PS All-Stars – Fans Revolt With #ReleaseAbe and #ReleaseDart Campaigns

Do you hear them Santa Monica? The fans are coming and they’ve brought the titans to storm Mt. Olympus.

Okay. Maybe not storming, but this certainly isn’t something that should go unnoticed.

After Sony had cut ties with SuperBotEntertainment, pretty much all pre-planned DLC for PS All-Stars had been cancelled, with the exception of the first four character packs. While this is most likely due to poor character DLC sales numbers, it’s important to note that the recently released “Zeus” and “Isaac Clark” DLC were characters no one was expecting, nor wanted.

In fact, many fans were lusting for some more Iconic PS1 characters, and while Crash and Spyro were most likely out of the question, characters that were originally planned as DLC such as Abe (Oddworld’s) and Dart (Legend of Dragoon) were exactly what fans were hoping for.

There is now a community trying to make that happen.

So if you guys want to help out with getting these characters released, send those tweets over to Santa Monica and Seth Killian. Let them know that there are people out there who still support the game!

Thanks, Linkters, for the find.

The Division Multiplayer – Ubisoft Sheds Details, More on PVP and Clans

The Division, an open-world always-online MMO TPS by Ubisoft Massive set in the middle of deadly outbreak in New York, was one of the more  impressive titles that took everyone by surprise when it was revealed to the world during Ubisoft’s 2013 E3 conference.

But, what exactly does Ubisoft Massive have in stored for this brand-new IP? Senior Community Developer, Antoine Emond, answers questions from curious community members about what the team behind The Division is planning with the multiplayer and the PvP experiences on a recent UbiBlog.

“The Division is an online, open world RPG experience where exploration, objectives and player progression are all essential,” writes Edmond. “You can team up with a group of friends in co-op and jump in and jump out at any time. In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience suspenseful scenarios where danger can come from anywhere and anyone.”

Speaking of the PvP experiences, fans may be interested to know that The Division’s PvP combat will be playing a huge roll, according to Edmond. He goes on to further detail, saying, “the choices you make as a Division agent can either spur a recovery or plunge the city further into chaos. The people you meet in certain areas of the game can either be your best friends or your worst enemies. So you’ll constantly be making decisions that will impact the world around you.”

Now, of course, no MMO game would be complete without some sort of clan or guild feature, which Edmond revealed the following about The Division’s clan system: “Right now we have no plans to cap the number of players who can be affiliated to any particular clan. We are also looking to have a very extensive web-based clan support system for all players in The Division. But we should have more to come around all this soon.”

Additionally, as you might of noticed during the reveal gameplay for The Division, your character features plenty of customization options, ranging from thousands of weapon types, skill combinations, gear and much more.

Although The Division was made with next-generation in mind, Ubisoft hasn’t ruled out of bringing their brand-new IP to the PC platform in the near future. Currently The Division is set to be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, with a release date to be announced in the near future.

Black Ops 2 Zombies Dev Introduces The Ray Gun Mark II in New Vengeance DLC

Buried is a brand new Zombies experience included in Black Ops 2‘s third and upcoming DLC, Vengeance.

Along with an updated theme and all new gameplay, the classic, fan-favorite Ray Gun, introduced all the way back in the original Zombies mode from World at War, is getting a bit of a make-over.

Zombies Design Lead at Treyarch, Jimmy Zielinski, recently talked about the new Ray Gun, what it does, and what inspired its redesign.

Zielinski explains that “It’s a re-imagining of the original Ray Gun with new functionality. We looked at what the original Ray Gun did, which was an explosive projectile weapon. We decided to make a real laser beam gun that goes through everything, and that’s what we did.”

He added that “The original Ray Gun would shoot a projectile and make an impact at that place and explode. The Mark II is actually a laser beam, or bolt, that does a triple burst and fires down range through walls or zombies. If the wall’s not too thick like cement, it’s going to pass through – and effectively hit – as many zombies as you have lined up. It’s in the box and you have a chance to pull it. It’s also been added to all the previous Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies maps.”

As for the design of the new-and-improved laser gun, Zielinski mentioned that the original desinger of the first Ray Gun, Max Porter, “…also made this design. It still bears his name. We just kind of talked about it and he just went away and did the art.”

“It’s cobbled together with parts of the original Ray Gun, plus some new bits. It’s an original creation that really harkens back to the old design, and it can be Pack-A-Punched just like the other weapons.”

1-raygun+interview

Along with the Ray Gun Mark II, Black Ops 2: Vengeance DLC will come packed with Buried, a brand new, western-themed Zombies experience, as well as four brand new multiplayer maps. Check them out here.

Xbox 360 users will get there hands on Vengeance first this July 2.

Sony Explains Why PlayStation Plus Is Required For PlayStation 4 Online Play

During Sony’s surprise-filled 2013 E3 conference (no DRM and the ability to play used games), one of the more shocking announcements was that PlayStation 4 will require a Playstation Plus account in-order to access the online multiplayer component of games.

In the latest issue of Famitsu, the popular Japanese video game magazine, they spoke to Sony’s World Wide Studio boss, Shuhei Yoshida. He states that keeping the service to play online free would’ve been “absurd” due to the large investment of resources that Sony has made for the online infrastructure.

Additionally, Yoshida also had the following to say (thanks Kotaku for the translation):

The main pillar for the PS4 will be online play. We’re developing many new ways to play and connect which requires a large investment of resources, considering the cost, to try to keep such a service free and consequently lower the quality would be absurd. We decided that if that’s the case, then it would be better to receive proper payment and continue to offer a good service.”

PlayStation owners who currently have PlayStation Plus accounts won’t need to worry as PSN accounts will transfer over to the PlayStation 4. Those who don’t will be able to purchase the PlayStation Plus subscription for either $5 USD per month or $50 USD per year.

Though a PlayStation Plus account is mandatory to play online, some of PlayStation 4’s free to play titles such as DC Universe and Planetside 2 won’t require a PSN account to play online. The Playstation 4 is set to launch sometime this holiday season for $399 USD.

New Borderlands 2 Update Now Available For The Playstation 3, PC And Xbox 360 To Come Soon [Updated]

A new update for Borderlands 2 is now available for the PlayStation 3 which fixes the “unable to enumerate additional content offerings” bug – usually occuring when trying to access the in-game store.

Additionally, this update fixes a few bugs. Check out the patch notes below:

June 28th Patch Notes

  • Added the ability to preview and purchase Additional Content characters from the ‘New Game’ character selection screen and when joining another player’s game and choosing your character.
  • Added un-purchased Additional Content campaigns to the Fast Travel station list to streamline the ability to purchase the new content. These locations appear with asterisks next to their names.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the in-game Additional Content store to frequently return “Unable to enumerate Additional Content offerings” errors.
  • Fixed a bug causing the user to not be taken to the appropriate offer in the PSN store when trying to purchase a customization from a customization station

Those who are waiting for a fix or have been trying to figure out what the requirements are for getting the Assault On Dragon Keep skins and heads will have to wait a little longer, as Chris F. stated that Gearbox will be doing something different to make them available in the future. Also, the folks at Gearbox are going to be resolving the issue where trying to access your quest log on the PC version after completing x amount of missions on Assault On Dragon’s keep will crash your Borderlands 2 game every time. It will be apart of the next PC update.

At the moment, there’s no time frame on when the PC and Xbox 360 is expected to receive the same update, but when more information becomes available, we will be sure to update you guys.

Update

The latest patch has now made its way to the PC version of Borderlands 2. Check out the patch notes here.

Activision CEO Weighs In On Xbox One, Microsoft Needs to “Convince People That the Higher Price Point is Worth It”

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg weighs in on the ongoing console war between Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One, saying that while Sony’s price point is more appealing, Microsoft needs to “convince people that [their] higher price point is worth it.”

Speaking to Gamed Industry, Hirsberg said, “If you do a focus group of a gazillion people and you show them two prices for two competitive products, 100% always prefer the lower price.”

“I think from a first impression standpoint the win goes to Sony, at least as it relates to pricing,” he added. “Microsoft is going to have to win the hearts and minds and convince people that the higher price point is worth it, and that it provides really meaningful capabilities that will be meaningful to consumers. And it’s a long game, so I am sure that’s what they intend on trying to do.”

“I feel they have to show why that’s a good thing and why it’s worth the premium and deserves inclusion and why it’s something that gamers are going to come to really value and appreciate.”

Earlier, we sat down with Microsoft’s Director of Marketing, Craig Flannagan, who spoke of the Xbox One’s more convincing features, namely the Cloud and the Kinect. In his words, “Every Xbox One’s going to come with a Kinect, every Xbox One is going to be connected to The Cloud. That gives you opportunity.”

“It’s going to be a fun battle to watch,” Hirsberg concluded. “But I think they definitely have to win hearts and minds in terms of the value of it.”

Do you agree with Hirshberg’s statements? In your thoughts, what does Microsoft need to do in order to pull ahead in the console race? Let us know in the comments!

Call of Duty Dev Sledgehammer Games Hiring For “Fresh New AAA Aural Experience”

Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games is looking to hire an Assistant Dialogue Specialist to create a “fresh new AAA aural experience” for the studio’s next project.

Though Sledgehammer Games is not currently involved in the making of Call of Duty: Ghosts, the team is heads down in their next project, according to previous reports, which also indicated that the company was “actively recruiting top talent for [their] Call of Duty development team.”

More recent job listings reveal that accepted applicants for the Assistant Dialogue Specialist position will be asked “to help create a fresh new AAA aural experience for our next project.
