More Grand Theft Auto 5 Screenshots – Extra Curricular Activities, Anyone?

Yesterday, we were treated to some gorgeous Grand Theft Auto 5 screenshots, and that was only of some of the transportation that would be available in the game.

To pleasure our eye balls even further, Rockstar has released yet another set of stunning GTAV images. This time, it looks like we are getting a peak at some of the extra-curricular activities that players could possibly be involved in throughout the course of the game.

Hopefully we’ll be teased with even more throughout the week. For now, check out these beauties below.

Free Max Payne 3 Disorganized Crime Pack DLC Coming Next Week

Rockstar has announced that coming next week, August 28th, for all platforms, the free Disorganized Crime Pack for Max Payne 3 will be arriving.

Featuring the Hoboken Rooftops multiplayer map, this map lets you battle it out throughout the remains of Max’s dilapidated Hoboken apartment.

Also included are several new modifiers for Score Attack in the Arcade Mode.

  • Explosive Rounds (bullets detonate on impact)
  • Lone Wolf Al (much more aggressive enemies)
  • Headshots Only Mode (pretty obvious, eh?)

Noir Mode is also in this free bundle, allowing players to play through the game’s single-player in a vintage black and white style of classic film noir like the good old days.

Above are some newly released screens hot off the press directly from Rockstar. Who doesn’t love free stuff? I’m sure gamers all around the world still battling it out on the Max Payne 3 battlefield will be soaking this free DLC pack up.

Any MP1st readers still playing Max Payne 3? Let us know in the comments.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Is a “GO”, PC Patch Adds Weapon Course And Zombie Mod Support

Lock and Load! After months of beta testing, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now officially a “GO” globally on Steam and PS3, tomorrow on Xbox 360.

Starting today, you’ll be able to pick up Counter-Strike go on Steam or the PlayStation Network for $14.99 USD. Xbox 360 players can snag the title on the Xbox Live Market place tomorrow for 1200 Microsoft Points.

CS: GO’s official description reads:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

If you missed the latest real-time cinematic trailer built using Source Filmmaker, be sure to check it out here.

Update

Valve has kindly included a SC: GO info graphic detailing some pretty nifty statistics from the beta (December 1, 2011 to August 15, 2012). Check it out below!

Additionally, Valve has unleashed a brand new update for the PC that will allow for zombie mod support and add a “weapon course” to take you through the basics of weapon handling.

Patch Notes

Gameplay

  • Added the Weapons Course to the game.

UI

  • Voice notification can now show more players talking.
  • Updated the freeze panel to no longer show the heath for your killer in competitive mode.
  • Added an option in the menu to disable the game instructor messages.
  • Update to the player info panel to no longer show achievement alerts.
  • Update to the leaderboard screen to default to “Friends” filter.
  • Added the “Total Games Played” leaderboard category.
  • Updated the Play With Friends screen:
    • Made the chat window bigger so text is no longer cut off.
    • Adjusted the size of dimming when the focus changes between friends list and lobby list. It used to obscure the friends list and a little of the chat. Now it only obscures the friends list.

Bug Fixes

  • Updated the radio command panel so that the radio panel doesn’t end up at the top of the screen during a mode that doesn’t have a money panel.
  • Set Classic Casual deadtalk to 0 to encourage fair play.
  • Fixed the freeze panel dynamic positioning that would allow it to go too high.
  • Fixed a missing text string displayed when player is not connected to Steam in leaderboards.
  • Fixed a bug where the Mag7 could be bought by Ts via console commands.
  • Fixed a bug where adding favorite server was not functional in the Community Server UI.
  • Fixed a bug in the Play With Friends lobby where using left and right on keyboard or gamepad made the screen unresponsive.
  • Fixed a bug in the Play With Friends lobby where typing in the Chat window would cause player names to flicker in the friends list.
  • Fix for voice/chat/radio messages. Better unified the handling of voice and chat messages.
    • Chat messages now correctly use sv_allchat (instead of sv_alltalk), which should be more consistent with other source games.
    • Team-only communications now are not affected by sv_allchat/sv_alltalk, which means that private communications to one’s team stay private, regardless of game mode.
    • Team-only communication is also not overridden by sv_full_alltalk, which allows teams to privately communicate strategy during warmup time and intermission.
    • Radio commands are considered team-only, so these should still be usable for tactics during games with sv_alltalk enabled (e.g. casual).
    • Spectators no longer hear team-only communications, except when sv_spec_hear is mode 2 (hear/see comms of the spectated teams).

Audio

  • Increased the audible range of the c4 plant and disarm sounds.
  • Fixed audio randomly chirping/screeching on certain levels.

Matchmaking

  • Tuned lobby distance computations when performing matchmaking.
  • Exposed a convar (“mm_csgo_community_search_players_min”) for community quick match to look for community servers having at least specified number of human players already playing.

Community

  • Shipped zombie model to support the Zombie Mod

Thanks, PCGamer.

Dust 514 Beta Open To PS+ Today, New Update Adds EVE Online Integration And More

The Dust 514 Beta is gearing up as it is about to open it’s door to many new users.

Today, CCP released a brand new update, which comes packed with the first EVE integration system along with some graphical enhancements and many other new features.

Later on today, when the PlayStation store update has officially gone live, PS+ subscribers will be able to download the Dust 514 closed Beta. Meanwhile, for those who are from the European territories you can expect it to arrive in the EU update tomorrow.

Update: The PlayStation Store has just recently updated.

Contents Of The Latest Patch

As seen on the official Dust 514 website.

The first live DUST 514 / EVE Online integration

Linking the intense front-line combat of DUST 514 with the galactic ship warfare of EVE Online has always been our keystone to building a vibrant community, and now that keystone is coming into place. With the Precursor release, we move DUST 514 from its standalone testing server over to the long-standing EVE Online test server, Singularity (aka “Sisi”). This means DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 and EVE Online on PC/Mac will be officially running on the same server.

When the Precursor Closed Beta build goes live, players on the Sisi server in DUST 514 and EVE Online can chat in real time and send in-game mail between games. We can’t wait to see what happens when these games collide in the same shared universe, and we’ll bring you more info on additional interconnectivity features as we move towards our next releases.

Orbital Strike Framework

The first framework for Orbital Strikes goes live in the Precursor build. These powerful, space-based attacks help link DUST 514 and EVE Online, letting squad leaders call in Orbital Strikes from the War Barge flying overhead when their squad achieves certain conditions in battle.

This is just the first level of Orbital Strike capability. In the near future, players on the ground in DUST 514 will be able to request strikes from ships piloted by EVE Online players. These strikes have the potential to do far more damage than the War Barge, their accuracy and power determined by factors like your DUST 514 Merc’s skills and what turrets the EVE Online pilots have trained and fit to their spaceships.

But Mercs on the ground won’t be helpless. We’ll soon add the Orbital Artillery outpost on the ground, which they can use to attack EVE Online ships in space.

Instant Battle Matchmaking

The Precursor update also implements several matchmaking features. Players will be able to find their friends, form squads and jump quickly into battles together using “Instant Battle.” In addition, the matchmaking system has been implemented to intelligently place solo players and squads into matches based on skill, creating a more inviting shooter experience, especially for new players.

New Environments

We couldn’t put out a major new release without adding tons of new game content. Precursor brings our Galaxy system online, which assembles maps from components based on planetary attributes and what is built on the planet, for tons of potential combinations. Closed Beta users will be able to help us test out a substantial array of new environments to battle in utilizing this new system.

Keyboard and Mouse Implementation

That’s right, with the Precursor release, you can use a USB keyboard and mouse to play DUST 514. We’re looking forward to seeing how this impacts play styles, and will be watching closely to see how keyboard/mouse players match up against Dual Shock and Move gamers. We are also working to add controller-based filters into Instant Battle/Matchmaking for a following update.

Tons of Other Great Stuff (including lots of polish, graphical enhancements, and bug fixes)

Everything mentioned above is just a small subset of what we’re adding to DUST 514 next week. All of these features are just the latest improvements to an awesome massively-multiplayer first-person shooter that will be free to play for every PlayStation 3 owner.

In addition, we’re launching a free companion app on the Vita, DUST 514: Neocom, to augment your gameplay experience and let you customize your fittings, train skills, use the market, browse the starmap, and much more, on the go anytime and anywhere.

New Screenshots of The Updated Build

Dust 514 Neocom App For Vita Detailed

As mentioned above, the PS Vita will be receiving it’s own Dust 514 App called “Neocom”. This app serves as a companion app the the official PS3 version of the game. There won’t be any actual gameplay, but for those who are looking for a “MMO on the Go,” then this free app will be for you. You’ll be able to manage your player outfits, weapons, shopping – pretty much everything that Dust 514 menu’s already allow. You’ll also get to interact with galaxies from EVE Online in real time where you’ll be able to visit hundreds of solar systems and manage resources and surface infrastructures of individual planets. That means you’ll be able to shape the battlefield that PS3 gamers will be playing on.

Lots of exciting new details for Dust 514. As a PS+ member, are you looking forward to the beta?

Command & Conquer Generals 2 To Forgo Single Player at Launch, Will Include E-Sports Features

Command & Conquer Generals 2 will ship without any single player campaign – news that doesn’t bother many of us here at MP1st.com.

Recently, BioWare Victory general manager John Van Caneghem told PCGamer that, instead, “co-operative and competitive” battles would be the main focus of the title when it launches next year. Though the team has yet to make any official announcements, it is a possibility that other game modes, including some sort of single player campaign, could be added at a later date.

“As a live service I think the exciting part is you can try things,” mentioned Van Caneghem. “You can see what the community wants, you can give it a shot, you can put it up for a weekend and see how it goes, develop towards what the fans like.”

He also stated that the studio really wants to take the series “back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great.” That means allowing players to “build a zillion units” and “go out and kill all the bad guys.” However, acknowledging current trends, BioWare Victory does plan to integrate e-sports features on top of the multiplayer deathmatch and co-operative modes.

“We’re really going to run the gambit of what people enjoy in a multiplayer environment,” Van Caneghem said. He added, “I don’t think we’re making a list of the features yet, but I think you can basically make a list of the assumed ones that you’d need to be an e-sports game, and it’s definitely part of the plan.”

Sounds like a plan to us!

BioWare Victory released a brand new trailer for Command & Conquer Generals 2 and announced the free-to-play direction that EA would be taking the series during this year’s Gamescom which you can check out right here.

Are you excited for Command & Conquer Generals 2? Are you upset it will launch without any single player support?

Battlefield 3 Servers Down For “Extensive Maintenance” Morning of August 21

Battlefield 3 servers across the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC will be offline for another bout of maintenance tomorrow, August 21. While this period will last longer than usual, it will be taking place in the wee hours of the morning, hopefully minimizing any interrupted play time.

DICE notes on the official Battlefield 3 Facebook page, “we will be performing extensive maintenance between 7AM-1PM GMT on August 21 (that’s tomorrow 2AM-8AM EST). Battlefield 3 online play will be unavailble during these hours.”

You can check out this handy Time Zone Converter should you require it.

No word if this down time has anything to do with the Battlefield 3 Premium August Bonus Content Drop, but we know you all hope it does! Keep those fingers crossed.

New Grand Theft Auto 5 Screenshots Surface, More Later This Week

Today, Rockstar Games has released a batch of new screenshots for their upcoming, highly anticipated, blockbuster title GTAV.

These screenshots in particular highlight some of the available transport that will be available in the game. Looks like jets will be returning once again!

Click for a larget size. Trust me, you’ll want to.

These screens look absolutely fantastic. No news whether these are taken from the console or the PC version of the title. Rockstar has also stated that there will be more released later this week. One can only hope that this is a sign that they are gearing up for a full media blowout with release date.

What do you think of the screens so far?

It’s Our First Birthday! A ‘Thank You’ From MP1st

Good day MP-heads!

Today is a most excellent day as it is MP1st’s very first birthday.

A brief bit of history: A year ago, my partner, Fahed Jaradat, and myself set out to create a cool, hip and happening place that gamers just like us could gather to keep up on everything multiplayer. That meant providing the latest intel on some of our favorite games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Counter-Strike, Halo and much more. Yes, this means that our coverage is primarily centered around multiplayer first-person shooters, but expanding into other genres has been a goal on the table for quite some time now and is slowly being reached thanks to the help of others, which we will gladly acknowledge below.

What inspired us? Mostly our favorite YouTubers of which there are way too many to name. MP1st was born from countless hours of Skype conversations recalling our favorite videos watched throughout the week. Commonly in discussion was the latest development rumors, DLC news, balance issues, patch notes, tips and tactics, and of course, our own passionate opinions about the games we love so very much (including fierce debates regarding which FPS is king.) Essentially, we had a lot to share and felt that we could provide some valuable insight to the gaming community, insight that we had a hard time finding in some of our own favorite gaming websites.

Frankly, multiplayer in gaming deserves to be covered and deserves to be covered well. We believe this cannot be done properly if one’s focus is spread too thin. The depth found in most multiplayer games today is astonishing, especially when we live in an age where patches, mods, downloadable content and constant post-launch support is the norm. Not only this, but when we’re talking competitive online gaming, the slightest “buff” or “nerf” of that “overpowered” or “weaksauce” assault rifle in Call of Duty or Battlefield can simply not go unaccounted for. You need to know about it in order to stay on top of your game and we want to provide you with that valuable intel.

Upon settling on the name, MP1st, which we think clearly speaks for itself, we were off! The rest, as they say, is history.

Needless to say, it’s been a great year. MP1st has grown at an unexpected and almost uncontrollable rate, but we think we’ve managed to keep things under wraps. Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the help of some amazing people. We’d like to specifically thank Jorik “Niosus” De Waen, who’s managed to keep us online and functioning all this time, through thick and thin, as well as James “Nitrowolf2” Lara and Shawn “Pr0tential” Kegarise who’ve put a huge effort into creating the MP1st forums, along with Niosus, which only went live last May (which we hope you guys are thoroughly enjoying). In fact, if you head over to the MP1st Forums today (and sign up if you haven’t already), you will be awarded with a nifty little birthday treat. Cake might be involved.

Along with all our current staff and moderators whom we’d like to thank below, from the bottom of our regenerating health-bars, we especially want to thank you guys, our readers and fellow gamers who’ve made all of this possible and have made this ride as thrilling as it has been.

Thank you!

Here’s to even more amazing times ahead. Cheers!

Modern Warfare 3 Double Weapon XP Now Live, PS3 Patch 1.19 and PC Patch 1.15 Detailed, Terminal

Following up from our previous article about Terminal available to download for PS3 ELITE premium subscribers and a scheduled Double Weapons XP – which you can read here – a second Title Update for PS3 has just went live.

PC players have also received their patch today, which includes the fan favourite Modern Warfare 2 map, Terminal, plus weapon buffs. PS3 non-ELITE premium subscribers can now download the Modern Warfare 2 classic map from the store as well.

PS3 players will be prompted to download another Title Update – patch 1.19 – when you go to play the game, which includes further additions, bug fixes and changes to the matchmaking system. The update also inputs logic to make Terminal count as an original map. A full list of changes are as follows:

As seen on the official Modern Warfare 3 forums.

PS3 Title Update 19

  • Update to Face Off logic
  • Improvements to lag compensation
  • Support for Elite drops 19-24
  • Fix for XM25 challenges not registering
  • Added logic to make Terminal count as an original map
  • Fix for players changing a UAV into a second Ballistic Vest pointstreak
  • Fixed Elite Web issue when sending custom classes with attachment proficiency on second primary

Thanks to Landis Golden.

I asked Infinity Ward’s Candice Capen why this update has been released so quickly, after 1.18 was only just released a few days ago. She replied “we were able to rush release [the Title Update for PS3].”

PC gamers can now download Patch 1.15, which also features many changes including a VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) fix and all additions that the console players have had in previous hot fixes and title updates. Details below:

PC Patch 1.15

  • Valve Anti-Cheat fix to prevent VAC banned players from accessing MW3 MP servers
  • Support for Terminal to autodownload as part of the patch
  • Update to Face Off spawn logic
  • Weapon balance changes for Assault Rifles & SMGs
  • Adding all previous hot fixes

Terminal is now globally available to all players. The nostalgic map can be downloaded via the Playstation Store now – which ELITE subscribers got access to yesterday (including their August Content Drops), and will auto-download for Steam players. Xbox 360 players have had the map exclusively since last month. The classic MW2 map has been weighted accordingly on matchmaking – you will see Terminal appear more often compared to other maps.

To celebrate the release of Terminal for everyone, Infinity Ward has turned on Double Weapon XP across all platforms. The event is scheduled to last through the weekend and into next week – as Candice Capen exclaims “enjoy your #MW3 gold week.”

What weapons will you be painting gold this week? Terminal is a fan favourite for many, but what map would you have picked instead? Share your opinions and comments below!

Multiplayer Games You Might Have Missed, Week 2 – Slender

This is a weekly article I do about multiplayer games quietly making a splash. In case you missed it, check out last week’s game, Blacklight: Retribution.

[youtube id=”WOXCdSMaNeE” width=”600″ height=”350″]

While you might be wondering what would compel me to classify Slender as a multiplayer, I can assure you, it is.

For those of you unfamiliar with Slender, it’s basically the Blair Witch Project simplified and made into a PC (and Mac) game.  Armed with only a flashlight, which dies if you leave it on for too long, your goal is to collect 8 pages scattered throughout a wooded area referencing the mysterious Slender Man.  Needless to say, Slender Man isn’t a happy camper.  Getting caught by him results in the game ending.  Collect all 8 pages and you pass out, which is another way of saying “win.”

But considering Slender as no online or MP functionality built into it, why am I talking about it?  Well, when was the last time you went to see a scary movie by yourself?  Part of what makes horror movies so popular is that people rarely go alone.  Horror is best enjoyed together, and the same is true for Slender.  While there might be no blood or gore, Slender will scare the crap out of you at least once per sitting.  Throw in some friends watching you play and you’ve got the ultimate party game.  Just don’t forget to leave the nightlight on.

While this might take a leap of faith to believe, gaming with friends that are actually in the same room as you is one of the great lost pastimes of gaming.  It used to be that gaming was something friends did together (IRL) on the weekends or after school.  I know getting your friends over to play a few video games might seem like a daunting task, but in Slender’s case, it’s well worth the effort.

Slender is available for free here.

Help support independant gaming by downloading it and giving it a try.  Best of luck!

Played Slender?  Leave your thoughts in the comments!  Also, feel free to suggest games for  future “You Might Have Missed” articles in the comments as well.

Thank you for reading.
