Driveclub Release Date Announced In New Trailer

Evolution Studio released a brand new trailer and, as promised, they have announced that Driveclub will be releasing October 7th.

The delayed had to do with not being able to deliver the content they wanted at launch, as explained on the PSBlog.

“We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game. The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.”

In addition, the game is still receive a free PS+ version (limited). You can watch the trailer above and also get  a good look at how beautiful this game looks in the screenshots below.

Respawn Co-Founder Vince Zampella Opens Mobile Studio Nuclear Division

Though he’s not quite abandoning his position as CEO of Respawn Entertainment, Zampella is doing double duty as investor, adviser, and board member of the newly formed mobile studio, Nuclear Division.

The ex-Call of Duty creator and mind behind the Xbox and PC shooter Titanfall joins slot machine developer WMS’s former product head Larry Pacey to head up the new outfit, also located in San Francisco. They began recruiting last January and now have just under a dozen employees. Zampella told VentureBeat, however, that the bulk of his activities will still take place at Respawn.

Zampella explained that it’s “silly to ignore” mobile devices in the current gaming landscape. “It’s a device that I play on because I always have it with me… it’s always connected. You’re engaged with it. There’s something you can do with that. I’m not saying one is better than the other, in terms of console versus mobile. It’s a different gaming experience. Both interest me.”

VentureBeat reports that their first mobile title may pop up “a year or so” down the road.

Titanfall on iPad? Would you play it?

Thanks, Eurogamer.

Bungie on PC Version of Destiny – “Not a Thought We Can Spend Time Thinking About Right Now”

But the studio does “look forward to [their] future conversations around PC,” COO Pete Parsons said, cryptically, when asked about the possibility of the console shooter coming to PC.

“We love the PC. We hear it too. We ask the question of ourselves,” he told Eurogamer during a studio tour.

Destiny is headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 this September 9, but not to PC. That leaves a significant portion of anxious fans scratching their heads, considering the game was built on PC in the first place.

“The truth is it’s not that simple,” said Design lead Lars Bakken chimed in earlier.  “I wish it was that simple. It’s pretty complicated. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen in the future, it just means it won’t happen right now.

“The console SKUs are really important for us and that’s what we’re focusing on,” Bakken added. “We’re doing it all internally ourselves. That’s a huge endeavour. That’s not something we’ve ever done before.

“So when I’m playtesting and I’m trying to play PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3, that’s a lot of work. Adding another thing on there is just crazy. It’s crazy to think of right now.”

Parsons shared similar sentiments, attributing the difficulties to the “one central world” that is Destiny.

“It is not nearly as simple as you think,” he said. “It is one central world no matter what the platform, and so that requires lots of intensive thought.

“Frankly, it’s not a thought we can spend time thinking about right now. Just building up the game and putting it across generations of platforms, and working on platforms we’ve never worked on before with the PlayStation 3, these are very big challenges. I’m thankful we have the engineering team we do.”

There may be truth in Parson’s words, looking at some of the troubles other shooters that launched on all five (or more) platforms seem to be experiencig. So while Destiny on PC may not look feasible any time soon, PC gamers may want to keep their eyes and ears open for news in the future.

Watch Dogs Multiplayer Details – How to Party Up in Free Roam, Whole Map Accessible, and More

More details surface surrounding Watch Dog‘s unique online experience that was shown off in depth last week.

Clarifying some of the confusion spread a couple of days ago, Watch Dog’s creative Director, Jonathan Morin confirmed that every inch of Chicago will be accessible in the online multiplayer.

Many were also curious as to how players would be able to connect with their own friends. Despite the game not having any sort of lobby/party system, it will feature public and private options that’ll allow you to invite and play with up to 8 players in one free roam session.

Morin then went on to answer other questions regarding cops, abilities during online, mini-games, and other details.

Watch Dogs is set to launch May 27th on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Infinity Ward To Patch Bizon Sub-Machine Gun in Future Patch

In response to overwhelming feedback, Infinity Ward will be altering the statistics of the Bizon sub-machine gun in a future Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer update.

The studio made the short announcement on Twitter today:

Twitter user Eric said it best in a very well thought out letter written to the Ghosts dev team:

“A huge component of gun selection in Competitive Call of Duty revolves around Balance. Pre-update, the Mtar has been the most popular gun because it is considered “Good” in the three main ranges (Close Range, Mid Range, and Long Range). The Vector was also a popular option because due to its’ decent rate of fire and its’ strong damage. This made the vector good at close range, great at mid-range, and poor at long range (Too much recoil to be utilized long range). This meta, choosing between a gun that gives you an advantage at range while sacrificing damage up close and vice versa, was sufficient for competitive cod at this point. That meta is now essentially gone.”

“The patch has basically eliminated these two guns as options and is forcing players to only use Bizons.”

You can read the full list of feedback notes here, including a number of examples, which multiplayer designers at Infinity Ward have taken note of:

Also in response, eSports leagues like MLG will be banning the weapon from future competitions until it has been patched accordingly:

Stay tuned for more details!

Watch Over Three Minutes of H-Hour: World’s Elite Proof of Concept Gameplay

SOF Studios is showing off more gameplay action from their in-development tactical, military-inspired shooter, H-Hour: World’s Elite. In the video above, gameplay was captured from various play sessions across the UK, US, and Canada.

As mentioned in the title, what’s being shown here is still a work-in-progress, meaning the final version of the game will likely look and feel different. As we learned earlier, H-Hour is eventually headed to the Unreal Engine 4, which we suspect will yield some very pretty visuals and stronger character animations when it launches on the PC and PS4.

Currently, the studio is in the midst of acquiring backers to push production forward. Creative director David Sears says that they’re out to “prove that there is interest in the game, that the budget is valid, and that not only are [they] bringing back a classic gameplay style but innovating as well.”

Destiny – Player Trading Coming After Launch, Only Character Trading On Release

In Destiny‘s brave new world, Guardians won’t quite be able to trade with each other on launch, though trading amongst your own characters will be a possibility, as we learned earlier.

According to developer Bungie, trading between players will eventually happen, but at a later date, once the studio has really figured out Destiny’s economy and security measures within the consoles.

“We’re really excited about doing a player economy,” investment lead Tyson Green told Destructoid. “This is going to be a game that the community really drives. But for launch we’re going to be restricting it to trading items between your own characters. We have a lot to learn about the way the economy works, and also the security situation both for our own systems and platforms. We’re excited about opening up player to player trade as soon as we can, but we’re actually going to keep it to character-to-character trade at launch.”

Players will be able to take their gear to Destiny’s social hub, The Tower, in between missions where they can show off or trade their hard-earned weapons and equipment. Nine inventory slots will be made available to each Guardian, including three weapons slots; one for Primaries, Secondaries, and Heavy Weapons, in addition to Focus, grenades, and armor.

You can check out some of the neat armor and weapon combinations in the most recent gameplay trailer showing off 7 minutes of “The Devils’ Lairl” co-operative Strike mission.

Destiny drops on September 9 with a beta this Summer.

Destiny Competitive Multiplayer Won’t Be Limited to 3v3 Combat, Will Feature 6-Player “Raids”

Update

Bungie Head of Community Eric “Urk” Osborne has responded to Joystiq’s remarks, explaining that Destiny’s competitive multiplayer will not be capped at 3 vs. 3 combat. He also talked about Raids, a 6-player activity that will always be in parties compromised of friends.

There are several modes featuring more players that we’ve already talked about. Raids are a six player activity that will always be in parties comprised of your friends. Competitive multiplayer is not capped at 3v3.”

Original Story

Throughout today’s media blowout on Bungie’s upcoming shared-world shooter, Destiny, we learned a lot about co-operative Strike missions and how combative engagements play out when fighting alongside your Fireteam. But what about competitive multiplayer?

By the sounds of it, we’re going to have to wait until this year’s E3 to learn more about it, but Joystiq was able to pick up a small bit of interesting information.

According to what Bungie COO Pete Parsons told them, every mode in Destiny is played in Fireteams of three Guardians, including adversarial multiplayer. “Every mode is played with groups of threes, incidentally – even adversarial multiplayer – as Bungie feels it offers the best balance for the three available classes,” writes Richard Mitchell.

Looking deeper into it, it’s not clear if that means PvP combat will be limited to six players total (3 vs. 3), or if PvP combat will be made up of multiple teams of three. Either way, some might see it as an unexpected turn from developers who pioneered the competitive multiplayer experience on consoles with iconic games like Halo. To this day, most of Halo’s core multiplayer modes are made up of 4 vs. 4 team battles or 8 vs. 8 big team battles. Meanwhile, 6 vs. 6 is standard in games like Call of Duty, while Battlefield even boasts 32 vs. 32 player combat. But, as only Bungie knows, whatever they have planned might very well be what’s best for a game like Destiny.

We’ll have to sit tight until E3 to learn more. Meanwhile, check out today’s gameplay reveal of “The Devils’ Lair” Strike mission.

What are your thoughts? Would smaller team battles make more sense for a class-based game like Destiny?

Bungie Explains What Destiny’s Co-Op Strikes Are All About, Play Competitive PvP at E3

As was demonstrated earlier this morning in a fresh new Destiny gameplay trailer, fans will be able to strike together in Fireteams of three to embark on deadly missions throughout Destiny’s world.

In a new video posted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, Bungie explains that co-op Strikes task three Guardians, you and two of your most trusted pals, to face wave after wave of enemies, culminating in an epic boss battle. The rewards are plenty, should you and your Fireteam succeed.

For fans of the more competitive side of multiplayer, Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague also announced that Destiny’s PvP will be playable at this year’s E3. As for the Beta this Summer, Head of Community Eric “Urk” Osborne says Bungie will be offering a “huge slice of content” for all players to get their hands on, though the studio was still unable to provide an exact launch date.

We do know that Destiny hits next-gen and current-gen platforms on September 9. Be sure to check out the latest gameplay details on Destiny right here.

Destiny Interview Offers New Gameplay and Info on PvP, Destiny App, Character Management, and More

Bungie community manager Eric “Urk” Osborne spills buckets of Destiny gameplay details in a brand new interview with PlayStation Access.

He goes into details about competitive multiplayer, player customization, and character management, among many other things.

According to Osborne, players will be able to customize how their character is presented to others through Destiny’s companion app. He imagines that, once you start digging into the app’s features, “people are going to be pretty surprised by what [Bungie is] able to pull off on mobile and desktop.”

While competitive multiplayer will be a major element in Destiny, it sounds like the studio is focusing efforts on making the experience “super fun” and something that shooter fans will want to play “long term”, rather than attempting to turn it into an eSport. PvP activities will also be tweaked to only allow players to bring a limited number of inventory items into combat, namely ammo, which will have to be found on the map.

Osborne touched on player investment between different character slots, mentioning that “there will be elements that are shared and some that are distinct”. Bungie wants players to feel free to swap characters if they prefer one type of Guardian for PvE adventures and one for PvP combat. He hints that there much more to come on this and other details at this year’s E3.

The interview itself offers a few moments of brand new gameplay so definitely check it out in the featured section above.

Earlier today, we learned that players jumping between console generations while playing Destiny will be able to carry their saves with them. Get more details here.

See Destiny’s Upgraded Red Sparrow GameStop Pre-Order Bonus In Action

Future Destiny players seeking the hottest ride will have to pre-order through video game retailer GameStop.

The upgraded Red Sparrow, spotted earlier on this poster, boasts better acceleration and a higher top speed, according to the GameStop commercial. It will be offered as an exclusive day-one, in-game bonus item to those who pre-order through the retailer, which we assume extends to Canadian EB Games customers as well.

You can see it in action in the new Destiny gameplay clip above.

Of course, pre-orderers will also have access to Destiny’s beta on the platform of their choosing later this Summer. Destiny launches September 9.

Destiny Saves Can Be Transferred Between Console Generations

Those who’ll be jumping aboard the new console generation after the launch of Bungie’s shared-world shooter, Destiny, can take comfort in knowing they’ll be able to take all their hard work with them.

During a recent press event, investment lead Tyson Green explained that Destiny players will be able to share their saves from previous-gen hardware to next-gen hardware. That means Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners can upgrade to Xbox One or PlayStation 4 without worries.

“We’re interested in making sure that last gen character can move to next gen,” he said. “A lot of people are going to buy Destiny on PS3 or Xbox 360 and then get a PS4 for Christmas. Don’t tell me I wasted those last 100 hours there. So we’re really interested in supporting that. Our longer-term platform plans, I couldn’t speak to right now. But we don’t want to lock people in.”

Though it likely won’t be the case, it’s not clear if saves can be shared across console families.

“We don’t have any plans to announce there right now. Traditionally that’s been restricted by the platform [holders] themselves. We’ll just have to wait and see where they go with that.”

Do you plan to upgrade your console after Destiny’s launch this September 9?

Check out the brand new gameplay trailer that recently hit.

Thanks, Polygon.
