Squanch Games has officially delayed their upcoming game, High on Life. The game is now delayed to December 13, and the studio promises they are putting the extra few weeks to good use.

As with almost any game delay nowadays, the news was broken via the game’s official Twitter account. The developers promise they’re using the extra time to fix some bugs and make the game the best gaming experience possible.

The game was originally announced to release in just two months on October 25, 2022. The six-week delay seems reasonable, especially since both Gotham Knights and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are releasing within the same week.

Here is a brief description of High Life according to its official website

Fresh out of high school with no job and no ambition, you’ve really got nothing going for you until an alien cartel that wants to get high off humanity invades Earth.

Now, you and a team of charismatic talking guns must answer the hero’s call and become the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter the cosmos has ever seen.

High on Life is coming out on December 13, 2022, to the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Windows Store. The game is also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.

NBA 2K23 MyNBA Eras Announced for PS5 & Xbox Series X|S, Lets Players Change History

Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Jordan’s Chicago Bulls tangled with the Olajuwon-led Houston Rocket back in the ’90s? If so, you won’t need to imagine that soon, as Visual Concepts has announced NBA 2K23 MyNBA Eras, a new feature that’s available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.

NBA 2K23 MyNBA Eras Features:

MyNBA provides players with a time machine that allows them to start a new MyNBA save at a specific point in NBA history called an Era. Players can play through solo, or join up with friends and choose to either relive or rewrite key moments, including:

  • The Magic Vs Bird Era: Starting in 1983, players will find themselves in the heat of the Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird rivalry that took over the league. Fans can rewrite 1980’s NBA history while they compete to draft the likes of Michael Jordan, Akeem Olajuwon, or any of the other NBA legends who were drafted in that legendary decade;
  • The Jordan Era: Beginning in 1991, The Jordan Era puts players right at the beginning of Jordan’s dominant run with the Chicago Bulls. They will battle with Isiah Thomas’ “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons, John Stockton and Karl Malone, Olajuwon’s Houston Rockets, and Patrick Ewing’s New York Knicks for a chance to claim 1990’s basketball supremacy;
  • The Kobe Era: The Kobe Bryant era takes fans back to 2002, where a new generation of talent had emerged in the West, including Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs, Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, and of course, the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant. In addition to competing against the legends of this era, players will also be fighting for draft position in anticipation of the legendary 2003 draft class;
  • The Modern Era: The previous MyNBA experience is now dubbed the Modern Era. Longtime fans of the mode can continue to start with the most up-to-date rosters available and enjoy the traditional MyNBA experience.

Every team has at least one unique court along with unique uniforms fitting their specific era. There’s even a special filter system designed to recreate the TV experience of watching those games as they were originally broadcast.

A lot more details regarding the scenarios, presentation and more can be seen in the latest Courtside Report.

NBA 2K23 is currently scheduled for release on September 9 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.

Sunsoft Is Back After a Long Break and Reveals Three New Games

Sunsoft has just released a new presentation that officially marks their return! Once a prolific video game developer and publisher in the ’90s, the studio continued to operate but at a much smaller scale during the last decade. The new presentation reveals three new games and two soundtracks the studio plans to publish within the next year.

The new three games that are coming soon are Mr.Gimmick! Special edition releasing this winter, Ikki Unite releasing by the end of this year, and Uforia The SAGA releasing in early 2023.

Sunsoft is also releasing new Soundtracks for both Mr. Gimmick and Uforia The SAGA, the latter one titled “Journey to Silius”. Both soundtracks will be released for Vinyl Cassette and within the same time slot as their respective games.

The announcements also reveal the new Sunsoft strategy to capitalize on their existing catalog of classic games and meet the demand for retro gaming. The studio was first founded in the 1970s and was incredibly popular until its parent company, Sun Corporations, went bankrupt in the 1990s.

Sunsoft is also inviting players to participate in the Ikki Unite‘s closed beta, which should give fans a chance to play the game ahead of its full release in a couple of months. Interested players are invited to sign-up on the studio’s website.

Diablo 4 Microtransactions and Seasons Explained by Blizzard

Blizzard Entertainment has just released Diablo IV’s quarterly report, revealing much about the new Diablo 4 seasons system given it is a live-service game, and how it will work, and how it will make the overall Diablo 4 microtransactions system less invasive and detrimental to the overall experience.

Joe Shely, Game Director of Diablo 4, first discusses the new Diablo 4 Seasons system. He reveals that the system is modeled after Diablo 3, which means all characters are moved to the Eternal Realm at the beginning of each season. New characters have to be created for players to experience the new seasonal features and content.

Diablo IV’s Seasons are modeled after those of Diablo III. When a new season begins, all the characters from the prior season are moved to the Eternal Realm, where you can keep playing, leveling up, and collecting loot. To play in the new season, you’ll create a fresh character and experience the new seasonal features and content while leveling up alongside other players. This, along with capping paragon points in Diablo IV, ensures that your effort and skill—measured by both dexterity and theorycrafting —determine how powerful your character becomes. It also allows players who missed the last season to participate. This season design requires that all sources of character power come from playing the game, so you will not be able to pay for power in Diablo IV.

The new report also reveals that the Diabo 4 Seasonal system will be reset consistently. This will live up to the expectations that come with a live-service game and will allow players to start with a fresh start every season, keeping the experience fresh.

With each season new gameplay features will be introduced alongside new questlines with new challenges, mysteries, and numerous opportunities to level up. Each new questline will reveal more of the game’s world and each character’s place in it.

The Season Pass will include both paid and free tiers, from which players will be rewarded for their effort and time. The shop will include items that will not affect gameplay and the Season Pass will also award premium currency which will allow players to buy in-shop items.

So far, the Diablo 4 microtransactions system seems to be less detrimental to the overall experience.

The game’s Season Pass will award premium currency in both paid and free tiers. Players will then be able to use the premium currency to buy items from the game’s shop which will only include items that will not influence the gameplay experience.

Both the store and the premium tier of the Season Pass are also promised not to give players any in-game leverage or advantage over other players, which is what we’re hoping for, and glad to see it’s confirmed.

For more on the in-game shop, live-service, check out the latest blog post from Blizzard!

Marvel’s Avengers Next Hero to Be the Winter Soldier, Upcoming Update 2.6 Due in September

Those looking for the next character to join the roster in Marvel’s Avengers, Crystal Dynamics has announced the Marvel’s Avengers next hero, and it’s none other than James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, or otherwise known as the Winter Soldier!

Crystal Dynamics revealed Barnes’ upcoming inclusion in the game as part of the content roll out the studio has mapped out today. Before Barnes drops though, the next Marvel’s Avengers update is hitting this September, and it will be for update 2.6!

The Marvel’s Avenger’s upcoming update 2.6 will introduce the “No Rest for the Wicked” Warzone, which is a new villain-focused adventure for all players.

The Scientist Supreme is running out of resources (and clones) and takes further risks to secure AIM’s power. Monica has recovered M.O.D.O.K. from the San Francisco Bay with plans to revive him for use as a weapon against the Avengers. Our heroes must put an end to her plans before the mutation-maddened genius returns.

Alongside the new Warzone, players can expect updates on the full roster of heroes available in the game starting with patch 2.6 and beyond!

Once the 2.6 update is released, the next playable content will be AIM’s Cloning Lab. This Omega-Level Threat will feature endgame content, and will arrive with new gear and an increased power level cap! This is when the Winter Soldier will be deployed as well, Crystal Dynamics is tying the No Rest for the Wicked event and Cloning Lab into Barnes’ introduction in the game.

More details regarding the Cloning Lab and the Winter Soldier will be shared after the release of patch 2.6.

In case you didn’t know, we reported on Bucky Barnes’ entrance into the game via a datamined leak. If this is true, chances are, She-Hulk is also in the pipeline when it comes to Marvel’s Avengers heroes that players can expect.I mean, it’s pretty much confirmed after the latest accidental slip.

Don’t forget to check out the patch released today for version 2.5.2!

Gotham Knights Skill Tree Explained

WB Games Montreal has just revealed new Gotham Knights skill tree details in a new IGN First video. According to the developers, the new skill tree is an essential way through which players will be able to build their own new Dark Knight instead of simply succeeding Batman after his death.

The new Gotham Knights skill tree will allow players to expand their characters in a straightforward way. XP points will be gained by simply playing the game, after a while the XP points will allow players to level up, and when they level up they are rewarded new ability points. Players will then be able to use their ability points to expand on their characters’ skills.

Batgirl is able to specialize in 101 melee combat as well as hacking abilities and survivability. Nightwing is mainly focused on acrobatics and can also add buffs to co-op play. Robin can specialize in stealth or tech skills. Red Hood can either specialize in Marksmanship to deal damage from a distance, or in Brawler abilities which can potentially lead to him having the best grab and throw mechanics later on.

The Knighthood skill tree will be available for all four characters. It will only begin to unlock after a specific point in the game’s story and will allow the character to truly become their own Dark Knight. The Knighthood will also eventually allow Batgirl to glide, much like Batman.

Momentum Abilities is another menu of unlockable skills that will enable special attacks that can be assigned specific button combos for each character. Those abilities can be further powered up by unlocking other specific abilities in the aforementioned skill trees.

Gotham Knights is coming out on October 25 and is now available for pre-order via the game’s official website.

Borderlands 3 Update 1.920 Released This August 18 (Update)

Gearbox Software has rolled out Borderlands 3 update 1.920 on all platforms, and this is a small download. Given this is an unannounced title update, don’t expect anything major from it. Read on for the Borderlands 3 update patch notes.

Borderlands 3 Update 1.920 Patch Notes:

Size: 30MB (PC)

Update: According to Sheriff Pirek, who is one of the main admins in the Borderlands Discord channel, this patch was for Steam Deck peformance.

Screenshot-2022-08-18-222524

Unfortunately, Gearbox has not revealed anything regarding today’s title update. However, given the size, and the recent patches released for the other Borderlands titles, we wouldn’t be surprised if this patch was to implement ads into the game.

Someone on Reddit said that this patch affected the Black Market Shop, though we can’t verify that.

We’re keeping an eye out for the community and Gearbox, and if we hear anything regarding the patch, we’ll update the post. If you spot any gameplay or technical changes, leave a comment below and let us know what you find.

Hopefully, this patch wont bring in any game-breaking issues like the latest patches released for the older Borderlands games when they were patched last month.

Quake Update 1.07 Shoots Out for Patch 4 This August 18

Nightdive Studios has fired out Quake update 1.07 (PS5 version 1.008), and this is for what the devs call Update 4! This brings new maps from the original mod, new enhancements, Threewave Capture the Flag and more! Read on for the Quake August 18 patch notes.

Quake Update 1.07 Patch Notes | Quake Update 1.008 Patch Notes | Quake Update 4 Patch Notes | Quake August 18 Patch Notes:

THREEWAVE CAPTURE THE FLAG (CTF)

The rules for Capture the Flag are similar to the backyard game: protect your flag, steal the enemy’s, and return it to your own flag to score a point. Threewave CTF comes with some extras to this basic formula by adding power-up runes for teams to fight over, and the famous grappling hook!

A BRIEF HISTORY

For all those scholarly Rangers out there, here’s a brief history…
Threewave CTF was first released in October of 1996 by Zoid Kirsch. The mod back then was simple, and remixed existing game content to create something new. Matches took place on the single player levels modified to create bases. Keys were used in place of flags, and the grappling hook was an axe that fired a Vore ball. While a little bit of imagination was required, this didn’t hurt the mod’s reception at all. It caught on fire immediately and built a large fanbase of players looking for a deeper alternative to deathmatch.
Over the course of many updates, and eventually a QuakeWorld version, Threewave CTF would go on make Capture the Flag a household name in multiplayer game modes, and even spawn websites that exclusively covered Capture the Flag modes in games. Threewave CTF would be released officially as a part of Quake II, and the Quake III version of the mod would bring in new flag-based game modes and maps that would later make their way into Quake Live. Quake multiplayer and Threewave CTF have always been intertwined, and now the mod that started it all is now available for free in the enhanced Quake re-release

NEW ENHANCEMENTS

This latest version of Quake has been enhanced, with an improved flag status display showing if your flag is safely in base, team scoring, and a modern interface. The maps included have been updated with improved lighting and fog effects. All of this is included free in Update 4, and requires no additional download

RUNES

Four power-up runes spawn randomly throughout the map at the start of the match. Teams will vie for control over them, as they bestow their holders great benefits, and will stay with them until death. They fly out of the player on death, so keep an eye out, and grab them as quickly as possible to posses their power. If nobody picks them up eventually, they’ll respawn elsewhere. Holding these runes are key to giving your team the edge to win!

Rune of Earth Magic | Resistance

 – Take half damage from all weapons

Rune of Black Magic | Strength

 – All weapons deal double damage

Rune of Hell Magic | Haste

– Most weapons fire twice as fast, and nail projectile speed doubles

Rune of Elder Magic | Regeneration

 – Regenerate some lost health and armor every second, up to 150

GRAPPLING HOOK

The grappling hook, accessed via the weapon wheel or by pressing the key bound to the Axe, is more utility than weapon than most options in your armory. Holding down the fire button will shoot the hook, where it will fly straight forward until it hits a wall. Once attached, the hook will pull you in at a very high speed. The hook can be attached to players to do a constant stream of damage; however this will leave you vulnerable to the player you are attached to.
Switching weapons while the hook is attached will allow you to hang off walls and fire, however you will be vulnerable as you will be unable to move, doing your best impression of a turret. Using this to ambush an attacker can be an effective tactic, however it should be used sparingly as ambushes only work if they are unexpected!
Advanced players can shoot the hook at the ground, and then immediately let go as soon as the hook starts to pull you. This lets you launch into a bunny hop at a very high speed, and makes you less predictable of a target as you weave your way around the map

MAPS

Our update includes nine of the maps from the original mod

CTF1: MCKINLEY BASE
Created by Zoid Kirsch

Two bases connected by bridges, and an underwater route. An instant classic, and the most iconic map of the mod

CTF2: MCKINLEY STATION
Created by Zoid Kirsch

The sequel to McKinley Base, with bigger bases, a bigger flag room, and more routes. A classic, refined

CTF3: SPILL THE BLOOD
Created by Dale Bertheola

Catwalks and bridges hanging over lava and acid, with a wind tunnel into the flag room that provides ample opportunities to overwhelm the defense for some skeet shooting practice

CTF4: GLOOM CASTLES
Created by Tim Willits

A CTF version of the classic E1M5: Gloom Keep. Two Gloom Keeps, face to face. The front door is the shortest route, but also the riskiest. Lose the defense by taking the long way around

CTF5: CAPTUREPHOBOPOLIS
Created by American McGee

The mouthful of a map returns, but now with flags! This time, the bases are stacked on top of each other: red team on top, and blue team below

CTF6: VERTIGO
Created by Dale Bertheola

Each flag is flanked by a hulking Quake Q, looking over three paths out of the flag room and one-way wind tunnels

CTF7: THE STRONGBOX
Created by Brent McLeod

With a warehouse at its center, elevators and trains between bases provide ample grapple opportunities into tight flag rooms

CTF8: CHTHON’S CAPTURE HOUSE
Created by Tim Willits

Chthon’s hellish domain has been converted into a base in our smallest map of the set, providing intense combat with nowhere to hide
CTF9: DA ANCIENT WAR GROUNDS
Created by Matt Hooper

Catapult yourself over the moats into two traditional medieval castles and grab the flag from the throne room

BUG FIXES
  • Fixed Fiend arm clipping into the floor at death
  • Fixed auto aim debug variables that could be used to cheat in multiplayer
  • Fixed loading lightmaps in huge levels, such as when users side-loaded “Tears of the False God” in Arcane Dimensions

Size: 1.1GB (PC)

Update: Reddit user Guinydyl has compiled some of the changes found in the new update! Note that these are not official, so don’t go blaming the devs if these aren’t the same changes you see in your version of the game.

  • the infinite yellow dots by characters, ships, missions etc. has been fixed
  • the dark side and jedi character list was reshuffled (making space for new characters?)
  • vader now breathes

Unfortunately, this is another case of the studio not releasing the official changelog. We’re hoping that this changes sometime soon, but in the meantime, here are the new stuff spotted by the community:
