Play Black Ops 2 Uprising DLC on the PlayStation 3 and PC this May

Last week, Black Ops 2‘s second piece of downloadable content, Uprising, launched for Xbox 360 users.

It featured four brand new multiplayer maps, including a re-imagining of the fan-favorite Firing Range from the original Black Ops, and a whole new Zombie experience that has you trying to escape the dark dungeons of Alcatraz as a squad of zombie-slaying gangsters, played by famous actors Joe Pantoliano, Ray Liotta, Michael Madsen, and Chazz Palmentiri.

Today, Activision and Treyarch have announced that the Uprising DLC will make its way to PlayStation 3 and PC users this May 16, exactly one month after the Xbox 360 release.

For $14.99, or $0 for those who’ve already purchased the Black Ops 2 season pass, you get:

  • Magma – MP Map
  • Encore – MP Map
  • Vertigo – MP Map
  • Studio (Firing Range) – MP Map
  • Mob of the Dead – Zombies Map

Halo 4 Weapon Tuning Continues, Join-in-Progress Settings Tweaked

Halo 4 developers 343 Industries yet again addresses the current state of weapon tuning in the latest Halo Bulletin.

Ever since Title Update 3, the multiplayer team behind Halo 4’s War Games have been able to tweak weapons on the fly, making testing a much more streamlined process. This meant good things for the Halo community, as their feedback could be implemented quickly and changes could be made swiftly.

Early last month, 343i announced that they would be taking a much more in-depth look at weapon tuning, specifically with the primary weapons used in Halo 4’s War Games like the DMR, Battle Rifle, LightRifle and Assault Rifle. Further updates arrived mid-month and today, we get yet another look at the current state of weapon tuning.

Check out what the team had to say about the Battle Rifle, DMR/LightRifle, and Assault Rifle below:

Battle Rifle

We announced last week that we’re investigating the feasibility of a 4-shot Battle Rifle and saw a lot of interest regarding how many bullets it takes to kill an enemy. There are indeed complications that exist around a BR that takes exactly 4 shots (or 12 bullets) to kill, and most relate specifically to latency and online play. While a 12-bullet kill feels good and rewards accurate players in a LAN setting, the vast majority of the game is played online, and the 11 -bullet kill provides a consistent online experience while still rewarding skill. Right now, we are testing a 4-shot BR that kills on the 11th bullet, which allows for a small margin of error in online play.

We had also mentioned the reduced rate of fire on the BR. When we brought the BR to a 4-shot, the weapon was dominating at all ranges. To balance it out, the fire rate now matches the DMR exactly in current testing.

DMR and LightRifle

We’ve slightly reduced the range at which the reticle turns red for the DMR, and once again matched the LightRifle to this distance. This is based off some feedback we received last week that questioning whether or not it is currently too easy to engage people across the map. To maintain skillful long range battles, we’ve reduced this range slightly for this week’s testing. We’re also investigating slightly increasing the rate of fire on the LightRifle when zoomed, which increases its viability at range.

Assault Rifle

The current Assault Rifle kills in 16 rounds, making it technically possible to kill 2 players with one magazine if not a single shot is missed. Our current balance testing reduces the rounds to kill by 2 or 3 shots, making this feat a bit more achievable. However, a significant reduction in auto-aim makes this quite difficult and demands a bit more skill from players who wield the AR. Our current tests bring us to an optimal kill time range that lies between that of Halo: CE’s and Halo 3’s Assault Rifles.

343i added that a release schedule for the new weapon tune is currently in the works and that more details should be available next week.

In addition, new join-in-progress settings went live this past Monday in order to keep things as fair as possible during matchmaking. Check out the details below:

  • Once a match has passed just over half of the total game time, Join-in-Progress is disabled across all game modes and playlists.
  • Rumble Pit now has the smallest Join-in-Progress window, only allowing players to join during the first few kills of a match.
  • In Slayer matches outside of Team Throwdown and Team Doubles, players will no longer join after one team has reached just over half of the score limit.
  • In King of the Hill and Oddball, players will no longer join in the second half of the game in regards to score limit.
  • In Grifball, players will no longer join single-round matches if over 3 goals have been scored by one team. We will be updating Grifball Pro to similar settings in the next update.
  • In Team Throwdown and Team Doubles, players will no longer join after a small join window during and before the first moments of a match.

What do you guys think about the current state of weapon tuning in Halo 4?

New Battlefield 4 Promotional Poster Advertises Commander Mode, Battlelog 2.0 and Premium

Earlier Battlefield 4 promotional material spotted last month at the video game retailer EB Games advertised the return of Commander Mode and the ability to play as three different factions in Battlefield 4’s multiplayer.

Today, yet another poster surfaces, spotted by BF4Central, once again advertising Commander Mode as well an upgraded Battlelog 2.0 and the return of another Premium service.

Like the previous poster, this one doesn’t appear to be official EA marketing material, but material made up by an EB Games employee who may or may not have correct information about Battlefield 4. Oddly, it lists the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as platforms on which the game will release, but it’s missing any indication of a PC release, the platform which the game’s 17-minute demonstration was showcased on.

Check out the poster below:

battlefield-4-ebgames-promo-640x1436

Other than the return of Commander Mode, none of the information is particularly exciting or all that new. DICE has already confirmed they will “definitely do Premium for Battlefield 4,” and they’ve already teased Battlelog 2.0.

It does, however, look more and more likely that the Commander Mode, last featured in Battlefield 2142 but ditched for Battlefield 3, will be returning in Battlefield 4. According to the poster, players may have to rank up in order to access it.

What do you guys think? Are you getting hyped for the return of Commander Mode in Battlefield 4, or are you keeping your hopes at a more moderate level?

Halo 4 Castle Map Pack DLC Review

The third and final DLC for Season Pass holders, the Castle Map Pack, has arrived almost five months after Halo 4’s initial release. A lot has been made of not only the direction the game is heading in, but also the quality of the DLC thus far. After the lackluster Crimson Map Pack, 343 Industries followed it up with a much better showing in the Majestic Map Pack (which this reviewer quite enjoyed, though hardly found impressive). So does Castle finish off the DLC on a high note, helping to justify the purchase of a Season Pass? Or does it falter merely serving as a cheap cash-in on the Halo name? Read on to find out.

Outcast

Halo 4 Outcast

The big claim for Outcast is the vehicular combat between Wraith vs. Mantis. Up to this point, the only way to see these two pieces of heavy armory square off was Campaign, Spartan Ops, or edited in by Forge. While the battles between the two can be quite enjoyable, the duration of these encounters are often brief with the victor usually being the one who got their reticule on the enemy first. Once you get past the billing of these two behemoths duking it out for the first time in the competitive environment, this map falls flat on its face.

Visually speaking, this is one of the most generic maps out there coming off more as a Forge environment waiting for the objects to be added rather than a full fledged map. A few shades of sand colored rocks make up the vast majority of the color palette. Pulsing lights line the inside portions of the main cave and in the side tunnels, but other than the steel walkways embedded in the Red Team and Blue Team bases, 95% of what you will be looking at is rocks, dirt, and sand.

Currently, the Castle DLC playlist has games setup for 6v6 with various gametypes included to help showcase how to achieve the most fun on the new maps. However, the default variants for Oddball and CTF on Outcast are quite dull and really miss the mark on fun factor. My chief issue with Outcast is the steel walkways directly above both flags are extremely advantageous. Unlike other portions of the map, the sight lines are not exceedingly long when occupying a walkway. For a defending player, there isn’t much in terms of long range fire you need to worry about. If an enemy somehow manages to get within close proximity of the flag, the height advantage makes it quite easy to drop a grenade below at the opponent’s feet significantly reducing their health and making their escape with the flag last merely a few steps. If radar was turned off, stealthily approaching your enemy would be more of a plausible strategy. The railing in front of the steel walkway also absorbs an abnormally high amount of fire coming from enemy Ghosts and Warthogs. Many times when I was on the walkway fighting an enemy vehicle, I seldom felt the need to find cover until the firefight lasted more than 5 seconds (going up against a Wraith or Mantis, however, is a much different story). As long as a couple teammates stay back with you, the combination of height advantage, cover, and focused fire can give your opponents absolute fits. The same issues apply when trying to capture the enemy flag. Even achieving an overkill at the enemy base will buy you barely enough time to get halfway back to your base with the flag before the enemy conveniently spawns close to your proximity. Bringing the flag halfway back to base never made me feel I gained some sort of advantage. Oddball shares some of the same issues with CTF. A strategy I’ve noticed developing is getting the Oddball and bringing it back to the easily defendable bases. While the logic behind the strategy is quite sound, it absolutely wrecks the flow of the match with teams often times holding the ball in excess of 45 seconds at a time.

After seeing and playing Outcast, its really hard not to shake the feeling that this is a throw away map from the Crimson Map Pack.  Firefights are sparse, the map design and layout are uninspired, bases are too easy to defend, and the Mantis v. Wraith matchup is overhyped. While I won’t say its the worst map over the course of all the DLC, it would definitely finish last amongst the maps from Majestic and Castle.

Perdition

Halo 4 Perdition

Easily the most accessible map of the three included, Perdition is a nice mix of wide roads for Warthogs and Ghosts to easily wreak havoc and short pathways that keep the infantry combat going at a consistent clip. While the map comes off as rather large, finding the focal point of gunfire on foot is actually quite easy and takes almost no time at all. A good sense of direction, two fully charged sprints, and a few extra steps of walking is all it takes to get into the thick of things. No easy task for a map of this size.

The default weapon spawns include 2 of the seldom used Concussion Rifles, a Needler, a Rocket Launcher, and a time delayed Sniper Rifle. If you are trying to flip a vehicle that is giving you fits, then the Concussion Rifle can come in handy, but sticking to the default weapons or going for other power weapons is a better strategy. At each team spawn you’ll find a single Ghost and Warthog in close proximity. The most important thing to note is the neutral spawn of the Rocket Warthog towards the center of the map. Since it spawns right at the focal point of no less than 3 pathways, it can also serve as a nice stationary turret should the enemy team be absent minded enough to not notice its occupied on the radar (which happens quite often). The best use, however, is having a driver/gunner tandem taking out all oncoming vehicles and infantry across the entire map. As long as the driver makes use of the handbrake to avoid the occasional divider or obstacle in the wide roads, the Rocket Warthog can really change the tide of the map.

While I admit Perdition doesn’t look like anything special, this map really has the ‘it’ factor. Despite being a fairly large asymmetrical map, it plays small enough so that infantry combat is just as viable an option as vehicle combat. The sense of always having an impact whether you’re on foot or in a vehicle easily makes Perdition the staff favorite of the Castle Map Pack.

DayBreak

Halo 4 Daybreak

At first glance, Daybreak comes off as a relatively straight forward symmetrical map, with two similar looking bases directly opposite each other, but closer inspection will reveal a highly nuanced asymmetrical map. The differences begin to crop up immediately once you are on top of either base. Red Team’s base has very sparse coverage on the roof with a man cannon that quickly transports players to the top of the center ridge. While the man cannon isn’t present on top of Blue Team’s base, there is a connecting walkway from the base that allows players to reach the center ridge without the need to jump. Blue Team base also has the advantage of more barricades on top allowing for more protection from long range fire. An interesting difference is the air lift inside Blue Team base. As a Red Team player, I only utilized it if my teammates could clear any opposing players off the roof so I could bring the flag down the center and towards the ridge. This was often the case in games where communication was utilized. When communicaion wasn’t used, it was almost guaranteed death venturing up the lift and the flag being reset.

The default weapon spawns entail a sniper rifle spawning on top of both bases (eerily reminiscent of Blood Gulch), a rocket launcher spawning near the ghost, and a time-delayed Spartan Laser on the center ridge. Both bases will get a Mongoose and Warthog that spawn towards the back, with both teams having a fair shot at grabbing the neutral spawn Ghost and Banshee (though it never hurts to carry a plasma pistol in case the other team beats you by a couple steps).

The layout of the map could be simplified by stating there is an elevated pathway that extends down the center of the map connecting both bases with a ‘ring’ surrounding it. While the outer ring is predominantly the focus of vehicular combat, there are definitely moments where a good long range 4v4 infantry battle can be waged. Having a sole Banshee on the map can feel unbalanced at first, but as long as your team understands the concepts of focused DMR fire and the need for plasma pistols, the enemies reign in the sky shouldn’t last too long.

CTF is definitely the go to mode on this map. Bringing a flag back to base successfully requires a bit more strategy than other maps. Often times, I found myself having to wait inside the base for periods of time, meleeing oncoming foes, and having my teammates clear the outside before I begin making my way back to base. Since the sightlines are so long on the outer ring, a getaway in a Warthog or Mongoose isn’t a sure fire move for securing the flag. Speaking of the Warthog, I am rather interested to see how the impending damage boost to the gunner position will affect how this map plays. Currently, it just feels like it takes too many shots to net a kill on an enemy. The shields deplete fast enough, but once they pop, the enemy generally has enough time to find cover around the corner of one of the many rocks despite having reduced movement speed. Not to mention, one sticky grenade and a couple seconds of focused DMR fire is all it takes to destroy a Warthog.

Even on the default 6v6, regardless of the gametype, there are definitely matches where you feel you can’t find the action. Trekking on foot on the outer ring can sometimes lead to minute intervals before you find gunfire. In some instances, you’ll find players who camp in crevices and along the rock face in attempts to achieve an assassination. There are quite a bevy of these hiding spots so its hard to focus your reticule on just the ‘usual’ spots since enemies (or teammates) can be anywhere. As a result, this can really slow down matches, in particular the Slayer variants. Daybreak can definitely run the entire gamut ranging from woefully boring one match to wildly fun the next.

While the amount of camping spots on the outer ring might not always result in an action packed match, Daybreak more often than not inspires awes rather than yawns.

Wrap-Up

Although there is potential for future DLC, the Castle Map Pack signifies the end for content included in the Halo 4 War Games Map Pass. While Castle isn’t the map pack fans had hoped for, the fun provided by Daybreak and Perdition make it a worthwhile purchase for now. That being said, getting into a matchmaking game with a Majestic Map Pack map is nigh impossible at this point in time despite its initial popularity. If the Castle Map Pack were to follow this trend, a month from now your only way of playing these maps would be in a custom game lobby. You might want to save your money unless you get in on the initial craze, or the popularity of the Castle Map Pack is still fervent months after release.

“Call of Duty: Ghosts” Outed By Various Retailers, Listed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Like a ghost, listings of “Call of Duty: Ghosts” for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have appeared and disappeared after being spotted on the websites of various retailers like Target and Tesco.

Last month, YouTube personality Drift0r allegedly outed “Call of Duty: Ghosts'” first leaked details gathered from an “insider” who was “part of the Call of Duty machine.” He listed a few features that indicated a future setting for the next Call of Duty, more dynamic multiplayer maps and more destruction. You can read the full details here.

Today, both Target and Tesco seem to have mistakenly listed the title on their websites, revealing what looks like the game’s box art as well as confirming its title, “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and its developer, Infinity Ward.

Tesco, for example, listed the game’s release date as December 30, 2013, which seems a bit off as Call of Duty titles have traditionally released in the month of November.

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 10.19.13 AM

More realistically, Target has listed the game’s release date as November 5, which is a Tuesday, with a common price tag of $59.99 USD. Even still, Call of Duty titles are typically released on the second Tuesday of November, not the first.

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 10.23.26 AM

Check out the game’s alleged box art.

With May quickly approaching, we’re expecting an official announcement from Activision of the next Call of Duty soon. Until then, we’ll still need to consider “Call of Duty: Ghosts” rumor and speculation.

Thanks, Rob and “TangoKomando,” for the tip!

Activision Promises a Call of Duty Experience Beyond the TV or PC, Unique to Mobile

Activision wants to create a Call of Duty experience unique to the mobile platform, one that will “evolve” the way customers interact with the brand.

With mobile sales only going “okay” for the company, according to Activision Blizzard’s Jon Estanislao who recently spoke at DMW Games in Los Angeles, Activision is looking into ways they might increase their presence in the mobile market, specifically with the Call of Duty franchise.

“We’re definitely looking to reach out to our core audience and engage them beyond their TV or PC and then give them new experiences around Call of Duty that are unique for that device,” said Estanislao.

“Going forward for us, how do we really take that Call of Duty experience, what is the essence of it?” he asks. “These kinds of grandiose, immerse experiences–how do we move that to mobile or tablet? From a development perspective, we’re investing a lot more in understanding how to marry that together with how customers expect to play on those devices.”

Estanislao admitted that it may be the size of the company that has gotten in the way of capitalizing on mobile gaming: “Sometimes it takes a bit longer for large companies like ourselves because our DNA isn’t necessarily that flexible. But I think we’re at that stage, we have dedicated internal studios to work on it, and folks from outside the industry that we’re bringing in.”

So far, platforms like the PS Vita, iOS or Android have received only watered-down ports of Call of Duty, like Black Ops: Delassified and Black Ops Zombies.

Would you play a dedicated mobile version of Call of Duty on your handheld device the same way you play on consoles/PC?

Borderlands 2 – New Patch Fixes Unlimited Bank Vault Glitch and More, Now Live

As we reported earlier, Gearbox is patching a glitch that allowed players to essentially hoard as many items as they pleased in their bank storage. Along with a number of other fixes, said patch is now live on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

However, for those who have used this unlimited bank space glitch, any additional items that have been stored won’t be removed or missing from your bank once this patch is applied.

For the full list of patch notes, feel free to scroll down below:

April 18th 2013 Patch Notes

General
  • Added support and compatibility for upcoming content, including character customizations unlocked by playing Poker Night 2.
  • Fixed an issue where bank and stash capacity could be exceeded. This change prevents additional items from being added to stash / bank until capacity is below the maximum — it does not forcibly remove or delete any items.
  • Added a preview of available premium customizations when using a customization station so that players can see what a purchased head or skin would look like before buying.
  • Fixed an exploit where players could become invincible occasionally through the Siren’s Res skill.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from choosing a new customization from SHiFT when creating a character immediately after redeeming a customization code.
  • Added a new automatic backup feature — the game will periodically create a backup of your current character so that there is something to fall back on if your character save becomes corrupted.
  • The game will now attempt to automatically delete older compatibility packs that are no longer needed in order to free up some hard drive space.
Missions
  • Fixed issues with the following missions that could cause players to get stuck or not be able to complete them:
    • Bad Hair Day
    • Best Minion Ever
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the “Wildlife Preservation” mission boss to sometimes continue fighting after the encounter in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
  • (Captain Scarlett DLC) Fixed an issue that could cause Scarlett to not drop Scarlett’s Greed in the fight with Roscoe.
Equipment
  • Fixed a bug that caused the player’s grenade count to not be saved properly if they were using a Grenadier class mod.
  • Fixed a bug causing Seraph items of the day to incorrectly be capped at level 55.
  • Rebalanced the Gunzerker’s Titan class mod to be more in line other Gunzerker class mods.
  • Fixed an issue where the Evolution shield could incorrectly list a Recharge Delay of 0.00 seconds.
  • Fixed audio from Impact shields not playing when connected to another player.
  • Fixed an issue causing audio distortion in some cases when a transfusion projectile got stuck inside an object.

In addition, Telltale games have also released a trailer of Poker Night 2, which, upon playing, unlocks some pretty rad customization skins and heads for Borderlands 2 and Team Fortress 2. Check it out below:

Halo 4 – Current State of Weapon Tuning, Primaries Tweaked to Compete with DMR

Developers 343 Industries are making progress as they work through Halo 4‘s weapon re-tuning process, mentioned last week.

As previously stated, 343i are looking to tweak primaries in oder to provide a more balanced Halo 4 sandbox experience. In this week’s Halo bulletin, 343 developer “Bravo” goes through some of the specifics.

Before reading, he mentions that all of these changes are “nowhere near final, adding that the team is “anticipate going through several waves of iteration and even more waves of testing before landing on our final design.”

He writes that these weekly updates are simply meant to inform the fans of what the team is working on so that they might provide feedback throughout the entire process, rather than after the weapon changes are said and done and already implemented in the game.

“As you may have guessed, the first area that we felt the need to tackle was primary weapons, specifically the precision rifles,” he continues.

Bravo detailed a few schools of thought with regards to rifle balance. One suggests that the DMR’s power should be reduced while the other suggests weapons should be tuned up to match its power. “Both things being said, there can be a middle ground.” He says. “Looking at the DMR, we currently feel that the kill time should remain unchanged, as the weapon has become a clear favorite amongst the community due to its reliability and consistency. So tuning the Battle Rifle, LightRifle and Carbine against this weapon presented quite a challenge. Here are the tweaks that have currently been made, and the challenges associated with each.”

Check out what sort of more specific tweaks the team currently has in store for weapons like the Battle Rifle, LightRifle and Carbine.

Battle Rifle

Right now, we feel that the mid-range role of this weapon is undermined by the strength of the DMR. To combat this, we are looking at decreasing the kill time for the Battle Rifle through various tweaks. This means testing a “4-shot BR” (currently, the Battle Rifle takes 5 bursts to kill) with a reduced rate of fire, though these changes are not final.

LightRifle

At this time, we have adjusted the range at which the reticle turns red to match the DMR.

Carbine

The Carbine has been adjusted to take one less shot to kill, bringing it to a 7-shot kill. This change was applied because we felt that players who used this weapon and took the time to become skilled with it were not rewarded due to the weapon’s kill time.

Bravo writes that the above changes, if implemented, would speed up the kill time of these weapons, thus increasing the overal pace of Halo 4’s competitive War Games experience. Also, as a result of these tweaks, the automatic weapons like the “Assault Rifle, Suppressor and Storm Rifle have all received a slight damage buff along with an auto-aim decrease that requires players to be more accurate than they would have previously.”

Vehicle weapon tuning is still on the table as well as the team experiments with bumping up the damage on both the Warthog and the Mantis chain gun

Bravo closes by saying, “This is not the extent of our tuning, and we are actively investigating tweaks to additional weapons, such as an aim-assist decrease on the Beam Rifle.”

What are your thoughts so far on these decisions? Agree? Disagree?

Also, look forward to some Regicide and Grifball playlist updates incoming this Monday.

Has DICE “Got The Balls” To Move Battlefield Away From the Modern Setting? Ex-DICE Producer Asks

With talk of new game engines like Frostbite 3, everyone wants to know what game developers like DICE could accomplish with a popular FPS like Battlefield or where they could take the genre in terms of setting.

Between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1-3, Battlefield 2-3, Battlefield: Bad Company 1-2, Medal of Honor 2010 – Warfighter, FPS fans are probably starting to find the modern war setting a tad stale, a setting that was once again confirmed for the upcoming Battlefield 4.

It works, and it’s a setting that most of us can relate to since we live in it, but that doesn’t mean it stays interesting forever. More recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 took a slight risk by entering the near future setting the year 2025, but it certainly wasn’t anything drastic. It still featured more-or-less modern weaponry that we’ve seen before in some shape or form.

Surveying comments back when DICE first announced Battlefield 4, it’s not too far off to say that some were disappointed they were’t going to be seeing a successor to a game like Battlefield 2142, a title that featured high-tech weaponry and vehicles like mech robots in a future far off from today. To many, 2142 stays in their hearts and minds as one of the more memorable Battlefield titles.

Even ex-DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke, who worked on 2142, is asking if DICE has “got the balls to leave the safe haven of a modern war setting.”

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 3.06.18 PM

He recalls working on the developments of 2142, saying that with the type of technology DICE possesses today, a game like Battlefield 2143 could hit its full potential.

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 4.02.48 PM

More than anything, Gordon’s tweets bring up a solid discussion point: Do shooters today rely too heavily on the modern setting? Do you think Battlefield or Call of Duty could see their next big breakthrough by either returning to the past or exploring the far future? While a setting like World War II has been done and done again, chances are that next-gen game engines could provide a more interesting and revitalized take on the familiar setting.

Perhaps exploring alternate realties all together, much like Bioshock: Infinite did, might prove beneficial for game devs like DICE.

What do you guys think? Also, how “far future” is too far? Would you ever purchase a Battlefield or Call of Duty game that featured laser guns and aliens or took place in space? Let’s hear it in the comments below!

Thanks, Pixel Enemy.

DICE Teases Battlelog 2.0

Yesterday, the development team behind the Battlelog, Battlefield 3‘s social stat-tracking service (soon to power Battlefield 4), highlighted a few incoming improvements that would soon be implemented, like better privacy and the introduction of an Android app.

Naturally, with Battlefield 4 on the horizon, DICE would most likely also be interested in a total visual overhaul of the service in order to keep things fresh and new. Today, the Battlelog team’s official Twitter account teased just that.

Here’s a small peek at the Battelog 2.0.

BIDsrsjCYAAULvy

Obviously, this new version of the Battlelog teased above is powering Battlefield 3, which leads us to hope that the latest iteration might deploy sooner rather than later, sometime before the release of Battlefield 4.

What sort of new features would you like to see in the new Battlelog?

Battlefield 4 – Motion Controls “Don’t Make The Game Better,” Says DICE

Though both the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox will be sporting the latest in motion control technology, DICE couldn’t care any less.

Okay. That’s maybe not the way they put it, but they certainly aren’t interested in these sort of “gimmicks” when it comes to Battlefield 4.

“We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better,” DICE executive producer Patrick Bach recently told Edge-Online. “There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.”

The PlayStation 4 will leverage the use of DualShock 4 and PS Eye, allowing gamers to affect movement in-game through movement of their controller. Likewise, Microsoft is said to ship the next-generation Xbox with an improved version of their Kinect camera, building upon the idea of full-body motion control.

“We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player,” says Bach. “Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it. To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”

What do you guys think? Does motion control add to or take away from a first-person shooter like Battlefield?

Black Ops 2 Double Weapon XP Announced For This Weekend

Treyarch has announced even more XP making its way to Black Ops 2, this time for your guns.

According to an in-game announcement, you’ll be able to rank up your weapons twice as fast with Double Weapon XP this coming weekend.

Step up your game with Double Weapon XP this weekend, starting on Friday, April 19 (10am/PST) and running through to the morning of Monday, April 22 (10am/PST).

Today marked the end of an extended period of regular Double XP, due to a mishap with Xbox Live’s online services earlier, but it looks like you won’t have to wait long for yet another reason to sink some serious hours into Black Ops 2’s multiplayer.

Remember, Black Ops 2 Uprising is now available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Check out some gameplay we captured while visiting Treyarch studios right here!

“Titan” Trademarked by Respawn Entertainment

Respawn Entertainment, lead by former co-Infinity Ward head and co-creator of the Modern Warfare series, Vince Zampella, has been up to something.

Recent reports indicate that the studio, now under EA publishing, has filed for the trademark “Titan,” registered on April 11.

Screen Shot 2013-04-16 at 11.55.19 AM

The trademark, which can be viewed in full here, pertains to “video and computer game programs; video game discs; video game software,” clearly acquired by “Respawn Entertainment.”

“Titan” could, obviously, mean a number of things – from the game’s working title to its actual retail title, or anything in between. What do you guys think?

Last we heard of Respawn Entertainment, we found out they would be headed to E3 2013 and “have no intention of showing up empty handed.” So, expect to hear more closer to this June. We also sadly learned that Co-Founder Jason West left the company last March.
