Black Ops 2 Vengeance DLC Arrives on PlayStation 3 and PC August 1

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s latest map pack is making its way to the PlayStation 3 and PC on the very first day of August for $14.99.

Xbox 360 owners got a taste of “Vengeance” earlier this month with four brand new maps, a new zombies experience, and a new take on a classic Zombies weapon.

Treyarch introduced Detour, Cove, Rush, and Uplink, a re-imagining of the fan-favorite Black Ops map, Summit, along with an Old West-themed Zombies map, Buried. They also upgraded everyone’s favorite zombie-slaying weapon with style, introducing the Ray Gun Mark II.

Detour is great for objective-based game modes, especially Capture-the-Flag, while Cove offers longer range gunplay with various angles of attack and Rush provides that classic, fast-paced, close-quarters Call of Duty gameplay. Uplink is one of the cooler re-imaginings to date, based on one of the best Black Ops maps.

If you’re anxious to check Black Ops 2: Vengeance out before it drops this August 1, be sure to catch some gameplay of each of the new multiplayer maps, including new Zombies gameplay, in our Vengeance DLC preview.

Battlefield 4 – DICE On Xbox One Vs. PlayStation 4: ‘More Power Is Better For The Game We Build’

With reports of Sony’s PlayStation 4 out-playing Microsoft’s Xbox One in terms of power, gamers ask the question: ‘will muilti-platform games play better on PS4 than the X1?’

According to DICE general manager and vice president Karl-Magnus Troedsson, who is currently heading up Battlefield 4, “more is always better.”

Game Informer recently asked Troedsson in an interview, “People have made a lot about the difference between the PlayStation 4 having 8GB of GDDR5 RAM versus the 5GB of DDR3 RAM allotted toward the gaming partition on the Xbox One.  Do you see that as an advantage for the PlayStation 4, or is that overblown?”

Troedsson answered, “More memory or more CPU or GPU power – whatever kind of power we get out of a machine – more is always better, especially for the kind of games that we build.”

He added that though next-generation hardware is impressive, it won’t be long until they become dated.

“We have a long heritage of PC, and PC is a platform that has been scaled very well over the years. Naturally we’re very excited now seeing consoles that actually close in on what the PCs of today can do – even though it won’t take long before the PCs can do even more.”

Troedsson also spoke more on the idea of integrating peripheral devices like the Kinect, revealing that Battlefield 4 on the Xbox One will have some sort of motion control capability that he ensures will make sense.

As with Battlefield 3, it looks like PC is the way to go when Battlefield 4 drops this October 29, at least visually,  but we’ll have to wait and see which becomes the preferred next-gen console to run this particular shooter later this year.

DICE Says There Are Ways Motion Control Will Make Sense in Battlefield 4

While DICE general manager and vice president Karl-Magnus Troedsson admits that motion controls don’t make sense for a shooter like Battlefield 4, saying earlier that “it doesn’t make the game better,” that’s not to say DICE’s next big shooter won’t have some sort of Kinect or motion control functionality.

“We have a pretty pragmatic view [on the new Kinect],” DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson recently told Game Informer. However, he added, “Instead of just trying to tick all the boxes of features you can do with new hardware, we look at what actually adds value [for] our players.”

“When you look at the kind of games that we build – or Battlefield at least – it is a first-person shooter that is very much about skill. Input is really important. You need to have very precise control over what’s going on, and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense – not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You’d need to build a different kind of shooter.”

Most everyone would agree that when it comes to shooters, a mouse and keyboard or controller is the way go, but DICE hasn’t neglected motion controls entirely.

“But there are other places where it will make sense, and we are going to use it for other things in the game, but we haven’t announced exactly what,” Troedsson said.

While we anxiously await to hear more about motion or voice controls in Battlefield 4, we want to ask you, in what way(s) do you think it could be best implemented? There are a ton of possibilities, so let’s hear your best ideas in the comments below.

Be sure to hit up the related poll below as well!

Borderlands 2 – Special Shift Codes Inbound, Nets You Special Class Mods And Orange Tier Loot

Being handed out like candy, it seems like these Borderlands 2 Shift codes, which unlock golden keys for use on the golden chest in Sanctuary, netting you loot of purple tier or higher for your characters current level, are becomming a common thing now-a-days.

But for this week only, the folks over at Gearbox have something special in store for all Borderlands 2 players. All week long, they are giving out special Shift codes that, once redeemed, add one of the newest class mods that are featured on the latest campaign add-on, Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep.

You can catch the first batch of Shift codes below that unlock a special class mod for the Commando character class:

Bunkers And Badasses Shift Codes

  • PC/MAC : 5JKBJ-K9WHW-WBZTJ-T3TTB-TW9HR
  • Xbox 360 : CB5BT-T3JJ3-S6HTX-C63TJ-CSKSK
  • PlayStation 3 : WT5TJ-6ZJ9J-SH5WJ-SBWTT-693S6

Note: In order to redeem these on Xbox Live, you must have a Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Additionally, you can expect a new Bunkers And Badasses Shift Code to be released each day until July 14. Be sure to keep up to date with all the codes by following this link.

That’s not all, as the folks over at DLCcentral have also got some special Shift codes that, once redeemed, unlock a purple tier Torgue shotgun, an orange tier Transformer shield, which upon taking shock damage refills your shield and has a chance to absorb bullets into ammo, and another orange tier loot, the  Leech transfusion grenade, which instantly gives  you back health depending on the damage it inflicts.

DLC Central Shift Codes

  • XBOX 360: WTCJJ-TCZ5J-Z69J6-CRJT3-STTCT
  • PlayStation3: WTWBB-9RZ95-ZZWWT-SJ533-S9WF5

Unfortunately, as you can tell, there’s no Shift code for the PC/MAC version that grants the items stated above. Although, for console owners, there’s no immediate rush to redeem these codes as they are set to expire on September 7.

Team Fortress 2 – Next Update To Tweak Banners, Nerf Dead Ringer, And Split Item Sets

Last week, we covered the initial details of the latest update for the free-to-play shooter, Team Fortress 2, which you can read all about right here.

This week, the folks over at Valve gave more details regarding what changes TF2 players can expect once the upcoming update goes live.

First and foremost, some of the most important changes are the numerous weapons stats tweaks.

For example, the Soldier’s class’ ‘The Battalion backup’, which Valve admits is not a very popular item with players who unlocked it only using it less then 15% of the time, would rewarded the Soldier for taking damage. Post-update, it will reward said class for dealing damage instead.

On the opposite end, Valve will be looking to changing a very popular item within the TF2 community: None other than ‘The Dead Ringer’ which has a staggering 80% equip rate. The update will decrease the maximum time that the Spy class can ‘feign’ death according to the amount of damage they take after they fake their demise.

With that out of the way, Valve also mentioned changing item sets which they admit limit player choice due to making players feel “under-powered” if they weren’t wearing a full set and for being a balancing nightmare. Now, players can expect items to feature specific gameplay bonuses to specific items and the introducion of new bonuses to these sets that won’t affect gameplay balances.

At the moment, there’s still no confirmed date as to when this update will roll out, but we will be sure to update you guys.

Are you looking forward to this update? Let us know in the comment section below!

Grand Theft Auto 5 – Rockstar on Improved Weapon Handling and Customization

Rockstar is looking to step up their gun game with Grand Theft Auto 5, which recently got a stunning new gameplay trailer.

“A massive amount of work went into overhauling animation systems, targeting, and camerawork to really open up new opportunities for the player in the kind of freeform, open-world action shootouts that are the heart of Grand Theft Auto,” associate technical director and combat designer Phil Hooker recently told GameInformer.

“We wanted shooting to feel more precise and satisfying while supporting multiple styles of play.” He added. “The controls have been expanded, so now in addition to traditional left trigger ‘down the sights’ aiming, you can also both run and shoot comfortably while only using the right trigger. This retains the benefits of seeing your character from the third-person view while keeping the feel much closer to the range of motion and shooting precision you have in a first-person shooter. It also opens up opportunities for players to develop their skills in both single-player and multiplayer, as the more accurate you are while moving quickly the greater your advantage.”

To enhance plyers’ mobility during gun fights and the general feel of combat, Hooker explained that “If you fire your weapon, or become engaged in a fight, your character’s bearing changes and your default speed switches from a casual walk to a combat jog, giving you improved mobility as well as a greater sense of urgency. If there’s no threat or you haven’t been firing, you’ll revert back to a relaxed state.”

What’s really cool is that “Each character’s personality is also reflected in the way they move and handle weapons, whether it’s Trevor’s aggressiveness, Franklin’s swagger, or Michael’s efficiency,” according to Hooker.

He went on to explain that gunplay in GTA V isn’t heavily influenced by one recent past game in particular (eg. GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, or Max Payne 3), but, instead, incorporates a mixture of all three titles. “The best way to describe the gunplay is that it’s evolved through influences of all three games,” he said. “It’s still GTA-based at its core, but as we’ve collaborated with other studios along the way we’ve tried to bring in all the appropriate parts from the different projects, from the more advanced cover components and targeting of Red Dead Redemption to the more fluid transitions in and out of gun combat from Max Payne 3. The main push for gunplay on GTA V was trying to make everything as dynamic and fluid as possible, from animation to targeting to camera behavior – we’re trying to push every aspect to the next level.”

Hooker then went into details regarding GTA V’s targeting system, mentioning that players will have a choice.

“For GTA V, we’ve split targeting out into three distinct modes: assisted aiming, traditional GTA, and free aim. Assisted aiming gives players a larger targeting area as well as a little more help analyzing targets to try and pick the largest threat. Traditional GTA is the closest to previous GTA’s soft lock option. It shares all the characteristics of assisted aiming, with the additional ability to flick left and right between targets using the right stick.”

“Another new refinement is that every aim mode now has a timer that breaks lock so you have to be more tactical in your approach – you can no longer just rely on holding and shooting until a target is dead.”

Along with mention of other additions to hopefully make free aim as fluid as possible, Hooker stated that “experienced shooter players should feel more comfortable than ever playing the entire game in free aim.”

Hooker listed a few notable improvements to the cover system as well, saying that players will notice a much more seamless transition between driving a car and then using the car as cover, or vice versa.

Lasltly, on the topic of weapon customization, Hooker revealed that “Ammunation makes its return in GTA V, but now you can indeed customize your weapons.”

“The player has access to a wide range of modifications, such as extended clips that allow you to fire more ammo between reloads, grips to improve your accuracy, weapon tints to color your guns, flashlights, scopes, and suppressors. Attachments such as suppressors allow the player to adapt their approach to some missions and take a stealth option. It’s all part of broadening the range of tactical options for the player.”

With all these improvements to the gunplay, it seems like shooter nuts will have a lot to look forward to in GTA V, both in the single player and multiplayer. Anything Phil Hooker mentioned that really piqued your interest? We want to know.

Grand Theft Auto 5 drops September 17 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Thanks, GameInformer.

PlanetSide 2 – Cross Platform Play Between PC And PlayStation 4 Will Not Be Supported, According To Dev

PlanetSide 2 launches on the PlayStation 4 later this year, but those hoping to see Sony Online Entertainment’s free-to-play MMO shooter feature cross platform compatibility between the PC and the console may be in for some disappointment.

News10 recently spoke with Sony Online Entertainment’s Adam Clegg who said “[PS4 players] are going to be on separate servers right now. PC players will still have their servers that we have up and running right now and then we’ll create PlayStation 4 servers for the PlanetSide 2 players.”

“We really want players to have the same experience,” he added. “We don’t want the PS4 players to have something different than the PC players.”

Although, PlanetSide 2 won’t support cross-platform gameplay, it will however feature the same free-to-play format on the PlayStation 4 and will not require a Playstation Plus account to play online.

GTA 5 on PC? New Rockstar Job Opening Wants Programmer to Port “Latest Titles to the PC Platform”

Though developers at Rockstar have stated that they don’t have plans to bring Grand Theft Auto 5 to the PC, a recent job opening might suggest otherwise.

Spotted by the folks over at Rockstarwatch, a recent job listing for Rockstar appeared this week, seeking a graphics programmer:

Rockstar Leeds are currently looking for a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform.  Working together with the other Rockstar studios, you will be responsible for maintaining the studio’s uncompromising quality bar, delivering the highest quality PC experience possible.

At the moment, the only titles the Rockstar team hasn’t made available on the PC platform are Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption. For those GTA fans unaware, Rockstar tends to bring over their latest GTA title to the PC platform six months after it’s released on home consoles.

Grand Theft Auto V has also received it’s first gameplay footage, released earlier today. You can catch our analysis of the four minute video here.

Grand Theft Auto V is slated for a September 17 release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Grand Theft Auto V Gameplay Analysis: Running On The PS3, Return of Stats, Jets, GTA: Online Tease, And More

As promised yesterday – the moment that Grand Theft Auto fans have been waiting for – the folks over at Rockstar have finally released in-game footage of their highly anticipated sandbox shooter, Grand Theft Auto V.

Check out the video below:

[youtube id=”G5wAYSLGhCE” width=”618″ height=”378″]

To start out with this analysis, lets take a quick glance over the gameplay changes.

To start out with what the demo was running out, it appears that the system used was indeed the PlayStation 3, as shown with the following button prompts.

gta 5 4

The camera view and shooting mechanics have been changed from the normal distant view to a closer over-the-shoulder perspective, and more similar to that of Max Payne 3.

mp3_screen_1
Max Payne 3
gta5 1
GTA 5

The mini map is also different from  GTA 4 as this time around it’s square, rather than a circle, and the health/armor system is displayed as a bar.

Players can also expect the same type of stat system, minus some of the annoyances that GTA: San Andreas had.

gta 2

GTA: San Andreas
GTA: San Andreas

Along with this, players will also be able to switch from any character without any loading or major interruptions. Of course, this is geared towards the single-player portion of the game only. Main characters will also be “absent” as shown in the images above.  There’s also a day counter, though we are unsure what this means.

The weapon wheel is introduced, giving players a full arsenal of of weapons to choose from. If you look closely, you can also see that we can carry more of the same type of weapons. Notice that the pistol slot shows “3/4,” indicating that the player has 3 different pistols.

XTKvuI0

If you watch closely during this segment, every gunshot fired appears on the mini map and has a radius area. This most likely works hand in hand with the stealth system.

The Wanted system also makes an appearance. Star level is displayed in upper right.

gta5 11

Jets and planes also make a gorgeous return.

We can now hunt animals. Aside from this, it appears that there will be dynamic wind in the game as shown by the arrow in the screen below. This will most likely play into weapon/sight sway.

gta 5 animal

Activities were already confirmed. In addition to Yoga, bike racing, tennis, shooting range, golfing, diving, and skydiving have been confirmed via trailer.

Vehicles can be customized from the way they look to how they perform.

gta car

Money most likely will play a huge role this time around, something that GTA IV lacked. Characters can be customized too with new clothing, tattoos, and more.

gta clothing

gta tat

Grand Theft Auto: Online is teased at the end of the trailer.

gta 5 77

Currency is displayed in the upper right. It appears to be a MMO-type of online gameplay with players being able to drive cars, fly jets, pilot helicopters, and participate in missions and activities with other players. We counted about 19 players in this shot.

Grand Theft Auto V is scheduled for a September 17 release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

US Retailer GameStop No Longer Taking Playstation 4 Pre-Orders

It appears the PS4 demand has exceeded the supply as far as retailer GameStop is concerned. Speaking to Game Informer, a spokesperson for GameStop stated:

Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”

Halting of pre-orders extends to GameStop’s website as well with the console listed as sold out. An internal Gamestop memo stated back in June that “the flood gates are open for PS4 reserves”. The memo over-exaggerated a bit stating supply was “unlimited”, but some GameStop locations were rumored to allow upwards of 130 pre-orders. In comparison, pre-order allotments for the Xbox One were said to be approximately 18 units per location.

For those still looking to pre-order, it is still possible to obtain a PS4 on launch. Retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy are offering release date delivery or pickup for console bundles.

Have you pre-ordered a next-gen console yet? If so, which one(s) did you choose? Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks, Game Informer and GameTrailers.

GTA V Official Gameplay Debuting Tomorrow At 10AM EST

After hinting just last week, Rockstar games has announced today that the debut premier of GTA V gameplay will being airing tomorrow at 10 AM Eastern Time.

Rockstar has been releasing trailers throughout the whole year, but none of them were actual in-game gameplay, but rather scripted sequences that we can expect to see in the cut scenes. Besides the press, no one knows what exactly to expect though it may be possible that this gameplay reveal may be also a multiplayer reveal as they also said last week that they would be giving details about Grand Theft Auto Online “soon”.

Stay tune for tomorrow as we’ll have the gameplay up and posted as soon as it releases.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Devs ‘Wrapped Around the Idea of a Second Screen’ in Multiplayer, Boasts Enhanced Audio

Call of Duty: Ghosts will have enhanced audio and will support a second screen, or some sort of app integration in the title’s multiplayer, according to Infinity Ward executive producer, Mark Rubin.

Speaking to PostArcade, Rubin explained that “With the new engine, we can actually model the way the sound travels in the space you’re in. If you’re outside next to a building or inside in a small room or inside in a big room, it’s all detected in real time and changes the sound.”

He added that “The new engine also takes into account materials. If you fire a weapon in a small cement bunker the sound will be very sharp. But if you’re in a metal bunker the sound will be very ting-y. The sound will be altered based on the material it’s bouncing off of.”

This also means new gameplay elements for Ghosts’ multiplayer. “Another big change in audio – and this will have a big impact in multiplayer – has to do with explosions and reactive emitters,” says Rubin. “The world has triggers that will go off based on forces like explosions. If I throw down a grenade and it goes off, the chain link fence behind me might rattle from the concussive force of the grenade. Windows and doors and other objects will make noise after the explosion.”

Rubin also touched on additional peripherals to be utilized in Ghosts, building on Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg’s earlier statements, saying that the studio will take the added functionality “…to a whole new level. A seamless second screen experience will be integral to next gen.”

Rubin added that “It’s a little more of a challenge when it comes to our types of games. Looking away from the screen when the action is intense is obviously a challenge from a game design standpoint. So we have to be careful about that. We have some ideas that I think are going to develop further as we go along in this generation. As with anything with a next-gen launch, you’ll start by dipping your toe in the water in a few places, and then move along from there.”

“We actually have a whole department – a whole studio, basically – wrapped around the idea of second-screen. Our Beachhead group is doing a lot of work there. But a lot of it ties into multiplayer and I can’t talk too much about it now.”

He touched on how touchy the process is, however, adding that though it will be free, it shouldn’t be required.

“It’s free,” he said. “And this is where you have to be smart on your design: You can’t make it required, and it can’t confer a massive advantage. There’s some balancing that needs to be done. You don’t want it so the guy with an iPad has an advantage over other players in multiplayer just because he has the money to buy an iPad.”

“But it will definitely be free, and it will be a companion. It won’t be a revenue generator. It will be used to enhance the experience but not offer any advantages.”

Were you a big user of Call of Duty ELITE’s app during Modern Warfare 3’s reign? What sort of second screen functionality would IW need to integrate in order to make the use of a companion app along side Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer more desirable?

Thanks, CharlieINTEL.

Borderlands 2 Assault On Dragon Keep Not The Last Borderlands 2 DLC, According To Gearbox President

In news that is surely not to surprise, it looks like Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep is not the final campaign DLC, as hinted during it’s ending. President of Gearbox has added more concreate details about another upcoming campaign add-on for Borderlands 2.

Speaking with Nerdist, Randy Pitchford revealed some new details that end speculation on whether or not Assault On Dragon Keep will be the final campaign DLC for Borderlands 2. He said:

We did a season pass for borderlands 2, and the season pass was like hey if you buy the season pass we would be doing four campaign add-ons and you can buy all four of them for the price of three, if you buy upfront. So everyone was under the expectations that those would be the four DLC’s and that’s it.

We are going to do more, we are going to do some other things. I don’t have details exactly of it yet cause were not ready to announce what the other things are, but when the next campaign DLC comes Assault On Dragon Keep not being the end of it. We got more stuff in the hopper that we’re planning  and getting pretty excited about. So if your a Borderlands 2 fan you don’t have to be afraid that that’s the end of it

The above statement is further confirmed when, back in December, it was revealed that Gearbox would consider working on content post-season pass, if the interest was still there.

Additionally, Randy Pitchford went on to say that Gearbox will be working on an original IP for the next-generation consoles, but didn’t go into details.

Are you excited for more Borderlands 2?

Battlefield 4 – DICE Could Possibly Consider Mouse And Keyboard Support on PlayStation 4, Says Dev

With Battlefield 4 making its introduction on to next-generation platforms and bringing with it much-desired features like 64-player matches and commander mode, fans may also be able to look forward to another addition, if developers DICE consider it.

Speaking with Ausgamers on the topic of whether or not DICE considered adding mouse and keyboard functionality to Battlefield 4  on the PlayStation 4, Producer Aleksander Grøndal revealed the following:

We have mouse and keyboard support for the PC obviously, but I can’t speak now specifically for next gen consoles. But if it makes sense in the Battlefield universe, for a Battlefield game, we’ll consider it.

Although the keyboard and mouse setup is widely known as being a much more precise peripheral and is preferred among professional PC gamers everywhere, this could spell trouble for those gaming with Sony’s new DualShock 4 controller. Naturally, they will be at a huge disadvantage against players using the keyboard and mouse setup.

Call of Duty: Ghosts ‘Will Have a Cooperative Mode of Sort,’ No Official Announcement Yet

Falling in line with previous Call of Duty titles from the Infinity Ward team, Call of Duty: Ghosts is on track to include some sort of cooperative mode, along with the single player campaign and, of course, the competitive multiplayer.

Modern Warfare 2 was the first title to introduce Spec Ops, a mission-based mode that allowed players to work together, co-operatively, to complete objectives. While Modern Warfare 3 included similar content, it also introduced a Survival mode along side it, tasking players with surviving against multiple waves of enemies.

When asked if Call of Duty: Ghosts would include some sort of iteration of Spec Ops, community coordinator for the Infinity Ward team, Candice Capen, answered, “We’ll have a cooperative mode of sort, but we’re not announcing it yet and I’ve no clue when/if we will.”

Any thoughts or ideas? What do you think Infinity Ward has up its sleeve? What sort of cooperative mode would you like to see in Call of Duty: Ghosts?

Thanks, Valter, for the tip.
