Report: Future Games Show Used Fake Accounts in Diablo 4 Fan Q&A

Given the hype for Blizzard Entertainment’s upcoming Diablo 4, fans have been eager to ask the developers questions about the game and what it is bringing to the table. Accordingly, GamesRadar’s Future Games Show team recently uploaded a fan Q&A video featuring the Diablo 4 developers in the buildup to the event on June 10. The questions asked in the video were seen by much of the community as exceptionally generic, and upon further inspection, it appears that the Future Games Show team and Blizzard Entertainment apparently used fake Twitter and Reddit accounts to ask what were perceived as “safe” pre-approved questions.

On May 25, the Future Games Show YouTube channel uploaded a video titled “Diablo IV devs answer YOUR questions,” in which Associate Game Director Joseph Piepiora and Art Director John Mueller answered over 12 minutes’ worth of what were presumed to be fan questions. However, many of the questions were centered around the “importance” of including basic features and content or otherwise unimportant information.

On May 27, indie game developer @pixelsbyphil posted a series of tweets in which he checked the visible handles in the Q&A video against their corresponding questions, and found that many of the accounts responsible for the more generic questions did not exist before the video’s release or had been inactive for years:

Given this information, it would be reasonable to assume that the video was a PR promotion for Diablo 4 coordinated between the Future Games Show team and Blizzard Entertainment, and did not contain any actual fan questions. The Future Games Show team has now responded to the allegations, and admits that the video used questions from both fans and the Future Games Show editorial team, and that the “fake accounts” were randomized handles that are unrelated to the actual accounts under those names:

We messed up.

This video was originally titled ‘Diablo IV devs answer YOUR questions’. The intent of the video was for Diablo IV developers to react to and answer questions from the community. However, the questions we asked the developers were a mix of questions sourced from the Diablo 4 fanbase and from members of the FGS editorial team. Some of the community users (and our team members) that submitted these questions requested to be made anonymous and so had their usernames – and the platforms they were submitted on – changed for the purposes of this video.

The new user names were randomly generated, but on further investigation some of these relate to real accounts (albeit inactive accounts with very few posts or followers) that had nothing to do with the creation of this video. This was not made clear in the video and we apologise for any confusion this has caused. Activision Blizzard and the Diablo 4 developers did NOT pre-approve these questions and were only made aware of them during the interview itself. We did not make this distinction between community-led and FGS-led editorial team questions clear, so have updated the video’s headline and thumbnail for transparency.

Thanks for your feedback. We will do better.

FGS Team

The Future Games Show team has now unlisted the Diablo 4 Q&A video owing to the negative reception, but it can still be accessed here, along with the above response in the pinned comment below the video.

Our review of Diablo 4 is hitting the site very soon, so stay tuned.

Silent Hill Ascension Trailer Creeps Out, “Actions of Millions” Will Determine Outcome

Announced in October of last year, Konami and Genvid’s interactive series Silent Hill Ascension got a new trailer today, along with our first real info on the upcoming project.

Here are some of the official details revealed by Genvid:

  • Multiple main characters
  • Actions of millions will determine outcome
  • Even the project’s creators do not know how Ascension will end
  • Characters’ fates are in audience’s hands
  • Gamers have chance to “shape the canon of Silent Hill forever”

Silent Hill Ascension will go live sometime this 2023, and as one might suspect, it doesn’t seem to be aimed at any console. Once more info is known, we’ll let our readers know.

The official patch notes aren’t out yet, but here are the confirmed list of new stuff incoming this season.

New Operator: Fenrir (Gameplay and overview of the new operator here)

Consulate Map Rework – The map rework for Consulate completely rebuilds the experience for players, transforming all floors and sites to make it more balanced, complex, and rewarding to play. The changes to Attacker spawns aim to reduce frustration and increase safety, so there are less vulnerable locations outdoors and Attackers can more easily make it from the spawn location to the building. The reworked Consulate map brings variety with each match, inspiring players to develop new tactics to master their approach.

Check out gameplay we captured straight from the preview event featuring the Consulate map rework:

Shooting Range Improvements – Aiming Lane being introduced in Y8S2. This new lane allows you to master any weapon with customized training including several target types, movement speeds, distances and more. Another thing incoming in the title update is a breakable wall that lets players test the destruction damage of different weapons.

New Permanent Playlist – In Y8S2, a new permanent playlist will let players hop into Arcade modes for quick matches. Returning game modes include: Headshots Only, Snipers Only, Golden Gun and Deathmatch. Players can also expect a new game Free for All game mode to be added as well.

New Gadget “Observation Blocker” – Dropping in Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor is the Observation Blocker. This intel denial gadget projects a digital barrier blocking the line of sight of opponent drones and Observation Tools so they cannot spot Operators and devices on the other side. This barrier is only visible from a drone or an Observation Tool and will not be visible to Operators.

Balancing Updates – This season introduces the first part of balancing for Grim and aims to improve his gadget, the Kawan Hive Launcher: letting his Hives release their swarm charge faster and increasing the chance of it catching a nearby Defender. The swarms are now bigger and stay for a longer duration, but they track a Defender for less time after they step out of the swarm

New Controller Layouts – In Y8S2, new controller layouts with alternate inputs for shooting, crouching, and leaning will be added to help make the game more accessible to everyone.

Free Camera in Match Replay – This will allow players to use a free camera while watching replays, and will let players view recorded view and create content from any angle.

Once the complete patch notes are out, we’ll update the article to reflect it.

Update: We’ve updated the article to house the complete patch notes.

Street Fighter 6 Review – Knockout Strike

It’s hard to believe Street Fighter V originally released in 2016, but yet here we are seven years later with the release of Street Fighter 6. With an emphasis on urban fisticuffs, could Capcom’s overhaul of their veteran fighting icon possibly pay off with a worthy game? Our Street Fighter 6 review will explain how it does this, and more.

Fantastic Look and Feel

Capcom’s RE Engine is an absolute workhorse. Street Fighter 6 looks so damn good, it makes you appreciate the times we’re living in. Heck, the intro to the game’s World Tour mode mentions something about this, using the fact that we have self-driving cars and are planning to send people to Mars as evidence that we’re living in exciting times. What this had to do with the overall story, I’m not sure. But damn did it look slick as the ideas were presented. Street Fighter 6 maintains a buttery-smooth frame rate, which in a fighter as technical as this is critically important.

Beyond the good looks, Street Fighter 6 also sounds great. All characters are voiced pretty well, though many cutscenes simply include exclamations from the character while you read whatever it is that they’ve “said.” The soundtrack is a mixture of arcade tunes and hip-hop-like songs that fit the urban setting of Metro City. The music does mostly sit in the background, but it helps to set the mood of this overhauled look and feel.

Anyone Can Play

What’s more, Street Fighter 6 is immensely accessible. While the classic control scheme is alive and well for diehard fans to pick up and run with from the outset, the modern layout gives newbies some hope. Combos that usually require several button presses have been distilled into just a few, and there is even the option of holding R2 to continue combos, if your hits land that is. See, while combos are now much easier to perform, the rest of Street Fighter 6’s tactics have not changed. So, control scheme becomes irrelevant if you don’t know when to perform those fancy moves. Indeed, spamming a combo will leave you wide open to all sorts of attacks, so it must be used carefully.

There are three main modes to choose from in Street Fighter 6: World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground. World Tour is where you create a custom avatar and make a name for yourself in Metro City, the name of the open-world like area that you can freely explore. It’s not an overly-large map, and you always have a waypoint ushering you into the next stage of the story. But there are minigames and side activities to partake in, which can earn you various rewards such as money or gear for your character. It kind of feels like a lite version of a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game, and I mean that in the best way. It’s a great distraction while also serving as another way for Street Fighter 6 to be more accessible, as the difficulty slowly ramps up.

Grind the Day Away

One area which also slowly ramps up is your character’s progression. Initial levels can easily be climbed, but before too long level ups become separated by a ton of experience points. This is, of course, par for the course most games with RPG elements, but it is something to be aware of. Better hope you like the shorter format of the fights on offer in this mode, because you’re going to see a lot of them!

Battle Hub was one area of Street Fighter 6 that we unfortunately could not test out due to scheduling issues. As you may have guessed, Battle Hub is the online mode. This is of course the section in any game which can have the most varied performance depending upon your individual setup, so of course your mileage may also vary here. But, I can take this opportunity to inform you that Street Fighter 6 allows you to play all the rest of its modes completely offline. Yes, that’s right, a 2023 fighting game that doesn’t require an internet connection to even move beyond the title screen has arrived!

Classic Offerings

Fighting Ground is where you’ll find all the usual modes you might expect to see in a fighting game: a story mode for each character, a classic arcade mode, a comprehensive training mode, various two-player modes, and even a couple of online modes as well. When you’re in the mood for classic fighting game options, the Fighting Ground is where you want to be.

Roster-wise, Street Fighter 6 has things nailed down pretty well. There is a robust selection of new and returning characters to choose from, each with signature moves that complement the fighter’s style. Custom characters can use move sets from any “Legendary” characters they become students of, which means your repertoire of moves is ever-expanding. Setting up custom combo lists kind of feels like Tony Hawk, of all games, and more choice is rarely a bad thing. It’s tough to say how well-balanced the new characters are, but it’s safe to assume we’ll see some balancing patches drop from Capcom after the game has been out for a bit.

A Great Return to Form

It feels like the stars have aligned in Capcom’s favor this time around. Barring a shaky online performance, it seems the franchise is back on top of the fighting game genre. Every time I picked up a controller to play a few rounds of Street Fighter 6, by the time I was done I had a smile on my face. This is pure, unadulterated fighting, with nothing too complicated yet with the depth the hard-core fans crave. Street Fighter 6 is an easy recommendation for fans of the series as well as fighting game fans in general.

Street Fighter 6 is a contender for fighting game of the year. Between the plethora of game modes to choose from, a story mode that’s actually pretty entertaining, and what should hopefully be a robust online mode, players are spoiled for choice with this well-rounded package. Some of the grinding inherit with leveling up your character might annoy a few people out there, but considering the method to doing so involves simply playing through more excellent fights, you can’t really complain too much.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Fantastic graphics and slick presentation
  • Entertaining story mode
  • Accessible controls which don’t confer much of an advantage
  • You can play completely offline!

Cons:

  • World Tour can be kind of grindy
  • Tough to say how online will perform at launch

Crusader Kings 3 Update 1.9.1 Released Alongside Patch 1.08 This May 30

Paradox Interactive has released Crusader Kings 3 update 1.9.1 on PC today (consoles got update 1.08 a few days ago) that addresses issues with the game. Read on for the CK3 May 30 patch notes.

Crusader Kings 3 Update 1.9.1 Patch Notes | CK3 May 30 Patch Notes:\

Changelog 1.9.1

# Expansion Features

  • Tours and Tournaments: Added a new set of clothing for Western High Nobility (male & female)

# Free Features

  • Added “Points of Interest” to the travel system, which rewards you for going out of your way to visit interesting places around the world. Examples include Special Buildings, Kingdom/Empire Capitals, and Natural Wonders.
  • Added foreboding events, which make characters eligible to receive awful harm or death down the line
  • Added incapability harm events, which risk characters being forcibly made incapable after receiving a suitable foreboding event
  • Added death harm events, which risk characters dying before their time after receiving a suitable foreboding event
  • Added commander harm events, which puts characters commanding armies at risk of dying for reasons outside of combat (especially if they don’t have a suitable commander trait for the terrain they’re in, or are unhealthy – with how much health they need to be “healthy” going up as they age)
  • Added game rule for controlling the frequency of harm events: turn them down, turn them off, turn them up, turn them up but specifically at interesting characters, or turn them up and turn them up extra specifically at interesting characters
  • Added game rule for controlling targeting of harm events: just the AI, just the player, or both
  • Added a decision for Jewish cultural heads to adopt Hebrew as their culture’s language
  • Converted the Kuzarite random event for faith reformation into a full “Break with the Old Ways” decision
  • Jewish faiths now have a Halakha authority main doctrine with 4 types: Rabbinic, Toraic, Kohenimic, Samaritan

# Balance

  • Contemplative Pilgrimages now give 25% bonus Piety instead of 50%
  • Dynamic Gold Values used in Events, Decisions, and other content now have Max Caps based on Era. This means that, for example, the ‘major gold value’ will not cap out at 500 gold in the mid-late game where such a sum of gold could be trivial. This makes rulers with very high incomes both pay and receive relevant sums of gold in the mid-late game. The new values are: 25% less in Tribal era, unchanged in Early Medieval, 50% higher in High Medieval, and 300% in Late Medieval.
  • Grand Wedding Activity Option Prestige Rewards have been reduced by 25%
  • If a vassal acceptance of Tour demands now consider more factors, such as loyal/disloyal traits, opinion, honor, greed, etc.
  • Characters involved in the Iberian Struggle are now allowed to take the Hostility Ending if they completely control Iberia, and their primary title is at least a Kingdom they held for 5 years or more. This can be done regardless of the current phase.
  • Increased tyranny incurred from refusing Pay Homage by 1 to 2, and thus Vassal Opinion lost to 1
  • It’s now valid to petition your liege for a fellow vassals capital title
  • Lowered Reward Prestige from Tours by 50%
  • Taxation Tours now give 50% less Reward Prestige, on top of the new 50% reduction
  • Lowered average Renown gain from Tours
  • Lowered the chance of becoming a drunkard in ep2_wedding.3400 significantly
  • Lowered the frequency of the ‘Feral Child’ event and made the cooldown on getting it again much higher
  • Made certain events where you get to recruit knights appear in more Locales during Tournaments
  • Players with the trusting trait will no longer give out hooks via feast APA’s, as there is no way of avoiding them
  • Rebalanced the modifiers gained in tour_travel.3010 so that you don’t get fooled by the green/red colors
  • Reduced the Vassal opinion gain from Number of Courses in Feasts (roughly -5 on each level)
  • Reduced the frequency of the ‘A-pope-riate Clothing’ Event and made the cooldown longer
  • Slashed Siege % Modifiers from Buildings in half, to reduce the speed of late-game sieges somewhat
  • Slightly reduced the Prestige gain from Dish complexity in Feasts (25%)
  • The Era cost increase for activity costs is now much sharper; unchanged in Tribal & Early Feudal, 50% higher in High Medieval, and 300% higher in Late Medieval
  • The Pilgrimage Piety bonus from the Humble or Ceremonial Options is now 100 instead of 250
  • The Pilgrimage Piety bonus from the Throng Option is now 250 instead of 500
  • There are now five Tournament Prize options; simple, decent, fine, good, and splendid, which control the rarity of artifacts given out by the tournament. The higher settings now cost a significant amount of gold, and Illustrious artifacts can only be gotten if one of the latter two options are chosen.
  • Tour Stop costs are now scaled in cost per era, as all other Activity costs
  • Tribal rulers can no longer go on Taxation Tours (other Tour Types are fine)
  • Windmills, Watermills, and Caravanserai Buildings can now only be constructed in County Capitals to avoid insane Development growth stacking
  • Windmills, Watermills, and Carvanserai can now be built in Counties where any County Province matches their terrain requirements
  • Workshops now give slightly less Siege Speed %
  • You can now petition your liege for claims held by subvassals
  • Reduced the general opinion thresholds required for characters to consider cheating to low positives or early negatives for somewhat honorable characters, added a second tier of honor checks for dishonorable characters so that they’ll consider cheating at close to (but still a little reduced from) the old higher opinion thresholds, drastically lowered the threshold for any character to cheat regardless of honor in the high minuses
  • Reduced the health penalty on the incapable trait so that we can all spend a little longer enjoying the care of our regents :)

# AI

  • The AI will no longer send children to university unless they’re very rich
  • The AI will now very often revoke titles from traitorous vassals with less than 0 opinion of them that they have in their prison, unless they are very compassionate, non-greedy, and honorable
  • Vengeful rulers now more often revoke titles from vassal prisoners

# Interface

  • The Activity Log will now properly display effects and modifiers associated with the entry
  • Activity Intent Target Selection Window will no longer show targets that will not accept the activity invitation, and will warn if they don’t think they will get there in time.

  • Add a setting to turn off realms being named after dynasties.
  • Added more appropriate memory icons for Tournament, Grand Wedding, and Tour memories

  • Fixed tooltip inside the End Regency button
  • Hide and expand button in contestant leader board doesn’t disappear when clicked in a contest anymore.
  • Holdings will no longer claim that there are a Tribal holding when trying to construct a new holding while not having enough Gold (it was only a UI bug)
  • If the activity invite details view tries to open an invalid activity, it will no longer display the estimated travel time as an arbitrarily large number.
  • Improved activity and danger map icon stacking and re-use to prevent flickering
  • Interface improvements to activity log.
  • Layout of acceptance has been updated.
  • Locale Activity Window Conclusion now looks more like the regular activity window conclusion screen.
  • Locale Activity Window now uses the same Activity Log Window as the regular Activity Window
  • Marriage proposal interface has been updated.
  • More traits gained through childhood will now be shown in the education finished event (such as Organizer or Forest Fighter)
  • Moved the Activity Log Window into the top layer
  • Names have been added below small character portraits in activity events.
  • The Appoint Court Position UI now shows personality, so it’s easier to choose for example a loyal Bodyguard
  • The Host in Grand Weddings now use the Admiration default animation, rather than the Idle animation
  • The Locale Window now explicitly sets the background based on locale_background instead of background.
  • The War ended popup will no longer use white text on a light background, and not show a sigil when there’s no signature
  • Tournament invites will now state, in flavorful terms, what kind of prizes you can come to expect if you win

  • Weapon props no longer scale out of the hands of shorter characters. (If a mod adds new weapons for use in existing animations these may now appear outside of the hands. To fix this, make sure the props handle is at origo in your preferred 3D program when exporting. It needs to be “laying down” with the sharp edge pointing down, pointy end towards the Z axis.)

For console gamers, CK3 update 1.08 was released a few days ago and includes bug fixes. However, it did not fix the crashing issues though that remains a priority for the dev team.

Crusader Kings Update 1.08 Patch Notes for Consoles:

Dear Players

We have some important news to share.
We have released a patch that aims to fix many of the smaller issues encountered after the release of the Royal Court, in particular the one that prevented you from Holding the Court.

The issues that are causing game crashes have top priority and while this patch does not resolve them, we’re working to have them fixed as soon as possible – expect more info shortly.

Below is the changelog for the current patch:

  • Fixed an issue where you are unable to “Hold Court” due to hidden events occuring.
  • Fixed an issue in the tutorial where you get stuck on the Court Artifact window.
  • Fixed an issue where incorrect exclamation marks appear on the Court Menu.
  • Fixed an issue where decisions or pop ups can cause the game to lose focus and navigation.
  • Fixed an issue in the UI where the Relatives box is misaligned in the character menu.
  • Fixed the position of the Artifact buttons.
  • Fixed an issue where the progress bar in the Marshal section jumps to the end when it is almost completed.

Once a new patch is out, we’ll let our readers know.

BONUS BALANCE – LIVE MAY 30

Items

  • General
    • Year 10’s Multi-Season structure brings sweeping change at more regular intervals than we have ever seen before, and we are just about to reach our next Season in 10.6.
    • Because so much change is on the horizon, it might feel like a few things are missing from this bonus update. 10.6 will include sweeping item changes to decrease stat values game-wide, with heavier decreases on power, therefore buffing tanks. There will also be many other new gameplay features and balance changes in that update.
    • For 10.5 Bonus we aimed to nerf the top SPL meta gods in meaningful ways in order to encourage some shifts in the meta for the upcoming SPL playoffs.
  • Damage Mitigation Cap and Stacking Rules Change:
We are continuing to work through this concept to make it easier to understand and more favorable for tanks. Our goal here is to future proof this stat, not outright nerf tanks. This update should be a big improvement!
  • Damage Mitigation from Items and from Gods will now stack normally in an additive way
    • Ex: 10% from and item and 35% from a god = 45% total
  • Damage Mitigation Cap and Stacking Rules Reminders:
    • Damage Mitigation from god based sources have no cap, and therefore total Damage Mitigation also has no cap
    • Only Damage Mitigations from items is capped at 25%
    • This includes all effects that come from an item based source, regardless of the duration or conditional nature of the effect. Any number of items working together will not provide more than 25% Damage Mitigation. The only exception is Aegis Amulet and its alternate forms. The following items are affected:
      • Elixir of Defense – 10%
      • Spirit Robe – 15%
      • Oni Hunters garb – 9% Max
      • Berserker’s Shield – 5%
      • Evolved Prophetic cloak – 15% Max
      • Sigil of the Old Guard – 12% Max
      • Lono’s Mask – 15% Max
    • Effects that Increase or Decrease enemy Gods’ damage outputs are not capped
    • Effects that increase or decrease specific damage from specific sources, such as basic attack damage mitigation, are not capped
    • “Increased Damage Taken” is negative Damage Mitigations, and does counteract the effect by subtraction.
      • 25% Damage Mitigation – 10% Increased Damage Taken = 15% Damage Mitigation

LOTUS SICKLE NERF
This change serves as a functional nerf to all healer-mage-supports, who are still performing especially well at the SPL level. Some of the higher performing gods in this category are still receiving direct nerfs in addition to this item nerf.
  • Decreased the Protections gained from the item’s passive from 15 increased Physical and Magical Protection to 10 Physical and Magical Protection

DEATH’S TOLL BUFF
  • Increased healing on the passive from 0.2% of your Maximum Health to 0.3%

LEATHER COWL NERF
Hunters have been building this item 99% of the time, so it is getting a power nerf to help its competitors stand out better. Death’s Toll is also getting a buff at the same time to make it even more appealing.
  • Decreased Physical power from 18 to 15
Gods
CERNUNNOS
Some new Hunters like Hachiman are starting to push Cernunnos down the priority list, but this god has been clearly dominant for many months. Hachiman’s strength is brand new and will likely get some more adjustments, and we don’t want Cern just taking over again at that point. These nerfs should position Cern still toward the top of Hunters, but out of the top 5 for SPL.

HEAVY GLAIVE
  • Decreased Damage from 30% to 25% of his basic attack damage

THE WILD HUNT
  • Decreased Polymorph Duration from 2s to 1.5s
GUAN YU NERF
Solo lane is showing both hyper-aggression and 2nd-Support playstyles. Top gods in both categories will be getting nerfs today. Guan Yu’s healing, protection shred, and CDR for his allies makes him the top support-style Solo Laner, so we are reverting the max stacks of protections he can steal.

TAOLU ASSAULT
  • Decreased max stacks from 4 to 3 on the protection steal
  • Decreased boosted max stacks from 4 on 3 of the protection steal
HEL NERF
The premier mage-healer-support is quite persistent. We had never really seen these gods stick in the support meta until 10.3, and we are glad that its more possible to play them there now. After multiple weeks of this performance though, its clear that Hel is a bit too overtuned. We want to keep her new supportive features strong, but her aggressive utility is now too strong, so Hinder is seeing a noticeable nerf to its intensity of the protection reduction.

HINDER (CLEANSE)
  • Decreased the Protection Reduction Debuff on Hinder from 5/10/15/20/25 +10% to 5/7.5/10/12.5/15 + 5%
HERCULES NERF
Now its time for one of the top aggressive-Solos. Hercules got some new tools in 10.3 that helped the god out, he’s had some nerfs but is still holding up, so we are nerfing his self heal, which has potential to be huge.

MITIGATE WOUNDS
  • Decreased Damage Returned as Healing from 20/28/36/44/52% to 20/26/32/38/44%
MARTICHORAS NERF
Thats a lot of damage! This is the newest addition to the roster of the “Ability Hunter” subclass, and he is putting up numbers. Marty is going have to wait a bit longer before he can root enemies, and his Ultimate’s peak damage is coming down as well.

POISONED BARB
  • Increased Cooldown from 12/11.5/11/10.5/10 seconds to 13/12.5/12/11.5/11s

DEATH FROM ABOVE
  • Decreased Physical Power Scaling per Hit from 20% to 18%
  • (Max 12 ticks)
NOX NERF
This goddess hasn’t had any direct changes in a long time, but that hasn’t stopped her from gradually rising up the SPL Support tier list. This goddess can be frustrating and powerful for casual players as well, so a targeted nerf is warranted. Her Ultimate is actually a powerful debuff, which really helps enable her in the Support Role. This nerf should bring down her value while still allowing her to continue to play Support.

NIGHT TERROR
  • Decreased the Damage Dealt Debuff this ability places on enemies from 40% to 30%
SERQET
The passive crit chance was certainly an impactful buff, and it also led to a lot of community discussion. Serqet seems to clearly perform her best when she has some Crit, so getting some for free helps her out regardless of her build. Serqet has been building bruiser again, which we are excited to see, but we want to be careful of her taking over the entire league. These nerfs are not intended to restrict her flexibility, but about her overall extremely high pick/ban% in SPL. She is getting nerfs to multiple aspects of her kit to bring down her bruiser and burst at similar levels, with an extra focus on making sure she doesnt get free Crits too early in the game, or in too large of quantity. Although we had tried to remove low% and ability based Crit chance in the past, this situation is quite different. The new proposal gates this behind at least level 9, and Crit has had fundamental changes to how much damage it deals and how often crits can trigger at low %.

DEATHBANE
  • Decreased the Protection Reduction Debuff from 10% to 5%

COBRA’S KISS
  •  Decreased Madness duration from 1.4s to 1.2 at all ranks

LAST BREATH
  • Decreased Passive Crit Chance from ranking up this ability from 10/15/20/25/30% to 0/5/10/15/20%
VAMANA NERF
Last but certainly not least, this little guy is a GIANT in the SPL. We are hitting him with 3 different stat based nerfs that will impact him across all parts of his gameplay. Vamana was struggling before 10.3, so the buffs were hefty, and its now clear the nerfs need to be hefty too. If these arent enough we will be prepared to nerf again in 10.6, but we also wanted to be careful about removing the premier aggressive Solo Laner in a meta that has been hostile to Warriors.

SLEEPING GIANT
  • Decreased the amount of Physical Power gained from Physical Protections from 25% to 20%
  • Decreased the amount of Attack Speed gained from Physical Protections from 15% to 10%

COLOSSAL FURY
  • Decreased Physical Power gained from 45/55/65/75/85 to 35/45/55/65/75

  • Data relating to a new multiplayer mode called Challenges has been added.
    • Challenges are limited-time battles with special rules. They can also serve as online-tournament qualifiers.
    • Players can participate solo or form a group with friends and join together.
    • Challenges can be broken up into as many as 3 time slots so that players from various regions can join. Each time slot will be two hours long.
    • As players battle, their Challenge Power will be calculated, which changes based on the player’s wins and losses during the time slot.
    • Challenge Power will be calculated individually for players who participate solo and as a group for players joining as a group.
    • If a group’s members change, the group will be considered new and Challenge Power will be recalculated.
    • Once a certain amount of time has passed since the end of the Challenge, players will be able to check the lobby terminal to see how high their Challenge Power power was overall.
    • Challenge Power distribution is measured in three divisions: solo, duos, and teams.
      • 3-player groups are considered part of the teams division.
  • Made it possible to use the Shell-Out Machine with Shell-Out Tokens.
    • Players who win 5 battles within a Challenge will receive a Shell-Out Token.
    • Players can only earn 1 Shell-Out Token per Challenge.

Changes to Anarchy Battles

  • Made it so that Anarchy Power will be calculated for your team as a whole when participating in Anarchy Battle (Open) with friends.
    • Anarchy Power changes based on wins and losses and is reset when modes or stages switch.
    • If a group’s members change, the group will considered new and Anarchy Power will be recalculated.
    • Once a certain amount of time has passed since the mode or stage switched, players will be able to check the lobby terminal to see how high their Anarchy Power was overall.
    • Anarchy Power distribution is measured in two divisions: duos and teams.
      • 3-player groups are considered part of the teams division.
  • Greatly changed the matchmaking mechanism in Anarchy Battle (Open) to improve matchmaking efficiency for groups of 2 players.
  • Made it possible to select Change Gear, Then Go! after the battle ends in Anarchy Battle (Open).
    • This allows players in a group to change gear while maintaining the group.
  • Made it so that selecting Stop after a battle ends will return players to the awaiting Ready! state instead of forcing them to leave the room when participating in Anarchy Battle (Open) with a group with friends.

This update focuses on adding features for Sizzle Season 2023, which starts in June, as well as adding Challenges and the Anarchy Battle (Open) features. It also adjusts the balance of battles and Salmon Run.

Regarding Challenges, we have implemented the features of League Battles from Splatoon 2 separately. Special events like tournaments and monthly battles are now a part of Challenges, while you’ll be able to test your skills with friends anytime in Anarchy Battle (Open).

In terms of battle adjustments, we’ve added new main weapons, powered up some special weapons, and made adjustments to certain weapons.

In particular, the Sloshing Machine was designed for fighting in places with height differences or lots of obstacles, but it has proven highly effective even in battles in flat places. So, by lengthening the interval between continuous swings, we’ve maintained the characteristic wide attack range while decreasing its ability to defeat opponents.

For the Splatana Stamper, we’ve increased the accuracy of the aim for follow-up attacks with horizontal slashes and lowered the ability to continue fighting solo, all while maintaining the unique nature of fighting by relying on the powerful charged slash (which balances a wide inking range and high attack performance).

Regarding the Splash-o-matic and the Neo Splash-o-matic, we’ve made adjustments to slightly alleviate the situation where they are able to effectively exchange fire with foes at a greater distance than intended.

Our next update is planned for the middle of Sizzle Season 2023 and will primarily focus on balance adjustments.

Bug Fixes

Fixes to Player Controls

  • Fixed an issue that caused the distance a player could move after spawning onto a stage but before landing on the ground to change if they adjusted the direction of the camera.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused an ink-spray animation to play when a player changed into swim form midair.
  • Fixed an issue where it was sometimes difficult to get on top of a wall when swimming up a wall with a grate above it.
  • Fixed an issue that made it possible to use throwing-type special weapons slightly faster than intended by activating the special weapon in the interval between pressing the ZR Button and when the ink actually fired.
  • Fixed an issue that made it difficult to ink the ground when a blaster was fired while directly adjacent to a wall.
  • Fixed an issue where the ink consumed by a horizontal swing of a roller while moving was slightly more than when a horizontal swing was performed while standing still.
  • Fixed an issue where the animation appeared to show ink flying on the player’s screen even if another player was using a roller that was out of ink.
  • Fixed an issue where the intended sound effect would not play on the player’s screen when another player was swinging a brush while out of ink.
  • Fixed an issue where, when a player Super Jumped and opened a brella just before landing, foes who touched that brella and were pushed by it sometimes clipped inside the terrain.
  • Fixed an issue where, when brellas with different durabilities clashed and one of them broke, the one that remained sometimes was not damaged.
  • Fixed an issue where the area for Splat Brellas and Undercover Brellas blocking enemy shots was smaller than it appeared.
  • Fixed an issue where players who fired a Tenta Brella and followed behind it could appear slightly in front of the brella on other players’ screens and be attacked. The issue has been mitigated by increasing the thickness of the area of a fired brella that protects against enemy fire.
  • Fixed an issue where Undercover Brellas did not recharge after defeating an enemy or assisting in defeating an enemy if the player used a special weapon.
  • Fixed an issue where the animation appeared to show ink flying on the player’s screen even if another player was using a splatana that was out of ink.

  • Fixed an issue where another player’s position occasionally appeared to move unnaturally on the player’s screen when that player touched terrain while using a Booyah Bomb and was pushed away.
  • Fixed an issue where a player who used a Booyah Bomb under a tower’s grate would sometimes be pushed away by the tower and clip inside terrain. This was fixed by making it so that the player can pass through the grate.

  • Fixed an issue where players occasionally landed in an unintended spot after Super Jumping to an ally who was submerged in ink on the side of a tower.

  • Fixed an issue in Rainmaker mode where fully charged Rainmaker shots did not explode immediately when they touched a brella after coming in contact with terrain.

  • Fixed an issue in Inkblot Art Academy that sometimes caused sub weapons thrown on certain spots to stop on those spots.

  • Fixed an issue in MakoMart that made some of the terrain look like it could be inked even though it couldn’t.
  • Fixed an issue in Wahoo World that caused some animations to not display when looking through glass.

Fixes to Salmon Run

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented players from being able to throw or deposit eggs in the egg basket if they were carrying a Golden Egg and approached the egg basket while pressing the A Button.
  • Fixed an issue where a Golden Egg would appear to stay in place if a player who was carrying it while using the Inkjet entered swim form and then was splatted by a Salmonid.
  • Fixed an issue where the explosion from a Steelhead or Horrorboros bomb would launch a Drizzler’s projectile back at it.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would be splatted if a Flyfish’s container was broken and the player got close to the broken part.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the number of Power Eggs a player earned from breaking a Flyfish’s container to differ depending on the order in which they were broken.

Fixes to Tableturf Battle

  • Fixed an issue that caused rotated cards to go back to their initial position if the player selected “Cancel” on the “Giving up?” screen to go back to the game.
  • Mitigated an issue that caused a communication error to occur for players doing online battles in the same room for about 2 hours by extending the time it takes for an error to occur to 4 hours.
    • We will consider adding a fix in a future update that prevents a communication error from occurring even if players stay in the same room for an even longer period of time.

Fixes to Splatfests

  • Fixed an issue in the “Splatfest Top 100” part of “Splatfest Stats” in SplatNet 3 where, if 2 or more players were tied to the nearest decimal point, the player who recorded their score first would be displayed beneath any players who recorded their scores later.

CD Projekt Red Reveals Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Has Biggest Dev Team, Followed by Projects Polaris and Sirius

During its Q1 2023 earnings call today, CD Projekt Red revealed that out of all its upcoming projects, Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion has the biggest developer team committed to it, followed by Project Polaris in second place and the recently-rebooted Project Sirius in third place. The Project Polaris team has been steadily growing for the last three quarters, as is also the case for Project Sirius albeit at a much smaller rate.

The developer team working on Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has remained the largest compared to other project teams since the beginning of 2022, while the Cyberpunk 2077 team (including the developers of the next-gen version) has shrunk to the point that GWENT-related projects now occupy greater resources than it. As the future of the Witcher IP and the beginning of a new trilogy of games, Project Polaris has seen its team steadily grow since June 2022 and remains the second-largest CDPR project since then.

Despite being rebooted around March, the Witcher multiplayer game Project Sirius has also had more and more resources dedicated to it since the beginning of 2022. Though CD Projekt Red has revealed no information about the new direction and scope of the project, it is safe to say that the title is alive and moving forward.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to Be Showcased at Summer Game Fest Play Days

CD Projekt Red has revealed during its Q1 2023 earnings call today that Cyberpunk 2077‘s Phantom Liberty expansion will be showcased at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest: Play Days in early June. The developer did not comment on whether or not a release date would be revealed then.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was first announced last September as a next gen-only expansion for the title that features a returning Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, and stars Idris Elba as FIA agent Solomon Reed. The expansion will see V involved in the conflicts of the Pacifica Combat Zone, and take players to a brand-new area in Night City.

The expansion officially only has a 2023 release window, and a specific release date has not been revealed as of yet. CDPR’s Q1 2023 earnings presentation revealed that the expansion will feature at Summer Game Fest’s Play Days. For those unaware, Play Days is a special invite-only preview event for media and influencers that will take place in Los Angeles after the main June 8 showcase. It is pertinent to mention that Phantom Liberty has recently been rumored to have a June 8, 2023 release date, so the presence at Play Days may well be the release announcement.

For now, those interested can check out the latest Phantom Liberty teaser here.

The Witcher Franchise Sales Now at Over 75 Million Copies Sold (Update)

CD Projekt RED has announced today during its quarterly earnings call that The Witcher franchise sales have now reached a staggering 75 million copies sold in total.

The 75+ million copies consist of The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Image

No breakdown has been given, though we suspect The Witcher 3 is the one with the most sales given it was released on more platforms, and is even available on current-gen consoles.

Speaking of which, if you still haven’t played The Witcher 3, go read our review of the current-gen re-release where we state, “the best role-playing games of the last generation and one of my all-time favorite games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update/port makes what many considered to be a perfect game even better. For the new players, they’ll be able to experience what exactly all the talk has been about, only in a vastly superior, definitive version of the game. As for the old players, this update gives you the perfect excuse to invest hundreds, if not thousands, of hours once more.”

Update: In a separate announcement, CDPR also confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 50+ million copies!

Understandable that The Witcher 3 is the one that sold the most given it was released on PlayStation platforms (the first two didn’t see a PlayStation release), and also got a re-release on current-gen (PS5, Xbox Series X|S).
