challenge your problem solving and your teamwork.”

Looking forward to get to that end game? You can start your mission on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this September 9.

Driveclub is 1080p and 30 FPS to Deliver “Most Detailed Cars” and “Biggest Tracks”

The PlayStation 4-exclusive racing game, Driveclub, will run at a 1080p resolution and 30 frames-per-second when it launches this October 7.

Driveclub game director Paul Rustchynsky recently confirmed the information with VG247 in an interview, mentioning that developer Evolution Studios feels it is the best fit for the game.

He said “[Striving for 60FPS] was something that we stated as an early target to ourselves.

“As we’ve got more familiar with the hardware, and also, looking at what we wanted from the game, we decided that 1080p, 30 frames per second is absolutely the best thing, because what that allows us to do is to deliver the most detailed cars in-race that you will ever have seen.

“It’s allowed us to create some of the biggest tracks you will ever see in a racing game, with the most visually-dense environments, as well as a full global illumination system which allows us to make time of day, where shadows are cast, full-on reflections. It’s allowed us to push all those various areas.”

Based on the most recent gameplay trailer and screens, which you can catch right here if you missed it, Driveclub doesn’t fail to impress on a visual front so far.

Destiny PvP Is Unlocked Through Progression

In Destiny, players won’t quite be able to hop straight into competitive multiplayer action right away. Instead, developer Bungie has tied PvP to your character’s progression.

Essentially, players will have to unlock PvP, according to Eurogamer. However, once you’ve done so with one character, all characters tied to your account will also have access from that moment on.

Investment lead Tyson Green explains the decision: “We found early on that people here in the studio, when they jumped on the game – these were people who were already really familiar with the game mechanics – they would roll a new character, play through the first mission then go right into PvP, and they would just get really beaten up by the other players because they didn’t have a super ability yet and they’d only got an auto rifle from the first mission.”

“And they said, ‘this is really awful, this is a terrible experience!,’ he added. “And we said, ‘you’re right, we have to make sure that doesn’t really happen.'”

“So when your first character unlocks PvP, you’re a little bit further into the game. You’ve probably done one or two of the campaign missions, probably unlocked a special weapon and your super ability. And then once that’s happened we unlock it for all the characters on your account. Once you know how the game works, if you want to take a Hunter into PvP at level three, yeah, we’re okay with that. You know what the game is at that point, so that’s your decision to make.”

In the end, Bungie simply believes that most players will likely want to earn their Super Ability and their “Golden Gun” before heading off in to competitive matches, which make sense. Do you agree?

You’ll be able to test your skills in Destiny’s online experience in the beta this summer, coming first to PlayStation.

Rent a Battlefield 4 Server on Console Now, “Death Shield” Bug Fix Incoming [Updated]

Battlefield 4 users on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 will be able to rent their very own server starting today as developer DICE rolls out their Rent-A-Server program.

It will allow users to purchase their own server to rent, customize, and publish for others to play on. You’ll be able to alter options like game modes, map rotation, and more. Here are the current pricing options:

  • 1 day \\ $1.49
  • 7 days \\ $6.99
  • 30 days \\ $24.99
  • 90 days \\ $59.99

DICE has announced that the amount of available servers will increase over time, so don’t panic if you are unable to find any right away.

The studio also notes that a fix is rolling out for the infamous “Death Shield” bug, as pointed out by the Battlefield community earlier this month.

“We’d also like to inform you that with today’s server update, we are deploying a fix for the issue being referred to as “Death Shield,” where an invisible “shield” would appear around killed enemies, blocking weapons fire,” writes DICE. “Thank you for being patient as we worked to get this resolved.”

You can see the odd bug in action right here, if you missed it.

Thinking of renting a server? What sort of map and mode configurations are you hoping to set up?

Update 1

It appears that DICE has run into a few issues with the Xbox One Rent-A-Server program. They recently issued this statement:

We have identified rental time issues with the Rent-a-Server Program release on Xbox One and have temporarily removed the feature as we investigate. The servers which were already rented will still be available for play, but admins may not be able to access all the management features at this time. As soon as a fix is in place we will announce its availability. If you rented any servers on Xbox One and are experiencing issues please contact EA Customer Support at http://help.ea.com.

Update 2

The PlayStation 4’s Rent-A-Server program is now also experiencing a bit of a hiccup and is being pulled for the time being.

Due to a high demand for the Rent-a-Server Program on PlayStation 4, we’ve noticed an issue with 64-player servers and removed the RSP option on this platform until players can properly access what they’ve paid for. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the RSP program.

  • Warhawk: Taking place in a small American town, this three-lane map caters to many different play styles. The main street can be a convenient rush route, but beware of enemy snipers in the buildings on both ends.

Lastly, you’ll also get access to the original Extinction co-op mode.

Bungie Doesn’t Want Ranking Up in Destiny to be ‘Too Challenging’, Focus is on Loot

More details surface on Bungie’s shared-world shooter, Destiny, following recent gameplay gameplay reveals and a significant info blowout. Today, we learn a little bit more about Destiny’s progression system.

According to PlayStation Access, during their time spent at the studio, Bungie was “keen to stress that they don’t want leveling to be too challenging and they don’t estimate it will take some people very long to reach the level cap.” PSA insists that, instead, ‘loot’ will be the real ‘x factor’ that keeps players coming back from more, not ranking up.

From the sounds of it, Destiny’s economy will play a large role in the game’s world. We recently learned that player-to-player trading won’t be supported at launch, though trading items amongst your own characters will.

Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague wrote a small blurb on Reddit in response to worried fans, saying that reaching max rank will still “take more than a few hours”, and that the current progression system is “in no way final”. He did, however, agree that Bungie does not want to make ranking up in Destiny “feel like a grind of a chore”.

“Hmmmm, what to say about this?

The progression system that has been shared to date is in no way final.

I can assure you that your evolution in Destiny will take more than a few hours.

That said, we’re not creating something that should feel like a grind or a chore.

Resume speculation!”

What do you think is the right balance for a ranking system in an action-MMO hybrid like Destiny?

Call of Duty: “Blacksmith” Reveal Imminent

Publisher Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games will announce the next Call of Duty game, code named “Blacksmith”, some time in May.

In addition to our info, the likelihood of an unveiling this May is quite high, considering some of Activision’s previous marketing tactics.

The first hints for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts surfaced at this exact time last year when the official Call of Duty website was updated with an interactive mosaic, eventually filling to form the shape of the Ghosts’ iconic skull logo. The game’s first live-action teaser trailer was launched May 1, 2013. Similarly, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was unveiled during the NBA Playoffs on May 1, 2012.

Call of Duty: “Blacksmith” is currently in development at Sledgehammer Games, the third studio to join Activision’s roster of Call of Duty-focused studios, including Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

The first image of Call of Duty: “Blacksmith” was teased last week, showing off a highly detailed rendering of a soldier’s face. It’s official title has yet to be determined.

Amazing Battlefield 4 Fan-Made Film Is a Cinematic Experience You Don’t Want to Miss

Simply put, we are blown away by this fan-made Battlefield 4 film called “Through My Eyes” that was recently brought to our attention.

Throw on some headphones, turn up the resolution, full-screen it up, and give this bad boy a good viewing. The camera work is impeccable, the music is effective, the editing is astounding, and the visual are, of course, top notch. Show this to any non-gamer and they’ll immediately ask you when is it hitting theaters.

In addition, check out these high-resolution test shots captured during the filming of the project.

Huge props to “The Two Scotsmen” for this putting this amazing cinematic experience together. Without a doubt, we can’t wait to see more in the future.

Thanks, Ryan, for the tip!

Report – New Game Mode “Reinforce” Coming to COD: Ghosts, Resembles Insurgency’s “Firefight”

From the same user who discovered that “Drop Zone” would be introduced to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer last month, we learn that a new game mode called “Reinforce” may make an appearance some time soon.

The mode that gotopiz discovered by peaking through the files of the game’s most recent patch is an objective-based variant of the Domination game type. The description reads, “Capture points to revive fallen teammates. Taking all positions will win the round.”

It bears a striking resemblance to Insurgency‘s “Firefight” game mode, which we find rather odd. But, perhaps, imitation is the highest form of flattery?

We’ll have to wait a little longer before we here any official world of the new mode. Meanwhile, be sure to keep your sights on MP1st for updates and feel free to check out the recently captured “Reinforce” screens below:

Destiny’s End Game Activities Are “Very Complicated”, More on Groups and Clans

Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague offers up more details about the studio’s ambitious shared-world FPS project, Destiny.

We got a near overdose of Destiny goodness yesterday with brand new footage, fresh in-game screens, and tons of info. The coverage continues today with an interview between Mr. Dague and PlayStation Access.

According to Dague, Destiny will offer more than enough substance for thrill seekers after having completed the game’s main story arch. He says Destiny will present “very complicated end game activities that will challenge your problem solving and your teamwork.”

Bungie touched on Destiny’s end game activities a while back, mentioning that “at some variable, distant endpoint we are going to say, ‘yeah, if you show up at this door, and you don’t have five friends, you’re not going to be able to succeed.’”

At some point during your journey through Bungie’s brave new world, likely long before you reach the ‘end game’, chances are you’ll want to establish a tight-knit group of comrades to help you take on missions and adventures. Luckily, Bungie is going to make that really easy for you with Destiny’s companion app.

“Yes,” there will be clan support in Destiny, said Dague. “Groups is something that we already support on Bungie.net.”

“If you don’t have a group that you play games with, or you have a bunch of friends that you’re used to playing games with and you want to make it official, we’ll let you carve out your own real estate on our website, build your own club house, give it a name, manage the guest list,” Dague continued.

“It’s something that we are supporting actively right now and as Destiny actually launches, or as it gets closer to actually coming online, we’ll show you how the Bungie mobile applications and Bungie.net sort of evolved into becoming what we’ll call the Destiny companion, which will have all different kinds of interesting services and support features that will help you extend the adventure and the experience of playing the game beyond the controller.

“We want to create a world that you want to explore, a place where you can go and visit your friends and have fantastic adventures together, not just a disc that spins in your tray, right? So, supporting those features, bringing people together so they have lasting friendships – even if it’s just sort of a tactical teamwork relationship – is something that we’re really looking forward to in this game that’s built from the ground up to be social and co-operative.”

Lastly, Dague shined some light on exactly what sort of content will be offered to players in the first instalment of Bungie’s decade-long experience, some of which won’t be available at launch.

“Your first exposure to Destiny will have you exploring places like the moon,” he said. “You will be fighting to reclaim corners of Earth. There will be Mars and there will be Venus. They won’t all be open to you at launch. Like we’ve said, it’s a world that evolves and unfolds before you over time. So this game is about discovery and it’s about exploration. So we’re sending you back out to the stars to reclaim everything we’ve lost, but you’ll have to take some baby steps and maybe even get knocked back a couple of times before you’re ready to voyage further.”

At the end of the interview, Dague re-emphasized that details on competitive multiplayer, “raids,” and Destiny’s beta will come at a later date.

You’ll be able to embark on your voyage September 9 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
