Embracer Group to Acquire Tripwire Interactive, Limited Run Games, Tuxedo Labs, Singtrix

Embracer Group’s buying spree continues, as the company has announced that it has acquired four new studios today! Tripwire Interactive, Limited Run Games, Tuxedo Labs, and Singtrix!

Here are the details straight from the press releases sent out!

Embracer Group Tripwire Acquisition:

Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”), through its wholly owned subsidiary Saber Interactive[1], has entered into an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares of award-winning US developer and publisher Tripwire Interactive from its four current owners. Tripwire Interactive is well-known for the Killing Floor and Rising Storm series and their recent best-seller Maneater, as well as their publishing division Tripwire Presents.

Tripwire will be part of the Saber Interactive (Evil Dead: The Game) operative group. As for the manpower, Tripwire co-founder and CEO Alan Wilson will stay on to run Tripwire along with co-founder and Lead Combat Designer Bill Munk, Design Director David Hensley. Another co-founder, John Gibson, will be departing the company.

The acquisition will include the four franchises from Tripwire including Maneater, Killing Floor, Rising Storm, and Red Orchestra. The press release also states that Tripwire is also developing an “exciting AAA” title, which will also be included in the buyout.

No details regarding the amount has been shared outside of Embracer stating that the terms and conditions for the acquisition “are in line with previous Embracer transactions.”

Embracer Group Limited Run Games Acquisition:

Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”), through its wholly owned subsidiary Freemode[1] has entered into an agreement to acquire Limited Run Games, Inc. (“Limited Run”) from its founders Josh Fairhurst and Douglas Bogart. Limited Run is a global leading collector-focused publisher of physical video games with a strong brand, established direct-to-consumer channels, and owns the development technology Carbon Engine that ports retro games to modern platforms.

Part of the acquisition is Limited Run Games’ “Carbon Engine,” which is an internally developed tech that allows legacy content and retro games to be “effortlessly put out in highly accurate, emulation-based ports for modern platforms.”

Limited Run will operate as an independent subsidiary with Josh Fairhurst (CEO) and Douglas Bogart (COO) continuing to lead the company under the new formed operative group “Embracer Freemode.”

Same as Tripwire, no specific terms regarding the acquisition was shared due to “commercial reasons.” But the terms and conditions for the acquisition are in line with previous Embracer transactions.

Embracer Group Tuxedo Labs Acquisition:

Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”), through its wholly owned subsidiary Saber Interactive[1], has acquired 100 percent of the shares of Swedish developer Tuxedo Labs. Tuxedo Labs is best known for creating the hit voxel-based destruction PC game Teardown. Embracer adds Dennis Gustafsson, Tuxedo Labs’ founder and CTO, who is a highly technical visionary with a specialty in physics, and his team of 5.

Tuxedo Labs will be part of the Saber Interactive operative group, which further strengthens Saber’s presence in Sweden. Tuxedo Labs has six team members, with the studio’s first title “Teardown” released officially on Steam this April 2022 (after being in Early Access for two years) and has since sold over a million copies on the platform.

Same as with the other two, no specific terms regarding the transaction was disclosed due to commercial reasons.

Embrace Group Singtrix Acquisition:

Embracer Group AB (”Embracer”), through its wholly owned subsidiary Freemode[1], has entered into an agreement to acquire Singtrix LLC (“Singtrix”) from its founders.

Singtrix will be part of Embracer Freemode. Singtrix, based in Los Angeles, is a creator of vocal processing effects technology for karaoke, gaming and entertainment. The studio has a 25-year history of developing music games, and is the first to patent the core technology behind the Guitar Hero franchise.

Singtrix creator and CEO John Devecka alongside co-founders Al Roque and Eric Berkowitz, plans to bring the “next pop culture musical experience to the world.”

Embracer expects Singtrix to expand its vocal technology platform into a broad range of new music games, streaming and mobile franchise.

Same as with the other studio acquisitions, no specific terms were disclosed due to commercial reasons.

Whew! That’s a lot! Don’t forget, just this May, Embracer Group announced that the company was acquiring Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Square Enix Montreal alongside various IPs (including the Tomb Raider property). When Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said that their acquisition plans were not finished, he wasn’t kidding.

Embracer Group also owns THQ Nordic, which will be present with a full slate of games at this month’s gamescom event.

Marvel’s Avengers Jane Foster MCU Outfit Flies Out Tomorrow

In a recent tweet, Square Enix has officially revealed the new Marvel’s Avengers Jane Foster MCU Outfit from the Thor: Love and Thunder film. The new skin will be available in the game’s marketplace as soon as tomorrow.

The new Marvel’s Avengers Jane Foster MCU Outfit will replicate the Natalie Portman Mighty Thor outfit which was pivotal in the latest Thor: Love and Thunder MCU film. The film was directed by academy-award winner Taika Waititi, and has so far made over $700 Million at the global box office.

Here is a brief excerpt from our Marvel’s Avengers review, which gave the game an adequate 8/10 score:-

Marvel’s Avengers is a tale of two halves. While the campaign is a satisfying romp, the endgame and repetitive nature of activities (and enemies) means that the endgame loop is a bit dry for the time being. Still, given that we’re getting a new character soon, and with both Hawkeye and Spider-Man (the latter exclusively for PlayStation gamers) entering the roster soon, there’s a lot to look forward to in terms of content.

Marvel’s Avengers is now available for purchase on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is also available for download for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Planet of Lana Is Coming to Xbox Game Pass; Delayed to Spring 2023

Developer Wishfully has just announced their newest title Planet of Lana is officially delayed to Spring 2023. Alongside the disappointing news, the developer also revealed the game is coming to Game Pass, on day one.

Planet of Lana was first announced at E3 2021 and was targeting a 2022 launch window. However, the studio has deemed it necessary to delay the game in order to ensure a sustainable workload for the developers and asks the fans for more patience as they polish the game.

The game is also now coming to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, for both Xbox consoles and PCs. This came as a surprise announcement that somewhat softens the blow of the delay.

Xbox Game Pass then replied to the announcement, seemingly celebrating the news, saying “more like planet of… MY EMOTIONS.”

Here is a brief description of the game according to its Steam page

A planet that used to be a place of undisturbed balance between human, nature, and animal has now become something else entirely.

The disharmony that had been in the making for hundreds of years has finally arrived in the form of a faceless army. But this is not a story about war. This is a story about a vibrant, beautiful planet –and the journey to keep it that way.

Planet of Lana is coming to Xbox consoles and PC in Spring 2023.

MultiVersus Glitches, Combos Issues Explained by Player First, Promises Better Communications

Tony Huynh, the co-founder of Player First Games, took to Twitter to explain exactly why MultiVersus players have been facing a wide variety of glitches in-game after the Season 1 patch, and how the studio is working to fix those issues

The weird MultiVersus glitches varied from Wonder Woman hurting herself, to players experiencing wildly long combo loops, and numerous issues with cooldown returns. Huynh went on to explain that these MultiVersus glitches were mainly caused due to work-in-progress work by the developers making its way into the public build of the game by accident.

He also explains that the studio has been working on an anti-infinite system. This would prevent long infinite combos in-game but still allows players to feel rewarded for landing long combo strings. However, this system is still in development and not yet ready for deployment.

Here is everything explained directly from Huynh via his Twitter account (for an easier read  we’ve compiled his chained tweets into text):

We wanted to explain some of what happened yesterday. Some of our work-in-progress work slipped into the build causing a lot of issues. Some of our global hurt/hit box changes got pulled in accidentally as well as in-progress ammo cooldown system. This caused the Wonder Woman hurting herself issue and numerous issues with cooldown returns.

Also, as some of you may have noticed, certain very long combo loops aren’t operating the same as they used to.
We’ve been working on an anti-infinite system, which was designed to prevent exceedingly long infinite combos across the board. This system is not ready, and needs more tuning. A server side fix is coming to disable it as part of patch 2. In a future patch, once this system is in better shape, we plan to revisit and seek input from our players.

The goal is to only affect exceedingly long infinites and to mitigate possible future game breaking bugs. Normal combo routes and team combos should be unaffected.
We want players to feel rewarded for landing long combo strings (Both with damage and the ability to convert into a knockout!), but we want every player to feel as though they have agency while playing, and to remove true 0 – death situations.

We’ve had a lot of learnings over the last few days. We failed to communicate this system. Moving forward we will continue to evaluate, talk to our players, and adjust the system as needed.
As always, we value your feedback.

Once the next slate of changes are announced for the brawler, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

MultiVersus was released on July 19, 2022, and it is now available for free download on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam.

Meet a motley cast full of misfits, assassin bots, and talking guns in this race to the top! It’s time to fight back against exploitation and corporate greed. It’s time to make Mayhem your business.

This lines up with what Gearbox announced earlier this year that the sequel is coming sometime in 2022. Not much else about the game has been revealed, but the pre-order bonuses are present in the listing:

  • The decisions you make determine how your story ends in unexpected ways. Whether it’s Anu’s vision of a universe that markets more than weapons, Octavio’s dreams of fame and fortune, or Fran’s frosty plot for revenge—their success or failure depends on you.

New Tales from the Borderlands is listed for $49.99 and will be launching for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Metal Gear Solid VR Mod by Fan Shows Incredible Potential

A new fan-made mod created by Holydh allows players to try out the first Metal Gear Solid game in VR. The new Metal Gear Solid VR mod is still in early development, but a new fan clip shows just how good MGS would be in Virtual Reality.

The mod has so far recreated only the first three parts of Metal Gear Solid, entirely in 1:1 scale. It includes some of the game’s weapons, maps, NPCs, player models, and other various features.

The list of maps so far includes the game’s Museum, Docks, Heliport, and the Tank Hanger. There are three weapons included, the Gray Fox’s Katana, Socom, and the Socom with a suppressor. Player models include Snake and Gray Fox with glowing eyes.

Metal Gear Solid 1 was released 24 years ago on September 3, 1998. The game kicked off the legendary MGS franchise that was created and developed by Hideo Kojima until the final MGS V game that was released in 2015.

While there’s no new Metal Gear game announced, fans have been busy modding different entries in the franchise. Check this one out where a third-person camera mod similar to MGS3: Subsistence is being developed for MGS2!

The Metal Gear Solid VR mod is now available for download on ThunderSore.

Avalanche Studios Co-Founder Reveals Canceled Iron Man Game Was in Development for Two Years

Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg has just revealed that an Iron Man game was in development at the studio, but was then canceled due to shortened development time and an increased budget.

Surprisingly, the canceled Iron Man game was in development for two years by the time it was scrapped. Sundberg revealed that it was meant to release alongside Iron Man 3 MCU film, but Avalanche was asked to shorten the development time, which was not at all feasible at the time.

“It would’ve broken the studio completely if we had agreed to that,” said Sundberg. “We would have had to hire 70-80 people to the team that I would have had responsibility to find a new project for.”

Sundberg didn’t reveal anything more about the canceled Iron Man game. He only added that the game was meant to have a melee combat system similar to that of the Batman Arkham Series, and that the Iron Man suit would have been able to fly anywhere using Iron Man’s repulsor blasts.

While it is unfortunate that we didn’t get to experience the Iron Man game, Marvel fans have since gotten plenty of new games. This includes PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Avengers. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is also coming out soon in 2023.

Gotham Knights Has Officially Gone Gold

WB Games Montréal has announced that their upcoming action role-playing game, Gotham Knights has officially gone gold. The announcement came via a tweet from the developers where they share a picture of the team celebrating the news:

“The whole Gotham Knights team is proud to announce that we’re officially GOLD!

See you in October!”

What does it mean by a game going gold? (via Micky)

Going gold in video games is industry-speak for a completed game. To be specific, a video game is gold when it’s ready for publication without any unfinished areas. This event means the game is good enough to start printing copies.

During generations where physical versions were prevalent, publishers will create a master copy. The master copy will be the basis for all the subsequent mass production copies. When a game is gold, development is finished and it’s ready to sell.

Gotham Knights is shooting its way to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on October 25, 2022. Make sure to stick with MP1st for all the latest updates.

Battlefield 2042 Season 2 Map Details Unearthed, DICE Looking Into Sundance Grenades Bug

While DICE hasn’t said anything concrete about Battlefield 2042’s Season 2 just yet, we already know that it will feature just one new map. Today, we have more details regarding the Battlefield 2042 Season 2 map, alongside some of the confirmed fixes coming to Specialist Sundance.

Over on Twitter, reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal has posted details on the Battlefield 2042 Season 2 map codenamed “Drained.”

Note that same with any other datamined info, none of this has been confirmed or officially announced by DICE or EA. Having said that, temporyal has been very spot-on when it comes to leaks and such.

In other Battlefield 2042 news, for those having issues with Sundance’s anti-armor grenade, DICE has confirmed that they are looking into it! This was confirmed by Battlefield Community Manager Straatford87 in a thread on the EA Answers forums where this specific bug was being talked about.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that we’ll see a fix for this Sundance grenade glitch in the Season 2 patch. One adjustment we’re sure to see is another nerf coming to stealth choppers! DICE has confirmed that the aircraft’s weapons and armor are being nerfed.

Are there any other BF2042 bugs that you’ve noticed that’s still plaguing the game? If so, send us a tip about to give it more exposure.
