Battlefield 3 – PS3 VOIP Issues, Private Servers on Consoles, and FXAA Use “Under Discussion”

Daniel Matros and Tomas Danko of the DICE team provide updates regarding PS3 VOIP issues, GUI and squad tweaks, private servers on console and FXAA use.

The VOIP issue has obviously been a huge gripe that many fans have with the PS3 version of Battlefield 3. It has hindered the experience for many by not allowing them to effectively communicate with teammates. While we’ve yet to hear any official word of a fix for the matter, Danko assures us that “there are colleagues working on fixing the voip on PS3 right now, it’s high priority.” This is most likely as close as we’ll get to an official update at the moment, so we’ll have to make due. Danko was also recently asked if the graphical user interface and squad management will be seeing any improvements in the near future and if the number of squads on PC would ever be increased. Danko replied, “lots of GUI updates on the way, but I don’t know if we will ever increase squad count.”

Also in discussion is private servers for consoles. It looks like we will be seeing an official statement from DICE sometime soon, hopefully. Matros comments: “It’s been an ongoing discussion. We will announce decision later down the road.” Many PC fans have been asking if the FXAA post-process injector can be used freely without getting banned from playing Battlefield 3 online. Matros replied that “it’s under discussion right now.” Stay tuned to MP1st for an official response once it becomes available.

With all these issues and concerns “under discussions,” make sure to follow MP1st on Twitter and Facebook for official updates.

Modern Warfare 3 Patch 1.07 Now Live on PS3 and 360

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 receives its seventh title update.

When you get into the multiplayer portion of Modern Warfare 3, you should be treated to a patch that will set you back only 4 MB in memory on the 360, 23 MB for the PS3. This update has mainly fixed the lag compensation issue. Also, the update has given more power to Infinity Ward to be able to hotfix. Today’s patch should have fixed the following:

  • Improvement to address “Host Disadvantage” / “Lag Compensation” that caused hosts with good connections to be hindered.
  • Plus ability to hot fix additional tweaks based on user feedback to this change.

The new playlist is still not live, but it should be going live at some point today.

Be sure to read more on what’s in the works for future updates.

BF3 – More IRNV Tweaks, Upcoming Fixes for SOFLAM, Ribbons, and Scoring

Alan Kertz and Fredrik Thylander, Senior Designers at DICE, reveal what changes will soon be making its way to Battlefield 3.

Many users have noticed that, currently, the SOFLAM rewards points for laser designation, but not for destroys or kills, which was originally promised before the release of Battlefield 3. Thylander clarified by mentioning “soflam users get points for guided damage done to the vehicle they soflam’ed. Bugged out on destroy though. Fixing it.” There are some other scoring adjustments that Thylander plans on making in the near future and that we can hopefully expect to see in the next patch. “I plan to make adjustments to scoring, helicopter driver assists and soflam laser painting among them.” On top of this, many of you may have noticed certain ribbons are quite difficult to earn, compared to others. Thylander states that he will “change both suppress and mcom ribbons when [he gets] a chance.”

Meanwhile, Kertz has been looking into feedback from the community regarding the recently tweaked IRNV scope. Many are still dissatisfied with how it’s been “patched.” Thankfully, Kertz mentioned that he will likely make “some tweaks to make it more consistent from environment to environment.” Among other things, he’s also considering adding a burst fire mode to the HK53 for authenticity reasons: “it shall be made so.” When asked if it was intentional that enemies can now see mines and claymores after the latest patch, Kertz responded, “we added mine spotting and it seems to have some bugs.” This will most likely be looked into for a future patch. Lastly, he added a bit of information that some players may not have been aware of since it was left out of the latest patch notes. He was asked if it was also intentional that a player can no longer spawn on the recon who planted a radio beacon. Kertz answered, “yes.”

Are you happy with the changes in the latest patches? What else would you like to see fixed/tweaked? Let us know in the comments below!

Check out some other tweaks that may make it into the next Battlefield 3 patch.

Modern Warfare 3 Getting New Game Modes This Weekend

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist, has announced that new game modes will be making their way to Modern Warfare 3.

In Modern Warfare 3, players are able to create custom game modes via private matches to play with friends. However, these “custom games” aren’t accessible through ranked public matchmaking. The team behind MW3 has noticed a few user created modes that are worthy to step it up to the big leagues as stated by Robert Bowling during G4’s X-Play. Bowling  tweeted that he’s “got some surprises for” the community this weekend in regards to ” new game modes for Modern Warfare 3″. He promised that we will learn more on what user created modes will make it to Modern Warfare 3 tomorrow. There is still no word on whether the “Hardcore Ricochet” will also be introduced this weekend.

In other MW3 news, Modern Warfare 3 patch 1.07 has been confirmed and should available this week.

Modern Warfare 3 Patch 1.07 Confirmed and Detailed

Robert Bowling shed some light on Modern Warfare 3’s seventh title update.

Yesterday, we reported on what Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games are working on in terms of patches and hotfixes. One of the first issues that will be soon fixed is the “lag compensation” problem. (Read more about lag compensation.) Bowling has revealed that Title Update 7, Patch 1.07, is “solely focused on addressing host disadvantage ‘lag compensation’.” He went on to explain that this patch will “make gameplay better” for players with stronger connections. When we asked Bowling what platforms will receive this patch, he assured us “all updates are for all platforms (unless it’s a platform specific issue).” For example, PS3 owners will receive a console specific patch in January. Patch 1.07 should be available to download “some time this week.”  Bowling stated that the update is “done and submitted”, but it “depends on [the] certification process” on when it goes live.

BF3 – Comrose May Make it to Consoles Yet, G3A3 Fixed, and More on PC VOIP

Members of DICE speak of the possibility of Comrose making it to consoles, issues with the G3A3, and more on PC VOIP.

First, Community Manager, Daniel Matros, clears up some matters regarding in-game VOIP on PC. It’s been mentioned before but he once again reassures us that DICE is taking it into account. To clarify, Matros revealed that “there are no technical or business related issues stopping us from implementing in-game VOIP on PC. We are not promising anything, but it is something we are investigating at the moment.” What exactly is stopping them is still unclear, but we hope to hear further details in the future.

Senior Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz talks about weapons in his recent dialogue with Battlefield fans. Some fans have noticed that the G3A3’s rifle scope is misaligned and will not shoot directly where the crosshairs meet. However, he mentions that he’s “now fixed it. It seems our zero got reset a few times.” A few days ago, he talke about giving the bolt-action rifles the ability to one-hit-kill an enemy in the chest at close range. If you haven’t checked out the second part of his future updates for Battlefield 3, make sure to give that a read.

In cased you missed it, we reported earlier that the PC version of Battlefield 3 will be getting a brand new version of the comrose. In fact, Tomas Danko, VO Producer at DICE, dubs it the “Comrose 2.0.” He was recently asked if the comrose would ever make its way to consoles. He replied, “it’s a matter of finding an unused button on the controller…” If this can be figured out, it may very well be likely that the comrose will make its way to consoles. When it comes to commands, some players have been noticing that their commands go unheard if they are too far away from teammates when asking for ammo or health. Thankfully, Danko mentioned that “a future update will relay it over radio if you’re farther away, so you should hear it hopefully.” Lastly, for those confused with what type of audio setting should be used while wearing a 5.1 headset, Danko clarified that players should use “Headphone for stereo cans, HiFi for 5.1 headphones. Not Wartapes,” which has sometimes been the misconception.

New Modern Warfare 3 Update Details Announced

Update: Modern Warfare 3 PS3 Specific Patch and Hotfix Incoming

New details on incoming patches and hotfixes for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

In addition to yesterday’s big hot fix, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have revealed what issues they are currently ironing out. The biggest standout is, as usual, the lag compensation. Robert Bowling explained that they are “finalizing the last set of MW3 updates before the Holiday break. We plan to get out a Lag Compensation update & introduce Hardcore Ricochet.”

In addition the Hardcore Ricochet, here are the other issues currently in discussion; however, it’s unclear whether all of these will make it in the “update before the Holiday break”.

  • Updates to the Spawn system.
  • Further “lag compensation” or “host advantage / disadvantage” updates plus ability for on-going hot fixes based on feedback.
  • Default 0:30 Round Start timer for System Link only, while looking into adjustable timer for System Link games for Competitive Play.
  • Options to allow System Link players to ‘unlock all’ for competitive play in System Link only.

Player Banned for 5000 Days from Modern Warfare 3

Update 2: Bowling explains further: Modern Warfare 3: 5000-Day Bans Explained by Infinity Ward

Update 1: Robert Bowling explained that a 5000 day ban is effectively a permaban.

Story:

When the team behind Modern Warfare 3 talked up the new banning system, they meant business.

One player, who shall remain anonymous, has been banned for 5000 days. That’s about 14 years without being able to access the Modern Warfare 3 servers. As you can see below, he has served the first two days of his sentence.

The gist of this story is to never cheat, boost, or look at Robert Bowling the wrong way.

Funny Fact: The same situation we can also see with Gamstop customer who self-excluded himself for 5 years but joined Gamstop-free casino Ridika in several days and started gambling again.

Modern Warfare 3 – World’s First Knife Only M.O.A.B.

Getting a M.O.A.B. in Modern Warfare 3 is not an easy task with one’s gun. Let alone achieving a 24 point streak with your knives only (regular knife and the throwing one). YouTuber, NinjaKnifes, has achieved this feat. He claims that this is the only legit knife M.O.A.B to date. The gameplay starts to get a bit “campy” towards the end, but this doesn’t discount the player’s achievement. During the commentated video below, NinjaKnifes, refers to the unedited version, which you can click here to watch. Now, I’m anxiety awaiting knifing YouTube legend “ONLYUSEmeBLADE” to also get a M.O.A.B.
