Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Final Preview – Epic Medieval RPG in the Making

[summaraize]

With the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 just around the corner, anticipation is building for the next chapter in Warhorse Studios’ ambitious medieval RPG series. Following the first game’s success, this sequel promises to expand on the immersive, historically-driven world that captivated players in 2018. Whether you’re a returning fan or new to the series, our final hands-on preview takes a closer look at what to expect from the game in terms of its narrative, gameplay, and improvements—just days before you can finally dive into the next chapter of this epic journey.

Welcome to Thy Kingdom

Like in my upcoming review, I won’t spoil much of the story for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, outside of saying that it’s a direct continuation of where the original game ended. Despite that, even if you didn’t play the first game (which I highly recommend), the sequel does a fine job of setting things up and recapping the events of the first game. It’s not required to be played, and I’d argue that the opening hours of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 establishes itself as a more welcoming experience, as while the original game threw you right into the thick of it, the sequel takes it sweet time to build up its story, but it does so with a cinematic fashion.

It’s quite a slow start, akin to, say, Red Dead Redemption 2 opening, where a good chunk of it is spent learning about the characters as they’re put in a tense dilemma with them making some pretty tough decisions. The opening hours of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are, in fact, rather “linear.” Not that this is a bad thing, quite the opposite actually as whereas in the first game you sort of have to learn things as you go, Warhorse Studios uses the into of the game to not only tell a story in an engaging way but also to teach players the mechanics in a more structured manner. The pacing is deliberate, allowing you to absorb the nuances of combat, crafting, and exploration without feeling overwhelmed and rushed. Each interaction feels purposeful, setting up the larger world and its complex web of politics and intrigue. It’s a thoughtful approach, ensuring that players are well-equipped before they’re set loose into the more open-ended parts of the game, where the choices are more significant and the stakes even higher.

You’ll hear more about it in my full review, but based on the opening, the sequel feels like the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but in a much more refined way. The gameplay has been touched up immensely, and most of the jank (don’t worry—it still has physics-based combat) now feels more in the player’s control. This is a better scene in the game’s combat, which has gone from five directional swing inputs to four. It’s more “accessible” but by no means easier, at least to master, as the combat still takes things such as stamina, distance, and numerous mechanics with several physics tied to them. Of course, like in the original, a lot of things can be countered by leveling up certain skills, such as swordsmanship, but even then, going in equipped into combat, you can find this game to be very challenging and fun.

To newcomers, I may say the gameplay is rough around the edges at first, but if you stick with it for long enough, you’ll appreciate what Warhorse Studios has built. As I said, the opening hours are slow but surprisingly cinematic, and much of the mechanics you’ll learn from those hours only serve to prepare you for what the game truly has to offer. What exactly is that? Well, it’s what I’d best describe as an open-world medieval playground driven by several sandbox mechanics that make for perhaps one of the most interactive RPGs I’ve ever played.

It’s not quite a “true sandbox,” mind you. You have a story quest that follows, for the most part, a set path. But what do you do in between the story feels pretty sandbox. After you’ve gotten through the intro, the game opens up drastically. It gives you a goal that you eventually need to accomplish, but how you get there is really up to you in many ways. You could power through it and get through the early parts that I’m allowed to talk to in this preview in a few short hours. But that’d be doing the game a disservice, and you’d miss out on how much you can experiment with in the open world.

Take the crime system, which has vastly improved from the first game. Towns are littered with folks, and many have valuables you can trade for. But starting early, you basically have nothing to your name to spend. So you can decide to get to work and earn a good reputation amongst the town folk, which comes with stat perks to help you haggle for better prices. Or, you could take a less noble approach, sneak around behind people’s backs, and rob them of their well-earned money and goods. Those goods can be sold off to traders, but if you aren’t careful, traders will pick up on the fact that you’ve stolen the items.

There’s a lot of mechanics that are intertwined when it comes to crime. Those stolen goods might be tracked back to you because you started to earn a reputation for being a thief. People in towns will become wearier of your presence, making stealth harder and haggling and doing business with traders much harder to do.

Eventually, you’ll get caught by the town’s guards due to all the reports, and if you aren’t versed well enough in your speech, they’ll try and make you pay it all back with money. If you don’t have money, you’ll get put in the pillory, where the townsfolk can spend days and nights heckling you while throwing all kinds of perishables. Commit more crimes; you might get branded, which makes all the townfolks aware of who you are as they yell snarky remarks as you pass them on the street. More heinous crimes could even result in an execution.

However, it’s more than just the crime system that the NPC will react to. Walk into a town that isn’t fond of Cumans wearing Cuman armor, and they might not talk to you. Don’t maintain your hygiene; they’ll call out your location due to the unbearable stench. Keep being good, though, and you’ll find some benefits, such as traders offering you more work and additional dialogue options becoming available that may even lead to some bountiful rewards.

Many mechanics are in place that are superbly reactive to the things you do, giving the world this sense of living, more so than most of your traditional open-world games do.

Though the game revolves around the player, I love how Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 feels like a world that doesn’t care about you. Everyone has their own lives to live, and I could see this as I followed NPCs around to see where and what they were doing. A shopkeeper, for example,e wakes up, puts on their gear, has breakfast, makes chatter with other townfolks, then goes about their day trading, interacting with other NPCs, and then eventually closing shop and repeating the process. Every NPC in the game feels like they have a purpose in this world, and it’s crazy to watch it unfold.

Because of that, the game offers some pretty unique side quests that are scattered throughout the world. And if what we played through indicated what the complete game offers, then you can expect not only quantity but also quality behind every, if not most, of the quests. The cool part is how much of those sandbox-like mechanics transfer into some side quests. Decision-making is a massive part of the game, and several mechanics determine the way outcomes end.  I mentioned before that you can increase your stats to have better dialogue options, or more so, more successful ones, such as being able to lie and other things.

Failing a sidequest doesn’t result in a game over, and unless you save scum, some of the decisions you make in the game will be ones you have to live with.

A Promising Start

There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, some of which you can read in my review next week. But, what I will say, based on my playtime from the preview section, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be quite the worthy successor. With a bigger focus on creating a richly immersive world filled with history and choices that actually matter, it’s clear Warhorse Studios aimed big with this one. Just how that will translate into the final game? Well, you’ll have to see next week when our full review is up, but so far, Warhorse Studios has already crafted what feels like is going to be an unforgettable journey.

STALKER 2 Update for January 27 Is the First Patch of 2025 via Version 1.1.4

[summaraize]

The first patch of STALKER 2 for 2025 has been pushed out by GSC Game World this January 27. PC and Xbox Series X|S gamers can now download patch version 1.1.4, and this is a minor update that houses a short list of fixes, which starkly contrasts the game’s past updates that housed over a thousand fixes.

GSC Game World’s patch for today mostly consists of technical fixes, so don’t expect any gameplay improvements.

STALKER 2’s First Update for 2025 Focuses on Tech Fixes

stalker 2 new update

  • Fixed crashes and freeze on shaders compilation
  • Fixed memory leak occurred at Rostok location
  • Fixed performance degradation when shooting/aiming on saves with long playtime
  • Implemented fixes, that should solve the problem causing saves to be lost on Xbox
  • Fixed a random crash related to UI animations.

GSC Game World adds that the Shader Compilation fix was one of the “hardest fights” for the dev team in recent days. So there is a chance a bug or two about it might linger still.

More patches are on the way according to the studio, and once we know more about it, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

If you’ve yet to play the game, go read our review where we state, “Look, if you’re a fan of the Stalker franchise, then Stalker 2 is going to be everything you’d hoped and probably expected from it. It’s a spectacular game with enjoyable combat that is filled with challenge and thrills, with a story and world that will have you hooked the moment you step in.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Download Version 1.800 Prematurely Released for Patch 8 on PS5

In case you didn’t know, Larian Studios is hard at work on Patch 8 that enables crossplay, adds new subclasses and more for all platforms. Given the size of the patch, Larian is looking to playtest this first before unleashing it to all players. However, those on PS5, it seems the patch was prematurely released, as players can now download version 1.800, though it’s not the official release of Patch 8.

This was confirmed by Larian Studios, who also offered a warning regarding save states.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Accidentally Released as Update 1.800

Baldur's Gate 3 Update 1.007.301

Larian said, “No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun. Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8. While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7.”

We haven’t tested the patch ourselves and whether this delivers the complete Patch 8 experience. Chances are, players will get a rollback patch very soon, with this version scrapped. Expect the official Patch 8 release to be under a different version number (though we can be wrong about that). Expect a ton of stuff about Patch 8 to be leaked very soon, thanks to this accidental update rollout.

Aside from crossplay, Patch 8 will also introduce 12 new subclasses:

  • Bard – College of Glamour
  • Barbarian – Path of Giants
  • Cleric – Death Domain
  • Druid – Circle of Stars
  • Paladin – Oath of the Crown
  • Fighter – Arcane Archer
  • Monk – Drunken Master
  • Ranger – Swarmkeeper
  • Rogue – Swashbuckler
  • Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
  • Warlock – Hexblade
  • Wizard – Bladesinging

Larian Studios has also promised Photo Mode to be part of the patch rollout, another community-requested feature finally being added to the hit RPG.

We’ll provide an update once we know more about Larian’s plans regarding the download. While we expect a rollback version to be released, Larian can’t force people to apply the patch, especially if they don’t care about playing online.

If you’re playing with Patch 8 installed, be prepared for crashes and various issues, as it hasn’t been tested yet.

Phantom Blade Zero Main Story Length Around 20-30 Hours, Offers Second Phase Boss Respawns

[summaraize]

The Chinese-developed action RPG Phantom Blade Zero has unveiled new details about its gameplay and story length. This highly anticipated hack-and-slash title is set to launch on PS5 and PC, though its release date has yet to be announced. Recent reports from various Chinese sources have revealed the game’s duration and other gameplay details that will surely excite many fans.

According to information from various Chinese articles and interviews, the main storyline of Phantom Blade Zero will last between 20 to 30 hours, with an additional 20 hours of side content. This long playtime shows that the game is more like an action RPG instead of a classic hack-and-slash, which usually has shorter and more combat-focused gameplay.

Phantom Blade Zero Will Feature Four Difficulty Levels

Phantom Blade Zero 30 hours long

The development team of over 100 members has also confirmed that the game will feature four difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extremely hard. Like games in the Soulsborne genre, the boss battles will have two phases. If players die during the second phase, they will respawn directly in that phase, making the game a bit easier.

There will also be a mode called “Li Wulin,” which allows players to re-fight previously defeated bosses as many times as they want. This mode will also grant access to hidden bosses, offering an additional challenge for players.

Phantom Blade Zero has garnered significant attention following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, another successful Chinese game. This new title is described as an action RPG with kungfupunk setting set in a dark fantasy world. The protagonist, Soul, is an elite assassin from a group called The Order, wrongly accused of a crime. Saved by a mystical healer, Soul has 66 days to clear his name and uncover the truth.

The game takes place in a semi-open world with thoughtfully designed maps focusing on quality over quantity. Combat features acrobatic, sword-based hack-and-slash mechanics inspired by 90s kungfu films, with action scenes supervised by Kenji Tanigaki, a veteran director of kungfu movie scenes.

Considering all this, Phantom Blade Zero seems to be shaping up as one of the most anticipated titles in the coming years.

Warhammer 40K; Darktide Gets First Update of 2025 as Patch 1.6.5

[summaraize]

Developer Fatshark has released the first update for Warhammer 40K: Darktide and it’s out now on consoles and PC as Patch 1.6.5! Those on consoles, you should see this as Darktide download version 1.063.396, and the patch notes mention console-specific fixes.

Given this is more of a hotfix than anything else, don’t expect any new content in this patch outside of improvements and fixes.

Error: Invalid URL or the post is not found on this site.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide’s First Patch of 2025 Applies Variious Technical Fixes

  • Re: Stalls and disconnects on console.
    • We are continuing to investigate the increased rate of stalls causing disconnects on console. We’ve seen this happens more frequently in high intensity missions such as higher levels of Havoc and Auric Maelstrom missions. We have some initial ideas on what might help with these disconnects and we have included those fixes in this patch.
    • We have additional fixes in the works for the next update as well. As the hotfix rolls out, we’ll continue to monitor player comments to see if there have been improvements, as well as checking data on our end.
  • [Console] Fixed a rare crash which could happen when suspending the game immediately after launching it.
  • Fixed an uncommon crash which could happen when a player joined a Strike Team through the Party Finder due to the game failing to retrieve their profile data.
  • Small improvements to memory usage for UI code.
  • Improved presentation of the Weapons and Curios icons. The icons will now appear smaller, but better aligned and with more of the item visible.
  • Fixed UI crash that can happen while showcasing the mastery progression in the end of round.
  • Fixed some typos and incorrect translations.
  • Fixed an issue where the description text of the Special action was overlapping with the UI in the Inspect screen for the Blaze Force Greatsword weapon family.
  • Fixed an issue where the Quickplay “Select Threat Level” UI element was misplaced in the Mission Board menu.
  • Fixed an issue where an incorrect image could be displayed when receiving a Party Finder invitation while already participating in a mission.
  • Fixed a missing texture issue that sometimes resulted in a crash.
  • Fixed an issue with missing physics and stretching materials on the Veteran “Desert Hood (Dune camo)” headgear cosmetic.
  • Fixed an issue where the eyebrow would be removed while wearing the Zealot “Votarist’s Pot Helm with Rebreather” headgear cosmetic.
  • Fixed the scaling of the decal on the side of the Psyker “Krieg Witch Mask (Krieg 143rd, Shadow Ops)” headgear cosmetic.
  • Fixed an issue where the eyebrow would be removed while wearing the Ogryn “Mark XII Brute Model Cranial Implant (Size XXXXL)” headgear cosmetic.

Expect new content for the game to be released sometime this year, though nothing has been officially revealed by Fatshark just yet.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Update 1.023 Rolled Out for Fixes

[summaraize]

With Episode 8 of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League now out, the last content drop for the game is now out. However, that doesn’t mean Rocksteady Studios is abandoning the game entirely. One perfect example is today, as the studio released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League update 1.023 on all platforms and this is to usher in fixes.

To roll out the new patch, the game’s servers have been pulled temporarily. While the server downtime started at 4 am PT/7 am ET/8 pm HKT, there is no specific duration mentioned. If this is the same as past maintenance outages, expect at least 2-3 hours of server downtime.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Still Getting Support After Last Seasonal Content Drop

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Down

Update: Rocksteady has released the official patch notes.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented progress for some players on completing a Poison Ivy mission
  • [PC EGS] Fixed an issue that prevented some users on Epic Games Store from logging in when offline
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some players from unlocking the ‘Trial By Blood’ Achievement/Trophy  – SSKTJL-9690
  • Various fixes to the gear crafting & upgrading systems
  • Various online connection fixes

While Rocksteady hasn’t released the official patch notes, we do know some of the issues the dev team are tackling. Based on the Episode 8 patch, this issue has yet to be resolved:

  • When attempting Riddler challenges from an Episode other than the one currently selected, progress can sometimes be tracked incorrectly. To correct this, exit out of your current session back to the main menu.

As far as we’re aware, that seems to be the main issue the team is looking to patch. If there’s anything else, we’ll update the article to reflect the changes made.

It’s been a very quiet ride for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from its release to its content support end. Aside from the news about the game underperforming commercially, and the studio layoffs connected to  thje game, Suicide Squad failed to move the needle and failed to redeem itself in anyway whatsoever as well.

We hope Rocksteady’s next game, which is rumored to be based once again on the Batman Arkham franchise, fares a lot better.

Players should see World War Z download version 1.65 available on consoles and PC, with PS5/XSX owners seeing the patch download as 1.028.

There’s not a lot to the update, so expect a small download for this hotfix.

world war z update 1.65

The only thing Saber Interactive changed in this patch is the following:

  • Fixed various issues with weapon perk progression. Please note that manual weapon perk loadout re-setup may be required after the update.

hat’s about it. In terms of what’s been added recently, here are the quality-of-life features that were implemented earlier this month:

Head on over here for the rest of the bug fixes and other improvements from that patch.

Expect more updates for World War Z to be rolled out in the coming months since it doesn’t seem Saber plans to stop support anytime soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Roadmap Reveals Free Updates and Upcoming Paid Expansions

[summaraize]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s roadmap for 2025 has officially been released! While fans will have plenty to look forward to when the game releases next week, Warhorse Studios has given us a glimpse of what’s to come post-launch.

The roadmap includes free updates and paid expansions that will expand the world of Bohemia.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Roadmap for 2025 Is Stacked With Features and New Content

Fans will soon be jumping into the world of Bohemia as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 arrives on all major platforms next week. While it promises hundreds of hundreds of hours of gameplay, Warhorse Studios wants you to know that there will be plenty of more of it coming throughout this year. As such, they’ve outlined their plans via a 2025 roadmap for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, detailing what you can expect this year, with the first drop arriving this Spring.

Spring 2025

Free Content

  • Barber Feature
  • Hardcore Mode
  • Horse Racing

Summer 2025

  • Brushes With Death (Paid Expansion) – Help a mysterious artist with an enigmatic past

Fall 2025

  • Legacy of the Forge (Paid Expansion) – Restore Kuttenberg’s forge and become a master blacksmith.

Winter 2025

  • Mysteria Ecclesia (Paid Expansion) – Explore Sedletz Monastery to stop the spread of a deadly illness.

Not bad for a year of content, and if the expansions are anything like the one in the first game, they’ll be very much worth the experience. We’re sure this won’t be the only thing coming to the game either, as we expect a ton of updates that will address any bugs and potential quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback when the game is out. So lots to look forward to this year from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 officially arrives on February 4 on Xbox Series X|S, the PS5, and PC platforms.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC Now Highest Concurrent Single-Player FF Game on Steam, Even as Thousands Pirate It

[summaraize]

While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth just launched on PC, it seems to have already established a new record and is already faring better than its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade.

Over on Steam, the game has already established itself as the single-player Final Fantasy game with the highest concurrent players, and this is with thousands of people pirating the game.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Marks New Record for Square Enix

Over on SteamDB,  it shows Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC has reached a concurrent player high of over 40,000 players today, which is the highest for any single-player game on Steam. For reference, the two Final Fantasy games with the highest concurrent player counts on Steam are Final Fantasy XIV Online (over 95,000), and Final Fantasy XV (over 29,000).

In terms of single-player Final Fantasy games, the first part of the trilogy only managed an all-time concurrent player peak on Steam of just 13,000, while Final Fantasy 16, which was released last year, reached an all-time high of 27,000 on the digital platform.

While 40,000 might not be as big of a number compared to most games, bear in mind that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC is also available on other PC storefronts, and those playing the game offline. Say, someone downloaded the game on Steam Deck, and then played it without a net connection after completing the download, that won’t show up on concurrent player numbers. Given Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a purely single-player game with no online component, I suspect a lot of RPG fans are playing it offline.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Getting Heavily Pirated by File Sharing Sites

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Update 1.080

Another thing that doesn’t help the game’s concurrent player count — and Square Enix’s revenue — is how the game has been heavily pirated since launch. While we won’t name any platform or sites, there are tens of thousands of people sharing the game illegally. We don’t know the exact number or ratio between people who purchased it legally and software pirates, but based o the numbers we’ve seen, it’s surely harming Square Enix’s bottomline.

Released last year on the PS5, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an excellent follow-up and outdoes the first part of the remake in every way. Our review of it was very glowing, stating, “The expanded story is riveting from start to finish, serving as essentially the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy. Even the smallest of sidequest can add something to the lore of the world or the overall narrative that you wouldn’t expect as well, which makes you want to complete everything the game has to offer.”

We here at MP1st do not condone piracy, and we hope this doesn’t deter Square Enix from pushing for more single-player games on the platform.

Dumb Ways: Free For All Review – A Killer Party

[summaraize]

The Dumb Ways To Die series had a very unusual beginning compared to most gaming series, as it started as a series of Australian safety videos to promote railway safety. The videos then led to an earworm of a song you may have heard recently on TikTok. From there, a video game was released for mobile devices in 2013, focusing on a variety of different mini-games with wacky characters where you try to prevent them from dying in idiotic ways. Developer Playside Studios acquired the rights to the franchise back in 2021 and has now released a brand new party-style game for the series known as Dumb Ways: Free For All exclusively for the Meta Quest in VR.

So, how does the series fair with its all-new perspective? Well, let’s just say, you’ll find yourself dining in plenty of dumb ways in Dumb Wys: Free For All.

Virtual Mini-Games

Do not take the name of the game to have you think the game is free to download, though, as the “Free For All” refers to the competition aspect of the mini-games found in the game instead. Dumb Ways: Free For All is a mini-game-focused experience where you can compete in various challenges that befit the Dumb Ways brand. These typically involve you either dying or causing the different characters involved to die in a crazy fashion.

Overall, there isn’t much to look at in Dumb Ways: Free For All from the start, as you are placed inside an airport surrounded by some wacky characters. Besides a settings menu and a cosmetic stand, the only real option is to go play some mini-games. When you’re ready to start playing, go up to the counter and speak to the character to pick between Solo, QuickPlay, and Friends. Solo is obviously designed for you to play by yourself, while both QuickPlay and Friends allows for anywhere from 2-6 players.

Each Solo Tour comprises a certain number of mini-games, with the amount in each growing as you advance. The first Tour has only six mini-games, but that quickly rises to seven with the second set. As you move onward, you will have eight, nine, and even 10 mini-games for the last two Tours in the base game. For those wondering how hard they have to work to unlock all of the tours, you must reach Rank 8 to unlock all 20 of the tours. The game’s leveling system is based on how well you perform in each Tour by earning points and continuing to level up. This can feel like a grind, but it works pretty well here.

If you update the game and download the first DLC set, you also get an additional 10 tours and 25 overall new mini-games to try out as well. These are themed around winter with a lot of ice stages that look great in the game. Another free set is set to come in January (27th), so they are at least providing some solid free updates for players to keep them invested and coming back for more.\

The mini-games found within each of the tours are varied, but also quite similar sometimes. These usually range from either deflecting objects being thrown at you, picking up objects and tossing them, or picking up a projectile weapon and firing it for various means. For the most part, I found that these mini-games were quite fun to play around with, even though some were hit-and-miss. For instance, the physics of some, such as the incoming projectiles mini-games, was not always the greatest. This meant that you would be hit when it looked like you were blocking correctly, which got pretty frustrating.

Each Tour also leads up to an Extreme Weather Warning segment, which can bring in harsh elements such as rain or even blizzard conditions in the first free DLC that was released recently. These sometimes were almost redo’s of prior mini-games with a little twist, while others were new mini-games entirely.

Thankfully, you do not have to be perfect in these mini-games to pass; instead, you just need to do decent enough. At the end of each game, you will get a score that will eventually be tallied up at the end of that specific Tour to give you an overall rating. There were definitely some mini-games that I did better out in a Tour than others, so it’s all about finding the ones that you are really good at.

Dumb Ways: Free For All’s biggest flaw is the fact that you cannot play single mini-games by themselves, but rather always have to play a full Tour to play through them. Playing them solo or creating your own solo playlists would be awesome, but you are restricted to that entirely here. So many of the mini-games are a blast, and going through my favorites on a whim would greatly enhance the overall experience.

After you have earned some in-game currency through the mini-game mode, you can visit the Duty Free station that sells hats for your character, and you can choose their color. While they are listed as hats, technically, there are a few special cases, like a mustache or glasses, but they can’t be paired with another hat. The options here are pretty lacking, though, so don’t expect anything too crazy for you to spend your money on in the game.

The usage of the Meta Quest for Dumb Ways: Free For All is very solid. They use colorful characters and environments to really pop in the pretty simple visuals. The control scheme is also very well handled, with the usage of both hands in most mini-games being very well thought out and designed. Just make sure that you have plenty of room around you, as I definitely had my fair share of experiences hitting something on my desk when I was trying to play stationary.

Dumb Ways: Free For All can be a little buggy sometimes, such as getting stuck on menus after mini-games. I had one case where it got stuck on the level-up screen after finishing a Tour, which required me to restart the game. The good thing was that it still recorded my playthrough, so I did not have to replay that specific tour again for the time being.

Verdict

Finding great party games for VR can often be a difficult task, but Dumb Ways: Free For All is a solid option for you to check out. Being able to play with friends locally or online adds to the appeal here and the abundance of different mini-games helps to sell it even further. The gameplay style between the mini-games can get a bit repetitive at times, and the overall experience feels pretty bare bones outside of the mini-games themselves, so you will have to weigh whether the mini-games themselves are enough to make up for that.

Score: 7.5/10

Pros:

  • Enjoyable mini-games
  • Lots of mini-games and more coming for free
  • Easy-to-use controls

Cons:

  • Can’t play individual mini-games
  • Bare bones experience
  • Buggy at times

No word on what’s causing this or which regions are affected. For now, we’re assuming the outage is worldwide. Once EA/DICE releases an acknowledgment that the server issues are up, we’ll update the article to reflect this.

Regarding what to expect for the franchise this year, EA should reveal the new Battlefield game in full very soon, as DICE intends to hold a large-scale server test in “early 2025” per EAWhile details for the in-development Battlefield game are scarce, EA has confirmed it’s dropping 128-player matches, as well as Specialists, in favor of a more familiar class-based system.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Says Mods “Breathe Life Into the PC Market”

[summaraize]

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, had previously requested PC players to avoid creating offensive and inappropriate mods for the game. Many interpreted this as a negative stance towards modders, but that’s not the case.

In a recent interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi explained his thoughts, revealing that he appreciates mods’ positive impact on video games and even admitted to using them himself.

“I Respect Mods; They Breathe Life Into the PC Market,” Says Naoki Hamaguchi

Final Fantasy mods

“As someone who plays games on PC, I sometimes use mods myself,” Hamaguchi admitted. “I’m aware that mods have come to be accepted by the community and that they bring enjoyment to many players – I see it as a positive thing myself.”

Hamaguchi also clarified his earlier remarks, saying, “I wasn’t trying to tell people not to use mods. It was more about being mindful. Both creators and users alike should ensure mods don’t detract from the intended game experience. There are mods that could shock some players, so I encourage users to research what they’re installing and for creators to be mindful of their audience.”

Considering all this, Hamaguchi’s view on mods seems overwhelmingly positive, as he believes they have greatly benefited the PC market. He further explained, “Mods have played a significant role in the rise of the PC market. Look at series like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls – even years after release, new mods breathe life into these games, making players want to come back to them.”

Hamaguchi also praised the modding community for how quickly it works compared to game companies. “Volunteer communities often move faster than the companies that produced the source material, which creates an exciting atmosphere,” he noted. “I think It’s a fascinating market.”

In related news, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has also urged PC players to avoid creating “offensive or inappropriate” mods for the game.

Phil Spencer Wants Xbox Hardware to Win Based on Capabilities, Embraces People to Be a Member of Xbox Regardless of Screen

[summaraize]

With Microsoft’s Xbox division now a bonafide third-party publisher on other platforms, some might be wondering why would gamers want to buy an Xbox console in the first place, if they can play the company’s games on competing platforms.

In an interview with GamerTag Radio, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was asked this question, which the executive didn’t hesitate to answer.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Wants Gamers to Pick Hardware Based on Its Capabilities and Not the Games

xbox middle east

The Xbox division boss was asked: “Why would I still want an Xbox? What is going to be the reason for me to want Xbox hardware when I can get that experience on another platform?”

According to Spencer, “Yeah, I want people to pick hardware based on the capabilities of that hardware and how that fits into the choices they want to make about where they want to play. And we want our hardware to win based on the hardware capabilities that we have. I think the difference that we’ve seen in the last 20 years. And I think this is good because I come from building games. It’s really game first, not platform first, most of the games you and I will talk about run across so many different platforms.”

Spencer continues, stating that the games at the top of the charts are available on different platforms.

Per Spencer, “And those are the games that are having success. Those are the games that are at the top of the charts. When you look at the most played, most successful games, and I want to build a platform that services those creators, those creators that are trying to meet people on every screen. But let’s say like our own hardware. I think it’s fundamental to what Xbox is. It’s not lost on me. I’ve said over and over that box is in the name of our brand. I’ll say is in the position I’m in. I look at hardware as a critical part of what we do, but not trying to gatekeep the games off of other places for the benefit of it. Let’s go build innovative hardware that people want to use to play, whether that’s in their hands, whether it’s on their television or even other places.”

Continuing with this thought, Spencer adds, “And I love our hardware team and, uh, spent some time with them just this week and the roadmap that they have. And I think we’re learning a lot from this, like Steam Deck, and what does it mean for our games to be there? ROG Ally, what does it mean? Lenovo? Like, it, what does Xbox mean on those platforms? I don’t think we’ve tuned it perfectly yet and it spent a lot of time with the teams on that. But I want to make progress there, LG and the work we’re doing with cloud, um, you know, all of that helps us evolve our platform software. So we really embrace allowing someone to be a member of Xbox on whatever screen they want to play on.”

Expect More Xbox First-Party Games on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5

In the same chat, Spencer basically confirmed more games are headed to competing platforms like the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. When it comes to Xbox first-party games, Spencer notes, “We love our platform and our hardware but we’re not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building(…)our games will show up in more places, no doubt.”

If you’re an Xbox console owner, it might sting a little that every exclusive the platform has seems to be open season to be ported to competing platforms. But in terms of a business, which Xbox is, this makes perfect sense. Ther are literally millions of sales lost by not releasing on non-Xbox platforms, and you can bet Microsoft doesn’t care about fanboy fluff, and is instead focusing on the money they can earn from these first-party games releasing on other platforms.

When it comes to playing Xbox anywhere, Microsoft has bigger plans than just cloud streaming, as Spencer confirmed last year that an Xbox handheld is in development, though it’s “years away” from being released.

Report: Gears of War: E-Day and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Set for 2025 Release

[summaraize]

Microsoft recently held its Xbox Developer Direct event, revealing exciting games like DOOM: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4, set to release this year. However, 2025 appears poised to bring even more surprises, including long-awaited releases for Xbox fans.

According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, 2025 could finally be the “year for Xbox,” with highly anticipated titles like the remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, planned for release between March and June, and a new installment in the Gears of War franchise, Gears of War: E-Day, also set to launch later that year.

Microsoft Reportedly Plans to Launch Gears of War: E-Day and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake in 2025

Gears of War: E-Day and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion release 2025

In case you missed it, we posted a report about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake’s first gameplay details earlier this month, which shed some light on the improvements planned for the massive RPG.

Warren reports that the Oblivion remake is expected to launch between March and June 2025. Meanwhile, Gears of War: E-Day is also in development for release that same year.

Microsoft’s ambitious lineup doesn’t stop there. Warren notes that other major titles, such as The Outer Worlds 2 and Fable, are also slated for 2025, making it a packed release schedule. With such a tight schedule, changes in release dates are always possible.

Additionally, fans can look forward to updates on other anticipated titles like Contraband and Clockwork Revolution, which have been quiet for some time. Warren suggests that the Xbox Games Showcase, held mid-year, could be the platform for these announcements.

Considering all this, 2025 seems to be shaping up as a great year for Xbox—not just because of its impressive game lineup, but also due to other exciting projects in development. One such project is a handheld gaming device, though its release is unlikely to happen before 2025. Xbox head Phil Spencer has hinted that the device is still a few years away.

In other news, insider eXtas1s claims that major Xbox titles may be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The rumored lineup includes Diablo 4, Fallout 4, Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Earlier reports from NateTheHate and Jez Corden also hinted that Xbox games could potentially be supported on both the Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, adding more weight to these claims.

DayZ 2025 Season is Already Starting Off Strong, as Game Manages to Break Multiple Player Records

[summaraize]

In October 2024, Bohemia Interactive released an all-new expansion for DayZ titled Frostline. While things were off to a rocky start, the studio’s continued effort to address issues and performance seems to be paying off. They’ve revealed that DayZ has managed to break many of its records since the expansion’s release!

With DayZ gaining even more popularity, the studio has reaffirmed its commitment to the title and its players, promising even more for this year.

DayZ Sees Nearly 1 Million Active Players Every Week

Revealed via a press release, Bohemia Interactive has shared some impressive game and player stats for the standalone version of DayZ. They revealed that every week, DayZ sees 938,000 weekly active players and 693,000 daily active players. The studio also confirmed that the game had recently peaked at 79,000 concurrent players on Steam. That’s pretty impressive for a survival game now entering its seventh year on the market as a standalone (Arma DayZ mod came out in 2023) release.

As for DayZ Frostline, the newest expansion for the title, Bohemia Interactive confirmed that as of January 2025, it had sold over 530,000 copies across all platforms!

So, what’s next for the acclaimed zombie survival game? Well, we’ll have to wait and see, but the good news is it won’t be long. A “DayZ in 2025” article is set to be published soon. We expect it will discuss several planned updates and potential content drop teases for this year.

Expect Patch 1.27 to be released on live servers soon, given the Experimental patch is available on PC and Xbox already.

Insomniac Games Has a “Really Ambitious Roadmap,” and “Very Aware of Fan Expectations”

[summaraize]

Earlier this week, Insomniac Games announced that its founder, Ted Price, will retire after over 30 years of running the company. Price will stay on until March and then be replaced by a trio of new studio bosses: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang.

While Price might be leaving, that doesn’t mean the studio will be aiming lower, as the studio will continue what they call a “really ambitious roadmap.”

Insomniac Games Is Looking for Continuity on Building What Was Started

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Update 1.004.003

In an interview with Variety, the new studio bosses discussed Price’s upcoming retirement. Dezern says that as the triumvirate takes over, “on great projects and with a really ambitious roadmap, our main thing to do first is to ensure continuity. We want to continue building on what we’ve started and really bringing great games to the world.”

While the studio’s only officially announced game is Marvel’s Wolverine, which is in the same universe as the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, the studio’s roadmap of projects surfaced as part of a big ransomware attack. It’s unknown whether anything there changed, but the roadmap included titles such as the X-Men, Venom’s standalone game and more.

In the same interview, Schneider, who will manage partnerships with other PlayStation Studios, SIE, and Marvel teams, mentioned that they are aware of fan expectations regarding their games.

“We’re very aware of fan expectations, and we strive to meet them and exceed them with every game we make and we want to just continue that run together. We know what makes Insomniac special, and we know what it takes to keep us evolving and thriving into the future,” Schneider notes.

Insomniac Games Still Not Ready to Talk About Marvel’s Wolverine

When it comes to the studio’s officially announced game, Wolverine, Dezern wouldn’t confirm or deny a 2025 release for the action game. We’ve announced ‘Wolverine,’ and we’d love to talk more about ‘Wolverine,’ but we have to be like Logan today, and remain very stoic until it’s time to pop the claws down the road. As much as we’re as much as we have pent up excitement, we got to hold on to it. So that’s, that’s about as much as we could say about our upcoming projects today,” Dezern shared.

With Price leaving, the trio of bosses have big shoes to fill, especially since Insomniac Games is considered by some (including me) as the best first-party PlayStation studio Sony has in their arsenal.

Marvel’s Wolverine has no release date set yet, but it is confirmed to be released on the PS5. For those on PC, you’ll soon be able to play Insomniac’s follow-up to their hit superhero debut game, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PC this January 30, with Nixxes Software doing the development duties.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Unreal Engine 5 Remaster “Definitive” Version Isn’t So Definitive

[summaraize]

Just yesterday, KOEI Tecmo announced that Ninja Gaiden 4 was finally happening after over a decade since the last mainline entry in the series. The announcement included a full-reveal trailer showcasing plenty of gameplay before revealing its fall target release.

However, this wasn’t the only Ninja Gaiden surprise the team had. Immediately after Ninja Gaiden 4’s reveal, the publisher revealed Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a definitive version of Ninja Gaiden 2, remastered in Unreal Engine 5.

Additionally, it was surprise-released today on all major platforms, allowing players to enjoy Ninja Gaiden 2 the way it was intended. However, the so-called “definitive” version of Ninja Gaiden 2 is more in line with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 rather than the original.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Features Better Graphics, But Feels More Like Sigma 2

Long-time Ninja Gaiden fans who jumped onto Ninja Gaiden 2 Black probably have taken notice that the game isn’t really a remaster of the original Ninja Gaiden 2. Despite KOEI Tecmo listing it on Steam as the “definitive” version of Ninja Gaiden 2, players have quickly noticed that the Black version is more based on Sigma 2, which many consider an inferior version of the original sequel. However, unlike Sigma 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black does feature gore and has readded some of the bosses that were missing in Sigma, though beyond a few other things and the visual upgrade, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black appears to be Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with some elements of the original added to it.

To make matters worse, because it’s based more on Sigma, the game seems to lack much of the content of the Sigma games. KOEI Tecmo confirms the missing content, listing a comparison on their website between all game versions.

They also confirmed the changes and absence of the following things:

Balance Adjustment
  • Combat balance such as damage and enemy placements has been adjusted from previous entries in the series.
  • Bosses like the “Giant Buddha Statue: Hatensoku” and the “The Statue of Liberty” do not appear in this title.
Online Features
  • Online features such as ranking and co-op play, which were included in NINJA GAIDEN 2 and NINJA GAIDEN Σ2, are not available in this title.
The “NINJA RACE” Mode
  • The “NINJA RACE Mode,” featured in NINJA GAIDEN Σ2 PLUS, is not included in this title.
Gore
  • Blood and dismemberment effects in this title are based on NINJA GAIDEN 2.
  • However, you can switch the settings to match the effects in NINJA GAIDEN Σ2 via the options menu.

What makes things even more stranger is that, Fumihiko Yasuda, Head of Team NINJA and NINJA GAIDEN 4 producer had this to share about the remaster “This version is crafted to satisfy both those who played the original and newcomers discovering it as a current-generation action game. We’ve meticulously incorporated some of the NINJA GAIDEN Sigma 2 additions while staying true to the challenge and feel of the original 360 version, including its signature gore and violence. We’ve also adjusted the weapon upgrade system to more align with the original release.”

From our hands-on with the title so far, the gameplay is still dialed back in terms of speed from the original, only being a bit faster than Sigma 2’s gameplay. On top of that, in the original Sigma 2 release, the studio had to scale back the enemy count in order to get the game to run smoothly due to hardware hassles at the time. That change looks to remain in the remaster, as it clearly has fewer enemies, though their spawning looks to be based on the original than Sigma 2.

Of course, this isn’t to say that Ninja Gaiden 2 Black isn’t fun. I find it odd that it would be called the definitive version of Ninja Gaiden 2 while being more based on Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and having less content than that version despite adding some of it.

We’re certain someone like Fiend Busa, a modder who created a Ninja Gaiden 2 Black mod for the original Sigma 2, will likely work on a mod for this. If not them, then hopefully someone else as this definitive version of Ninja Gaiden 2 is better described as a blending of the original and Sigma, which might not be what fans of the original were expecting.

This isn’t all that surprising, honestly, considering the studio said they lost the source code to the original two games. As such, they only really had the Sigma games to work around. I assume this is more of a port wrapped around Unreal Engine 5 instead of being built from the ground up, it makes sense why so many elements are from Sigma 2. Hopefully the studio sees the feedback and starts addressing some of the things people are noticing, but for now, we’ll just have to make due with the version we got.

  • Fixed an issue where some terrain was disappearing

That’s it for the Lunar New Year event. Don’t be surprised to see a hotfix to be released by Pocketpair following this.

Path of Exile 2 Download Version 1.013 Rolled Out for 0.1.1b Patch

[summaraize]

Grinding Gear Games has another patch for Path of Exile 2’s early access gamers. This time, it’s for the 0.1.1b patch, which console gamers will see as Path of Exile 2 download version 1.013.

This is another patch that ushers in fixes rather than new content, so temper those expectations. Note that the patch does not involve a server restart.

Path of Exile 2’s New Patch for January 23 Fixes Crashes

  • Added a new client command line option which sends us additional debug information (API markers, NVIDIA Nsight Aftermath, and DRED) from DirectX 12 client crashes. If you’re experiencing a large number of crashes and using DirectX 12, then temporarily enabling this will assist us in identifying the cause. This can be enabled by adding “–ex-crash-report” to your Path of Exile 2 command line arguments/launch options.
  • Fixed a bug where on rare occasions Zarokh, the Temporal could kill all targets of the hourglass time trial skill without giving a chance to avoid it.
  • Fixed a bug where Una was not playing the audio for her song selections.
  • Fixed a client crash related to checkpoint UI.
  • Fixed an instance crash.

While Grinding Gear Games has not specified whether these are the same changelog for consoles, this is the only patch notes that’s new out today, so we’re assuming PC and consoles have the same changes made (minus the PC-specific tweaks).

Once another patch is pushed out, we’ll let our readers know. If the console changelog has anything different, we’ll update the article to reflect it.
