Xbox One’s Kinect Capable Of Reading Redemption Codes

In what I personally think is some pretty cool news that future Xbox One owners can look forward to, it appears that the new Kinect bundled with every package of Microsoft’s next-generation console is capable of more than recognizing voice commands and movements.

As IGN reports, the Kinect 2.0 will be able to scan and recognize QR codes according to the latest tweet from Microsoft’s corporate vice president, Marc Whitten, which reads “To my reddit friends — yup — this works!” referencing a Reddit thread about the topic.

Ideally, you will no longer need to manually input all those bonus, limited edition, or pre-order item codes when first booting up a game. Sweet!

Xbox One is set to be available this November, for $499 USD.

How do you guys feel about Kinect 2.0 being able to read codes? Something cool? Let us know in the comment section below!

PlanetSide 2 To Make A Push To The eSports Scene With ‘Battle Islands’

During this year’s MLG Spring Championship Event in Anaheim, California, Sony Online Entertainment revealed some upcoming plans for their  free-to-play MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2, that will help push PlanetSide 2 into the realm of eSports.

PlanetSide 2′s creative director Matt Higby announced that fans can look forward to a few new additions that will take the large-scale battle of PlanetSide 2 and make it more focused on outfit versus outfit gameplay. According to Higby, this new feature called ‘Battle Islands’ “will help usher in the game into the realm of eSports.”

Speaking with ShackNews, Higby said “The idea of Battle Islands is, rather than having a full-on 64 square kilometer continent, they’re a little bit smaller, they’re more focused and they’re designed for smaller-scale combat. The battle islands are also set up so that when we do our eSports gameplay mode, they’ll be what’s used. They’ll be instanced in that case, instead of in our massively multiplayer mode. In the instanced version, they’re set up for 48 vs. 48 of objective-based combat and gameplay.”

Higby also mentioned that all gear, features, and vehicles that are available in the full world of Auraxis can still be found in Battle Islands, even though it will have a heavier emphasis on infantry action. Battle Islands are set to be integrated into live servers for non-MLG types to enjoy as well. The studio will also be introducing a Battle Island that includes ‘Nexus’, a throwback to the original PlanetSide title that will feature icy environments.

Check out the Nexus Battle Island in action below:

Currently the release date for brand new Battle Islands feature is still unknown, but you can expect to see it rather soon.

GTA V – First Official Gameplay Video Coming Soon, Multiplayer Called “Grand Theft Auto Online”

Grand Theft Auto 5 is just a few months away from release, and while we have only seen scripted gameplay trailers, Rockstar is preparing to debut the first official gameplay video real “soon”, along with the first multiplayer details.

In the recent Asked and Answered that Rockstar held for GTA V, Rockstar stated the following concerning the gameplay reveal.

“Will we ever see some GTA V gameplay?”  – @ASTR4Lx

Yes. Soon (or in September if you don’t want to see it before you play it… it’s up to you) – the first Official Gameplay Video is on its way…

Along with this, they confirmed that GTA V online won’t simply be called GTA V Online, but rather “Grand Theft Auto Online.” Their goal is to create an incredible online experience that’s fun, fair, and healthy for everyone.

“When will we get information on GTA V multiplayer?” – @camronbnl3

Expect to hear some first details soon – it’s called Grand Theft Auto Online and we’re very excited to unveil it for you sometime this summer.

“A healthy GTAIV multiplayer game is really hard to come by nowadays. By healthy I mean players play for good clean fun. Every time I join a game it’s either modded or hacked. When I create a custom game, some abusive d*ck joins my game and ruins everyone’s fun game. I can’t just kick him out unless everyone votes. Do something about this in GTAV, Rockstar.” – received via Mouthoff

Ever since Grand Theft Auto IV was released, we’ve continued to integrate newer and stronger methods of cheat detection and prevention for each of our games. While we have yet to reveal specifically what new anti-cheating measures we have planned for GTAV, rest assured that we’re focused on creating as level a playing field and as fair, fun (and healthy as you say) an experience as possible for everyone. There will always be some people who want to cheat but we are going to do our best to stop it. We have spent a lot of time and effort making an incredible Online experience and proper support is part of that package.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 September 17th. No news whether it’ll come to PC or next gen consoles at a later date.

Battlefield 3 – Semi-Secret Pathway Discovered on Noshahr Canals, Did You Know?

User “Tallkido” recently posted a very interesting video on the r/Battlefield3 sub-reddit by YouTuber “Claudio Sad” which holds a “secret” many of you, even some of the more veteran among us, may not have known.

As documented by these fine gentlemen in the video below, what if I told you there is a secret pathway (or, at least, a relatively unknown pathway) that will get you from the Russian spawn to the B flag in a game of Conquest on Noshahr Canals in a matter of seconds, all while remaining almost completely undetected?

I sure didn’t know about it, and due to the amount of up-votes this post has received so far, I take it that a lot of other Battlefield-ers didn’t know either. Check out the video below:

[youtube id=”LzbOfO4Fkpk” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Sure, it isn’t a huge “secret” by any stretch of the meaning, but it’s pretty cool to see something like this pop up after almost two years of game time.

By the way, if you are a PlayStation Plus members and still don’t own Battlefield 3, you’ll want to read this to find out how to get it for free.

So, did you know?

Microsoft Might Extend Xbox 360 ‘Games With Gold’ Offer, Major Nelson Issues Apology

Games With Gold, a promotion from Microsoft that was announced in their 2013 E3 conference which lets any Xbox Live Gold member download two games per month at no charge is now underway.

However, that’s not to say it hasn’t gotten off to a rather rocky start. The company received some displeasing feedback from the community due to the promotion’s first game announcement: Defense Grid: The Awakening.

Xbox Live’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb recently issued an apology on Reddit, addressing the feedback and disappointment of the community for the first game that was picked. It read, “Sorry about the disappointment. Not sure how people started to assume that H3 and AC2 were coming in July. I thought it was pretty clear in the briefing, but I guess not that clear.”

Although, the above statement does seem to contradict what the Xbox Support twitter account recently stated:

BODefKXCQAER0cO

Additionally, when asked if Microsoft had any plans of continuing the Games With Gold offer beyond it’s initial term, set to finish at the end of the year, Major Nelson replied, saying, “anything is possible, we’ll see how the program goes.”

Would you guys like to see Microsoft extend the Games With Gold offer past it’s initial term? Also, were you upset with the first pick for a free game? Let us know in the comment section below.

Fans of Borderlands 2 on the Xbox 360 platform can expect to be greeted by an update tomorrow, the next time they boot up their copy of the game.

  • Increased stability of long play sessions.

Call of Duty: Ghosts “Free Fall” Dynamic Map Officially Announced As A Pre-order Bonus

Mark Rubin, executive producer at Infinity Ward, today confirmed that for those who pre-order Call of Duty: Ghosts from a participating retailers will get a timed exclusive multiplayer map called “Free Fall”.

lightbox1_lg

call-of-duty-ghosts_free-fall_descent_overhead

As an example of just one of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ new dynamic map events, Free Fall drops players into a shattered skyscraper on the brink of collapse. Sideways staircases climb into the night sky, elevator shafts run along the ground, and what were once windows now form a terrifying glass floor, hundreds of feet above the city streets. Free Fall’s close-quarters combat and frenetic action are then thrown into overdrive as the ruined skyscraper continues to fall throughout the match. With every drop, the accompanying shockwaves cause further destruction, disrupting sightlines and constantly evolving paths and chokepoints as the map changes in real-time.

“Dynamic map events change the way players approach the game, and Free Fall does a great job illustrating this new mechanic,” said Mark Rubin, executive producer at Infinity Ward. “As the match progresses, the geometry of the world continues to change and players need to adjust on the fly or else. It’s a really fun new feature that adds layers of strategy and constantly evolving gameplay options for players. And this is just one of the many new approaches we’re putting into Ghosts’ multiplayer across the board. There’s so much more that we look forward to sharing in the weeks to come.”

Interesting. Hopefully it isn’t just small things with minor earthquakes here and there. Call of Duty: Ghost is set to release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC November 5th, with the PS4 and Xbox One version date yet to be announced.

Xbox 360 “Games With Gold” Promotion – First Free Game Revealed

Back in June, during Microsoft’s E3 conference, it was revealed that those with a Xbox Live Gold membership have some rather sweet perks coming their way this July.

Microsoft announced that they would be making blockbuster titles such as Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2 available for download, free of charge, once the Games With Gold promotion goes live this July.

With July now upon us, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download the first game through the promotion: the arcade game Defense Grid: The Awakening, normally valued at $9.99 USD or 800 Microsoft Points. Is now up for grabs for free up until July 16th according to the latest entry in Major Nelson’s blog.

Unfortunately, news about Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2 becoming available for free with the Games With Gold promotion is scarce. Current information about this promotion states that it will include these two titles as apart of the deal, but with no time frame as to when we can expect them to be free.

The Games With Gold promotion is set to last up until the release of Microsoft’s next-gen console, the Xbox One, which will hit store shelves some time this November for $499 USD.
